NICOLE: “I’m so sorry it didn’t work out the way you wanted.”

WAVERLY: “She called me a demon. A demon, over and over and over. Is that why she left?”

NICOLE: “Your mother had a psychological disorder, okay? I went back in the archives - way back, almost 20 years - and I pulled the report from her arrest.”

WAVERLY: “What? Arson?”

NICOLE: “Yeah. For burning down the homestead barn.”

WAVERLY: “Who gets 20 years for burning down their own barn? And why is there only one sheet of paper?”

NICOLE: “It’s been pulled.”

WAVERLY: “What? By whom?”

SHERIFF NEDLEY: “By me. I thought it best if no one knew. But you’re a grownup now and you use proper grammar, so I guess you have a right to know. Michelle didn’t go to prison because she burned down the barn. She went because her youngest daughter was in it.”

When Nedley tells Nicole that she's like a daughter to him!

The tone of his voice —a man who's had to keep so much concealed and be stoic, steadfast and pragmatic in the face of so many massacres and so much tragedy gets to say the vulnerable thing he's been thinking. It's like you can practically hear him having to force the words out through all the barriers he's put up and it just wrecks me every single time.

WYNONNA EARP: Cheerfully derivative supernatural Western based on a Beau Smith comic book, originally aired from 2016 to 2018 with a fourth season in 2021, about the bad girl descendant of Wyatt Earp (Melanie Scrofano), who's inherited the family curse of battling white trash demons in the small town of Purgatory with a magical revolver called Peacemaker, aided by the cynical but handsome Marshal Xavier Dolls (Schamier Anderson), her adorable younger sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), the mysteriously immortal Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon), and cute local sheriff's deputy Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell), who eventually becomes Waverly's girlfriend.

Created by Emily Andras, this by-the-numbers nerd show is a great improvement on the original 1996–1997 incarnation of the comic (above left), but it's a sloppy goulash of ideas obviously lifted from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, SUPERNATURAL, CHARMED, and TRUEBLOOD, executed with the expected allotment of self-consciously quippy dialogue, cheesy special effects, convoluted internal mythology (little of which makes any sense), adolescent love triangles, and cute but rather one-note characters who act like high school kids regardless of their actual ages.

It remains watchable mostly on the strength of its attractive leads and sensible reluctance to take itself too seriously, although if you're not a connoisseur, I'm not convinced it would pass a blind taste test comparison with SUPERGIRL, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, or other such nerd media. Also, like far too many of its nerd show ilk, its treatment of its Black characters is consistently appalling. (The Shamier Anderson character, positioned in the first season as a co-lead and romantic interest, is marginalized in a deplorable way in the second season before being abruptly written out midway through the third.) CONTAINS LESBIANS? Indeed — many were watching mostly for the Waverly-Nicole romance. VERDICT: Dopey fun if you like this sort of thing.

"I can't keep my mind, or my hands, off of you." Nicole mutters as she wrapped her arms around Waverly's waist.

It has been almost 24 hours since Nicole Haught has seen her wife, 24 hours too long. Due to being short-staffed at the moment, Nicole had to cover multiple shifts to ensure that everyone was running smoothly.

"Mmm, I miss you too babe" Waverly replied as she snuggled into Nicole's shoulder.

To be honest, Waverly hated when Nicole had to work long hours or take multiple shifts. Often leaving her alone in the house, worrying about if Nicole was gonna be ok or not. Long hours staying awake because the bed was too cold or fears that Nicole will never come back home.

It took Waverly a long time to finally accept that this was Nicole's job and that she knew that being married to the sheriff would be like this. She never realized how hard it would be, spending hours and hours worried about her wife.

"I hate being away from you for so long. I wished that there was another way" Nicole said as she pulled Waverly in closer.

"Me too, I get so worried about you when you're not here" Waverly replied, pulling back and leading Nicole to the bed before sitting done.

"I need more staff but it's just so hard getting new recruits out here." Nicole whispers as she looks down.

It has always been a struggle for the Sheriff's Office to get qualified new graduates into town. Many wanting to stay closer to family or in the city, not wanting to deal with the small town at all. A toll that Nicole and the team had to deal with for the longest time, causing stress for the already small team.

"I know baby, but it's not your fault. This has always been an issue here, no other sheriff was able to fix the issue before" Waverly said, hoping to reassure the redhead.

"It's just tough, you know. We're trying our best but we are still struggling with recruiting folks." Nicole whispers.

"Everything is gonna be fine, now let's some sleep. You deserve it" Waverly replied, knowing how tired Nicole was.

Nicole smiled and nodded, before getting into bed with Waverly. While the days were tough Nicole Haught was glad she had her wife and her family to be there for her.
