very fine morning F69° at 10 a.m. – breakfast in the little room with my father at 10 – Moore the surveyor of the Northowram came – my father and I walked with him to see what I wish to have done – then leaving my father to go home went to Lower brea – saw George Robinson about getting 2 workmen to begin the road for Wellroyde, and about the footpath thro’ Wellroyde wood, and then went and George shewed me all over the mill at Mitham – sauntered home along the walk and came in soon after 2 – went into the library – reading a translation of Theocritus and had 2 glasses hot orangeade – then off to Halifax at 3 ½ down the old bank to Mr Parker’s - spoke about Walterclough mill - he was to send for young William Keighley to speak about it and write to Miss Walker for compensation for the water taken -then called and inquired after my steward Mr James Briggs - 10 minutes there with his poor wife who said in tears - had given up all hope of him – then called at Wellhead – nobody at home – met Mr. Waterhouse and walked a little way with him – Stocks has been haranguing his party for 2 hours today in the assemble room – a radical firebrand sort of speech against present institutions – the honourable James Wortley, Mr. Wood, Mr. Rawdon Briggs and Stocks candidates for our new borough of Halifax – called (at 5) at the Saltmarshes – at dinner so walked off – up the o.b. – called at Pickersgills (late Benjamin Bottomleys’) to give orders to the workmen about getting on with the repairs – home at 6 20 – dinner at 6 ½ - my aunt came to me – this morning had very kind letter 3pp. and ends from Miss H- Richmond Park – ‘you really must not be so long in writing to me’....... Lady S- uneasy about me – fears my being ill – going to Whitehall – Donald has chosen a carriage (chariot) dark brown – Lady S- better I suppose – Malvern seems fixed on for the marriage journey – this kind letter did me good tho’ I did not read it till after breakfast - just before going out at 3 ¾ wrote very kind note of inquiry to say I arrived on Monday and would walk over some day early in next week to Lightcliffe to ‘Mrs William Priestley Lightcliffe’ and sent it at 3 ¾ by Hemingway – after dinner wrote and sent at 8 by John the following to ‘Messrs. Rodgers and sons, cutlers, Sheffield’ ‘Shibden hall – Friday 29 June 1832. Sir – I received your letter of the 19th instant at Langton hall, but waited to answer it till my return home – I wish to have six French bistouries with tortoise shell folding handles at 3/6 each and 2 scalpels with ditto ditto at 2/. and 2 best lancets at [2]/6, and one Russia leather case containing 4 best razors at 21/. two ditto ditto containing 2 best razors at 11/. and a shut up pruning knife – will you be so good as let me know if you have made knife and fork and spoon and corkscrew all shutting up in one handle, and at what prices – I am, sir, etc. etc. A Lister Direct to Miss Lister Shibden hall near Halifax’ – wrote the above of today and had just done at 8 ½ - my aunt and I then went into the other room – skimmed over the courier which comes (arrives) here about 9 ½ p.m. – came upstairs at 10 10 at which hour F70 ½° - very fine day -

Ooh my goddess, do I have a type or do I have a type? Specifically teacher types. Those who have had (or currently still do) crushes on teachers/professors put your hand up (both my hands are up 😅).
Also Miss Stacey from Anne with a E on Netflix is giving me serious AL vibes and is really good with her hands, words and a gun 😍 so yeah... I am racing through the series very quickly 🤣
Also see lesbian grief waistcoat! 👀👀

Ann Walker: Sometimes when I've tried to avoid doing something or going somewhere but then had to do it anyway, I've often come away feeling like it's been one of the best days I've ever had. So maybe, if you went, the thing that seems complicated might... sort itself out.
Can we take a second to talk about that scene? The way Anne looks at her and almost kisses her as if it was the complete normal thing to do. Yeah, that same Anne who locks the door, shuts the blind and checks behind her back before kissing. I think at  that moment she saw someting in Ann, something much more significant in her. I think that’s where it shifted from the idea of being with her for her money to wanting a true companionship.

My wife and I just discovered GJ in January. We watched the entire season spellbound. Then the obsession began...FB pages, Google rabbit hole, hell, I even joined Tumblr! We are now listening to the podcast together, then rewatching the episode. This entire experience is helping us heal our pandemic traumatized souls. Thank you for validating our obsession with your wonderful banter and...well, everything. I am renewed.

[KISS] Tuesday 29.. April 1834
8 40
1 10
one kiss last night good to her tho’ not much to me dullish morning but fair F50° at 7 –breakfast at 10 – Mrs Bewley had sent off the first thing for Matthew Avison to come and speak to me – she highly recommended him for honesty and attention etc and Miss W- had seen him and thought he looked quick  and as if he might do – staid in the house waiting for him - in the mean while came a Robert Spofford aged 28, had lived 11 ½ years with a Mrs Coates near Stokesley – having heard from James Clayton at the Black Swan I wanted a servant – asked £20 – looked old and little loutish than James -  Miss W- and I out at 1 ¼ - called and sat a little while with Mrs Henry Belcombe - mentioned our intention of taking Mr Brown the drawing master and going to Rokeby during Whitsuntide week – ordered about boots cutting down and calashing out the toes - ordered at Cattle and Barber’s tea-kettle  cresting with Dr B-‘s crest and looked at Berry’s Encyclopaedia Heraldica, 2 volumes 4th cost 8 guineas, and Edmund Stone’s Heraldry and a small manuscript 4to book  of crests – Walker’s arms mentioned in the two first works the same as those now borne by the W-s of Crownest – Listers of Shibden not mentioned - Miss W- bought set of tea china 21/. for wedding present to Mr Bewley’s niece - a few minutes at Myers about the carriage (my own)  - it will be done (painted etc) by Thursday 1st of June - Home at 2 ½ - Matthew Avison waiting – explained about being in treaty for a servant whom I expected to have by and by, but would take Matthew if would go back with me  till this other servant could come – agreed - I myself gave Matthew warning, and he left me for no great fault,
SH:7/ML/E/17/0024
I to pay his expense back to York but if he gave warning or left me for drunkenness, dishonesty,  (impertinence not named tho’ intended)  or another great fault, then I had nothing to do with his expense back – his livery to be considered mine unless such things as I myself especially at any time might give him  to do as he liked with – to give him after the rate £20 a year - Dinner at 3 – enjoyed the cold boiled beef – Miss W- evidently nervous at my going tho’ she said little about it she certainly cares for me more and more seemed much pleased at finding I had ordered a seal to be ready for her birthday and when I said you see I thought of you she answered ‘yes when do you not think of me’  I think we shall get on very well together Off from Heworth Grange York at 4 35, took up Matthew Avison at 5 10 at his father’s public house 3 or 4 miles (3 ½ miles) from York - nobody in the shop at Kendalls’ Leeds but left Miss W-‘s table screen with Kendalls’ painter who lives in the court yard saying I would write about it - Off from Kendalls’ (detained there 5 minutes) at 8 5 – unluckily I had determined to return by the new road, by Gomersall -  Dark night – lighted the lamps about 9  - did not get to Shibden till 10 55! having come foots’ pace over the newly bouldered road great part of the way – rained all the way - everybody gone to bed – some minutes before we could get in – sent Eugenie off to bed (rather wet about her arms) immediately - siding – I took nothing to eat or drink – dull but fair till 2pm from then for the rest of the day and night thoroughly rainy F50° at 12 ½ tonight the least imaginable sign of my cousin on washing this morning determined to return home  found it come gently just before dinner no time to put linen on so put a pocket handkerchief under me on leaving Leeds so I led it a little but no harm done nothing even on my drawers found a letter or a note dated Halifax 28th April  from a W. Hewson offering himself as a manservant – now living with Mrs Asqworth in Gibbet line – could be at liberty in a week
