What I like about Horikoshi is that he makes plot twists that seem obvious, but then he turns them on their head.
Remember the theory about Dabi, everyone knew he was Touya, but no one knew what kind of problems he really had with his father. While everyone thought that he was forcing Touya to train like Shoto, in reality it turned out that Endeavor, on the contrary, forbade it, and Touya did not listen to him.
Horikoshi is doing it again now. Everyone knew that AFO was responsible for Tenko's Decay and that he was keeping an eye on the Shimura family, but no one assumed that he was a close friend of this family.
AFO pretended to work for a construction company and then befriended Kotaro to keep an eye on how Kotaro's children were doing.

It's a shame that the flashback with Kotaro ends so abruptly, because I think we would have found out that it was either the AFO who offered to give Tenko a quirk (or pretended to know someone who could do it), or Kotaro himself who asked him about it.

Bring It All Back (Part 1/4)
~A Tone Poem on Returning to the Status Quo~
Warning: IMAGE-HEAVY. A Webtoons-style vertical scroll comic using rearranged and recontextualized panels from My Hero Academia.
Deku keeps saying he'll bring everything back to normal. But what does "normal" actually mean...?

Okay, this season gave me whiplash when it came to the families.
Drama with the Todoroki Family, Hawks' background with his parents, the Shimura Family, the Shigaraki Brothers + adoptive son/nephew...
And then we get some wholesomeness with Inko and her son in episode 19.
Like nothing but turmoil with the rest of the families and then here's the Midoriya Family!

Any of y’all curious about the quirks of Shigaraki’s family members?
Judging by the way his father talked about the idea of his son not having a quirk even at five years old (plus the fact that he was talking only about Tenko and not Hana), it makes me doubt the idea of anyone in that household other than Tenko being ‘quirkless’. That being said, the only thing I can recall the manga saying about their quirks were the fact that none of them were even remotely similar to Tenko’s since his was a manifestation. They could have been anything.
Like I know it doesn’t really have anything to do with the plot or anything but it’s still interesting to think about. They were likely weak quirks and things that none of them seemed to use, unless they were incredibly subtle I guess. I don’t know, I personally would like to know one of them at least.

I've seen several people complain that chapter 419 doesn't make sense. One of the main arguments is the fact that All for One persuaded Kotaro to have a second child, instead of just using Hana. AFO himself said that Hana was simply too old to be part of his plans, which many found strange. However, perhaps the whole point is that by the time AFO began to closely monitor the Shimura family, Hana had already developed a quirk, so AFO could no longer make it appear that Kotaro's daughter was born quirkless.

Hmmmmm, it looks like Kotaro Shimura was not a traditional man when it comes to his house???
Two cars. One is probably from Nao's parents. It looks like they were big on nature, for the amount of plants they have. Also, it looks like anyone on the street could have noticed little Tenko crying in the yard. He used to sit against the wall that was to the street, for what I gathered in this pic:

I wonder where all the neighbors were and how Tenko was allowed to roam the streets after the scandal that must have been the Shimuras' death.
It happened at night, right? Did no one wake up? It was not some remote area. The house crumbled and there were people screaming. How is that no one checked on him?
I can't wait to revisit that night now that Deku and Tomura are able to see each other's memories. It's time for us to get some answers from that night.
I wonder if that was really just some random man or if something else happened previous to that...

Can you imagine the things Horikoshi would make if he really went to make a full horror manga? I personally think that some of the things he had put in MHA is already bordering on Junjo Ito territory, just imagine if that was the whole center of the story.
Oh god, it would be so intense.
I'm not a fan of horror, but I have to admit I get an incredible amount of satisfaction out of some of his most devastating panels. Feral Deku, Shigaraki's face split to reveal AFO on the inside, etc..... I respect Junji Ito a lot (though only by proxy cause even watching reviews of Uzumaki had me scared of spirals) and yea, they both draw with this uncomfortable level of detail in just the right moments. It's breathtaking to look at. I've spent so much time just drinking those panels in. I heard someone compare the Shimura family panel this chapter to The Thing too.
I am soooo excited to see some of this stuff animated in season 6. I'll be heartbroken if bones censors it too much. But either way some of the most messed up panels in this manga are my favorite <3

And aside from the fact that this is a very yikes thing to say about someone with a skin condition, it's also kind of bizarre how some people seriously seem to think that applying some lotion is all it takes to help with Tomura's dry skin and make him look "pretty" or something.
If lotion was all that was needed, then why did none of the ointments his mother bought for Tenko actually help him?
That's because the itch and the dry skin are most likely symptoms of a psychosomatic disorder caused by the stress of having to endure his father's abuse and none of the other adults in the Shimura household intervening to protect the children from Kotaro.
Furthermore, what at first glance looks like wrinkles on Tomura's forehead and around his eyes are probably scars by now – thus nothing that can just be magically cured by some lotion.

Shigaraki's backstory is so dear to me but as with many things I dislike fandom's perception for it
For most part, people really focus on what goddamn awful abuser Kotarou is. But really, Tomura talks about how his house rejected him. Not just father
Kotarou abused him. He was too strict in enforcing the rules. He couldn't realize what he is doing is wrong. But with Kotarou punishing Tenko for doing something every child would do - roleplaying as heroes - his suffering wouldn't stop. His mom told him that his father just knows how hard it is for heroes (a fucking lie). His grandmother would tell him not to cry when he had a legitimate reason to do so. His grandfather tried to make him just move on from whatever happened and eat some buns or whatever
Tenko was abused and then the entire family tried to make him look away from that, repress his feelings and be understanding
He is a child and he is being mistreated and no one treats him like they would treat a mistreated child. They all look at his pain and they just can't utter to say "what father did to you is wrong and it's ok that you are upset". They looked at what Tenko was feeling and did their best to reject it and pretend everything was fine. They were really gentle about it and caring but nevertheless, they kept on going along with Kotarou
"Why did they defend my father? Why did they only ever say "don't cry" to me?"
"It was a small, but steady accumulation"
