(@ask-the-shiny-pokemons) Tim @ Paige: "Oh, you are interested in books. Which genre do you prefer? I would like to give one of my research books. Hope you'll like it."
Tumblr media
"If you leave us your information, we can get back to you if it gets sold!"
You watch the book float towards the bookcases and disappear from view. Paige's hand continues to glow, and his eyes shift upwards and around as if he's trying to remember something. He finally nods his head slightly as if he found the thought, and soon after his power fades away.
"Sorry about that, I was just putting it away. Anyways, I guess you can say I'm interest in books. Although it's not one of my main hobbies, it's a normal hobby to have, right? I do prefer romance novels, but I also really enjoy high fantasy stories and survival thrillers! Imagine if we had to live in the wild and there were strange creatures chasing after us, that's scary! Aahoohoo!"

Pokémon Gender and Breeding
Pokémon breed very differently in captivity compared to the wild. There are very few documented cases of Pokémon breeding ‘naturally’ in captivity. Instead, two Pokémon combine their life energy to create an egg. This is a very private affair. When breeding in this way, the egg is always the same species as the mother. There have been some cases of two males creating an egg, which is theorised to be how some all-male species reproduce.
Pokémon in the wild mate in much the same way as humans do. In most cases wild Pokémon mate only with their own species, but when they don’t, some of the clutch will usually be one species, while the rest will be another. All-female species tend to override this and will only produce eggs of their kind.
Different species can breed together so long as they are of the same egg group. Ditto are interesting as they can breed with almost any Pokemon, regardless of egg group or gender. Unfortunately, Ditto cannot produce a Ditto egg. It is currently unknown how they reproduce in any context.
Regional starter Pokémon always skew male. This is because breeders catch and raise a high number of female regional starters to keep up with demand. This has happened with a few other species also, namely Eevee. In many areas, this has led to numbers of wild starters and Eevees dwindling dangerously low. Efforts are being made to improve this. It is also much more likely for Pokémon restored from fossils to be male. Researchers are currently unsure if this is because these fossils are better preserved, if the restoration machines alter the sex, or some other reason.
Interestingly, some Pokémon change sex throughout their lives. Approximately 1/3 of female Azurill will evolve into Male Marill, but not the other way around. In rare cases, a female Espurr who has a preference for defence will become a male Meowstic, and a male Espurr with a preference for attack will become a female Meowstic. This is very uncommon and has only been documented a handful of times.
Gender Unknown Pokémon (sometimes referred to as Genderless Pokémon) reproduce in a variety of different ways. Most can combine their life energy with a Ditto to create an egg.
Despite being in the same evolutionary line, Staryu and Starmie reproduce very differently. Staryu reproduces asexually. Beneath their gem, they have a central disk which is pentametric. It drops an arm and 1/5 of this disk, which then grows the rest of its disk, arms, and orb. Only when it is fully grown can it battle. As it is effectively a replica of the original, a shiny Staryu will always produce shiny offspring. Starmie, on the other hand, produce sexually. Starmie do have a sex, though it is impossible to determine without killing it. They interlock with one or more partners and produce via external fertilization. Sometimes the young will attach themselves to their parents until they are properly developed. A shiny Starmie is no more likely to produce a shiny Staryu than a standard Starmie would.
Magneton breed by coming together in a group, much like Starmie. It is believed they combine their lifeforce (in the same way Pokémon can create eggs) into scrap metal and old appliances, and make Magnemite in their image. Magnemite cannot breed without evolving, as the process is too similar to joining up with others. The Klink line do the same with gears.
Voltorb and Electrode reproduce similarly to Magneton. When a group finds an abandoned pokéball (broken or whole), they put their lifeforce into it. This is believed to be why they no longer resemble old-style pokéballs, though theoretically it is possible. They do not appear to be interested in other types of pokéballs.
Groups of Solrock, and Lunatone come together in rocky fields during midday and midnight respectively. They perform an interesting ceremony, at the end of which the rocks become either Solrock or Lunatone.
Watching a Polteageist reproduce is quite interesting. Several Polteageist will gather around a teacup and simply pour into it. Documented cases have found anywhere from a 1 to 33  Polteageist to participate, though most commonly its between 3-7.
Dhelmise put their life force into seaweed and guide them to shipwrecks to merge with the debris.
Many artificial Pokémon simply create more of their kind. This has been documented with Golurk, Claydol, and Porygon.
It is believed that Cryogonal reproduce when melted into water vapour during the summer. Areas that never get warm enough for this tend to have very few Cryogonal, and often require human interference to maintain their populations.
As Tandemous and Maushold are considered a family group, they have been given ‘gender unknown’ status to encompass the whole group, though individually it is very easy to distinguish males and females. Maushold have never been seen reproducing. One day, their young just appear. When their young are big enough to fend for themselves, they will pair up with another and become a Tandemous. Within a day, the parents have more young.
Despite being ‘gender unknown’, Manaphy and Phione reproduce the same as any other Pokémon. It is believed they do have genders. Whether the egg hatches as a Manaphy or a Phione depends on the water temperature.
Research is being done to discover how other gender unknown Pokémon reproduce in the wild.

4town Boys & Their Ace Pokemon
Vs the pokemon everyone thinks their Ace is!
Happy Pokemon Day :]
————
Robaire: Cinccino
Tumblr media
- Robaire’s ace is of course a lovely and well kept Cinccino! He’s had her for a long while now & evolved her himself
- The two get along great and enjoy doing self care together!
- Robaire got her as a present from family in his teenage years as a birthday gift. He’s a big fan of Minccino & has probably done multiple fashion looks based off Minccino/Cinccino!
- However, until Robaire iconized his love for the pokemon, many expected a much different Ace from him 👀 and while answers varied, Robaire’s most common expectation was: Furfrou!
Tumblr media
- Maybe its because he’s a diva, maybe it’s because its a fashion pokemon & he’s a fashionable guy, maybe its cause every other city kid had one- but not Robaire! He never much had an interest in getting one either, he’s not the fondest of the common Furfrou rudeness
- He’s probably also modeled with a lot of Furfrou in the past for shoots, which definitely doesn’t help with the misunderstanding of his Ace Pokemon- but nowadays he tries to be an openly proud & notable Cinccino trainer ✨
————
Jesse: Claydol
Tumblr media
- Jesse’s ace of choice is his best friend: Claydol! He befriended this pokemon at a young age & grew with her :]!
- The two are eerily in sync and sometimes scare folks, but are undeniably a perfect duo
- Jesse found Claydol back when she was a Baltoy! He discovered her in a ditch while looking for “buried treasure” as a kid & ended up making a lifelong friend who loves & helps protect/watch his kids
- However, being an artist, Jesse faces every artist’s struggle of what ppl assume. Everyone thinks his ace is the ever iconic Smeargle 💀
Tumblr media
- And dont get it twisted! Jesse has a Smeargle! He got one when he was very little as a birthday gift, unfortunately, he & Jesse butt heads A LOT and can hardly agree on anything! They are as perfect out of sync as Jesse & Claydol are in sync!
- Regardless Jesse loves his Smeargle, he loves his Claydol, he’s just tired of everyone assuming who’s his “most important” pokemon
————
Tae Young: Tranquill or Pidove!
Tumblr media
- Tae Young’s ace is Tranquill & Pidove! And its no surprise, not after he’s iconized his love for the birds!
- He and all of his pigeony pals are well coordinated & loving! He has extremely high friendship/love with his pokenon
- Tae was absolutely awestruck with Pidove after moving away from Johto, he fell in love with the pokemon and would quickly grow to adopt and evolve his own! His love for the birds would grow so large that it’d become a part of his gimmick as a trainer!
- And while many newer fans know who Tae’s ace is, older fans of Tae before he joined 4*Town are always a bit confused to see he doesn’t have a Natu!
Tumblr media
- Growing up a Johto kid, Natu was one of the plentiful pokemon in his area! And it took his favorite spot for a very long time, similarly to Pidove now- Natu used to be Tae’s most iconic pokemon!
- And while he has a Xatu back home with his grandma that he loves dearly, its really honestly more of her Pokémon now! And he’s happy for the connection the two share <:3
Bonus: Tae still has a Natu on his team & its shiny, but its very self conscious of that so Tae helps it “dress up” as a normal Natu
————
Aaron T: Gliscor
Tumblr media
- Aaron T’s ace is the one and only Gliscor! And he’s just as bold as his trainer is, they’re not shy to doing stupid tricks together
- The two share a single braincell, its really impressive how they manage to pull anything off
- T of course found his friend as a Gligar when he was younger, undoubtedly finding the little bat while exploring somewhere he wasn’t supposed to. I dont imagine he properly caught Gligar for awhile either… rather he just.. kept grabbing it & dragging it back home??
- Either way they’re besties now, you couldn’t separate the two for anything! And while many fans think the duo is iconic, few folk’s ever guess T’s ace correctly! Rather, many suspect T to have: Pikachu!
Tumblr media
- T loves Pikachu (though he loves Raichu more), but he’s never had one or thought to have one. He was forbidden from having any electric types as a kid (for obvious reasons) & thats still engrained in his brain. But he does love the electric mouse :]!
————
Aaron Z: Swoobat
Tumblr media
- Aaron Z’s ever illusive Ace is Swoobat! Who is undeniably the most sweet of any of the pokemon listed <:]!
- Z & Swoobat share an awkward aura together, and while they seem to understand each other perfectly- others seem to have a hard time connecting
- Swoobat was a gift for Z from an older sibling, he received Swoobat as is and has been attached to him since he was a teen. Swoobat was the main of his older sister before she left for college :,]! She passed Swoobat on since Z actually wanted to be a trainer when he was an adult
- But while Swoobat & Z are fan favorites to Z’s portion of the fanbase- more uneducated fans often dont know Z has a pokemon! In the beginning of the group, Z’s ace was teased and was a mystery! The most popular speculation still haunts Z, many still assume is ace is: Meinshao
Tumblr media
- He has a meinfoo from managers, one who dances with him and is training to evolve, but he finds that Meinfoo gets along much better with T & Gliscor then himself. So he often lets the 3 play around & hopes to trade Meinfoo over one day

Personalised post ORAS teams featuring… Everyone! Wahoo!
Funni lore bits for those who are interested;
Tabitha:
Torkoal - His first Pokémon, caught as a child. Suspecting to have been very old even then, it’s nonetheless going strong. Aloof and uncaring, most people are surprised to hear it’s one of Tabithas Pokémon. It doesn’t battle.
Armaldo - Obtained in his Devon days when working on the Hoenn fossil revival project. One of the very first successes, Tabitha decided to take care of the then Anorith themselves. It often helps him keep order among the grunts.
Skarmory - Caught after beginning to work for team Magma, wanting a Pokémon that could fly. It often carries supplies and never tires. Much like Armaldo, it often helps keep order among the grunts.
Donphan - Caught during his work for team Magma. Found ruining crops, he defeated it and took it with him. The shiny patches show up as rust, and the health problems from that were found causing it to act out. Making sure it’s healthy, it’s now their strongest battler, even it still acts moody towards others.
Shelly:
Tentacruel - Her first Pokémon, caught as a Tentacool as a child. Due to it’s extending tentacles, it’s an invaluable team member for rescue missions. It helps often with training the grunts in battle.
Kingdra - Caught as a Horsea as a child. Despite being fairly standoffish towards others, it’s very close to her. She often has it explore new terrain for her.
Milotic - Caught in her Devon days in her free time. The Pokémons living space had been disturbed by new developments, leaving it wandering. She took it in afterwards.
Gyarados - Caught in her early Aqua days. Found rampaging after evolving, she defeated it and took it with her to prevent future issues. Due to Milotics ability to calm raging spirits with it’s beauty, they became battle partners.
Matt:
Marill - His first Pokémon, caught for him by his older sibling. It’s very playful and likes to battle, even though it never seemed to want to evolve.
Pelipper - Caught shortly after Marill as a Wingull. Nowadays, due to it’s ability to carry things safely in its beak, its often used when relocating smaller fish Pokémon to safer waters.
Crawdaunt - Caught as a Corphish just before joining team Aqua. Due to it’s tough pincers, it’s Matts main fighter on the team. Overall however, it’s a remarkably friendly Pokémon for it’s kind, mainly due to good training from Matt back from before it evolved.
Wailord - Caught during the team Aqua days. The grunts found it stranded on the beach, and couldn’t push it back to the ocean. Matt eventually figured the best way to relocate it would be to catch it and then release it in deeper waters. It chose to stay with him however, and is now a celebrity amongst the grunts who love to fetch a ride on it.
Courtney:
Whismur - Caught in her teens, and her first Pokémon. She thought it was cute and took it along. It doesn’t battle, though she uses it’s ear shattering abilities sometimes to not have to deal with people she doesn’t like.
Skitty - Originally the pet her parents had at home. She took it with her once she moved out for college. It doesn’t battle, but it’s quite good at stealing whatever she asks for.
Claydoll - Caught as a Baltoy during college. She wanted a Pokémon that could protect her during expeditions into cave systems. Due to it’s psychic abilities, it helps her out in the lab a lot.
Ninetales - Caught as a Vulpix during college. She saw it on a field trip, thought it was cute and caught it, despite not having much room left at home. After it evolved, it became a very capable battler.
Maxie n Archie already got their teams lore here!

Sudden thought; Overlord (the anime/manga/web novel) characters with Pokemon.

Demiurge: Houndoom, Toxicroak, Banette, Claydol, Skarmory and Gogoat. Houndoom is always by his side though his secret favorite is his Gogoat since it reminds him of Ulbert.

About Me: Favorite Pokemon
Pokemon is a series very near and dear to my heart. From my early experiences watching the anime and playing the card game to staying up all night in the hospital playing Pokemon Crystal to getting my first-ever game of my own (Sapphire) and picking my first starter (Torchic), I just have an endless stream of positive memories of this franchise.
Of course, most of the positive memories wouldn’t be half as good without all the Pokémon I befriended along the way. There’s over a thousand of these creatures now and while I don’t think any Pokémon is bad, I’ve obviously come to like some more than other. That’s what this list is for.
Unfortunately, due to the image limit on posts I had to cut this list down from 50 to 30 so that there wouldn’t be twenty boring blank spaces like I had to do with my video game list. A lack of pictures there is whatever, but when I can’t showcase the designs of the critters I’m talking about, there’s a big issue. This means there’s a lot of honorable mentions: Klefki, Jynx, Slither Wing, Lapras, Garbodor, Lunala, every single Eeveelution, Armaldo, Farfetch'd, Sirfetch'd, Ditto, Pheromosa, Buzzwole, Mew, Xurkitree, Lucario, Gimmighoul, Zoroark, Claydol, Walking Wake, Rotom, Porygon2, Chien-Pao, Iron Thorns, Sceptile, Gallade, Togekiss, Spiritomb, Grimmsnarl, Mimikyu, Scrafty, Sigilyph, Zacian, Florges, Eternal Flower Floette, Lilligant, Bisharp, Kingambit, Wishiwashi, Tatsugiri, Bronzong, Rayquaza, Dracovish, Hydreigon, Blacephalon, and Dracozolt. Yeah, there's a thousand of these, so narrowing down my favorites is no easy task.
30. Unown
Tumblr media
Unown is probably one of the most worthless Pokemon when it comes to battling seeing as they only know Hidden Power and have pitiful stats (partly because their attacking stats are still spread as if the physical/special split never happened), but I lfind their overall suckiness kind of endearing. I like the weird concept behind them being living hieroglyphs, and the mysteries surrounding them really make me wish they were utilized more in the stories of the games. I'm not asking for them to be as badass as they were in the Entei movie, but come on, throw these guys a bone!
29. Qwilfish
Tumblr media
One of the absurdly rare joke Pokemon of Gen II, Qwilfish wasn't one I thought of very often... that is until I got one over the GTS back in the DS days. She was a shiny, her name was Butt Bomb, and her OT was Bakura. Ever since I got her, I have always loved this stupid mine/blowfish hybrid, and I was absolutely elated to find out it got a badass evolution in Overqwil when Pokemon Legends Arceus came out.
28. Sneasler
Tumblr media
Speaking of Arceus, I have to say that Sneasler is my favorite Hisuian evolution. I've always loved Sneasel, especially since one in LeafGreen ended up becoming one of my first ever level 100 Pokemon in that game. I kind of didn't like that it lost so much Sneasel-ness upon evolving into Weavile, but Sneasler certainly fixes that problem. It's all right there in the name, where the original is Sneasel, this one is even Sneasler. More Sneasel, less problems.
27. Meowstic
Tumblr media
These weird little Psychic cats are just a lot of fun, and I honestly like them more than their more iconic pre-evolutions. Gen VI gets a lot of flak, especially considering how few Pokemon it introduced, but considering it brought this sexually dimorphic extrasensory feline into existence I'm fine with it. Quality over quantity.
26. Kecleon
Tumblr media
It has one of the most clunky gimmicks out there, but I'm still fond of this little chameleon. It's such a fun Pokemon to track down be it in Gen III, their remakes, or even Go, and it is one of the single most terrifying foes you can battle in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I even love its stupid shiny that only changes its stripe.
25. Dudunsparce
Tumblr media
After years of fans begging for Dunsparce to finally receive an evolution, one that would be some badass dragon that completely misses the point of Dunsparce's whole joke, Gen IX delivered with... a Dunsparce that has an extra segment in its body. It is genuinely one of the greatest trolls in existence, and the fact there's a special form that's even longer really goes to show that Dunsparce was always perfect and the only thing they could even imagine doing as improvement is giving us more Dunsparce.
24. Alcremie
Tumblr media
I love Pokémon with bafflingly cryptic evolution methods, and while Runerigus probably takes the cake in terms of Gen VIII Pokemon, Alcremie quits literally is the cake. The fact you have to decorate it’s pre-evolution, then spin around in a circle with the direction, number of spins, and even time of day affecting the ultimate outcome of what color Alcremie you’ll get. No matter what, the end result is the cutest food-themed Pokémon yet.
23. Shedinja
Tumblr media
Finding this Pokémon on my own as a kid was such a fun surprise. The Nincada I’d lovingly raised evolved, but I got not just one evolution but some weird shedded husk? Fucking awesome. Ghost types really have some of the most inventive designs in the whole series, and this one hit point wonder is a shining example of that.
22. Archeops
Tumblr media
If there wasn’t an image limit on posts, I could fill up a list with fossil Pokemon as I love almost all of them. But my favorite of them all is definitely this awkward, struggling proto-bird that hits like a truck until it gets too many boo-boos and just gives up. It’s kind of relatable.
21. Iron Valiant
Tumblr media
As much as I prefer the Paradox Pokemon in Scarlet to the ones in Violet due to their more wild designs, my favorite Paradox of all is one of the robots. It’s a very unique design among its cybernetic brethren, incorporating elements of both Gardevoir and Gallade into one awesome ‘mon. It’s quite literally the best of both worlds, and the colorless shiny version looks even better.
20. Salazzle
Tumblr media
For a series with such a massive furry fandom, it’s honestly pretty impressive they managed to have the restraint to avoid creating a deliberately sexy design for six generations. And when they finally caved in the seventh, they made that design a venomous, fire-breathing succubus salamander. I love this stupid sexy lizard, especially that stunning shiny.
19. Chandelure
Tumblr media
Some people hate the Pokémon based on inanimate objects, which I’ve always found stupid; a good chunk of Pokémon are based off of Yokai, and guess what a lot of Yokai are? My favorite of this brand of Pokémon is definitely the killer chandelier ons, another example of how Ghost types get all the coolest designs.
18. Meloetta
Tumblr media
Such a simple yet elegant design for this mythical ‘mon. I really wish its gimmick was a bit more useful in combat, but when you look as good as it does it’s forgivable.
17. Milotic
Tumblr media
The elegant, defensive counterpart to the rough, offensive Gyarados, Milotic was almost always a bitch and a half to acquire in the older games, but damn if they weren’t worth the effort of fishing up a Feebas!
16. Scizor
Tumblr media
How do you make a mantis-velociraptor hybrid monster even cooler? Make it turn into a red steel mantis monster that can dish out and tank hits better than ever. Easily my favorite Pokémon introduced in the
15. Gardevoir
Tumblr media
Look, Gardevoir has a bit of a reputation on the internet, but that's not the reason I love it. I've adored it since I was a little kid, playing Sapphire for the first time and adding this pretty Psychic being to my team to help me crush my foes. It's such a beautiful, elegant creature, and contributes a great deal to my overwhelming adoration of the Fairy type after retroactively being given it.
14. Hatterene
Tumblr media
Gen VIII got its very own Gardevoir in this beautiful witchy Fairy, but there's a bit of a twist here; where Gardevoir loves and guards its trainer with its life, Hatterene will beat the ever-living shit out of anyone it senses is experiencing strong emotions. It's much more in line with mythical fairies than a lot of its kin, and the fact it's a pretty tough fighter only makes it more appealing to me. Love a girl that's both beautiful and deadly.
13. Roserade
Tumblr media
I was always a big fan of Roselia even back as a kid, but I was a bit sad at how it wasn't really a viable fighter. Thankfully, I only needed to wait a single generation for that problem to be solved with a gorgeous evolution. Gen IV really knocked it out of the park with improving old 'mons with great new evolutions, but Roselia got the best of the bunch in my eyes.
12. Tinkaton
Tumblr media
This is a Pokemon that just about everyone loves, but how can you not love it? It's a violent little gremlin with a hammer three times as big as its body that loves to antagonize birds by knocking rocks into the sky. The best Fairy Pokemon combine cute designs with those mischievous folkloric fairy antics, and Tinkaton is the best mix of those around.
11. Deoxys
Tumblr media
As a kid, I saw a rumor back on the internet saying that if you watched the rockets in Mossdeep City enough times, eventually you'd get to ride one to the moon and battle Deoxys. I laughed this off, thinking this was a fake rumor for a fake Pokemon... and then the movie Destiny Deoxys, one of my favorites of the series, dropped, and I was in that space station every day hoping to go to the moon. I'd have to wait til Gen VI for that dream to be realized, but this bizarre alien virus has always remained one of my favorite Pokemon regardless of how hard to acquire it tends to be.
10. Lurantis
Tumblr media
I love how clever it is conceptually; it's a reverse orchid mantis, a plant pretending to be a bug. And it's a very cute plant at that! I don't care if its slow as molasses like nearly every other Alola Pokemon, Lurantis is an absolute cutie and I'm happy it has consistently made the cut even with the Pokedex being trimmed in the newer games.
9. Blaziken
Tumblr media
My first ever starter, and one that will always hold a special place in my heart. It's hard not to love an actual fighting cock in a series accused of being superpowered cockfighting.
8. Zeraora
Tumblr media
Probably one of the least popular mythical Pokemon out there, but if Zeraora has only one fan, I am that fan. There's just something about its design that really appeals to me, and no, it's not just because I'm a furry.
7. Ceruledge
Tumblr media
Ghosts just really have the best designs. A living suit of armor that's also on fire and has flaming ghost swords for hands? Literal perfection.
6. Pyukumuku
Tumblr media
Yet another bizarre gimmick Pokemon, in the vein of Shuckle or Wobbuffet as it learns no attacking moves and has pitiful offensive stats in return for sky-high defenses. This little gimmick creature is absurdly adorable compared to those two though, and it fights by barfing up its insides in the form of a giant fist. Plus, it has the best green shiny ever, going from a mere sea cucumber to a sea pickle.
5. Volcarona
Tumblr media
Tyranitar and Hydreigon are the Godzilla and Ghidorah of Pokemon, but the trifecta is not complete for that all-out attack without Mothra. Enter Volcarona, the best and most beautiful Bug in the series. It's got absurdly high stats, an incredibly fluffy design, and an absurdly high level requirement to evolve, but boy is it ever worth it.
4. Obstagoon
Tumblr media
The only good Gene Simmons ever did for the world is inspire this upgrade for the oft-forgotten Linoone. Of course, much better than its KISS-inspired base color is its shiny alt, which is a garish glam rock/Bowie-esque bright red and blue goon.
3. Meowscarada
Tumblr media
I'm usually the type who starts off with a Fire starter, or on rare occasions the Water one. I almost never start with a Grass one... but Scarlet was the exception, because this gorgeous trickster stage magician cat is just too fucking cool to pass up on.
2. Cinderace
Tumblr media
God, I love Cinderace. It has such a sleek, cool design that makes it my favorite Fire/Fighting starter despite not even having the Fighting type. It's nimble, acrobatic, and can kick your ass into next Sunday, but it doesn't have that bitch of a type combo despite all signs pointing to it. What a funny bunny.
1. Absol
Tumblr media
Absol, and especially its Mega Evolution, are the very best Pokemon to me. I love their design, I love their tragic backstory that over the years has come to acknowledge how the Pokemon has become widely beloved by the fanbase... I trained one up to level 100 back before the Phsyical/Special split, and in those days this thing was next to useless in a fight. That's how deep my love for this Pokemon goes.
