everytime I see antis call themselves punk I lose hope in the internet again
I don't know how to say this but policing people's right to create and consume any fiction they want AND advocating for the corporal punishment of "thought criminals" cannot and will not ever be punk. shut up

personally, I think people are allowed to ship a “toxic ship” as long as it’s fictional and they can separate fiction from reality. shipping a fictional “problematic ship” doesn’t mean you’re “abuse apologist” in real life. the same way people who enjoy fictional villains are not “murderers” in real life.
it’s okay if you think this ship makes you uncomfortable and so you personally dislike it. what you can and should do is avoid their contents and refrain from interacting with people who do ship them. that mute and block buttons are your friends.
what you shouldn’t do, though, is harass people who ship them and brag about how they’re “red flags irl” and how you’re “morally superior” simply because of fictional characters.
I promise you, minding your own business and not caring about what ship strangers on the internet ship will make your fandom so much less toxic and a whole lot more enjoyable.

Is anyone gonna explain to people that ‘proship’ does not actually mean ‘problematic shipping’ or ‘problematic ship’ or are we just going to let this misinformation spread some more?
It means pro-shipping. The prefix pro, meaning ‘supporting.’ In favor of shipping.
It only became a defined position after anti-shippers who initially identified themselves as anti-a specific ship started harassing creators they didn’t like, doxxing them, and trying to get them fired from their irl jobs for shipping reasons around 2014-2016.
So people who had been in fandom for long enough to know where that kind of rhetoric leads (ffnet purges, LJ strikethru, as well as the direct harms caused by doxxing) observed this increasing trend of harassment and rallied to say ‘oh you lot are anti-shipping, as in opposed to certain ships? Well in that case, we are pro-shipping, because we follow the adage of ship and let ship.’
Before that point, it was just basic fandom etiquette to not bother people who ship stuff you don’t like, and to understand that if something squicks you out, it’s not the fault of the people who made it.
If someone says they are pro-ship, it means fuck all about what they actually enjoy in fiction.
It just means they’re opposed to harassing creators for making content that doesn’t cause tangible harm to real people. A better way to understand the ideological position is being anti-harassment and anti-censorship.
I have a lot of ships I find disgusting blacklisted so I don’t have to see them. But I am not interested in forcing people to comply with what I think is gross. That’s what it means.
Curate your online experience, and understand that your disgust response is not a defensible moral indicator or a justification to harass, deplatform, and dox fan writers.

ZoLu is such a Luffy-positive ship, I really can't fathom people actually trying to argue that it's disrespectful, wrong, or "icky" to ship him with Zoro, of all people. Like that's his person! Ship ZoLu platonically, romantically, as a QPR, whatever. They are wholesome and healthy and they fit together perfectly! You're not doing anything wrong by recognizing that.

Ok, but if you wanna circle that Siken quote around, maybe post the whole thing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second part is the important one.
Also, for those who still can't seperate fiction from reality and are obvi already pestering him, because he dared to name that ship:

On Episode 5 of "Hazbin Hotel", the fandom, and the treatment of Charlastor shippers
I'm getting really tired of all of the "Haha, I always hated Charlastor, we won, and you lost, fuck you!" people on Tumblr being rude, mean, or even downright mocking and cruel to the people who like Charlastor. No, I don't think that "Vivziepop hates Charlastor", or that there was some sort of conspiracy to "torpedo the Charlastor ship". If she did, she wouldn't have said, to paraphrase, "ship anyone you want from the show". (Hell, she once paired Vaggie and Angel Dust.)
Tumblr media
Charlastor shippers have already known for a long time that Charlastor was never going to be canon, so Episode 5 doesn't really change anything we didn't already know. Shipping is supposed to be about fun, not "winning". If you ship Charlastor, that's okay. If you don't ship or like Charlastor, that's okay, too. However, making posts or comments saying "fuck you" to Charlastor shippers, or tagging anti-Charlastor posts as "#charlastor", is deeply rude and offensive.
Harassing or bullying Charlastor shippers is also unacceptable.
I don't think Vivziepop would approve, and as a "fandom oldie" (30+) who also has friends in animation, me and my personal friends are going to keep liking and shipping Charlastor, regardless of what is - or is not - "canon". I suggest other Charlastor shippers do the same.

dear OLDER self shippers:
there’s nothing wrong with self shipping past your 20′s
whether you’re nearing 30, or in your 30′s, or even BEYOND that
self shipping is something most of us have done personally our whole lives. age has never been a factor in the comfort it brought us
self shipping is a very personal experience that no one but you has a say in
it is a valid and beautiful part of your life as long as it brings you happiness, love and peace
self shipping incorporates so much more than just gushing. the content you create and explore through your ship is magical. writing, drawing, music, lore, daydreams, and beyond - this is not only a wonderful way of coping for you, but sharing and growing as well
you shouldn’t feel bad or ashamed for self shipping as you grow older. others may quit, but this is your life and your heart
even younger self shippers who are afraid they’ll need to quit someday because of the expectations or jokes of others - don’t!
don’t allow anyone to pressure you into letting go of self ship until you are ready
and hey, that could be never!
your f/os will always love you either way, and go through life with you as long as you need them ღ

Antis: "How is writing about murder/gore and pedophilia/incest the same!? Drawing gore is way different!!"
They're both crimes.
That's how they're the same.
They both will send you to jail irl. Both murder and pedophilia will send you to jail. That's how they're the same.
That's why writing/drawing murder and torture is in the same boat as pedophilia. They're just two different forms of horror. If drawing torture doesn't mean you want to actually torture someone then drawing incest doesn't mean you actually want to have sex with your siblings.
Because they are the same.

I hate to sound chronically online but genuinely why do antis only go after eastern creators on the very rare occasion they go after a larger artist?? Like it's such a strange phenomenon where they'll say that Hetalia is racist or MHA promotes pedophilia or that Beastars is for zoophiles or how SpyXFamily is lolicon bait
But those SAME FUCKING PEOPLE are SouthPark fans, or Star Wars fans, or into FNaF, or they're slasher fans. Like genuinely.
Why is edgy content ONLY okay when a western artist does it?? Like I'm not trying to be rude or call people racist but I genuinely just do not understand.

Shipping has always been such a big comfort for me. It's sad to see such vulgar genuine hatred people have for one another just over shipping, and the push to harass people out of shipping things that comfort them just because it's "problematic" or "gross". Don't let those people get to ya, ship whatever you want! Do what makes you happy! :D

what my 65yo father has to say about antis:
let me preface this by saying, i literally wish i had what just happened on video to go viral on TikTok. i was shook by this conversation down to my bones; and if you could see my father - a loud old Italian man with dramatic hand gestures - say what he had to say, i think this shit would blow up. but as i was obviously not filming him while we were eating, i will have to relay to you the story with my words.
so i'm sitting eating dinner at the coffee table with my father while watching TV, as Americans often do instead of eating at the dinner table, and since the news was on he started telling me this story that had been recently mentioned on TV once again from maybe ten years ago (it was in 2014, you can read about it here) where these two 12-year-old girls killed one of their friends as a sacrifice to the Slender Man. yeah, real thing. fucked up.
and so my father told me about how they interviewed one of the killer's mothers, and when questioned about where her daughter's motive could've come from, she said something along the lines of: you know, when i was a kid, i was into Stephen King and horror - and so when my kid was into that kind of stuff, i didn’t think it was a big deal.
so, of course, my response was "yeah, being into that stuff isn’t a big deal at all - it's normal - but being a sociopath and murdering someone is not normal; it's fucked up. but there's nothing wrong with being into horror stories - they're just stories meant to entertain - it doesn't make you a murderer to enjoy Halloween - but it would if you put on a Michael Myers mask and went out and stabbed people." and, of course, like any sane person, my father agreed with me.
then, continuing this line of conversation, i started talking about the concept of how "fiction isn’t reality," and how a frightening amount of people don't understand that; and i literally started telling him about antis - people on the internet who attack and harass others over "problematic" or "inappropriate" fictional interests.
i used well-known pop culture examples like: if you're into Game of Thrones and like Jaime and Cersei together or wanted Jon and Daenerys to end up together (i didn't think he would process the term "shipping," but clearly by the end of this conversation i think i was wrong), that people (antis) will say things like "you should die," and that you "support inc*st in real life," and that "you're disgusting."
i also used the examples of "toxic relationships" in pop culture, like the Joker and Harley Quinn, or Kylo Ren and Rey, and how if you’re into those kinds of fictional relationships that people (antis) will say that you "support toxic relationships," and that you are "glorifying abuse," and that it all "must be what you really want and believe is right or good."
and my fucking 65-year-old father literally goes: "I don’t understand. It’s a TV show. Don't they know it’s fake?"
queue my jaw dropping to the fucking ground because i'm like. YES. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT PRO-SHIPPERS ARE TRYING TO SAY AND THESE PEOPLE DON'T GET IT.
he was flabbergasted, my pals. the shock in his eyes was incredible to behold.
and, oh boy, that isn't even the best part, guys.
my father then says, "Don’t tell me it’s like that with anime too?"
and i said, "it's worse with anime."
and i fucking swear to you - no joke, on my life and baby Jesus' cradle - again my 65-year-old father looks at me and says, “It’s a fucken cartoon."
... ... ...
... i can't ...
i can't end this post better than that.
