As a huge gelato/pumpkin spice icecream shipper I couldn’t help but notice some of the hate directed towards the ship in the fandom and I just wanted some explanation as to why people see it as bad? I joined a RWBY discord server that had ship channels and I suggested a gelato channel but they said it won’t be accepted since it’s not great to ship Neo and Roman (While they had a spicecream channel which- no hate- but seems much more of a toxic relationship than gelato).

As far as I’m aware they are both legal adults when volume 2 comes out, so when we meet Neo for the first time so I don’t really understand the whole age gap argument? Also I guess some do see it as more of a brother/sister or parental relationship but personally I think it’s quite bad to interpret it that way since the entirety of Roman Holiday talks about how sick and tired Neo was of authority figures/adults constantly pushing her around so her seeing Roman as a fatherly figure just wouldn’t make sense?

Give me your personal take on this.

Also I respect people who don’t ship it and see them just as good partners and friends but going after those who enjoy them as a ship is just wrong.

God I seriously cannot get over this, over them.

I got so many thoughts about Bumbleby (FINALLY CANON I WAITED TEN FUCKING YEARS FUCK) and Whiterose (I’ll take my crumbs thank you) but these two were the ones that surprised me the most.

It speaks immensely that Roman, always a charismatic, suave, cunning villain was very gentle with Neo. It’s been known that he cared about her deeply, and of course Neo’s arc lets us know she cared about him more than anything, but that is the face of a man who LOVED, a man who knew EXACTLY what he was, the kind of person he was, he called Ruby a ‘hero’ because he had no qualms being a villain, a bad guy, he played his role perfectly and loved every second of it, being scum, helping the big evil, lying, stealing, cheating... and he also loved.

He loved Neo, and my God does she love him so much? No matter how wretched and scheming they were, they always had each other, and their hearts will always belong to one another.

To know she’s never to have her love back, that no matter what she does, who she goes after, tricks, scares or even kills, nothing is going to bring Roman back, he’s gone and she has to deal with that.

Oh Neo, I hope you can be happy and with Roman, however that may be.

Pumpkin spice drama???? Hello???????

Oh dear. Ok. First, I want to make it ABUNDANTLY clear, if you like PSLs, more power to you, have at it, I will get you one on my next group coffee run. But if you ask me if I want to try it and I say no? Leave it at that.

So. When PSL first became a thing, there weren’t too many issues. Some people liked it, some people didn't, as all opinion-based things should be. However...

Some people who liked PSL started being really weird about it. It became a personality trait. And if someone said they weren't a fan of psl, it was a personal attack. I personally lost friends over it, literally because "just try it!" "I did, I don't like it, sorry". I had people, on multiple occasions, get me a psl on a coffee run because they decided it was a better choice than what I had asked for (I quickly learned that this wasn’t an isolated event).

Obviously, this pissed people off, and the tables turned and when psl season came around, those who were used to spending that season being bombarded with "just try it" "how do you not like it" "you're a terrible person" (< was actually said to me when I wouldn't accept a psl that I specifically asked not to be given), got grumpy over it and began acting wary of psl lovers. Some people even started being rude about it (which isn't ok, but like, I get it).

And now, suddenly the SAME psl lovers who were awful to me years ago over are crying that they're being bullied JUST because they like a drink. And no, they aren't, they're being bullied for being bullies, and honestly, I have very little sympathy for it. You push it in peoples faces, it's all you can talk about during the season, you don't respect when people say stop, and then you cry when people get mad at you over it.

And now to tie it all together:

This reminds me of the shipping discourse because other popular ship fans (kr//bk, izu//ocha mostly) would start attacking bkdks, screaming about how it's a bad ship, not canon, no chance to be canon, etc, but then as soon as bkdks turn around and start defending themselves (on their own posts might I add) suddenly we're toxic and awful and that's why we aren't liked by other fans. Like I'm really glad tddk/tdbk and others can be chill ships, but that's REAL easy to do when you're not constantly being attacked by antis.
