What One Piece’s Characters would smell like and Parfums they use

A/N: Let’s all pretend that everyone showers regularly or something alright

Luffy:

Top Notes: Aquozone, Patchouli, and Bergamot.

Middle Notes: Sandalwood, Oak, and Green Mandarin,

Base Notes: Amber, Cedar, Pinetree, Leather, and Seaweed.

This man was born for the sea. So, as it should be, his scent somewhat matches that of the sea herself, but is mixed with the alluring wind of forests. Luffy is usually the first one to jump off the ship and run amok on a new island, barreling through dense thickets and tumbling across wet patches of dirt. The sea wind gently caresses his hair as the woods whispered their names onto his clothes. If you were one of the lucky people to be granted a hug by this rubber-man, you would first notice how his hair smells just like the sea air, salty and fresh, and somehow refreshing… just like his signature smile. As you lean in closer, the scent flows into something earthly. Sunkissed leather mixed with the tingles of pinecones and evergreen gives you a warm feeling inside that you can never forget.

Parfums I associate with Luffy: Kenzo Homme by Kenzo, No. 19 by Sukimuki, and Malbec Ultra Bleu by O Boticário.

 Zoro:

Top Notes: Olibanum, White Musk, Myrrh, and a bit of cleaner/acetone.

Middle notes: Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, and Yuzu.

Base notes: Oud, Frankincense, and Jasmine.

No, he doesn’t smell like moss, alright. (No matter what a certain Curly-eyebrow(ed?) Cook would say). I would say his scent doesn’t hit with most folks at first glance (Just like his scary resting bitch-face). The first whiff you get when facing Zoro is the somewhat bitter and sour smell of his sword polish. When you have three swords to take care of, you must have to use a lot of polish to keep them all pristine. Chances are that the smell will rub off on you as well. Once you get used to the polish(?) (cleaner?) smell, you’ll find that it swirls into alternate hues of floral and woodsy. You’ll find yourself getting lost in this confusing stream of different scents with floral, fruity, and woodsy overlays, slowly pushing that bitter scent(s?) out. Only then will you finally get to see what hides underneath all that frowning and indifference.

A/N: I chose the floral and fruity notes since Zoro likes to drink sake a lot! And Sake is usually brewed with both flowers and fruits ૮꒰ ིྀ ⍝ ⍝ ꒱ა!!

Parfums I associate with Zoro: Haxan by Parfum Prissana, Anubis by Papillon Artisan, and Macaque – Yuzu Edition by Zoologist (A/N: A fav!!).

Nami:

Top Notes: Tangerine, Mikan (A/N: Japanese Orange/ The Fruit that Bell-mère grew!, Peach, and Sorbet.

Middle Notes: Candle Wax and Orange Blossom

Base Notes: Ink, Tea, and Honeysuckle.

As a former resident of Cocoyashi Village, the sweet, tangy fragrance of tangerine(s?) and mikan(s?) would follow her everywhere, even if she didn’t end up bringing some of the fruit trees on board. Smooth, charming, and fruity, these are the first thoughts that pop up in a stranger’s head when face to face with this orange-hair(ed?) cutie.  And they wouldn’t be wrong! Whereas those who are closer to this navigator will find her aura soothes into something comforting and homely. I imagine that Nami likes to work into the late nights or early mornings on her maps, surrounded by empty ink pots, hand stained by ink, candles almost melted to the base, and a cup of warm tea that Sanji keeps on refilling while gently trying to get her to rest. I also imagine that Nami keeps a half-empty bottle of Mikan based perfume that Bell-mère once made; it’s not the best or longest lasting perfume, but it smells like home, and that’s enough for her.

Parfums I associate with Nami: Paradisi by Jorum Studio, Sorbetto by Brocard, and Figues & Argumes by Lancôme

Usopp:

Top Notes: Gunpowder (A/N: Yes there are parfums that smell like gunpowder), Orchids, and White flowers.

Middle Notes: Leather, Nettle, and Galbanum.

Base Notes: Vetiver, Violet leaf, and Patchouli.

It hard to pinpoint what exactly “God” Usopp would smell like, though here I will try my best to explain my thoughts on it. As an almighty sniper and crafter, gunpowder and oil would be the main scents you’d get from him. The next whiff, however, will confuse most as they come across vibrant splashes of greenery among (us) a bundle of flowers. Having  his own garden on the Sunny where he grows his ‘Pop Green’ ammo and having trained on the Boin Archipelago, it would make sense that the plants he takes care of will rub off on him in some way. It has a much heavier scent, leaning more on forest vibes than the lighter and fruitier greens that Nami has. I imagine he talks to Nami and Robin while gardening and trade tips between the three of them.

Parfums I associate with Usopp: Forest Lungs by The Nue, Amour Nocturne by L’Artisan, and Nefertiti by Maher Olfactive.

Sanji:

Top Notes: Cigarettes, Spices, and Neroli.

Middle Notes: Black Tea, Pink Pepper, and Musk.

Base Notes: Labdanum, and Tonka Bean.

Sanji would tend to stay away from strong smelling parfums or colognes when working in the kitchen, as smell is a huge part of tasting food. On a daily basis, Sanji would smell like cigarette smoke, the numerous spices he had in the kitchen, and sort of lemony. When he’s off the job, he picks parfums that would at the very least leave a long-lasting impression on whoever he’s trying to swoon that day. Deep and heavy, but not uses overbearing. The subtle savor of freshly brewed black tea that Sanji made cling to his form was followed by a whiff of something earthy and slightly sweet. It makes you yearn for a closer sniff, to fully envelop yourself in this soothing scent.

Parfums I associate with Sanji: Club De Nuit BY Armaf, Royal Oud by Creed, and Eau De Citron Noir by Hermès.

Chopper:

Top Notes: Cotton Candy, Sugar, and Vanilla.

Middle Notes: White Musk, Lavender, and Eucalyptus.

Base Notes: Vetiver, Berries, and Cedarwoods.

Oh, sweet, sweet, Chopper, of course this adorable little guy would smell like the fluffy, sugary confection known as ‘Cotton Candy’. For the first whiff anyway, as this little Reindeer always has his nose on the lookout for sweets. On any island that the Straw Hats dock on to make a supply run, someone will get this little guy a snack or two. Whether it be Franky offering his little bro this cool new soda he came across or Zoro and Sanji both coming in with cotton candy in hand, arguing that Chopper should take theirs over the other (He takes both anyway). Chopper is always munching on something sweet that will ultimately smear all over the fur on his face.

Robin will routinely help him out by dabbing his face with a wet cloth. So, underneath the first honeyed layer, you’ll get a more herby and still slightly sweet smell emerging. His natural animalistic scent is mixed in with the smell of all the herbs in the medicine he makes. It is not as bitter or antiseptic smelling as you think; it is more akin to walking through a very clean forest path.

Parfums I associate with Chopper: Foxcroft Fairgrounds by Solstices Scents, Sun Men by Jil Sander, and Zucchero Filato by Kyse.

First ship: I think my first ship was from Pokemon, being Amourshipping. I was obsessed with it a long time ago. I'm not sure if I still ship it but it's probably because I've lost interest in the Pokemon anime... 😅

hi! could you recommend me an accessible perfume with mysterious fairy vibes please? something fresh and gauzy and sweet but not cloying and would remind you of a crisp and probably a slightly chilly spring day ? hope that's not too specific a description. I've been looking but haven't found anything I like yet but I like how you review perfumes so I thought I'd ask. thanks!

so what qualifies as affordable to you vs to me can depend highly... like i'm in the EU so anything from niche perfumers in the US entails a high shipping fee + customs tax but if you're in the US i'd say those are pretty good deals. and idk how much of your disposable income you wanna dedicate to perfumes either / what brands are sold in stores near you etc

but anyway putting that aside here are some recs

alkemia silver sky -  "rainwater musk, oceanic grey amber, muget, daffodil, silver needle tea, galbanum, and white cedar" androgynous, translucent, cucumbery, watery-floral

alkemia lilacs along the winding drive - "lilac bushes heavy and purple with blooms, a gentle breeze after light spring rain, a dusty pebbled driveway, a slightly rusty porch swing, and a small handful of late blooming violets." mostly lilac tbh but a nice springtime floral

bpal sjöfn - "apples and birch bound with apple blossoms" golden (not red) apples and a medical green sharpness. juicy and revitalizing, def not cloying

bpal juliet - "sweet pea with stargazer lily, calla lily, heliotrope, honeysuckle, white musk and a touch of fresh pear." - ethereal floral, very rounded sweetness to it. reminds me of floral soap. clean and prim. pear and sweet pea and honeysuckle-forward.

bpal moscow - "a rich, bold blend of imperial rose, carnation, lush jasmine, lily of the valley, dark musk, amber, bergamot and gilded tangerine." more majestic floral than juliet, still soapy clean but more complex and cold floral notes rather than fruity sweetness.

bpal titania - "fae dew-kissed petals and pale fruits: white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon." very on theme for fairy vibes, definitely a sweet crisp fruity floral, also rather clean (kinda reminds me of herbal essence shampoos back in the day idk). very pretty

all of these are like 20-30 bucks apiece and believe me 5ml of perfume oil lasts forever. i don't really have any mainstream recs i've tried under like 50 bucks but i'd look for pear, violet, freesia, lilac, tea, bergamot, oakmoss, white musk kinda notes. best of luck!

(I opened them all for a lil sniff so sorry the tops are kinda scuffed) Kinda hard to see the names so here's what I got: Gyruko, mountain yellow, sichuan sword tip, spiced plum, berry basket, apple harvest, autumn spice, white peach, iccha kariban and dragonwell!!

This ain't sponsored ofc but lil rant about my love for them

Brand is Happy Mug Coffee and while their speciality is coffee they have a pretty extensive tea collection. Their prices are great, their quality is great, their shipping time is amazing (pretty sure they always ship same day on week day) and if you want to dip your foot into japanese and/or chinese green teas, this is a great option. Samples are usually just a $1-3 dollars so you can try a lot at once.

Some personal fav recommendations

. Iccha Kariban - amazing sencha, great for every day drinking. Extremely affordable too, at only $7 for 4 oz (aka a lot of tea, like 50+ cups) At least from my experience, and I've tried a lot of senchas available in the US, you will not find a better quality here, let alone for this price point. I've bought it two other times and have no regrets. Gives you a lovely burst of energy without the jitters, great way to get you awake on a cold morning

. Jasmine Pearl - great option for ppl who love foral teas. Super fragrant, a bit sweet and absolutely amazing for getting your lazyass to wake up on cold mornings just so you can sniff the jasmine tea lol. $15 per 4oz, seems pricy but is actually quite cheap for jasmine pearls, for instance it goes for $26 on Harney and Sons for the same amount in loose tea and most the other ones at a similar price point are awful quality. Is worth every penny imo.

. Matcha - I usually use this for cooking cause the caffeine content is a bit much for my anxiety BUT they have two grades of matcha, one more culinary and one ceremonial. Not sure how these compare to other brands since I haven't tried many others but no complaints. Since matcha usually runs rlly expensive and the culinary grade is only $10 for 4 oz or $3 for 1oz, doesn't hurt to give it a try. If you've never tried making matcha chocolate ur rlly missing out~

Ginger - if you get sick stomachs a lot like I do, rejoice cause they have 4oz for $4. That'll last you a longgg time

Lemon Mint Ginger - Similar to the first one, this one is great for not only sick stomachs but also just when you're sick or feel kinda under the weather. It's super comforting, great with honey.

They also have decaf coffee, I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I tried one of their decafs and quite liked it! If you don't need decaf like I do they ofc have many many caffeinated ones to choose from. From what I hear their Rainy Day blend is rlly good.

And honestly when what I've seen they just seem like sweet people who deserve all the support they get. If I ever get to the point where I can have black tea again I'm ordering samples of like their entire catalog, I just adore them.

sanji really REALLY tried not to go overboard with uta's breakfast spread, mainly because chopper had ill advised against her eating too much food, namely anything greasy or dense in general, after she had been sleeping so long (three whole days!) to recover from all the wake shrooms in her system; staying properly sustained on an iv for fluids. which was a valid concern with sound reasoning, especially coming from the ship's trusted & esteemed doctor. but the blond can't help himself. it's the very first meal she'll ever taste from him & he wanted it to be special! not just homemade soup & some crackers, like a hospital would offer. initial impressions were very important! not to mention, the blond could hardly contain his excitement to spoil such a lovely lady as her, the wait further festering his need to nurture & please & provide. his patience eventually began to turn into slight nerves.

& despite how they all had originally met uta, with her trying to kill them & all -it was all water under the metaphorical bridge now. she was their captain's adopted sister, after all, it was a no brainer that she'd come into their fold once issues were settled; instead of remaining alone like she had been. she was no longer influenced to do bad things, there was no need to treat her like a villain any longer; though she had noble intentions behind her actions.

luckily, this environment was much more proper & safe to welcome her to their crew. enough rest & relaxation melted away any lingering tension there could possibly be between everyone. good food also helped calm people down.

the singer doesn't startle him, but he is surprised when he suddenly sees her sleepy, but still beautiful, face enter his peacefully quiet galley. his whole expression lights up in wonder, lone blue eye not covered by his neartly combed hair, sparkling. her bedhead was simply adorable! this morning was better already now that she was up & around.

"g-good morning, my dove!" he calls out breathlessly, carefully finishing up her first plate of the day with a bit of powdered sugar. she had arrived just in time!

sanji did not know if she ate like her brothers, or what she liked, so he made a bit of everything to learn her likes & dislikes. after the rest of the crew ate, of course. thus, luffy wouldn't steal her food (he could eat the leftovers though), she wouldn't be bombarded with questions from the rest of the crew (for now) & ultimately, the chef could focus just on her, without any distractions (a dream come true).

"please, take a seat my dear! I made us some crepes."

there's also some pumpkin pancakes, potato pancakes, hash browns, breakfast potatoes, eggs scrambled & fried & boiled, two different types of bacon, three of sausage, an array of fruit toppings (strawberries, blueberries, bananas, peaches), multiple syrups (maple, cherry), jams & marmalades (raspberry, grape, blackberry), chocolate (both white & milk) chips & freshly squeezed jugs of orange & grapefruit juice; along with ice cold milk, hot & iced coffee, & sweet or green tea.

She entertained captains on board when gamming with other ships, and that’s when the food bounty tended to come out. Often the foods were a mix of what was available to them (i.e. if they recently caught fish or found shellfish, got tropical fruit from a provisioning stop, etc.), and things other captains gave her as gifts that she saved for such occasions.

Captain Chatfield went out this forenoon, so that we only had two captains to dine with us, Captains Jernegan and Lester. Had a fish chowder, a large stuffed and baked fish, coffee, bread and butter and preserves, and a roll pudding. Had some huckleberry pies made for supper, but they did not stop.

Holidays were also an occasion for fancier food than usual. Here’s Christmas:

Minnie hung up her stocking last night. She was fearful that she should get nothing in it, as we could not go to the store, but she succeeded as well for eatables as if she had been at home. We had quite a Christmas dinner: roast chickens, stuffed, potatoes, turnips, onions, stewed cranberries, pickled beets and cucumbers, and a plum duff. For tea I had a tin of preserved grape opened and cut a loaf of fruitcake.

Everyone seemed to love her daughter Minnie, who was 5-9 years old over the course of the voyage. Whaling wives and—more rarely seen—their children, were definitely a domestic novelty.

We all passed a very pleasant day, Captain Winegar enjoying it very much; it reminded him so strongly of home. Minnie attracted much notice as usual. She is generally the center of attention with company. She is not afraid to speak, and her replies are generally to the point and usually interspersed with some salt remarks. The captain gave me a couple pounds of green tea, a couple tins of preserved pineapple, and a few shells. I forgot to mention that we carried him a little pig and gave him a piece of fresh pork. The cook gave Minnie a little china cup and saucer, which pleased her very much. For dinner we had a roast duck, potatoes, onions, some very nice biscuit, coffee, mince pie, and for dessert preserved peaches, pineapples, and quinces. For supper we had oysters, cold duck, biscuit, preserved pears, mince pie, doughnuts, and cookies, Captain Winegar doing the honors very well. We arrived home delighted with our visit.

Here’s Minnie celebrating her 8th birthday by presiding over a tea party with a bunch of whaling officers, that her mom prepared.

We set the table and called the officers down about half-past 7 P.M. Minnie was so happy she hardly knew what to do with herself, and I think we all enjoyed it pretty well. The officers all united in saying that they had not sat down to such a table since they left home. The treat consisted of a plate of sister Celia’s fruitcake, two loaves of cupcake frosted, two plates of currant jelly tarts, and a dish of preserved pineapple, also hot coffee, good and strong, with plenty of milk and white sugar. After we had finished there was ample supply left, which was sent into the steerage for boatsteerers, etc.

In addition to tea party leftovers being sent to the boatsteerers, foods were also made for the foremast hands as a special occasion too.

Luxuriated today in roast chickens for the cabin, and a pork sea pie for the forecastle, with occasional lunches of pineapple, bananas, and coconuts.

There were some struggles with her cooking ventures too, however:

This afternoon we killed two hens; Cynthia and Coopie. It made Minnie feel very sad to have Cynthia killed. I must not allow her to name her chickens for her friends; it makes her feel so badly when they are killed. […] I made our chickens into a pie today. The officers said it seemed like home. It was not baked well; the crust was not done. I should have more courage to make knickknacks if I could attend to the baking of them, but of course it would not do for me to go into the galley.

All in all the fare was quite fine compared to…food on whaleships in general.

Three ships: I don’t think I become invested in media in this way. I generally strongly support queerships that are sort of obvious but canonically unconfirmed, especially when they eventually are written in. Like I was a strong advocate for Harley/Ivy probably since the ‘90s. Or Chandra/Nissa, even though I don’t exactly love those characters. Garak/Bashir is fun. Samus/Peach is cute. Tifa/Aerith/Cloud thruple is yes. I feel like Frodo/Sam is essentially just canon.

Last song: I think probably ‘Blues At Midnight’ by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, but I've been listening to a lot of Béla Bartók’s European folk dances on solo piano (so maybe ‘Este a Székelyeknél’) and Itzhak Perlman’s klezmer (so maybe ‘אַלע ברידער’ or some fuckin’ freilech).

Last movie: Cry Of The City starring Victor Mature and Richard Conte. It was fucking rad, mate. It’s possible I put on some Miyazaki film (probably Laputa or Mononoke) to fall asleep to after that, but I don’t remember and if so I only saw the first few minutes before drifting off anyway.

Currently reading: Idk I’ve started The Castle Of Otranto like five times at this point. I was (re-)reading a bit of Black Skin White Masks earlier today. I wanna finally read something by Ursula K. Le Guin, probably The Dispossessed, but maybe The Left Hand Of Darkness or A Wizard Of Earthsea. Also just got Enemies: A Love Story and The Magician Of Lublin by Isaac Bashevis Singer, so may start them. I recently downloaded PDFs of Castle In The Air by Diana Wynne Jones and The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker, so I may just settle on one of those.

Currently watching: In between things. Recently watched the second season of Picard (about which I have mixed feelings). Tried watching The Chemistry Of Death but was unmotivated to continue past the first couple episodes (it had pros and cons).

It was love at first sight and within four months they were married and Nixie's birth followed an additional seven months later. ● Due to her parents work, they never truly had a set home. Instead, she spent her childhood traveling on ships or boats and visiting exotic and beautiful locations, staying in everything from hostels to hotels and rented out rooms. ● Their education came mostly in the form of homeschooling and lessons taught both by their mother and the various women who helped raise and shape them throughout their childhood, most of their knowledge (and the things that piqued their interest) not coming from the things found in a textbook or classroom. ● It was throughout their travels that they became increasingly aware of the impact of global warming, particularly on the places that they loved to much, and in hopes to make a more impactful change going forward, they enrolled in Ogden. ● They definitely do care about their education and being able to help, but being as wild as they are, Nixie struggles with actually attending classes and staying on top of their assignments, something she too often has to be reminded about.

It had to have been fate that allowed their paths to cross, no coincidence that the ship she wasn’t have meant to have been on broke down while in his zone, that she’d wandered out of her room and into directly into him. It was love at first sight, two people destined for each other, a romance that others might try to simplify but the Linghui’s refuse to view it so plainly. It took a mere four months before they were tying the knot, a wedding some called shotgun soon after the fact, but the child growing inside of Carley was unbeknownst to them at the time, a welcome surprise when that beautiful baby arrived seven months later. To say that Nixie's upbringing was unorthodox would still be managing to down play it. She may have been born in Funafuti but it was never home, pulled to the seas before she was even a year old. In fact, home wasn't a word that they identified in the traditional sense — home was people, it was a feeling, no set place that ever been able to hold them. Nixie spent their time drifting; beaches and islands, boats and ships, oceans and villages that so few people got to experience. There was a plethora of time spent under the watchful eye of local women, incredible elders from varying backgrounds who’d lived and seen so much more than her, who shared their wisdom and stories and helped shape her. Of course, home schooling was mandatory, even with no singular home it was important she learn — and although they passed, it was no easy task, mind drifting and focus elsewhere, always feeling they could experience and learn more from the world around them than any book. While the past two decades have allowed them to experience beautiful and exotic places, they've also forced them to be witness to the suffering of the world — particularly of small islands, populations that have lived there for centuries and are often putting the least strain on the environment, remaining most affected by it. It’s why she’s journeyed to Ogden, the stillest she’s ever been and for the longest extent of time, leaving her skin itching for change. Nixie wants to learn and help the places and people that have come to be so important to her, but don’t be surprised if you find her arriving to class late or not at all, wandering the hiking trails while the skies are dark or laying on the water for so long people begin to worry she’s merely a body.

EXPAND ON HOW THEY EMBODY THEIR SKELETON TROPE;

For perhaps anyone who's appreciated an iteration of Hamlet, the visual is clear — long, disheveled hair and bare feet, clad in a dress and often pictured amidst flowers and water. It's not just the visual of her that takes people's mind to that place, however. They display the same childlike naivety, as if entirely unaware of the harsh realities of the word, a mind that it seems has taken a step away from the real world while at the same instant, holds gently onto secrets that no one else may ever may be privy to the knowledge of. At times it's unclear if Nixie is plagued by an invisible illness or merely not of this world, questions that her unwillingness to answer acts to make her all the more bewitching.

RELATIONSHIP TO GREER;

Their first encounter was unexpected and the ones that followed were even more so. Nixie was an almost impossible person to pin down, floating around with her parents like a piece of drift wood lost to the sea. It was thanks to the beautiful locations that their work took them that she was privy to many experiences most her age were not so lucky to enjoy. The couple may not have been able to afford the luxury of the vacation homes and resorts that the Morrison family could, but the ocean and it's mainland were things trickier to lay claim upon. The same beach at the same time, together and yet somehow worlds apart — though to an outside eye, it seemed the pair were either unaware or unaffected by that reality.
