When someone confides in you that they ship a completely harmless het ship, which is canon, but they are too scared to say it anymore because the last time they posted meta on it, neo puritans in their teens sent them death threats for two months and tried to call them a homophobe, because they saw them as a homophobe for not shipping one of the mxm fandom ships. The worst part was, the person DID like that mxm ship- they just had a separate blog fully dedicated to it. But the puritans didn't even see it.

The problem isn't with the shipping itself, but with the ppl doing it

It's just like how some ppl act with bi or pan characters. Many times these characters are shipped with another of the opposite binary gender and ppl will just act as if they are straight with a fun gimmick. Or will ship them with a character of the same binary gender and act as if they are gay with their other capabilities for attraction being a thing that has to be overcome/ comphet/ lesser

The same happens with aspec characters. Ppl use the real fact that aspecs can and do have committed relationships as an excuse to completely erase their identity. Acting as if their aroness or aceness (everyone forgets that apl ppl exist and are even more mortified when they remember) is a trauma response or immaturity or something that either has to be fixed or can be happily ignored

We wouldn't be so mad at you shipping aspec characters if you could be respectful while doing it
