I have a question about the Shirshus in the Avatar universe because I think this might be one of the few inconsistencies from the Kyoshi novels that is still bothering me.

In ATLA June says that the Shirshu could track the scent of a dead person just as well as the scent of a living one, hence Aang just doesn't exist. But then in The Rise of Kyoshi it is mentioned that "Shirshu followed living scents, and the animal would not have come here if she were dead." which leads me to a question of what is the actual answer??

Can Shirshus track dead people or not?

Does Anyone Else Think It’s Really Lame They Used CGI Animals?

They couldn’t spring for a real Sky Bison? Or a Shirshu? Not even a simple flying lemur?

Pathetic.

The Badger Moles and Dragons better be ACTUAL IRL LIVING CREATURES or else the live action is RUINED!

What’s next? CGI spirits instead of actually casting a face-stealer in the role of Koh?

Smh. Literally unwatchable.

Can't decide if I see the Beifong kids going to a really preppy private school or being homeschooled.

Though I think I'm leaning towards homeschooled. I could see Su, the attention starved control freak she is, wanting her kids right beside her at all times. She's helicopter mom like that.

And I just imagine that the only people they ever interacted with was family and staff. None of them are properly socialised. I feel like homeschooling would work for some of them. But definetly not Kuvira and the twins.

I could also see Aiwei as someone who would teach them. He seems to know his way around herbs. At least to the point were Su wasn't suspicious when he conveniently had the cure to the shirshu venom the red lotus used to try and kidnap Korra.

ATLA LA Ep5 Thoughts:

I love the princess mononoke vibes of the Hei Bai plotline

We know this is not OG Ozai because OG Ozai loves him some self-serving flattery.

I don't like that they are flattening Azula's antagonism towards Zuko into a jealous woman stereotype.

The shirshu looks like something out of stranger things, definitely the best cg beast we've seen so far

I think June should give Zuko his first sexual experience.

Azula's fire turning blue! This makes me feel like they are trying to do an "origin" for Azula, to build her up into someone who is obsessed with one-upping Zuko (which causes her fire to turn permanently blue because something something rage and hatred). I still think it flattens the character to make her motivation into jealousy over a male character's power. Not that she wasn't insecure and jealous before, because she was. But OG Azula didn't know she was insecure and jealous until it was too late.

Okay I was kinda spoiled for the fox thing but I am SO CHARMED

The flashback to Kya's death was brutal. The added layer of Katara trying to bend and Yon Rah seeing it, thinking it was Kya. Jesus.

I do like how Sokka and Katara's flashbacks emphasize the loss of their community.

Oh, well that's a sad contrast to the Sokka who we see acting like the pillar of the community in Ep1.

Koh is so creepy! And expanding on his underutilized role in the original series is what an adaptation should be doing.

I've also been spoiled about Zuko's crew so Zuko's antagonism towards Jee feels like he's punishing himself for caring, which makes that end shot of him watching them have fun from afar even sadder.
