2022 Wrapped
tagged by @displayheartcode & @hinnyfied 💖
Post the top 5 works you're most proud of that you released in 2022 (not necessarily your most popular)
confessions should be better planned this little oneshot really challenged my storytelling and how to convey my sense of humor. i’m very proud to say that it ended up exactly how i wanted.
enough of both another oneshot that i put together for ttb summer soireé, the idea of harry and ginny as newlyweds is so so interesting to me and i like the idea of them writing letters during their brief bouts of long distance
what we had become (before we ever had begun) this was a brain worm that Would Not Leave Me Alone until i finally wrote it all down. it was my first contribution to jilytober (even though it’s jilypad) and i think i’m most proud that i not only wrote it but had the courage to post, because it is not my usual content.
already gone i dove headfirst into the angst, which has never felt like a strength of mine, and decided to fully commit to the bit. this one surprised me so much, i have no outline, no real plan, i am pantsing the shit out of it and i love it so so much
the path from you 104,000 words, two spin offs, and twelve chapters later, the universe that lives in my mind because of this fic has completely taken over my life. and we are only half done. i love the journey harry and ginny are on and i love that so many other people love it too
your top 4 current WIPs that you're excited to release in the new year
the path from you PART 2 - i really want to finish part one by april and kickstart part 2 (neville/pansy & ron/padma) by the second half of the year
spring fever - a contribution to @hpknotfest that is self-indulgent smut and i’m not gonna be ashamed about it LOL
ginny potter and the honeymoon of horrors - i’ve mentioned this one in passing several times and i really *really* like it. it is so stupid and so fun.
a crack fic that i am writing with @nuatthebeach ... no comment
your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year
drafting - though i still want to get better at drafting, i am miles ahead of where i was a year ago. i have really embraced the imperfect first draft and my writing is so much better for it
plotting - i used to be a pantser through and through, but tackling a multichap action fic forced me to actually outline.
prose - this is so general but i really feel like the rhythm and emotion in my exposition has improved. i’ve found new ways of saying things and added so much depth to my characters because of it.
your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year
i really want to be a better problem solver, i know i have a good imagination but when what i outlined doesn’t immediately work on the page i get really discouraged, so i want to be more creative in working through my bouts of writer's block
along the same lines, i’d like to be able to *trust* my decision making and not constantly need outside reassurance for my story decisions.. (i really need to thank @narukoibito @nuatthebeach and @fairsquare16 for helping me through this year. i could not have done any of this without them)
and your number 1 favorite line you've written this year
My favorite line that i’ve written this year hasn’t been posted yet... it’s from a later chapter of the path from you:
Harry kissed her the way he’d always wanted to, the way he should’ve the moment Tom Riddle’s body had crumpled to the floor.

Writer's Problem
So, right now, my brain is having issues trying to focus on any one WIP and actually write more then a sentence or a few words. I've been in slumps before, so I'm hoping that it won't last too long. Although, I find that I get discouraged rather easy, so some feedback from those that like/get excited about stuff I've written, might help me out a bit.

for the fanfic writer ask: 68, 49, and 39! Hope you are having a wonderful day!!!!
Thanks for asking 🤎
68. What, if anything, do you do for inspiration?
Nothing! It's either there or it's not, and I can't control it. I've long since stopped trying. It's better to let it come as it wants and run its course.
49. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
Oh yeah. It's a very, very tiny percentage, but at present, I have 144 fics across 7 fandoms, and a couple of those are/were juggernaut ships. Even a small percentage of shit is quite a few in number.
I don't handle it with any particular grace. I don't get discouraged due to rude comments, but I do get incandescently pissed, and my policy is to be civil right until the other party isn't. You can guess how that goes. I tried the delete-and-ignore route a lot, but that just upset me more. Maybe I'll get there one day, who knows.
39. Share a snippet from a WIP
I thiiink I've seen you say you're fond of Nanami? So let me grab something from his PoV. Be warned that the fic itself is a dark-ish goyuu AU, and it shows:
“Are you…” Kento can’t figure out to finish it. Alright would practically be an invitation to lie, the kind of concern that’s worse than no concern. Consenting would require addressing things Kento and Itadori reached a silent agreement to ignore the instant Kento knocked on the boy’s door to give him the sandwiches earlier. Happy would just be a bad joke. Inexplicably, Itadori laughs. It’s a bright sound, brimming with warmth. “You’re the worrying kind, aren’t you, Nanamin?” “I’m no such—Nanamin? What in the world—” “I like you,” Itadori declares shamelessly. “And Nanami-san is so formal. Nanamin’s much nicer!” “I will slap you,” Kento threatens, but it’s toothless at best, and the way Itadori’s grin widens, he knows it all too well.
List of questions here.

Fic Writer Tag
Tagged by @hypnotisedfireflies. Thank you, lovely! Always an honor to have you read my work. ❤️
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
13 right now
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
119,911
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now, pretty much TLOU and Fringe
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Of Artists and Architects - TLOU
The Alphabet (Peter & Olivia’s Version) - Fringe
Peter & Etta’s Excellent Adventure - Fringe
Cracks in Your Mask - TLOU
To the Moon & To Saturn - Fringe
5. Do you respond to comments?
Always! I might be slow, but I see and respond to all of them because I appreciate every single one.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Fading and I’m in the trees, I’m in the breeze both end on dark, sad notes, so one of those.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This is a cop-out, but most of my Polivia stuff. The Peter & Etta fic above, or most of what’s in my anthology. Etta’s Sunrise and as long as you love me so are also both incredibly tooth-rottingly sweet. It’s 90% fluff because I think they went through too much shit to not have happy moments. But also…I did write a Tessjoel wedding in Bone of My Bone, which was pretty happy.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
So far, not since I was 17 and posted the most godawful Castle fic on FF.net that got roasted on a hate blog. (It deserved it, but that shit hurted.) In my adult writing ventures? Never.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes, but it’s mostly very vanilla. (I am incredibly boring and safe, I know.)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not my thing, and I doubt I ever will.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope. Thank goodness!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but it would be an honor!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet. I’m such a lone wolf. I’d have to find someone I can gel with creatively to make it happen.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Don’t ask me that because I’ve gone through so many stages. Right now, Tessjoel and Polivia are the ones I’m into for different reasons. Tessjoel is fun because they lend themselves so well to different genres and AUs. Polivia is pure soulmatism and love with soul crushing angst at the best of times.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
A&A is the only WIP that I’ve got. I’d like to think I can finish it, but sometimes I wonder if I’m going to give up before I do.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I get easily discouraged, but I keep coming back
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I get easily discouraged
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
If I had friends that I talked to enough to help me and I found a good place to incorporate it, I would do it. I admire people who take the time to include other languages.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Castle, like a billion years ago
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
My confidence in my writing fluctuates too much to answer this properly. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to look at my work and definitively say “I’m super proud of this.” I’m getting there. But right now, I can’t say there’s one that’s my favorite.

This is probably gonna come across really whiny and entitled, but I can't just keep sitting with it so I'm gonna say it anyway:
I am tired of getting little to no recognition as a writer.
Now I'm not sitting here demanding everyone write a 2,000 word essay on why they love my writing, that's ridiculous and I'm aware of it!
But I'm taking, like, my newest fic? 1 comment, 6 kudos, 150+ views.
Now, some of those views are likely me refreshing my own fic. And some are either rereads or the 6 people that kudosed reading the second chapter, so I'm gonna be generous and say that 50 people all in all have read my fic, either just the first chapter or both of them.
That's either 44 or 43 people that gave 0 feedback (my one comment is anonymous, so I don't know if they guest kudos or not, if they did, 44, if they didn't, 43.)
Obviously no fic is gonna be to everyone's taste (although I very clearly tag anything important so I doubt there were too many "Oooh didn't know this was X type of fic, goodbye!" readers) but for 43/44 people to read and leave nothing is just... Really discouraging.
And that's just my latest fic!
The last few I've put out have gotten very little engagement outside of hits.
And obviously, yes, I should (& do!) write for myself but it's a little hard to convince myself that my words are worth the time I put into making them when... No one else seems to give a shit.
I'm gonna finish my latest fic, because I want it finished and not hanging over my head. But there's a list of oneshots on my WIP list that are next on my to do list and I'm not gonna lie, the motivation to do any of them is... Low.
Anyway, there's my whiny and vaguely entitled sounding post. Y'all are free to roast me about it if you really feel the need.

It’s literally been 3-4 years since I last attempted to draw this asshole. that art improvement glow-up tho
It’s amazing how I used to be so enthralled with him, and all it took was browsing an ‘anti-cullen’ tag/page on a blog to actually open my fuckin eyeballs. It’s crazy.
Anyway I wanted to try and sketch out Cullen as less of a ‘pretty-boy’ and more gaunt in the face and such since... you know... in Inquisition he’s going thru lyrium withdrawal. Not doin’ all that great.
I’m hoping the painted version shows it better, but I kinda like how this turned out either way 8)

genuinely i think people forget that long fics don’t just spawn magically out of thin air and that the people who write them put a lot of fucking work into them. for every perfect polished finished 200k fic that’s finished, there’s a ton of wips that’d get there and be just as good if only the author didn’t give up halfway through posting bc everyone only talks about updates and how they hate wips and unfinished things and slow update schedules. it’s like “ao3 reader culture” is actually just shitting on people who don’t provide Enough content Fast Enough and it sucks????
i have honestly seen i think one (1) positivity post about longfics and wips, and countless “the people who write the 100k+ fics get all the love but here’s to the tiny oneshot writers too!” positivity posts, and i mean don’t get me twisted, people who don’t write longfic also deserve encouragement, but frankly i have no idea where anyone has the idea that longfic is more popular than shortfic. like you know it’s not an unpopular opinion that “short fics are just easier to digest and less time-consuming so i read them more” if every damn comment in the chain is literally saying that, right?
and i have seen so many posts about the aGoNy of reading a 200k+ fic only to realize it’s unfinished and hasn’t updated in months boohooooo!!! like... okay and that author provided you TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND FUCKING WORDS of content FOR FREE just out of LOVE for something, and just bc they didn’t Finish for whatever reason (life circumstances? poor health? lost interest? who knows!) they deserve to be shat on for it instead???? seriously????
as someone who finds the most fun in coming up with long stories and writing big plots, sometimes i just get so discouraged by the way fandoms act abt longfic. at least in my experience, my oneshots always do better, just bc more people want to read something 10k words than 200k. and of course i’m not entitled to readers, but at the same time, it feels Bad that not only does work that took less time/effort get more attention, but also the popular prevailing attitudes about unfinished long wips are so thoughtless.
it’s just so entitled. and rude. i wish people would stop acting like that.

Running An Art Shop With Minimal Crying 101
Hey y’all, not sure what compelled me to write this Now but I wanted to put together a list of helpful ‘good business practice’ tips for artists who want to start selling commissions on FR and want to build up a good reputation and make bank. I’m not sure if I’d feel comfortable throwing this on the forums personally so here you go, y’all have to look at my stupidly long possibly helpful brutally honest post cuz I don’t know where else to put this.
I’ve been doing art on FR since I was a young teenager in 2015 and through that time I’ve definitely learned some lessons the hard way. I’ve taken on more than I could handle, I’ve let commissions rot for months because I got overwhelmed… you know what I mean. Here’s some of what I’ve learned over the years that’s helped me run a consistently successful art shop for well over a year now.
I don’t have a tumblr and I don’t know how to add a ‘read more’ to a submission, so happy scrolling <3 I apologize for causing some people a very minor inconvenience
-Do not take prepayment for either more than three commissions at a time, or more than the number of commissions you think you can finish within a month or two, whichever is smaller. This is especially true if you’re like me and you have ADHD. Trust me, the more commissions people have already paid for you have piled up in your to-do list, even if they’d only take you 20 minutes each, you will get more overwhelmed and discouraged and people will wonder why it’s taking you so long. Even if you aren’t getting concerned PMs, a lot of people are just too anxious or polite to ask for updates. (On the flipside, if you commissioned someone and haven’t gotten any word/updates in a while, you’re not in the wrong to ask how things are going and when you can expect an update.)
-Full payment upfront is something I definitely recommend for smaller pieces (headshots, sketches, etc) you can finish in one sitting. However- if you’re doing a ref sheet, a rendered fullbody, etc, and you’ll be spending multiple sessions on the piece and getting feedback for it multiple times- split it up, take half upfront and half either after the sketch is approved, or before you send them the final unwatermarked version. I’ve done dozens of commissions like this and never had a problem, personally. There’s a low chance of a customer backing out on you if you’ve already started and sent WIPs because, y’know, sunk cost, and on the other hand it is reassuring to customers (especially if your shop is new) that if you drop off the map, they paid $20 upfront and got at least a sketch, instead of paying $40 upfront for an unfinished piece.
-In the same vein: if you’re doing a large piece like a rendered fullbody, ref sheet, etc, more communication is always better than less! I always stay on the safe side here. Some people will tell you they just want you to go apeshit and do whatever you think will look cool, other people might have much more specific ideas of what they want and how closely your artwork needs to match the image of their character in their head. Send them the sketch and ask them if they want any changes. Send them the lineart and ask if it looks good. If you’re working on a time-consuming painting that will take you weeks to finish, please please please, communicate! Send updates! Your customers will feel a lot less anxious about how long you’re taking if you keep them posted (plus this is just a personal thing but I love seeing peoples’ artistic process, it sparks joy!!)
-If, once again, you’re like me and stuff like painted fullbodies take you so much longer than other commission types- the worst thing you can do is underprice. Let’s say a detailed, shaded dragon fullbody takes you, for instance, 8 hours, maybe longer because you get burned out and can’t finish it in just one sitting, but you don’t think people will buy an $80/8kg fullbody. Do not lower the price you think your art is worth. If fullbodies take you really long compared to other art, or you get unmotivated, just… don’t offer painted fullbodies, or scenes with multiple characters, or whatever. If there’s a form of art you’re capable of creating but it’s faster, more fun, and gets you more money to do smaller things, just do more smaller commissions instead of taking the big ones. This one was a lifesaver for me.
-Once again in the same vein: It is okay to say no. Just because you are physically/artistically capable of drawing a detailed scene of multiple dragons with complex apparel, doesn’t mean you won’t get burnt out or bored. For me, larger pieces take exponentially longer because I just get bored and don’t want to work on them anymore. If someone asks if you can draw something that will require so much of your personal time and effort to go into a single piece, just say no. Sometimes I’ll say yes to some big commissions because I think the character is cool and inspiring and I want to draw them; otherwise, I will admit, I’ve said no to big commissions because I personally found the character boring as hell (though I wouldn’t phrase it that way). And that’s ok!
-If you are going to be really busy in the near future, stop taking commissions. You have finals? Don’t say “sorry if things take forever, I have finals”… just don’t take the commissions while you’re busy. If you have too much on your plate, commissions will just stress you out more, and nobody likes to draw motivated by stress. There’s nothing wrong with temporarily pausing your art shop. Put your mental health first. And if you aren’t able to get commissions done on a regular basis because of mental health, or because you don’t give enough of a shit about other peoples’ characters: don’t do commissions. I don’t mean this in a bad way; I’ve been in that spot before and it’ll just cause more stress and guilt than it’s worth.
-NO PARAGRAPHS. That sounds hypocritical of me writing this lol but do not put long paragraphs in your art shop, ever. I promise nobody will read it. Put your rules, and any other information, in bullet points that are one or two lines. Keep your rules clear, simple, unambiguous and short, or everyone will ignore it and I won’t blame them. Put titles and subtitles wherever you can. If you have a block of text longer than probably five lines, it will be ignored by most people. I have decided not to buy art from people because I didn’t want to have to dig through blocks of text for information.
….so yeah I think that’s about all I can think of at the moment. time to sit back and get yelled at for not being able to shut the fuck up and get to the point lol, hope you (yes you) have a great day c:

WIP Sunday!
Got a few ideas here to share for sure! @jackiesarch @starsandskies and @fadedjacket were all kind enough to tag me throughout the week (thank you all! <3) and usually if Fridays aren’t able to work, Sundays definitely do.
Tagging: @cobb-vanthss @amistrio @hunnybadgerv @shallow-gravy @painterofhorizons @ma-sulevin @tommymillers @nightwingshero  @princess-underthemountain @chazz-anova @faithchel @consumedkings @vasiktomis @adelaidedrubman @strafethesesinners @aceghosts but no worries or obligation intended at all!
First, a little Trap fic, maybe? And maybe I’ll get this chapter done today too? *crosses fingers hard*
---
Now she’d messed around with a few things when she was younger. Played some pranks, knew her way around a few locks, and tried making a cherry bomb or two when one of her friends wanted to piss off an asshole that had been tormenting them, but hadn’t fully committed to dabbling in it more than that. Especially since the last thing she needed her mom to find at random on her after coming home was a set of improvised explosives.
But this wasn’t exactly the same situation, and the improvised explosives that Hurk affectionately dubbed ‘party favors’ had a hell of a lot more bang to them than any cherry bomb she’d put her hands on. Enough to throw Hana down to the bed of the truck she was standing in after pitching one towards a nearby billboard, and couldn’t stop cackling the minute she caught what was left of it.
So she might’ve made a mental note to get together with him and Sharky later on to make a few more of these, because at this rate it wasn’t just about getting their people home safe and doing the Resistance a solid.
She could have fun with this. A hell of a lot of fun, she decided as she gave the charred remains of John’s message the finger on the way out.
And two silos, and one ruined roadblock later, they were all feeling pretty good about the hell they were raising. Took turns behind the wheel and with Gina - with Hurk’s enthusiastic blessing, of course - and Hana almost held her breath until the call finally came through. That the other tanker had reached Fall’s End safely, and once they’d shaken the lats few cultists that were tailing them, headed on home.
But that was it.
The only call that she received, even after managing to score a bullseye shot at another one of John’s billboards, tagging him right in the middle of his smarmy face.
---
And how about some more Hana/Sharky nonsense too? Since this idea’s coming along pretty well, it’s just a matter of getting these two to hush up for a bit so I can have a chance to actually finish it. (not that I’m discouraging them /at all/ here)
---
“You two really mean a lot to each other, huh? It’s nice.” She took one look at the dwindling cigarette in her hand and held it out to him.
“Yeah, we give each other shit, and I might’ve told him to take a ride to hell on a lubed up slip n’ slide after he said he liked having me around just to have skeeters divebomb me instead of him, but…there’s nothing mean behind it, you know?”
She nodded. “Yeah, I get it.”
“He’s my bro. Don’t got anyone else like him around, though you’re getting pretty close, so…” She saw his adam’s apple bob as he swallowed, and quickly took the cigarette after that. “How about you, H? You got any family outside of here?”
“No.”
The answer slipped out so easily it left her stunned for a second. In fact, the last time she’d even gotten into family history had been back with Whitehorse, and even then he’d been able to read her discomfort from a mile away.
But here as she looked over at Sharky, it didn’t seem like such a bad thing to consider.
“I…there were a couple of people that counted for a while, but no. No huge family, no white picket fence, all of that jazz. Just me, my mom, and one of the most boring sedans on earth. Cruising from city to city seeing which one would be the one to work for us.”
She cracked a smile as she remembered the chips in its paint. The fabric of the seats, the sound of the radio and her mother flipping through stations until music started filtering through the static. How she’d try singing along to it while holding the map in front of her, unsure whether to keep her legs folded under her, or to stretch them out.
“I loved that old piece of junk with all of my heart, even when it kept on trying to die on us, and the day we finally had to sell it off, I was inconsolable for a week. Cried and fussed and didn’t even want to look at anything else, because that was-I think that was the closest thing to a home that we had, if that makes any sense.”
“Let’s see.” Sharky raised his fingers and started ticking them off. “You got four walls and a set of doors and windows. Keeps you warm when it’s cold, and cold when it’s hot, and you can hide and store shit whenever you want,” he pointed out, grinning at her. “Plus, it’s on wheels, which is pretty badass when you wanna go somewhere and ain’t got much else, and a winnie’s as good a home as any other, so I’d say that all counts.“
He held out the cigarette to her. Hadn’t even used it after taking it, and it took a few seconds for that to sink in as she looked at him.
But she returned the smile. Tilted her head towards him as she took the cigarette back, and raised an eyebrow. “You really think so?”
“I know so, H. Think I spent more Sundays down in my old car than any of the Peggies did with Broseph, and we’d be in it in now if I hadn’t packed it full of C4 and launched it at some Angels.” He sighed. “Might’ve shed more than a tear or two once the smoke cleared and the fire really started, but if I had to pick a way to send it off, that’s a top fucking choice right there.”
“Really? That’s - that’s how it went?”
Sharky whistled as his arm swung down in an arc, only to spread both of his hands out after.
A giggle burst out of her. Had her clapping a hand to her mouth as she visualized it, and almost couldn’t stop.
“…You know what? I really can’t argue with that.”

For the ask game, would you please answer questions numbered 2, 8, 14 (all of your titles have such cool names), 18 (I hope Abditory isn't one of them as that story rocks), 21, 24, 29, 30, 33, 34, 44, 51, 62, 76, 82, 85, 88, 90, and 98.
Sorry for asking so many, but I love your work! Entombed gave me so many feels! I found your stories because author Breanie said to read them in her author's notes. Best rec ever! Thank you for answering.
Wow, that is a lot of asks! Thank you so much for wanting to know so much about little ole me. I think I hit them all in this and my apologies if I missed one. Let me know if I missed one. @breaniebree is awesome and my writing BFF. She is amazing, and I love her.
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
So, I’ve written for The X-Files, Supernatural, and Harry Potter. I currently only write for Harry Potter. I would say Harry Potter has always been the most fun.
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?
Random shit. Brontide came to me because I was browsing the HPFanfiction subreddit looking for a story suggestion and someone asked for a story where Harry was addicted to Felix. Only one unfinished dimensional time travel story was listed. It idea sparked me to write my own version. Entombed came to me because I was rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Buffy was buried alive. I knew I wanted to bury Ginny alive. As I stated in the author’s notes of last Kalopsia chapter, I drew inspiration from the Djinn storyline in Supernatural. I write about things I know, too. I have young kids at home so I like writing the Potter children as young because I can mimic their mannerisms in my writing. I’ve even asked my kids to say certain words to emulate their speech pattern in my writing if I’m writing that age group.
14) How did you come up with the title for the XXX? You can ask about multiple stories.
I HATE coming up with titles. My newest trend has been to literally Google “unique words”. There are a ton of Pinterest accounts who make fancy word and definition pictures. I scroll through all these little unique words and pick out ones I think fit a story. Sometimes I Google a unique word for BLANK and see if I can get a cool version of that name. @breaniebree actually helped me with Entombed.
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
Sadly, I would put Abditory in this category. Never say never though. I think about it from time to time. Honestly, I abandoned it due to such a negative response I was receiving and the lack of positive response. I became discouraged. It wasn’t even negative response due to my writing, it was literally a bunch of “why would you waste your time writing a story about the biggest plot hole in the books? JKR butchered the whole SK storyline and it’s unbearable to read.” So, basically, my reviews and PMs were filled with JKR hate over that plot point in the books. They heavily outweighed the positive reviews I received. Honestly, I think that’s why a bulk of stories get abandoned - lack of positive reviews or enthusiasm for a story. If I didn’t get so many great reviews for my stories, I don’t know if I’d be able to finish them or continuing writing new ones. Fanfiction is free, (as it should be) but it’s a lot of time and hard work. A little appreciation goes a LONG way. So, my advice, review everything you love reading and encourage writers to keep writing. I always say in my authors notes that reviews make me want to write and inspire me. That’s the truth. The moment I stop getting reviews will probably be the time I take a writing break again.
21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?
@breaniebree. I mean she’s dedicated years to a single story with so many plot lines and characters that I’m amazed she did it. She’s a fantastic writer, and I definitely consider her my writing BFF. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from her and enjoy talking about writing with her so much. I’m so glad we’ve become friends.
24) How do you feel about writing smutty scenes?
Horrified. Anytime I get a little steamy in my stories, it goes immediately to @breaniebree who usually adds way too much smut and then I cut it down to still be somewhat PG-13 in order to appeal to a wider audience.
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?
I feel like Kalopsia isn’t getting as much love as my other stories. I’m way behind in my normal review count per chapter. I wonder if it’s just the confusing storyline or if it’s just not as fun to read? But I was definitely worried it wouldn’t get the love I thought it deserved when I started writing it and it’s lived up to that expectation.
30) In contrast to 29, is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?
Cronus Rising. People still recommend it occasionally and I still get random reviews. I’m like, “why????” Its horribly written and a stupid plot line. I literally was getting back into writing after not writing for a good five years, so it’s abysmal. I’ve often wanted to rage delete it.
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?
When someone tells me I should write an original novel and they’d buy the hell out of it. I do have some original novel ideas floating around (one I’ve been writing since I was like 15), but crippling fear of rejection from publishers have stopped me from ever actually finish an original novel.
34) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?
I got some criticism in Brontide for having drama for drama’s sake with no real purpose or goal for said drama. I felt my drama served a purpose, drove the story along, and I add a lot of fluffy and cute family moments. I feel like in real life, when you to your loved one is going through sometime, it feels like nonstop drama and bad news and like a dark cloud just follows you. I wanted to emulate that in real life. So Harry’s POV was often drab because HE was the one going through something horrific and it was all doom and gloom for him.
44) What is the last line you wrote?
“You never think I listen to your ramblings, but it’s kind of hard to block out, mate.”
51) From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
Um... I’d say a 3. I think I have some good and unique plots for stories but sometimes I struggle on how to execute those on paper effectively. I struggle with descriptions, action, and showing rather than telling. But I do think I’m good at dialogue and capturing a character’s personality. So, 3.
62) Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
A lot! I have a Teddy/Victoire stalker story in the works that I’m excited about. I have (this is going to sound weird) but an outsider rom-com planned where Ron/Hermione breakup right before Hinny’s wedding and Hinny struggles to get them back together before the big day. I have a Potter family vacation fluff/comedy story planned. I have a game night one-shot planned. I have a short story about Luna’s wedding. So many that I want to write and don’t know which one to write first!!
76) Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
I’d say no. I’ve always tried to write my ideas down. Some I’ve never finished because inspiration peters off and some I plan on finishing once my newest big project is done.
82) Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
Harry goes through some shit, and Ginny is his soulmate.
85) Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
I don’t understand why people don’t ship Harry/Ginny more. I don’t understand the Harry/Daphne obsessions (like just why???) or the Harry/Hermione ship at all. I always see people asking for story recommendation and they specific say “no Harry/Ginny”. They are literally perfect for one another and they are soulmates.
88) If you could ask one other fanfic author three questions about their writing, writing process, or works, what would they be and who would you ask?
@breaniebree .
1.) How do you organize all your charts? Send me the ALL the charts. Because I don’t understand how you keep everything straight!
2.) How do you write so much? You’re like a little writing machine in a cute little package.
3.) Where do all the ideas come from? In a dream? Just thinking? Driving? Do you write everything out in your head like meeee? Can I have some of your writing mojo?
90) How do you process and deal with negative reviews?
I obsess over them. I analyze them. I may get bummed out and not write for a few days. If you don’t like what I write, then don’t read or review. It’s a hobby. I do this for free. I’m not asking you to critique me. Give me a nice review or ask me a question, but don’t be cruel or mean because you can hide behind a keyboard and be a bully to make yourself feel superior.
98) If you had to give up either snacks and drinks during writing sessions, or music, which would you find more difficult to say goodbye to and why?
Music. I grew up with three older brothers. My house was always rowdy and loud and obnoxious. I need it to be loud. I can’t stand the silence or focus when it’s silent. I need music to help me think and write. When I’m home alone, I always turn on the TV or music, because I can’t stand when it’s silent. I think I’d go insane.

fic writer tag game
tagged by: @hughstheforcelou
note: just as a disclaimer, this game technically only asked about ao3 fics. i do use ao3, but the majority of my fics are housed on my wattpad accounts, so i included them as well because my ao3 is like,,,either fics crossposted from my wp or badly written smut so it’s not exactly a very full picture of my work or me as a fanfic writer lol. so if i tag you in this and you wanna do it, you can totally ignore the wp stuff and just answer the questions for ao3 (or whatever platform you use idk i didn’t make this)
tagging: @ninazenkis @alinastarkhov @aaudace @s-s-southsideserpentine @richitozier @claryxjackson @luucypevensie
how many works do you have on ao3?
6 works on ao3
11 works on wattpad (3 of those are part of the ao3 fic count)
what’s your total ao3 word count?
ao3 is 70, 391
wp i have no clue, but probably at least 200k??? idk i can’t do math
how many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
on ao3, its 3: outer banks, riverdale, and harry potter
on wp, 8: the ones listed above, shadow and bone, teen wolf, stranger things, twilight, and that ‘70s show
what are your top five fics by kudos?
ao3 fics, it’s:
good vibrations, 47 (nsfw, minors dni)
a touch of heaven, 30 (nsfw, minors dni)
you and me, 25 (riverdale, crossover fic)
blue moon, 21 (harry potter, neville x oc)
bittersweet, 18 (riverdale, sweet pea x oc)
and wp, i think votes are like the kudos of wp? but you can vote for individual chapters, so it’s not really a direct correlation??? but we got:
both of us, 71.8k (teen wolf, stiles x oc)
holding out for a hero, 34.4k (teen wolf, stiles x oc)
bleeding out, 21.3k (teen wolf, oc fic)
blue moon, 2.7k (harry potter, neville x oc)
gasoline, 740 (stranger things, steve x oc)
do you respond to comments? why or why not?
it depends! on ao3 i always do. on wattpad, it really depends on the story, like if i’m actively working on it and updating it, yes. if it’s my discontinued teen wolf series, it gets too many for me to keep up with and i probably won’t reply unless the person’s being an absolute bitch or just really fucking offensive.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
i haven’t written anything far enough to get an angsty ending, but as of right now in my plans ... probably my fear street fic because as of right now, it ends with my oc’s love interest dying right when they’re reconnecting.
do you write crossovers? if so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
with different fandoms? no, i’m not big brained enough for that. with friends, i’ve written exactly one crossover which was my ao3 fic you and me which was like a crossover between mine and @alinastarkhov’s riverdale ocs!
have you ever received hate on a fic?
more than i can count :)
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
...yes. i did two college au’s for my riverdale oc, neither of them are that good, but one’s halloween themed, so there’s that i guess.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
literally more times that i can count, which is sad lmao. really blows my mind because they always go for the teen wolf series that i started when i was 15 and could barely structure a sentence.
have you ever had a fic translated?
i get offers, but i get uncomfy thinking about my fic being somewhere else just because of how often i’ve had shit stolen from me.
what’s your all-time favorite ship?
like in other media? i have too many to count but as of right now, malina, kanej, jackie/hyde, and i literally cannot think of another couple in any other piece of media i’ve watched ever, this is a mess.
what’s a wip that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
bittersweet, probably. i really adore brooke and everything i’ve created, but riverdale gives me migraines and it doesn’t really do that well because no ones really reading riverdale fics anymore (understandable but it’s def discouraging lol)
what are your writing strengths? what are your writing weaknesses?
i think i do banter/comedy pretty well? i had someone tell me my comedic timing in my fic blue moon was spot on, so i think i definitely handle lighter scenes well. weaknesses include actually writing.
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
it really really depends because like,,,i only know english so i feel like it always comes off as weird and incorrect so i try to avoid it.
what was the first fandom you’ve written for?
twilight and one direction. we don’t need to talk about it.
what’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
as of right now, it’s cruel summer because i just really love leah. i also really enjoy my harry potter fic, blue moon!

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged my @elialys. Thank you, lovely!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
11!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
As of now, I have posted 77,959 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Fringe and TLOU
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Of Artists and Architects—TLOU (my baby!)
The Alphabet (Peter & Olivia’s Version)—Fringe
Peter & Etta’s Excellent Adventure—Fringe
To the Moon & To Saturn—Fringe
Cracks in Your Mask—TLOU
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Of course, I do! I’m usually slow because I feel like I say the same thing over and over and I get busy. But yes, I read and eventually respond to each one.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
That would be Fading, because it’s just Tess dying.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think Etta’s Sunrise, but my Polivia anthology has so much fluff!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Years ago when I was fresh out of high school and writing my first fics, yes. I had a Castle fic get posted and mocked on a fic flaming blog. It…wasn’t fun. But the fic was genuinely horrible. Nowadays, no. I’ve not had a single negative said to me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Ohhhhh yes I do! It’s pretty vanilla in comparison to some of the other stuff out there, at least for my Tessjoel stuff (Polivia are proudly vanilla) and I tend to lean on euphemisms instead of actual words. (I, a married adult, am unfortunately a child when it comes to actually writing sex words.) Overall, I try to keep it very realistic and tasteful.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not interested even a little bit. I might consider it if I wrote fic for something like Marvel or DC, or if I wrote for fandoms that naturally matched up.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Lmaoooo no. I’m not that good.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I wish! I would be honored if someone who was a native speaker of another language wanted to translate my work.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nah. Honestly, I don’t work well with others. I’d have to be super close to the other writer and know I’m on the same page.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
From a romance perspective, Polivia. They are on that soulmate shit and I can comfortably write my super fluffy stuff. There are so many moments we missed to fill in, but also some devastating things to explore. From a fun perspective…Tessjoel. The possibilities with them are endless because there is so much open to the canon and they’re also so adaptable for AUs.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I’m really wondering if I’m gonna finish my Polivia alphabet fic. I’ve been stuck on K for months! But also Of Artists and Architects is a huge undertaking, and I’m just wondering if I’m gonna get discouraged enough to quit again.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think—hope—my characters feel very human. I also know I’m good at capturing the mundane and every day.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Description and action. I don’t weave vivid worlds like some writers can, and I am terrified of super action-packed intense scenes. I just don’t know I could do it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
If I did, I would be consulting a native speaker of that language. One, to understand their culture better (because it stands to reason the character would be of that origin) but also to make sure I have my words correct.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Castle, way back in the day!
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Declining to answer this one on grounds of a case of imposter syndrome today.

thank you for the post about new and insecure writers i needed it too! do you get discouraged easily and if so what discourages you the most? do you compare yourself to other writers?
It is a great post, I am happy it helped you❤❤❤
I get discouraged quite easily, yes!
I do not compare myself to other creators here because I am sincerely happy to see people here create, the fics and art and text edits and Pictagram edits and moodboards, all of those things are AMAZING and it makes my heart full to see every single person here create and thrive. And of course some are better, some are more popular, that is absolutely natural and I don't write fics to win a Pulitzer price. Just as I don't compare my writing to Salinger, I wouldn't compare myself to any other writer, fandom or not.
It's not even the number of notes that would discourage me... of course it feels great when a fic is popular and liked, but it's still a number. I hate numbers defining our talent/beauty/worth.
What truly and really discourages me is.. ah, how do I put this. I LOVE writing, very much so. But if I only loved writing, I wouldn't care to share my fics. Which means I also like sharing my creations with you guys, even though truly I do get insecure about my fics (which is normal). And so it happens that I share a WIP Wednesday or Sunday six or whatever, a piece of upcoming fic, and someone says something like "I cannot wait for this" and that is so very encouraging! It makes me want to finish the fic, it increases my belief in myself... and then I post the fic and those people never react to the fic. Never. And I just go like "shit, they were excited, what happened? Did they hate it so much they never reacted? Or they weren't in fact interested in reading it but... why bother with stating that they are, then?"... and that is not something I blame anyone for, because it's something that dicourages ME and me only. That is my problem and I would never, like, unfollow the person or anything, as I said so many times, I love you all so much. But yes, I do get discouraged by this kind of thing because as much as I can ignore number of notes, your personal opinions and reactions (and they don't have to be compliments!! Please share your criticism with me), those make me want to be part of this site (it's not a secret that I hated Tumblr in the beginning:D)
Thank you and I hope you will always feel encouraged enough to share art with us, whoever you are❤

Name: Illegible or Illegiblewords lately. I’ve switched it in the past a few times.
Fandoms: I’ve been in Final Fantasy XIV for the past couple of years now. Passively I might be in Pathologic fandom and Dragon Age fandom? Maybe others too on and off. I was in comic fandoms for a long time but honestly that spiraled into a hot mess of epic proportions so I’ve mostly peaced out of there. Still love stories, characters, and buddies from there though.
Most Popular Oneshot: Ironically it’s Ideation for Bladerunner 2049 haha. I did exactly one fic there right after seeing the movie and didn’t go back, but I thought it was very good and I had a specific story I wanted to tell. It’s one of my most popular fics, and given it’s gen too I’m actually kind of happy about that.
Most Popular Multichapter: The Immortal Wound for FFXIV fandom! I had only just started writing for the fandom, and the series leading up to this fic was my first time writing NPC shipping in FFXIV. I was seriously, SERIOUSLY nervous at first! I wrote the first fic, Posturing, as a personal challenge to do an ambiguous protagonist/NPC since I saw other people doing that and wanted to see if I could pull it off. Posted it at around 4 in the morning then deleted within a few minutes out of anxiety lol. A week went by before I read it again, realized I still liked it, and put it back up for good. That being well-received helped encourage me to keep trying, and by The Immortal Wound it was getting solid attention. The experience really meant a lot to me!
Actual Worst Part of Writing: Probably chapter maps within the outlining process for me. It’s needed for how I approach things, but shit is anxiety-inducing and stressful af lol. I basically plan each event out in high detail before actually writing the fic, so when the time comes for me to legit write I’m more or less following a plan I can trust. Making that plan is the tough part.
How Do You Choose Your Titles: Often titles are the last things I figure out before starting the fic itself. I know I like punchy stuff if I can manage. Sometimes it’ll be one word, sometimes it’ll be a quote or song lyric, sometimes it’ll be a saying, sometimes it’ll be a phrase that feels fitting. I go fast and loose usually, and tbh I’ve tried to tell myself not to overthink it too hard. I do try title related works in ways that have some thematic link when I can.
Do You Outline: HahahahahaHAHAHAHAhaha yeah. Straight up my outlines are eldritch terrors for their detail, length, and complexity. I don’t mean that as a brag at all, seriously--I tend to get frozen a bit if I don’t have an outline by and large because it’s hard for me to keep track of what’s in my head and plan accordingly. Just end up with too many moving parts + revision and pacing get wonky otherwise.
Depending on the project I might have sections tied to setting, characters, magic systems, religions, etc. at the top. Fanfic this is less likely but does crop up sometimes.
To give an example of the first bullet of the first chapter of an ongoing fic:
Post-Shinryu, the Warrior of Light lingers in the Royal Menagerie alone at his own insistence to search for the Eye of Nidhogg. In the process he remembers the fight against Zenos and Shinryu. Note he was overcome by an almost feral rage at Zenos’ assumption that he was the target of anything resembling lust. Those attentions (“bite down upon my jugular”) belong to another, but note similarities of two pale-eyed, long-haired blondes. Seeing Shinryu, the Warrior had no idea whether Lahabrea survived within. The fusion was horrifying to see and as he fought he didn’t hold back because besides obvious dangers, he was also ready to mercy kill if needed. Also note Warrior wanted to intervene against Thordan for Lahabrea but wasn’t fast enough, questions a little privately how far he’d have gone against him. It might not have mattered even if he’d managed since he knows Lahabrea was going crazy and unable to listen. Locating and examining the Eye, he recognizes how drained it is. Certainly not enough to threaten him when dealing with post-battle exhaustion. So he reaches inside with his own aether, relentless in pushing aside every foreign element—Nidhogg, Thordan, the corrupted Rhalgr, the places Zenos caged them all under his own will. Zodiark’s tempering is what helps him ultimately find Lahabrea, who is barely alive. Zodiark’s tempering has preserved what it could but has a much more tenuous grip in consequence. When the Warrior finds him Lahabrea isn’t even aware, functionally unconscious. The tempering flares against him defensively and this time the Warrior focuses on it. This is all that has allowed Lahabrea to stay alive. He could force himself closer but there is no vessel. Besides, the process of separating a fragile soul so deficient in aether is too great a risk. So he keeps the Eye.
It’s not the only bullet of comparable size for that chapter. The overall piece has at least 40 total chapters, but probably more.
Ideas I Probably Won’t Get Around To, But Wouldn’t It Be Nice: Tbh probably some of the earlier WIPs I have that aren’t finished already. Not just FFXIV (Dead Language, With Good Intentions) but other fandoms. I could end up circling back in the future one day but who knows.
Callouts @ Me: “NO MORE WIPS HOLY SHIT YOU HAVE OVER 20″, “RELEARN HOW TO DO DRABBLES”, “GET UR PRESENTS DONE”, “REVIEW OTHERS MORE THE STAGE FRIGHT IS RIDICULOUS”.
Best Writing Traits: I try to write any character as the hero of their own story/with the capacity to be someone’s favorite. I do my research and prioritize telling a good story first and foremost. I can change my writing style according to need and am good at capturing the cadence and word choices of different characters.
Spicy Tangential Opinion: If no transaction has been made (esp. monetary), no one owes you shit online. Not reviews, not hits, not praise, not agreement, not content of any sort. It sucks to feel like you’re creating to a void. It sucks to be passionately in love with a rarepair when other ships are drowning in art and stories.
People still don’t owe you.
If you don’t like someone else’s content, create something exploring what you do like... or even why you don’t like that content. Tell a story. Create art. Make photosets and playlists and analyses. If it is not a literal crime (as opposed to portraying fictional crime), don’t discourage other creators no matter how awful you might find their stuff. Lend your own voice to an alternative as convincingly as you can. And if that doesn’t persuade others, you need to keep honing your own skills.
If you want more of something to exist, spread inspiration. Again this can be in storytelling, art, photosets, playlists, analysis, you name it. Give form to your passion. And if others disagree or don’t respond, keep working at it. This is a skill too, and it takes practice.
I’ve found it shows when work is created out of a sense of guilt, fear, or obligation. The quality is much lower and no one latches on to keep building in-turn. And IMO it is essential to build up rather than tearing down.
