Discussing thermoregulation:
"If you have a patient coming out of anesthesia and you need to keep them warm, you can just stick them in your tits- oh, sorry (only dude in the class)."

I keep trying to hype myself up about my presentation on an anaemia case for my clipath elective tomorrow but its not working
Me 1: I cant concentrate
Me 2: C’mon its blood! You love blood!
Me 1: No it’s not! It’s the absence of blood! Besides, this is just statistics about the absence of blood. I don’t see actual blood, just paper
Me 2: ....you signed up for this, do it.
Me 1: Ugh fine

Shit you hear at a vet clinic, #328
Me, burying my hands in the fur of the dog I needed to draw blood from: Oh my god she’s so fluffyyyy!!
The tech restraining her, desperately trying to spit out the hair: Yeah, I can TASTE that
…I love this job

-During the briefing for a calf handling practical
Lecturer: So what have you heard about crypto? Student A: It causes diarrhoea Student B: Two or three students get it every year Student C: It's bad and we're all going to die
@shityouhearatvetschool _____________________________________________________ Fun story. I ended up with crypto in my 3rd year. We also did a physical on a calf and came to the conclusion it had crypto. I got extremely ill the next day and didn't think much of it - except that I almost fainted during a surgery. Which is totally unlike me. That night I was either on the toilet or in bed for three days straight. The Saturday I had to rush home because my grandmother ended up in the hospital. I was so, so lucky my boyfriend had time off work/school because I wouldn't have survived without him. We got back home Saturday night and I was getting worse and the pain was crippling me. I couldn’t eat, we had to stop multiple times for bathroom breaks, and the pain was so bad I couldn’t move. So, we ended up at the ER.
We waited...and waited... About four hours later, him getting increasingly impatient, they call me out and tell me I'm not leaving that night. In one hour have a 1000 mL bag of fluids into me and another one well under way, blood drawn and samples taken. Due to my incredible pain they gave me strong painkillers and gravol. I’m still getting up to hobble to the washroom every 30-45 mins. They didn't initially think it was crypto and I was sent for an MRI the next day. It was inconclusive.
I ended being positive and got a call from Public Health and missing 2 weeks of school because I couldn’t eat for about 10 days. tl;dr - Ultimately, crypto fucked me up. Give your calves pain killers with the fluids! It's not even remotely a passive disease.

I really like your blog and ones similar to it. I was curious t there’s any other good ones related to biology, ecology, vet stuff, etc?
Sure. (these are in no particular order, just the order that I followed them) I follow a ton of other great blogs but I tried to keep the list to those that regularly post about the topics you mentioned. So the farming blogs and petcare blogs I follow didn’t get included. I can add those in if you’re interested.

2020 goals
Thank you @lizziedidvetschool for tagging me!
Rules: write 3 goals for 2020 (and why) then tag 10 blogs
1. Read more books. I really don’t read enough books, and the ones I do read are vet med themed. I want to get into a habit of reading at least 2 books per month. The regular, fun type.
2. Figure out what to do after school I’m leaving vet school in 1,5 months (😱) and I have literally no idea what to do with myself after coming back from my internship in Romania. I don’t feel qualified enough to work alone yet... But I have to make some decisions, and I have to make them SOON.
3. Work on my physical and mental health I want to start working out, eat more healthy things, and reduce the amount of meat I eat. I already don’t eat that much junk food, but I think I can do better than that. After talking to some friends, I also feel like I should talk to a specialist about my mental health. Taking part in the exchange program last year was the best thing that’s happened to me but coming back to the “regular life” is a bit harder than I expected.
I want to pass this on to: @sueanoi-the-vet, @iheartvmt, @justalittletryingpan vel @shityouhearatvetschool, @scandinavian-vet, @infinityandcyanide, @allvet, @mysterioususer, @loveofvetnursing, @yunowhatilike
