I'm rewatching some initial IB episodes and, if I ignore the fact that he's a monumental AH for a minute, Shivaay kind of reads as a romance repulsed aromantic. He seemed to like Tia well enough and was comfortable with the dynamic they had, and he genuinely never seemed to understand OmRu's confusion with that. It wasn't just that he didn't understand their idea of romance, I don't think he really understood romance in general. His feelings for Tia make sense to him but +

+ he doesn't really know how to explain them well to OmRu or really anyone in his family. I felt the aromantic vibes much more strongly in the Mallika track, because he clearly cared about Mallika very much and he valued their relationship, but he didn't care about her the way she wanted to be cared for and he couldn't really explain why to her also. Shivaay's view on relationships and the whole NKK thing kind of ruins this for me, but I still see it sort of. What do you think?

That's a really interesting read on his character and I think it is really quite plausible! Tia of course, was getting her romantic interests fulfilled elsewhere with D for Dobin (lmao I've missed calling him that!) but Shivaay seemed to be just fine with their relationship being the way it was (which allowed for some perfunctory intimacy, but nothing really passionate or meaningful as such.) And I completely agree with your assessment of the Mallika track as well! In the end, I'd say how much of it was just him being a poor, traumatised, emotionally constipated mess coz of his fucked up family, and how much can be attributed to him being on the aro spectrum is anyone's guess. 4 Lions doesn't seem very cognizant of the sexuality spectrum so I don't think they *intended* for his character to be anything other than a hetero asshole who is "transformed by TROO LOUVE", but I think this show and its characters have multitudes within them and can be interpreted by us viewers as we see fit!

Shivaay x Anika Imagine

He sat on their couch, going through the presentation with a cup of coffee in his hands. Her head was in his lap, her legs thrown over the arm rest.

Both were engrossed. He in his work, she in the book that she read yet each other's presence made it so much better. His hand stroked her head, occasionally taking a sip from the cup. Whenever he would stop, she would raise her hand and lightly caress his forehead with her fingertips, smoothening the tension.

It was quite late in the night when he was done with the work, looking down, only to find her dozed off, the book lying on her head.

He smiled, bending his head and dropping a soft kiss on her forehead. She, in response, smile and shifted a bit, wrapping her hands around his.

And it was this unconditional, careless smile that would blow him away everytime and make him do anything and everything.

Do you find it ironical that of the 3 brothers, Shivaay was the most sympathetic to his love interest? He takes active interest in Annika's past, helps her deal with her childhood trauma/nightmares, etc. Whereas, weirdly, Omkara was not interested in Gauri's past, eg. even in confession scene talked about his trauma due to his parents failed marriage ignoring hers, while Rudra has always been more or less self-absorbed (re: Bhavya)?

I don’t really find it ironic as such, because Shivaay always invests himself 200% in the people he cares about. Even with Tia and Mallika, he’s pretty keyed into their personalities and treats their neuroses seriously. (Except when they were being a little too much for his emotionally-stunted ass.) It makes sense that he would throw himself wholeheartedly into trying to help Anika, the same way he did Omkara when he found out about his addiction and sent him to rehab and kept an eye out for him ever since.

Omkara and Gauri never really talked about her past pre-DBO days, so..... Guess it never came up in the show. Waise bhi unko kahaan kuch development mila post-Bareilly?
