Adding to the Inconsistent Dececpticon Alt Mode Club for the ask: Megatron and Shockwave?

Okay for Megatron I was tempted to go for a Tank, but instead I wanted something that suggests parts of his background in industry, not a mining vehicle but something that gives the idea that Megs is more than brute force and violence, whilst also being sturdy as fuck....Also not a flyer, I feel like flying is something he shouldn't have until a lot later in his story. So I went for the M1132 Stryker Engineer Squad Vehicle with all the extras, transformation wise I'd take elements from different versions of Megatron, especially G2

As for Shockwave, it's honestly difficult because he's one of those bots I feel is most suited to keeping his Cybertronian alt mode and also has probably experimented on himself as much as any of his other subjects. Honestly despite his character being completely different I think Transformers Cybertron got it right with Shockblast: A triple changer with a satellite and ground based death ray tank modes.

Something like this....I guess the treads could unfurl to make the panels of the satellite.

TF Surge: Shockwave has the same body type as in Knightverse though with a different head, and he was also born one-eyed which is a normal variation. He transforms into a single-barreled siege howitzer, originally the turret was on his back but after losing his forearm in the war he sticks the turret on the stump. He's nonbinary, but only uses he/him. Shockwave's from a rich Tarnian family, he had two parents and perhaps multiple siblings (rich bots can afford to raise multiple sparklings, poor people can't). His parents also had siblings, it was a pretty large family. I'm not sure what exactly should happen to produce Shockwave's specific brand of fucked up, but his parents expected him to become famous or powerful, pushed him to do nothing but study whatever they'd approved him to study, and generally didn't let him just be a child.

As a teen he met Megatron in the library, he was there for science books and Megatron for poetry. They befriended each other and eventually started dating secretly from Shockwave's family, who would've lost their shits if they learned their child was with a *gasp* poor person. For the first time in his life Shockwave sort of opened up, but Megatron wasn't much better at emotions and neither of them got any help.

During the war, Shockwave also rises in the Decepticon alliance's ranks and becomes their head scientist. When the Arc and the Nemesis dissappears and everybody thinks either Megatron, Optimus, and The Matrix is lost, or the crews abandoned them to die. Shockwave slowly becomes convinced of the latter, angry at Megatron for leaving him to starve, angry at himself for loving and opening up to Megatron only for this to happen. Desperate to save the planet and their species, and to find a way to create life without The Matrix. Most of his war crimes propably happen in this timeframe.

He invents spark-splicing and creates Shockblast and Sixshot who are seen as abominations because of their unnatural origin, Shockblast doubly so because instead of growing from living metal he was cold-constructed (a new, foreign concept in Surge) into a copy of Shockwave's body. This treatment and Shockwave's poor parenting are why they're fucked up (Shockwave isn't abusive, but he's emotionally stunted/consticipated, doesn't know what good parenting is, expects them to do something useful at a young age though they are living in post-apocalypse, and obviously prefers Sixshot).

During those decades the war on Cybertron fizzles out, most Autobots and Decepticons also thinking they've been abandoned to die and deserting, defecting, or otherwise turning to Shockwave in desperation. Not necessarily a good idea, because he's also desperate and we know how he is about ethics and morality. He knows what he's doing is evil and knows how he propably will be remembered, but he doesn't care because the ends justify the means and his reputation does not matter, especially when the entire species' future is at the stake. He tries to crush the reminaining tiny Autobot resistance, and if i have other Decepticon warlords (Straxus? Megaempress?) controlling parts of cybertron he fights them too.

Then contact with the lost ships is regained, and when the bots on Earth return to Cybertron they make a truce. Shockwave is expected to surrender. The Matrix still exists. Everything he did was pointless. If Megatron is alive, Shockwave is also still mad at him. Irrationally about the crash leaving him thinking Megatron had abandoned him, and more understandably about the war ending and all the war crimes he committed being revealed pointless.

He's angry. He still has bots loyal to him. He still controls the whole Cybertron, or a large chunk of it. The war is not over.

His design sounds interesting, I always liked his Knightverse design

Explanation for the gun arm makes sense

Being forced to mature too fast will indeed fuck you up, I'm suspecting considering his complicated relationship with emotions in most media and how you suggested he is autistic in Surge that Shockers possibly faced ableism and emotional abuse (also probably verbal. That's common as fuck.) from his parents. But hey that's just a theory based on what I'm observing here and my own research

Shockwave and Megatron sound like they have such an interesting dynamic, especially with how resentful it seems to turn on Shockwave's side after the ships vanished.

Make sense makes sense

So he's probably thinking he's not as bad as his parents, but he's still perpetuating the cycle in his own way because he never got help and has no frame of reference for what the hell a healthy parent/child dynamic is.

The frantic game Shockwave is playing here is fascinating, the road to hell is paved with good intentions no matter how much he tries to justify it.

Makes sense that there would be decepticon warlords that have a tense at best and outright violent dynamic with Shockwave and his leadership.

Oh he is having so many feelings over this. So many feelings.

The war is indeed not over, it has simply changed in a new direction.

Any date with Shockblast is going to be like the mech; loud and probably a bit dangerous. For a first date? He’s going to go all out. There’s no such thing as a ‘date in’; he’s going to taking you somewhere the two of you can let lose, somewhere remote where you won’t be bothered. He’s going to be the one to set the time and place. It’s a good thing that you’re into him. It never even crossed his mind you could say no.

Your first date is to a deep canyon, Shockblast wanting to ride around and do a shooting competition with you. It’s half race, half shooting gallery. He set up some targets before you got there and it’s exhilarating, racing up and down in the sun. If you’re human then you’re riding with him, laughing and hollering as he speeds up to go over the largest jumps he can find.

There’s a break for fuel, Shockblast leading the conversation. He asks you questions about yourself, which is a surprise. He does genuinely like you, he just doesn’t know how to express it. If you compliment him he’s going to be over the moon, chest puffed out and laughing in a ‘I told you so’ way.

He considers the two of you dating after the first date, regardless of how it goes. Shockblast isn’t a weak personality and you have to stand your ground with him. He’s not going to purposefully walk over you but he tends to rush in without thinking. Be firm and he’ll respect you. Just don’t get in his way during a fight; destruction is his aim and anyone is the game.

(they might even make up a fourth alternate mode for transformers legacy energon shockblast and the repaint "g1" nitro zeus just like how they made a city mode for armada tidal wave even though he never got one)

slowly begins dusting off the assimilation au because wow that really cracked open my…. 3rd eye so to begin, shockwave noticing that 3rd eye like "oh. oh no. well time to avoid this forever and ever" practicing keeping his eye closed so it's less obvious to people who see him. secretly trying to read and absorb all the news about his stint as shockblast. Obsessively seeing what happened, reading and re-reading articles, listening to discussions, all the information he can get.

Also, that depth perception change.... yikes. He keeps running into things, ducking to avoid doors he thinks aren't tall enough, walking into tables because they look farther away. he also strikes me as the guy who'd just stare at a wall or at the floor for hours on end, or he'd just be so obsessed with absorbing the news about his villain of the week thing that he just forgets to eat or sleep.

soundwave unfortunately gives off the exact opposite vibe where he's sobbing uncontrollably into a pint of ice cream.

this is actually pretty close to regular story canon, tbh. post Shockblast, he gets convenient plot amnesia and forgets precisely what happens, but he does vaguely remember being in the grip of something powerful, himself being something powerful, and the absolute lack of boundaries that power came with. he’s also i think the one who lives in the thrall of a corrupted relic the longest, for weeks or months instead of days or hours. that disguise served Shockblast well but it pretty drastically affected how badly affected Shockwave was afterwards. the amnesia and the more obvious physical changes are probably related to how long he spent like that. also i just thought it would be cool to keep referencing TFA’s cool design tbh

also re: third optic, he does his level best to keep it closed all the time, but that doesn’t actually matter, because this optic was created by the Lenses. yknow, that magical thing that can see everything

depth perception is one thing, sure. but getting lost in the atomic makeup and thermal traces and flowing time of the world around you, and watching the traffic moving and weather patterns and birth and death of stars beyond you... he gets pretty dizzy, yeah, and closing his optics doesn’t help much

it would actually be a fantastic aid in science and discovery and just, monitoring his endangered school, but it’s also utterly overwhelming. and it’s just a fraction of the Lenses’ power! he’s emotionally drained and shellshocked for a long time, so this new outlier ability is something he pushes aside and ignores instead of taking advantage of it. it’s all just. too much. he can barely stomach hearing about what he did as Shockblast, but he has to, he’s the one responsible for his own actions, and the safety of this school, and the political management of the situation, and--

Shockwave in SNAP is unlike most canons because he isn’t permanently heartless/emotionless like he’s usually portrayed, but he definitely reaches a point of overwhelm where he just mentally and emotionally checks out a bit to do his job robotically instead of with the same enthusiasm he had before. it’s really sad for his staff and even the students to see him broken like this
