Whimbrel migration happens earlier in Spring when hundreds—if not thousands—of them fly across Lake Ontario on their way up north to their breeding grounds. This happens for a period of only a few days. . One photo I’ve always wanted to capture was a flock flying in front of the Toronto skyline. . Knowing the timing would be difficult to predict, I was so happy that I saw them fly by on my second attempt at the park. . It was only a flock of about 30 whimbrels but they flew in circles around the park and eventually made their way in front of the skyline! . I *think* this cool bird is a Greater Yellowlegs! It can be quite difficult to distinguish from Lesser Yellowlegs and Greater Yellowlegs unless they are right next to each other, but one slight difference is Greaters have an ever so slightly longer and more upturned bill! As the name says, they can be identified from other similar shorebirds by their bright yellow legs! 💛😂 . . .
