Had a daydream that the council erected a forcefield over the new Maggie Thatcher statue, and it was the kind of forcefield that cooks things (you know, burns you if you touch it). So some genius activists started throwing eggs at the forcefield, which cooked the eggs, catching them in some pita bread, and selling them for £2. Double the price to throw the egg yourself. Then all the money was given to the Trevor Project.

Can you explain the full story, please?
Absolutely but we need to start from the beginning. Back in the 70s this French madlad, Thierry Sabine, got lost in the Sahara while competing in another rally raid. He made it back to civilization and thought to himself "This was a great experience, we should make it a regular thing! Rally raids in the desert!" so, in 1977, Thierry organized a large scale rally that would cross the whole Sahara - starting point would be Paris and the end would be the capital of Senegal, Dakar.
I guess Thierry was not the only madlad around because 180+ other drivers/riders etc decided to join in on the fun. Popularity rose the following few years thanks to big name entries such as Jacky Ickx. The rally was very much an adventure: you got a general map indicating stops you should make on your way to Senegal and... That was kind of it. No teams, no real backup. People showed up in modified everyday cars, someone even raced in a modified Rolls Royce lmao
So by 1982. the rally was kinda known but it wasn't the scale it was today. Enter our main character: Mark Thatcher, absolute weapon of a man (honestly, look him up... Man does not sound like he's the sharpest tool in the shed lmao) and unfortunate son of one Margaret Thatcher (prime minister of England at the time). He decides to enter the rally with his lil Peugeot 504 with no real prior experience besides racing Le Mans twice (which... uh, very different from a rally in the desert). So he starts off with his co-driver and mechanic in tow and gets lost in the desert. It happens, right? People usually turn up after a day or so. Well, after 3 days he's officially declared missing and mommy dearest is informed. Obviously the son of the Prime Minister being lost somewhere in the Sahara is quite a big deal, so the news was all over that, and Old Maggie decided to flex some of that British muscle - a rescue is launched, involving three separate countries who sent out military aircrafts to search for this moron in the desert, as well as Algeria dispatching its soldiers to find the guy.
After a few days, Mark is found about only 50 kms away from the main route of the race 💀 which caused quite a bit of embarrassment on an international scale to his mom.
Anyways, bad publicity is still publicity after all, and by the year after there were 450+ entries to the rally which included big name manufacturers such as Porsche etc. and it evolved in the crazy 2 week rally that we know today!
Bonus - Quotes from Mark Thatcher about the whole ordeal:
Before competing he said:
"I've now raced in Le Mans and other things – this rally is no problem."
In 2004, Thatcher wrote about his experience:
"I did absolutely no preparation. Nothing."
"We must have hit something. ... We stopped. The others stopped too, took a note of where we were and went on. But the silly bastards – instead of telling everyone we were 25 miles east when they finished the section, they told them we were 25 miles west."
"So The Boss (the prime minister) does entirely the right thing, picks up the phone to the ambassador in Algiers and says, "Can you find out what is going on?" The ambassador then rings the prefect of the region who says there are four people missing and that I am one of them."

Hi and welcome to my blog! 👋
As you can tell by the username, this page is dedicated to Margaret Thatcher, aka professional groundbreaker, glass ceiling shatterer, and unofficial Queen of England.
I respect and admire her for a multitude of reasons (more so to do with her personality than her politics) and want to share that here with like-minded people! Needless to say, many corners of the general media are dedicated to fostering negative opinions about her, so I feel it’s only fair for there to be spaces - no matter how small - catering to those who like her.
I plan to post a variety of content such as pictures, videos, gifs, fun facts, quotes, and more, so if this sounds interesting to you, feel free to follow! 💞
PS: please also be sure to check out my lovely friend @maggies-girl who I met here and without whom I wouldn’t have had the idea to make a blog in the first place.
⚠️ Disclaimer: I view this blog as a fun hobby and therefore wish to keep it a positive one. The controversial nature of the topic is not lost on me, so I am disclosing right now that I will not be interacting with hateful messages, should they be landing in my comments. If you find any of my posts to be a nuisance to your personal safety, mental health, or overall well-being, do us both a favor and block me :)

harry sympathizing with colonizers and elitists the likes of the queen and maggie thatcher has never sat right with me. he’s a tory at heart but will never say outright which side of the fence he sits because he doesn’t want to lose any fandom money. the fact that he got credit for supporting the less privileged when all he said was “vote”, how he wouldn’t even say the word “abortion”, how he avoided the blm flag for months even as his poc fans asked him to show his support, there’s also his zionist beliefs - so many red flags that people willingly ignore.
getting back to blm for a moment. as a poc, this was hurtful and i feel it clearly drew lines where he and his fandom stood. no rewriting of history is going to erase that it was only bad press that made him address it. the claims that he grew up in a diverse environment (there was probably only a handful of non pocs in cheshire), that he was poor and working class so we needed to ignore his lack of interest and empathy for certain parts of his fandom spoke volumes. it should be noted that poc have only ever made an appearance in his life when some of his fans ocassionally notice that his entire existence and friend group is rich, white privileged men and skinny, white model-looking women, most of whom he picked out from the victoria secret catalog like he’s leonardo dicaprio.
the timing of blm flag, blm march, stormzy, lizzo and taylor2 - i can’t help feeling that he had boxes to tick to get some good press back.
i don’t know how serious he is with taylor, but what i do know is that he’s using it and using her to rehab his cheater image and to stop people saying he only has white girlfriends.

9, 11, & 15 for quinn and brady in other-vancouver!
the world can hold quite still aka quinn hughes's big adventure in other vancouver!! under a cut bc i can't shut up ty becs ily
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
oh good question. no! there are many versions in my head about other vancouver (the sedins are elder gods, elias is an elder god but he doesn't know it like a fucked up percy jackson also brock is a plant witch in love with him, alexander edler is the only person who calms troy's ghosts who are slowly killing him, thatcher demko california goalie who hopes vancouver doesn't hate him is the coyote king of vancouver, what was going on with rogers arena.....) that are just straight up urban fantasy but not really any other versions of the quinn/brady story. they were always just a very tender love story that came together very easily in my heart and once i figured it out i didn't really want to explore it from any other angle. (also bc maggie requested a) that verse and b) the nucklings. and the 2019-2020 sens are fully beyond my comprehension lol. there is FOR SURE a brady story but it would require way more research on the ottawa senators than i am currently willing to do hahaha.)
also, unrelated entirely to quinn and brady, someone commented on jack laughing in his sleep, saying "there's a whole other world" in it which i didn't consider while i was writing, but now i'm like, give $5 to boston pride hockey and i will write a spin off of a spin off of jack hughes's interiority and the way his dreams are always happy (and the one time they're not?) and what happens in other new jersey and also how he and quinn are each other's touchstone
(at some point i assume you all will get sick of ambiguous endings and then i'll really be in trouble lol)
11: What do you like best about this fic?
oh man i kinda said this is in my comment response to you but i really liked how easily this one came together once i started. the mattdrai one was very difficult because there was a lot of worldbuilding and a lot of leaps of faith bc it was built on a premise that just is never going to happen, but the qhughes in other vancouver is like...that's a real love story. not in a tinhat way, just in a way where there is very clearly years of love and affection between brady and quinn (in whatever form that takes, not my business what their business is). it's easy to take something that exists and just play with it in an other world. it came together very easily for me bc there's a very real element of care. also bc i am often in the rarepair trenches, it was kinda nice to just poke around at something that is way more tangible and has more documented history than like. well you know the shit i usually write lol
but also this is my favorite part:
Brady jams a stick against his shin, trying to get the puck out from under him. “Stay safe,” he whispers to Quinn. “Please stay safe for me. Please, Quinn. God, I hope this isn’t what it’s like for you. I hope your dreams are never as bad as this one is. You don’t deserve this. No one deserves this.”
“What?” says Quinn, turning all the way around, knocking Brady off balance through pure adrenalized shock.
Brady kicks the puck out from next to Quinn’s skate. He knocks his visor against Quinn’s. “I love you so much, Quinn,” he says fiercely. “I hope I wake up soon.” He bats the puck away from Quinn and races off down the rink.
brady wants him to stay safe :( brady loves him so much :(
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
THAT I SHOULD NEVER TRY TO WRITE A FIC IN 100 WORD SCENES JFC it was like writing the world's worst twtfic for no reason. on that note, keeping a strict word count for scenes can be very helpful for writing when you're stuck! 100 words was...insane, considering the worldbuilding i wanted to do in this fic, but telling myself, ok, you have 500 words per scene, go, that was actually a really good writing exercise AND helped me get better at nailing down what exactly i wanted to convey in a scene, over just saying whatever. my first draft sucked bc i couldn't wrap any scenes up, like they were just going on and one forever without any real purpose, so i really enjoyed giving myself a strict word count per scene and working under that. i think it made me a better writer and it's also something i've been playing more with in subsequent fics, giving myself strict word count rules.
thank you for asking ily!!!!

Hi Jess. Just curious but I saw your tweets about the new Prime Minister and I think it's hard to run a country when it's in such a bad state already and maybe we should all get behind her and hope she does a good job before we're criticising her? It's great we have a woman Prime Minister! That has to count for something?
Fuck the tories and Liz atp???? Idgaf if she's a woman???? So was Tezza May and Maggie Thatcher and look how well that turned out????? She's a woman and she's still a prick not my fault.
Like yeah she's getting a shit load and ty to the tories lol??? They voted for David Cameron who put us up shit creek w out a paddle then bounced. They voted for TM who barely scraped past a general election bc the country is full of pricks who want an extra fiver in their pocket. Then they kicked her despite voting for her months earlier. Then they voted for BJ who is a fucking cunt and then they went actually???? Not shit enough get OUT. Now we have Liz so canny wait for them to oust her in mere months atp when half the country has frozen to death over winter and the rest are rationing food and electricity cheers v much.
There's no 'giving her a chance' when her voting records show she's a pile of turd like?? I've just screened a few of the welfare ones bc that's generally what I care about most bc if you canny take care of the most vulnerable in your society then what the fuck are you doing?????

Has Teresa Hanson's now sole marital home risen in value since she murdered her husband?
By Stanley Collymore
If in actuality, Teresa Hanson can very approvingly to the Karens and similarly the likeminded Gammons across Britain intentionally and obviously rather callously plunge a kitchen knife, deeply into the chest of her own husband, and afterwards actually literally unconcernedly then very significantly carry on preparing their Christmas dinner as if nothing distinctively out of the ordinary had happened, except obviously having her husband's blood aptly spewing all over their kitchen floor; and this prime act of barbarism discernibly done to a husband quite obviously between the two of them of some 34 years standing. Someone, that Theresa would intriguingly clearly surprisingly claim was effectively her complete entire world, and all this murderous hassle effectively brought about simply because of a disagreement between them. I obviously shudder to think, and I likewise equally presume, would any rational and quite intelligent person, what specifically Teresa Hanson would've really involved herself in actually doing, relative to her husband if she hated him!
This woman, and I'm not simply saying this glibly but literally quite seriously, as I once previously trained and also effectively worked as a psychiatric nurse, in the British NHS at what obviously used to be then Clifton Hospital located at that time in its own sumptuous and distinctly appealing spacious grounds just off the Thursk Road and similarly too just outside the Cathedral City of York. Idiotically sold off, like many others, by the avaricious Maggie Thatcher and her Tories! Clifton Hospital: also England's biggest, and distinctly oldest mental hospital; crucially usually, dealing with a hardcore ingrained plethora of sectioned lunatics! So, I'm fully cognizant of and likewise unquestionably naturally conversant, regarding what I'm really speaking about.
Teresa Hanson is undoubtedly in my mind and based on my own psychiatric experience an unquestionably evident psychopath who, like such people, has undeniably rather significantly convinced herself that she is actually simply otherwise than what she distinctively, naturally most crucially and rather irrefutably is. And believe you me such people can be, and are also invariably very convincing in their evilly seemingly though quite plausible behavioural pattern towards all those that they realistically know and instinctively too, feel they can basically take in. And while evidently, the jury didn't fall for any of it, quite disastrously nevertheless the court's very own presiding judge - who so leniently sentenced Teresa Hanson, to her measly period of incarceration in jail - John Thackray, certainly did and unquestionably also, fittingly fell for Teresa Hanson's, bullshit; essentially hook line and sinker!
Just nine years for Teresa Hanson in the aftermath of her obviously vile, murderous crime, as she's safely housed in some quite effectively cushy, female prison and then actually when public memories are essentially dimmed will naturally be paroled and rather characteristically as far as the usual English prison service practice   Is concerned, such women - most of whom are quite naturally the classic Karen type will undeniably obviously and rather crucially, evidently regain their lost freedom in a literally short space of time. While significantly in the same warped and deeply stupid troubling mindset, the so irrefutably and unquestionably quite obviously distinctively categorically and quite too, obviously discernibly ingrained psychopath Teresa Hanson, should have been realistically incarcerated for the full remainder of her literally sociopathic and obviously pathetic psychopathic life in a secure penal, mental institution - like Broadmoor or Rampton - and not permitted, as will happen with her essentially be able literally, to enjoy the full perks of an unquestionably rather comfy prison environment before a quite expected release on parole in four years time. What a farce re justice.
(C) Stanley V. Collymore 5 October 2023.
Author's Remarks: From my formative years I always knew what I principally wanted to be when I became an adult; and that was to be an Academic. Subsequently on my entering Grammar School in Barbados very early really at the age of 10 years, the normal age for general admission was actually 11 years but exceptionally bright pupils were literally put forward earlier by their respective junior school and essentially also with the full support of their actual class teachers and naturally too that of their family members. I was effectively therefore among that very exceptionally talented lot; quite outstandingly passed those exams, I was afterwards officially informed and subsequently allowed my choice of Grammar School.
That school - the Alleyne School - with its Latin motto: Aliis Non Sibi, literally meaning - For Others Not Ourselves - which you can readily Google its quite outstanding history should you actually care to, and I obviously ardently advise and recommend that you do so, was unquestionably the solid foundation of all my distinctly discernible realizations throughout my entire life.
Equipped with quite absolutely brilliant teachers who made the art of teaching a joy to behold and an experience to be thoroughly enjoyed, even long after leaving school and well into our own adulthood, but rather sadly with them all having very peacefully and evidently contentedly, requisite not only to their own lives and outstanding achievements, but too from the perspective of everyone they came across, regrettably departed this life; they're literally rather effortlessly so, still iconic figures and irrefutably as well legions in all of our lives, as the responses requisite from our Global Aliis Non Sibi and Alleyne School fora, and rather comprehensive social media platforms, do effusively and gratefully show.
Notably among them was Mr. Kenneth G. Doughlin, a most exceptional English Master, Classics Teacher and similarly as well Music Director to those that he taught across those numerous years as initially the Deputy Head certainly when I was a pupil at the Alleyne School and as Headmaster after my departure.
A close friend of my evidently extended family and a specifically commendable neighbour of my darling paternal great aunt, Aunt Mlllie, who lovingly but quite likewise sensibly and responsibly spoilt me greatly throughout my childhood, as well as additionally all her life until at a great age she evidently rather sadly for everyone who knew her simply passed on to be with the other Celestial Angel's but spiritually routinely keeps in touch with me - God eternally bless her soul - and attendantly her husband and my outstanding Godfather, both of whom were unquestionably supportive and rather encouraging too, like my overall remaining family members were, quite thrilled to bits when my Mama literally asked Mr. Doughlin to give me private tuition and quite unhesitatingly he did so!
That helped considerably in my intense learning process and what I would very undoubtedly do in my adulthood. Since knowing that undeniably I wanted to be an Academic, Mr. Doughlin outlined the pitfalls in such a career and graphically outlined how I could and would literally quite successfully overcome them. Far too many people think that teaching is an easy pastime for themselves, in that they can leave school, basically get into a university that would have them, then on obtaining their degree obviously go back into education without having any real experience of life; yet undoubtedly conceitedly deluding themselves that they're experts at dictating to juvenile minds what life is essentially all about. It's not only pure nonsense but likewise clearly incalculably wrong, Mr. Doughlin eruditely and most sensibly stated.
And unquestionably accounts for why I authentically did the jobs that I actually chose to do and which themselves did comprise such diversity: Nursing; the Royal Air Force; also the British Inland Revenue; and additionally Journalism, principally among them but others as well subsidiarily. I'm a qualified youth leader, athletics coach who once did distinctively train aspiring athletes at Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club and additionally also a marriage guidance counsellor; quite distinctly with a plethora of viable work related experience that I could and have taken into the principal career of my life that I've always very keenly but furthermore, patently and similarly successfully have embarked upon, and evidently, fervently thankfully and most gratefully so to one of my life's irrefutably and significantly likewise significantly principal mentors, the indisputably incomparable and also charismatic Mr. Kenneth G. Doughlin!
And why it's my firm belief that judges should likewise be legally obligated to have crucial work and life experiences outside the very incestuous and rather unrealistic life experiences which they quite ludicrously ensconce themselves in. For had Judge John Thackray done so, he distinctly wouldn't have been so gullibly taken in by psychopath Teresa Hanson, to then meet out to her such a very pathetic sentence as he obviously did. And regrettably John Thackray isn’t alone in doing what he asininely did!
"Vita est infinite plus quam sicut vivere est!" - Stanley V. Collymore 1960.

The things about 'sympathy is for normal people not heads of a colonial empire' is I get it but:
We ain't a colonial empire any more. I get that monarchy presided over that, but by the time the Queen came to the throne we were already dissolving the empire, not continuing to build it.
Queen Elizabeth didn't oversee the colonisation of any countries, that was her grand and great and great-great grandparents. And unfortunately you don't get any control over what your grandparents did or the family history you were born into.
And maybe she was reluctant to let countries leave the empire and become republics, I don't know, but she certainly didn't stop it either. She wasn't sitting on the throne shouting and kicking her feet asking for India back. Politically she had no power to do that any more anyway.
She was the first Monarch in 100 years to visit Ireland and when she did she basically issued an apology. She was always strongly anti-apartied even when Maggie Thatcher was against putting political repercussions into place against it (of course, because fuck her).
Like, the monarchy and the political epochs of this country could and should do more to acknowledge their shitty colonial, racist, imperialist pasts and institutions but it is worth remembering that the Queen existed as an individual as well as a figure head. And whilst the Head of Royal family represents the monarchy as an institution, they actually have surprisingly little power within it - they serve the institution and are, somewhat, bound by it. (See in part why Meghan and Harry said 'we're out')
So maybe you can have sympathy for the Queen and her family as individuals, as actual people, whilst simultaneously having no sympathy what so ever for the Monarchy as an institution?

The Consitution is Unworkable
I used to be a big fan of the Constitution - I thought it was a cool aspirational document. I even have a couple of paperback copies on my coffee table: one from the ACLU and one from the National Center for Constitutional Studies.
Why did I think it was good? I'm not exactly sure. Mostly because it's an unquestionable truth, a given, an unchallengeable and unchallenged veracity.
As I learned about the Constitution, I absorbed the conventional wisdom that you can't have a real democracy without a written Constitution. And it seems like a good idea: let's enshrine the ore tenets of a democracy in a short, concise, aspirational document.
I've been pissed off with British politics for a long time now, starting with the malevolent Maggie Thatcher, through the oleaginous Tony Blair on to the deceitful David Cameron, the faux sincere Theresa May and ending in the very worst position the narcistic proto-fascist Boris Johnson.
The public schoolboy yelling and jeering in the House of Commons - whilst entertaining - doesn't seem like the right way to run a democracy to me... and what do you know? Britain doesn't have a written constitution! In my political naivete and without really thinking about it I would trot out that line, suggesting that British democracy was flawed. And of course, it is flawed, but I don't think the existence or absence of a written Constitution has much to do with anything.
In terms of democracy, government, government agencies and the judiciary, Britain doesn't fair too badly, in fact, in many ways, it's actually better than the US system. It has issues for sure. For instance, the House of Lords is a fundamentally undemocratic institution but it mostly acts uncontroversially, adhering to sensible norms. The fact that the Queen is actually in charge of Parliament is just fucking insane to me - it's not exactly a solid bedrock for a democracy - although it doesn't have much real world impact. Nevertheless, we do have to go through the charade of the Queen opening parliament and the Prime Minister meeting with the reigning monarch. It's not a good look.
Having said that, the British system of government laid the foundations for democracies all over the world and the judicial system - whilst far from perfect - is probably the best in the world. The Magna Carta was the first document to enshrine personal rights and freedoms, notably Habeas Corpus: the right to a fair trial.
And furthermore, the American system is founded on many principles and structures taken from the British system. It should also not be forgotten that the American system was created by wealthy white men who came from British privilege.
But, back to the Constitution. On the face of it, it seems like it's absolutely the right idea: let's lay the foundational tenets for our democracy.
First of all, it has to map out the basic structure of government and that's really the easy part. In that regard, the Constitution is unambiguous. That's a good thing. It's also a bad thing, because it enshrines principles that are fundamentally undemocratic. The Electoral College for instance, which was hastily written in and seems to have been structured as an anti-democratic safety valve that could be used to override the will of the people should they try to elect a President who was too unsavory for the aristocracy. It's an absolutely ludicrous system.
It kinda sorta works despite being crazily structured, but it's not democratic. A lot of the inbuilt problems in the Constitution come from the desire and need to always be thinking about State's rights. Remember that they were constructing the framework for a United States from States who wanted to preserve their autonomy and self-determination. So the Founders were treading a fine line with a focus of creating a viable and acceptable union of the States.
And right here, there's a big problem: the autonomy of the States is kind of antithetical to a United States and the concept of a central government, but the Founders had to thread this needle to make it all work.
You've got to be mindful of the fact that before there was a United States, with adoring masses chanting USA at every conceivable opportunity and waving flags, there was no United States to chant about, so it had to be a good sales pitch.
Hence the Electoral College gave the States the ability to call their own presidential elections as they saw fit. Subsequently, they set down rules in their own Constitutions as to how their electoral votes would be decided. But it's not a good system further to it being undemocratic. Republicans lost the popular vote in 2000 and 2016 but secured the presidency.
The bigger issue is that the system is weak and leaves the door open for abuse - as we are now witnessing. People laughed at the idea of creating alternative slates of electors because it was manifestly illegal. They did it anyway. They almost got wat with it. If Pence had rejected the votes, they would have got away with it. Many pundits suggested that if the VP tried that, the Sergeant-at-Arms would leap up and lead him away in cuffs. But that would never happen. Why? Because half the Senate was complicit, or prepared to be. With half the Senate yelling that this was legitimate, the SOM, who is no Constitutional expert, would have done nothing and the election would have been stayed. Once that happened the nervous State Secretaries of State would quite possibly have acquiesced knowing that the coup could now succeed.
But what about the rest of the Constitution? It strives to be concise, aspirational and to be as generic and all-encompassing as it can be. The idea being that unless it explicitly references a specific scenario then the broad brushstrokes and aspirations of the document apply. The needle is intended to lean towards personal freedoms and the rights of the people.
But - and it's a major but - the Constitution does not enshrine any rights for women. You could say that it doesn't need to because clearly women have the same rights a men, but at the time, they most assuredly didn't. So the Constitution was implicitly misogynist.
Slaves were considered to be 3/5 of a person. That is correctly lambasted by most people. How can you consider a human being to be 3/5 of a person? Wrong! They were in fact considered to be 0/5 of a person. They had zero rights. The 3/5 was simply so that their owners could leverage their slave ownership to garner them more influence in Congress. It was more egregious than treating slaves as 0/5 of a person.
How about the Second Amendment? The Constitution does include any unnecessary verbiage. The clause about the militia is not just padding. At the time there was no standing army. National security was important and the only resources available were the State militias where every able man between 18 and 46 was required to sign up. That context is long gone. State militias have long since disappeared and we now have a National Guard to fulfill that function. The weapons are stored securely and the NG don't take them home with them, yet the statute remains.
To my mind, this highlights the failure and inoperability of the Constitution as a guiding star. Think of all the wasted breath on interpreting what the Founders really meant by the Second Amendment. What if we just had laws that we could repeal or refine without all this fucking nonsense about what the Founders really meant. And I'll add to that by saying that conservative justices really don't care about what the original meaning was.
They talk all this shit about textualism, originalism, purism and so on and it's just fucking word games. The reality is that the Constitution can be twisted like a pretzel by partisan actors who don't give a shit about what it really means.
The difference is that Democrats lean towards individual freedoms and rights and conservatives (I'm being generous here) lean heavily to corporate rights and the rights of their wealthy donors. One side is essentially working ethically and the other is working out of self-interest.
And please be aware that the Justices basically answer to no one. For instance, Justice Thomas did not recuse himself on a case where his wife was implicated and there are no rules to make him do so, nor is there anyone, not even Chief Justice Roberts (conveniently) who can make him do so.
The qualifications to be a Supreme Court Justice are zero. There's no age minimum, no required experience, no seniority level - you don't even need a law degree. To date, every Justice has been trained in law and has had a law degree (they don't want to be too open about their RW activism) and some experience on the Federal bench but Amy Coney Barrett, who is the least qualified Justice ever, has never tried a case in court and was likely given a position on the Federal appeals court simply to prime her for an SC seat a few years later.
So, here's the biggest problem of all: the Justices are partisan appointees with tenure for life and they know that they can make up shit and twist the Constitution to mean whatever they want it to. They hide behind their originalism and textualism, which is all just nonsense, they don't don't even have to believe their own arguments - it's a case of the ends justifies the means.
Yes, the Constitution can be amended but it's very hard to do. Ultimately, any amendment needs to be ratified by three-quarters of the State legislatures. It's highly unlikely to happen ever again while the GQP exists in anything like its current form.
Let's look a few more failings of the Constitution. Let's go back to State's rights. As I said this is kind of antithetical to the notion of a fully united States. We are somehow separate and independent while pretending to be united. But more than that, look at the huge discrepancy that the States create within a putative democracy. Every State has 2 Senators with equal power and influence. California has 40 million residents and Wyoming with a mere 585 thousand. This is not a fair representation by any stretch. In addition, we had the situation where North and South Dakota were created separately, with a current combined population of just 1.5 million just to secure another 2 senators in red states. It's a scam.
Nationwide, Dems required 1.6 times the votes of Republicans to secure the same number of seats. The best democracy in the world? Hardly.
On the surface, a Constitution looks like a good idea, but how do you enforce it fairly, how do get over the huge hurdle of amending it when it becomes murky, out of date or totally disconnected from the current reality? Certainly not when administered by unelected, partisan, under-qualified, under-experienced justices (Robert, Alito, Gorsuch, Barrett and Thomas), with lifetime appointements.
The assumption was that they would be completely impartial and would simply do their best to interpret the document. That is a badly flawed assumption. And even if it were true - would this be a good mechanism? I don't think so.
Let's just legislate and draft laws that are unambiguous. Yes, that does mean that a fascist government could draft whatever laws they want, but they'll do that anyway, regardless of the Constitution and we may be about to find that out.
In summary, the Constitution makes people feel good about adhering to a coherent set of principles but in reality it's not worth he paper it's printed on.

Not the Tories saying they’ve had a hard weekend after voting against kiddies getting free meals.
Honestly just take them all, put them in a pit and pour cement in. Absolutely zero compassion for people. Dirt under my shoes the fucking lot of them.
Wouldn’t piss on that shower of cunts if they were on fire.

Hello!! Would it be okay to request for an Addison Montgomery x Grey!Reader?
They're trying to keep their relationship private for the mean time but while walking along the corridors, Mark and Derek tease Addison and welcome her into the Grey's club or something like that HAHA.
Meredith gets wind of the conversation and is like "you're dating my sister?" and then both Maggie and Lexie come and say the same thing. Mer is just chill with it, Lexie is happy, while Maggie lowk threatens Addison LOL. Then reader asks whats going on and you can decided how it ends! TIA :)
Tumblr media
A Chessboard of Complex Doctors (Addison Montgomery x Grey!Reader)
tags: AU-Everyone lives lmao, cursing, sexual references, kissing, Lexie just doesn't talk abt you lol, Mark and Derek tease Addie.
summary: You and Addison sleep together and begin a private relationship, Meredith finds out.
You were another sister in Meredith’s brood of sisters. Apparently, both Thatcher and Ellis had been busy with babies, you were the youngest sister between Thatcher and Susan, having followed in Lexie’s path through medical school and into a surgical internship, of which you were a few years behind her. Meredith’s shock and awe at your existence was doubled by Maggie’s and Amelia’s.
“Lex, did you just never mention me?” You confront your sister in a lighthearted manner and she shrugged, half heartedly, making you roll your eyes. “You’re just so much younger than me!” You sigh and there is a barrage of laughter from the group of you all.
Nearby, the attending doctors stand and discuss their upcoming surgeries, when the laughter pulls them all away from what is basically their bragging contest, “So, there’s another Grey sister?” She pretends to not know, it takes all in her body to do so, the night before you’d both met at Joe’s bar and had gone home together in a meeting that had her thinking about you long after you left, now you were here. Derek nods at her and Mark looks at the two of them, a bit confused. “Wait, Lexie didn’t tell Meredith about (Y/N)?” There was silence among the three doctors when Derek turned to him, “You knew?” Mark nods, chuckling a bit, “I did more than know, Derek, I met her! She’d just graduated and I suggested Seattle Grace Mercy West…” As the two men bicker with one another about this development, Addison stays silent, staring at you nervously. She hopes the guys don’t notice and decides to run before they do. She begins to walks past the group of you all, laughing and joking, when you stop.
Addison. You remember the night before vividly, excusing yourself from the conversation, following after her, pulling her into an on-call room. "You're a Doctor?!" You ask, mildly shocked before exclaiming, "Wait, and you work here?!" She sighs at your exclamations locking the door, "You didn't tell me you were Lexie Grey's sister and that Mark Sloan got you here!" You stare at her, mouth agape as you shake your head. "This is a mess..." You murmur to no one in particular as she shakes her head dismissively, "Why is it though? Derek and Meredith, Mark and Lexie, if you wanted we could..." There is silence between the two of you before you turn to her, meeting her lips with your own. All the confirmation the both of you need for this lust-filled moment to begin the bloom of love. Your hands holding onto her body become something tender as the two of you repeat the night prior. When you both are done, she leaves first, trying to compose herself once more, pushing her hair behind her ears and nervously messing with her hands. She walks past Derek and Mark and right away, they knew something is up. Addison never acts like that unless there is something to hide.
"So, Addison..." Mark starts, "You meet the littlest Grey yet?" She nods, not meeting his eyes or Derek's, "If Lexie's the preschooler what do you think (Y/N) is?" Derek chuckles as he joins in, "I'd have to say fetus probably, but maybe we should consult Addison on this. Since she's joined the Grey's-club now." This made Addison hotter than hell, she glared at the two of them and in a hushed voice said, "Look, I need you to not tell Meredith about the fact that I accidentally had sex and am now dating her half-sister!"
Mark and Derek send one another a look of enjoyment, "Alright, just know that those Grey girls are something else." Derek teases her, noticing Meredith as the two men pipe down with the teasing.
Meredith doesn’t seem… mad, Addison can’t really tell what emotion there is on her face but it’s probably not positive. You are finally out of the on-call room after waiting possibly a bit too long.
“So, you’re dating my sister?” She says, emotions still a bit confusing, as if she’s trying to scare Addison a bit, that bit of conversation draws attention from Maggie, Lexie, and Amelia who all seem incredibly invested in the conversation now. “Meredith-” You try to speak over her before she gets mad, “No, wait, I’m not mad.”
There’s an air of surprise, but Maggie speaks up before Meredith can say anything, “(Y/N)‘s an adult, guys, I can’t do anything about the new sister,” She begins, “All I ask, Addison, if you hurt her. I will not be happy. I have a new sister in my life and I want her to be happy, so if you hurt her, I will hurt you.” There’s a quiet air before Derek busts out laughing, Maggie had rarely ever seemed so angry and hearing the normally kind woman speak so seriously towards Addison like that was funny in a way. You roll your eyes at your new sister, “Addie won’t hurt me, Maggie. Besides, like you said. I am an adult.” You take Addison’s hand lovingly as Lexie smiles at the two of you, “I’m just glad that my little sister is happy, besides, aren’t you glad Mark suggested Seattle Grace Mercy West to her as an internship?”
Then, all hell broke loose, as a barrage of doctor’s went towards Mark asking why he hadn’t told them of your existence while you and Addison walked off. Hand and hand.

it's really unfortunate how one of the most overtly evil people in the British Government is a woman of colour, a group which is sorely underrepresented in government and particularly in the Tories
I call it the Margaret Thatcher effect. it really fucking sucks in the same way it sucks how the only two women to ever be PM have both been Tory cunts who oversaw the active destruction of social welfare and a massive rise in racism, violence and poverty.
(I mean one thing we should consider here is: how has the Tory party has multiple female leaders but there has never been a woman leading Labour? because one (1) woman in contention for PM who isn't the Toriest Tory available might slightly redress the balance of Our Historical Female PMs are Evil.)
Anyway Priti Patel isn't party leader but I do think she speaks to the Margaret Thatcher Effect, which is to say in a party built on callousness and greed-is-good mentality and which is absolutely full of misogynists, to get anywhere as a woman you absolutely have to be the most callous and the most focused on the politics of power and the least kind. And, generally, pretty misogynistic - from Thatcher's hatred of feminism to Rudd's opinions on motherhood to May's government's treatment of rape victims.
(the same is true of immigrants and people of colour in the Tory party, who are often leading the charge on racist and anti-immigrant policy making. Again, especially Priti Patel, who takes active, spoken and visible glee in leading deportations and detentions and ramping up the Hostile Environment)
There's three things at play I think in the Maggie Thatcher Effect.
One is that Tories are unilaterally evil cunts and being a woman or a person of colour or gay or an immigrant doesn't cancel out the level of cunt you need to be to think it's a good idea to advance the policies and goals of the Conservative Party.
The second is that in spaces dominated by white men there's a constant pressure to kill any 'weakness' that they might assume of you on the basis of your race or gender so you have to be as unsympathetic as possible, as prepared for cruelty as possible, as hardline as possible, and you can't be seen to be soft or have a ~bias~ towards protecting women/people of colour.
The third is that to get to the point as a woman/immigrant/person of colour where you truly think that Tory supremacy is the right choice despite their policies actively targeting women/immigrants/people of colour, you have to be someone who is able to truly convince yourself of your own exceptionalism. You're One Of The Good Ones who bootstrapped your way up, unlike the whiny losers who blame "systemic racism and misogyny across politics". You can take a joke. Your family immigrated The Right Way, or if they didn't then their experience was exceptional and therefore justified. You aren't weak like them and if they can't get to where you are they deserve to suffer (again, Thatcher's utter disdain for feminism).
And the effect of this is that in a party like the Tories, by the time you, as a woman, are in the like 10-20 top ministers who everyone knows about, someone with a major policy portfolio, power and influence, it means that a) you were probably a cunt to start with, b) your rise to the top depended very heavily on being more of a cunt and c) your position depends on you continuing to be. a total cunt.
And this is also a party issue. It looks great, especially for a party like the Tories whose track record on women's rights, race, immigration and so on is brutal to say the least, to have the person signing off on deportations be the child of immigrants, to have the person speaking on Women's Issues be a woman, to have the person in control of expanding police profiling and racist policing policies be a person of colour. but they also need that person to not argue back or try to defend their communities. (That's why Sajid Javid fell from grace a bit)
Priti Patel, like Margaret Thatcher before her, is the perfect Tory woman for her generation, crueler than the men but still a Vulnerable Woman; she's also a woman of colour and a child of immigrants so criticising her racist immigration and policing policies must just be The Woke Left Revealing Is Hypocrisy; she can #girlboss her way through dawn raids and increasing police powers in a Diverse Way. I am very very afraid that Priti Patel might be our third female PM and the only thing that I think might stop her is that she wears her glee on her sleeve a bit too much (and also. racism in the Tory voter base)

I read online that the MacMillans were/are of Scottish decency. Should I imagine your Melania in The Black Sheep with a Scottish accent? Lol
I mean.......MacMillan is a Scottish name.
Lowlander/aristocratic Scots have a distinct accent. Melania, if she had a Scottish accent, would probably sound more like former Thatcher cabinet secretary Malcolm Rifkind than Maggie Smith as McGonagall, lol.
