It was windier than it had been before when Eddie pulled up to his trailer, and any semblance of neatness in Steve’s hair was blown away the second he stepped outside. The wind stung against his face, and he blinked back tears as he squinted at the trailer. It wasn’t supposed to be this cold, it was July sixth.
He waited for Eddie to get out, and then hobbled behind him to the front door. Every step made his chest ache and his lungs burn. The painkillers helped a bit, but it was only Ibuprofen so it just made him feel less tired. He still needed sleep, though. Maybe a good shower. He smelled like blood sweat and dust, even though his clothes were clean.
Eddie opened the door and helped Steve up. His hands were warm, but his rings were cold, and Steve didn’t realize he had been staring at the metal skull until Eddie tried to wriggle his hand out of Steve’s grip. Steve let go, his cheeks pink.
“Sorry,” he tried to say, but he barely got the words out before a gruff voice called, and Wayne Munson shuffled into the room, eyeing Steve over.
“Ed? Who’s this?”
Wayne’s brown flannel hung loosely off of him—the same with his ripped-up jeans, that Steve didn’t think were supposed to be that ripped. He had lost weight since the last time Steve had seen him out. Which has been a few months ago.
Steve wanted to say that he was nobody—that he was just a stranger staying the night because he felt too broken to go and sleep alone—because he couldn’t just accept the fact that he had to be okay, even after everybody that happened. But he stayed silent, watching Eddie go up to Wayne and whisper something.
Their tones were hushed, and Wayne kept looking back over at Steve, which made him shrink into himself slightly, feeling bare again. He wished he had a jacket or something—something that he could pull around himself. He tugged the waistband of his jeans up a bit higher and crossed his arms over his stomach.
He honestly didn’t know how long he had been staring at the floor, but eventually Eddie came over and took his hand, tugging him down the very small, thin hallway and towards the bathroom. Steve felt a few tears slip down his cheeks, but Eddie ignored him, looking over his face for a minute before he pushed Steve gently into the bathroom, stating simply, “Shower.”
Steve nodded and wiped his eyes. He really needed to stop fucking crying. But he knew that wasn’t going to happen. Not for a while. He watched Eddie run a hand through his hair, his eyes wide as he huffed and held his hands out in front of him—palms facing Steve like he was a spooked animal that might run. He might’ve.
“Jesus, okay. We have very little hot water, so try not to use it all, yeah? Like a ten minute shower tops? I’ll come in and leave some clothes on the counter, and then I’ll go and make up the couch for you. You’ll be okay in here by yourself?”
He said it like he was offering to stay, and Steve really would have fucking liked that—just to have someone in here with him even if he couldn’t see them through the shower curtain—but he knew that’s not what Eddie was asking. So he nodded even though he didn’t mean it and let Eddie start the shower for him, tucking himself into the corner. He watched as Eddie grabbed a towel from the cabinet below the sink and placed it on top of the toilet seat, before patting his shoulder and leaving.
Tumblr media
Fuck, the shower felt amazing. Eddie came in at some point to put clothes on the counter, but Steve wasn’t really aware of anything more as he sat there, letting the water run over him. He regretted washing his hair, because he didn’t know what the hell was in Eddie’s shampoos—the bottles kind of sticky and the labels long worn off—but it was better than having his hair flopping over and stuck to his forehead. He also didn’t think that Eddie had any hairspray—let alone the kind he normally used.
He tried to get himself out before the water turned cold, but he regretted it immediately after, because the air was too-cool and his hair was sticking to the back of his neck in a way that made him want to cry.
He dried off and changed into the clothes Eddie had left on the counter—an old brown sweater and some shorts that clung to his thighs in a way that was almost uncomfortable, but he’d live. It was better than sleeping in jeans, anyways. The door to Wayne and Eddie’s rooms were closed, so Steve went to the living room, falling onto the couch that had a blanket draped over. He had kind of expected it to be more made up than it was, but then felt bad for thinking that. He had shown up last minute, to people that he knew didn’t like him that much, so he deserved to sleep on the couch where the springs poked into his side, with a scratchy pillow and a thrown blanket that Steve thought was supposed to be white. And it probably had been, at some point. Maybe twenty years ago.
He tried to get comfortable—tried to shake off the gross feeling of his damp hair, which was going to look horrible in the morning, but at least it was clean, now—and closed his eyes.
Tumblr media
There was blood everywhere. It was on him, and on the floor, and dripping into teeth. He was alone and the room was dark and fuck, he couldn’t see. Everything was blurry. His face hurt. His head hurt. His chest hurt. He heard the door open, and backed into the corner, barely able to see through his swollen eyes.
“Please,” he begged, but he didn’t even know what he was begging for. He just wanted it all to stop. He wanted to leave. He wanted to die. He wanted Robin.
Tumblr media
Steve woke with a start as he heard the screen door swing shut, sitting up quickly and gasping. His hands immediately went to his face, feeling it over, and he crumpled back into himself when he felt the stinging of still-hurt skin. It had happened. He wasn’t okay.
He got up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as gently as he could and stumbled outside, his feet tripping over themselves. He kind of wished he had kept his socks on after the shower, even if they were dirty.
Eddie was perched on the picnic table just outside of the trailer, a cigarette dangling from his lips, an open notebook in his lap. He had headphones on, and Steve could hear the loud music coming through, but the Walkman was too far away for him to read what the tape was. There was a small tin sitting next to it, cream colored with a gold-looking lid. It looked outdated.
Steve made his way down to the grass and sat next to Eddie, who still didn’t notice him, his eyes glued to the notebook and whatever drawing he was making. Steve picked up the tin. It had the face and shoulders of a woman on the front—long blonde hair and a laurel wreath, her pale skin almost the color of the tin. There were green and gold designs around her, outlining the font. Some of the words were faded and scratched over, but Steve could make it out. Or at least what he thought it said.
Colgate’s Dactylis. Talc Powder. Boric Antiseptic. COLGATE & CO. New York, USA.
He opened it, and there were cigarettes stuffed inside, a lighter stuck with them. The tin in itself wasn’t very big, but it fit maybe four or five of them with the lighter.
He felt Eddie startle as he set the tin back down, flinching in on himself, one of his knees raised as he threw the notebook onto the bench and wrenched off his headphones. “Jesus, Harrington…,” he muttered, putting a hand over his heart and sighing. His eyes looked kind of red, like he had been crying. Steve wanted to ask what was wrong, but he knew Eddie would yell at him if he did. “Give a man a warning.”
Steve nodded and looked down. “Sorry ‘bout that.”
“Don’t be,” Eddie muttered, huffing and picking up the Walkman. Steve tried to catch a glimpse of what it was, but Eddie tucked it away after he paused it, too soon for Steve to see.
Steve sighed, settling into the almost-uncomfortable silence, before he saw Eddie’s hand in his vision, holding out the cigarette for him. Steve looked over at him. Some of Eddie’s curls were falling over his face, acting like a curtain, making his expression unreadable, but he saw Eddie nod.
He put his to his lips and took a drag, holding it for a second and letting the smoke fill up his lungs, before he breathed out, watching the smoke cloud in the cool early-morning air in front of his face. At least he assumed it was early-morning.
“So graceful,” Eddie murmured as Steve handed it back to him. He didn’t know why, but it made his cheeks flush. Eddie took a drag himself and sighed out the smoke, dropping his head before he handed it to Steve.
Steve just looked down at it for a moment, watching the very tip of it sizzle to ash. He heard Eddie clear his throat and looked over. His hair kind of looked golden around the edges from the light of the porch light of the trailer behind them. It looked good on him. Made him look almost god-like.
“You smoke often?” Eddie asked quietly, and Steve shook his head.
“Not really?”
“Is that a question or an answer?” Eddie mused, eyeing Steve over, a kind of annoyance in his face that was overshadowed by the soft yellow light around him.
Steve shrugged, looking away and sighing. He didn’t mean to keep making Eddie angry with him—and to be honest, he didn’t even know what he was doing to make him mad—but maybe he deserved this, for being such a dick to him years ago.
He was about to say something stupid that would probably make Eddie even more mad, an apology for his past actions on the tip of his tongue, when Eddie spoke up again. “You ever shotgunned?”
Steve froze, shaking his head. “No.”
“I meant with smoking.”
“There’s another one?” Steve tilted his head.
Eddie nodded. “S’the, uh…you stab the thing?” He mimed stabbing a knife into something and then taking a sip. “With the beer? I’ve seen you do it at parties and shit. The girls seem impressed by it.”
“Oh. I didn’t know that’s what it was called,” Steve said quietly, shrugging. “I’ve never…done the smoking one, then.”
“Do you want to?” Eddie asked, and he sounded kind of unsure. Steve looked over, feeling his eyebrows raise, and he hesitated.
“Hm?”
“Shotgun? Do you want to?”
“Yeah, sure,” Steve scooched a bit closer, handing the cigarette back to Eddie. “How do I do it?”
Eddie raised onto his knees on the top of the picnic table, hovering above Steve before tucking a finger under Steve’s chin so that he could raise his head. Steve leaned into his hand slightly, and maybe it was the fact that he was fucking exhausted that made him do it.
Eddie grabbed his face gently, his fingers were a bit harsh in a way that Steve kind of liked, the other man’s fingers pressing into his cheeks, the cigarette in his other hand.
“Open your mouth,” Eddie whispered, and Steve did. He felt like an idiot, just sitting there with his mouth hanging open as Eddie towered above him, taking a drag of the cigarette. He didn’t blow it out in the air, though, instead leaning forward, his lips ghosting over Steve’s, and Steve thought about leaning in for a split second, before Eddie breathed out into Steve’s mouth.
It startled Steve so much that he flinched back, his eyes wide as he choked on the smoke and coughed, doubling over with his face tucked into his arm. Eddie laughed softly and shook his head slightly, putting out the cigarette against the heel of his shoe when he sat back down. He grabbed his notebook and Walkman, standing up and flicking the stud of a cigarette into the grass. “That was shotgunning. Like it?”
Steve nodded as he coughed, his face burning red and his eyes watering. What the fuck just happened? Eddie walked back into the trailer, closing the screen door behind him. Steve got up and grabbed the cigarette but, tugging the sweater down lower, his thighs stinging from where they had been stuck to the picnic table.
He wanted to talk about this, because all of that seemed to…it seemed too much like a “friend” thing, for two people who “hated each other”. Maybe even more than a friend thing. But he knew they wouldn’t talk about it. He didn’t know Eddie that well, but he did know one thing about him. Hell, everyone knew it.
Eddie didn’t talk things over with people.
Tumblr media
Eddie’s cigarette tin. If you even care.
I don’t read the parts of this fic over, if you find a mistake, lmk!!

New Year's Eve Kisses.
Steve Harrington x Reader (Fluff)
Just a short and fluffy NYE drabble with Steve, heavily based on this scene from Friends
Posting this a little early but whatever 🤷‍♀️
Word Count:668
Masterlist / Steve Harrington Masterlist.
The party is in full swing with everyone gathered in Steve’s house for a new year’s eve celebration. There’s banners, decorations and food and drink aplenty as all the party-goers stand around chatting in their groups.
“Yes! ‘87 baby! It’s finally going to be my year, Harrington. I can feel it!” Eddie beams brightly, his wide smile stretching across his face.
“Good luck, man.” Steve cheered back, clapping a hand on his shoulder.
“We’re both happy for you, Ed.” you smile at your friend, although you wish you could share his enthusiasm about the new year drawing to a close.
You and Steve had been only dating for a few months, and Eddie was the only one who knew about you two. An unfortunate moment where he accidentally caught you both making out in a dark corner in The Hideout one time. Truth be told, Eddie didn’t think too much about it until he saw you leave the bar hand-in-hand with a matching pair of smiles on either of your faces.
Eddie noticed how your smile didn’t fully reach your eyes, and a worry set it’s place in his chest.
“Hey, what’s the matter?”
“We wanted to kiss at midnight, but nobody else is going to, so we can’t either.” you explain with a sad tone in your voice.
“Don’t worry about that, sweetheart.” Eddie says with a nod. “Just let your old pal Eddie sort it all out.” he tells you all too confidently.
Tumblr media
Eddie makes his way over to Robin where she is already enthusiastically beginning to countdown the seconds until midnight.
“33! 32! 31-”
“-Hey Rob-” Eddie interrupts. “Who are you kissing at midnight, huh? Chrissy or Nancy?”
“What?” she replies in confusion.
“You gotta kiss somebody. You’re gay, so you’re not gonna kiss Steve.” Eddie explains further.
“So who’s going to kiss Steve?”
“Y/N is.”
“Really?” She smirks, cocking her head to the side.
“Look, who would you rather have kiss Steve, me or y/n Eddie says with a quirked eyebrow.
“Oh definitely Y/n.” she decides all too quickly. “I suppose I’ll kiss Chrissy.”
“That’s great!” he smiles at her, with a pat on her shoulder before moving his way around the party.
Tumblr media
“Hey Chrissy!” Eddie shouts over to her above the music. “Robin’s going to kiss you at midnight!”
“Oh okay! Sounds good!” her cheeks flush pink at the idea of kissing that cute girl from the school’s band that she’d had a secret crush on for a while.
Tumblr media
“Nance! Nance!” Eddie shouts, getting her attention as he makes his way towards her. “I’m going to kiss you at midnight, okay?”
“What?” she shakes her head, her dark curls bouncing as she does.
“Everybody’s kissing someone, so I’m going to kiss you. Plus you can’t kiss Steve, you two have that whole weird history going on.”
“And?” she shakes her head once more, as if she wasn’t quite following what Eddie was putting forward.
“Besides, Jonathan’s not here, so who would you rather have kiss you, me or Robin?”  Eddie asks, with a confident nod of his head.
“Robin’s lovely, but I just don’t swing that way.” She confesses.
“Great.” Eddie smiles.
Tumblr media
The countdown to midnight draws closer and closer as everyone gathers by the television in Steve’s living room.
“3! 2! 1! Happy New Year!!” Everyone cheers, as they hug and peck the lips of their respective New years eve partners.
You wind your arms around Steve’s neck to bring him closer as his hands find their home on your hips, giving you a gentle and reassuring squeeze.
Steve leans in close to you, his lips softly brushing against yours in a sweet kiss.
“Happy New Year, Honey.”
“Happy New Year, Stevie.” you smile back at him, your eyes sparkling with love for the boy in front of you.
You couldn’t be more happy to have your Stevie in your life, and sharing a kiss with him at midnight was the perfect way to ring in the new year.

Can we get prompt 22 & 25 with Maria Hill (angst w/ hap end (maybe slight smut if ur comfortable)) PLEASE 🙏🏼
22. “You can still use your legs, so don’t say that I was jealous again”
25. “Don’t cover my bite marks, or I might just have to add more”
A/n: so this was my first time writing Maria and I didn’t wanna immediately write smut. Sorry :/
Tumblr media
Maria was normally a totally closed off person, the team often tried to engage her and it took several years for her to finally tell them something. But it was never something really really personal which made them even more surprised when she brought a girl to Starks party. On her arm was a beautiful y/h/c girl wearing a shorter dress and gazing up at her with utter admiration.
“Oh wow, who’s that?” Sam asked Steve who was also starring at you. Next to him on the couch, Natasha, Bruce and Wanda were also starring at you.
“I do not know but I am going over there” Wanda said and walked over to you. By now you were standing at the bar, ordering for you and your girlfriend. “Hey there” the brunette spoke up as she slid next to you, shooting you an overconfident smirk.
“Hello” you smiled at her friendly before looking straight ahead again, you weren’t really interested in having a conversation.
“You know, I would have thought that god would keep an angel like you to himself” She asked coming a bit closer again. You had to bite your lip to stop your laugh.
“Is this how you talk to everyone here?” You asked with a grin and turned towards her.
“No, just pretty girls. My names Wanda” she stretched out her hand for you to take, her smile even cockier than before.
“I’m y/n and I gotta go” you said after shaking her hand as your drinks arrived. While Wanda was nice and kinda funny you’d rather be with Maria. So you took your drinks and walked away and past the couch were the others sat.
“What was that?” Maria asked once you were back, taking the drink from your hand. She eyed Wanda who walked back to the couch with a small pout.
“She just wanted to say hi” you weren’t going to tell her the flirting stuff because you didn’t want the agent to hurt her. But she could see through your lies and only gave you an ‘mhm’ before continuing her conversation.
The whole evening went like that, somebody’ either from the team or somebody else, came to you and tried to flirt. It annoyed Maria unbelievably but she didn’t wanna cause a scene and she trusted you. So she let you be on the other side of the room, but always keeping an eye on you, just in case somebody made you uncomfortable.
You could see Maria’s face turn red once Wanda came back and started to touch you. They weren’t forceful or anything, her hand on your arm or your shoulder, sometimes innocently grazing your thigh. It was hard to hide your grin, so you turned your head the other way.
At one point nearly everybody left except the team, some dudes you didn’t know, you and Maria. Fury even came to visit once it was just you guys, he was the one who wanted to introduce you. “Everybody, this is my assistant and new agent y/n y/l/n. She will be here the next couple of days when we have our conferences” he said and gave you a pat on the shoulder before sitting down. You sat down between Maria and Sam which turned out to be a big mistake.
“You know, you could assist me in my bedroom tonight” he told you with a smile, his arm laying behind you on the couch.
“I’ll pass but thank you” you mumbled leaning further into Maria. You wanted to climb on her lap and hide your face in her neck but she didn’t wanna tell the team so you just scooted away a bit.
At one point Natasha came to rescue and made you sit next to her and on the edge of the couch. Sure she was flirting too, but it wasn’t as sexual and way more funny. Plus, you kinda liked the way Maria looked at you once Natasha was flirting with you and she wasn’t close enough to stop it.
“Alright, it was really nice to meet everyone but you know, early day tomorrow. So I’ll see you then, thanks again Tony” you said as you stood up, waving everybody except Natasha and Wanda who decided to hug you. Much to Maria’s dismay.
You waited outside for about ten minutes, knowing that Maria wasn’t gonna take long. A small grin on your lips as you leaned against the wall, purse in hand. It took her longer than you thought to come down, 25 minutes passed when you finally saw her. But your smile fell when your girlfriend came down the stairs with one of the dudes you didn’t know, his arm slightly wrapped around her waist and a smile on both of their lips. They talked for a short moment, Maria typing on his phone before he leaned down. You weren’t stupid and Maria wasn’t either, be planned to kiss her, probably hoping to take her home but she turned her head in the right moment for him to kiss her check.
You were fuming when she came over to you. A stupid cooky smile on her damn face. “What the hell?” You asked with a strong voice, an annoyed look on your face.
“What? You think you’re the only one who can flirt?” She asked walking to the car before you could answer. You rolled your eyes and sat in the passenger seat.
“Flirting? I was being flirted with, I didn’t do anything actively. You were the one who gave a dude her number and he nearly kissed you” you tried to stay reasonable but it was no use. “God what the hell were you thinking?” You shook you head looking out of the window.
“You started all of this, they were all over you” her eyes flickered over to you as you stood on a red light. She watched as your brows furrowed and your head lightly shook.
“So what? I didn’t do anything except being nice, they’re your friends!” You told her as you got out of the car, house key already in your hand. Both of you walking through the door and letting everything fall to the floor.
“Oh so suddenly being nice means whoring yourself out?”
“What the hell? I was being nice, you were the one who flirted around and nearly kissed somebody else! You wanted to keep this secret and now you can’t deal with the fact that other people might want me too”
“Please, this is not what this is about” she screamed back making you roll your eyes and turn around. “What are you doing?” She asked.
“I’m leaving Maria, this is useless. You don’t trust me but you wanna keep me a secret. This won’t work like that and I do not feel like arguing with a brick wall right now” you argued back, your keys already in your hand.
“You’re being pity, y/n” this time you couldn’t help but laugh.
“I’m being pity? You’re the one who’s pity, you’re jealous and you can’t deal with it Maria” you told her sternly, pulling of your second stiletto with an annoyed sigh.
The next sound that escaped you was a yelp as the brunette had picked you up and carried you into the bedroom. “Wanna say that again?” She asked teasingly as she threw you onto the bed. You were in for a night.
A couple of hours later, Maria fell next to your own sweaty body. She waited a couple of moment before doing so to make sure you had calmed down. She then stood up to get a cloth to clean you. “Open your legs love” she mumbled which made you whine but do so nonetheless. “You can still use your legs, so don’t say I was jealous again” she told you with a raised eyebrow and a grin.
Once she was done cleaning you and got you a glass of water she laid behind you, her arms wrapped around your waist as she carefully intertwined your legs. “I gave him the wrong number by the way” she suddenly whispered into your neck, placing a soft kiss there. “I wouldn’t have given him my number under any circumstances” she added, her thumb carefully stroking your hand.
“You better” you mumbled before falling asleep.
The next morning Maria woke up before you, but instead of getting up she decided to stay in bed with you a bit longer as she admired her work on your neck. There were countless hickeys scattered across your neck, your shoulder, your breasts and your thighs. She couldn’t wait for the moment you saw them.
Not long after your alarm started to ring which made you stir, immediately turning towards Maria and hiding in the crook of her neck to avoid getting up. “Come on sleepy head, we gotta get going” she mumbled and pressed a kiss to your head before getting into the shower. Once you were awake enough you followed her, the bathroom already full of steam, covering the mirror.
You showered way longer than you actually should have, but if you have the opportunity to shower with your really beautiful and smart girlfriend, you don’t say no. So you hurried out of the shower, grabbed some clothes and dried your hair before returning into the bathroom to do your makeup. Your mouth fell open once you looked into the mirror. “Maria hill! You better move your ass in here right now” you screamed.
When she came in she was already wearing her annoyingly sexy smirk which meant that she definitely knew what this was about. Her arms wrapped around your waist as she stood behind you, holding the hand that was getting the concealer down. “Don’t” was the only thing she said as she smiled at you through the mirror.
“What? I can’t go to work like this”
“Don’t cover my bite marks or I might just have to add more” she said sternly, “you know I mean it” a heavy kiss was placed on your neck before her arms unwrapped themselves.
“This is gonna be fun” you mumbled as you put down the concealer and tried to move your hair so it was covering most of your neck. Unsuccessfully so.
The moment you set foot into the conference room it was clear that this was going to be the most embarrassing day of your life. You were still standing at the door when everybody’s eyes were on you. “Damn! Y/n got lucky last night” Tony laughed causing your face to turn red. You were teased her and there before Maria came inside, her hand immediately going from your waist to your ass as she pulled you closer and led you towards your seats.
She was quick to turn around and send Sam and Natasha a wink before pulling out your chair. Now it was their turn to blush and look down which made you chuckle. “Who would have thought?” Clint said clearly surprised as he watched you and Maria while Tony grinned.
“Maria” he called out and threw a piece of paper towards her to gain her attention. “Nice” he said with a nod and a proud look on his face which made everybody laugh.
“I will just say this to be clear, the next person who flirts with her is gonna get their ass handed. Is that clear?” Suddenly she was back in full commander mode as everybody nodded at her. She smirked before placing a kiss on your lips, a happy sigh leaving her.
So maybe, jealousy wasn’t always the worst thing.

hey, heard you were looking for angst requests? could you do one thats natasha x reader during end game, where natasha still sacrifices herself for the soul stone, but steve is able to bring her back when he returns the stones, and she comes back all excited to see everyone came back and to see reader, just to find out that reader also gave her life by doing the final snap to defeat thanos.
Understanding
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x GN! Reader
Summary: Natasha returns to some news she wasn’t ready for.
Angst | Light Language Warning | Character Death | Grief | 0.7K |
AC: I like this idea, it’s different! I hope you enjoy this, sorry it’s kind of short x
Tumblr media
"Why are you all looking at me like that?" Natasha frowned as her eyes scanned the room, but she knew when her eyes reached Clint that something was wrong. Steve cleared his throat as he stepped forward only to be stopped gently by Clint's hand on his shoulder. "I've got this" he whispered before looking at his best friend once more.
Nobody had a chance to process the events that had taken place, Thanos was dead, a victory for the world but at the price of one of the Avenger's own. The longer the silence filled the room, the more Natasha's mind filled with what she knew was about to come out of Clint's mouth.
"Nat"
"Don't!" Natasha snapped, trying to fight off the building tears in her eyes. She looked to Steve, "go back! Bring them back!" she demanded but it was too late, they knew for sure it couldn't be done.
"Nat, it's not that simple" Clint spoke, his words only angering Natasha.
"What the hell happened?!" Nat asked, biting the inside of her cheek as her mind raced a million miles per second trying to make sense of the situation. Everybody looked at one another, again, the room filled with silence. "Can somebody please just answer the damn question?!" Nat's grief began to show in anger.
"They did it, Nat. They defeated Thanos with the gauntlet" Clint replied. Natasha's tears broke, she hated to hear it, but she needed too. "W=why did none of you stop them?!" she asked. If anybody had to die, she only wished with was somebody on Thanos's army, not you.
"They thought you were dead, they weren't thinking straight when you didn't return" Steve inserted himself.
"I'm here now"
"We didn't know that we were even able to bring you back….Nat, I tried, I went back for them" Steve paused as Tony gave him a pat on the shoulder as he walked up to Natasha.
"They did it for you" he looked at her, "every part of their being in that moment was in revenge for you. They're one of the best, we and world will never forget that and what they did. If we could bring them back, best believe me I would do it"
Natasha couldn't take it, the idea of you being gone and her not being able to see you, hold you, hear your silly jokes that she thought were ridiculous half the time, but they made her laugh anyways. She brushed past Tony, Steve and Clint, leaving the room with her heart behind and her mind full of anger with nobody to take revenge on.
----
As time moved forward, Natasha could help but feel stuck, stuck in a time that no longer existed. Nothing but dreams and wishes helped Natasha get through the long hours of the day and even longer hours of the night. Just hoping you'd walk through the door or steal one of her sweaters simply because you said they were comfier than your own.
Natasha had lived a life a lot different to most and somehow, she was always able to make sense of it and how it worked. She's dealt with death her entire life, but your death hurt her just as much as not knowing who her biological mother was.
The others did their best to help her through this, but they all knew it was better for Natasha to do it herself, they just reminded her they she wasn't alone, and they were always here for her.
A memorial of you was created by the city of New York, many people would come and lay flowers, cards, stuffed toys and even some of your favorite snacks as a thank you for everything you had done to save the world. It brought a sense of comfort to Natasha knowing that people around the globe were thankful for your sacrifice but still, she just wanted you.
Yelena dropped everything after the snap and decided to stay at the compound with Natasha, an extra set of eyes to ensure the red headed assassin wasn't going to do anything stupid or fall even deeper into her grief. The two spoke a lot about you, just like everybody else did but Natasha didn't feel like she was bothering Yelena with her memories of you, sometimes she felt the team might get bored of the same stories or it might be too much for them to think about but with Yelena, she never felt any of that.
Over time, Natasha came to terms with your sacrifice and now lived her life making sure you were never forgotten or ever forgetting the live she had with you and always dreaming of a life that could've been.

(young man what do you wanna be tag | Ch1-2 on AO3)
“Hey, did you and Jonathan tell Will to ask me about—” Steve glances around like the world’s worst spy, and leans close even though they’re the only living souls in the trailer. “About gay things?”
“Uh,” Eddie says. “No? Wait, Jonathan might’ve.”
Steve pushes both his hands through his hair. “Why would you do that! Shit!”
“Again, I did nothing in this scenario,” says Eddie. “I’m pretty sure this one specific thing is not my fault.”
“He asked me about our relationship,” says Steve. “He wanted gay advice.”
Eddie swallows down his first impulse, which is to demand to know whether Eddie’s advice isn’t good enough for Will all of a sudden. “Okay,” he says instead. “What did you tell him?”
“I don’t know! I quit giving Dustin advice on girls, like, years ago! By the time I was Will’s age, I was pretty busy fucking up the only serious relationship I ever had.”
“Sure, maybe, but you can’t think about age that way. It’s like…” Eddie tilts his head. “For a lot of us, there’s a—a late start, right? It’s like a whole different time scale, because we gotta figure ourselves out first. We don’t get the manual to all this shit, so we either waste our time chasing some kind of picket fence life that we don’t actually want, or we just make it up from scratch.”
“Right, cool, okay,” says Steve. “I didn’t say anything like that. I told him to keep his chin up. I—think I called him slugger.”
Eddie pats him on the shoulder sympathetically, definitely not feeling at all vindicated about the fact that he’s clearly winning at gay mentorship. “Could be worse. What did the littlest Byers say?”
“He’s taller than Jonathan now,” says Steve.
“So not the point, sweetheart.” Eddie rolls his eyes. “C’mon, how’d it go?”
“Shit, I don’t know.” Steve huffs out a breath and pushes his hand through his hair. “Not good, I don’t think. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing with that kid. He just wanted to know how I figured stuff out, and like—why I wouldn’t just go with girls.”
“Yeah, uh, on that note,” says Eddie. “Is this a new development? Like.”
He pauses, trying to figure out the exact right arrangement of words.
“Like…” he says, slowly. “I’m just wondering, you know, why it hasn’t come up before. I mean, you already know about me, everybody knows about me. Is it—”
Did you not want me to think—
Did you not want—
“Pretty new, I guess,” says Steve. He lies back, arms folded behind his head, taking up more than his fair share of Eddie’s bed. Eddie climbs over him and takes his usual place tucked up against the wall, keeping a careful distance.
Steve’s parents are leaving again tomorrow, so this might be the last time for a while. It’s not like they won’t be seeing each other all the time; at this point, they’re so tangled up in each other’s lives that it’s not so unusual for them to hang out every day for weeks without even trying.
But it might be the last time for a while that they lie here like this, in a shadowy space where the line between thoughts and words gets slippery enough to cross. Eddie tries real hard not to think of it as anything special; it’s just his stupid fucking heart running away with him, the way it always does.
“Okay,” says Eddie.
After a while, he says, “Goodnight.” Steve doesn’t answer.
———
“Eddie!” Robin hollers from across the store. “We’re enemies now!”
“Okay!” he yells back. “Why?”
“Why do you think, asshole!”
This is getting unsustainable, so Eddie wanders over to the counter where Robin’s cashing out.
“Is it because I’m giving you a ride home out of the goodness of my heart? Unconventional, but I respect that.”
She chucks a balled-up receipt at his head. “Steve, dumbass.”
“Whoa, whoa,” he says, ducking out of the way and holding up his hands like he’s trying to soothe a spooked horse. “I dunno what he told you, but I didn’t do anything to him.”
“Exactly,” snaps Robin.
“Robin,” he whines, switching tactics. “C’mon, don’t be pissed at me. You know you’re my favorite lesbian in the whole wide world. You’re the cheese in my burger, the fries in my shake. My wretched soul cannot bear the weight of your scorn.”
He can tell she’s still trying to be mad, but the corner of her mouth is twitching, so he drapes himself over the counter and wails, “Milady Robin! Say only that you can forgive my dark and unworthy deeds, whatever they may be, or I shall perish right here in this fine establishment.”
“You really don’t know what you did, huh,” she sighs. “God, you’re the worst.”
Eddie peeks up at her through his hair. “Planning to enlighten me any time soon? Or are we going straight to pistols at dawn?”
“We are going to be driving me home,” says Robin. “And we’re going through Taco Bell on the way. We’re still gonna be enemies, but you can purchase a temporary peace treaty for the low, low price of two chalupas and a large Sprite.”
———
“Hey, Harrington, why’s Robin mad at me?”
“Mad at—? Oh. Uh, I think she misunderstood some stuff.”
Eddie groans. “Is this about the fake dating thing again?”
Steve looks a little pained. “Maybe?”
“Byers needs to go his own way! Call it another—lonely day, or—you know what I mean. Buckley can’t take in every wounded baby bunny that stumbles across her path.”
“I don’t think that’s what’s happening.”
“Sure, okay. So, do I need to defend my honor by finding Will a boyfriend or something?” Eddie pauses. “I realize that sounds like an insane scheme, but consider this: it’s still better than Operation Happy Ending, so I’m standing by it.”
“Not cool, man,” calls Argyle from the floor. Eddie has a theory that Argyle likes lying down on the floor because he’s tall. It’s not a very well-developed theory.
“No, no, I’m fully on board with the name,” Eddie assures him. “Baller name. You hit it out of the park on that one, dude.”
“Righteous,” says Argyle. “Appreciate the support.”
“The idea still sucks,” says Eddie. “But that is one hundred percent the fault of Jonathan Byers, and you remain the utterly blameless light of my life.”
A sudden thought strikes him, and he sits up, dislodging Steve’s hand in his hair.
“Hang on, Steve—did you ever actually tell Will that we’re not dating?”
“What? Yeah, of course.” Steve frowns. “Uh, probably? Man, I don’t really remember.”
Eddie shoots him a squinty look, and Steve holds his hands up. “Dude, I don’t know! I wasn’t trying to lie to the kid, there was a lot going on. Don’t know why he didn’t go ask Argyle instead.”
“Oh, he totally did, my bro,” says Argyle. “I think he’s, like, doing the rounds. I just told him not to worry about a thing and let the Lady Fate lead the way. I dunno if he was ready to embrace the Lady, though. He didn't really seem to get it.”
“Fucking great.” Steve leans back on the couch, staring up at the ceiling. “Between the three of us, maybe he’ll get some kind of actual goddamn life lesson or whatever.”
“Fuck you, I am an amazing Gandalf. I mean mentor,” says Eddie. "Wait, shit. Does that mean Byers has been getting most of his actual gay advice from me? Holy shit, we can't let that happen. I'm like—the worst possible future for that kid. Steve, you gotta go back and try again."
He smacks Steve's shoulder. "Go back and tell him some real stuff! And tell him we're not dating, or he'll think he has to settle for the first loser that threatens him with a broken bottle!"
"Wait, is that—you don't actually think that, do you?"
"I mean, I'd like to say nobody will ever threaten him with a broken bottle, but Lady Fate works in mysterious ways. And frankly, given his whole…" Eddie waves a diffident hand. "Penchant for sniffing out trouble like a bloodhound after a T-bone, he's definitely going to wind up on the wrong end of a bar fight at least once or twice."
He pauses. "Don't tell Jon I said that, he'll wig out."
"Okay, but like—you know you're not—a loser, right?"
Steve touches Eddie’s back, a warm brush of fingers, and Eddie shrugs uncomfortably. "Just a figure of speech, Harrington. Don't worry your pretty little head about my ego, I'm doing great."
"Hell yeah you are," says Argyle. "Great as Gandalf."
Eddie is like 90% sure Argyle doesn't actually know who Gandalf is, but he appreciates the gesture.
"Thanks, dude," he says, poking Argyle’s head with his foot affectionately. "You're a great Gandalf too. The most Gandalferous."
"Can everyone stop saying Gandalf please," says Steve, so obviously Eddie has to bellow "Gandalf Gandalf Gandalf" right in his ear until Steve puts him in a headlock.
It's a pretty good afternoon.

sushi and fun mugs- b. barnes
pairings: bucky barnes x reader, sam wilson, steve rogers, random ocs and duck variant quack warnings: people misjudging bucky, reader being upset about it, somewhat short about: request! bucky is super quiet and intimidating and everybody is parting like the red sea whenever he's around yet there's *this one agent* who does everything to make him feel included and loved. everybody thinks she's being delusional for trying but, is she? part two
“how do you think he takes his coffee?”
“black.” genevieve leans back in her chair, lips puckering as she thinks, eyes thinning. “pure black. no milk, no sugar—he probably just chews on the beans.”
you send her a look and ignore her reponse. “i think he’d take it with sugar. lots of it.”
genevieve’s nose wrinkles, meeting your eye in incredulity. “he doesn’t seem like the type to have a sweet tooth,” she tells you. “sugar fuckin’ turns to… like salt or something in his mouth.”
shrugging, you jut out your bottom lip thoughtfully, cocking your head to catch a glimpse of the man in question through the captain’s office window. bucky barnes sits silently at the table, listening to steve as he talks and ignoring the quips sam wilson seems to be making. you see him roll his eyes twice after sam manages a chuckle from steve, not reacting when he’s nudged with a playful elbow.
“i disagree,” you respond finally. “i think he’s plenty sweet.”
steve and sam finish up the conversation with a single word from bucky, beginning to get up and leave the conference room. a moment after they’ve opened the door, bucky parts his lips with a silent sigh and stands as well, turning in time to catch your stare.
you smile at stunning blue beneath tense eyebrows, lifting two fingers in an enthusiastic wave. bucky manages a rigid lilt of his lips back at you.
“see?” you say to genevieve, who sends you a grimace.
“he looks like it’s physically paining him to have to interact with you.”
with a final glare her way, you move away from her desk, spinning when you hear sam’s voice nearby.
“hey, sam! steve,” you greet. sam returns your grin and musses up your hair while steve settles with a controlled smile and a nod.
“how’s my favorite agent? still kicking ass?” sam asks.
“i just finished up that mission two days earlier than planned, so… yeah,” you brag with a wink. “how’re sarah and the kids?”
“good. she went on a date yesterday, still gotta see how that went. jim and jody start school again next week, so they call to complain about it whenever they can. somethin’ about superhero uncle privileges.”
you suck air in through your teeth and stare up at him guiltily. “they bring up good points.”
“that’s the problem!” sam exclaims, eyes flickering to something off to the side. “someone needs me. talk to you later.” he pats your shoulder before taking his leave.
you turn to steve, bouncing on your heels excitedly. “how’s your cat?”
steve laughs before replying, already slipping his phone out from his back pocket. “she’s doing great. already stealing my socks.” he shows you his phone’s screen, faint smile on pink lips as you eye the orange cat over pairs of mismatched socks, disappointed frown on its snout as it stares into the camera.
“oh, that’s love,” you praise with a clap. “and art class? monday, right?”
“yup. surprisingly relaxing.”
“i told you,” you pester before catching movement on bucky’s end. he steps out, and the agents that had gathered in front of the office to talk to the other avengers silence, beginning to dissipate. you frown, able to see bucky’s indifference but not having it in you to mimic it yourself.
you bend to grab a mug of coffee you’d prepared earlier, giving steve a friendly smile and a tilt of the drink. “be right back.”
you weave your way to bucky until you’re next to him, cheeks pulled as you offer him the large teal mug, index finger over the bump of the ceramic octopus’ eye, pinky grazing one of the tentacles at the bottom.
“hello,” you say.
bucky stares at you. “hi.”
“i made you coffee.” you shake the drink a little. “i hope you like it, it’s completely based on my assumptions.” you chuckle lightly at yourself. “if you don’t, it’s fine.”
bucky’s eyes continue to bore into you, but you don’t falter, continuing to smile with the octopus mug in hand. slowly, his fingers reach to hook around the handle, pulling it to his chest.
“thank you.” he’s gruff as always, but there’s a note of surprise sewn in that you find interesting.
“no problem,” you quip, beginning to head back toward your desk, but you stop yourself, pointer finger in the air as if you’d recalled something. “oh! some of the other agents and i are ordering in from this sushi place that’s supposed to be really good. would you like to join us?”
you can feel genevieve’s stare as you offer it, catch the confused part of bucky’s lips as he mulls it over in confusion.
“...really?” he says finally, shifting on his feet somewhat suspiciously.
you giggle. “of course! we’d love to have you there.”
there’s another brief pause of his intense staring and your intense beaming before he clears his throat. “sure. why not?”
“great! it’s at the conference room on the third floor, see you there!”
bucky isn’t left with much of a response as you turn and walk over to the incredulous look on genevieve’s face.
-
bucky’s grumbling in the elevator next to sam, shuffling his feet as he concentrates on the lowering numbers above the elevator doors, made out of bright white dots underneath smooth glass. sam stares at him, watching him clench his jaw, ocean irises stormy.
“you’re really gonna eat with ‘em?”
bucky grunts in response, rolling his shoulders.
“now, why the hell would you do that?”
he sniffs, tongue swiping at dry lips. sam brightens, dark, squinted eyes widening in annoying realization, mouth pulling into an understanding grin. bucky groans when he says your name.
“‘shoulda known,” sam says, a lilt to his words that makes bucky huff a little sigh.
“she asked.” is bucky’s explanation.
“i ask you for things all the time,” sam complains, stubbornly shoving his hands in his pockets, lips in a wobbly thin line.
bucky feels the wait between five is three is longer than it should be.
“s’what? i gotta be a pretty girl and make some coffee for your grumpy ass?” sam asks. the doors part and bucky exhales in relief, stepping through them but sam’s not finished. sam’s never fucking finished. “is that how i get you to stop eating my fuckin’ ice cream? do some paperwork?” he calls.
bucky flips him the bird, searching for the conference room and your bright smile.
he spots it a few paces away through the window, licking his lips again when he catches your eye. his opportunity to ditch this entire thing is out the window the moment you send him an excited wave with chopsticks between your fingers.
you’re the only one who’s seen him until he pushes open the door and all eyes turn to him, conversation dying on every tongue once soaked in teasing jests. bucky looks around the room, nose twitching. the tension is palpable and he thinks he should leave.
then you cheer his name, bouncing off your seat to wrap your fingers around his bicep, tugging him to the chair next to yours. he spies eyes widening and thinks the agents are being a little dramatic. “i didn’t think you were coming,” you admit.
“‘told you i would,” he reminds gruffly, scanning shocked features. “did they know i was?”
“what? oh.” you wave a hand dismissively at your coworkers. “the more the merrier. paula invited her yoga instructor once.”
it’s still tense, chopsticks frozen around sushi as if unsure what to do next, but you’re either oblivious to it or you don’t care, chattering on with explanations about the different types of sushi available.
“help yourself,” you finish, setting a plate down in front of him. “what were you saying, toby? about last night’s yoga?”
toby eyes bucky uneasily, biting down on his bottom lip uncertainly. “uh. just saying how much of a weirdo this instructor was.”
everyone nods stiffly.
“right! now i’m glad i didn’t take you up on your invitation,” you laugh. “my dog makes a great yoga buddy, though, so it worked out.”
“yeah,” patricia pipes up hesitantly, eyes still flickering from bucky to you. “how is quack?”
you beam so brightly you put down your food. “he confuses the sit and roll over commands, so if i tell him to sit, he’ll roll over, but if i tell him to roll over, he lays down. not sure why but i love him anyway.”
“what’ll make him sit?” bucky asks, all knitted brows and gruff voice.
“down,” you reply, then raise a finger. “but also, strangely enough, if i say the word ‘duck.’”
bucky grunts, shoving one of the pieces of sushi you recommended to him into his mouth.
the silence that follows is long and uneasy.
“my hamster died yesterday,” genevieve blurts suddenly. you send her a confused look as the other agents say their quiet apologies.
bucky chews slowly. “sorry for your loss.”
“thanks,” genevieve replies. she clears her throat. “i should go… train. for the… mission.”
“right,” patricia says, standing too. “yes. we’re very dedicated agents, sergeant.”
bucky wrinkles his nose and she shifts awkwardly. “...sir.”
toby packs up, too, sending your pout a quick smile. “i’ll see you later,” he offers, inhaling sharply before he ducks his chin at bucky. “um, it was… very nice eating with you, sergeant bucky barnes, sir.”
they scramble away, leaving only you and bucky in the conference room.
bucky tenses his jaw as you frown.
“think that was because of me, doll.”
“no!” you argue. “there really is a mission. at some point.” a sigh. “i’m sorry, bucky—”
“why? you didn’t do anything, sweetheart. i’m just saying that you should’ve probably expected that—”
“if they knew you—”
“they don’t like me, they’re not gonna know me.” bucky pops a pieve of sushi into his mouth as you look at the door disapprovingly.
“it’s not that they don’t like you,” you contest. “it’s just… you’re so angry all the time—”
“that’s just my face, sweets, i’m not angry.”
“maybe,” you pause. “smile a little.” at his grunt, you poke his side. “just sometimes. as a peace offering,” you tease, then grin brightly as if to show him what to do.
he glowers at you for a moment before sighing, swallowing his food. “fine.” he tries it, lips twitching up into a strained smile.
you wince, patting his cheek gently. “thank you for trying, baby.”
“what? you don’t like my award-winning smile?” bucky jests, beginning to eat again.
“i like it when it’s real,” you retort, tapping his nose with your finger. “you have a very pretty real smile, bucky.”
bucky’s features set again, but his cheeks pink. “thanks, sunshine.” he runs his tongue over his teeth. “sorry you’re stuck eatin’ with me.”
you humph disdainfully. “i love eating with you. and today’s gossip wasn’t even that good, bucky, don’t even worry about it.”
“really? nothing about joanie’s date?”
“nope.”
“what about genevieve’s email admirer? toby’s secret child?”
“hasn’t messaged in a week, is his cat, i think.”
“well then. i guess we’d be the best gossip today, huh?”
“we’d always be the best gossip, bucky, please,” you condemn.
“we probably are. little sunshine eating with the big bad wolf. they’re probably sayin’ i’m taking your food or something.” bucky laughs.
you beam, cocking you head at him.
“what?” he asks.
“i told you your real smile was real pretty.”
bucky grunts, leaning over to press a kiss to your hair. “sunshine, you’re really ruining my reputation here.”
“you like it,” you badger.
“i do,” bucky hums, scanning your face with quick blue movements. you’re so bright and pretty, light in a way that makes him feel dirty for daring to kiss his shadows over your sunshine. he growls in frustration, catching the concerned knit of your brows before he dives to kiss you. “i really do.”

Could I request 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 + 𝐢 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 with either Steve or Eddie, and maybe reader is genuinely convinced a scary movie is based off real events, and she's upset and confused why no one else is as upset as her, so Steve/Eddie comfort her, and make her feel better about it <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
luveline's halloween party ♡
tysm for ur request!! eddie x ditzy!fem!reader
To be fair to you, the movie is shot like a documentary, and the actors are good. Without explaining it, Eddie can understand why you've assumed the worse. Though he doesn't realise for a while that that's what's even happened.
You're a snuggly creature by nature; if you're not nestled into his side you're threading your fingers through his hair, or stroking up and down the lengths of his arm, or even sitting at his feet with your cheek pressed to his thigh. However it is, he's just happy to be close to you. You're half in his lap at this point.
Eddie's trying to ask if you wanna be fully in his lap when your breath catches and your eyes move from the screen to his shoulder instead.
It's not unusual for you to react strongly to movies, fictional or not, so he gives a small laugh and kisses the top of your head, endeared by how sensitive you are.
"Eds, can we turn it off?" you ask quietly.
He pats your back. "It's the best part! Everybody gets rescued in a little bit."
You shake your head. "It's horrible. Imagine that happening to-" Your entire body shudders. "I don't even wanna think about it. How can they live through that?"
It is harrowing. But your reaction seems a little tiny smidge over the top.
"It's alright," he says, laughing.
You blink at him. "How doesn't this upset you?"
"'Cause it's not real?"
Your expression skips, sad to happy to sad again. "It isn't?"
"Oh, sweetheart," Eddie says, tugging you into his chest with a giddy grin.
You poor thing, you'd thought the movie was a documentary. It explains how ruffled your feathers are, and he feels guilty for not understanding it sooner. He gets a hand around the back of your neck and squeezes gently as he pulls your head back from the collar of his shirt.
"It's not real, I swear. It's supposed to be a found footage thing. They're making it look real on purpose, but they're all actors and corn syrup. Practical effects."
You sigh in relief. "Really?"
"Mm-hm."
"Oh." Your embarrassed laughter is a treat because you rarely get embarrassed, you're the mischievous type through and through. You huff out of your nose, hands clasped loosely at the crooks of his elbows. "Well then."
"Well then," he repeats, squishing your cheek in his hand.
"Ugh." Your face dissapears into the crook of his neck. He doesn't blame you for it. This is enough material to tease you for months.

Waterproofed
Created: 15.09.2021
Finished: 10.02.2022
Edited: 08.10.2023
Age: 16
Word count: 752
Warnings: Drowning, Pools
Request: No
Note: This is the first ever story I wrote for the Marvel fandom and it's based on a joke I read 4 years ago.
It was a normal day off at the compound for the Avengers.
Natasha was sitting on the couch with Steve and Clint beside her, Tony at the table, reading something on his laptop.
Thor was probably in Asgard, but most likely in the kitchen eating pop tarts.
Bruce in his lab.
And you decided that going for a swim in the outside pool with Bucky was a good idea.
You were so wrong.
Bucky came running into the living area and stopped to catch his breath, while moving his hands up and down.
Your mom, Natasha, was the first one to understand that something was wrong.
She was a spy after all.
"James?" Natasha questioned a still-silent Bucky, raising her eyebrow, as she turned to face the man
"Bucks? What's wrong, buddy?" Steve asked his best friend, concerned
"Hey, guys. Y/N is in the pool and I don't think she's waterproofed." Bucky tried to explain the best he could in his panicked state, only to gain confused looks from everybody in the room
Silence settled over the room before Tony spoke.
"I think he's trying to say that Y/N is drowning." Tony said absent-mindedly, not raising his head from whatever he was doing on his laptop
"Oh." The red-haired ex-assassin simply said, turning her attention back to the TV
It took Natasha three whole seconds to realize what Tony had said.
"SHE'S WHAT?!" The woman yelled and shot up on her feet
"Affirmative, Miss Romanoff. It appears that your child is indeed struggling to stay above the water." F.R.I.D.A.Y. confirmed
Your mother sprinted towards the outside pool, faster than she had in her whole life, with the boys hot on her heels.
When Natasha saw you just floating above the water with your face down, her heart tightened in her chest.
Steve used his super-soldier speed and reached you faster than the others, jumping in to pull you out.
When the rest of the team finally arrived, Steve was already laying you on the ground.
Your mom threw herself on her knees, next to your head, and she moved the wet hair out of your eyes, with tears in her own, as Steve leaned forward to hear your heartbeat.
Not there.
"Not good, not good, not good." Steve panicked hard
He started CPR and instructed Natasha to blow air through your mouth.
They started to get more desperate when they saw that you weren't reacting.
"Come on, baby." Natasha quietly sniffed "Please."
Just then, you gasped for air and choked on the water that was in your mouth.
Natasha quickly turned you to one side and she sighed in relief.
After catching your breath, you looked around, taking in your surroundings as your mind was still in a hazy state.
As you did your eyes landed on the one person that always made you feel safe.
"Mama." You whispered, your voice weak
Natasha pulled you in her arms and hugged you tightly to her chest "I'm here, baby. You're okay. Everything is okay." A few tears escaped her eyes
She looked over your head at Steve and mouthed 'Thank you', to which he answered with a nod.
"I'm glad you're okay, kid. You kind of scared the shit out of us." Your Uncle Clint said, patting your back "Especially your mom."
"I'm sorry." You muttered, with your head resting on Natasha's shoulder
Your mom took a deep breath and slightly pulled you away to kiss your forehead "What happened, my love?"
"I-I was getting ready to get into the pool when Bucky came and pushed me in a little bit too hard. Then he just laughed, thinking I was joking." You explained before sighing "I guess that he ran to you when he figured it out that I wasn't." And with that, you jumped into your mother's arms again
"Why don't we get you to Bruce for a small check-up? Huh?" The woman smiled and motioned to her best friend to help her lift you
Clint quickly lifted you up and let you support onto him, as he started to lead ypu towards Bruce's lab.
When you and Clint were far enough, the ex-assassin turned to face Bucky, who was ready to run any second.
"We can discuss this." Bucky laughed nervously, raising his hands in defense
Let's just say that Bucky won't push anyone else in a pool for the rest of his life. Natasha made sure he learned the lesson.

After the conversation with Steve, you're confused. You don't understand what Bucky wants and you're getting annoyed.
You're sitting with Natasha in her room ranting to her about the situation.
"I don't understand, Nat! I could've sworn he was flirting back but the next thing I know he's being cold to me. I can't do this anymore.... yes, I know I admitted I loved him, and I do, but I can't keep waiting for him to decide what he wants, I'm not a placeholder. We're not teenagers for fuck's sake, can a grown man not know what he wants and go for it?!"
Nat sighs and gives you a reassuring look "listen, I know you're frustrated but I think he really does feel the same... he just doesn't know how to express his feelings very well....."
"Steve said the same thing but I can't wait around for him. I don't want to feel like I'm constantly walking on egg shells around him. I miss the times when we would just talk for hours and bicker back and forth during our missions.... I think I ruined it by admitting my feelings to him..."
"I just - I can't go on like this... I've dealt with enough uncertainty in my life. For the first time, I actually feel stable, comfortable, safe.... I don't want to ruin this because of my feelings.... especially if he can't express his properly... I'm not going to wait around for him to finally decide one day that he truly does want me. My whole life I've always been the last choice and I don't want that anymore, I want to be chosen first without hesitation. I want that security. I can't live in the unknown anymore..."
As you're ranting to Natasha you don't realise that Steve and Bucky were in Steve's room, besides Nats, and with their super hearing, they heard everything.
Steve looks at Bucky pointedly.
"If you don't grow a pair soon and man up, I will punch you before she does." Steve says angrily.
"Steve I -.."
"I know Buck... I do, but I think it's time you move on from that and let yourself live life. Hydra may have taken your arm but they could never take your heart. It's time you start writing your own story, rather than letting your past prevent you from moving forward." Steve pats Bucky's shoulder as he walks out of his room.
Just as Bucky is about to leave Steve's room he overhears Nat's and Cyber's conversation again.
"I don't know Nat.... maybe I'm moving too fast.. after everything I had to do to survive with Pierce and my parents.... maybe I don't know what love even is... I've never had a real example to follow of love... am I being foolish?"
"No, you're not, Cyber. Your feelings are valid. There's no such thing as a timeline for love. You may not have had an example of true love to follow but you need to follow your heart. Your heart and your gut know what you want. You're stronger than you think, you don't give yourself enough credit. You don't need a man in your life. You've proven that time and time again, but you're choosing to want Bucky in your life and he'll come to that realization soon enough."
"You're right... but I'm not waiting around for him. I want him to tell me how he truly feels. Even if he doesn't feel the same. I just want the truth."
"Fair enough... only time will tell..." Natasha says with a wink.
The girls get up and start heading to the kitchen.
Bucky stands still in Steve's room.
Shit... Steve is right... if I don't figure this out soon I'll lose her... Nat is right too.. she doesn't need me, she wants to have me in her life.
Bucky sighs in frustration and heads to his own room.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later that day, Steve calls the team together for a debreif on a new mission.
As everybody files into the conference room, it doesn't go unnoticed that everyone grabs a seat before you and Bucky can even get into the room, leaving two chairs side-by-side.
You look at Natasha who is smirking while Steve is avoiding Bucky's gaze.
You walk in and plop in the chair, not even glancing at Bucky.
He sighs and looks defeated while Steve just gives him a knowing shrug that says "I told you so..."
"Alright, so new mission. This one involves everyone. We need to infiltrate a Hydra base... the catch is that it's currently active. So, it will be heavily guarded. That's where Cyber comes in mainly." Steve turns to you.
"You're going to have to come with us on the quinjet because Hydra's security is extremely high tech and they have created some sort of technological wall around their base, which prevents any type of outside infiltration. This needs to be done at very close range."
"Okay, sounds good. Nothing I can't handle." you reply.
"One other thing.... since you're the team member with the least field training and self defense training, you're going to have to be paired with somebody to watch your back." Steve continues. He starts shifting a bit uneasily as you stare at him in confusion.
"Okay, fine. I guess I could use the company."
"Perfect, so you and Bucky will stay on the quinjet. Next up is Sam, you'll be -"
Your eyes snap up towards him and widen in shock. Your heart is racing. Steve ignores you and keeps debriefing.
Did he just say Bucky? I specifically asked him not to pair me with him, what the hell?
Somebody kicks your leg under the table and look up to see Natasha smirking at you with a knowing look.
Are Nat and Steve seriously conspiring against me right now? God damn it...
You see Bucky shifting in his seat from the corner of your eyes and you feel him staring at you. You turn towards Steve and pretend to listen to him.
The entire time your mind is swirling with thoughts.
Isn't this going to be awkward? Oh my god, how am I going to focus on the mission with him next to me... he obviously knows my feelings for him... what if I stare at him too long and make him uncomfortable? It's not my fault he's so hot... that stupid arm... and his hair... ugh, this is gonna be impossible. Okay, just push your feelings down. Put your walls up, focus and don't make this weird.
Steve wraps up the meeting and you bolt up out of your seat to get out as fast as possible when Steve calls your name.
You stop in your tracks and turn around to Steve and Bucky waiting for you.
"Hi... what's up?" your heart is racing, you can't get yourself to look at him so you stare right at Steve.
"Are you sure you're okay with being on the field? We need you but if you're not fully ready we'll work around it... I would rather you be ready and focused than fidgety and scared." Steve says to you.
You see Bucky shifting in your peripheral vision.
"Yeah totally. I'm good to go, not a problem." You force a smile.
Steve sighs and gives you that look.
"Is that it? or can i go?" you ask impatiently.
"Yeah, that's it...." Steve says. You see him nudge Bucky's arm as you turn around and walk away.
"Hey, Cyber, wait...." You hear Bucky call after you.
Fuck... just breathe and be neutral. No emotions, wall up.
"Yes, James?" you reply with a thin smile.
You see Bucky's eyes flash with hurt when you call him James.
"Um, listen, about the mission, I don't -" Bucky starts but you interrupt him.
"No, all good man. We're team mates, we'll work together on this. I'll do my thing on the computer and you just stand guard. Good?"
Bucky sighs "Yeah, I guess."
You turn and walk away.
Why did I say that? 'We're all good man?', what am I a frat boy? Oh my god I think I just made it worse..... what is wrong with me.
Bucky watches you walk away as Steve approaches him.
"What happened? I thought you were going to talk to her and settle this. I planned this whole thing and you let her walk away?" Steve asks incredulously.
"I tried Steve, she wouldn't even let me talk. She just interrupted me and walked away... I really messed up didn't I?" Bucky says defeated.
"You'll have time to sort this out on the mission. We leave soon and you'll be alone together for a while. Just be honest with her." Steve says as he pats him on the back and walks to his office.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The quinjet lands near the Hydra base and the rest of the team gets up to leave. You and Bucky stay behind as you set up your computers.
You bid them goodbye as the doors close and you're left alone together.
You're mindlessly typing away on your computer, just to be distracted. It's so silent all you can hear is the clacking noises of your keyboard.
You hear Bucky approach you slowly and your heart rate picks up. You're looking straight at your computer screen.
Bucky grabs a seat next to you and you both sit in silence.
You don't know what to do, and your natural reaction to awkward silences is to laugh so you start giggling to yourself while staring at your computer.
Bucky looks at you questioningly "What's so funny?"
"Um no nothing, it's just so quiet....I'm used to it always being loud and busy around you guys"
Bucky chuckles, "Yeah, that's fair... especially Sam whenever I beat him at poker."
You laugh at the memory of Sam stomping around and claiming Bucky is cheating as he takes all of his poker chips from his stack.
"I miss hearing your laugh..." Bucky says quietly.
You freeze when he says that and your heart rate picks up again. Your throat feels dry as you swallow and shift in your seat.
"Listen, it's okay really, you don't have to say anything, we can just pretend it never happened -" You start rambling until Bucky cuts you off
"Stop, just listen to me, please?" Bucky says, holding your hands.
You stop rambling and look up at him.
"You never gave me a chance to reply. I'm sorry I didn't run after you, I was shocked and scared. I was shocked because I didn't think you could ever feel the same way as I did. I was scared because I haven't felt like this towards anyone in years. I know I was wrong and stupid. I liked you the second I met you and your fiery attitude. I fell for you when I saw you survive and fight for your life. You're unbelievably strong and courageous. I feel so seen and heard when I'm with you. I know what I want, and I want you. I love you, Cyber."
You stare at him in shock.
" Bucky I -"
Bucky presses his lips to yours, softly. You slowly kiss him back once you realised what's happening.
You pull away from eachother, smiling.
"I know you don't need a man in your life, but I'm asking you if you would be willing to let me be yours. Only, if you never call me James again." Bucky says to you.
You smile as you reply "Yes, Bucky"
He pulls you closer into a deep kiss.
Suddenly the doors to the quinjet fly open and you jump away from each other.
"I KNEW IT WOULD WORK! HA! I WIN!" Sam yells to the others outside.
Bucky groans and rolls his eyes, and you giggle.
You see Natasha walk in with a knowing smirk followed by Steve wearing that stupid 'I told you so' look.
"wait... what about the mission? what are you doing here?" you question.
"Oh there was no mission, we just needed a plan to get you two talking... we're literally in the middle of nowhere. Once a good 10 minutes passed by, i figured it was long enough for you to make up.... or make out I should say....and I decided to walk back in." Sam explains.
"I can't believe you guys." Bucky says, shaking his head.
"well it worked didn't it?" Natasha points back at him.
"Okay okay enough bickering. Let's get back to the compound before Tony notices we left without him." Steve says.
Everyone buckles in while you and Bucky sit next to each other. As the jet takes off, you feel his hand ghosting over yours and slowly grab onto it. You squeeze his hand in reassurance, as you smile back to each other.

“Sure! Steve said excitedly with a huge smile on his face. In another universe Eddie never would’ve thought of asking Steve for any kind of help especially when it came to anything that involved romance. Then again everything that’s happened in Eddie’s life so far hasn’t been normal in the slightest so he’ll take this over the past events that’s happened so far.
Eddie started smiling wide when heard what Steve had said. He didn’t expect him to have such a positive reaction to what he was asking for. Eddie reached his arm out to give Steve a pat on his shoulder making him shiver slightly, for a split second Eddie saw Steve’s smile fade a little before it returned to the big bright one that he had on his face previously. Eddie smiled softly at him then looked over to where Robin was standing, she was talking to Dustin and Max about something and Eddie thought she looked so pretty when she waved her hands around when we talked about something, the way her eyes lit up when she was excited, he couldn’t put it into words but she drew him in like a moth to a flame. He didn’t realize he was staring until Steve cleared his throat rather aggressively making Eddie snap out of his thoughts. He looked at Steve who was now standing with his arms crossed and he looked annoyed, the smile from before was completely gone now.
“Take a picture it’ll last longer, Munson.” Steve said bitterly as he rolled his eyes. The change in Steve’s attitude caught Eddie off guard. He genuinely looked pissed but Eddie couldn’t put a finger on what could’ve ticked him off in the middle of their conversation. He brushed it off since it was common for Steve get bitchy for no reason, he had several of those moments at school. So Eddie didn’t pay it any mind.
“My bad it’s just… she’s breathtaking. I kind of feel stupid for not realizing that.” Eddie admitted. He should’ve paid more attention to her throughout their school years together.
“I think stupid would be putting it lightly.” Steve mumbled under his breath. Obviously that wasn’t something Eddie was supposed to hear but he heard it anyways. He furrowed his brows as he looked at Steve, the guy was just fuming at this point.
“What did you say?” Eddie asked with a little bass in his voice. The only reason he was getting mad was because Steve started getting snappy out of no where. Steve kept his arms crossed and shook his head.
“Nothing.“ Steve said waving his hand to dismiss the topic. As much as Eddie wanted to slap that attitude out of Steve he couldn’t, that wouldn’t make him look good in front of Robin so he just bit his tongue. Eddie also had to realize that he’d have to deal with Steve for a little bit just so could make his move on Robin, for now he’ll be nice until otherwise. He smiled brightly at Steve hoping that they could be somewhat friendly towards each other.
Before Eddie could say anything the sound of police cars got everybody’s attention making them turn towards the window that was the back of the boathouse. While the four of them ran to the window Eddie scurried towards the boat that he was laying in for majority of the time he stayed there. Once he got into the boat he threw the tarp over himself and he laid there. So many thoughts ran through his head as he tried to make himself comfortable in the boat, now he had to keep in mind that what was happening outside of this building was attached to him. Eddie couldn’t handle the idea that the reason why everyone in Hawkins was going insane because they believed that there was a murderer running around and all of their fingers pointed to him. In some way, Eddie focusing on Robin made it easier to forget about the chaos that had occurred and that kind of made him want to keep fighting even if there’s a possibility that he may not win in the end. When all of this was over he thought about telling her that she was the light that guided him through the darkness and he imagined both of them laughing at how cheesy that sounded but nonetheless it was true. Even with that in his mind, something kept nagging him.
Eddie truly couldn’t live that dream unless Steve kept his word which Eddie had his doubts about. Maybe it was nothing but Eddie had this feeling that the only reason why Steve was upset all of a sudden was because he started talking about how beautiful Robin was, then again anything could’ve made Steve act the way he did. Eddie stopped thinking about all of that when he heard the sirens die down a little bit and heavy footsteps started making their way towards the boat he was in. The tarp that was on top of him was folded back revealing the four familiar faces that he was used to and not someone who would hurt him.
“Eddie, we’re going to leave for a little bit but we’ll come back here soon okay?” Dustin said in a hurry. Eddie knew that they would come back tomorrow and the likely hood of them coming back later that night while Hawkins was in a frenzy was very far fetched. Eddie nodded his head still despite knowing that he’ll be alone again for several hours.
“Make sure to keep these with you just in case.” Max chimed in quickly as she ran to the other side of the boathouse then running back to place the snacks that they got for him in the little space between him and the boat. He laughed softly before holding the snacks close to him.
“Thank you.” Eddie said softly. His gaze focused on Robin and she smiled at him. Eddie’s heart felt like it was going to explode, he smiled back at her while he started blushing. He had so much that he wanted to say to her but there wasn’t enough time for him to form the right words.
“Like Dustin said we’ll come back for you. Just hang in there until we get back.” Robin reassured him before placing her hand on his and giving it a squeeze. Eddie knew this was her way of telling him everything was going to be alright but the butterflies in his stomach kept fluttering around. He felt like a kid talking to his crush, a feeling that he’s never felt before.
“Robin-“ Eddie tried to talk to her but the sound of more police sirens alerted them and they started moving towards the door. Eddie didn’t have much time to think as he grabbed Steve’s wrist before he could run with the others.
“Steve!” Eddie blurted out while he pulled Steve close. Their faces were inches apart from each other and the blush on Steve was face became noticeable when Eddie started to observe his face. For a second it was almost like he was holding his breath but Eddie could’ve been imagining all of it.
“Y-yeah?” Steve said in a panicked tone but he managed to keep his composure for his own sake. Eddie leaned in close enough to Steve’s ear so he could hear him.
“Make sure that Robin stays safe okay? I don’t want anything bad to happen to her.” Eddie whispered. When he pulled away he expected to have a mutual understanding with Steve or at least show some type of reassurance that he would make sure to do that for Eddie. Instead he got a look from Steve that was way different from the look he saw earlier, almost like he was hurt. Steve opened his mouth to say something but he bit his lip. After a few seconds Steve finally settled on something to say.
“Okay. I will.” Steve said softly then giving a half smile. This would be the first time that Eddie has ever seen Steve genuinely smile and he had to admit that a smile suited him a lot more than the angry look. Eddie smiled at him and now both of them seemed to be on the same page when it came to the situation at hand.
Steve gave him a nod before he ran with the others and Eddie was left alone with his thoughts. He rubbed his hands over his face after as he let out a groan. Eddie had no idea how life turned into this for him but there wasn’t much he could do about it. Eddie went over all the things that’s happened in the past few days and he couldn’t process it all at once. He didn’t know what was going to be next for him if somehow he could avoid the narratives that were being put on him and now he had to focus on getting his soulmate to fall in love with him with the help of her best friend who was most definitely going to be a pain in the ass. The longer Eddie had all of this stuff in his mind the more he kept overthinking every possible outcome, taking him to a place he hasn’t been in awhile. He shook his head to get out of his own mind and he took advantage of the snake that were by his side. When midnight hit Eddie laid still under the tarp while his back was getting indents from the hard surface of the boat, not to mention how extremely cold the boathouse was and the tarp was in no way shape or form a blanket that could warm him up. Eddie closed his eyes trying to ignore the rustling of the tree branches that would hit the boathouse every once in awhile and he had to stop himself from jumping after every sound he heard. He was absolutely terrified when it came down to it but he would never admit it, the only thing he could do was try to keep going.
Eddie just hoped that the one he was meant to be with would be there waiting for him on the other side.

weekly lineup
for @stonyauniverse january week 3 // "nice try, canon"
for @warmandfluffybingocards // square: "free space"
marvel cinematic universe. tony stark/steve rogers. rated g. 1k.
canon-divergent au where steve and tony are still alive to lead the next generation of avengers.
— — —
Tony’s favorite thing about spending Sunday mornings in the Compound was watching Steve post the weekly team lineup.
“Alright, no pushing and shoving, this’ll be up here all week. You can take a look at it whenever you need to, okay?” Steve reminded everybody, though his gaze drifted pointedly toward the kids—the newer recruits—who were practically bouncing in their seats out of pure excitement. Slowly, Steve grabbed a Mjlonir-shaped magnet and stuck the roster in its usual spot on the fridge, backing a few steps away before he said, “Okay, it’s up! Go ahead, everyone. And remember — if your name’s at the top, you’re on-call this week, if you’re at the bottom, you’re on the reserve team, and if you’re not up there at all, you’ve got the week off.”
The words were like a starting shot, and despite Steve’s warning to take things slow, Peter, Kamala, and Kate all made a mad dash towards the list. Honestly, Tony was surprised none of them had knocked over any of the kitchen stools in their haste, though it seemed like Peter nearly tripped over himself on the way, his spidey-senses catching him just in time.
Steve looked over at Tony as if to say, can you believe this? even though he’d witnessed this exact scene play out countless times before. Tony just smiled behind his mug of coffee and offered a fond shake of his head to reply, I know.
It was a good system they had going on. Now that the rotating lineup of Avengers was growing every day, only about half the team needed to be on-call anymore, barring an actual end-of-the-universe level threat. And with so many newer, younger team members coming in, it only made sense to pair each of them up with a more experienced, more seasoned pro to learn the ropes. They trained together, they went on missions together, they learned from each other, and the next week, the newbies were partnered with someone else to repeat the process. It allowed them to hone different skills with different mentors, and see which personalities and powers meshed well together.
It was certainly working out well so far, Tony had to admit. The newer Avengers were already starting to show a ton of improvement from all of the practice and mentorship, and the older ones benefited immensely from the occasional time off. Even if all the gods and super-soldiers around here weren’t slowed down by age, they still could use the rest — missions could be just as emotionally and mentally draining as they were physically, sometimes even more so.
In any case, it sure made things a lot easier than being on-call—and on edge—24/7. Besides, there was something to be said about having a general work-life balance, something that Tony wouldn’t have even dreamed of back in the early days. Now, he was finding that it wasn’t so bad, taking some time for himself. For the people he cared about.
He exchanged another glance with his co-captain.
“Come on, move over, I wanna see!” Kamala said, stuck peering over Peter and Kate’s shoulders, the shortest of the three of them.
“Aha! I got Natasha!” Kate said, finally moving out of Kamala’s way to give Nat a high-five.
“I’m with Thor!” Kamala announced, once she found her name on the roster. “Oh, this is gonna be so cool!”
"I've got Captain Rogers!" Peter glanced at Tony with a bright grin. “And— did you see, Mr. Stark? You're not up here this week!”
“I did see, Mr. Parker,” Tony replied with a laugh. “I made that list, y’know. Well, helped make it. If I had it entirely my way, Steve and I would both be getting the week off.”
His pointed look was met with a fond eye-roll, as Steve settled into the seat next to him. “We will, soon enough,” he promised, giving Tony a gentle pat on the arm in consolation. “Once we know that the trainees can handle themselves without us.”
“Hey, c’mon, give us some credit,” Kate scoffed. “We’ve been doing great so far!”
“She’s got a point there, Cap,” Natasha chimed in. “It won’t be the end of the world if you and Tony take a vacation. And if it is, we’ll call you back in.“
“Yeah, we’ve got things covered,” Kamala said confidently.
But before anyone else could offer up their two cents on the matter, the alarm went off overhead. Over the speakers, Maria Hill announced, “We’ve found a hidden HYDRA base operating out of the Catskills. All on-call team members and trainees report to the Quinjet immediately.”
Steve stood back up, just as the rest of the team turned their attention to him, waiting for orders. “Alright, Avengers, if you wanna prove something, now’s the time. Let’s give it our best out there,” he said, gaze softening as he looked over the newer recruits, then his husband. “And depending on how it goes, we can reconsider next week’s roster.”
Tony’s expression brightened, and he couldn’t help but lean in for a brief kiss, ignoring all of the feigned gagging from the rest of the team. When he pulled back, it was with a dazzling, determined smile. “Well, you heard him, everyone — suit up and head out! It’s time to kick some ass!”
Steve gave Tony a nudge. “You wanna do the honors?”
“Oh, no, you’ve got it, sweetheart. It’s your week, anyway.”
The anticipation in the room was nearly palpable as Steve cleared his throat. “Avengers, assemble!” he called, and everybody moved at once, rushing to get ready.
As always, the kids were the first ones out the door.

today i discovered febuwhump, and idk how many of these i will write, but i wrote one for today.
so here’s a short fic about bucky and clint for the prompt “difficulty breathing.” it’s not particularly whumpy, so i’m not sure it qualifies, but we’re all doing our best out here.
if anyone has any requests for the other prompts, send them in.
- - -
They lose Bucky in Alaska, which is bullshit, because Clint warned everyone that they should’ve let him stay home. “Fucking Alaska,” he says, to no one, to the inquisitive squirrel in the tree he passed half a mile back. Alaska, so close to Russia that it used to be Russian territory, snow-infested, grizzly-riddled, bleak, brutal, cold. Alaska.
They’re here chasing down some Hydra holdout, spending their free time unofficially avenging through a hitlist Steve doesn’t like calling a hitlist. Two days ago, as Clint reviewed the general typography of the situation, studied potential sightlines, prepared a packing list of all his favorite base layers, he’d said, “Maybe Bucky stays home, huh?”
And Steve, of course, had whirled around like a scandalized meerkat, and Bucky had sulked in the corner like someone just forcefed him a wheelbarrow of rancid lemons, and Nat patted him on the shoulder and gave him a look like You’re right, and nobody cares.
And now Barnes has fucked off into the wilderness, and Clint’s going after him because the others are busy Sticky Bandit-ing their way through Home Alone Hydra’s inventive series of booby traps, and Clint, because he didn’t grow up in Brooklyn or a bunker or fucking Manhattan, is somehow the designated wilderness expert on the team.
At least he’s been spared the indignity of nearly getting obliterated by a deadfall in the woods. Tony seems to be taking that incident fairly personally.
“That’s what I’m saying about Alaska,” Clint says, to the rock he’s passing. “Everybody’s got fuck all to do up here.”
Death pits, with hand-sharpened stakes. Christ.
It’s the mountains, he thinks, and the height of the trees. The way the landscape looms and shades and suffocates. Same reason so many serial killers ooze up from the undergrowth in the Pacific Northwest, like creepy little murder mushrooms feeding on death in the dark.
Clint’s from good, wholesome country, the far west of Iowa, where the land has the grace to lie flat and let you get a good look around. Not a damn thing sneaks up on you back there. But here, in the Godforsaken Saint Elias Mountains, even the air is hard to find.
The altitude sickness kicked in about three miles back. He’s got a headache like his skull’s imploding, and he keeps reaching up to tug at his coat and the layers of shirts beneath, trying to break free from the building pressure around his throat.
He hated the stupid spindly stretched-out trees until he left them, moved from forest to tundra, and then it was like the trees kept all the air with them. “Baby, come back,” he mutters, really leaning into the stupid, dizzy way he feels, luxuriating in getting dumber the higher up he gets, because the only thing up here that’s going to kill him is Barnes, and Barnes could do that at any damn elevation he wanted.
Well, maybe there’s bears. Probably there’s bears. But he feels pretty good about his odds against most of them.
Clint tries to remember which bears are endangered. One of the other STRIKE teams got in serious shit once for annihilating a nesting pair of whooping cranes during an emergency landing in Texas, and Clint doesn’t want to end up with that kind of note in his file.
Clint Barton, Avenger, known enemy to the animals.
Anyway, he’s not overly worried about the bears. He’s carrying enough firepower to crater several of them into the side of this mountain, and he’ll lie about it later if he has to, say it was whichever type isn’t endangered.
Used to be, he never lied on a SHIELD form. Since Coulson died, it hasn’t seemed to matter.
“Shit,” he says, suddenly breathless, and he slides into a crouch, chest to knees, heart beating like he’s been feeding his lungs through a straw. He wonders about his aim, about what this dizzy lightheaded feeling will do, but he doesn’t worry about it much.
If it’s Barnes coming after him, he’s dead anyway. If it’s a bear, a centimeter or two of variance isn’t going to matter much.
“What are you doing?”
That’s Barnes, of course. Appearing outta nothing, like the ghost of failed missions past.
“Fuck’s sake,” Clint tells him. And then, half-laughing, “I’m here to rescue you.”
Barnes crouches down in front of him. He’s always a little wild-eyed when the target’s Hydra, but the desperation on him now is quite the throwback. Clint hasn’t seen that kind of fear in months. “‘Rescue me,’” he repeats. “You can’t breathe.”
Clint rolls his eyes. He can breathe just fine. “Made it this far.”
Barnes nods, slow, and then tips his head. “Yes,” he says. “How’d you find me?”
Clint scoffs. It’s a real allocation of scarce resources, that scoff, but he commits to the things that matter. “Yeah, maybe you don’t need oxygen, but supersoldiers still leave footprints.”
“Barely,” Barnes says. “And I need oxygen.”
“Barely,” Clint says, just to be an asshole.
Barnes’ stern almost-scowl breaks apart, splintering with a quickfire smile, and then he’s Bucky again.
Steve wouldn’t get it. Neither would Tony. Both of them, they’ve been remade, but never unmade.
Hydra, tundra, cold. They should’ve left Bucky at home.
“It’s not that I think you can’t handle it,” Clint says. He takes a break in the middle for a quick gasp at the useless cotton candy air. “Just maybe I kinda hate that you think you have to.”
Bucky shrugs. If the cold bothers him, he’s forgotten that he’s allowed to show it. He squints toward the skyline and then tips briefly into Clint, shoulder-to-shoulder, before he hauls him to his feet. “Then let’s go home,” he says.
They should check on the others. But, judging from the radio silence and the plume of smoke rising in the southwest, they aren’t needed.
“Yeah,” Clint says, leaning into him. “Let’s go home.”

Reunited?
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Reader Summary: Y/N went with the Byer's clan to California for college and comes back to Hawkins with the Cali crew after everything goes down. Will they reunite with their boyfriend Eddie? Word Count: 2.3k Warning: Vomiting
Also I haven't written in a while so hope this is good!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was sitting in the back of the Surfer’s Pizza van staring out the window as we got closer and closer to Hawkins. It had been a hell of a few days and not knowing if Max is OK has been driving me crazy. El will not talk about it, she has barely talked much in the past 48 hours, understandably.
It had been a while since I’d been back in Hawkins, a year in fact. I had left to go with Joyce and the rest of the Byers clan to California since I had been living with them. I had to leave behind my boyfriend, and we’ve been trying hard to stay connected with each other, but it’s been hard with me starting College and him trying to graduate high school. I missed Eddie and last I heard from El, there was someone named Eddie involved in everything going on back in Hawkins.
My eyes focused on a sign in the distance, I perked up a bit recognizing it as the ‘Welcome to Hawkins’ sign. I started fiddling with the necklace around my neck, a wave of nerves coming over me at the thought of seeing everybody. Anxiety coursed through me as I wondered if all my friends had made it out alive.
“We going to the Wheelers?” I asked no one in particular. The first words being said for hours startled everyone. Jonathan, who was behind the wheel, nodded in reply.
“We’ll be there within the next 30 minutes.” I nodded and continued staring out the window as the town of Hawkins passed me by. There were holes in the ground everywhere, people flooded outside of the school with a sign about helping those affected by the earthquake. I let out a shaky breath as I looked over the crowd of people hoping to see a face I recognized.
We pulled up outside of the Wheeler’s residence and I took note of everyone that was around. Steve and Robin were helping Nancy pack Steve's car with boxes. Dustin was speaking to Mrs. Wheeler beside Steve’s car. No sign of Lucas, Max or Erica and worst of all. No sign of Eddie, yet.
“Cheer up dude.” Argyle spoke up from the passenger seat. “Your boyfriend might be somewhere else.” I hadn’t noticed that the younger ones had already stepped out of the car.
“Yeah besides, what would he be doing at Nance’s house anyways?” Jonathan piped up. They had good points. It would be odd of him to be there considering the crew that was there, him not being particularly close to Steve or Robin. They both left the car while I contemplated what they said. I took a deep breath and left the car. I passed by the few reunions happening and made my way over to Robin and Steve, wrapping them up in a group hug.
“I’m glad you guys are OK.” I whispered. Robin, not being much for physical attention, awkwardly patted my back while Steve tightened his grip on me.
“I know you guys might not know this, but” I trailed off, pulling back from the hug. “do you guys happen to know if Eddie is alright?” Steve and Robin shared a look, a melancholy expression taking over their faces as they shook their heads.
“We haven’t seen him since everything went down.” Robin muttered. “Sorry.”
“It’s alright, didn’t expect you guys to just... thought I’d check.” I mumbled.
I felt a hand land on my back. I turned my head to see Nancy looking at me, the way Nancy always does when she’s trying to figure someone out. I gave her a small smile and pulled her into a side hug.
“You OK?” she asked lowly. I nodded against her shoulder. As I pulled away from that hug, I heard El talk about Max. I looked over as Dustin explained that she was in the hospital. I walked over to Dustin and ruffled his hair in greeting. Dustin looked over to me and it seemed like his shoulder’s got heavier. He focused his eyes back on Will and El as I saw tears starting to form in the corner of his eyes. My mind wandered back to Eddie as they continued to talk about Max’s condition. A sinking feeling present in my gut, no one could or would tell me of Eddie’s condition, but the looks on their faces say that they know something.
“Are you coming man?” Argyle said as he waved his hand in front of my face. I blinked and looked around to see everyone piling into different cars. Steve, Robin and Dustin are all piling into Steve’s car while the rest are piling into the van.
I made my way over to the van and climbed in, taking my seat between Will and Argyle. Nancy in the front with Jonathan and Mike and El occupying the seats in the middle.
“Where are we going?” I asked Will.
“We’re going to see Max.” I nodded and settled further into my seat.
Tumblr media
The elevator ride was quiet, almost suffocatingly quiet. No one knew what to say and everyone was going through different emotions. The only one that wasn’t majorly affected was Argyle, mainly because he didn’t know Max, though he wasn’t his normal cheery self either. We exited the elevator and looked for the room number the receptionist told us.
I followed in the room behind El, Mike and Will and peeked around the three teens. My throat constricted as I saw Max on the hospital bed. She looked... so weak. Lucas let go of Eleven and spotted me. I gave him a weak smile and wrapped him in a hug.
“I’m sorry sweetie.” I said as I tightened my hug. I looked around him and saw Erica sitting in a chair in the corner of the room being quiet, which was very unlike her. I let go of Lucas and went to sit on the arm of the chair she was on. She leaned against my side as I put my hand on her shoulder. I looked over at the side table, there was a newspaper on it with Eddie’s face peeking out from a folded page. I squinted my eyes, trying to make out what the article was.
I stood up and walked over to the newspaper and gasped.
CULT LEADER KILLS CHEERLEADER
Eddie’s school photo looked up at me. I felt sick. There’s no way Eddie would’ve done this. I numbly walked across the room and out of the door, ignoring my friends questions as I left.
“Hey amiga.” Argyle said from his place on the floor as I walked out of the room. I ignored him and walked straight to the trash can heaving into it.
“Oh shit” I heard Argyle scrambling up off the floor to rush over to me and began rubbing circles on my back. I heard multiple footsteps running towards me. I could hear Argyle talking and another voice answering him. His hand came off my back and was replaced with a smaller one. I finished heaving and sat back into the chest of the person behind me.
“It’s going to be OK.” Nancy muttered running her hand over my forehead. Jonathan came into my field of sight looking very concerned and holding out a water bottle. I grabbed the bottle as he grabbed the newspaper that was still clutched in my hands and looked at the article on the front page. His eyebrows shot up and he read through it. I took a heavy swig of the water and shifted to look at Nancy.
“Did he...” I couldn’t bring myself to finish the sentence. She gave me a small smile and shook her head.
“No.” she said firmly. “Eddie did not do this.” I breathed out a sigh of relief, I already knew he wasn’t capable of something like this but hearing someone else, someone who doesn’t know him like I do, also say what I am thinking took a huge weight off my shoulder. I looked up from the floor and saw the kids looking at me from the door of Max’s room, concern etched on their faces.
“I’m OK guys. I’m just going to go sit in the van.” I moved to stand, Nancy and Jonathan helping me up.
“Come on dude, I’ll come sit with you.” I nodded and followed Argyle out of the hospital.
“We’ll be out soon.” Nancy called from behind us.
Tumblr media
Me and Argyle sat in the car in relative silence. The radio was being played at a low volume as the rest of the crew piled in the car. El took a seat beside me and leaned her head on my shoulder with Mike settling in on the other side of her.
I grabbed hold of her hand as we settled back into our seats in the van after visiting Max. I gave it a gentle squeeze, hoping she’d look over at me. I knew this whole thing with Max was really tearing her up. She continued staring forward, but she gave my hand a squeeze back.
We were on our way to Hopper’s old cabin, a safe spot for us to hide El. Again, I wondered where Eddie was. I hoped he was OK but the apology and sympathetic look that I received from Lucas makes me think he might not be. After seeing the article in the newspaper about Eddie, and how he was being accused of murder. I had little hope that I’d get to see Eddie again. I began to chew on my nails, a habit I picked up on since the beginning of this shit show, and let my eyes shift out of focus.
The old cabin came into view, a lot quicker than I expected it to. Nancy shifted in her seat and turned around to face us.
“There’s someone else that will be staying with Eleven here” She explained to us. I looked in her eyes and she quickly shifted them away. Strange. I quirked an eyebrow up at Will who was sitting across from me. He shrugged his shoulders at me and got ready to exit the van. I narrowed my eyes at the scene ahead of us. Man, that cabin is in rough shape.
“I get that we gotta hide Supergirl, and all but this isn’t exactly a Fortress of Solitude, man.” Argyle exclaimed. “It’s more like a Fortress of Grodiness.” Nancy huffed.
“Come on guys seriously,” she walked around the counter. “I’ve seen Mike’s room look worse than this.”
“Ah, brutal, dude.” Argyle said looking over at Mike who looked like he had just finished sucking on a lemon. I let out a small laugh and turned back towards Nancy who was now opening the doors of the pantry.
“And, voila, cleaning supplies.” Nancy said as she plopped a container down onto the kitchen counter filled with various supplies. We all chose an area and set to fixing this place up. Mike and Will were cleaning up the living area, Nancy and Jonathan were boarding up the broken windows, Eleven had taken a bag and trudged her way over to one of the rooms and God knew where Argyle managed to sneak away to.
I set a bucket of water on the floor beside the wall and got started on wiping down the walls. A year of uninhibitedness and holes in the roof sure did a number on this place. I could hear rumbling as it sounded like more cars showed up. I popped my head up to look out the window and saw Steve’s car pull up with an unmarked black car that suspiciously looked like it belonged to the government. I caught Jonathan’s eyes and narrowed them. He shook his head in confusion and turned to Nancy.
I stood up and followed Mike and Will outside. Steve, Robin and Dustin got out of the car. Dustin remained at the car door talking to someone in the car, but Steve and Robin made their way towards us. In the black car out stepped Joyce and Hopper, I let out a sigh of relief seeing the former police chief alive and well after what happened last year. I watched Joyce hug her sons as Hopper passed by me clapping me on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry kid, we’ll figure something out.” I looked at him strangely and he pointed towards Steve’s car and then turned to walk inside the cabin, presumably to go see El. A sense of confusion washed over me as I looked over to Steve’s car. Steve had appeared beside me and nudged me. I looked over at him in disbelief; he nodded his head towards the car.
“Someone you should see.” I whipped my head back to the car as I saw Eddie step out. Eddie was alive, he was OK. Eddie hadn’t noticed me yet, talking animatedly with Dustin. I could feel a smile on my face as I said his name. His eyes met mine and he grinned.
“Hey sweetheart.” I let out a choked sob as I flew down the driveway and into his arms, almost knocking us down onto the ground. I could feel him chuckling as he held onto me tight.
“I am never letting you out of my sight again you hear me, Edward Munson.” I said making my point by stabbing my pointer finger in his chest. Eddie was looking down at me with a dopey smile on his face. His hand came up to rest on the side of my neck which stopped my ranting.
“I love you sweetheart.” He whispered before leaning down and placing his lips on mine. I kissed back softly before pulling away, pressing my forehead to his.
“I’m serious Eddie. Never.” He nodded and wrapped me back up in a hug.
“Promise.” He whispered against my neck.

I’m just imagining that Billy’s finally free of his father’s clutches; he’s gone to jail. The Mind Flayer is gone. Max was invited to the Byers for what they called a family dinner. But what didn’t make sense was that people unrelated to them were there? The little Byers’s friends and big Byers’s girlfriend. Oh, and the Police Chief. And Harrington. Basically everyone who hated him, great.
Except for that weird girl El. Who helped him more than he can ever say.
Max said she wanted to go, and Billy had no problem with that; there wasn’t a horrendous ‘curfew’ to be home by anymore. There wasn’t going to be any slurs and punches and throws and things (Billy) thrown around if they were late anymore. No skipping school for injuries or pretending bruises were from someone on the basketball team anymore.
But people were still scared of Billy around town. They knew of his father’s actions and were worried he’d be the same. Or they looked at him with pity as if they had any idea what happened between closed doors.
What used to be unfiltered, flirtatious, and longing stares and empty conversations—now were rapid flashes of glances before scurrying away to the safety of their homes. As if Hawkins was safe. Everybody was too scared to be out on the streets for too long before something in the nights, or god forbid day, swept them off to someplace terrible.
After that summer, more people were afraid. Billy understood. They didn’t, not really. But Billy did. And he was afraid for himself. Of what he could do, now that he saw what that thing did to him without permission. Without fear. Without care. Without a second thought.
So Billy kept his distance when they arrived. Max took off towards the Party, who were all hanging out in the living room. They were setting up the game of D&D or something, but Max watched and pretended to listen. She was pleasantly comforted by their presence. El looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back, and her head dropped to the board game at hand. Nobody else noticed.
Harrington was sitting on the ground next to the kids. Harrington took him by surprise; he wasn’t related to anyone here. He dated older Wheeler a while ago (a year now?), and she was with older Byers. Was he invited by Mrs. Byers? That got Billy’s head scratching.
But then he saw the curly-haired kid named Dustin look back at him and yell something. (It was more of a squawk, but whatever). Max shushed him and apologized to Steve with a smile, and Harrington shrugged her off, softly grinning. Sinclair, little Byers, and little Wheeler asked if he wanted to join, and he calmly said, “Nah, this isn’t my game. You kids go right on ahead.”
The older Byers was cozying older Wheeler on the couch. It was like they were in their own little world. Both of their eyes were glimmering at each other, or maybe that was all the Christmas lights shining from the Christmas tree. No matter what, Billy could tell they were where they wanted to be.
Mrs. Byers and the Chief were huddled in the kitchen arranging everything accordingly. It made Billy charmingly confused that a broad, intimidating man like the Chief was being fussed around by this anxious woman slapping his hand when he took a cookie off the plate. Billy slipped a chuckle but covered it up with a fake ‘clearing of the throat’.
That was when they all realized Billy was there. Time seemed to come to a halting scratch when they saw him. He offered a little wave and small, “Hello.”
The kids mumbled, “Hi, Billy.”
Older Wheeler and Older Byers almost glared at him behind their acknowledgments.
Harrington was more in shock rather than anything else.
Mrs. Byers ran up to him and greeted him with a squeeze of the shoulder.
The Chief took an apple, bit into it, and strode over to him with an unreadable but questioning stare. “How are you tonight, kid?”
“Good, sir. Yourself?”
“Good. Have you tried the cookies yet?”
Billy was frozen. “Oh, um. No?”
“Even better.” He leaned in and patted Billy’s shoulder. “There’s still plenty left.”
“Hopper!” Mrs. Byers exclaimed. “No eating cookies before dinner!”
Billy chuckled when the Chief shrugged and walked back into the kitchen.
A pair of arms wrapped around his waist. A little voice could be heard into his jacket. “Hello, Billy!” Billy looked down and saw a little girl with blonde hair put into two ponytails hiding at his side.
Older Wheeler hopped off the couch and ran towards the little person hugged into Billy’s jacket. She pulled the girl off and got down to her eye level. “I’m so sorry! Holly, you can’t just ran up and hug people like that, it can scare them!”
“But,” her voice squeaked, “we were supposed to say hello with hugs!”
“Yes,” older Wheeler agreed, “but he didn’t see you!”
Billy cleared his throat. “It’s um…it’s okay. She’s all good.”
Older Wheeler looked surprised and relieved that Big Bad Billy wasn’t going to be pissed at her little sister. Her shoulders dropped as she sighed and got back up. Mrs. Byers called her into the kitchen just then. She walked away, with one last glance saying, “Thank you.”
Harrington walked up to the little girl, Holly, and swooped her into his grasp. He said, “Lookie here! Whatcha doin’, Holly? Hm?”
Holly giggled into his chest as she mumbled, “Nothing.”
Seeing Harrington being good with kids was one thing. Harrington being good with little kids made Billy’s heart skip something awful.
Billy’s face flushed as Harrington’s hair fell forward with a soft giggle. Harrington looked up at Billy and then Holly. She reached out towards Billy.
Steve’s eyes went big. “Ope, looks like she wants you to hold her. You got her?”
“Oh, um…I think so?”
“Billy!” Holly exclaimed and leaned forward, almost completely out of Steve’s hold. Billy held his arms out and arranged himself to hold her properly.
Billy looked at Holly as she started messing with her sweater sleeves. He smiled at her and asked, “That better, Holly?”
“Yes!” she laughed and hid in his neck.
“Yeah?” Billy asked in a lighter voice to meet hers.
“Yeah!” Holly leaned forward and hugged her little arms around his neck. Billy was caught off-guard by the gesture.
Harrington hid his smile behind his hand. His eyes softened when he realized Billy was hugging her a little tighter than before.
Billy’s eyes were tearing up faster by the minute. Harrington reached out his hand and wiped away a stray tear with his thumb. They both shared a sad stare.
Because if Billy was crying over the fact a little kid trusted him, even after all of his actions that summer, that wasn’t anybody’s business but his and Harrington’s.

In the Midnight Hour Part 13
And here we go, the last part. The one that took the longest to complete. But it’s done. And I just want to say thank you to anyone that followed this through to the end.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
*
Two Months Later:
It was getting out of hospital day for Eddie. Max was still in physical therapy but she had been out for a couple of weeks.
So they were having a ‘everybody is out of hospital’ party that night. Everyone was invited. Including the remaining members of Hellfire and Corroded Coffin.
There were a couple of them that had moved away due their homes literally going up in smoke, but those that stayed behind, were staunchly on Eddie’s side.
Steve was just grateful that both his and Eddie’s legal troubles had been cleared up. Granted Steve’s problems were more ‘civil’ and not ‘criminal’ in nature, but it had been a headache trying to find out about his parents, the house, his trust fund.
That last one had been the biggest problem. It was still set to activate when he turned twenty-one. Which was still a couple of years away. But if he was going to paying for all the bills of the big ass house he was going to need it.
Or so he thought. It was Nancy who had brought up the government hush money when he was complaining about his legal woes to the older kids when he got out of the hospital.
Turns out, thanks to the mall burning down with him in it, he was a very, very wealthy man. He had even more wealth than both his parents combined. Which he had to be honest made him very uncomfortable.
The party was of course at Steve’s house. Only now it really was his and not his parents.
The Hopper-Byers family were the first to arrive. Joyce had brought her cole slaw even though Steve had told her he had everything covered.
Jonathan just patted his shoulder. “Just go along with it. Besides it’s not a barbecue without it.”
Steve sighed and set it on the counter with the rest of the sides. Steve had been doing a lot of cooking and baking for today. He wanted it to be perfect.
El looked around. “Where’s Uncle Wayne?”
Steve shook his head. “Don’t worry, they’re just probably taking it slow for Eddie. They wouldn’t miss their own coming home party.”
El frowned. “I just assumed that they would be here first.”
Will smiled. “You know Dad has to be early, to get the grill started heating up. We were always going to be the first, remember?”
El sighed. “I forgot.”
“Why don’t you kids get into your swim suits and splash around in the pool while you wait?” Joyce said gently.
Will and El were off like a shot trying to beat each other to the best bathroom to change.
Jonathan just grabbed a soda from the cooler and sat down on one of the pool loungers.
Steve frowned. “Aren’t you going to get in pool, Jon?”
Jon shielded his eyes from the son and grinned. “Maybe later, like after those two have gotten their splashes out of them?”
Just as he said that the two of them came tearing out of the house to jump straight into the pool.
Steve laughed. “You know they aren’t ever going to their zoomies out.”
Jon grinned. “Maybe when they’re our age.”
Hop threw a roll at Jonathan. “You aren’t that old. Sheesh.”
“Whatever you say, old man,” he shot back.
Joyce giggled.
Just then Nancy and Mike came round back.
“Mike!” El and Will called out together.
Mike grinned. “Hey, guys!”
“Hurry up and get changed!” Will shouted.
Mike immediately turned back around and dashed back into the house to do just that.
Nancy just shook her head and went to go sit on Jonathan’s lap and laid her head on his shoulder.
Steve smiled at them. The two of them had been become closer since Steve started dating Eddie. Jonathan gained more confidence and Nancy finally relaxed into their relationship.
Dustin arrived with the Sinclairs and Max. Max was up and walking about but her eyes still made it difficult for her to move around.
“Welcome!” Steve cried, going over to hug all of them.
He whispered to Max, “Do you want to have El help you get to the bathroom or have you got it?”
She thought about it for a moment and then replied, “El please.”
Steve nodded. “Hey, El!” he called out. “Can you show Max where to change. It’s been awhile since she’s been here and doesn’t remember where it is.”
El was out the pool like a shot and was next to her friend in two seconds.
“Come on!” she said cheerfully.
Dustin and Lucas followed close behind, shoving and pushing at each other as they fought over the second best bathroom.
People kept arriving and soon everyone was there but Wayne and Eddie. The food was ready and everyone was eyeing the burgers ravenously.
Steve bit his bottom lip. He didn’t want to tell people to wait, but he also didn’t want Eddie and Wayne to miss out.
But before he could decide one way or the other, they walked through his door.
It took every once of self-control Steve had not to run up to Eddie and kiss him senseless.
But his slow walk up to his boyfriend gave him the opportunity to admire every inch of him.
Eddie was dressed in grey jeans with a black tank top. He had his white sneakers on.
Steve put his hand on Eddie’s waist. “Hey, gorgeous.”
Eddie kissed him in front of everyone. “Sorry I’m late, sweetheart.”
“This idiot just had shower and get himself all dolled up for a certain young man,” Wayne groused as Steve gave him a hug.
“Well I appreciate the effort,” Steve said, eyeing his boyfriend again.
Eddie huffed out a laugh. “Like the smell of disinfectant and Bleach that had seeped into every pore and follicle wasn’t a contributing factor in all that.”
Wayne laughed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Still wanted to look pretty for your boy, though.”
Eddie blushed.
“Come get something to eat,” Steve said. And everyone followed suit.
After everyone had eat their fill and had either lounged around or finally entered the pool, Steve and Eddie were finally able to be by themselves.
“So what’s the final prognosis on your voice?” Steve asked.
“I can harmonize, but lead vocalist is out,” Eddie said bitterly.
Steve curled his hand gently around the scar on Eddie’s throat. “I’m sorry, babe. I’d gladly swap my vocal cords for yours if I could.”
Eddie leaned into the touch. “I know you would, sweetheart. But the important part is that I can talk, I can sing, even if it’ll never be the depth and range I had before, and I’m here with you.”
“I love you, Eds.”
“Love you, too, darlin’,” Eddie said going in for a kiss.
A shadow passed over them and they looked up to see Jeff had came up to them with Eddie’s guitar. The one he thought he had lost in the Upside Down.
“Holy shit, dude!” Eddie cried as he took his baby back. “Where did you find her?”
“Me and Gareth were roped into helping your uncle clean up the old trailer and salvage as much as we could,” he explained, choking back tears. “I found this among the wreckage and got it repaired. And then you came back.”
Eddie stood up and hugged Jeff and then hugged Gareth. “You guys are the best friends a guy could hope for.”
Gareth just grinned. “You know what the toll is, jackass.”
Eddie sat down with the guitar on his knee. He wasn’t quite well enough to play standing for long periods of time.
He started playing Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen but when he got to the first verse, his voice cracked.
He almost stopped playing but Steve started singing the song with Jeff and Gareth adding the backup vocals.
Soon everyone was bobbing their heads and clapping along. When they finally got to the end Gareth and Jeff were nearly doubled over with laughter.
“Holy hell, Steve-o!” Jeff said. “Where the hell have you been hiding that voice, man?”
Eddie looked up Steve, eyes wide and hopeful. “We do need a new lead singer...”
Steve glanced down at Eddie then up at Gareth and Jeff who looked even more hopeful than Eddie.
“I’ll tell you what,” Steve said, hand on his hip. “Give me about half a dozen songs to learn, yours or someone else’s, don’t care. And then I’ll properly audition. If and that is a major if, I’m a good fit, I will happily take over singing duties from Eddie.”
Eddie, Gareth, and Jeff all hugged him.
Steve shrugged them off. “Shoo. I don’t even like metal...” he said shaking his head.
They all laughed.
“We’ll convert you,” Gareth said, a wicked gleam in his eye.
Steve just shook his head and settle back to sit next to Eddie. Seeing him with his guitar again was the perfect ending to all of this.
“I love you, babe,” Eddie said, when Steve put his arm around him.
“I know I’ll always be second to your sweetheart,” Steve teased.
Eddie laughed. “She didn’t save me from Hell, and you did. I’m pretty sure that makes you my number one.”
Steve smiled. “I love you, too, sunshine.”
Eddie just grinned, turning back to his guitar and began to play again. Steve hummed along.
“Not familiar with that one,” he murmured.
“It’s not done yet,” Eddie admitted, shyly. “It’s about a boy that loved deeper than anyone who went to hell to rescue the love of his life.”
“So it’s a play on Orpheus and Eurydice,” Steve said. “And how does it end?”
Eddie cupped Steve’s cheek and drew him in for a kiss. “Happily ever after.”
“The best kind.”
