Dogen I wanna get into rtv But idk where to start Do you hve any tips on where to start to get into them
UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM yes i think i do Maybe
i first got familiarized with the members by watching the among us streams since you can put names to voices and stuff. i also read the tv tropes page (which i kinda dont recommend you look at BCUZ im pretty sure some information is inaccurate. like theres a thing about how miras vtuber avatar mimi is based on miku. which isnt true. trivia page should be accurate though). i think the rollercoaster tycoon 2 streams are also good to watch but maybe after the among us streams
clip compilations are always fun but they do tend to only pull from the same streams. they also tend to pull clips from the more popular members like wayne and scorpy and Sometimes holly. baaulp, gir, and mira stream often and theyre both really funny but people dont rly include them in clip comps so Like if you think theyre funny tune into them live. branch out
theres also stream highlights which are good for if you dont like sitting down for a long time to watch one thing. shoutout to Foster who releases highlights every friday BTW. he just released a highlight vid cutting down the 80 hour sonic subathon streams down to 10 hours (CRAZY)
ALSO ALSO they have a podcast (Where Do We Begin) which i like to listen to when i go for walks and stuff. they talk about whatever and its fuuuunny.... theyre on spotify and probably other podcast websites
OH ALSO ALSO. scorpy does vhs viewingz stream on the last thursday of every month iirc, those will always have a bunch of rtvs members in there ^__^ theyre also fun to watch when ur like eating or something. not really good for listening to in the bg because theyre video based
scorpy also does media share streams sometimes, people just send in music. these usually arent uploaded or available on youtube for copyright reasons but if you catch one live theyre nice. i think the first rtvs stream EVER that i caught live was a scorpy media share stream. ive found nice music in there
other than that im not sure so all i can give are stream recs.. miras neon white streams from a few months ago are good to listen to in the bg, gameclam is funny, faxmas streams are Also good esp the one from i think 2022? 2021? i dont remember tbh. UMM hollys psychonauts 1 and 2 streams, scorpys best buy stream, i think wayne has some roblox streams that are kinda funny. i dont remember the stream name but genius vs antichrist is so fucking funny. MIRAS INSCRYPTION STREAMS ALSOOOO i watched those i think. iirc the gnome commentary streams include explanations of a few inside jokes but dont quote me on that. moupi has a stream archive on youtube. ALSO ALSO ALSO scorpys wall-e speedrun. WAIT ONE MORE miras dbd streams theyre good and that reminded me of waynes dbd egg eating stream. which also reminded me of waynes ai cooking stream which is funny. edited this rq to add that i havent watched all of waynes sonic subathon streams (80 hours? are you crazy?) but the sonic krazy kult segment of one of the streams is SUCH a fun watch PLEASE watch it. its so funny and i dont think you require any prior knowledge on rtvs to enjoy it
thats all i can really think of rn. idk ummm theres an rtvs forum . they have tumblr accounts i think. scorpy and gir have short and rly old videos on their yt channels that are fun to watch if ur bored. "supplemental" content is ur best friend for getting into rtvs lol

✨ content creator year in review ✨
tagged by @alrightyaphroditie @ambivartence @chanrizard love you all <3333 🥺🥺
1. first creation / most recent creation
my very first gifset ever was this one where jaemin freaks out after he realizes he talked about strawberries haha. my most recent set is this one of lee know's eyes :)
2. one of your favorite creations
hmmm honestly, even though they often don't get the most notes (or many at all), my fav creations are actually the ones i make for my moots bc i love seeing them love something made for them 🥺(and seeing them lose it in the tags hahaha) for example, this hyunminsung set; this soft lino set (and the infamous siyuan bias list set i made though i think there have been some new additions in the past month LOL); this changbin set; this tyong set
3. a creation you're really proud of
any of my comp sets!! apple hair lino, glasses lino, bw cap lino, shit lino says, the lino mood sets. i love making them, but they take a while and it's really nice to see the resulting set
4. a creation that took you forever
this lino maniac one took quite a while because i wanted to make all the clips move in sync, sometimes it works on my computer and not my phone so idk if it actually worked lol but had a lot of fun pain making that one
5. the creation that received the most notes
my first linotonin set, i am blown away by it but also maybe not surprised hahaha while we're here i will also plug my linotonin pt 2 and my linotonin in video form lol in case anyone needs a little linotonin in their life rn
6. a creation you think deserves more notes
like kass and sa and siyuan have all already said better, i don't think i necessarily deserve any notes because we're all here screaming about kpop in our little corners of the internet so it's not that deep lol, i'm glad if people like my sets and it brings them joy like it did for me to make them but i make sets because i want to <3 though i certainly appreciate the nice tags that people leave of course
that being said, i am still so shocked that this set received so many notes, like I GET WHY but i truly was just putting some random clips of lino that i liked from that skz talker hahaha. so i guess that just goes to show you, even if you do care about the notes it is hard to predict how many a set is going to get. so i try to remind myself to just enjoy the process :)
7. a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it
oh man there were a looot of new groups but the big ones would be skz and txt (it truly does not feel like i joined those fandoms only last year in 2022). also nine.i !! some other groups too like n.flying, xdh, oneus, though i haven't made any sets for those. i also started to learn tbz and mx, and learned ateez and p1h names by osmosis thanks to siyuan lmao so you can thank her for the fact that i have now listed 9 new groups even though the question only asked for one
also!! k-actors!! :D
8. a creation you made that breaks your heart
lino eyes set because they make me melt
9. a "simple" creation that you really love
haha.....this was my pinned post for a while (sorry jaemin)
10. a creation that was inspired by another one
the lino mood sets inspired by this one, this mark set inspired by @tyongsies taeyong set hehe
11. a favorite creation created by someone else
there are literally so many i wouldn't even know where to start!! though i will give a special shoutout to nini's secret santa set for me because it is so amazing
12. favorite content creators for the year
okay here we go: @agibbangs @alrightyaphroditie @ambivartence @changbeens @chanrizard @chanstopher @chenleyah @dearlyminhyung @ggthydrangea @hyunebear @hyunpic @jinniebit @jisungsjaistandjeekies @leemarkies @minchanz @minzbins @ohoshi @potatzu @shorelinnes @snug-gyu @strayklds @tyongsies @yyukhei (this also serves as a tag if you haven't done it and want to, no pressure. otherwise this is just a hi and hug from me, love yall <3

Tumblr media
been a while since the last behind the curtain! also probably bc i haven't done anything too crazy edit-wise as of late. anyway this was a fun one! been wanting to edit the style ever since yrs dropped this mep, but i just never got around to it lol.
my ingredients: - after effects cc 2022 - red giant universe - sapphire distort - video copilot twitch
so the first step was figure out how to do the melty text effect--i knew how to do it in photoshop, but it's a little different in motion! i figured there were a few ways to do it, so i narrowed the most likely down methods to:
scale wipe + wave warp effects
text to shapes + crazy keyframing action
shape layers + linear fades or something along those lines
photoshop + liquify
and i am so sick of animating shape layers i feel like it's all i do. it literally is like 70% of what we do in motion graphics. i'm sick. i went with the scale wipe + wave warp method because fuck this LMAO. the process was like type > precompose > slap effects on > keyframe. to an exaggerated extent, this is what you get:
Tumblr media
you could probably achieve a similar wave warp effect with ae's plugin btw! but i liked that sapphire gave me a bit more customization. once i had the movement i liked, it was a simple keyframe job.
then because i am LAZY and cannot be arsed to deal with manually separating colour channels or triplicating multiple text layers just to get a chromatic aberration effect, i stuck uni.Chromatic Aberration and uni.RGB Separation onto the precomp and fiddled with those settings until i thought it was appropriately eyestrain-y.
Tumblr media
for the edit itself, i finally put my money where my mouth is and Thought About Form And Content. shoutout to my students for their relentless teasing. i set my comps at 12 fps to enhance the somewhat disjointed editing, and then i actually planned out the composition of my gifs instead of just throwing things at the wall and hoping something stuck. the background is black ice + a halftone overlay for the comic-y aesthetic. font is arial black (cheated with geller sans ultrabold for the "7" and "1") because #typography history and #cheeky references to the genre.
panels 2 + 3 basically employed the scale wipe + wave warp method in addition to my usual mograph bullshit (rotation, text animation, fake 3d using gaussian blur instead of adding a camera), but i changed minor things around. panel 3 especially, i gave the liquify tool a shot--and i don't like, hate it, but it was harder to map.
everything else seems pretty self-explanatory--stretch + center keyframes for the scale wipes in panel 1 (for the text effect), but aside from that, basic movement animations, basic glitches. i didn't reinvent the wheel! just added seb to it and spun.

Video Game Questionnaire
Was tagged by @insufficient-focus and @roguescarlett (on my main blog, but will do it here anyway XD)
Rules: Fill in your answers below and tag some buddies!
-Games-
First game you ever played: My memory is a bit hazy of exactly which game it was, but one of the first games I remember playing is Super Mario Bros.
Favorite game: Choosing a single game here is too tough. So will kinda list off a few of my favorites. Dragon Quest XI (and series), Star Wars Galaxies, KOTOR 1-2, SWTOR, Halo 2, Dark Souls 1 and 3, Legend of Zelda Wind Waker  Skyrim, and others...
Game you hated at first but now love: When I was younger I had a very love hate relationship with Dragon quest 8. When it came out I’d see my sister playing it and having a lot of fun. Anytime I’d try to play though I’d get super lost and was too unfocused to really pay attention to where to go. Now that I’m older and have a better attention span, I absolutely love the game.
Game you used to love but now hate:  I don’t think I really hate any game. I’ve been disappointed with a few games but they were never games I loved from the beginning anyway XD
Game with the best group/companion(s): There are so many good games with great companions. It may because I’ve played it more recently, but Dragon Quest XI has some of my favorite group companions.
A game with your favorite ending: In recent memory Dragon Quest XI and Red Dead Redemption 2. Out of all games though, Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask might be one of my favorite endings to a game.
A game with the WORST ending: Mass Effect 3...
Best character customization?: I only played it for a short time but Black Desert Online had an insane character customization. For a single player though I have to agree with others Dragon Age Inquisition had some of the best char customization
-Hero and Companions-
Your favorite playable character:  I play so many games with silent protags lol. Think Arthur Morgan from RDR2 might be my favorite in recent memory though.
The funniest playable character: Probably the created characters in the Saints Row games
Your favorite companion(s): All the Dragon quest XI companions and most of the companions in the other Dragon Quest games XD.  In swtor: Blizz, T7, Torian, Shae, Lana, HK-51 and 55, and Zeeyo :D (Love me some good mandos!)
Companions you could live without: Always Skadge
-Relationships-
Favorite game friendship(s): Yangus from Dragon Quest 8, Dimitri from Fire Emblem: Three houses, and Regis from Witcher 3
Favorite companion banter:  I love all the banters in the Nomad and Mako driving sections in Mass Effect
A relationship you loved but went bad: I really don’t know.
A relationship you weren’t sure of but loved: Don’t know this one either lol
A character you wish you COULD romance: I don’t know... I would say Jessica Albert from Dragon Quest 8 but in recent remake you can technically marry her.. Although you don’t get to do much romance stuff in game
A minor character you wish could be a companion: Darth Marr would be awesome to have as a comp.
-Fun-
Shoutout to a random NPC: FIRE EMBLEM GATE WATCHER!
A game you love watching playthroughs for and want to play: Even though I played them a long time ago, seeing the achievement hunter guys play through the Halo games doing LASO really has got me back into wanting to play the games.
Love watching playthroughs but won’t ever play: 7 Days to Die and horror games like Resident Evil. I’ll watch people play those but playing those kind of games would give me too much anxiety lol.
Online gaming or solo?: I generally play mostly solo games, but do enjoy playing swtor and other games with friends.
Why do you play video games?: I love to immerse myself within the awesome stories that the games tell. Bonus when they can get me really emotionally invested in the story and characters. I mainly play games as a way to relax from all my anxieties and cheer myself up when feeling down. I’m still kinda new getting back into this blog so I don’t wanna bother people with tagging. Sooo... I tag YOU, whoever would like to do this XD

Winston Programming Headcanons
hi I’m here to dump WAY too many headcanons for how Winston works. please talk to me about them. i beg of u guys,,,,
he's one of those people on stack overflow who marks your question as duplicate, closes it, and links you to another post that doesn't answer your question. and it's instantaneous because he has a Fuckload of points on that hellhole site.
he likes Matlab :/
but he also definitely is in the arrays begin at 0 camp like any sane person is
he's on the spaces side for tabs vs spaces, but he'll use soft tabs (tabs that turn into spaces)
brackets on the same line kinda guy (he’s wrong but that’s who he is)
he uses all the languages he mentioned in the math meetup scene but his favorite language is python because of its hella Dope math library (shoutout to math.py, i never fuckin use it)
second favorite is C. he loves the power of direct memory manipulation for getting into the Nitty Gritty. and he's not afraid to bust out assembly.
but because he switches between those two a lot, semicolons (or the lack thereof) fucks him over frequently
he uses vim. like he really uses vim. he's got one of those colored keyboards with the popular shortcuts and commands on it. his vimrc file is something he custom wrote and he’s Very Proud of it. he’s got the whole custom highlighting thing going on.
this man cannot survive without his Multitude of bash scripts.
watching him try to work on someone else’s computer is like watching a baby try to walk. his setup is so specific to him and what he needs to work that anything else just Doesn’t Work for him. he’ll try to do one of the shortcuts he’s set up that he’s so used to and nothing happens and he’s just :o
at least one of his six monitors is always just playing random youtube/netflix stuff in the background as he works, but as soon as he really really needs to focus he turns it off so he can figure stuff out.
frantic whiteboard pseudocoding as he tries to map out what he sees in his head for other people to understand or before he loses it. his handwriting is messy and barely legible. there are 5 expo markers laying around on his desk, all of which are shitty and out of ink, but he forgets to get new ones. he loves those white board desks and he’s shoved everything off a desk before so he can write on it.
writes down bits of code on whatever he can when he figures out how to do something that he’s been stuck on
if he’s having a particularly hard time on something at the moment, he tries to take a break but it still Consumes his thoughts. he angrily paces around the Quant Dungeon a lot, trying to calm down but Failing.
spends Hours Not Reading The Documentation and then getting angry when he finally resigns looks at it and it solves all his problems
he likes watching those videos on youtube that visualize all the different sorting algos (i really,,,, really,,,,, like doing this) ((idk maybe he does this as a visual stim maybe))
favorite data struct is leftist heaps. he likes the organized balance.
favorite sorting algo is merge sort because he likes seeing all the elements being broken down and then coming back together, in an organized order.
he uses Arch, btw. (im sorry please don’t kill me for this im very sorry)
he judges you based on what Linux distro you prefer, all while knowing people judge him the Most for using Arch.
he goes to meetup.com programming meetups and tries and fails to make friends
he’s in the ACM special interest group for econ and computation
if god forbid he has to pair program, he’s the most MISERABLE motherfucker to work with. if he’s the one driving, he won’t listen to any suggestions and if he’s the one watching, then he’s backseat programming the entire time.
he's not into hacktivism personally but he likes reading about it and knowing the Lore as well as reading about cybersecurity/penetration testing
he definitely submits memes to r/programmerhumor and then also complains that the subreddit is too general
he likes what he does but he doesn't usually program off the clock. but sometimes he'll get an idea for a personal project!!
his has exactly one personal project at a time. it either gets finished or it doesn’t before he moves onto the next one.
his personal GitHub is silent for months and then suddenly for a week straight it's dark green before fading into silence again
doesn’t like working from home. he really needs the separation between his work space and his living space.
very cryptic and unhelpful commit messages. when trying to roll back he hates himself because he has no IDEA what him in the past meant by “node updated,” because WHAT IN THE NODE WAS UPDATED??? he didn’t write it down and now it’s been two months since he’s looked at this code and he has no fucking clue.
names his variables funky things, also causing trouble for himself down the line.
sometimes leaves a dangling else statement when he writes an if, as if daring the if statement not to execute
leaves funny comments for himself in his code and other non helpful comments for whoever has to work on his code/maintain it after him. literally all sorts of remarks except for describing what his code actually does. job security! until he forgets how the fuck he did something, which is honestly only like two months later.
has definitely done the “//don’t touch, this works by magic” comment and the “//don’t refactor and come crying to me when it breaks” comment
this is probably his second real job out of college. he reads early-mid 20s to me, and so he’s definitely doing that comp sci thing where you hop around companies every few years to get a massive pay raise.
i think he only has his bachelor’s degree, but he definitely went to cornell. double major in comp sci and math. or comp sci and econ. definitely possible he has his masters though. i think if so he went to upenn for it and focused on the econ side there.
his internship during college is at a place that works with the math behind computer graphics. he loves matrices. he’s working for the fun of it before he gets down to business after he graduates.
his first job out of college is as a data analyst.
likes writing code to make fancy/fun graphics for his statistics/results in presentations to his bosses. if he has the time. which he usually doesn’t.
"blockchain is just a fancy linked list" he says, as he makes a killing investing in cryptocurrency so he graduates with minimal debt.
he has a "the cloud is just someone else's computer" graphic t shirt
he's very into getting the most optimal run time for in his code, which is part of what makes his algo for tmc so Good. everything needs to run as As Fast As Possible in that algo. Time Complexity Is His Jam. idk what to tell u. the dude loves math.
but also he just wrote a quad nested for loop and this is the comment above it: //This is O(scary), but seems quick enough in practice
space complexity? not so much. he doesn’t care about how much space his algos take up.
he hates maintaining code. he’s itching to create new things and he views programming as a sort of art and creative expression sometimes (im right on this. programming is creative and ill fight to the death).

I like long walks on the beach except when it’s hot outside, making fun of Jared’s fake eye patch and being a LEGEND and winning a high quality Tumblr Survivor season @micahel SOOOOOOOOO let’s get some good videos in YAW YEET
And now for the videos:
Pennekamp Dragons:
youtube
“Sometimes our home is able to shape who we are. Not everyone lives the same, and because of that we are all different, but that’s okay. We all have pride in who we are, and where we live gives us that pride.”
Jess: Creativity: 7.5 Comments: Honestly this was a super cute idea. Ryan can I come over?! From the “Cribs theme” to the “milk shake” (such a waste BTW).... y’all BROUGHT IT. General Cohesiveness: 6 Honestly if there wasn’t that one dude with this camera vertically this would have been FLAWLESS. Although he has cute kids so I won't take off too many points here. Humor/Enjoyability: 7 I kind of wished EVERYONE brought it in the humour category BUT this shit was ENJOYABLE to watch. Relation to Theme: 8 You guys killed the theme. I felt at home. Total Score: 28.5/40
Asya: Creativity: 6/10. Cohesiveness: 1/10. Everyone had something different going on with the only theme being you were in houses. Humor: 5/10. Relation to theme: 2/10. The song wasn’t the absolute best for hometown pride. I saw the outside of one persons house. Idk.  Total Score: 14/40
Jones: Creativity - 8/10 - Y'all had a shit ton of fun with this video and i'm so happy about it. You guys really killed it in the creativity portion, but I feel some of the tribe brought more to the table than the rest. Isaac I hope you didn't burn your house down. General Cohesiveness of Video - 7/10 - For the most part it's pretty cohesive except for the people who shot vertically, but besides that y'all did good Humor/Enjoyability - 7/10 - again, it felt like y'all had a good time, and it shows. I loved everything from Ryan's MTV spoof to Isaac deepthroating a banana. AND MARK YOUR KIDS ARE SO CUTE OMG Relation to Theme (Hometown Pride) - 8/10 - tbh of the three tribes, I feel like you guys shined the most when it came to theme. Great job!! Total Score: 30/40
Alyssa: Creativity: 6/10 General Cohesiveness: 8/10 Humor/Enjoyability: 8/10 Relation to Theme: 9/10 Okay I ADORED this video. The children? Wholesome. The dog stuffed animal on Fire? A huge ass mood. Pouring a drink on your head? Yes. I just felt like this tribe had an A M A Z I N G, really fucking fun time doing this challenge and to me that’s what this challenge is A L L about. Excellent job guys!!! Total Score: 31/40
Nicole: Creativity: 6/10. That was fun but I am confusion Cohesiveness: 7/10. I'll say what I said to the other judges: I love you all but...it kind of felt like I was watching a bunch of single parents not know what to do when their kids were at school.  Humor: 8/10- Isaac are you okay... Relation to theme: 7/10. I mean...I get it. The cribs thing made more sense. The kids were cute but nobody was singing except for two of you so wyd. Total Score: 28/40
Overall Score: 131.5/200
Robinson Riptides:
youtube
“This season of Tumblr Survivor is set in Manhattan Beach, California, so what better way to celebrate it than with this song? Even though Katy sings about all of California, specific cities like L.A. and the neighborhoods in it are given a shoutout, which fit the hometown pride theme as it’s geared towards L.A. in general. As the song describes, it’s a fun place to be and those who live there have a lot of pride in it.”
Jess: Creativity: 4. Nothing was super creative about this video? Also.. who still has their Christmas Tree up in MARCH?! General Cohesiveness: 5 Honestly, there was SOME cohesion here but not enough to “WOW” me. Humor/Enjoyability: 5.5 Jake.. you stole the show here. I enjoyed your parts the MOST and you brought it. I REALLY hope your ass doesn’t get a cold though. Relation to Theme: 6 Honestly you guys did amazing in that category. Jake you really committed to the THEME and it SHOWED. Total Score: 20.5/40
Asya: Creativity: 2/10. Nothing really jumped out at me. Cohesiveness: 5/10. There wasn’t much to go off of but for the most part everyone had the same instinct to just lip sync. Humor: 4/10. Some of it was maybe a little accidental I think. Relation to theme: 7/10. The song choice made sense even tho almost everyone was surrounded by show. There were shots that took place outside and near what I assume are like places of business so that’s cool.  Total Score: 18/40
Jones: Creativity - 4/10 - Jake (and Andreas I think?) are the only ones that really stole the show for me tbh. They had a lot of fun with it but I don't feel like everyone else brought it. General Cohesiveness of Video - 5/10 - you guys are pretty cohesive in terms of camera work. But some of the parts when you guys are lip syncing is off. but also I feel like there was a lot of uneven editing? Towards the end it was like,, only Jake. No one else showed up as much as he did. Humor/Enjoyability - 5/10 - Jake please get a jacket. I loved what you did but holy shit are you ok? Andreas and Jake were the ones that really like,, brought humor to this tbh. Relation to Theme (Hometown Pride) - 5/10 - The only person to really work in the theme of the video was, again, Jake. everything else just felt like a regular lip sync. I love y'all but this made me upsetti spaghetti. Total Score: 19/40
Alyssa: Creativity: 6/10 General Cohesiveness: 5/10 Humor/Enjoyability: 6/10 Relation to Theme: 1/10 Alright guys... I love y’all to fucking DEATH. BUt— editing, I felt like I was staring at some people straight up for 30 seconds, which isn’t the way of the music video challenge. Also I had to hit you guys hard with relation to theme. Maybe it was part of the humor, but obviously none of y’all are from California. It just doesn’t fit the theme I’m sorry loves!! Total Score: 18/40
Nicole: Creativity: 5/10. It was alright in the creativity department, I kind of hate this song but...I won't hold it against you. Cohesiveness: 4/10. You all seemed kind of uh...unenthused to be there. Humor: 3/10. I think I was more confused than amused.....honestly.  Relation to theme: 7/10. Yes. Total Score: 19/40
Overall Score: 94.5/200
Pacific Panthers:
youtube
“This was the editors first time editing a video so please don’t judge too harshly for that. The one vertical shot was shot horizontal but it got fucked up somehow. Thanks for watching!”
Jess: Creativity: 5 Comments: Y’all had some dance moves? Creativity wise? There wasn’t too much there? General Cohesiveness: 7 Honestly, I think out of all 3 groups it seems like MOST of your tribe particpated comp which is AMAZING. This video kind of flowed well. It was CUTE. Humor/Enjoyability: 6.5 I enjoyed the humour in this! It was super enjoyable to watch. Dani twirls, someone falling, a sword? What more can you ask for in the humour department? Relation to Theme: 6.5 I mean.. the song did say “home”. I liked the touch with the calendar. I’m not too sure anything else really jumped out really. Total Score: 25/40
Asya: Creativity: 4/10. I thought the opening with the calendar was really neat but that was about it.  Cohesiveness: 7/10. All of you had matching enthusiasm and that’s good enough for me.  Humor: 4/10.  Relation to theme: 7/10. I liked that song choice a lot. The part where someone was out on the sidewalk of like a strip mall was really cute and more of what I wanted to see in this.  Total Score: 22/40
Jones: Creativity - 6/10 - y'all this was so cute. I really appreciated it. but again it's one of those things where I feel like more could be done. The song is very cute btw <3 General Cohesiveness of Video - 8/10 - pretty cohesive tbh!! not a lot was like,, done wrong or anything lmao. and whoever did the editing did a good job for the first time!! Humor/Enjoyability - 7/10 - Y'ALL AGAIN THIS WAS SO CUTE from the calender stuff to just the general dancing and having fun, I really appreciated it :D Relation to Theme (Hometown Pride) - 6/10 - y'all I really appreciated this, but there wasn't much of a theme? I know Dan brought a lot for a theme and whatnot, but it was an overall v cute video with not much of a theme. Total Score: 27/40
Alyssa: Creativity: 5/10  General Cohesiveness: 7/10 Humor/Enjoyability: 4/10 Relation to Theme: 6/10  Okay friends SO. I ADORE the song choice. Love ending the video with that iconic fall. The song choice was amazing but having watched Pennekamp’s video.... y’all just don’t match up, I’m sorry! I was so excited when this first started for some bomb ass editing but wound up disappointed with what was actually produced. Love y’all and best of luck!!! Total Score: 22/40
Nicole: Creativity: 5/10. I mean...it was a little creative. You seemed to put in a bit of effort bc you added some small slides of other things besides yourselves. Nice guitar too. There was definitely more effort put in by two of you than others. Cohesiveness: 4/10. The vertical video really annoyed me I'm not gonna lie, like if it was vertical and they were turned the right way it it would annoy me less BUT because you guys did all that editing and then couldn't even flip the video the right way...makes me very upsetti spaghetti. Humor: 5/10- It wasn't funny at all but I don't think that's what you were shooting for. SINCE it was in the criteria, it should have been funnier though. Relation to theme: 6/10. You guys said the word home and showed a calendar. I assume the snapchat was you "at home". But there was nothing than that. Total Score: 20/40
Overall Score: 116/200 +5 for Reward = 121/200

Willians Astudillo Is A Baseball Enigma
Willians Astudillo was already something of a cult hero before he made this year’s opening day roster of the Minnesota Twins. He earned a video shoutout on MLB.com shortly after his major league debut last year when his first-to-home sprint left him gasping. And ESPN tweeted that he “may have broken every single one of baseball’s unwritten rules” after he kneeled in the batter’s box to watch a winter ball home run. (The kneel was “a natural reaction,” Astudillo told us. “I thought it was going to be foul.”)

But there’s another thing that makes the 27-year-old rookie nicknamed La Tortuga is perhaps the most interesting man in baseball: his bat. No one in pro baseball hits quite like he does.
Among all major league hitters in history to record at least 100 plate appearances, Astudillo ranks first in batting average (.382). While he looks something like Bartolo Colon, he’s hitting like Ty Cobb.
With the Twins and Diamondbacks Triple-A teams in 2018 and 2017, Astudillo posted the lowest strikeout rate each season among all Double-A and Triple-A batters with at least 100 plate appearances. In the farm systems of the Braves and Phillies in 2016 and 2015, he had the lowest K-rates in all of the minors. Across his entire minor league career, he struck out just 81 times in 2,461 plate appearances (3.3 percent). With velocity and strikeouts at record levels across the majors, it’s never been more difficult to make contact with a pitch. But in an age when walks and on-base percentage are prized, Astudillo has shown little interest in watching pitches go by. He walked on just 85 occasions (a 3.5 percent walk rate) across nine seasons in the minors.1
In his brief major league career, he’s striking out at a 2.8 percent rate. Two players have had lower K rates for a season since 1989: Tony Gwynn (1995) and Felix Fermin (1993 and 1995).
Astudillo has always hit. So why did it take him 10 years to make the major leagues? It’s probably that the sport didn’t know what to do with him. No one has looked, or hit, quite like the 5-foot-9, 225-pound catcher/utility man.
The Twins’ scouts were perplexed by Astudillo, said Derek Falvey, the chief baseball officer for Minnesota.
“They weren’t necessarily projecting the power or the on-base skill because of the lack of walks,” Falvey said. “I’d say [the scouts’ grade on his bat] was probably fringe-average, in that range, toward average. It wasn’t anything that stood out.”
He was such an outlier that Minnesota’s own projection system struggled to find comps when the Twins were scouring minor league free agents after the 2017 season.2
“He’s an interesting guy because he’s not someone projection systems would easily pick out,” Falvey said. “It’s a simple reason: Projection systems are based upon history. Take a random player, like Jonathan Schoop. You know what his track record was through the minor leagues. If you have a similar batted-ball profile, strikeout rate, swing-and-miss rate, all those things, there’s a chance you might become someone like him over time. That’s the way projection systems are built. They look at history to then look at the future.
“Willians is kind of his own breed.”
Astudillo is interesting for another reason, too: He’s getting better.
Astudillo’s grandfather and father were obsessed with baseball. His father had played professionally in Venezuela. Astudillo remembers a drill in which his father would kneel a few feet away and flick corn kernels toward him in their backyard in the coastal city of Barcelona, Venezuela. Astudillo’s objective was to hit the knuckling projectiles with a broomstick. He thinks his rare contact ability is part nature and part nurture.
“I think it’s just who I’ve been since the beginning, practicing with my dad and my grandfather. That close nucleus back home, just practicing,” Astudillo told FiveThirtyEight through an interpreter. “It’s something that I have. I don’t know how to explain it exactly.”
But low-strikeout, high-contact hitters are increasingly interesting for another reason beyond their scarcity: They’ve shown a knack for developing power.
The average launch angle has increased every year since Statcast began measuring balls in play in 2015, from 10.1 degrees in 2015 to 11.7 degrees last season and to what would be a record rate of 13.2 degrees as it stands early this season. (Astudillo’s average launch angle was 12.2 degrees last season.) That trend suggests that more hitters are trying to hit balls above infield shifts and out of the ballpark.
Hitters with excellent contact rates but unlikely power-hitting builds — like Jose Ramirez, Jose Altuve, Justin Turner, Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor — have become sluggers in recent seasons. As more batters are adjusting their swing planes, elite contact hitters have made the greatest offensive gains — measured in one way by isolated power, or batting average minus slugging percentage.
Astudillo has also gained power in recent years without having to sacrifice his contact ability. No projection system or scout saw that coming. Falvey, who had worked in the Cleveland front office before taking the Twins job, noted that Ramirez was also a high-contact hitter before he had an unlikely power breakout.
“Did anyone see Jose Ramirez turning into that kind of power hitter?” he said. “If anyone tells you they believed that at the outset — I worked there — I can tell you that’s not true. We did believe he had some interesting profile traits. Same thing with Willians.”
While Astudillo was limited to 128 Triple-A plate appearances with the Diamondbacks in 2017, his isolated power jumped to a career-best .217, up from .065 the previous year. His previous best ISO mark had been .101. (The MLB average ISO was .161 in 2018.) With the Twins last year, he followed up with a .192 ISO mark in 307 plate appearances in Triple-A and a .161 mark in 97 plate appearances with the major league club.
His power has been present early this season, too. Within his first three major league swings of 2019 on Sunday, he doubled twice. In his second start Wednesday, Astudillo went 3-for-5 with another double.
“I think it’s the experience from playing more often,” Astudillo said of his power surge. “Yes, I made contact (early in my career), but it was mostly weak contact. I was swinging at pitches a little out of the zone. Now I am not swinging at those pitches. I am being more selective.”
Astudillo ranks 35th in the frequency of swinging at pitches out of the zone among major league hitters to have recorded at least 100 plate appearances since last season, and he ranks 17th in swing percentage. But Falvey noted that Astudillo doesn’t dramatically expand his zone and offer at pitches far outside the strike zone.
“It’s not like he’s trying to chase balls over his head or out of the strike zone,” Falvey said. “He just constantly attacks strikes. He has a unique ability that when he attacks a strike, he usually doesn’t miss.”
Baseball Savant
When Astudillo goes outside the zone, he’s not going that far out of the zone. And when he swings — either in or out of the zone — he doesn’t miss. Astudillo leads baseball in contact rate (91.9 percent) and out-of-zone contact rate (83.3) among batters with at least 100 plate appearances since last season. That’s well above the MLB averages for both last season, with contact rate at 76.9 percent and out-of-zone contact at 60.1 percent.
While Astudillo’s bat is fascinating, it’s not the reason the Twins signed him in November 2017 to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. They were intrigued by his glove.
During their organizational meetings last spring, Twins officials went through the scouting reports on players in their camp. As they looked at Astudillo, they thought he could play second, third, left field and catcher — important versatility in a sport that increasingly requires roster flexibility. A Twins evaluator in the room then spoke up.
“‘He can play center, too, just ask him,’” Falvey recalled.
The club officials were amused. Center field didn’t seem like a natural fit for the stout player. But Astudillo showed them the proof: video of himself robbing a home run in a 2014 Venezuelan winter league playoff game.

Months later, after several Twins went down with heat exhaustion during a game on a sweltering afternoon last June, Astudillo trotted out to center field in Wrigley Field. He became the first player 5-foot-9 or shorter weighing more than 220 pounds to play center in a major league baseball game, according to Baseball-Reference.com.
But even given his versatility, the Twins thought he was best suited to play catcher, according to Falvey. Astudillo rated as an above-average pitch framer throughout his minor league career, according to Baseball Prospectus defensive metrics — and pitch framing has been a focus of Falvey’s since he took the reins of the Twins after the 2016 season.
While the Twins initially brought in Astudillo for his interesting glove, it’s his bat that will ultimately determine how much he plays and whether he’s a short-lived curiosity or becomes a useful major leaguer.
Even the Twins admit that they didn’t see this player emerging. But as is so often the case with Astudillo, what you expect is not what you get.
