#show some gay solidarity folks

i think i'm just feeling sad if that's okay to express here? like, the writers in the past have just, made me feel so seen and safe as a queer person. they haven't been afraid to explore, like, the ways in which 'deviant'/queer sexuality is subject to ridicule/punishment within family systems and broader cultural systems. i'm thinking about logan's repeat homophobia towards kendall (especially), roman, greg's dad, etc. and then the writer's just built up such like, profound homoerotism between tom and greg and countless other characters. and it just sort of seemed to me like they were gearing up for a really meaningful display of solidarity with queer folk? like with logan out of the way, the frontrunner of the patriarchal oppression olympics, the queer ships could have so much freedom/bandwidth to just, i don't know, live?? and instead it feels like, all of the writers gave into comp. het overnight, and now we're just getting a bunch of conwilla and tomshiv and shiv/mattson scenes as their queer-coded ships fade to the background and sink to the bottom of the sea 😣
thank you for sending this in and trusting me to share your thoughts!
while i don't want to start any major discourse since the season isn't over yet, i don't blame any fans for feeling disappointed or duped by the change of pace thus far. i don’t think succession ever set out to be some bastion of queer representation, and i highly doubt every seemingly queer-coded moment was intentional. that being said, in tomgreg and roman's case, the writers definitively used gay subtext and homoeroticism as both a plot thread and character development tactic. now it seems they’ve put those choices on the back burner, allowing the queer dynamics to rest in ambiguity while straight pairings are given more explicit attention.
it’s disappointing particularly in tomgreg’s case given how vital their queer-coded subplot was to the culmination of last season’s finale. i disagree with takes that are like, "if you ever thought tomgreg was going anywhere, you're stupid or haven't been paying attention." yeah, tomgreg going "canon" was never a likelihood—but i think that's moreso a testament to the realities of queer representation rather than the nature of their relationship in the show itself. that’s a whole can of worms i don’t want to open quite yet without having seen the full season.
despite what the writers may have intended, intention does not invalidate interpretation. in fact, in a business where art is made to be consumed and the art’s financial success hinges on that consumption, interpretation is just as important. don’t let anyone tell you your reading of the show is wrong, and don’t ever feel "stupid" for hoping for more, even if that’s unlikely. if the writers are going to drop crumbs, they shouldn’t be surprised fans want to follow them to a full meal.

On Hogwarts Legacy and allyship.
TW/CW: J.K Rowling, Hogwarts Legacy, Transphobia, Antisemitism mentioned. Right. CW out of the way, let me preface this by saying that this may turn out to be a long ramble, but I feel the need to voice my grievances in some way as a non-binary person. First of all, let's set some boundaries. Arguments in bad faith and trolling shall be ignored and/or reported/blocked. Lately, with all this hassle going on about Hogwarts Legacy, I felt the need to air my frustrations. We have all seen many different arguments from across both sides, but I will try to keep this as short as I can.
This game has been talked about well before launch, and many trans and enby folks, as well as Jewish people have asked for people to show solidarity by not buying the game. As an ally, it's important to note that it's not a lifetime pass. Many think that being an ally just means saying you support something or be generally neutral and not saying slurs. That is not the case. To be an ally you have to listen to what marginalized groups are saying. The release of this game and the widescale purchase of it by people only talking the talk and not walking the walk has shown many of us under the Trans umbrella (as well as our Jewish comrades) that we cannot trust those we called allies.
I am not saying that playing this game automatically makes you a bigoted person. Some folks I know got it and one admitted that the last JKR controversy he recalled was the whole "Dumbledore is now gay" debacle. (Pretty solid rock you've been under. Room for one more? /j) My ire is not pointed towards people that were genuinely ignorant of the situation, though my disappointment still stands and my trust in them as allies is gone. What mostly draws my ire is the knee-jerk reaction of supposed "allies" when pointing out that they have crossed the picket line and attempt to rationalize their purchase with arguments such as "I'm only supporting the devs", "I'm seperating the art from the artist", "What will 60-70 bucks change?" and "It's okay though because I donated as much/more to a Trans charity!" and so on. Let's go through them one by one. I'd like to keep this as short as possible however as many others have pointed out why these fall flat. 1. "I'm only supporting the devs". If you ONLY support the devs (of which the lead dev and a voice actor share JKR's horrific viewpoints), why aren't you buying EVERY single game on every storefront you make use of? This is a non-argument. If you buy games ONLY to support the devs, then by all means, bankrupt yourself to do just that. But you don't. You wanted to buy this game for nostalgia's sake. 2. "I'm separating the art from the artist" As a fan of HP Lovecraft's work, I understand the want to separate the art from the artist. But 1) Lovecraft is rotting in the ground as we speak. JKR is very much alive. 2) It's hard to seperate the art from the artist when said art is used as a cudgel to infringe upon human rights and dignity. Every act of consumption of her IP she sees as a vote of confidence in her brand of hatred. You may not personally see it that way, but she does, and she relishes in it. "But you just said you like Lovecraft's work! He was VERY racist and xenophobic!" Yes, absolutely! Let's HAVE that conversation, but not on this post. I agree that Lovecraft's art needs to be talked about in a critical light and the setting needs to be reclaimed and distanced from his fear and hatred of all things Not-From-New-England.
For now, moving on to... 3. "What will 60-70 bucks change?" In the grand scheme of things? Nothing. But this was never about trying to ruin JKR's pocket book. This was a litmus test for allies. Stand side by side or cross the picket line and play a mid-tier magic game filled with propaganda and caricatures of Jewish people (among other things). No, I will not entertain statements such as "But I don't see that! If anything, you seeing Jewish caricatures means you are the antisemite!" No buddy, no no no, that's not how propaganda works. There are other posts that delve into this. But in short; recognizing when something is a racist caricature does not make you a racist. Nor does not recognizing it immediately make you a racist, it simply means that you do not recognize propagandic imagery and it's important to listen to people who do know about it, specifically people that have been so unfavourably depicted in the past and present. Moving on. 4. "It's okay though because I donated as much/more to a Trans charity!" Martin Luther would like to have a strong conversation with you. Specifically 95 Theses long. Karma is not a linear scale. Buying something that ends up directly harming people and then turning around to pledge the same amount of money (or more) to a charity is not going to fix the broken trust, nor will it actually help at that point. What might help mend the fence is recognizing what the issue is and listening to the voices of those affected. Granted, many of us feel that they can no longer trust former allies because of this. Once broken, trust is hard to repair. It's important to keep that in mind and not get upset when we point it out. Personally, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but with that said, I won't be so trusting of people calling themselves allies when they choose to spend 60-70 bucks on a game that directly benefits Queen TERF (Royalty cheques are a thing, remember? You ARE directly financing her hate) rather than saving the money or putting it to a different game or charity. In short, my advice for folks that call themselves allies is this; If you want to call yourself an ally, actually listen to what is being said and learn from it. We all make mistakes, but launching into a kneejerk reaction is simply degrading what little trust remained. Don't just virtue signal, but stand beside the voices of the marginalized in solidarity.
That is all I can spare at the moment. Please keep the responses civil among one another. Asking for clarification is a-okay. Repeating above mentioned "arguments" and more like them is not. P.S: Do forgive me if I forgot some key points, I've been running on very little sleep at the moment and I needed to air my frustrations in a constructive way.

I predicted, in June of [2020], mere weeks after the murder, that all of the alleged “solidarity” from corporate or political “allies” was white bullshit. I explained that white folks understand (either consciously or not) that the police are there to protect them, their privilege, and their power. I said that white folks are fundamentally willing to sacrifice innocent Black people to the murderous clutches of the police if it ensures their continued supremacy. I wrote: The system of white supremacy enforced and protected by the American police was not built in a day, and it will not be dismantled in a day. What will people be prepared to do two weeks from now to make the world safer for black people than it was two weeks ago? What will they be prepared to do in two months? In two years?… Already, the infrastructure is in place for this country to ignore police brutality the moment everybody stops shouting about it. It was an easy prediction to make if you understand the way the white world works. The white public support for the protests dissipated before the summer was even over. The inclusion and diversity programs erected in response to the protests are being torn down with glee by the defenders of white supremacy. Meaningful police reform died in statehouses around the country, in Congress, and on Senator Joe Manchin’s desk. And the news media and Hollywood resumed its regularly scheduled programing of copaganda. And so, three-and-a-half years after the summer of “no justice, no peace,” we are back to the quiet acceptance of systemic injustice. A new report from the nonprofit organization Mapping Police Violence shows that 2023 was the police’s most homicidal year on record. The police killed at least 1,232 people last year, the most since the organization began tracking police murders in 2013. In 98 percent of those cases, the officers faced no charges. It should come as little surprise that Black people faced the greatest danger from these murderous officers. Black people accounted for 26 percent of the deaths, despite the fact that we are only 14 percent of the population. Indeed, the statistics showed that Black people were 2.6 times more likely to be killed by the police than white people. But, hey, former Harvard University president Claudine Gay improperly cited some of her sources, so really her appointment was the biggest racial injustice story of the year. Not Tyre Nichols, who was lynched by a group of Memphis cops. Not Niani Finlayson, who was fatally shot by a Los Angeles police officer mere seconds after he arrived on the scene to respond to a domestic violence call she made. Not Leonard Allan Cure, who spent 16 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, was exonerated, and was shot to death by police during a traffic stop.
* * * * *
This is the police force white America wants: violent and unaccountable. We cannot even muster enough sustained attention to the problem of police brutality, much less the sustained political pressure to try to fix it. Whatever else happens in 2024, one thing is certain: The police will kill more people, those people will be disproportionately Black, and nobody will stop them.

A Tale of Two Hannya: Art Imitates Life
Tumblr media
These are always kind of a trickier beast to write because by design the comparison casts a more negative light on a popular character. But they tend to be well received. Living near the path of peak totality for the big US eclipse, had me wanting to finish this one sitting in my drafts because well...we have both sun & moon themes as well as a dynamic of "upstaging" each other. Which is kinda cool. I really do think, when taken together, Kiku & Yamato give you one of the most interesting dynamics in this massive series despite the two faces almost never appearing together.
Let's step back a little though. Why? Why would our author structure so much of Luffy's story in Wano through the top two new faces for the arc? Almost splitting Luffy's story in half with mirror opposites; humble and helpful followed by flashy yet flawed. Pitting organic bonding against the spotlight. A very straightforward and earnest trans woman foiled by a deliberately inconsistent and ambiguous character falling somewhere you'd call transmasculine. Our Crane Wife and our Dragon's King's Daughter, forget the plot of One Piece for a moment...what's the reflection of our world they mirror?
Tumblr media
As gross as it is to compare oneself to Doflamingo, I promise I'm going somewhere with this. And, to be fair I can think of a few specific people who'd make that type of comparison about me. I like to think I use my powers for good, but anyone with them would say that. Touched on it a little with the Otohime side story but over the 2010s I had my little strings in just about every corner of LGBT activism throughout a region that's now a solid gay haven in a conservative state. For the first half of that decade, it was thrust upon me because people saw how solid a representative a young, cute, well-spoken lady would be at diffusing old stereotypes. An MA in Political Science helped too.
Because it's currently Ramadan still, I'd like to share one story I feel was a high watermark and how it rippled in a way that is gonna shape my outlook here. When I noticed there was a shift. One I felt trepidation about aspects of initially and today feel vindicated seeing how Gen Z views their elders. It was Ramadan a fair few years ago now, while part of a board for something I got to know a local Muslim leader and his wife. They were used to inviting other community leaders to join them for Iftar, the fast-breaking meal. They wanted to show their young progressive members they were listening and respectfully invite someone trans, remember these are often very sex-segregated places. Even if there were some livid hardliners most of the women really liked me and you could tell it meant a lot to some of the older teen girls who really wanted to square more progressive beliefs with their faith.
Late 2010s, so if I told you there was backlash in queer circles guess who. More or less entirely people who'd fit that college radfem to transmasc mold. "I'd have gone to the women's side in solidarity and liberated those oppressed women being soo radical." "Don't you think what Rhea did was you know, kinda problematic? If I have to explain to you how it's low-key cultural appropriation I don't even..." "They only picked her because she acts like a little Barbie doll." Yes, that last one is peak feminism. They can call me wicked if they want; at least I was called to serve while they were all just rabble-rousers who decided they were the only morally pure enough ones to be local leaders. That's what this was all about, politics.
If you ask me personally about the current state of trans movements? It kinda comes down to that. Most Milennials, trans women, men, & even nonbinary folk, tend to use the community as a temporary safe haven but acceptance has come far enough it tends to stay temporary. Gender is but one aspect of our identity, the hugbox and group chats about pronouns only really feel like they're giving you something for so long. The holdout? In my experience that tends to be trans men or transmasc enbies who took a half-step before coming out in the relative privilege of radical feminist spaces offering a little space within. I don't have a whole lot of animosity towards these guys...it just feels like sometimes it becomes all of our problem when that radfem space pumped you full of a distorted vision of "male privilege" and you feel jilted you didn't get that by waking up one day and saying you are now man.
Tumblr media
Was Eiichiro Oda going for all that? Fuck no. I was a longtime leader of a local movement, he's a cis author on the outside looking in. Better way these two make sense is more an author being aware enough (Japan had a similar trajectory over the last decade) these two serve well as standins for the extremes of what a teen today sees about this transgender community. Okama type caricatures just don't work anymore. Transmasc nearing 30 who feels like they don't even know what they want? Playing word games that feel like you never stopped and thought how they'd sound to other people? Chasing an idealized version of masculinity? It's not exactly an uncommon sentiment. It's a side-effect of finally getting that long sought visibility...scrutiny goes hand in hand.
It's a Tale of Two Hannya because it's weaving in the story of one community experiencing a Tale of Two Movements. Two movements that are at times diametrically opposed (foes). That's where the upstaging or "eclipse" aspect comes in. The way beats for one influence the other even without trying. Why Yamato's the one trying to find a place and Kiku's already dealing with average pressures of being a woman. Regardless of how you feel about that personally, you have to at least acknowledge this is the general impression teens today seem to have. Hypothetically, you could get the same effect between a more clear-cut trans man and someone kinda like Kamatari.
Ultimately, Wano is about who we are vs the roles we play. We see other places where themes of just saying you fill a role doesn't mean you are. I've said Yamato's a gentle critique of the extreme "you are what you say your are" side of trans movements. I understand why people would want to see things that way, but gender is a social phenomenon. For the record, I do think it low-key radiates dude energy to not care about shit like cannonballing tits out into the main bath, no one should have to act a certain way and all that. But it's a good pair for demonstrating where we're at in general. The emotions they evoke out of readers are a good reflection of where young men are kinda at on all this trans stuff. And both are still portrayed as cool, friendly people. But I do see where it's coming from when Oda shifts that classic immaturity element from Kiku more to Yamato.

Revenge of Others Final Thoughts
*Spoilers*
ROO ended how I was hoping! Semi-happy/open ending with Sooheon still alive, though he still has a tumor. Plus, him and Chanmi are together! And I'm glad all the other students protected Sooheon, that's some great solidarity right there.
I'm kinda figured Jaebum was the one who killed Wonseok, but I still am gonna blame it all on Gi Osung. Osung nearly killed Jaebum and then manipulated him when he was in a vulnerable state, tricking him into killing Wonseok. FUCK GI OSUNG! All that man does is lie and manipulate people. Idk if he's actually dead or just in a coma but he deserved to fall off that building. That's called karma folks.
On a different note, it's funny how the only kiss we got on the show was between the gays. Love that for them! But poor Wonseok and Sejin, they both deserved better. (Again FUCK GI OSUNG)
Overall, I really enjoyed this show! I will literally watch anything that Shin Yeeun is in and this was one of her best shows! Plus Lomon is one fine-ass man. They had great chemistry too, would it be too much to hope to see them in another project together?

I don't want to be a buzz kill over the free Iran campaign, but how does spreading hashtags solve anything? This isn't bringing back a McDonald's dipping sauce, this is changing a stubborn theocracy. Like, I doubt president Raisi and mullahs are gonna recognize religious freedom over tweet trends and a protest in Huston. So, is the hashtag activism doing any good, other than reminding us what we already know about the IR?
not much we can do from here, undeniable.
There's awareness that's a big word when these things happen, mostly pointless we're aware that being gay carries the death penalty there and nothing's really changing.
It's still really good for people to feel like somehow in some minuscule way they're contributing, maybe someone gets a picture through and some folks there that are running out of steam see some weird group of white girls with whatever makeup deal they do and frosted tips and all those weird becky with the good hair things they do, and all 3 of the girls are displaying in some way shape or form some kind of attempt at solidarity with the people of Iran and the womens struggle to choose their own clothing maybe they like wide brim nike baseball hat, nice stetson still need to keep the sun out of your eyes and Persia just layered with sunlight.
But ya, maybe something like that gets through got some people that were on their way out, can't keep up, ready to throw in the towel. Random twist of fate on the local bluetooth repeater network or whatever that was they had running in Hong Kong before the plague, weird pic of 3 random white chicks that you don't know, they don't know, nobody but the local football team really knows them, since they're kinda slutty like that, but it's ok.
Few random people about to give up, do the reverse of throw in the towel where instead you put it on your head and call it a hijab see these random people that are rooting for them, you'll never encounter them in this life astronomical odds of that but they're there back at their home thinking of you and your fight.
corny as fuck I know, tf 3 slutty beckys have to do with anything
corny like I said, super corny. Cliche too, people start chanting and Hulk Hogan suddenly can defend himself and withstand any blow level corny and cliche.
There's a reason the cliche exists, French resistance in WW2 no hash tags, no cell phones, but people managed to get messages through that folks back further where it was safer maybe folks in England were cheering for them
Then you had De Gaulle coming in on radio waves telling people they were not forgotten or abandoned.
Pretty fuckin cool huh.
Knowing there's people out there cheering for you, might just get you the inner and outer strength to slap some slave on you bruises grab your water and get ready to tell your government you're not going to put up with it anymore.
Becky cubed back in the US they somehow played a part in that by showing that they cared.
Or not, maybe nobody will ever see becky cubed, but they still get to feel like they contributed which is good for them too, people want to help even where there's not really anything they can do.
Same thing as thoughts and prayers, why I think is such a messed up thing to get annoyed over.
People want to feel like they're helping, guy working moon base alpha says a prayer for the folks trapped in a mine in Romania just wants to help and that's the way they know to do it.
So lots of reasons to do those things, in the end you may never know if you had a tangible impact but you will know you tried.
nice thing to remember in tough times

It always gets me how like when it comes to ships that specifically include Black women in them, white folks especially white queers will always search for a reason or scene that proves that the other person who isn't the Black woman and is involved in the ship is actually gay or for some reason wouldn't want to be in a relationship with said Black woman or just Black women in general.
Basically white people will try to pull out every headcanon or in reality, excuse that they can out of their assses to convince other fans n such that the relationship between a Black woman and white man is actually just wlw/mlm solidarity, or that they're just platonic friends, or worse yet that the Black woman doesn't need a relationship cause she so strong. And before y'all whine, I am all for platonic relationships and queer solidarity. And no not EVERYONE wants to be in a relationship. But this is different. The intentions behind why white people will do this in fandoms with relationships that specifically include Black women in them is fueled by misogynoir and anti-Blackness.
Y'all are stripping Black women of our right to have our own relationships and love interests, y'all also can't stand seeing us in m/f relationships (which aren't inherently a "cishet thing" btw) that aren't purely white centric and (depending on the ship) are actually portrayed/written in a healthy, non toxic, and non fetishizing manner. Black women aren't even allowed to fall in love and g-dforbid we fall in love or show any sort of affection towards a hot white man, cause y'all will lose your collective shit.
Also I'm not even getting into how y'all will perpetuate the "This Black woman is so strong that she doesn't even need a man!" stereotype to the point to were seeing a Black woman being vulnerable is something that leaves you absolutely flabbergasted cause y'all are so used to seeing us in a masculine and strong light. Especially with brown and dark skinned Black women. As if we don't have emotions, don't struggle, don't have breakdowns, or even have emotional issues like the white characters who are allowed to have all of those things and gain development from them.
And on top of that, we also get erased from fanfiction, from headcanons, from otps, gif sets, edits, I mean you name it. Meanwhile literally any random white girl or even white man who breathes in the direction of the white man who's obviously with said Black woman, is suddenly in an overwhelming amount of headcanons, shipping theories, fanfics, etc, that are dedicated to a white man and (essentially) a stranger or worse yet, sometimes an enemy meanwhile neither of them even have an ounce of chemistry with the white man nor do they have literally any interest in one another.
I'm just so tired of it. And personally I'm all about platonic relationships and queer headcanons as much as the next person but NOT at the expense of dehumanizing Black women. Besides where is that energy when it comes to headcanoning the Black woman as queer? Where is that energy for upliftment of relationships when it comes to a Black woman finding a man she loves and he happens to be white? Where is that energy that makes you cry "I ship it!" or makes you want to make gif sets of them whenever the Black woman and white man are flirting with each other or healing together from past emotional scars? Don't think that I and other Black women within fandoms don't notice this. We do and we're tired of the bullshit. Tighten up.

nawhun was bullied off tumblr. he joined to show solidarity with transmasc folks and particularly with trans men and butches. he was really inclusive with his language and posts. he publicly said that butches and nonbinary folks and others can start hrt and even have surgery if they want to affirm themselves that way. he made a few posts about the rainbow flag, and how he was concerned that the community was forgetting what the rainbow flag stands for. he was worried about the premise that gnc gay people ought to have a separate flag. because, the way he put it, he was worried about people feeling that they didn't belong under the rainbow flag because they were diverse in some way, so should have a separate identifier. he made a post saying that gnc gay people and gay trans people and gay brotherboys and sistergirls and everyone can use the rainbow flag if they wished. he literally said that, if a separate flag was affirming, then he supported it. he was just worried about the precedent of constant community division. he was worried that the rainbow flag would come to represent a less diverse slice of the gay community if this division continues, as though being a gnc gay person hasn't always been central to gay communities.
he also made posts about the distress of finding a multiple labels to describe yourself, and said that he supported microlabels for people who vibe with them, but that he also cautioned people to not box themselves in, too early in the questioning process. he advocated for people to take their time. he made posts really honestly and with kindness, and tbh, it was really refreshing. he wasn't a troll or looking to start fights.
on the basis of this, he was labelled an exclusionist. and more generally, since he made posts about being erased and silenced as a trans man, and particularly as a trans male victim of harassment, people were eager to shut him up. he was trying to insist that terfs target trans men too, and that transmisandry is a specific problem that needs to be addressed, just like transmisogyny is.
his mental health was plummeting, as he put it, and he messaged me to say he was considering harming himself. i told him to get off tumblr if the bullying had become so bad. worst of all, i think, was the debate about whether trans men are privileged by default. after everything he'd been through, seeing his struggles reduced to discourse was destroying him.
i doubt he'll be back. he'd only had the account for a few weeks, and in that time the tumblr community managed to engage in such bad faith, no matter how genuinely and earnestly he tried to phrase things.
I didnt follow him super closely and can't at all verify the exclusionism stuff (and seriously, I am not interested. I'm not going to hash out that drama.) but like, regardless, he did not deserve to be bullied off- and it's genuinely scary how quickly he was.
I hope he's taking care of his mental health and doing better now. I hope nobody else feels they need to leave this site and this conversation in order to protect themselves. I'm incredibly disappointed that the queer community- our community- has allowed so much hostility toward transmascs to go unchecked.
And I hope the folks who feel this way know they're not alone, and that there are lots of people who see their struggles and value their experiences as something far more important than "just discourse".

Let's talk LGBTQ+ erasure in the Marvel Fandom
Mischaracterization in fandom is a big problem, and it's something we see from every fanbase. A character gets boiled down into a few condensed traits and their nuance is washed out and forgotten. Fanonization isn't always inherently bad, and can lead to fandom solidarity and representation through headcanon, and this can sometimes eventually have influence on canon, which can be seen in the Homestuck fandom, where eventually slash pairings that received enough attention became endgame romantic pairings (Dave and Karkat, Rose and Kanaya, etc.). Of course I'm not here to discuss Homestuck today, I'm here to discuss the Marvel fandom and its toxic dudebro fans, as well as related topics that intersect with this issue.
There's a common mischaracterization problem in the Marvel fandom, particularly in relation to queer relationships and characters.
First example is Deadpool. Wade Wilson is described by his canon writers and creators to be omnisexual or pansexual, or of an otherwise fluctuating and open sexuality. The Deadpool video game wildly mischaracterized Wade and even made him behave in some homophobic ways, acting grossed out by men and homoerotic implications. This was jarring for me as someone who has read his comics and knows for a fact that Wade has multiple emphasized crushes on or at least attraction to other male characters, such as Spider-Man, Thor, Cable, and others. The game was very popular despite this mischaracterization and created a condensed fanonized Deadpool that is made into nothing more than an ultraviolent oversexualized joke, despite his character being the epitome of coping humor and having a very tender and compassionate side to him. It's known in the comics that Wade uses his humor to cope with his severe trauma, this doesn't mean he is just comic relief. This has gotten consistently worse since the Deadpool films. (I'm looking at you, shitty Wal-Mart DP t shirt that shows Wade holding a sign that says "oh I'm sorry did I offend you?" Which is really OOC imho)
Many of the more hypermasculine fans of Deadpool seem to have this false image of him being the epitome of "offensive humor" when in reality his trademark is Metahumor, not going out of his way to be a dick to people. These fans also often either ignore or aren't aware of Deadpool not being straight, portraying him as thirsting after buxom ladies but forgetting his openly admitted male attracted orientation which is just as obvious if you're not actively ignoring it. This is a grave mistake that takes so much from his character, especially in the case of the Deadpool/Spider-Man team up comics.
In that span of issues Wade went through an entire moral transformation, molding himself and his moral compass to earn the respect of Spider-Man, while unable to go more than a few pages without flirting with him. The things Wade goes through in order to Do the Right Thing by Spider-Man in any other story would be considered romantic. If a man did this much for a woman in a narrative of course no one would question the romantic subtext, but because it's two men, half of the fanbase has a kneejerk reaction to this concept and swear that Deadpool flirting is a joke. (Or that it's just "Bromance")
Yes, because apparently a man being attracted to a man has to be a joke. /Sarc
Wade and Peter are even canonically shown to be "heartmates" and this still isn't enough for the erasure to end, and ultimately I think this is because the fans guilty of this either didn't read the Deadpool comics and only know the movie or game, or they chose to read the comics through a straight washed lense, assuming all "gayness" is a joke.
It's made prominently clear in Deadpool/Spider-Man that Wade is probably in love with Spidey based on his actions, and truly every single interaction with him leaves more evidence to support this idea, especially when you look at his relationship with Shiklah and how not-good it was in comparison to his much healthier dynamic with Peter. Even with the knowledge of the ridiculous Peter Parker Policy (that states Peter Parker must always be portrayed as a straight white man in canon despite him being the embodiment of the underdog), one cannot deny Wade is attracted to Peter canonically. The only thing in the way of them being a pair is that they're both men and Marvel is too cowardly to make one of their most famous and family oriented characters queer, and that fans who aren't queer actively ignore the obvious subtext and narrative value of the Wade/Peter dynamic in the comics. Marvel has doubled down on this with the MCU by making Peter Parker WAYYYYY younger than Wade than he actually is in the comics (don't ship MCU spideypool folks, that's gross. Comics only. MCU Spider-Man is far too young even at 18), making it now impossible for us to see this dynamic on screen, because they're only capable of giving queer representation when it comes with an R rating, apparently (and they really didn't do that w Deadpool either tbh they stated that he's pansexual in some trailers but never showed much queerness in the films at all, even with Ryan Reynolds wanting to focus on Wade having a boyfriend at some point, it hasn't come to fruition bc Marvel is too scared to lose their rabid straight fans).
The same erasure can be seen in Venom, in relation to Eddie Brock and his undeniably queer relationship with the genderless, masculine presenting alien living in his body.
Eddie and Venom are portrayed and referred to as if they're married, Venom himself states that their bond is equivalent to a marriage, and Eddie calls Venom "love". Yet again, this is ignored by edgier straight fans who refuse to see the blatant truth about the characters.
Venom drops everything to be with Eddie, his purpose in life itself. He chooses Eddie over his biological purpose and has repeatedly been shown to do ANYTHING to stay with him, never wanting to be apart from Eddie.
After the release of Venom 2018 this relationship is receiving spotlight again, but not without pushback. Many fans seem to have the impression that this relationship is fan generated and accuse shippers of "hamfisting gay shit into everything" when in reality they're the ones hamfisting straightness where there is none, and erasing the canon in order to fit their personal interpretation, the very thing they accuse queer fans of doing. The same thing happens with Spideypool, with Stucky, with Symbrock, with Loki and Venom's nonbinary genders, with every LGBTQ+ hero or character in Marvel this can be seen as a pervasive problem. The elitist nerds who go out of their way to delegitimize other fans are often the least fluent in the source material they claim to defend.
This is both a result of toxic fandom, and of badly managed representation on the part of Marvel as a company. I'm by no means an authority on all things Marvel, but as a queer fan of Marvel properties, I feel this needs to be said.

Comic review time!

Some thoughts on the Harlivy section of “Love is a Battlefield.”
(Featuring crappy cell phone photos taken as I was reading it on a computer that is not my own, so proper screencaps were not an option.)
🍃💞 Spoilers follow. 💞🍃
Okay, so even though I had read some reviews that accurately called out the toeing-the-line style queerphobia that we so often get with these two Wives, I still went and bought this. I can’t help but hope that voting with our dollars for all Harlivy content that acknowledges them as together, even if they don’t explicitly show it, will lead to more content about them that is open about their love (”Kisses, please.”) ❤
On that note - I haven’t read the rest of the book yet, having jumped right to the section on my girls. But I have been informed that the hetero-presenting couples do get explicit smooches, and that is extremely irritating, in the face of what we got here. We do get a forehead kiss, some decent hand-holding and a very interesting ending (more on that below), but it’s all written in a way that the homophobes/queerphobes could write them off as Gal Pals, again, if they really want to.
To be fair, though, if I clearly spent my whole  adult life with someone in a more-than-friends kind of way, after “accidentally” getting into bed with them after they “accidentally” propositioned me as a joke, and then ended my elderly years with them the way this ended....... that’s gay, folks. Hands down.
That said, I did actually enjoy this story. It reads romantic to me from an asexual/demisexual perspective, which feels very Ivy to me, so that was kind of nice in and of itself (which doesn’t make the lack of obvious, undeniably physical-romantic evidence fair, per se, but we do live in a world that hypersexualizes everything, and this reads a bit like a Regency/Victorian romance in a sense, to me - with the tamer-than-usual standards of physical affection in public and the undeniable loyalty to each other, regardless. So yeah,  I couldn’t help but like the vibe).
Here’s some specific moments I have some thoughts on, for the good:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this one, and this dialogue, just struck me on a personal level because of how my Wife and I are together. She’s not very fond of people either, and my emotional breakdowns are a lot to handle, so I could see us here, and I appreciate that a lot. As always, the fact that Harley is ivy’s exception in her hatred of humanity never ever ever reads as anything other than romantic to me. There is an inherent queerness in that and I am Here For It.
Tumblr media
Again. “Accidentally” misunderstanding. “Accidentally” propositioning. You lived to touch *Ivy* again, Harls. That is specific language. Not to mention the fact that Harley touched Ivy enough to get a rash everywhere means that Ivy didn’t just shove her out of bed. Ahem.
And as always, the fact that Ivy made a point to immunize Harley against her toxins is also inherently queer, even without the language choices noted above. If she didn’t intend to follow through with physical romantic affection, she wouldn’t have needed to do that, in that moment or in the future - she could have just warned Harley off and been more careful around her, herself. So obviously, if you put any thought into this fact at all, it’s clear what the intention was.
(The problem is that many people don’t put any thought into it, so unfortunately we need more blatant evidence of their romance, over and over again, to shut the homophobes and denialists down. Which is SO FRUSTRATING, since no one ever questions if Bruce is with Selina, or if Clark is with Lois, whether they ship it or not - they admit that its there, regardless.)
Tumblr media
Including this brief moment because even though it’s subtle, Ivy reaching for Harley in a situation where they’re both in danger is a nice touch.
Tumblr media
And same thing, here. They’ve obviously been through a lot in the situation they’re referencing, and Harley’s instinct as her Pam-a-Lamb makes an uneasy alliance is to hold on to her. Solidarity, support. Protective, too, with the guarded look on Harley’s face. I like it.
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaand now we get to the bittersweet ending - I’m including this shot because, even though deathbed-side hand holding can be done platonically too, it’s obviously not platonic here if you weigh it against what we’ve already seen. This is the love of Ivy’s life, dying in front of her, and it’s intense. You can see in in everything - her posture, her expression, the fact that she’s folded Harley’s hand into both of hers.
But then:
Tumblr media
Instead of getting very emotional about it, Ivy has already (and of COURSE she did!) come up with a solution. I’ve seen this referenced as them choosing to die together - but that’s not how it reads to me, at all. I see this as them choosing to live again, taking the chance at a brand new start.
Ivy doesn’t want to die here, but she doesn’t want to live, as she is, without Harley in her life. If they hadn’t done this? Ivy would have passed away too, eventually - the fact that she’s aged right alongside Harls is evidence of that. And then they’d be at the mercy of whatever afterlife may or may not be there - maybe not even reunited in death, if there’s an afterlife at all.
So of course she leans on science, she leans on the Green, to give them both another chance.
They’re choosing life. And they’re choosing it in the face of the uncertainty of memory loss - what if they don’t feel the same, in their new forms?
But then Harley says this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How can I not love that?  💞🍃🌱
(Also, fanart will be coming of their new forms - since we didn’t get that, what the hell DC - if/when I’m able to get to it. I’m very busy, but the idea of this new life for them is captivating.)
(In the meantime, more of my existing Harlivy work is available here, among other meta and inspiration posts.)
(And my original comic work is available here.)
Thanks for reading!

Journey with Joseph: Solidarity amid Uncertainty
A church invited me to preach for them on the first Sunday after Christmas -- and because I knew this church is composed mainly of white cishet folks who are pretty centrist in their views but open to learning, I decided to focus my sermon on Joseph as an ally (or co-conspirator)! I imagine Joseph as a powerful role model for those who strive to be in solidarity with marginalized communities to which they do not belong and whose experiences they can never fully understand. Let me know what you think :D
For the sermon transcript, go to this google doc.
And for more on the concept of Joseph as a role model for allies of trans folk in particular, check out my podcast episode 32, "A Queer Nativity: God's transition; Mary's trans-gressive yes; and Joseph's trans-formation into an ally.”
_______
Sermon Excerpt:
When I hear of Joseph’s plans to cut things off with Mary after she goes against his expectations, what jumps to my mind is the myriad of stories I have heard from queer friends about reactions to their coming out. I have some such stories myself: loved ones who respond to our hopeful joy, our vulnerable news, with tears, anger, dismay.  “I feel like I don’t even know you anymore!” “If you follow this path, you aren’t welcome in my life.”  There is often the same sense of betrayal that Joseph must have felt. “How could you do this to me?!” parents or partners will demand...as if we have decided to be gay or trans or bi just to spite them, just to hurt them.  But the good news of our queerness is no more about them than the good news of Mary’s pregnancy was about Joseph -- it was news she longed to share with Joseph, to delight in with him…..but he felt he couldn’t be part of it. He did not believe her when she said it was all brought about by God.   He assumed God’s will was for him to cut her out of his life, to leave her by herself. But of course, God’s will isn’t always what we, any of us, assume it is.
As Reverend Tim vividly preached on a few weeks ago, God sends an angel to visit Joseph wrapped in the soft darkness of dreams. This holy messenger tells him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife, because her baby was conceived -- queerly enough -- not with any man involved but through the Holy Spirit. Mary is the faithful young woman he had known her to be -- this transformation does not change that. Indeed, she is as faithful as any a human could be -- daring to say yes to God even if it meant disgrace in the eyes of the world.
What makes Mary extraordinary is that she is immediately on board with God’s plan -- after just a couple clarifying questions, she immediately sees and understands what role God is asking her to play in God’s revolution, an unfolding that will lift up those who like her are poor and oppressed and pull down the rich and powerful to the same level as everyone else.
What makes Joseph extraordinary, meanwhile, is that when he incorrectly assumes the will of God, he is open to changing his mind.
...I can only imagine how awkward and anxious he felt when he approached Mary to ask her if she would still have him, after what he’d said to her in response to her coming out, her good news. He likely admitted he still didn’t really understand, that he still had a lot of questions, but that he’d like to try, if she could find it in her to forgive him.
And Mary, being truly very full of grace, does welcome him back into her life. And from that day onward, Joseph is as good a partner as anyone could ask for!
When his little family needs shelter, he knocks on every door in Bethlehem and will not be turned away until a stable is finally offered for them to crash in. When Mary is in the throes of labor pains with no midwife to be found, I imagine that Joseph scrambles to gather water, and clean straw, and he kneels beside her, lets her squeeze his hand till it hurts as she gives birth to the Creator of the Universe.
And then the shepherds come to worship -- worship! -- the newborn infant that Joseph wiped the blood and gunk away from!  They worship Jesus, and Joseph wonders what on earth he’s gotten himself into -- but whatever it is, he is ride or die now. He is not going anywhere….
...Except, of course, to the temple! We’ve made it back around to today’s reading at last. Joseph is, above all else, a good Jew -- and that matters; that must be emphasized, in our own time that is still rife and rotten with antisemitism, where hate crimes against Jewish communities have risen yet again this month.
Joseph was a good Jew, above just about anything else we could say to describe him; the parents of Jesus Christ obeyed God’s instructions for their people as laid out in the Torah, and for them that meant ritual washing and sacrifices. Note one interesting point, however, about the ritual washing -- here’s the part in the Gospel reading: “When the days of their ritual washing were fulfilled according to the torah of Moses, Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.”
“The days of their ritual washing,” plural. Mary’s and Joseph’s washing, together. The Torah of Moses, specifically Leviticus 12, requires only the one who gave birth to ritually wash themself. But Joseph joins Mary in this ritual. Why?
Perhaps it’s a show of solidarity with Mary -- a way for Joseph to show that whatever she underwent, he would go through too. When she goes through the pain of childbirth, he is there to ease her along, providing shelter and a hand to squeeze. When she goes through her ritual washing, he joins her, because her needs are his needs, her faith is his faith. ...

Anon you got into Ted Lasso here! Just finished 2.01.
Do we ever learn how Trent's daughter Serafina handled being biscuit-less? This is what the people deserve to know.
I assume Keeley and Rebecca are definitely in a lesbian-centric throuple with Roy by the end of s2 and I refuse to look it up. (Can women be friends? Yes, as long as they also fuck. -- me, queen/king of lesbians and wlw everywhere. Trust me; I was voted in.) Anyway, looking forward to their passionate kiss with tongue any minute now.
I already know Nate does bro crimes. Reading the Discourse™, my opinion boils down to: there are way more south Asian folks in the UK than this casting job would indicate. But also, I'm glad they started his negative character development arc by being cruel to someone below him on the hierarchy. Since Ted and Beard have encouraged his cruelty on multiple occasions, and ignored his posturing in 2.01, I personally think they have reaped what was sown.
I hope he gets a chance to redeem himself in s3. If Rebecca can, Nate should get to. (But I also don't know the full extent of the bro crimes.)
Trent has only had like six lines so far but I miss him sooo much.
DANI ROOOJAS!! Boy, they don't give him much of an internal life, huh? I love him anyway. I hope he starts all of his mental breakdowns in bed with multiple women. He seems like a boy who knows how to make it good for everybody and doesn't mind when his x-some partners are more interested in each other.
Re: Jamie. Normally, I LOVE a mean, sad pretty boy with daddy issues (💖 Dean), but he's so boring.
Ted. I love that they don't make him perfect. He's such a sad divorced man. I want him to give Trent every mustache-related fantasy gay men have for whatever reason. wlw/mlm solidarity.
SAM!!
I haven't talked enough about my great idea (i.e. Rebecca and Keeley should f--
Hello anon I’m sorry I took so, so, so long to answer you!! I’ve had a very tiring few months with lots of work 😩 I’ll put everything you sent under the cut here!
First to reply to the above ask — NO WE NEVER FOUND OUT ABOUT THE BISCUITS. Although I’ll be honest/cynical (which is the tone of most of my replies here, apologies) I’m pretty sure this wasn’t planned out as more than anything but a joke about James Lance having a daughter that age.
Hahaha, I think most of the fandom is on the Jamie/Roy/Keeley train I don’t know if I can see Rebecca and Roy together at all (no…) but Rebecca/Keeley for sure!!!
I agree that Nate should definitely redeem himself. Seems ridiculous if he doesn’t. Although he’s also gone so far unnecessarily and in a sort of irredeemable way in some cases.
OH MY GOD YEAH TRENT NOT BEING IN S2 VERY MUCH WAS SO DIRE. I was impatiently awaiting his arrival on screen every week.
100% agree with your assessment on both counts. Firstly that Dani Rojas should have more complexity and is a weird cartoon at the moment but also he DOES seem like a very generous and emotionally healthy person for a relationship like that.
Interested to see if your opinion on Jamie changed! Personally I’m pretty neutral on him overall but he definitely became a more enjoyable character through Season 2.
I definitely agree that Ted NEEDED to be imperfect as did his method of teaching, but I don’t know if they’ve dived into the right angles of ‘fixing’ the gaps in his method yet (if Nate is meant to be Villain forever, etc., if the show will blame Nate and not Ted for that character arc)
Hahaha many people agree with you there!
I JUST FINISHED 2.03 AND I’M SO PROUD OF SAM BUT SO WORRIED THAT HIS GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO RETRACT HIS VISA OR SOMETHING JGSKSKGS. It was nice to see Sam being able to express his politics without being abandoned. It’s such a fantasy world but it’s good to see glimpses of it from the corner of your eye.
It’s not totally beyond belief but it’s certainly very very heartwarming to see even in fiction. Actually if I’m cynical I feel like it’s not THAT unlikely in real life, if the PR department of a company figure they can get media attention and brand loyalty through defying a well-disliked Moral Evil, that might net them more profit than loss.
Nate: Hi I'm growing more abusive every day. Ted and Beard: We've decided not to address it. This will have no repercussions whatsoever. But I really hope that he's allowed to move on and grow from whatever he did. I think power, money, and fame scramble brains; we're all vulnerable to it.
Yeah for sure, I’d be pretty shocked if Ted Lasso the show never brought back Nate over to ‘the good side’. I figure he’ll probably have a redemption arc where he betrays Rupert just before or during a match between West Ham and Richmond next season.
Also. I could Not watch Led Tasso. No idea what happened, and I never will learn, God bless.
😅😅😅
I didn't read all about the black woman therapist stuff (planning on reading the Discourse after I'm done) but I like Dr. Fieldstone a lot. The way the actor plays her feels so anchored in reality that the exaggerated/TV-sized personalities become cartoonish. I'm also not supposed to eat sugar, so I extra enjoyed the biscuit scene. Yes. Undermine the overly-friendly man who assumes he knows more about your body than you do. Make him question everything.
Yeah that’s true, I think Sarah Niles very realistic and understated in her acting!
Trent looked so good. I don't know if Ted noticed but I saw and I think he's gonna get that man. Also, congrats to Sam for making Trent realize there are other stories he'd like to cover.
kjsdflksdlfkjs yeah I think the Trent Crimm look is just very good, just on a character level it’s SO distinct!
Okay, I've put off the next ep long enough. Surely they won't put a deportation story line in Apple TV's flagship show about hope and kindness, Ted Lasso...
Certainly not, the writers seem to sort of MOSTLY exist in a very post-racism post-homophobia post-local-politics world which I have mixed feelings about. But that makes sense for Apple’s flagship show which needs wide appeal.
sorry I don't know anyone who watches this
No no it’s fine!! I enjoyed all your commentary.
LMAAOOO STANDING UP TO FAKE DUBAI AIR BUT ALLOWING NESTLE PRODUCT PLACEMENT. I know it’s Apple TV™ but still
Exactly 🙄
I am. FULLY on Nate's side. GO evil, baby. BETRAY them. WHISPER SECRETS INTO THE EAR OF THE KING, or whatever. Ted: We have to forgive Jamie and bring him back because he doesn't have a very nice daddy. Nate: He tormented me. Ted: Mhm. Nate 10 times a day: I made the fact that I'm unloved and disrespected into a joke, haha. Ted: Beard: Leslie: Nate: Yeah, alright. Nate: I hate myself and you remind me of everything wrong with me. Therefore, I will be a huge jerk. New Kit Man: Okay. Ted: Beard: Dr. Fieldstone who is like down right down the hall: Wow, another free hour of time. It's unfortunate that there's literally no one left to help. That no one feels overlooked, unwanted, and unloved. It's TOO BAD there's an anti-therapy culture here and certain people aren't encouraged...! Nate: I worked for hours and hours on my ability to do one simple, tiny thing that might win me a moment of your approval. Mr. Shelley: (I can't think of anything dismissive and mean enough.) Nate: Okay, I'm going to go SPIT ON A MIRROR which I literally just got done cleaning months ago, okay I'm breaking stride. My first job was as a maid fully 15 years ago and you know what?? I don't fucking spit on mirrors. Who DOES that. I get that it's a self-hating thing but PEOPLE HAVE TO CLEAN THAT, NATHAN. My original point was that he's once again harassing someone "beneath" him. It's just gross, Nathan. Then Roy comes back, and he's tall and beautiful and in a better suit, and everyone knows his name. Of course Nate joins the Sith. To be clear, I'm not suggesting that what he's doing is acceptable. It's just that, wherever he goes, no one on the good vibes good time lovey dovey team stopped him.
No I think for sure the extent to which Nate has been ground down is overlooked, but I think importantly it is a bit of a like… nobody did that INTENTIONALLY to Nate. Idk I do feel like the writing really missed here for me for a variety of reasons, I’m on Nate’s side but only because I’m so annoyed at the racism of it all. They COULD have tapped more into the likely reality of the situation (Nate being overlooked and not paid attention to historically and even when he has power because of his race height etc as part of it vs. Conventionally Attractive White Men) but of course Apple TV doesn’t go that far...
Anyway. How long am I gonna have to watch Keeley beg for Rebecca's strap? She needs it, Rebecca.
🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 lmao I mean. I’m sorta neutral on Rebecca/Keeley because unless they do something about it, that one suggestive line really does tie into the Homophobic Joke train that I am uncomfortable with wrt Ted Lasso esp. with that Keeley bit in the last episode...
Please note that I genuinely love Ted, Beard, et al. I get that they can't be 100% on top of things all the time, and that this whole season is about therapy being important, and your friends aren't therapists, whatever. It's just that hearing someone say "I care about people with [problem], which is why I treat them differently to you," when you have [problem]? It makes you feel like what you experience isn't real or that you don't have it bad enough or that your emotions just aren't worth bothering about. A kissaroo from me to Ted Lasso, is what I'm saying. I contain multitudes.
Hmm, do you mean that Ted shouldn’t have treated Nate any differently anyway, even if he knew about Nate’s compounding issues? Maybe! Although I guess everyone requires different treatment because everyone is unique too.
Alright, next ep! kdkgdkgzkfskfzlgobllgx HEETTYY GUESS WHO JUST MADE A TINY SAD DIVORCED BOY FACE AND IS 100% MY ANGEL BABY SWEETIE PIE HEARTBEAT DARLING ANGEL KITTEN AGAIN. Also also also can you imaginneee Sam/Rebecca they would be SOOO cute. It’s not going to happen because he’s like 21 but still. They’re so compatible and he’s SO GOOD AND SWEET and!!! she supported him!! even though it cost her money!! So I trust her with his precious heart. Obviously I trust her more with Keeley--
Ha. Well. Great message to read with hindsight.
Nate pattern continues! So he's only visible and worthy of praise and affection when he does something impressive. Twitter, of course, is a corrupting force and must be stopped. But it's like Ted said. We've met Nate's parents, so we know why he's broken. This WHOLE season has been designed around breaking him more. Like I just feel like you're not as vulnerable to Twitter brain rot when you were seen and understood and loved by your family, you know?
Yeah of course!
Can you BELIEVE? I actually liked seeing Jamie on my screen.
I see the S2 Jamie effect is taking hold haha!
Also, Beard is dating my ex. Much love to you, Beard. I wouldn't have listened to Leslie Jr., either.
So sorry for you for having to deal with that then. Although unsure if Beard is meant to end up with her or not honestly.
Also, your icon gives me Rebecca/Keeley/Morgana brain rot. Forget conquering France; they'd take over the moon.
I think definitely any media property couldn’t handle Morgana and Rebecca in it at the same time.
He was mean to Will who still has chubby baby cheeks and now his evilness is evil for real. :( BUT MORE IMPORTANTLYYY Trent Crimm The Independent oh my GOD he dates little string bean mustache men that have a favorite 10-key calculator and can't dress. Ted is his TYPE. I've seen the gifsets of Ted walking away from Trent in his butt-huggin' khakis. I know in my heart he was consuuumed with lust. Trent Crimm The Independent probably ONLY dates divorced men. If you're not 40+ don't even look at him. He wants them a little pathetic and a LOT obedient-- (a shepherd's hook pulls me off the stage
SDLFKJSDFLKSJDF yeah. yeah. Eternally asking why they bothered to put that in if not— but no, this is Ted Lasso. But—
I haven't talked about Roy, but I love him. Kiss kiss. He treats Keeley well and gives her so many orgasms.
He does! Although I found him a little same-y and annoying in Season 2 in contrast to everyone else. His and Keeley’s storylines just went absolutely nowhere.
Dr. Sharon I am free on Thursdays are you free on Thursdays when I'm free ma'am? Doctor? Doctor ma'am?? I promise I am sooo normal haha Me after seeing Coach Beard address A situation: YEAH!!! Me after Nate apologizes publicly to Colin: Hmmm, good start Me after he's mean to chubby baby cheeks: 😱😱😱😱😱
You know the other heterosexual swing the show could take is Ted/Sharon (unethical!) your love IS under threat from more fandom/writing 😱 Yeah uhhhh Nate just got nastier and nastier. Unfortunately.
Sam/Rebecca continues to be a very strong mixed gender ship... Congratulations to Ted Lasso for making me want multiple sets of men and women to interact more, and even romantically. Wild how much I care about all of these weirdos.
I agree I actually really enjoyed their relationship as it was portrayed on the show!
Guy who's only watched Supernatural recently voice: Haha I know this is crazy but do you think sometimes people plan TV shows?
Well. In fairness I vastly prefer Supernatural to Ted Lasso which might be the only defence of the pantser vs. plotter approach I ever make.
Ted, if you leave a stew on your stove overnight, you'll burn down your house. :( :( :( See what Ted needs is a mean divorced 4 divorced gay ma--
So true but laughing that you noticed the pot on the stove at all
LESBOPHOBIA??? MY CRUSH JUST GOT HIT BY A FUCKING CAR "I don't have a husband." Yeah you don't 😏 This ep was wlw/mlm solidarity. Thank you for taking care of my future wife, Ted Lasso.
Yeah although that like. Mistaken boyfriend thing is SUCH (an overused and lazy) trope for setting up romance. Why put that in? Hmm. If they go the route of Ted/Sharon they’re going to piss off approximately 80% of their viewership but it did seem to me like it was being set up there.
I can't BELIEEEVE we got a Sam/Rebecca kiss TWO TIMES a Sam/Rebecca kiss. Is this how it feels when relationships develop on television? There's kisses and implied sex? I wouldn't know because, from what I learned yesterday, the great thing about making up funny little people for television is that they're always open for interpretation. You know what I mean?
lksjflkjaslkdfj what a way to timestamp this ask. 💀
Also, shout out to this fucking show for making me realize that Ted started taking care of his neighbor's dog who bit him once around the same time his dad killed himself. Shout out to the concept of taking care of little creatures when it's hard to take care of yourself. Shout out to pre-mustache Ted, who probably went by Teddy and had chubby baby cheeks. I need. Listen. Listen. People won't leave you if you make them happy, right? [static]
The backstory did explain a lot about Ted’s character, that much was signposted pretty well through the early show, I’ll give them that.
Apple Product Placement Count: I gave up like three episodes in. I hope all of Apple TV's shows are like this. I hope there's a show set in the '80s with some Apple nerd using insert name of original computer here so 1984 feels less like 1984.
It’s very funny that the core premise of the show is like ‘well the magic of iPads means Dad can have a job overseas and STILL connect with you, son!’
I don't understand how these are like, 35 minutes. SPN finale was 38 minutes and there were 12 montages. How did they play and lose a whole game? Also, is it weird to you when you watch shows with a budget? There are so many speaking roles and extras. Everyone has multiple changes of clothes. Characters kiss sometimes. Wild.
On my Supernatural Defence box because again I believe it’s a more enjoyable/lasting show to me than Ted Lasso (Season 2, at least) but certainly there ARE good Supernatural episodes… I don’t think Ted Lasso needs as much budget as it has, frankly, that money could be better spent elsewhere.
(The problem is, that one line from leupagus's masterwork replays in my head every time Ted has feelings: "No," says Trent, his mouth quirking. "That’s what made me want to shove my cock down your throat." Like what am I supposed to do, NOT think about Trent Crimm The Independent? Just because he's not in the episode? Just because he's not in the episode and it's extremely disrespectful?)
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I fucking love that we don't even see why Roy was sent to the bad boys box. We can imagine what he did to anger the ref. Also, I don't know anything about fancy soccer/football with rules that are enforced, so do they really put coaches in time out? Related: do the fans think it's cool nasty boy behavior, or are they like :o this is a job you are getting paid to watch people play a game do your job oh my gosh. Bridget, did you see what that football manager did? He did a cuss at a referee, whose job is to make sure people are playing a game right, which is very hard. How dare he, Bridget. Oh, I know, Todd. Makes me sick, it does. Those poor referees.
Do you know I have no idea. Although in general Ted Lasso The Show notoriously doesn’t actually have very good research or consistency on the soccer lore (which… the show isn’t about that, or narratively doesn’t NEED to, but still).
You ever watch an episode of television and think "hey wait a minute, this IS an artistic medium that's uniquely qualified to tell small stories in perfect clarity?"
Me watching Supernatural 😛
I think the next ep is the finale... Goodness. I haven't binge watched anything in years. Thanks for going through it with me.
I wonder if binging Season 2 would have changed my opinions of the season honestly. I did enjoy Season 1 thoroughly when I binged it. But there are some weaknesses in Season 2 I don’t think a binge experience would have fixed.
I just want you to know that I am one of those viewers/readers/whatever that just fully invests in the emotions of whatever. I'm SOOO gullible. If the protagonist is a demon whose goal is to destroy the veil between worlds and bring hell on earth, I'll root for them the whole time. Then after I'll be like "hey wait a minute, I live there." All of this is to say: 1. Sam is 21 and if this was reversed I would Simply 2. There are 11 minutes left in the funeral ep and I was wrong 3. IF THEY DO TED/REBECCA AFTER THIS I WILL S I M P L Y 4. What the fuck did Rupert say to Nate. Don’t touch him. That’s MY sad little man in the alchemical process of putrefaction so that the detritus around his soul can decompose and his essence can be purified by fire. You don’t fucking TOUCH Nate, Rupert. 5. I’m just. LITERALLY using Sam as a baby step to get back into dating. Literally literally literally. 6. TO REITERATE. IF SAM GETS HIS PRECIOUS HEART CRUSHED AND TED/REBECCA IS ENDGAME. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 7. Like I know that Sam’s characterization was very Happy African from the beginning. I know that. Unfortunately, I am not immune to smiling men who do their best (see: Ted Lasso, Dani Rojas), even when it’s trope-y and shallow (see: Dani Rojas). I get that a good portion of Sam’s storyline this season was designed to give the white characters a chance to be Good Allies (see: Jamie Tartt esp. but basically all of them). But it’s just sooo. Like. It’s so much more PERSONAL to use his feelings and his body.
I don’t think it’s ‘gullible’ to invest in emotions of characters at all! That’s what fiction is for. Even if they are a demon bent on destroying Earth. I can name anime where you empathise with a protagonist with the same premise. 1) is very valid yeah although at least he’s a consenting adult — the unethical part really is the employment/employee relationship, and the fact Rebecca has power over him. The age/maturity divide makes it unrealistic a relationship would work out generally if it were a real thing but… I don’t know, the way they depicted in the show was almost like ‘true love’ (like lightning, to wit!). Not sure what they’re doing there.
2) and 3) - lkdjflkasjdf if this is in reference to Sam/Rebecca yeah I don’t think they’re going to convince me on Tedbecca where there’s like no existing subtext in the show (to ME, although people disagree) and they’ve just put down this Big Damn Romance with Sam. 4) Well honestly as a Anthony Head / Rupert Supporter (for the fun of it) Nate is really the perfect person to use as a weapon. 5) and 6) yeah it’s bad :/ but again the show SEEMS to be like ‘this is true love unlike her other flings’ so REALLY unsure… ? Fandom/audience reaction is throwing me off my perception of the show in a vaccuum, if that makes sense. 7) Yeah I completely know what you mean, I still love those characters even if they wish they were less trope-y and shallow. And yeah on the Sam issue… well. I don’t know what’s going to happen. But Sam deserves more agency than he has had in the story, historically.
Again, there are 11 minutes left. HHHHHHHHHHHH. I guarantee you though that if they wink in my direction and don't shake their head when I mouth "me?" I will shuffle forward into the bear trap every time.
Well, gosh darn. Shoot. And heck! Got me again. Them writin' folks got me again. Gonna eat my hat, I tell you what. He IS just gonna get more wonderful but dagNABbit.
Oh no, my foot, it is in a bear trap. How did this happen? Who put this there? Why? Except--what's this! It's my distaste for the idea of a white woman getting in between a black man's sense of home and comfort, as well as material gain? My distaste has rusted the hinges of the bear trap!! It has fallen away!! OH, the skin is unbroken--a miracle!!--and I am SAVED by how completely, utterly unequal Sam's two options are.
I normally wake up in 30 minutes, but I haven't slept yet. Instead of commenting on All That, I would like to recommend 2 Pesewas. It's a great podcast hosted by two Ghanaian women. They talk about current events and give music recs. I really appreciate their perspectives on everything. Even when I've heard the story before, their angles are always new to me.
That’s a great recommendation, thanks so much! I’ve got a ridiculous podcast backlog at the moment to get through but hopefully I start doing a lot of podcast-involved chores and exercise in the next little bit and can get to trying it out.
Actually, one comment. Was his display of wealth extravagant: - because he inherited his money last month? - because he’s a billionaire? or - because he’s a wealthy African? It felt very fucking weird. I do think that performance was great, though.
Yeah the politics of this were like. Not great, I felt a bit weird about it. I guess ‘billionaires always bad’ not the worst take but ‘minorities with power trying to change the system are secretly part of it’ not the best take. The thing *I* found most egregious was how Ted Lasso was called out for racism by a villian, therefore making his ‘calling out’ invalid and our white hero remains pure. Which it shouldn’t have been!
Once again I must ask Rupert to fall into the sea and drown. Anyway TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT TRENT CRIMM INDEPENDENT CHECKED! OUT! TED'S! ASS!
LSKJFLKSDLFKJS. Come through S3!
He is sooo embarrassing lmao he was like "is anyone gonna meet this sad divorced man like 6 times privately before deciding to rearrange their whole life because he made you realize there are other possibilities?" but didn't wait for an answer. I!!! would love to hear your thoughts! And I will actually read the Discourse after I, you know, sleep.
I have nooooo idea what they were trying to do with Trent Crimm and what they intend on doing in the future but it is very romantic from that point of view! (And I hope The DiscourseTM didn’t ruin your experience too much!) (And very honoured you wanted to hear my thoughts on things!)
Also I think Nate's villain reveal was fucking cool. Good for him. Be evil!! Live a little!!!! Realize Rupert is using you and that your feelings of inadequacy are calls coming from inside the house!!!!!! THROW RUPERT INTO THE SEA, NATE. Inherit the club via falsified will. Build a mansion with your football club money and buy a silk velvet robe. Write out your memoir and sew the pages into the seams. Walk around in you empty house in your crinkly robe and revel in the way your problems followed you all the way here. They're so loyal, Nate. They'll never leave you as long as you keep the perfect environment for them inside you. Stay with them, Nate. Forever.
Scream I absolutely love this imagery thank you so, so much for this. I’m now in support of Victorian-Antihero style Nate ending!
I'm glad I went into this semi-warned, though. You're right; it was fucked. I especially didn't like the like, predatory/inept lover trope. Go and fuck yourself. Also, why does everyone apologize to Roy for what they did to Keeley?
Right? It was so unnecessary! And that is ALSO a great point I hated although in Nate’s case I suppose because (?) if I’m being generous the Keeley thing was more about the man Nate envied and wanted to be rather than Keeley herself (gross).
For the record, at this time tomorrow, I will be clocked in at work.
I’m so sorry I hope your schedule is all nice and readjusted now!
AHHHH okay that’s all. Except I’m so glad Sam stayed and didn’t make it about Rebecca. He’s right; there’s always a third option. Okay, bye, thanks for listening!!
Yeah although where they’re planning on going from here (and especially with the audience reaction to it all), I have no idea.
khxlhdlgydj so I read through some things. Me seeing Sharon in a corporate flat she hasn’t personalized at all beyond her alcohol bottles and sweet folding bike AND THEN she’s late to therapy which she doesn’t even go to, she has no excuse, like how hard is it to start a phone call on time AND THEN she's mean to pedestrians while riding her cool bike and listening to jams: Ohhhhhhh babygirl,, You: This is nothing to me. Who are you, Dr. Sharon Fieldstone? You're probably right re: the actual depth provided by the show itself. I am just very gay and love both disasters and bikes. To me, she seems like one of those professionally hypercompetent people who prioritizes work because she has control over it. Same reason she writes letters instead of saying goodbye. Also, she's gay. The "I don't have a boyfriend/husband" -> "is she gay?" rumors -> "gal pal brides only practice wedding" pipeline. I just made it up but it's real.
Ugh I HOPE she’s gay and I hope we get more from her next season but who knows!! Have no idea what they plan on doing with her character. She was really shafted for no reason at the end of Season 2.
I agree that Ted showing up at her place was incredibly boundary-stomping. Based on where he was, his actions make sense, but it doesn’t make them okay.
It’s always particularly egregious when Ted Lasso does something Not Okay and the show kind of excuses it or doesn’t address it, I don’t know I found this really confronting and weird behaviour that he got away with because he’s a white protagonist. Certainly I assume it’s the same here as the UK that following a therapist home is wildly aggressive behaviour you’d be justified calling the police over, although the show definitely was trying to portray it more as a friendship thing (despite the fact he was addressing her mostly as a therapist and not a friend).
Agreed, she largely existed to provide emotional growth for a white character. But like… Women. (I listened to the second NPR interview, but haven't read the first Slate article yet.
Oh definitely it’s cool to love characters even if they’re not treated very well by the show they’re in!
Also, thanks for letting me liveblog to you. I didn't realize that Nate specifically was such a tender spot for you; I went into this knowing he leaked something and wanted to figure out why. My innate love of fictional villainy, bastardry, and just being a bit mean on bad days then took over. With that stat that's like 7% of the UK population is Indian, his being the only one on the show is rough.
Oh no it’s okay, I don’t mind and I’m happy to discuss it! Honestly it’s just annoying to see it so uncriticised by reviewers/critics/fans/audiences; that’s the REALLY irritating part to me, that it’s just ignored.
I'm mostly sending this to say: if at any point my asks made you uncomfortable or lessened your enthusiasm about replying, there's no pressure to respond.)
It was a pleasure to receive the asks and reply to them!! Again I’m sorry it took so long - I just finished my semester this weekend haha. I’m glad you enjoyed the experience of Ted Lasso!

i saw that post from the girl who's girlfriend isn't quite ready to be out. if ur blog didnt seem to celebrate love of all kinds (and i'm not talking straight vs gay, i'm talking happy vs sad) i would have kept this to myself, but between ur response and the op's story itself, i think im going to take this chance of sharing a burden on my heart, maybe to help someone else, or just for the shot at becoming at peace with it. a couple weeks ago, when u asked for everyone to send u stories of their lovers, i wrote most of this out but didnt send it.
i (21F) am a college student (god, is this reddit?). my entire life, i have cultivated the cleanest good girl image that i could. my parents sacrificed so much for my sister and i to grow up far more comfortable then they did, so i have tried to honor them with a little golden child they could brag about. straight As, never missed school, did community service, perfect SATs. i worked tirelessly to be on-paper perfect.
one of the reasons i've worked so hard to earn Good Noodle Stars is to make up for the fact that i am terminally homosexual. i realized real early that i could literally cure cancer and the first comment on the news video will be, "okay, she cured cancer, but at least I'm not gay like she is." i could raise thousands for charity, and my aunts would still say, "our kids may not get off the couch but at least they have sex correctly." so they dont know. few people do, none outside my closest circle.
in walks Mars(21NB). Mars is an anachronism. they are both a romantic with and without a capital R. be still my Dark Academia heart.
we got very close before school broke for Covid. Mars wrote me a letter every other week, encrypted and folded so that the only way to open them was to rip a paper seam that would show if someone had tampered with it. it was intoxicating. it was the first time i felt able to communicate freely about anything. i dont know - i didnt hold back my emotions, emboldened by writing in cipher. i spent all summer waiting for those red sealed envelopes, filled with stories and poetry and honeyed nonsense, and i refused to not respond with mirrored passion.
it was all great until it set in that I was going to have to face Mars again, in person. i prayed our school would decide all students had to stay remote. of course I wanted to see Mars, i want to do much more than just see them, but i knew it would only be a matter of time between us being reunited and them asking me out.
this was a person who crafted a puzzle where the answers were flowers that were a declaration of fidelity in Victorian Flower Language. of course i ate that up with a spoon. u would have too. listen, i know all aesthetics are fads and all fads age badly, but if the cottagecore girls get to learn to sew and bake and grow, i owe dark academia for teaching me the vocabulary and actions of my most treasured relationship yet, and giving me permission to be earnest and vulnerable in this life for 10 goddamn minutes. Mars is handsome and a genius and i was not used to feeling connected to anyone. but for all that joy, i was also drowning with the thought of having to break their heart by explaining i cant date anyone AFAB.
so the semester starts. Mars asks me over for a homecooked meal since restaurants don't exist here at the end of the world. they made me a beautiful dinner with all my dietary needs in mind. just like everything else i ate it up. and i made no effort to stop them from inviting me over for food and conversation again and again and a fourth time just to make sure it really hurt.
they kissed me after the last dinner. and I kissed them back, before stopping. they apologized for moving too quickly, but i explained that they had moved at the perfect pace, just with the wrong person.
there is no nice ending to this. it's real life. Mars took it as a breakup and didnt reach out to me again. i sobbed from halloween to christmas, i swear. i'm the villain in this story.
i started this post off as a sign of solidarity to the other young lady, but now im realizing that this letter would be better read by her fearful beloved, not her. it is 4am where i live, so i apologize if this has all gotten away from me.
love is a garden u have to water yourself. ngl, my favorite part about this blog is all the posts about learning to love yourself, learning to see ur intrinsic value dispite the core facets of u that have been deemed flaws, and trust the relationship between me, myself, and i.
i started out telling myself i was writing this to help the high school kid, but i havent shared this with anyone. writing this out has helped me process a thing or two, or at least start to. i like this idea of lavendersage being a kindly cryptid who will alchemise ur heartache into calm.
i hope you dont mind if i try to make this a thing.
my story is in the shape of a love letter. its tearstained before it even hits the water. i drop it in your river and watch it float away.
y’all are breaking my heart with these stories this week 🤧i feel so sad to read them and so helpless to respond, because i know how deep that pain must run and i don’t know if there’s truly anything i could say or do to take it away. but if i can lessen it from 100 to 99, well, then i’ll have fulfilled my goal of existing on this website. at the very least, i’m glad that writing this message helped you process some things on your own, but i’m happy to share my thoughts anyway.
your mars sounds like a top tier human being. victorian flower language? i’m swooning. it’s no surprise to me that you fell for them, and they were clearly head over heels for you. folks don’t make grand gestures like that for just anyone, that’s for sure 🥺
and i’m very sad to hear about the way things ended. but, anon, i can’t help but wonder if it is indeed over, or if hope exists on the precipice of a great act of bravery performed by you--something i know from experience is much easier said than done, and something i’ve failed to do in the past, so i’m not trying to be a hypocrite here. the ball is definitely in your court, though.
also...it doesn’t sit well with me to hear you call yourself a villain. i understand why you see it that way, as it’s clear that you deeply care for this person. but for many folks...the fear of what our family will say or think or do weighs so heavily on us that it robs us of any possibility of happiness with someone who isn’t the kind of person our family wants us to end up with. i’m sure plenty of folks, myself included, can empathize with this. and i’m sure on some level, mars does too.
my love, as with all things, i hope whatever happens next works out for the best, and that you don’t let this experience darken your heart. if things change between you and mars, please feel free to drop me a note. i’ll always be here to listen 💚💚💚`

Is there any background info you can give on characters in WTSAU?
Like any cool hc you give the characters?
okay i have SO MANY 😩 but i can’t say all the best ones until later cuz they involve SPOILERS
so i’ll try to say all the ones i can with the information given:
Style:
- Kyle’s had feelings for Stan since he realized he was gay, which was in middle school. When Stan came out as bi he told Kyle first, before Wendy, even though they were dating at the time. Kyle’s insecurities prevented from acting on his feelings even after they broke up.
- Wendy has pegged Stan in the past, but Kyle is the first guy Stan’s ever been with. Wendy has come around to support their relationship since the events of ETL chapter 4.
- Stan is always the first one to say ‘I love you’.
- Kyle was the last one in their big friend group to lose his virginity, but he has one of the highest sex drives of the guys. He and Stan switch off being top almost equally, but Kyle prefers to top and Stan prefers to bottom. they fuck daily.
- When they want to have a hard, passionate fuck Kyle tops. when they want to have slow, emotional sex Stan tops. Kyle has slight sadist tendencies (inflicts pain) and Stan has masochist tendencies (receives pain). Stan is especially into breathplay (choking, face sitting, crushing, etc.) and assplay. he’s the best ass eater (so call him a bottom feeder 😂) and Kyle’s superior in the blowjob department.
- Stan has hyperhidrosis, meaning he sweats more than the average person. this is why their rooms/the truck/anywhere they fuck smells so strong. there’s a few hints for this in ETL/WTSAU, he keeps antiperspirant in his locker and in the truck, he gets really sweaty whenever they have sex. Stan also has asthma and acne, which Kyle’s been helping him treat. Kyle loves popping his zits for him.
- Conversely, Kyle is super hygienic and always tries to keep himself clean and dry. when Sharon comes into Stan’s room in chapter 1 and describes the smell, the gym locker scent is Stan, the Old Spice is Kyle, and the ‘inside of a rubber balloon’ is their latex lubricant.
- Everyone at school considers them the obnoxious, overly romantic couple. they hold hands, cuddle, kiss, and dirty talk in front of everyone. they think they can get away with it without people noticing but they’re chronically conspicuous and not stealthy. the working title for the fanfic was actually ‘Ain’t Slick’ for a while before it changed to What They Say About Us!
- they’re fucking devoted to each other and are exclusively monogamous. Stan is especially protective of Kyle and Kyle is fiercely possessive of Stan.
- Kyle applied as a math major in his college applications, and will eventually get a PhD for logic and set theory. Stan’s a bio major and wants to go into physical therapy.
- Stan doesn’t smoke weed out of principle (because of his dad) so Kyle also doesn’t smoke in solidarity.
- Kyle is a type 2 diabetic, and doesn’t need to always take insulin. his weight gain began with the World of Warcraft episode and was maintained instead of lost like in the show. his weight is a cyclical feedback loop of: genetics (mom’s side of the family), too much insulin (when using insulin therapy), and diet. this led to him developing lordosis (excessive weight warps his spine) so he didn’t grow as tall as he would have, and makes his weight appear more exaggerated. short stature, weight, and body image issues led to quitting basketball which in turn contributes more to his weight. this impacts his self-worth which leads to stress eating. his biggest fear is that he’ll never stop gaining weight and will end up as big or bigger than Cartman.
- Stan has gained a few pounds since he started dating Kyle, while Kyle has lost a few.
Cutters/Bunnyman/Kenrietta:
- Kenny is straight, but has voluntarily sucked dick before. he and henrietta have hooked up a few times in the past after running into each other at poetry slam events which Kenny takes Karen to.
- Butters and Cartman are exclusively gay, and think girls are fucking gross. they’ve only every slept with each other.
- Kenny, Cartman, and Butters are all best friends and do pretty much everything together. even though Butters and Cartman are dating, Kenny never feels like a third wheel because they rarely act romantic in front of anyone (including him). however, when Style start dating and Cutters come out about their relationship, Kenny begins feeling like a fifth wheel.
- Butters lives almost entirely at Cartman’s house. His parents actually don’t mind because they enjoy not having him around. Liane is 100% the cool mom from mean girls who asks them if they want snacks or a condom. Sometimes all three of them crash at Kenny’s house for variety (or when he has to watch Karen because his mom is drinking/out of the house).
- Kenny wants to study psychology in college and become a family therapist or social worker. he’s taking a gap year to save money then going to community college. Cartman and Butters applied to the same schools and plan to stick together long-term.
- Butters and Cartman’s relationship started as experimenting with each other as their sexualities developed, and began after Cartman confided that he had sexual feelings for Kyle. Cartman and Butters have also developed genuine feelings for each other, and overtime their relationship transformed into what it is now. because of how their relationship started, they’re very open about any sexual feelings they have for other people and have a ‘hall pass’ for friends they’re allowed to fuck if given the chance, without it considered cheating.
- Butters is a huge gossip. he will promise to keep secrets and then immediately turn around and tell Cartman--which totally happened after Kyle said he thinks Stan has a crush on him in ETL chapter 2. Butters and Cartman keep nothing from each other, and the only secrets they won’t tell are the ones about each other.
- Kenny is the easiest of the larger friend group to confide in, and keeps every secret he’s given. he’s known Cartman and Butters have been together since the beginning, about Cartman’s crush on Kyle, and Kyle’s crush on Stan. People naturally come to him for advice and to vent. The least likely person to confide in him is Kyle, who’s more likely to curl in on himself instead of expressing his feelings.
-SO much shit about Cartman and Butters’ relationship I can’t say yet because it comes up in the fic 😩 please ask me about these two again later when i can say more!!!
Creek:
- Tweek is a dom top and Craig’s his catamite. they try to get away with sex anywhere they can and have gotten very stealthy because of it. Tweek also has one of the highest sex drives of their friend group, and Craig will let him do whatever he wants anywhere, anytime.
- Tweek is constantly high on stimulants (cocaine, meth, adderall, etc.) and Craig experiments with him in certain settings. this is what gives Tweek his boosted self-confidence and flippant attitude.
- Pete Thelman (hair flip goth) is their coke dealer. Tweek trades him his ADHD meds for it, which Pete resells to posers. If Tweek doesn’t have enough to cover the cost he and Craig make up the rest by giving Pete sexual favors. sometimes they have threesomes for fun too.
- Tweek and Craig both think Kyle is hot and would fuck him given the chance. being open about this with each other makes them feel closer and strengthens their relationship. they have roleplayed as Stan and Kyle in bed before while high out of their minds.
- they're deeply in love and would do anything for each other. Craig could get Tweek to stop taking drugs if he wanted to but right now they enjoy experimenting with them together. in the words of everyone who know them, ‘Tweek and Craig are perfectly fucked up for each other’.
Kyle’s family:
- Sheila’s biggest regret as a parent is letting Kyle get fat, because she was also overweight as a kid and dealt with the same issues he does now. It’s the same reason she feels obligated to help Kyle’s cousin overcome his weight dilemma (by trying to get him and Stan to hang out).
- Ike is an eboy who loves lil peep. He, Karen, Tricia, and Firkle all make tiktoks together and complain about their gay older brothers/friends.
- random fun fact: If Ike and Karen get married that would mean Kyle and Kenny are brothers-in-law, which would mean the main five all end up as extended family to one another.
Stan’s family:
- Sharon has plans to divorce Randy but is waiting until Stan leaves for college to not uproot him from school and his friends.
- Grandpa Marsh is still kickin’ in the old folks home and Shelly’s off in college.
- Randy’s a narcissist who lives vicariously through Stan’s accomplishments in sports. the easiest way to explain it is: Randy’s not as proud of Stan for being a successful athlete and attractive jock as he is proud of himself for producing one. Stan’s ability to get laid with (he presumes) hot girls makes Randy feel like he has game too. one of the reasons he’s disgusted by Stan’s relationship with Kyle is if Stan’s fucking some big fat guy it doesn’t align with his narrative.
-
this is just the stuff i could think of off the top of my head, i’ll probably come back and add more to this as i remember it. ask me again in a few chapters!!! i have so much i want to say about bunnyman, cutters, the future for style, and their families that i can’t say yet!

Happy Pride, everyone! It's more important than ever to remember that while gay activism certainly didn't *start* with Stonewall, it's still hugely important, and it was very much a rebellion against police brutality. Some would call it a riot. The fight was spearheaded by black trans women and black lesbians. We owe them so much. *I* owe them so much. The only logical and moral thing for non-black LGBT folks to do is show solidarity with everyone still protesting state-sanctioned violence.
Donate to a bail fund if you can. Spread the word if you can't.
