GX Finalized-Subs!69 (WIP): Napoleon Toying Around
Just got to the halfway point with 69′s script and thought I’d show this little scene off.  It’s interesting because of how Napoleon throws the phrase “がってん承知の助" into his line above--while looking it up, I got the gist that the phrase basically makes a name out of its "understood!/leave it to me!" meaning (sorta in a “no way Jose” kinda way?), as well as it being a more Edo-era saying in Japan.  I saw the Crunchy team went with "eventual lemon tea" which... I don't quite get how they got there; maybe going for a slight “lemon tea”/”leave it to me” pun, but seems like a slight stretch, and nothing in the kanji sticks out as tea-related, lol.  (My original line here was more played-straight and just translated to “I’m already aware of that,” but it doesn’t quite work with the confused/groaning looks on Kenzan et al’s faces.)
Because of that “name-ification” of the phrase and its semi-dated reference, I thought the nod to LITB (as a show I’m sure most of us millennials/Gen-Xers might know from childhood) might be a good way to get it across, lol; for those more Japanese-savvy, would that be a good adaptation? I kinda like it myself, but it’s not too final yet. (The dub didn’t bother with it, really--Bonaparte talks about his “master plan” which confuses everyone, and when asked for thoughts, Jaden’s just all “this duel’s sweet!” which, okay sure lol.)
Also went with “the VP’s got jokes!” for Judai’s “he’s funny” line since he’s in a jovial/”just wanna have fun” mood most of the episode despite the stakes for the Red dorm lol (and “VP” as “Vice-Principal” shorthand lets the line register well while onscreen, imo, along with being a nod to the “VP Napoleon” shorthand I use in the credits).

CHANGING ALL OF THE UNDERSCORED AREAS IN A DOCUMENT OVER TO ITALICS
I was given a litigation document that has underscored case sites and pivotal words before the citations such as See, See also, See e.g., as well as the citations themselves being Underscored such as Jones v. Smith etc. The attorney has asked me to please remove all of the underscored text and to please change all underscored areas over to Italicised text. Keep in mind that this scenario could have been for any document that needed a wholesale switchover. You might be working on a book whereby you were using underscoring throughout and then you made the decision to switch to italics.
1. After doing much research, I figured out how to take care of this. Lucky for us, it did not involve a complicated wildcard sequence. I can tell you that many ”experts“ thought that this could not be done without doing it through VBA formatting, but I will now show you how easy it really is. Look at any legal brief that has used the Underscore Method for the case cites and pivotal words. Look at any document that is using underscore for certain items in your book and then the decision was made to convert the document over to italics. That is our mission for this write-up.
2. Bring up your Find and Replace Dialog Box. Use Control H.
3. In the Find What area do Control U. This will produce the word “Underline” under the word search. Very important! Note: l I DID NOT go to Format Font in order to produce the Underline.
4. In the “Replace With” area do Control U 2x followed by Control I. This will produce the word “Italic, No Underline” under the “Replace With” area. Note: Again, I did not go to Format Font.
5. By pressing Control U 2x, this acts as a toggle and produces the “No Underline” message in the “Replace With” area. So, we are searching for any text that is underscored and replacing it will italicized text and thus turning off all of the underscore. Works great!!!

Life in the Balance Review: LITB Book Tour
Tumblr media
I’m not usually one for reading sport stories, but this next story was so much more than that. Life in the Balance looks at the struggles of a young tween girl who’s having to struggle with the sudden news that her mom is suffering from alcoholism. It’s hard to read as an adult because Veronica is at a time where she truly needs her mother’s guidance, but is having learn adult lessons as a child. I won’t lie, this certainly wasn’t a story I was expecting to have such an emotional impact, and I definitely recommend you read it! I’m so glad to have been chosen for this tour by Turn the Page Tours, which you definitely need to go check out if you’d like the opportunity to review upcoming books of all genres! If you want a chance to win your own copy, stick around until the end to find out how to win!
Want to know more? Here’s some book info:

TITLE: Life in the Balance
AUTHOR: Jen Petro-Roy
PUBLISHER: Feiwel & Friends
RELEASE DATE: February 16th, 2021
GENRE(S): Middle Grade Fiction
Veronica struggles to balance softball, friends, and family turmoil in this new honest and heartfelt middle grade novel by Jen Petro-Roy, Life in the Balance.
Veronica Conway has been looking forward to trying out for the All-Star softball team for years. She's practically been playing the game since she was a baby. She should have this tryout on lock.
Except right before tryouts, Veronica’s mom announces that she’s entering rehab for alcoholism, and her dad tells her that they may not be able to afford the fees needed to be on the team.
Veronica decides to enter the town talent show in an effort to make her own money, but along the way discovers a new hobby that leads her to doubt her feelings for the game she thought she loved so much.
Is her mom the only one learning balance, or can Veronica find a way to discover what she really wants to do with her life?
Review:
This story is a very emotional journey from the start. You get to know a lot about Veronica’s life and relationships with her parents. She shares a passion for soft-ball with her mom, and though her dad works from home, he’s a pretty quiet guy, which makes it hard for Veronica to share things with. What becomes clear as the story progresses is that Veronica is looking for someone not only to share her struggles with (since she doesn’t want to bother her friend who’s going through her own hard time), and it’s about finding balance ( I see what you did there Jen, haha).
While Veronica is having to navigate all of these changes and it’s very difficult, her willingness to do whatever it takes to earn money for her tryouts allows her to find a new passion, which I really appreciated. Of course, it brings back the theme of balance, because now Veronica is trying to figure out what she loves more. However, there are positive influences coming from the educators at her school that do provide some guidance as she’s having to navigate it.
For whatever reason, the tween age seems to be a time of great emotional turmoil for everyone, and Jen gives an incredibly accurate depiction of the ups and downs that seem to come along with it. I think this story will be incredibly relatable for kids who have parents who have to attend some sort of rehab, or have familial conflicts that they’re trying to navigate. That being said, sometimes Veronica’s POV sounded a lot older than her years. It’s not a deal breaker because it only happens a coupe of times, but it’s something to keep in mind.
One of the best strengths of this book is the positive depiction of therapy, which I think helps breakdown the stigma that surrounds it, especially for kids. Overall, I think this is an amazing story and I definitely think this book is one that many of us would have benefitted from when we were younger. This story is a 5/5 for me!

Jen Petro-Roy writes “honest books with heart,” about kids who are strong, determined, unsure, struggling to fit in, bubbly, shy, and everything in between. She is the author of P.S. I MISS YOU, GOOD ENOUGH, YOU ARE ENOUGH, and LIFE IN THE BALANCE (out February 2021), all from Macmillan/Feiwel & Friends.
When she isn’t writing, Jen can be found reading, playing board games, belting out songs in the car to embarrass her two daughters, and working as an eating disorder awareness advocate.

Low Cost Empire Volume 16 – Creating An Industry From Your Book Marketing Routine.
•You are about to receive a system so valuable that your effort will enable you to mirror that of a major advertising agency.
•I am going to show you how to take your finished book and create an entire industry based on it for practically nothing.
•Don’t go by what you see within the Table of Contents alone. I intentionally excluded certain items from the Table of Contents. This will ensure that the book remains unique.
•The routine you are about to learn, will give you a system that you can use again and again for yourself or others. You may have a book that you just authored, but the book will be but a small piece of the whole. You will be well on your way to turning your book into an industry. Too many people write a book and don’t analyze the book, they don’t look ahead and examine the book for expansion. They do use most of their effort in pushing the book but leave out many a vital exercise in determining the true scope and value of the work they have just completed.
•I am going to cover in extreme detail how to go through an amazing system piece by piece. I write as if I am sitting right next to you.
•You should know that this is a “Teacher Connected Book”. This means you can reach out to me by email or by phone for any help pertaining to the chronology of using this system!
You have an advantage. I am a Legal Documentation Trainer, I know Intellectual Property Issues and have helped many a person with their Trademarks. I am well versed with Social Media and I have authored a number of books for MS Office, Business Start-Up and Marketing. You are in good hands.

F.A.Q
How much is samples in MPPJ/WWA?
Very little. Apart from the obvious ones - Soul Stabs from Wind Sections, James Brown Shouts - there are other parts which is turntablism, I’m using a Vestax PDX 2000  - is all played my me, using Midi and a keyboard, or programmed. People think that album is all Samples, it's all played by me, apart from about 4 sounds, and the obvious ones.
Is that you playing guitar in the outros of the last two songs? (Anaheim and Ladies in the bathtub)
It's me playing - and in most of LITB - my Jazzmaster and a SG Epiphone, which I had to sell.
What's with the Mastering?
GIAM was the place where I was going to release (youtube, bandcamp, etc) b-sides, rough mixes, songs from way back, and final home mixes showing part of the immensity of stuff I work on, but I couldn’t find a Mastering Engineer in Venezuela (Venezuelans can't expend money outside it's border) - I’ve had this idea (GIAM) for quite a while now.
In 2008 when I released my first Home Produced album, which I mixed it in a very noisy environment, up to the point where I was not gonna go thru with it because I couldn't mix it, the mids were being juiced too much compensating for the noisy environment, I dealt with it the best way I could at the time, and then almost shelved it indefinitely because I couldn't find a Mastering Engineer.
I met a couple of people who said they did Mastering, or that they were “Mastering Engineers”, "Professionals", but I quickly grew weary. In one occasion I visited one to talk about my Mastering, what I needed, but after a unsolicited tour of a one room studio, tracking and mixing room, which took about 2 hours, it was confessed to me, that he wasn't a "Real" Mastering Engineer, but a Mixing Engineer who bought a "Mastering Plug-In". So that did not encourage me, as he was a very known "Professional" in Venezuela. I had just arrived from Madrid a couple of months before where I knew Professional Musicians, Professional Sound Engineers and Professional Producers.
I had about 3 or 4 similar experiences after that before I simply got tired of all of that. I looked for a drummer to no avail for about 4 years, and I knew a lot of musicians in the Caracas, Venezuelan music scene.
I had contacts outside Venezuela, but with absolutely no way of sending any amount of money outside Venezuelan borders, that option couldn't be realized. So having songs with peak differences of 6 Dbs, a super noisy environment, and not having Mastering Tools, I practically butchered the Mixes I had done trying to Master them in a very noisy environment, and they were good mixes, besides the mid situation that I dealt with it and the super noisy environment. Even tho I studied it in SAE Madrid (Mastering, Mixing and Tracking, and other stuff), in a G-Series SSL Console and a couple others, Tape and Digital, and done it a couple of times in a Professional Environment, I can't Mix and Master. And usually I'm mixing all day and all night when I'm active making music 15 hours a day or at least 8 or 10.
So instead of not releasing anything in 10 years, I came thru and released how I could what I could and very little amounts of material.
Any release had plans of going physical?
MPPJ/WWA was going to be released in Vinyl, pressed in the UK, with a different Mastering from a Digital release, done for the grooves, the digital release was also getting a different Mastering done, worked from my good sounding Mixes (Not what we hear today which is my Mastering) but again, funds could not be sent outside Venezuela. I had the funds (all my savings I had at the time), but no way of sending them to an UK account, or an overseas account.
FTP was unmastered and the songs were Rough Mixes done in 3 days for an online publication in 12 dollar speakers, and in SIMH I tried to bring all tracks to the same volume using a compressor, in the same noisy environments, using 20 dollar Speakers (the same ones I used for Mixing), I couldn’t discern a thing, so I was doing all types of guessing where the frequencies where and using analyzer freebies, but the sound is there. Tho it needed Mastering. It was mixed in about a week and a half from the rough mixes. Then I took 5 or 6 days bringing em all to a similar volume. Then I was so tired I slept for 2 weeks and then no way I could finish that release if I had postponed it, bc I had been doing music, all types, for about 2 years non-stop.
I have an insane amounts of tracks, which I’m shelving for future use (mostly almost finished in the music side, and rough mixes, partly bc a painfully slow and not resourceful computer). Which some of them were intended for release in GIAM, but the Intelligent Mastering Plugin I got a hold on, which basically Masters tracks for you, sounds too zeitgeisty, and I was thinking that was not gonna be the case, I was not gonna release my songs with that sound, so instead of releasing stuff I really like musically and how the Mixing is done, but don’t like the Mastering, being loud, kicking-in competing in the loudness war, brittle, shrill, thin, distorted, I decided to hold it for now.
I lost about 3 years of work, guitar, midi, songs with lyrics, demos, rough mixes when the only backup disk I had went blank, Venezuela and Caracas City wasn’t providing good remunerated work, or anything really. So what I made Djing I spent it in Taxis from and to my Gigs, hailing Cabs in the streets after long walks, unofficial pirate Taxis in one the most dangerous city of the world, at 3 am, 5 am, with all my gear, until I couldn’t afford even that, then I couldn’t afford guitar strings.
Then I started digging hard in the Home Studio, after studying thoroughly my situation, learnt to really play MPC’s, using every aspect and option of them (500 and 1000) and handle Midi Messages, Midi Standard and Sysex, and all of that as much as I could, up to the point where I’m comfortable creating and recalling a full personal custom session with midi sound modules and midi capable gear (reverbs, delays, etc), and changing settings in the song I input in Hardware Midi Sequencers or in a DAW (Change reverb length, delay feedback, change sound waves in midi sound modules, every setting imaginable), dug again Music Theory hard and deep for about 10 months (I did about 8 months of Jazz Studies in Madrid some years back, mostly Piano and beginner music reading - sight reading and writing - ) , and now is 2018 and we keep on going...
