Lesser known small mammals (or mammals whenever i bring up people have no idea what im talking about)

Quoll ..a carnivorous marsupial native to Australia that spends most of the day sleeping in its dens. there have been 111 recorded events of quolls eating human remains (x) (pictured here is a spotted-tail quoll)

Numbat..an insectivorous marsupial from Australia that is diurnal (or is primarily active during the day). unlike other mammals that primarily eat termites, they have a jaw with 50 very small teeth. they live in tree hollows and block the openings with the thick hide of their rump

Hyrax ..a small thickset herbivorous mammal that is more closely related to elephants and sea cows than pikas and marmots. theyre found in africa, and they have rubbery paw pads that help them climb up rocks (this is a rock hyrax)

Solenodon... a venomous, insectivorous little mammal that is easily provoked into a frenzy of squeaking and biting. it uses echolocation to compensate for its poor eyesight, and females have two teats almost located on its backside (above is a cuban solenodon)

Sengi (elephant shrews (or better known as the get a look at the snout species))...is another insectivore that is more closely related to elephants than true shrews. they live in southern Africa and have relatively large brains for their size (a respectable 11 inches) (this is a black and rufous sengi)

Tenrec..omnivorous little mammal that lives in land, sea, underground, and in trees. there are many different subspecies of tenrec that can look like hedgehogs, opossums, rats, and shrews (this is one is a lowland streaked tenrec from madagascar)

Achieved start of the year goals

Didn't fulfill my last year's goal of making commissions a full time job. I mean, I did for a little bit while but it's still not the right time yet.

Though what I did unexpectedly accomplish is that my fear of cockroaches had decreased. We had a family of house shrews this year (usually we had mice) and I learned they mainly eat insects. I still like to avoid killing the few huntsman spiders we have hanging around so the next big insect available would normally be a roach. So I'd bonk one if I find one (instead of immediately bolting out the room) so I can feed the shrews. I mean cockroaches, specially the American cockroach, still freaks me the heck out. But, like, it's shrew food.

Oh, also bought a display tab. I'll always be grateful to the Ko-fi supporters for reaching this goal! I'm still in the middle finding my rhythm with the tablet. Considering getting a paperlike screen protector to minimize the glass texture.

2024 goal

A new laptop of course. My ideapad is in the cusps of dying. 😭

I don't feel that productive in the drawing department this year. :/ My current day job does pay a little higher than my commissions and ko-fi requests combined... But I really don't fill fulfilled when I make less drawings. Let's see if I can make commissions a full time job this year. Or at least try to see if I can make my top source of income drawing related.

There are other goals I hope to accomplish this year, but these are the main drawing related ones.

Regarding commissions

There will be some adjustments to the background prices in regular commissions. Because, like, I shouldn't price it lower than the base price if I spent as much time drawing it. Lol

I think I'll rate Ko-fi doodle requests based on what the piece literally contain instead of basing on the amount of time spent drawing the request. It'll make things simpler specially with comics. I'll make a post about the changes when I decide on the settled rates

I managed a bestiary challenge before a Friday!

This is the kengliwa, which our bestiary writer seems to have a bit of a problem with! I've had some fun with this one and you may be able to tell that the toddler and I have been reading some Beatrix Potter stories lately.

My kengliwa are shrews in some smart clothes, so they should neatly meet the descriptions of a black column carrying off wheat from the fields after climbing the stalks to test it.

I tried to do this like a proper watercolour painting but didn't really pull it off. you may peek below the cut to see the version before inking, but I think the lines were necessary.

thinking about the production history of elizabeth taylor and richard burton and on one hand some of the shows they’re most famous for doing together seem like awful things to do to each other on screen but at the same time. maybe doing a show where your lover hurts you is only something you can do and survive with someone you love very much. you can only snip at and deride someone off of a text when you know none of it’s going to be true. because at that point in time, what you know is that you love each other. and that’s what’s true.
