I’m watching a Hulu Original “Shrill” and I genuinely get annoyed at this TiM. To put this so bluntly— Idrm trans characters EVEN THOUGH I don’t support trans ideology because I can easily ignore them (and understand they put a trans person for “representation” so people don’t complain about lack of “trans representation”). But this character?
This character is a TiM that harasses the main character (a fat women) ALL. THE. TIME. And I don’t understand the point of it. Is it supposed to be humor? I don’t think it’s supposed to be a critique of TiMs being misogynistic/bullies towards women because this is a liberal show.
I just don’t see the humor of having a transwomen be a literal bully and act like a weird Regina George character. And they’re mainly mean to the main character, who is a women, and not everyone else. That’s why I get annoyed. If the TiM was mean to everyone— ok whatever dood the TiM is just a bully. But nope. It’s the main female character that they are being mean to. Going as far as slapping his hair on her face or making sexual jokes about her.
I wanted to watch this show because it seemed relatable (as a “small fat” <?> person) because they tackle/discuss issues fat women face. But man. This TiM makes it fucking unwatchable that sometimes I have to pause and take a deep breath.

Remus is shit in atyd, so is Sirius ngl. Their relationship is so toxic and infuriating. 🙄 The storyline is still nice though and I'm glad that I've read it coz if not, i would have never discover other wolfstar fics and amazing writers who wrote them beautifully.
I'm a fan of your works and No Matter the Wreckage is one of my favourite marauders at hogwarts fics and i think it's the closest to what i prefer as my headcanon. 💗
anon you raise some valid points here, and ill forego my shitting on atyd for one hot second to say:
1) writing is hard and they did a hard thing.
2) some times, media isnt FOR certain groups of people (i watched Shrill on hulu because i love aidy bryant and i was...unimpressed and not immersed despite finding the script and the separate elements SOLID. and i just came to the conclusion that this show wasnt...made for me? I was not their target audience) and i dont think atyd was written for ME to enjoy. but that doesnt mean other people cant find it enjoyable.
3) youre right that it does lead readers to other wolfstar fics and i can be...grateful for that because hello i exist
But. I stand by that its not a romance and r/s just happen to be in a relationship in the fic. and some of the stuff(read: critically reading...alot of the stuff) is problematic. and people should read other things! The world is round!
(Also thank you so much for being nice to NMTW???? Obviously theyre my HCs too and idk part of me thinks that there....is definitely a way to write teenagers falling in love that is...messy and complicated and clumsy ((coming of age!!! Hello!!!)) without the...elements of toxicity. ya know?)

I tried to give Shrill on Hulu a chance today and it’s the most bland white fat millennial shit I’ve seen to date. I don’t like a lot of the fat representation we’ve been tossed on TV but yikes, this set a new low. Would rather watch hairspray again. At least hairspray was fun, if too short.

THE TESLA BODY
My name is Elon Musk, and I am the C.E.O. of Tesla and the father of approximately one per cent of the current population of Earth and a hundred per cent of the future population of Mars. As you know, the human body has not been substantially updated in nearly forty years. The new Tesla Body will revolutionize, streamline, and vastly modernize the human body as we know it.
Let’s start with walking: it sucks. I will make all bodies self-walking. You will simply set a speed for your feet, and they will walk forward forever until your Body stops when it encounters a hard surface. I, of course, will outfit all buildings and walls in urban areas with cushioning. To reduce drownings, any ravine or body of water will be edged with taut elastic ropes. Currently, we are looking at making Scottsdale, Arizona, ready to be walked in by the year 2045. I can hear the critics now: “What if I need to turn?” First of all, what are you, some sort of king? No one “needs” to turn. But, for those Baryshnikovs among us who want to turn left or right like royalty, there will be optional ski poles available to buy for your Body. They will cost five hundred and ninety-five dollars per pole.
Eyes are very boring. Most of what plays in them is boring content (waking up, taking care of your beta-tier children, etc.). I will make sure that, in your new Tesla Body, the eyes will play only the funniest episodes of “Rick and Morty” all day, every day. If you want to go to sleep, it’s easy as pie—just put on your Tesla noise-cancelling headphones (the sound of “Rick and Morty” comes out of a tiny speaker in your tear ducts) and slide in your Tesla Blackout Sleep Contacts. You should not wear your contacts for more than four hours at a time, for cornea health, which is why we sell a convenient Tesla alarm clock, which will wake you up every four hours so that you can remove your contacts. The alarm clock also plays my favorite episodes of “Rick and Morty.” It costs three thousand and ninety-five dollars, plus twelve ninety-nine for the Hulu subscription that gives you access to the “Rick and Morty” episodes.
Food is so stupid. Oh, look at me, I love having to eat every single day like some sort of livestock or mother of my children! Stupid. The Tesla Body will operate on flavorless protein powder that you can deposit once a day directly into your stomach via a tiny door. The powder will give the Body enough energy to walk exactly six miles. If you do not budget your daily energy carefully, your Body will sit down on the floor and not move until the next morning. But, luckily, a convenient Tesla Emergency Tent is included with every Body. When your Body breaks down, just pull out the tent from your Tesla Bindle, set it up (note: you can’t set it up without energy, so make sure you always travel with a friend or an intelligent St. Bernard that has a barrel on its collar), and press the Roadside Assistance button. While you take a much needed nap, Tesla’s friendly roadside helpers will arrive and put extra powder in your tummy door, and you’re off! The tent is standard equipment. The Roadside Assistance service is nine thousand four hundred and fifteen dollars per month. If you don’t buy it, you go to jail.
I am a feminist and I listen to women, and basically the only thing women talk about is wanting pockets. I hear your shrill voices (I am being ironic!) loud and clear. The Tesla Body will have pockets all the way down the legs, like cargo pants that you can’t take off. You can keep so many important items in your skin pockets: your Tesla Emergency Tent, your Tesla Flare (in case your protein powder runs out in the middle of a road), and your Tesla Map of Scottsdale! The map highlights all of my favorite sites, like N.F.T. galleries and a bar where you can meet blond women who have just moved to America from the Eastern Bloc.
I’m going to say what I’m sure you’re already thinking: no one should have a penis but me. A penis is a luxury and a privilege that only I have proved myself worthy of. The Tesla Body will either have a vagina and ovaries or a convenient cup holder for your favorite South African soda, Iron Brew. I will accordingly have the only sperm on Earth. Thus, anyone who wants to procreate will have to fill out an application and submit it directly to me. But, don’t worry, I always say yes! The application is just a formality so I can see what my future children’s handwriting will look like.
Sometimes, with our hectic modern schedules, it’s easy to misplace things, which is why the Tesla Body will come preloaded with a trusty app that will be able to tell you where your Body is. O.K., sorry, one more thing about the sperm. I have never liked the way that my DNA can be spread only through very old-fashioned means. I will therefore embed pre-fertilized Elon embryos in every Tesla Body. All you have to do is take care of your Body, and, one night, a tiny Elon or Elonia will pop out of its own little door! Then just drop your Baby Elon / Elonia off at the nearest Tesla dealership or factory. They’ll know what to do!
I know you are probably so excited to get the new Tesla Body that you are already preparing to throw your old, terrible human body in the trash. The Body will be on the market soon, and it will be available to almost everyone. It fits women’s sizes 0-8 and any man shorter than me. I am the tallest man in the world!

This might be an odd thing to ask, but do Ingo and Emmet have any particular "Headcanon voice" you enjoy for them or do they sound like the anime / masters edition in your mind. I am interested because I just realized for some reason Emmets description of "Monotone and short sentences" in my mind translated to... ENA from Joel Gs video series of the same name
https://youtu.be/dd_O8RGK_tM
Yeah I don't know either gonna be real. But I can Imagine Emmet going "Oh Nonononono Nonono" perfectly tough.
Couldn't remember the anime voices, so...yeah, I do have a head canon for them. It's been five years since I saw the anime when Black and White was on Hulu for a minute, but I remember having that same feeling for the twins that I had for Rinto, as in...I wish they'd create context to put them in more episodes. There wasn't enough. The one clip on YouTube has them doing a collective "I am Emmet" which is cute. It's like they're RPing police detectives.
I'm down with the Loud Ingo meme, but there doesn't seem to be a soft spoken Emmet counterpart to that. Here are some head canons. The edge is taken off Emmet's blunt asshattery when he delivers it with a smile and soft voice of childish glee. When he's stressed, he doesn't raise his voice much, but he does get shrill, and one can see the tension in his eyes.

Recently finished a show listed as an HBO Girls-type spawn called "Shrill" on Hulu which chronicles the lived experience of fat women in an inherently fatphobic world through a flawed protagonist and a variety of choices she makes. This was a very interesting watch because I was admittedly looking for something to satiate my urge to rewatch Girls but have ended up going through the whole thing pretty fast and being hit with the whiplash of actually missing it.
Annie (brilliantly played by Aidy Bryant!) is truly a Hannah Horvath type... a defiant body type among other shows of its time with a show that frames it with normalcy through acknowledgement in proper places and through the success of its protagonists. Annie is so tough to watch, not only as a product of a world which devalues and tries to "fix" her, but also as a crazy selfish person (😭). She's boldly inconsiderate, ungrateful, and outright rude at times, and you can see part of that is a coping mechanism for internal and external fatphobia. Owning the space she occupies, lurching at career and relationship opportunities without care, and selfishly moving ahead are things that seem to liberate her from her body but are also reminders of the vessel we are forced to operate regardless of how it's percieved. It showcases a history of diets initially imposed upon her by her mother until she moves out and starts treating herself poorly on her own volition. She's allowed frequent sexual encounters, illuminating the existent desire for fat people despite the prevalent status quo which simultaneously highlights her own perception of sex as the ultimate form of validation.
I watched this in 2 weeks over several laundry sessions and chores and things where I honestly wasn't looking but a lot of dialogue forced me to sit down and take in the framing and body language and the things which are invisibly superimposed upon us as people with bodies. I think it reveals things about the viewers, especially if they don't exactly look like Annie Easton. Her mannerisms are familiar to the insecure woman (MEEE) and sometimes you can't blame her for settling for someone because she thinks it's the only time love might come around for her. I also found they created a good (albeit rushed) arc that they reckoned with her whiteness wherein she perhaps un/knowingly succumbs to platforming a racist familt cult (crazy ass episode, also that is her sin verbatim😭) in order to satiate her desire to become a bigger, unconventional journalist. It was interesting, because I do think the writers towed the line well when creating a black lesbian best friend in Fran (Lolly Adefope!!!!!!!! love), who knows when Annie is being inconsiderate and knows when to let her be/learn on her own. She's a great confidante. Their friendship and the boundaries seem evident, though even that is questioned later on. Fran is initially constructed to be Annie's more "put together" foil, but throughout the show this is quickly undone. She's flawed, sometimes as emotionally unintelligent and inconsiderate to her own partners as Annie's boyfriends, and dynamics of gender and sexuality as it relates to body are pretty brilliantly displayed here.
Annie fumbles so many things and learns and sometimes doesn't learn, and there really comes a point on the creative end where you can tell the writers were told this was their final season (with like 4 episodes to go...) And by no means is it perfect nor comprehensive.
But despite these things I found it easy to root for Annie as someone reckoning with my own past of self mistreatment and the dismal mindset I had when I was just unbearably insecure, lashing out, and wanting to cease existence. It's kind of encouraging in a way to see someone so forward about their ambitions, propelling their own body towards something they care about. It was also nice to see people stick around despite her mean outbursts. The idea of "mattering" through other people is a comforting one for the self-loathing, and a solid foundation for unlearning it.

WATCH THE AFTERPARTY ONLINE TV
Rome, Oz are some amazing choices from HBO Max. “The Afterparty” has not planned its launch on HBO Max. Punisher, Nailed It is some best options from Netflix. “The Afterparty” is not going to launch on Netflix. Tandav, Afsos are some best suggestions from Prime Video. “The Afterparty” is not going to debut on Prime Video. Shrill, Plan B is the best alternative from Hulu. Unfortunately, “The Afterparty” is not going to premiere on Hulu. While the scripts “were precisely plotted out,” showrunner Christopher Miller and executive producer Phil Lord acknowledged to Decider that there were plenty of leeways for the actors to inject their own creative flavor. Richardson and Schwartz both have extensive live comedic backgrounds (Richardson has performed at Second City, while Schwartz has been a long-time UCB improvisation), so it’s no surprise that they were given plenty of chances to improvise. You can’t tell what was prepared and what was improvised because the jokes are delivered at such a fast rate. The program employs a deceptively basic formula (amazing writing, well-rounded characters, outstanding performances, and a gripping whodunit) to create an intriguing mystery that masterfully blends intrigue and humor into one captivating plot. Tiffany Haddish stars as Detective Danner, and the cast also features Zo Chao, Dave Franco, Ilana Glazer, Ike Barinholtz, and Jamie Demetriou as former classmates, as well as Search Party star John Early as Haddish’s partner.
WATCH THE AFTERPARTY ONLINE TV
If you enjoy TV comedy, The Afterparty’s cast includes a who’s your favorite actors. The show, which launches on January 28, not only has a bold premise, but it also features one of the most hilarious comedic casts in recent memory. The eight-episode Rashomon-style whodunit, created by Christopher Miller, revolves around a murder case at a high school reunion.Įach episode is a retelling of the same night told from the perspective of a different individual, with the varied genres matching the storyteller’s distinct personalities. When I initially heard about Apple TV+’s new comedy The Afterparty, I was ecstatic. Expectations have a way of influencing your streaming experience in an indirect way.
