The fairy tales were wrong. Adam knew that as certain as he knew the sun rose in the east. And yet, Blake was always such a romantic.

In fairy tales, the beast was always cursed, a handsome prince under the monstrosity. An innocent man in need of a lesson, awaiting true love to cure him of his afflictions. His opposite and equal? A daring heroine, or a beautiful princess, to awaken the charming gentleman under the beast’s twisted features.

Adam never believed in fairy tales. Why would he? Freedom had come at a price for him. He had gotten what he wanted, but like a genie’s wish, it was all wrong. He was the beast that would always be an ugly monster, his heart dark and shrivelled as he used his sword for his semblance, refusing to ever let a blow touch him again. That was what Moonslice was good for, turning bloody revenge into beauty.

Blake was beauty too. He loved the passion she held for their cause, and her naivety about the world was charming, in its own way. She was a believer, unlike him. She believed in fairy tales, in equality, in peace. She saw something in him that had been there once, back when he still had a glimmer of hope that life could be good for their people. Things could be fair, be equal. That he could move beyond being the scarred, desecrated thing he was and be a hero, using his brutal strength to protect them all.

That was a childish dream, for a young boy who hadn’t learnt to let go of the chains that weighed him down. Morality, empathy, restraint, all of them useless in this world where strength was all that mattered. He just wanted Blake to see that. Why couldn’t she just understand that there was no right thing in this world? Only the humans who deserved to suffer.

“Adam?” Blake’s voice cut through the fog of hate that had him gripping his sword, his thumb pushing it out of the sheath to show a glimmer of the scarlet blade before he snapped it back into Blush with a small click. Over and over again, the sound of Wilt and Blush calmed him, like a shield against the tempest that sang in his blood.  

“Blake.” He turned to her, using his mask as a shield from her piercing golden gaze. She always seemed to know too much, even about the things he didn’t want her to know. She didn’t like the death, and he tried to respect that part of her, no matter how pitiful it was.

If that meant explaining away justice as mere ‘accidents’, then so be it.

“You’re clicking your sword again.” Her pale hand covered his glove, a bow hiding her ears the way his bull horns could never be hidden. “You only do that when you’re upset.”

Upset? Of course he was upset. Their people got branded and maimed for the crime of existence and he wasn’t out there killing the monsters doing so. “We should be doing more. I lead the Vale chapter here, but Khan’s sent orders to pull back on missions.”

“Maybe she’s worried that we’ll be caught?” Blake gently pulled Wilt from his grasp as she looked up at him with honey eyes, framed by ebony curls. Their relationship, whatever it was, it was new, and unfamiliar, but he liked it. It was nice, to be looked at like he was worth seeing.

“I feel like she doesn’t respect my tactics,” he confessed quietly, hesitating before he raised a hand, brushing some of her hair back. “I’m just following the path she set down for us, and she thinks that I’m doing it wrong.”

Blake gave him a soft smile, looking entranced by his touch even as he noticed her bow twitch, the way it only did when the cat ears below were tilting with discomfort. “I’m sure she doesn’t think that, Adam. She wouldn’t have sent you here if she didn’t believe in you.”

She was right. She always knew how to make his worries fade away. He smiled at her, blue eye warming behind his mask. “You believe in me, Blake. Don’t you?”

Blake hesitated, like she had to think about it. Why would she hesitate? The answer was obvious, right? His mouth twisted into a displeased scowl as he repeated his question, pulling his hand back like she’d burned him. “Don’t you, Blake?”

“I do, Adam,” she reassured him, hasty and making up for her mistake. He spotted fear flicker at the edge of her expression. Good. She should know better. “I just think- maybe taking a break is good for us. It gives us a chance to catch our breath. We can do something together as well. Maybe a night off?”

He hummed as he thought it over. Perhaps she had a point. It would allow their troops to regain their strength, and for tension to build as the humans waited for the next blow to strike. Perhaps the anticipation would turn to fear. He could enjoy being feared by humanity.

He smiled at her again, his bad mood gone, drifting away like rose petals in the breeze. “You’re right, Blake.”

She smiled at him, relief sweeping through her beautiful topaz eyes as she set Wilt and Blush aside. “Really? That’s good. Thank you, Adam.”

“You’re welcome.” He hesitated before he decided to try something new, hoping it wouldn’t seem too corny or out of place. He cared about her like he’d never cared about anyone before. He didn’t want to lose her. He was never going to lose her. “My darling.”

Blake lit up with a smile, like the dawn after a dark night, a delicate blush tinting her cheeks. He reached out to take her hand, pausing, and she completed the journey herself, her dainty fingers encompassed by his black glove.

He should appreciate her more. She saw so much good in the world, and in him, and in herself. It was admirable, despite how impossible her dream of a better world was. She really was like a princess in a fairy tale, reaching out to cure his beastliness.

He wished she would accept it and join him in the shadows, sometimes. He was starting to get tired of holding back.

Hey :) Can you explain what's wrong with Joss Whedon doing Batgirl?

Hello! Okay so number one, he got kicked out of Directing Marvel movies because he completely screwed up Avengers: Age of Ultron and wrote Black Widow in a disgraceful way. For practically the whole movie she’s not being super kick butt and instead called herself a “monster” because she couldn’t have children. He wrote Black Widow as a vessel for angst which some would say is out of character. 

As for the second point, they’re using New 52 batgirl, which in my opinion is her worst adaption. They thankfully fixed this a bit by making Batgirl of Burnside but it was still so bad. New 52 batgirl is an insult to all disabled superhero fans and most likely Babs won’t be ever Oracle in the DCEU. This is still to be seen though so I very well could be proven wrong.

Lastly, I think DC should’ve made a woman the director of the solo batgirl film. Statistically only 7% of directors are female and it’d be nice to see a change in that. A woman would most likely do a better job on a batgirl film than a man could because its a female movie.

Clover Ebi?

Clover Ebi

First impression: Who the fuck is this Irish-coded stereotype I feel insulted.

Impression now: Sir? Mr Captain? Clover? Yes, I’d die for you, or kill for you, pick one. No joke I love him so much, and I think his end really sucked. Not because of shipping, but because it just didn’t suit him. They were building up this plotline of him having to choose between Atlas and the team, and instead they just kill him? Not only that but his death is made entirely about Qrow’s manpain, and about making James look bad. It feels disrespectful. When Adam has a death scene that’s more respectful to his character then Clover’s, then all is not well in Waffleville.

Favorite moment: Oh god how do I pick. Hm, I’d honestly have to say his talk with Robyn in episode 5. It was one of the few times we see Clover as an actual character, and not as Qrow’s therapist. The way he talks to Robyn is fascinating, and speaks at this real history between them. He’s posturing, defensive, putting on a cheerful face while also being a terrible liar, and he doesn’t trust Robyn in the slightest. It feels personal, and intricate, and I wish it had been explored. 

Idea for a story: Uh... gestures at my FrankenClover fic, well I personally like the idea of bringing him back, but how about we do it in a mega fucked up way where he comes back a monster? 

Unpopular opinion: Some people in the fndm only want Clover around for their ship and it shows. Getting territorial over him is silly, and he unfortunately didn’t have nearly as much character as he had the potential for. In this respect, gets reduced to being one half of a ship, and I’m not here for that. Relationships are never about being half of something and I hate that common perception. 

Favorite relationship: Romantically, but also platonically in any variation because I am but a hapless aro who is just as down for gen stuff as I am for ships, I am actually a fan of Fair Game, Luckybird (Robyn/Clover), Tough Luck (Clover/Winter), Tree of Luck (Elm/Clover), Silver Shamrock (Ironwood/Clover), Wishbone, and Lucky Dragon (Tai/Clover). He’s got that kind of easygoing personality that makes him interesting to bounce off a wide range of characters.

Favorite headcanon: I like to give him a secondary allusion of Lugh from Celtic mythology! Also, he was from Mantle, and he was a right little shit who ended up in Atlas Academy as some form of rehabilition instead of going to jail. He also ended updragging Robyn up to Atlas with him in the process, with the two of them being partners in the Academy. Another smaller headcanon I like is that he freckles in the sunlight, and he is willing to use Kingfisher’s harpoon form as a spear if he has to. It’s canon. I say so.

Weiss Schnee?

Weiss Schnee

First impression: She struck me as an interesting character in her short. I wasn’t sure if her fight with the knight was metaphorical or a literal flashback, though it appears to be the latter, considering her scar. Speaking of, it’s cool to have a female main character with a scar on her face. It’s one of my favourite bits of her design. 

Impression now: Weiss is probably my favourite of the team RWBY girls, though volume 7 hasn’t done her any favours. Volume 7 really squandered her, unfortunately. All her scenes felt disjointed, like they were trying to set up and resolve a million different arcs with her. I’m also not a huge fan of how they changed her fringe. I much prefer how it looked in the Mistral arc, and though the braid is a neat conceptual idea, I feel like if any of the girls on team rwby should have cut their hair, it should have been Weiss. Still, I have hope for her character. She’s always been the most... aware of the girls, which is what allows for her to have gotten good character development prior. 

Favorite moment: It’s a tie between her reunion with Yang in the Branwen camp, or her hugging Winter in the beginning of Volume 7. Both are excellent moments that show just how much Weiss changed from the cold-hearted heiress she thought she was, into a warm, compassionate, nurturing character who isn’t afraid to show she cares and is honestly at this point the emotional centre of the team. 

Idea for a story: A story where she stayed in Atlas, perhaps, or went to a different school. Wouldn’t it be interesting if she instead went to Haven? After all, putting characters in different situations is how they thrive. Even a story where she chose to take the relic alone to Ironwood in Argus could be an interesting introspective that would honestly take out every problem I have with the vol6 finale.

Unpopular opinion: She’s still a jobber, Marrow’s fight doesn’t count, and I miss when she used her sword as an actual sword. Also, her Atlas arc was severely disjointed, her arrest of her father shouldn’t have been played for comedy, and it baffles me how much Whitley is treated as Satan’s spawn when he’s literally just a lonelier volume 1 Weiss without combat skills. If Weiss leaves Whitley behind to run away from Atlas in volume 8 I’m gonna kermit. Also, with as empathic as Weiss has become, her lack of understanding for Ozpin after Salem’s abuse of him was revealed is really... bizarre. 

Favorite relationship: Romantically, I like Freezerburn, Sunflakes, White Lotus, Huskies, and I have a soft spot for Prismatic Ponytails. I also love her bond with Winter, it’s a really fascinating dynamic. Her friendships with everyone are also great, I love how she’s almost like Ruby’s second big sister, and I would love to see her get to show her compassionate side again. 

Favorite headcanon: that she’s able to ‘see’ through her summons if she concentrates, it opens up a lot of possibilities not just for combat. I also love the idea that she grows up and becomes the headmistress of Atlas Academy, I think a teaching role would suit her well.

Robyn Hill

First impression: oh wow I love this character, what an interesting design that’s really well-proportioned and pretty, and I love Cristina Vee as well so that’s cool. 

Impression now: How do you fuck up such an excellent character in that many ways

Favorite moment: Her first scene where she’s talking with Clover. I know I’ve talked about it from Clover’s perspective, with his defensive posturing, so let’s talk about Robyn in this scene. She’s cocky, she’s calm, and she’s trying to swing the odds in her favour in every way she can. We see that she’s willing to resort to violence, and even has a bit of an enjoyment in the thought of a fight, but we see that she’s also willing to back down from a fight and be mature, though her determination means she might still try a different tactic to get what she wants. All in all, an interesting set-up for a character who had a lot of growth to do, and who was set up for a lot of entwined development alongside and hopefully paralleling Clover, who was almost too lawful for her reckless chaotic. What’s important to note is they are not on truly bad terms, in that he honestly wishes her luck and she accepts it silently, which made them both have a fascinating interplay I would have loved to see more of. 

Idea for a story: How about a story where we swap her and Clover’s roles, where Clover’s the outlaw, and Robyn’s the Ace Operative? That could be a really interesting change

Unpopular opinion: Her character arc was set up as one of her learning to trust Ironwood, and that he’s a genuinely good, if flawed, man who was doing what he thought had to be done against the unkillable entity of Salem. Then that entire character arc got yoted right the fuck out the window the second the writing needed to make her a dumbass who starts a fight in an enclosed space after FUCKING TYRIAN goaded her into it. What. What happened to the Robyn who was set up as an ultimately level-headed person who would be willing to get along with Ironwood if they talked it out, with the tragedy being that because of Jacques’ win, they couldn’t talk it out and she went straight into vigilante justice in a situation where she didn’t have all the knowledge to know what she was doing was wrong? What happened to the Robyn who realised that Ironwood was worth trusting? They managed to entirely screw over her character in about five different ways at once and none of them were good. Also, calling a faunus ‘wags’ and then humansplaining racism to him is racist and Robyn should probably apologise for it.

Favorite relationship: Clover and Robyn Clover and Robyn Clover and Robyn give me all the backstory I don’t give a shit if it’s romantic or platonic they’re fascinating. 

Favorite headcanon: I like to think she’s actually a fox faunus, only she’s had to hide it in order to be a viable candidate for voters. It takes away some of the racist implications of her behaviour towards Marrow, and adds a tragic element of Robyn being someone who seeks the truth, and yet is hiding such an integral part of herself. Personally, I think it would be that she usually has a beautiful red fox brush, but in order to be considered as a worthwhile politician, she’s had to shave it into this raggedy-looking tail and belt it down. Consider the possibilities, and also how it would match the red of her waistcoat.

Emerald Sustrai

First impression: I thought she seemed interesting enough, I was wondering what her goal was with Tukson, and she seemed to really swing between ‘I’m just a sweet lost girl can you help me’ act, and then into her ‘you shouldn’t make a promise you can’t keep’ threats, but neother of those were real. What was real was ‘tired of Mercury’s bullshit’, and I found that fun. There’s a lot of nuance in Emerald’s character and how she presents herself which ends up making a lot of sense when it’s revealed she’s an illusionist.

Impression now: Hazel if you don’t adopt this child and get her the fuck away from Salem she’s going to get Fall Maidened and stuck in Salem’s clutches forever. On that note, I’m really interested in how her redemption arc is going to go. 

Favorite moment: Probably how she acts in episode 4 of volume 6. it interests me how much she hates Salem’s castle, and how they frame her in relation to Salem, especially the shot of the door closing on Emerald right when Salem’s about to explode. I jsut really like that. They nailed the animation of terror with Emerald in that whole scene. 

Idea for a story: How about one where Emerald went to a Huntsman school, instead of being picked up by Cinder? Or a story where Cinder dies in volume 5 and Emerald is the Fall Maiden?

Unpopular opinion: I think that Mercury is going to leave Team Salem before she is, and she’s not going to be the one who turns to the Good Guy Side first. She’s not going to be the single light in the dark that pulls Mercury over to the side of Not Evil, because she has her bond with Cinder as a chain linking her back to Salem. She has her status as the only young female Salem has currently on hand as a target, earmarking her as a pliable Maiden candidate and therefore ‘useful’ to Salem. Mercury doesn’t have any of that, and he’s willing to cut ties if he has to. I think that her redemption is going to come later, and it’ll be in that moment where she has everything she thought she wanted, Cinder’s back, Salem’s leaving her alone, and... everything’s worse now then it was before. Also, another little unpopular headcanon is that Emerald has done some absolutely heinous shit in the Fall of Beacon and even beforehand, and that should absolutely not be brushed off. She had Merc kill a man in their first appearance, and she caused so much trouble with her semblance. Redemption should be something she gets to earn through hard work, it’s more satisfying that way. 

Favorite relationship: I mentioned that I love her and Mercury’s bond, so let’s talk about how Hazel seems to be stepping in as some sort of proto-father/big brother/gruff uncle figure to her. It’s very sweet, and I hope that it actually has far-reaching consequences for both their character arcs.

Favorite headcanon: Emerald will hopefully be the one to use Jinn’s last question, I’d love that.

5836. Jinx and Kid Flash have regular movie nights. When it’s his turn he always chooses X-Men: Days of Future Past, and states every time that the Quicksilver scene was based on him, plus pointing out several inaccuracies in the depiction of bullet time. Jinx has so far destroyed seven copies of the film.
