The Depths You’ll Go
Tumblr media
Namor x Reader
This is a big ol’ fever dream. It’s been a while since I felt this way about a Marvel character.
Summary: The price of protecting a an advanced civilization from the rest of the world is high, but the rewards? Priceless.
Warnings: 18+ Content. Angst, cannon level violence, mutual pining. Namor is overwhelmingly protective. I’m a sucker for a happy ending.
Words: 2.5k
Dividers by the stunning @firefly-graphics.
Tumblr media
You had to keep moving.
You were close to the water; you could feel it deep in your bones.
The little boy in your arms must have felt the saltwater lingering in the air. He was frantic, twisting in your hold as you rushed through the corridor.
His blue skin was pale, and he was trying to breathe in the air you knew wouldn't sustain him.
"Just a little longer," You cradled him close, whispering reassurances in his hair. "I'm getting you out of here."
But you were biting back tears.
You never expected to be followed home by the young Talokan boy. He was so little and curious and full of love. He had hardly left your side while you watched Namor teach a sparring session. How he trained, moved, and spoke with his people made your heart swell.
And you didn't expect the raid on your home soon after you returned to the beach. You didn't stand a chance against the swat team busting down your door. The boy was the most important thing. You weren't going to let anything happen to him.
Shuri warned you to be careful. The agencies have kept an eye on you since you left Wakanda.
It was everything Namor feared. All he wanted to do was protect his people; you were the reason they were in danger.
Oh, Namor.
Your stomach ached. You wanted to scream and call out for help, but the best thing you could do was sneak around the guards and get the boy back to the water. The boy. The adored one.
Taavi.
You treasured him more than you thought possible. He was strong and curious in the water but bashful and wide-eyed above ground.
Dark hair fell against his cheeks, and his eyes drooped as you turned a corner. You cradled him close.
But you were running out of time.
And then, when you finally kicked open the metal door at the end of the hall, you cried out with joy.
You were close to the water. Closer than you thought.
It was a sheer drop from the cliffside base into the Atlantic, and it was only then you heard the clinking of footsteps not far behind you. The guards found you.
The boy pushed out of your arms just in time and dove into the brink as the guards pulled you back. You should have jumped. And then you watched the little boy poking his head out of the water and staring up at you with a fearful expression. He didn't know what was happening.
You cried out when the guards pointed their guns at the top of the water.
"Taavi, go. Get out of here!"
You were wrestled back into the base, frantically throwing your body toward the water. You weren't even sure if you could make the dive. But before you could slip out of their grip, something hit you hard in the back of your head.
And everything went dark.
Tumblr media
Your cell turned into an interrogation room.
The soldiers wanted to know about the little blue boy, that thing. They didn’t even treat him like a child, but an experiment. They wanted to know what was in the water. About the vibranium.
Interrogation turned from fear tactics to torture. And you were no soldier.
You were trained in the sciences, to know biology, to understand life and nature. That's why Banner recommended you go to Wakanda in the first place.
And with Talokan? You still had so much to learn. Their livelihoods and families were on the line. Hundreds of years of culture were preserved.
And you cared about them.
You weren't going to betray their trust. That is, if Namor didn't think you already had.
His fatalist streak made you fear the worst. He was fiercely protective of his people, and the way he was around the children? Patient and compassionate. Taavi's disappearance must have caused an uproar.
You hoped he would be merciful.
Tumblr media
Time passed. Days passed.
You thought you would rot in that jail cell, battered and bruised, until you just drifted away one day. That they'd forget about you until it was too late. Until you were lost to the wind.
And one day, the guards were given new orders.
They all knew something was in the water. But didn't know what to look for, and they never did catch that little boy.
If he could make his way out of their surveyed waters, the people in power were convinced something could find its way back in.
All they needed was some new bait.
There must have been a reason why the boy was with you. You were their best bet for finding out why.
The soldiers changed. At first, it was the Americans, then the French, and the Germans, and then you couldn't tell after a while.
The thought of all the surface countries working together made your head spin.
They waited until the tide was at its lowest. That's when they drug you out of the cell by your arms, until you were too tired to fight back.
You were too tired to think. It felt hopeless. You were taken to a different side of the base, where paths of rocks were cut out down to the water.
And then you saw the chains.
The guards attached arm restraints to the rocky walls, where the water kissed the land. One look at the guards was all it took, and then you knew. They wanted their intel.
They wanted to know about Talokan, and they weren't above drowning a scientist to get it.
"Last chance, sweetheart," One of the men said, all dressed up to fight off the chill in the air. He was different from the others; you'd never seen him before. He must have been the man in charge.
Your stomach roiled in frustration.
He sauntered up to you, pulling your chin up with a firm grip. You hated his clever expression and bad breath.
"We just want to know about your little blue friend," He tormented, looking out to the water. "It's a little cold for a swim, don't you think?"
Your chest ached. But you had come so far; you couldn't hand them over. Namor would never give up like this.
You choked on a cry before taking a breath of sea air.
"He's in New York.”
The man turned around. You caught his attention.
"Come again?" He smirked, urging you to continue. The others were looking now, waiting for an answer.
"New York," You repeated tiredly. "But he turns green once in a while, not blue. Maybe you should get your eyes checked-"
You were kicked down to your knees without compunction.
"You think you're real funny, eh?” He scoffed. “String her up."
Your fate was sealed. You were gagged and bound like a worm on a hook and couldn't go crying out for help.
And then they dragged you into the water.
The cold plunge made your teeth chatter, but there was no time to consider it. Your arms were strung against the rocky walls on either side of your shoulders. Your legs were bound and weighed down. The saltwater only came up to your waist, but you knew it wouldn't last.
You rested your head against the wall in defeat.
And at last, you understood Namor's resentment. It pierced through years of you trying to help people and fight for the right causes.
At the end of the day, people in power wanted to keep their knowledge, power, and strengths. They wanted it all for themselves.
The water spray against the rocks gave you an excuse to cry, to mourn the life you couldn't live.
You should have told Namor the truth. You stayed in Talokan to learn, but it was more than that. As time went on, your trips into the sea lost focus. You were enamored by the Talokan people and how their lives were completely untouched by the outside world.
They were considerate and humble. They cared for one another.
Namor cared for them, for all of them. His icy demeanor was an act. He could talk strategy with his advisors and turn around to celebrate a new baby in their city. He could help by collecting food and scouting the perimeter of their sanctuary. It was no wonder why people worshipped him.
And his animosity towards outsiders didn't touch you. As much as he resented the world above, it was as though he wanted to show just how far they had come. They were a prosperous and independent nation. Completely indigenous. It was breathtaking.
It was hard not to swoon over him. You should have told Namor how you felt sooner.
Shuri could see it. M'Baku could see it. Hell, you were sure Namora could tell how you felt for their leader. But you could keep them safe.
They were the best warriors you had ever seen, and now it was your turn to protect them.
When the water cupped around your shoulders, you were pulled away from your thoughts. It was much colder than you thought. Your arms were shaking, and your fingers were numb.
The water was ruthless against the scrapes and cuts along your body. The weight was doing its job. It was keeping you from being buoyant. You swore you could feel something against your legs and panicked, pulling yourself up as best you could.
But the next wave came at you fast, making you choke on the gag in your mouth. You were running out of time.
The soldiers were looking out over the water with their guns ready, waiting for the call.
They were waiting to find something in the water. But the night was quiet.
In the last attempt to rectify yourself, you begged for his forgiveness. Namor let you into his home and world, and you almost ruined it. Your heart was hammering as the wave receded, and your pleas were lost behind your water-soaked gag.
You'd never see him again. You'd never hear the low timber of his words or see the passion in his eyes. Your eyes were squeezed shut.
Your heart was breaking and you couldn't stop it.
K’uk’ulkan
The water was rising, but all you could see was his profile. You could remember the curve of his nose and how his eyebrows moved when he told a story.
K’uk’ulkan
Another wave hit hard, and you choked on the icy water. But you could still see Namor guiding you through his sanctuary, pointing to the paintings on the walls.
K’uk’ulkan
The next wave didn't recede as far as you hoped. Another wave struck you, but you could still see him. You could smell the salt on his skin and hear how his necklaces moved when he walked. You could almost hear his voice.
He was - the bubble burst.
You couldn't breathe.
Your body was on auto pilot, thrashing and kicking wildly. Your body was fighting off the water that burned in your chest. It surrounded you in a coccon, murky and frothing against the rocks.
But you weren't as alone as you thought.
You couldn't feel the little grouping of octopuses at your feet trying to find a way to undo your chains.
You couldn't hear the soft singing above the water, urging soldiers into the brine.
And Namor - you couldn't see the carnage.
You couldn't see the rage and anguish on his face as he barreled through the base. Their water explosives shook the ground. You couldn't have known he was scouring the ocean for you.
Taavi made it home because of you.
You protected the little boy like he was your own, no matter the cost, and Namor couldn't see past it. You put your life on the line for them. It was his turn to serve you.
His chest ached with some long-lost realization, something he never dared to put into words but was forced to face. His heart beat a little faster when you were around. His focus swayed. He cared about you most ardently.
You were his to protect.
After all the time he had to dance around it, humbly flaunting his world to an outsider, Namor finally understood. The moment he let you see his world, he knew; he would protect you.
The way he flew into the water and pulled the chains away from the rock was terrifying.
His blood boiled as your hands fell limp into the water. He tugged the gag away from your face and cradled you above the water’s surface.
But you weren't breathing.
There was too much water in your lungs. Your heartbeat was faint, straining against your ribcage.
In a moment of hesitation, Namor pulled you from the water and up the rocky shore. The singing stopped. The chaos stopped.
And all eyes were on K'uk'ulkan.
The sea was claiming you for itself, but Namor wasn't going to give you up so easily. His expression welled with power, even when his jaw locked with uncertainty.
He needed to get the water out of your lungs. You needed air.
His hand spread over your heart before pressing down, the ridges of his palm digging into your skin. A command left his lips that was sharper than any blade.
"You cannot have her."
He began chanting in his native tongue, commanding the seas.
"Her heart beats for my people. It beats for me," He realized. "You cannot have her."
A rush of wind swept through the sky. And the sea, fearful of his wrath, receded from the shore.
His other hand cupped your face, leaning in with intention. He had never been so close, but it made perfect sense now. It felt important, felt right.
There was another way.
His eyes lit up. And when he leaned in to kiss you, it was met with lifetimes of bottled-up affection. Slow and intentional, he poured out his power. It was his breath, a kiss from a god.
The unspoken command broke the spell.
When Namor pulled back, your body lurched up with a frightful cough.
The sting of saltwater burned in your throat. Your hands were clammy, reaching out to hold on tight. Your chest ached, and your eyes burned as you tried to move. It was disorienting.
And then you heard it; the lull of your voice being called out, followed by a string of native words you couldn't understand.
Then you felt it; a strong hand covering yours, warmer and firmer than your own. He wasn't going to let you go.
And you saw it, saw him. Namor looked down at you like you could have hung all the stars in the sky. He was careful, like you could break under his stare.
But he brushed the tears out of your eyes. You didn't even realize you were crying.
Namor.
He had more love in his heart than anyone gave him credit for. He deserved the world.
And when he pulled you up into his arms, you held on tight.
Namor wanted to burn the world down. He wanted to fight, but for a moment it was stolen by the way you called his name. It was the sweetest sound he ever heard.
He wasn't going to let anything else happen to you. Because while your heart beat for his people, his heart was beating for you.

"You're playing with fire by posting our text messages, Ang," Max said, his voice shushed as he walked around the paddock.
"It's fine, Maxie. They'll probably connect me to a random famous person who is Dutch and then it'll blow over in a week," Evie dismissed.
"It doesn't really help that the guys are in your likes constantly," Max grumbled, and he heard Evie laugh.
"Some of them are pretty cute, and I think some even tried messaging me but I never saw them until it was late," she responded.
"Who?"
"Aww, Maxie, are you jealous?" Evie cooed, her tone sweet yet mocking at the same time.
"No... I just never expected them to be brave enough to message you," Max said.
"If you must know, I think it was Charles and Lando who tried. There are probably others, but I haven't seen them,"
"Did you respond to any of them?"
"Of course not, I'm loyal to you and only you,"
"Schat..."
"I know, I know, you wouldn't touch me with a ten-foot pole like that," Max could practically hear her rolling her eyes.
"You know we're just best friends, right?"
"And I'm saying I'm loyal to you and only you as a best friend."
"Are you doing anything soon?" Max was quick to change the subject, feeling as if he didn't, awkwardness would settle in and he hates it whenever Evie doesn't speak since he's fully aware that he loves hearing her talk considering how passionate she gets about things.
"Stark Industries' Gala is happening and Pepper's making me get a date for the event,"
"Why's she making you?"
"Something along the lines of I have to be seen with someone that isn't MJ, Peter, Ned, and Shuri," Evie sighed.
Max laughed at her situation, knowing that while Evie knew a lot of people, there were only a few that she could trust completely. And luckily for him, he was one of them. He was probably the first, considering they've known each other since she was 6 and he was 8.
"Good luck trying to find someone,"
"It's not even trying to find someone I'm struggling with. It's trying to find someone that's decent enough to spend my night with,"
"Who were you going to ask?"
"Well, I was going to ask you, but since we're best friends I don't think me bringing you as my date to the SI event would be something best friends do,"
"I'll go," Max said, shrugging.
"Wait, seriously? Like you going means you actually have to dress up,"
"I know,"
"The dress code is black tie. That means you can't wear your Redbull uniform like you're a walking billboard,"
"Do I really wear it that much? I saw people that were shocked when I wore a white t-shirt,"
"You're a millionaire who wears the same thing every day. So basically, every millionaire man,"
"I'm going to wear Redbull head to toe to the Gala now that you said that,"

2 years. You had officially been working for the Royal Udaku family for 2 years, and never would it get old for you. Since you were a young girl, you dreamt of making powerful creations and using them to change the world around you for the greater good. It was no doubt, you had a burning passion for science, not to mention, you were damn good at it. But you also had to admit, it felt good to be in a space among other legends, utilizing those skills right next to them. Especially Shuri. Shuri Udaku was a sight to see; in more ways than one. She had such an astute-being of a brain, and beautiful heart to match. She could arrive at any and every solution for every situation and apply it with ease. And although she may think she's such a tough-guy, she had the most caring heart. She treated all of her team as family, just as she would her mom or her brother. You were always taken care of. And as one side of you was admiring under terms of wanting to uphold such a stellar stature yourself, the other one was admiring in desperate need to be desired by someone of that same stature. No one got Shuri how you did. There was nothing she could hide from you. Your burning desire for her and her love and affection made the most meniscal details unavoidable. She hated that you could read her that way. But you cared so deeply for her. All you wanted was for her to be happy. And for her to be happy, with you.
Out of all the ways you could read her, romantic aspects were a code you just could not crack. You weren't even sure what she was into, or better yet, who. She was so buried in work and royalty duties, any emotional cards she had were held very close to her chest.
Each day that went by, watching her work sun up to sun down in her lab, you yearned to know how her hand would feel intertwined with yours. How her lips would feel, leaving deep, soft kisses on your lips, on your neck, down your chest. How her fingers would slowly trace across your hips, the circumference between the inside of your thighs, and eventually plunge deep inside your canal, pumping your g-spot until y-- "Y/N." Shuri called out to you, breaking you out of your fantasy of a trance. You quickly jumped up, straightening yourself out, and lifting your chin from your palm, where it previously rested. "Yes, princess?" You responded, eagerly awaiting whatever she had to ask or tell. "Have you made any progress on finishing Project-3280?" She walked up to you, looking down at the paper work she had in her hand, before looking up, scanning your facial expression for an answer. "Yes, princess." You answered proudly, curing her wonder. She lowly chuckled aloud, causing you to furrow your eyebrows, curious as to what about what you said was amusing. "Do you say anything other than 'Yes, princess'?" Your lashes fluttered as you scanned for the words to say, ultimately standing blankly, no words of response to be found.
"I told you, you work with me, not for me. You can speak regularly with me." She says in sincerity, holding the eye-contact, once again making your knees buckle at her commanding nature. "Yes, Pri--" You began before catching yourself in the very correction you were just given. Shuri raised her eyebrows, catching you as well, non-verbally. "I-I mean, okay, Shuri, yea. Got it." She chuckled again once more to herself before we walking off the clean the board she had previously been doing all her calculations on. You sat back on the high chair that stood behind the lab table you were at, scanning her from afar. Your eyes followed her slim frame from bottom-to-top, tracing the tattoo that resided up the side of her neck, to her sharp jaw, and her side profile. You bleakly counted the strands of hair on her head from the undercut, all the way to the curly top. You watched her slim, veined hands as they traveled quickly across the board in a wax-on, wax-off motion. You took note of how firmly they gripped the cloth right in their middle. You couldn't help but to trail your thoughts off into those hands gripping you that way. "Oh, fuck," You breathe out in a whisper, crossing your legs and nibbling at the end of your grey BIC pen. You continued to squirm in your seat as you watched sweat drip down the back of her neck, disappearing into the cloth of her lab coat. "Is it hot in here, to you, Y/N?" She asked, looking back at you. You shrugged your shoulders, quickly flicking your hands up at your side in a fake 'unsure' motion. It was definitely hot in there, but that was purposeful on your part. You had turned off the AC, knowing you'd be in here alone with her. It was just so captivating seeing her move and work so diligently that she would perspire and drip everywhere. You’d love to see those droplets falling from the hard work of another activity, with your assistance of course.
She wiped her forehead dry before pulling up her sleeves and walking back over to you. She was always finding ways to show and expose her hands and her arms. Almost like she knew those very things turned you on. You yourself would like to show her something.
“Okay, I’m ready. Show me what you got,” she rubs her hands together, in eagerness and excitement.
You almost choked on the saliva resting on the back of your tongue.
“I’m sorry?” You ask, taken aback by her statement, not sure if you heard what you thought you did.
“The project,” She pointed down towards the file folders you had right in front of you.
“Oh,” You reply, feeling silly for thinking she was referring to anything else.
You hand her the files, and she flips through them, carefully and attentively reading through each diagram.
You could feel your violently pulsating heart drop into your stomach and join the band of disruption that was previously keeping a concert in there. You had worked fairly hard on this project, and you wanted it to be perfect. More than anything you wanted her to approve. Your nerves began to worsen as you couldn’t pinpoint a reaction of satisfaction nor disapproval.
After what felt like an eternity of silence and confusion, Shuri finally rested the papers on the table and looked at you, a smile slowly creeping onto her face.
“I have to say, I am very impressed, Miss Y/N.” The band of disruption in your stomach finally dismembered, and was replaced with a symphony of butterflies. “Your technique is flawless. It must’ve took you ages to decode this.”
You tried to conceal your proud smile and your flushed cheeks, and failed terribly.
“Only took me 3 days.”
Shuri eyes widened, in an even more impressed state. “You’re joking, surely. It took me 3 weeks during my junior program! Let me find out you’re trying to replace me.” She teased, nudging your shoulder, slightly pushing.
You bit down on your teeth, flexing your jaw, fighting the moan that almost escaped from the sudden contact.
“You could never be replaced, Princess.” You say, more directly that you would’ve liked to. Your faces were separated merely by a foot. The eye-contact between the two of you lingered, until broken by a gaze at your lips, given by Shuri. She glanced back up at your eyes before giving you a smile, sending you a wink, and getting up to finally make her exit out of the room.
Your rivers were flowing so potently, you could slip right out of your chair. She was always so reassuring. Attentive. Gentle. With every word and every action towards you. You wanted to believe she moved that way with you intentionally, simultaneously trying not succumb to injuries of your delusion. With that note, you decided to go back to your quarter and wash off the day. You'd been working exceptionally hard all week, especially today, being that you woke particularly early to put your last finishes touches on the project. It didn't need anymore altering, honestly, but the pressures of wanting to impress the Princess had definitely took over. As you approach your room, you place your palm on the panel beside your door, allowing it to scan your prints for access. You waste no time kicking off your shoes and peeling your clothes off your body, stockings, lab coat and all, letting it drop to the ground and immediately heading to the bathroom to start a hot shower.
ꨄ︎
You lay your towel across you bed and lay on it, not yet ready to have your freedom restricted by fabric. As you lay, you smile to yourself, overcome with gratitude that Shuri approved of your work. To tell the truth, the only reason you completed the project so fast was so that you could get back to your own. A personal project. You felt sort of guilty using the labs specific resources to make such a perverted creation, but you were dying to know how it felt. How it could feel. How she felt. Invading your walls, breaking them down & making you beg for her to repair them, just to break them down again.
As those feelings that were all too familiar began to rise, you decided to put its effectiveness to the test. You reach over to the dresser drawer beside you & open it, pulling out the gadget.
It was a 256T information-stored sex-toy. It may have looked like a regular, fancy-designed vibrating dildo, but stored inside was recollection of every memory of every encounter the two of you shared. The first glance, the first conversation, every accidental bump, nudge, & shoulder brush. Every piece of eye-contact delivered, every advised direction given.
Nervous, yet excited, you let out a hefty breath, shut your eyes, and held the tool up to your pair of lips, which were currently aching at the hands of desire. One click, and off it was set. Soon as the device made contact with your skin, off into imaginal bliss you went.
“Mm,” You moaned at the sensation. It started off as a soft, comforting vibration, and as the memories built, so did the intensity.
“Exceptional work. Welcome to the team.”
“Thank you so much, Princess. I’m beyond grateful.”
“Please, call me Shuri. What should I call you?”
“Y/N.”
“Y/N.” She smiled. Oh god, that smile. “A name fit for a scientist.”
“Oh, fuck,” Your chest began to heave up and down, as you chased the breath escaping from your lungs and out of your mouth.
“Alright team, let’s get a hold on these mission plans.”
“I don’t understand why we can’t just corner the sucker and blow him up with one of those kick-ass Wakandan canons.” A red head boy with circular specs blurted out.
“Would anybody like to tell me why that wouldn’t work?”
“He’d move so fast he’d dodge the blow?” Another scientist blurts out. Shuri closes her eyes and shakes her head in disapproval of the answer.
“He’s the under lord of the sea. He’d drown the surface area and blow out the canon circuit b-before it could even charge up.” You say semi-confidently.
Shuri’s eyes shoot up open and dart in your direction. “Bingo.” she says with a smile. “You’ve been paying attention. Good girl.”
“Ugh, yes!” You cry out. “I’m your good girl.”
Puzzled, frazzled & slightly confused, you stumbled in Shuri’s office, desperately in need of her guidance. You knock and the door slides open.
“Shuri?” You walk in, taking in the scenery, forgetting how beautiful her office really was. You take a minute to scan the ceilings, the walls, all of its intricate design. She had great taste. Walking backwards, you trip over the rug that ran from underneath her desk.
“Oh—!” You began to fall backwards, when your fall is stopped and barricaded by a pair of strong but steady hands, clamped around your waist.
“You’re good, I got you, I got you,” Soft, affirming words entered your ear canal in a slight whisper, coming from a velvety voice you oh-so-loved. It was quickly followed by a low chuckle that sent a riveting chill down your spine.
“Do you always walk backwards and not look where you're going?”
“Oh, Shuri,” your voice began to carry louder and farther. You couldn’t be more grateful for these sound-proof walls, because you were about to let it all go.
Your body began to vibrate under the pressure, and your juices began to coat around the circumference of the tool.
When you realized you stumbled into her arms, you began to get flustered, stealing a response from both your lips and your brain.
“I’m just messing with you. But what’s up, you okay?”
“I just— I”
“What is it, Y/N, what do you need from me? Let me help you.”
“Fuckkk, Shuri, just fuck me already, please!” You desperately buck yourself up against the toy, in attempts to fully immerse into your fantasy world. Your eyes began to flutter right to the back of your eyelids as one of your hands violently gripped the sheets beneath you. This is the closest you've ever gotten to feeling her and if you weren't so overcome by bliss right now, you'd be hella impressed at its successful function. On other side, a lengthy pair of footsteps paced by your door, alarmed, yet intrigued by the sounds emerging from your room. Shuri had been passing your floor, on her way back to her office, when the sound of your voice in what sounded like pleas stopped her in her tracks. She leaned her ear up against your door, making sure she didn't hear what she thought she was hearing. "You feel so good inside me, Shuri, fuck." Her body immediately heated up at the melodic sounds of your moans, but her heart dropped to the ground when she heard her own name attached to those lewd things you were saying. "Y-Y/N?" Your name fell faint from her lips as she tried to circle in on her own confusion. "Fuck, I'm cumming for you, Princess." You began to make a sloppy, slippery mess as you pumped the toy inside of you, sloshing around all your juices, pushing your orgasm way past your regular limits. "Fuck," Shuri sighed out a frustrated breath, mood switched from confused to turned on. Is this what you did in your free time? Is that what you really wanted? Losing the battle to her impulsive thoughts, she placed her palm on the dual-accessed panel and let herself in. She quietly leaned back on the wall, watching you from across the room, with intent. She watched your sexy frame fluidly squirm around in its place, riding out all its sensations. A smirk creeped across her face, compliments of her new feelings of arousal and her now enlarged ego. Her entrance was so silent, so swift, you continued your pleasuring without noticing the invasion. You sent yourself over the edge, imagining her tall, slim figure, hovering over you, working your body out, kissing across your jaw, whispering commands in your ear. Tell me it's mine. "It's yours, Shuri," Your eyes began to flood with tears, clouding your vision even with slightly cracked open eyelids. "It's all yours, baby." "You mean that?" You hear that familiar voice project itself from across the room, and somehow, even through all your deluded fantasy, you realized how real it sounded. Too real. You opened your eyes and were met with the pair of chocolate brown eyes you so often got lost in, but this time, they were shadowed with lust. You jumped so high, you could've jolted right out of your skin. "Shit!" You sat up, fighting to catch your breath, partially from all the work you had be exerting, partially from the jumpscare you had just encountered. "Shuri, what the fuck are you doing in here?" You grabbed your towel quickly from underneath your body and wrapped it around your naked figure. Her eyes widened, and she threw her hands up in defeat, shocked at your choice of words. She had never heard you speak so profanely. "Well, it kind of sounded like you wanted me in here just a second ago." She replied with her sarcasm and razor-sharp wit, slowly walking towards the edge of your bed, a hand behind her back. You nervously swallowed, fighting to coat your now dry throat, backing up further into your headboard. "I don't understand, H-how did you--" Shuri took her closed fist from behind her hand, lowering it and opening it, showing the kimoyo-bead you had left on the wall during your daily spy on Shuri's studies. Realizing what you had done, you were so embarrassed you could disintegrate right into the ground. "Your eavesdropping has failed you, today, Miss Y/N." In this moment, you wish you could disappear. Not only did you just get caught touching yourself aloud to the thought of your boss, you got caught eavesdropping as well.
How could you slip like this? I mean, after all, you had your secret admiration games down to a science, no pun intended. It was only one thing left to do.
“I-I’m so sorry. I had no intent of disrespecting you or your home like this. I’ll be out of here by dawn.” Each word you uttered cut through you like glass. The pain of having to resign from your dream job & possibly tainting whatever upstanding image the love of your life had of you all because you couldn’t control your sexual urges was enough to crush you.
Before you could lift up to collect your belongings, The Princess held a hand out to stop you.
“Nonsense.” She rises to her feet, staring down at you with a glare you can’t recall seeing before. It was demanding, but not condescending. It was almost, dare you say, an eagerness. "I just wish you would've told me sooner." She says, all seriousness in her tone of voice. "We could've solved this a long time ago." You could hear your heartbeat thumping, directly through your eardrum. The subtle implication spun your mind in every which direction. You didn't want to assume, but if she meant what you thought she did, this would change everything as you knew it. "What are you saying?" You decided to play dumb. You knew what she was getting it, you just needed to hear her say it. "I'm saying," She pulled you by your hips, down to the edge of the bed, causing you to gasp from sudden movement, and hovered over you, grounding both hands at each of your sides. "If you needed some loving from the Princess, I would've happily obliged." As turned on as you were, you couldn't hide the look of shock on your face. You had to be dreaming. "Don't act surprised. I'm like a baby around you. I can't even focus when you're around." You melted underneath her at her confession. All these burning desires and you could've had it with little to no effort. Silently you were cursing your shy and awkward nature. "Bullshit." Your shocked expression grew into a flirtatious smile. You were beaming inside, but you couldn't help to tug a little more. Shuri lowered herself to your lips and crashed into them with her own. Her tongue swiped across your lip asking for permission of entrance, and you accepted. You placed your hands and the sides of her jaw, deepening the passionate kiss between you two. You both moaned in each other's mouth, overwhelmed by the intensity. The heat between your bodies began to generate just like a furnace. You've never felt so much passionate energy before this very moment in your life. After what felt like minutes she finally pulled back from you. "I can give you exactly what you need." She said, staring directly in your eyes, careful not to leave any room for doubt. "But you gotta ask me." You could crawl into a ball and disappear. You were too much of a nervous wreck for this. Ask her? Were your cries and pleas heard from the other side of the door not enough? Truth be told, you wanted her so bad, you were wiling to do anything. You were so stuck in awe, it would take a minute for you to even be able to register the moment. "Come on, baby." She cooed, attempting to coax you out of your silence. "You were so vocal before. I know you know how to use that pretty mouth." You shivered at her forwardness and a moan involuntarily slipped out of your mouth, once again stroking her ego. "Shuri, please," You whined, making an attempt of getting out of the humiliation. "Please?" She mockingly raised her eyebrows, waiting for you to cave. "Please, fuck me. I need it, I need you." You managed to spill out. It was no turning back now. A warm yet sinister smile graced the royal's face. "Now, was that so hard?" She came up from over you, pulling you up with a firm but gentle squeeze around your throat. She pecked your lips a few times more before releasing her grip. "I'll do you one better." Curious to what she was referring to, you could feel the blood rushing through your veins. This was so unpredictable, she was so unpredictable. But it excited you. She took off her coat and her shirt, only being left in a crisp, white tank, bra-less. Though you wouldn't expect that from her, you weren't complaining. The more she revealed, the more beautiful she became. You could see the definition in her figure. You decide to help her undress, unbuckling her slacks and peeling them down to her knees. You reach for her boxers and she pops your hand. "Someone's a little excited, then?" It was so much teasing being given by her, and as much as it pissed you off, secretly it fueled your fire. She hopped up off the bed, slipping out her pants fully before hoisting you up by your lower back, sitting you on her hips.
You wrap your arms around her neck and tighten the grip of your legs around her waist.
She walks you over to the long, metal table you do all your procedures on, currently covered by a tablecloth and all your tubes & tools.
“You’re done with this. Right?” She takes the cloth and roughly yanks it off the table, knocking everything over, even breaking some things.
“Shuri! What the hell!” You nudge her shoulder in complete shock.
“I’ll replace it, don’t worry.” She lowers the table and lowers you down on your back, gently, making you arch and hiss from the contact of the cold metal.
She then begans leaving soft sensual kisses behind your ear, down to your neck and across your chest, while massaging your outer thigh.
You exhaled in attempt to relax, feeling like you were floating from the touch you so badly craved from her. It was like taking a hit of your first drug. Every touch left you feeling waves of intoxication. And there was no sobering up.
“Is this okay?” She asked looking up you for reassurance.
Through glossy eyes and a bottom lip trapped between your teeth, you nodded.
She continued her trail of kisses, traveling lower and lower, until eventually she made it to your promised land.
“Well, how pretty is she?” She asked rhetorically, gliding her two fingers across your clit, purposefully making a connecting line from your heat to her lips.
“Mm,” She moaned. “And tastes as good as she looks.”
Now impatient, you hooked your ankle over her shoulder and pulled her closer to you, leaving her centimeters from your dripping sex.
“Stop fuckin’ around, Shuri.”
“Oh?” She pretends to be taken aback. “I don’t know if I like your attitude. You waited 2 years, you could wait 2 more minutes, can’t you baby?”
She spread your lips open, exposing your pulsing and fully erect hood. Harshly, she spat on it, watching it drip down between your folds.
“Shhhit,” You moan out, dually in pleasure and in agony of this push and pull game. “No, no I can’t, please.”
“Plea—“ She began to mock you again and you interrupted before she could even continue. You no longer wanted to repeat yourself, so you give in.
“Please, just put your mouth on it, please, I’m fucking dripping,” Exclamation and grit all throughout your voice. Without hesitation she attaches her lips to your aching middle, and deeply french kisses it.
“Yes!” You cry out, grabbing onto the sides of the table for some sort of control. “Just like that.”
Moaning from your flavors, she hums, sending vibrations all through you. She alternates between soft and rough sucks, using your button as a pacifier. Her tongue spoke all 5 languages of love, making every reaction you give and sound you make a translator.
“Fuck, baby, you do it so well,” You were spitting out endless praise, overwhelmed by the pleasure you were feeling.
Pleased by your praise, she locks your thighs in place with her forearms, and flatten her tongues against you & rocks it up and down your center. You could feel every warm sensation, every round tastebud wrapping you up into a blissful embrace.
You lean up on your forearms and watch her every move with a dropped jaw and a set of furrowed brows, in dire need of catching this moment. You had the most beautiful, astounding, most talented girl giving you intense pleasure that she herself had be thinking of doing.
You felt your stomach begin to form knots, a clear indicator of the rise of your climax.
“Shuri I’m about to..to” You could barely get the words out, but even still, she wasn’t ready for you to just yet.
“Mm, mm.” She refused, coming up quickly. “Not yet.”
Before you knew it, she had pushed two fingers deep inside you, immediately reattaching her lips to you. With a steady rhythm she pumped in and out of you while attacking your clit with her tongue. She hungrily stared into your eyes until yours decided to make a detour into the back of your head.
“Shit, shit, shit!” Tears began forming again. “I can’t!”
You grabbed a handful of her curls and tugged them backwards, and instead of it holding her back, her grip became even stronger. She quickly replaced her fingers with her tongue and began fucking you with it, gripping your hips and knocking you into her. Your warm, soft juices coated the entire circumference of her mouth and then some.
You couldn’t control your moans nor the volume of them as you blurted out broken whimpers and your body began to shake. You released into her mouth and with one last peck, she thanked you.
“You did so good for me, Angel.” With enamored eyes you grab her by her neck, roughly kissing her and cleaning yourself from off her lips and her face.
“Come here,” To her command, you move over to her as she straps up. She picks you back up, making you airborne once more, and holds you up by your cheeks before sliding her length into you.
“Fuck!” Immediately you fall weak, legs giving out as soon as your walls were accompanied.
“It’s okay baby, you’re okay. Hold onto me,” She instructed you and you wrapped your arms around her neck with no sign of letting go.
Her slim, & veiny hands lifted you up and slid you back into her, primarily slow and steady. Each pump given to you was at a pace faster than the last. She was buried so deep inside you, your vaginal walls began to twitch, and the way she had you restricted, there was no way to run. She drilled inside you as you screamed bloody mary, sacral glands squirting out from underneath you.
“This is what you wanted, hm?” She taunted you between huffs and pants. “For me to fuck you like the slut you are?”
“Yes! Fuck, yes,” The way she was turning you inside out had absolutely nothing on what you had seen in all of your dreams. She was fucking you silly. You were starting to believe the desire wasn’t one-sided.
Reaching your limit, your medium french-set buried themselves into the skin of her back, sure to be leaving what would be a few scratches and welts in the AM.
You mustered up the strength to pull yourself to her, staring into her eyes, still moaning and singing her praises. You wanted her to know how good she was making you feel. And possibly how much you loved her, if she read deep enough.
“You’re so fucking pretty, Y/N,” She compliments, as she watches every face you make.
Grunting and groaning, her thrusts became sloppy, leading you to believe she was almost at her finish line. Before she could, she lifted you up off of her dick and placed your feet back onto the ground. You were entirely too weak to stand, but you’d quickly find out, you standing weren’t in her plans anyway.
With one quick motion, she turns you around and pushes you down back into the table.
You gasp heavily, the cold metal now being met with your hard and sensitive nipples. She holds her tip up against your entrance and rubs in between, subtly dipping in and coming back out every few rubs.
“So,” She leans down to your ear. “You like eavesdropping, do you?”
Your face gets hot from humiliation. You thought you were past this.
“I— I don’t.. I didn’t mean to—,” You try to plead your case but you were a stammering mess.
“Well,” She picks a kimoyo-bead off her bracelet and slams it down onto the wall. “Let’s see how much the others do as well.”
“Shuri, please,” You plead for her to change her mind.
“Aht, aht.” She hushes you. “Save it for the audience, baby.”
You felt your entire body heat up, so rattled by every emotion, in dire shock of what was actually happening rat the moment.
“Fuck you, Shuri.” You spat, so consumed by humiliation, you weren’t considering your possible consequences.
A cold silence runs after your statement and you could feel the switch in energy. She smooths your hair up in a ponytail with one hand and pulls your head back, forcing you to look up at her.
“Gladly.”
Shuri forced herself up into you, still craning your neck to look at her.
“Shit! Wait!” You immediately regret your actions.
Not letting you plead your case, she continued to eagerly rock herself into you, making your ass cheeks ricochet off her hips, creating violent smacking noises.
“Ohhhh, unh!” Your moans began to amplify the more you fought to conceal them. The hold she had you in was making your hovered nipple tips graze across the cool surface, sending you further into overstim.
“That’s it, baby,” Her sweet, soft lips sing your praises. “Let me hear you.”
You were whimpering and pleading in a blabbering mess, it was pathetic to say the least. But she looked so good, she felt so good.
“Tell everybody how good you feel. Tell them who’s making you feel this way.”
These sentences turned a switch on in you that was completely irreversible. Good. Everybody does need to hear. All those snickering, hair twirling, low life bitches, finding any reason to flaunt their bosom in her office. Any reason to touch her, any reason to bombard her with irrelevant questions.
They gave you looks whenever you were with her, they whispered wishes of your demise. With this realization, you completely surrendered to whatever outcome you would be given.
“Fuck, Shuri, you feel s-so good inside me,” You confessed. “Don’t fucking stop.”
Every few strokes she sent a stinging smack up your backside, making you yelp. She reached one hand down over your clit and begin making medium-paced circular motions, while still ramming inside of you.
“Shuriiii,” You stretched her name out as far as she had your lips stretched. “Yes!”
“My name sounds so much better off your lips.” She confessed.
You begged harder, deeper. She obliged your every wish. As you sobbed out overcome with emotion, she leaned down further kissing your sobbing lips. Even in sex, in her roughness, she was gentle.
What seemed like an ever-flowing stream of your release began dropping down both of your shaky, achy legs.
The royal moaned at the sight of you, literally pouring out for her. A few more strokes before she arrived at her own release and she was out of you and kneeling underneath you. She licked you clean, with a wide and flat tongue, from your ankles up to your center, going back in with sweet, passionate swirls and flicks of the tongue on your clit.
The sensation was so sweet and full of care that although you were crying from pleasure, you were also crying from the overwhelming emotions you were feeling.
She made you feel on top of the world. You wanted to make her feel like that.
She stood up and turned you around to face her. She placed a palm on your cheek, thumb rubbing it, admiring your fucked out facial expression and the adoration in your eyes.
You pulled her into you, smashing your lips into hers, dying to feel the safety of them again, and tasted yourself off her lips.
“See how good you taste, nkozsana?” She asked, piercing you with her eye contact and sending chills down your spine with her native tongue.
“I want to taste you.” You blurt out, desperately.
“There’s no need. I just wanna make you feel good.” She replied.
“That would make me feel so good.” You slur your words with full intent of seducing.
You rub your palms across her shoulders and down her chest, lifting the tank once you get to the bottom of her torso. You kiss all down her now exposed skin, kissing around her chest, down her rib cage, down her navel.
“Please, baby?” you looked up at her from your new kneeled position. You felt her shiver between your hands.
She looked down at you and almost melted where she stood. She had such a soft spot for you. She nervously swallowed before caving in and nodding her head, yes.
You smirked to yourself before standing up and taking her hand, leading her to the bed and lightly pushing her back. You instructed her to move back to the middle of the bed and you crawled up to her.
Your acrylic nails aided in the separation of the skin of her waist and the rim of her boxers. You tugged them off her hips and slide them the rest of the way off her legs.
You took a moment, admiring her beauty. For the first time, you saw Shuri Udaku get flustered. Her ‘too cool for school’ nature seemed to take a leave of absence.
Without breaking eye contact, you lowered yourself to her lower stomach, leaving kisses across it. Seeing her squirm under the delicacy of your touch avenged your yearning soul.
You traveled further and further down til you were hovering over her enterprise. From your view, you could see every sticky droplet of sweat, every hair follicle, every sacred part of her being. She sat up on her forearms, watching your every move, tank still folded and breasts still exposed.
You spread her open further with one hand, pinning it in its place and you began your endeavors. Your tongue slowly but efficiently exploring all of her surface area, nothing going untouched. You paid extra attention to her bud, gently sucking and flicking, switching up your speeds.
“Bast—“ Shuri breathed out, in awe of your talent. She reached down to push you off, and before she could you interlocked your fingers with hers and pinned both of your hands to her chest.
“Y/N,” She began to cry out your name, not knowing it was only your ammunition to continue. With feverish pleasure, you spelled your name in cursive across her sensitivity, mentally claiming her to be yours. You wanted this forever. You wanted her forever.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, I’m cumming, nkoszana,” Her chest heaved up and down, legs beginning to shake. She had never experienced a sexual favor done so passionately, it began to overwhelm her.
You rubbed the sides of her thighs, non-verbally encouraging her to ride it out, while you continued attacking her clit, moaning to send consecutive vibrations into her. Her eyes rolled back into her head as she bucked her hips up, sending herself further into your trap.
Gasping for air, she lets go into you and you clean her up with pride.
As you came back up, she looked at you, astoundingly, in disbelief of what she, 1, allowed you to do to her, and 2 how good you were at it. You smiled nervously, not being able to conceal your chuckle.
“Come here,” She grabbed your arm and tugged you, making you fall directly on top of her. You giggled at her assertiveness.
“Yes?” You ask still smiling down at her.
She pulls you down to her lips, kissing you with the intention of making you feel her gratitude.
“Thank you.” She speaks onto your lips.
You look up at the alarm clock resting on your nightstand, and she positions her neck backwards from underneath you, following your eyes.
“It’s 5 AM.” You start.
“Shit. I gotta go back to my office and set up for the rest of the day.” She says hurriedly, beginning to lift up.
“Can’t you just stay for a little while longer?” You ask her sweetly, purposely putting on the voice that you now know is her weakness.
“Don’t do that to me,” She says fighting off her urges. “I wish I could, but I have a nation to lead.”
“Even Princess’s take vacations, you know,” You reply in a jokey tone.
“Do they?” She chuckled. “I’ll have to invest in one another time.”
Defeated, you began to pout. She lifts up and kisses your lips.
“Put your lips back where they were,” She laughs, teasing you.
You lift up off of her and help her up before she gathers her clothes and puts them back on. The two of you walk back to the door, and she turns around to face you, leaning against it.
“How about I come back tonight?” Shuri asked, holding your hands.
“Hmmm, I don’t know, Princess. I’m a very busy girl.” You tease her.
“Oh, are you?” She chuckles, eyes quickly scanning all of the broken glass materials that lay just a few feet from you both.
You roll your eyes at her sarcasm. “Very funny.”
“You can come back whenever you want.”
“Mm.” She hums. “That’s what I like to hear.”
“Well what if you can’t come back tonight? I thought tonight was your presentation night with the board?” You ask, semi in panic. You really needed to see her again.
“Shit, you’re right. I’m sorry, nkoszana.” Her eyes paced around, in thought, as if she was searching for a solution.
“Well, you could always come to my office. There’s always some work for you to do.” She says with a slick tone in her voice. “Actually, you have some paperwork you haven’t finished that’s past it’s deadline.”
You smiled brightly at her insinuation, knowing very clearly where this was going. “Oh, no, how could I let that happen?”
She shook her head and gave a tsk, tsk, tsk, in her cosplay of disappointment. “I don’t know, but i’m not very pleased with you, Miss Y/N. You will have to make that up to me.”
“Tell me how to fix it,” You say lowly, your arousal slowly building back up.
“Be at my office at 4pm, sharp.” She lifts your chin and lowers herself down to your ear. “And don’t be late. Or that’s an extra penalty.”
She returned back to her above eye level position before kissing your lips once more.
“Yes, Princess,” You promised, impatiently waiting for this day to speed up.
She grabbed the kimoyo bead from off the wall and placed it in her lab coat pocket.
“You give a great performance.” She winked at you before sliding the door open and slipping out, disappearing into the rest of her day.
Smiling from ear to ear, you turn around, and you’re met with the mess that was made earlier, bringing you down from your high.
You quickly open the door and yell down the hall.
“Hey! Come clean up this mess!”

Summary: Bucky might be too late to tell you how he feels.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female Reader
Word Count: ~5.2k
A/N: An idea that popped up in my head and finally broke through the struggle I've been having while writing. Enjoy and feast upon this! Also add yourself to the taglist(s) >here<
Steve narrowed his eyes at the brooding figure in front of the mirror, trying to figure out what exactly was itching in his brain.
Bucky had always been a charmer, and a damn good one at that. From when he first met Steve’s mother, Sarah, sporting a few bruises and a busted lip, to when he was getting drafted in the war.
Sarah was a kind woman, but that didn’t mean she trusted easily. With Steve’s father and a few relatives that turned away in their time of need, Sarah fell apart with her own friends and family. Her trust dwindled and started to dim until Steve showed up with Bucky in tow after school. She was weary at first, perhaps thinking that Bucky was no good news, but as the days progressed along with their friendship, she started viewing him as a son. He was around every few days for dinner, bringing a few things that he passed along as extra food the maid had conveniently accidentally brought with her.
It didn’t take too long for Sarah to put two and two together, but she never said anything to him. Never scolded him for bringing food to their dinner. She knew he did it out of love, not pity or sympathy. He loved Steve as a brother and looked up at Sarah with a boyish grin that made it impossible for her to be mad.
Steve watched Bucky now, remembering the days when Bucky would simply grab any shirt and pants to wear, grinning as he told Steve about this new dame that had moved into town. He was confident and struck with features that had any woman falling into his arms with just one lopsided smile. A few more grins and some dances later, the woman would offer to leave. Sometimes Bucky would agree with dimples, other times he would politely refuse and say he wanted to do things right.
Bucky lacked that confidence now, Steve realised, eyebrows rising slightly on his face. It wasn’t evident at first glance. Bucky was steady and graceful, not once faltering in his movements as he knotted his tie. Nor as he shrugged on his blazer. It was when his eyes would flicker over the mirror in front of him. It was obvious when his hand brushed over a spot on his shoulder a few times and fixed his tie to sit straight. Even more so when he fixed the collar of his shirt and then his blazer, only to find his hair sitting slightly off and fixing that instead.
“You’re nervous,” Steve breathed out, breaking the comfortable silence that they had been in for a few minutes. Bucky paused his actions for a second before seemingly deciding to ignore his comment. Steve watched him pull his shirt sleeves under his blazer, jaw ticking when he caught Steve’s eyes through the mirror.
“I’m not,” he said simply, as if that ended the conversation. Steve was curious though. Never in his life had he seen Bucky nervous for a social gathering, much less a party that Tony was throwing. After the whole debacle in DC, Bucky had recovered well and fast, thanks to T’Challa’s favour and Shuri’s brains. His memories were hazy at times and he had nightmares—sometimes he had to be restrained by Steve—but that was four years ago.
Over the past two years, Bucky was able to sleep throughout the night at least four nights in a week. Those night terrors had decreased to about five in the past year or so and his memories had been recovered. He remembered the diner that had been down the block from Steve’s house, the smell of his mother’s cinnamon buns, and the wretched taste of mud and blood in his mouth during the war. His social etiquette returned and Tony started inviting him to parties that Bucky had no problem attending. He was more than happy to indulge women and men in his charms once again.
“Yes, you are,” Steve deadpanned, sitting up straighter when Bucky shook his head and sighed. His hands came down from his tie that he was adjusting again. He looked at Steve through the mirror before turning around to face him and dropped the hand that had come up to check his hair.
“What makes you think that?” Bucky asked instead. Steve knew he was deflecting the question, but gave in and nodded at his form.
“That.” Steve nodded at him again. Bucky frowned and looked down at his clothes, arms going up at his sides. Just as Bucky was about to speak again, Steve cut in. “You’ve been looking at yourself over and over again.” Steve watched Bucky carefully before realization dawned on him.
“You’re nervous ‘cause she’s going to be there,” he voiced out in a breathless manner. Steve hadn’t even thought of that and he inwardly cursed at himself for not seeing it sooner. Of course, the reason Bucky was nervous was because of the one person who seemed to be able to throw Bucky off his charms.
Bucky opened his mouth to retaliate, but stopped short when Steve raised an eyebrow at him in challenge. He closed his mouth and averted his eyes as if his eyes would give away the feeling that was smothering him slowly. He licked his lips, turning his attention to a lint that had stuck onto his pants. His hands were sweaty, but he kept them steady as he picked at the lint and smoothed out the wrinkle at his chest. His nerves were acting up today, for this party, simply because you were coming back from Greece.
“She hasn’t been here in two years,” Bucky finally said, sighing as he brought his eyes back up to meet Steve’s gentle gaze. His shoulders fell with an exhale, trying to calm his thudding heart and roaring ears. “She hasn’t seen me since—since I was still recovering.” When Steve’s eyebrows furrowed, Bucky knew he didn’t understand what he meant.
“But you guys kept in contact the entire time,” Steve mumbled, grabbing his shoes to put them on and keeping his head down. It gave Bucky a chance to turn around without the annoying glare Steve would send his way for trying to cut the conversation off.
Bucky did keep in contact with you when he could. He had texted you everyday for the first three months and sent daily reminders to eat because he knew you would forget while working. The texts had abruptly stopped from his end when he was called away on a SHIELD stealth mission. That meant he had called you the second he was able to, throwing off his shoes and tossing his duffel bag away, he called you. You didn’t pick up. He called again and again, but then registered that you were probably asleep.
He went through your texts, ranging from the top ones of concern to the bottom ones of realization to the last few that varied from your daily tasks. His heart had never felt heavier. The suffocating feeling lingered on his shoulders as he forced himself to lay down. He just couldn’t let go of his phone or turn his head off. He kept his phone on his chest, hair dampening the pillow as he laid awake staring at the ceiling. He kept wishing you called back, but you didn’t. He texted you in the morning with heavy eyes, drooping shut every now and then.
You responded and he started texting like usual, only this time it was rare for you to reply in the same day. His social battery lowered and he usually found himself in the corner with a drink or leaving early with a quick excuse. He never asked why the texts had been reduced. He was too scared of getting an answer his heart couldn’t handle. His heart already ached with each passing day you two spent apart, not knowing how you were doing. He wouldn’t be able to text you if you told him that you had met someone and were busy with them.
He was a coward. A coward for not telling how he felt when you left.
You were the only one that didn’t tip-toe around him and treat him like he was made of porcelain. You were gentle, but that didn’t stop you from telling him exactly what you thought. You respected his boundaries that had been set quietly. You didn’t touch him before telling him and asking if it was okay, but you also told him that he should get used to people not asking before touching as well. You kept your distance from his left side if you two walked together, knowing very well he still wasn’t over the murder and torture it had executed.
It was easy to fall for you. You made it so easy for him to stumble, trip, and fall in.
“Buck?” Steve’s voice was tinged with concern and worry, a small crack seeping through the vowel. Bucky’s eyes flickered up, hands unconsciously sliding down his front to smoothen out his shirt again.
Bucky swallowed. “Yeah, we did.” His throat burned with the white lie. You two had stopped texting each other three weeks ago with a simple ‘goodnight’ from the both of you.
Steve stood up, his light blue blazer and pants with the white shirt made the green flecks in his eyes pop and the blue seem darker. Steve looked over at him once, eyebrows furrowing in deep thought as his eyes swiped over his outfit. From the black loafers to the midnight blue pants to the matching blazer and black shirt to the silver tie he had worn. In a few seconds, Bucky watched Steve’s confused face morph into one of amusement.
“You wore her colours,” he declared with an annoyingly smug grin. He fixed his cuffs as he stared at Bucky who cleared his throat at the accusation.
Bucky felt his cheeks warm with the obvious choice. It was unintentional at first, picking out the silver tie and blue blazer, but Bucky had realized soon enough that they were your signature colours. He was looking for your colours when he shopped. He had stopped and picked out a few blazers in different styles and some with patterns, but they had all been a dark blue colour. His ties at the last few events had some incoherent swirls of silver. His hair had been swept to the side since you had complimented it styles like that.
Bucky ignored Steve’s expression and gruffed out, “We should go.” Steve somehow agreed and started for the door, but stopped short with his hand on the knob.
“You should tell her how you feel tonight,” Steve said gently before twisting the knob and stepping into the hallway. Bucky could hear the loud metal music blasting through the Compound then, his door wide open as Steve made his way down the hall towards what Tony liked to call the party room. Bucky swallowed thickly, the burning feeling back in his throat, and followed Steve down the hall.
Steve stopped in front of the doors with a wicked grin. “Thor brought his Asgardian liquor,” he told him, emitting an easy grin from Bucky. That was a good thing, Bucky thought. If he had to face you tonight, talk to you maybe, he wouldn’t be able to do it sober.
Steve pushed open the doors and spread out his arms to announce his arrival. Bucky rolled his eyes and pushed past him, straight to the bar where Natasha was standing with Clint while Thor made drinks. With the heavy music now over, a pop song that he had heard once or twice before playing, he could hear the clinks of glasses and chatters humming in the air. The dance floor was bustling with SHIELD agents that had been invited as per Tony’s request. He didn’t know all of them, but he could recognise a few as he walked by.
“Ah, Bucky!” Clint greeted, patting him on the back and drawing him nearer. His hand was wrapped around a bottle of vodka that Bucky was sure was Natasha’s favourite. It was the strongest stuff in the bar—other than the Asgardian liquor, of course. “Settle a debate for us, will ya?” Bucky inwardly grimaced at the smell of vodka on his breath and slightly pulled back.
“What’s it?” Bucky asked, looking between the three of them with a grin. He leaned against the bar island just as Thor came over with Asgardian liquor. He dropped a small pail of ice near him and nodded at it. Bucky nodded back his thanks.
“How long that guy’ll last here,” Clint said with a loopy grin. He took a swing out of the bottle, looking over at Natasha with a wag of his eyebrows. “I say two weeks before he runs.” Bucky took a sip of his drink, eyebrows furrowing and eyes darting to Natasha for answers. Clint was clearly teetering on the brink of tipsy and drunk, slurring his words together. Natasha was perched on the stool with a sober expression on her face while her eyes were fixed on Bucky.
“Wait,” Bucky breathed out with a light chuckle, “who are we talkin’ about?” He pushed off the island and looked at Natasha expectantly. The pop music had turned into slow, smooth jazz-type of music that was almost sensual. Natasha leaned forward, towards Bucky as if she was going to share a secret. To his surprise and confusion, Natasha’s eyes softened with something close to pity.
“Y/N’s boyfriend, Sohan,” she whispered, her emerald eyes flickering towards the dance floor.
Bucky’s eyes followed her eyesight, painfully slowly, to the dance floor where you danced with Sohan. He was a dark-haired and dark-eyed man with lightly tanned skin. The blood rushed to his ears, heart thudding violently in his ears as he watched Sohan lean in towards you. He looked away before your lips made contact. He felt as if someone had dumped that pail of ice down his back. A shiver licked up his spine and he downed his drink, eyes and throat burning with the harsh liquor.
“So, what d’you think, Buckaroo?” Clint asked and leaned forward to lay on the island, oblivious to the feelings coursing through Bucky.
Bucky slammed his glass down loudly enough to grab Thor’s attention. “Get me the whole bottle, please,” he gritted out angrily. Thor looked uncomfortable with the glance Natasha sent him, but he gave over one of the few bottles he had brought with the scowl setting onto Bucky’s face.
Bucky swiped the bottle off the table and popped open the cork. He put it to his mouth and looked over his shoulder to see you speaking into Sohan’s ear. His eyes quickly drank you in. The black dress you wore had a corset that clung to your torso and accentuated your curves. The tulle flared out slightly and the fabric underneath it was decorated with delicate gold accents.
They were his colours.
He spun around and chugged faster, ignoring the look Thor was giving Natasha.
“Two hours,” Bucky muttered out and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. His throat felt like it was on fire. Somewhere, in the more logical side of his brain, he knew he shouldn’t drink so fast. Thor’s eyebrows pinched in concern when he saw the half empty bottle.
“Bucky, I think that—” Thor cut himself off at the withering glare Bucky sent his way. Before Bucky had a chance to feel guilty about his behaviour, Thor turned away with a small smile to attend to another attendee.
Bucky bitterly reminded himself that he had no reason to be angry at anyone, but himself. The slow songs changed into heavy rock again, Tony’s enthusiastic voice echoing amongst the drums and guitars. He brought up his hand to run it through his hair, shaking with emotions he couldn’t place. It wasn’t pure anger or jealousy. Heartbreak perhaps. He took another large gulp and felt a gentle hand touch his shoulder.
He looked over, a scowl on his face and intentions to tell the person to fuck off, but the words died on his lips when he saw your face.
Your lips were painted a deep red and stretched out into a gentle smile. Your hair tumbled down in soft curls that made him want to hide his face in it. A smither of glitter on your nose and peaks of your cheekbones highlight your face, contrasting it from the smokey eyeshadow and black eyeliner coating your eyes. He hadn’t noticed the sheer fabric that covered your stomach, showing off skin when the light hit it just right. The urge to spin you around, kiss your cheeks, lips, neck, was strong. He held back.
He could tell you put effort into your makeup so he grinned through his heartbreak and said, “Don’t you look like something outta a fairytale?” He wasn’t sure if you would fall into the category of pretty princesses or of attractive villains. His thoughts were muddled, even more so with the liquor starting to take effect. He would regret drinking so much in the morning. If he made it through the night, at least.
“Thank you, Buck,” you said with a grin. He couldn’t just call it a grin though, not when it set every fiber of his body on fire. His head spun when you let your eyes glide over his body through hooded lids. “You look handsome, too.”
Your fingers delicately pressed into his shoulder before sliding towards his neck to adjust his collar and then his ties. He could feel your hand burn through his shirt, branding his skin with your print, resting it just over his heart. He could have sworn he felt an electric shock course through his veins when you patted his chest. When you grinned, the teasing one that you sent him during boring meetings, he felt his shoulders relax from their tense state. He grinned back automatically, forgetting about his breaking heart and the man you were here with when you were looking at him just like you looked at him before.
“How are you?” You asked, pulling away and waving to Thor. You acted as if nothing was wrong. As if he was the only one who felt the heat of tension and urges of desire, laced with sweetness. He still tasted the bitter remnants of the Asgardian liquor on his tongue, hoping you wouldn’t be able to smell it.
“Good,” he replied simply. There was no need to tell you how much he had changed. You didn’t need to know that his sleep was nonexistent when you didn’t text back. His attitude, his recovery, his emotions that had grown, those were all hidden on the tip of his lying tongue. He was not okay, but you didn’t need to know that.
“I’m glad, Bucky.” Your hand landed on his forearm to squeeze it lightly. Thor placed two drinks in front of you with a wink, glasses clinking on the marble as he slid them towards you. You smiled at him, a little dimmer than the one you sent Bucky right after. “Wanna meet Sohan? He’s really sweet.”
He wanted to say no. “Sure, darlin’.” There was no way he could say no to you when you looked so endearingly adorable. Lips pulling wider a bit and eyes lighting up with relief, you looked around the crowd. You gestured to Sohan to come over when you saw him. He excused himself from Tony and sauntered over to you with a grin Bucky knew meant he was cocky.
Bucky’s gut dropped.
“Hey, princess,” Sohan started and patted your lower back in greeting. He nodded his head at Bucky with a slightly smaller smile, one that held a linger of smirk. “You must be the famous Bucky Barnes.” He extended a hand towards him.
Bucky refrained from cringing and gripped his hand. It was a little tighter than he usually would have held someone’s hand, but he was sure it wouldn’t hurt. He didn’t notice that it was his metal hand until Sohan’s eyes widened.
“Fuck!” Sohan whipped his hand back with a howl, holding it to his chest. You were by his side immediately, hands on his bicep and face, gently prying his hand away from his chest to inspect it. No marks or bruises appeared, no broken bones were heard cracked. Yet your eyebrows furrowed in concentration, seeking out any hurting places with the tips of your finger pressing in.
Bucky watched with a stoic face, knowing that he hadn’t pressed in too hard. It was for show. He could see the way Sohan’s eyes quickly darted over you in admiration, brown eyes twinkling. He could feel Natasha’s eyes on him and, out of the corner of his eye, saw her exchange a glance with Thor. Steve had appeared sometime before for a drink, now standing beside Bucky with his chest puffed out and ready to defend, no doubt. Once you were done checking his hand, you pulled away with a small smile on your lips, looking at Bucky.
“He’s all good,” you said simply, grabbing your drink and taking a sip. Bucky’s heart skipped a beat, tongue darting out to lick his dry lips. His hand gripped the neck of his bottle a little tighter when Sohan opened his mouth.
“Could be more careful with that death trap,” he muttered bitterly, sending a glance over Bucky’s shoulder and looking at Steve once. Bucky scowled at Sohan. Before Steve or Natasha could say anything to defend Bucky, you turned to Sohan with a glare.
“Say anything to him and you’re done interning for me,” you bit out through gritted teeth. Bucky’s eyes flickered to you in surprise.
Interning. He was a fucking intern. Not your goddamn boyfriend.
He slammed his bottle once on the counter and turned to Natasha with a newly found emotion of betrayal and anger, ignoring the other four pairs of eyes on him. Those glances she gave Thor when he heard her tell Bucky that Sohan was your boyfriend suddenly made sense. It clicked in his head that it was her plan. Natasha fucking Romanoff wanted him to feel his heart break. He didn’t know why just yet, but he was going to find out sooner or later. Whether it be a calm conversation on comfortable sofas or a quick spar on the mat to beat it out of her—she never took the easy way out anyway.
Your hand wrapped around his hand on the bottle, gently pulling his fingers off of its neck and intertwining your hands together. Your other hand came to cup his chin, tenderly pressing your palm into his cheek and forcing him to face you. When he didn’t budge, glowering at Natasha with a murderous fire in his eyes, he felt your body heat envelop him in its embrace. Your lips brushed over his earlobe, a shudder running through his body at the contact and a shaky exhale making its escape from his lips.
“Let’s go to our spot, yeah?” You whispered into his ear. Your breath was hot and cool at the same time. He absentmindedly nodded and let your hand guide him out of his chair and out of the room, leaving behind a gaping Sohan. He would beat the reasons out of Natasha tomorrow or the day after, depending on what happens with you.
You reached the doors to the balcony and pushed them open to be hit with the cool night air, the smell of summer in the air. You sighed lovingly and dragged him along to the edge of it, looking over the trees and the landscape of the city in the distance. The crescent moon and stars twinkled overhead, disappearing the closer they got to the city lighting. He watched you close your eyes and breath in the scent of leaves and plants before looking over at him with a raised eyebrow.
He shook his head and muttered out, “Nothing.” Your face pinched in pain at his response. You let go of his hand and gripped the railing, turning your face away from him. He felt a stab under his rib. “Y/N?” He placed his hand—his metal hand—over yours, inflicting a mild squeeze in hopes of providing some solace. He wasn’t ready for you to turn back to him with unshed tears in your eyes. Another stab-like feeling ensued in his chest.
“Who is she?” You raised a hand to wipe your tears away, carefully so you didn’t smudge eyeliner and mascara, before they fell. You averted your eyes once again, looking down below at the parking lot. His blazer crinkled and his loafers skid as he turned to lean his side on the railing. He tilted his head down, placing his warm hand under your chin and tipped your head back slightly so that he could meet your gaze.
Eyebrows furrowing, he asked, “What?” He had had half a bottle of Asgardian liquor in under five minutes and he was starting to feel it start to hit him, but he was sure it hadn’t muddled his mind that much. Not to the point where he forgot someone.
“The woman you’re in love with,” you mumbled out slowly. Bucky blinked once and then again, eyebrows now furrowing further in together. His lips curled down in a frown, hands coming down and seizing yours. You shifted to mimic his position, letting him lace your fingers together.
“Come again?” His voice was low and rough, more puzzle pieces joining together the more he racked his gears. He stepped closer to you, the skirt of your dress brushing his pants. His hands itched to touch your waist, your hips, and feel your skin through the opaque fabric covering you. He wanted to pull you close, wrap his arms around you, kiss your neck, but he could control those urges right now.
“Natasha said you were in love with someone,” you mumbled, eyes dropping to his tie. Of course, Natasha was involved somehow. “Steve said you had been for a while when I asked him.” Bucky wanted to groan in frustration. Steve probably told you that because he had been in love with you for years now. A long while. Bucky had loved you for a long time, but never had he had the courage to say it out loud.
You slid your hands out of his grasp and fixed his tie. He gave in to one of his urges and placed his hands on your hips, being respectful of where his hands were placed. He didn’t want to read this wrong. Your tears and the questions you asked, even the way you ghosted him three weeks ago, made sense. His senses were working well enough for him to know what you were feeling. He felt his lips tug into a smirk, a little mischief seeking through his demeanor and into the sober moment you two were having.
“I do love her,” he whispered and gripped your hips a bit tighter each time he spoke. “I’ve loved her for a while. A long time. Ever since I met her. She’s so incredible and kind and gentle, but she doesn’t take any shit from me.”
He thought back to the few times you broke the news of his past, affirming that those things weren't and were never going to be his fault. He took a step closer to you, loafers disappearing into your tulle skirt. Your heels bumped his shoes, breath hitching at the closing proximity. One of his hands slipped behind to your lower back, index finger drawing slow and deliberate swirls on you. Your hands shook as you raised them to his face, thumb caressing his cheekbones and fingers lightly tracing his jaw.
“She’ll tell me it exactly how it is and she knows exactly what I need. She’s funny and her laugh makes me want to keep making her laugh.”
His eyes darted down to your lips, remembering the giggles that had left your lips for every sarcastic comment he had passed during any boring meetings. How he had mourned the loss of your laughter when you had left for Greece. His tongue licked his lips as he watched your lips curl upwards. He raised his eyes to meet your teary gaze. This time he knew it was a good thing. His heart soared into his throat.
“She loves my friends like her family, she saves people with her talents, and she cares for me.” His hands cupped your face and he leaned down closer to you. “Her name is Y/N and I love her with every breath I take.”
“You do?” You choked out, an airy chuckle escaping your lips.
Bucky nodded and whispered, “Yeah, I love you, Y/N. I love you, darlin’, so much.” His lips landed on your forehead, mumbling promises and some more declarations of love against your skin.
You pulled away from him, eyes twinkling with tears and happiness. “I love you, too, Bucky.” Bucky’s shoulders fell with his next deep exhale, thumbs swiping over your cheeks and tucking a stray hair behind your ear. He saw your eyes flicker down to his lips twice and he absentmindedly ran his thumb along your bottom lip.
“You’re drunk,” you managed to whisper against the pad of his thumb. He pulled back a little, letting go of your face and placing his hands on your hips. He knew you weren’t rejecting him—just conscious of the fact that he had had a bottle in his hand, halfway empty. He spun you two around a bit to have your back against the railing.
“Doesn’t matter. ‘A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts’,” he mumbled, shrugging. He let go of your hips. He was giving you a way out of this if you wanted it, taking half a step back. You took a second to think about it.
He was about to tell you that it was okay if you wanted to go back in and talk about this tomorrow—after he beat Natasha in a spar—when you moved. Your hands brought his head down and your lips connected with his. He groaned at the contact, arms wrapping around your waist to pull you close and leave no inch of space between your bodies. He heard the little noises you let out, moaning and whimpering into the kiss. Those little sounds of his made his head spin and his body heat with desire. He picked you up, arms wrapped just under your ass. Tilting back and stepping backwards, his back hit the wall near the door.
Only then did you two pull away, chests heaving and breaths mingling together.
“You wore my colours,” you breathed out.
“You wore mine,” he said huskily, two finger tracing the ribbons that tied your corset together.

am i worthy of this gift?
shuri x reader
summary: after the birth of your newborn daughter, shuri makes a promise to her, she’d always be there.
ib:
it was around 3– maybe 4am, you and your wife, shuri were laying in bed, soundly asleep, until the sound of your daughter, amani’s, cries interrupted your slumber.
ever since the bundle of joy was born, it seemed like you haven’t gotten any rest, and it looked and quite literally was taking a toll on you. as you groaned and prepared yourself to get up, shuri stopped you.
“lay back down, umfazi, i’ll get her.” she reassured you softly, giving you a gentle kiss on your forehead and throwing the duvet off of her while you laid your head back down on your silk pillow.
shuri steadily walked up to the crib, “hey, hey..” she whispered to the tiny one, picking her up and softly bouncing her in her arms, making her way to the large accent chair.
catch me i’ve fallen in love for the first time
she rocked amani close to her, letting her hear the steadiness of shuri’s heartbeat as she took slow, calm breaths, softly rubbing her back and kissing her atop her head.
soon the girl’s cries turned to hiccups, then to coos.
for you i drop the tough guy shit, on this bus i sit
the queen chuckled to herself, “made all of that fuss.” she teased, smiling down at the little princess. she studied the infants features, god she had to be the most gorgeous baby she’d ever seen, or maybe she was just biased.
“hi omncinci” she whispered, gently wiping off the tears from her daughters chubby cheeks with her thumb.
“you were waking mommy up, you know? she’s been really sleepy..”
amani only stared up at her with her big brown eyes.
the royal shook her head, “i don’t know why i’m talking to you as if you can even comprehend words.” she exhaled, watching the gummy smile spread across the princess’ face. the sight only warmed shuri’s heart more.
reminisce when you came out the womb
“what am i going to do with you omncinci?” she spoke, mainly to herself.
she was blessed with the intelligence to be able to grant the gift of the both of you, two females, to create a child with both of your combined dna. but she feels like she might waste it.
what if she isn’t a good mother? what if she doesn’t know how to help you when you need her? how to connect with the little bundle of joy once she grows and matures? will they both fight? will they even like each other?
the soft giddily screech of her daughter snapped her out of her thoughts.
she brought amani up to kiss her over her face, she couldn’t laugh just yet, but shuri could tell she was trying, it made her giggle to herself.
“are you trying to laugh? are you laughing at me encinci?” she mocked, tickling the infant in her stomach, causing her legs to squirm.
tears of joy i think filled up the room
she could remember the day that you both had announced the birth of your daughter to the nation. they called her the kingdom’s gift, and that she is. she was something, someone, you all needed.
shuri remembered the spark in your tear filled eyes as amani was brought into your arms. she hadn’t cried when she came out of your womb, she merely looked around, after just coming into the world, she was curious little thing.
you told her how perfect she was, how beautiful she looked, she had shuri’s skin complexion but had your eyes, with the longest, prettiest lashes. a mop of curls set atop her head. and she was so little, almost as if you could crush her if you held her too hard.
she truly was perfect and had to be the most gorgeous baby you both had ever laid your eyes upon, and the kingdom agreed.
you are now the reason that i fight
it had seemed like time had slowed down as shuri had first seen the baby girl. she had never cried that much since the death of her mother and her brother.
but now she was blessed with the gift of a family of her own.
“i promise you,” her voice cracked, as a single tear fell down her cheek, “i’m going to be here for you, i wont ever let you go.”
i ain’t never did nothing this right in my whole life
“i always give you a shoulder to cry on, then i’ll dry your tears, i’ll clear the skies when it rains, i’ll make sure you never feel anything but joy, i’d give you the moon and stars if you asked me, i’d move mountains for you, i’d keep away all the big bad wolves that would even dare to mess with you, i won’t ever let any harm come to you, sithandwa.”
got me thinkin’…
“i love you.”
am i worthy of this gift?

"Should you be back in my lab so soon?"
Her voice makes everything still, and not even Ayo's eyes so firmly set on you matter. Every muscle in your body is frozen, as always.
"Your majesty," you nod, and watch as Shuri makes her way inside. "I'm sorry. I know you said don't be back so soon—"
"And yet, here you are," Shuri interrupts. In under five seconds inside the room, her presence has commanded everything—from your prognosis projected from your beads into thin air, to the aura of command that so far, belonged to Okoye sitting in the corner with her legs crossed. "What was it this time?"
"Reckless abandon and, what I suspect, the desire to see a certain—" Okoye starts, only to be interrupted by you.
"Improvements." Your heart rate betrays you in the back, but Shuri's eyes are on you. "Ayo mentioned improvements. I'm always curious."
"You don't have to be curious and injured to come here," Shuri shrugs. "You're the youngest Dora in training Okoye's ever recruited. I trust you not to break things or touch anything in the lab you shouldn't."
It's not the things I'm worried about.
"Let's take a look at you." Shuri's words make you nod, solemn and tongue-tied.
As straightforward as ever. Ayo clears her throat, and says, "As I was saying, Your Highness, our dear sunshine over there thinks she's still in the ballrooms sometimes."
As straightforward as ever. Ayo clears her throat, and says, "As I was saying, Your Highness, our dear sunshine over there thinks she's still in the ballrooms sometimes."
"Ah," Okoye smacks her teeth. "You're just upset she injured herself after managing that move."
Ayo scoffs, turning around with her mouth wide open. "She almost stabbed Aneka."
"Almost being the keyword," Okoye retorts, sending you a smile that turns sour in two seconds. With her eyes set on you, her eyebrows pierce together. "Never do that again without telling me first that you'll be trying your... dance-y moves."
"Ah. So that's what it was?" Shuri asks, and you have to blink away from her eyes to be able to answer.
"Just trying out new things," you answer.
"Your 'new thing' made you dislocate your shoulder, clavicle and—Bast, how are you just sitting there?" she turns around sharply to the other Dora in the room. "How is she not knocked out in pain?"
"Drugged," both of them answer at the same time.
Your nod comes a beat too slow, and Shuri registers as she turns back to you.
"Yup." They definitely gave you something on the way in. "I am a-okay."
For the first time ever, you hear it.
Shuri laughs.
The sound freezes you again—it spells all the cells in your body, caught under an immediate trance. You only heard it before a couple of times, under different circumstances.
Under different times.
Times when Shuri was still Princess, and not Panther. Times when she had witty remarks, cheeky smiles, and middle fingers to offer to anyone willing and asking for it.
Bygones; or so you thought.
A quick, military sweep of the room — a surprising feat for your altered mind — shows you're not the only one surprised by the sudden burst of laughter.
Only two seconds of it, but the first one is enough to almost shock you back into sobriety, and the second has enough room for your heart to break. Ayo and Okoye share a look, and the amount of sadness that pours between pokes between your ribs.
Then, the laugh ends, and the moment was unfortunately too short for you to enjoy it.
"A-okay," Shuri mutters, chuckling. "You sounded like Ross for a second."
"The coloziner?" you shriek.
Shuri smiles at you, and damn it—"The one and only," she replies with a smirk. Her expert hand sends all your files flying, and she gestures for someone outside the room's glass walls. "I'm glad you're under medication already, 'cause I'm pretty sure this is about to hurt."
"Doras feel no pain," Okoye sneers.
Both you and Ayo nod in agreement. "No pain."
"Really?" One of Shuri's eyebrows goes up. "So if I do this—," she pokes the tip of her finger right against your clavicle and smiles when you wince. "Ah. I thought you felt no pain?" the sarcasm drips from her just like her damn clothes.
Why does she always look so good? "That was mean," you whisper. No whine comes out of you, because Okoye trained you better than that.
Shuri's smile widens as the doctor walks in, and she stands still in front of you for a moment. "Just a reminder that you're still human." Something else trembles beneath the surface of her words, and it compels you to look into her eyes. "One about to be part of the most well-trained and skilled army in the world, but a human, nonetheless. Please be more careful."
Please. The knot that grows in your throat out of nowhere is hard to swallow. "I will, my Queen."
"I saw you here not two weeks ago," she goes on. You can feel the doctor's hands starting to roam on your arms, and Ayo excuses herself with a quick 'we'll wait outside for you'. "I meant what I said. If you want to look at designs, just drop by."
"And bother you while you work?" you scoff in laughter. "I wouldn't dare to assume my time's that precious."
"Ouch," the thump of Shuri hitting both hands against her chest makes you look up—her hands placed over where her heart is, and her face set in a theatrical look of pain makes you feel so stupid and gone. You wanted her to smile like that all the time, preferably because of something you did or said. "And here I was, thinking my spar companion was at least a friend."
A friend.
You bite down on the cry of pain when the Doctor puts something back into place, and offer Shuri the best smile you can at the moment. "I was here thinking I was just the miserable, unlucky girl who Okoye wanted you to have as a punching bag."
Shuri cackles again. "Right. The prodigal punching bag who's been keeping me on my toes outside the suit, you mean?"
The lessons — twice a week, by the riverside, at dusk — are somewhat of a dream.
"How can I keep you on your toes if I don't end up here every now and then?" you gesture with your head around the lab, and Shuri's mirth is gone from her eyes.
"You're more creative than this," her tone is scolding. "Aneka took it easy on you. I don't want to see you coming back worse because you tried something on Ayo and she severed something that might never be replaced."
You nod at that. "I'll be more careful, your Highness."
Shuri opens and closes her mouth once, then nods at you. Whatever she wanted to say is left aside as she nods towards Vance, then leaves the room with Griot speaking on her shoulder.
You'll see her in two days.
It'll twist your insides as much as it does every time.
"Girl," Dr. Vance snorts, and you groan.
"Shut up."
"Good Bast, Shuri is blind."
Tumblr media
The promise works, if only for a little while.
It's hard not hurting yourself when life does that by itself, so easily, and so often, too. It's hard to stay away from something that's a part of your road, and unfortunately for you and everyone around, bruises and aches were a part of you for as long as you were alive.
For a few weeks, the purples on your bodies and the grunts that come out of you come, for the most part, from your training sessions with her.
Black Panther.
Shuri is as deadly without the suit nowadays as she is with it, but as a woman of science, her training was nowhere as intense as a warrior.
You were training for six years before she took the mantle, and now, graduation is on the horizon.
"Eyes forward," Shuri whispers, right before she attacks.
The glint of purple and black paints your skies too, because of her.
It's so hard to focus when she smiles.
'Do not think I haven't noticed how poor your focus is when she's on-field, child.' Okoye, once reinstated as General, took you back under her personal wing. 'If that goes on, you will never graduate.'
It works, the slap on the face.
Fighting Shuri becomes easier once it's resignified to fighting for her, and the bruises come less often.
There's your graduation.
A whole new line of Dora Milajes—and you're one of the sixteen.
Shuri dances on the stones of the waterfall, and you think happiness is the only thing that looks more fitting than the mantle on her.
"Now I'll never see you around my lab again," Shuri jokes in the middle of the celebration party.
She found you with a drink in hand talking quietly with Nakia in a corner, speaking in hushed tones about trips around the world if you ever managed to take a vacation, and Nakie excused herself as soon as Shuri arrived.
It made you feel suffocated.
She had on traditional fighting clothes, and even the smooth, cold drink was going down in hard gulps. "Don't worry, I'll find a way."
"Yeah, it's called taking my invitation."
"I've been there," you argue with her, trying to fight a smile. "I went to see the new suits. And the improvements to the spear."
Shuri shakes her head. "Okoye's request."
"I went there two weeks ago to pick up the gadgets and stayed for hours. I'm pretty sure I got in the way of your work and made you arrive late for a UN meeting."
Shuri smiles as she shakes her head again. "The pick up was Ayo taking advantage of you. The meeting—," she tilts her neck. "I didn't want to go anyway. You just gave me a good excuse to show up fashionably late."
"I heard you made a scene."
"It's a thing we Wakandas too once outside our nation. You'll find out soon enough," she leans against the counter, and you almost take a step back because your brain alarms go off—
too close, too pretty, she smells so good, oh Bast please send me a light and I'll do all my morning prayers, I swear—
"'m not sure the General's keen on letting any of us new girls go out any time soon."
"I'll ask for my friend to be my escort as a personal favor, how about that?" Shuri wiggles one eyebrow.
Cool, you think. "I think you're above playing favorites," you chuckle.
"Then you don't know me very well," she whispers, smile turning into a grin. "See? That's why I'm bringing you along."
"We'll see about that, your Highness."
Tumblr media
Being hurt is part of the job, but not a part Shuri is fond of, you discover.
Each time you shrug off the shrapnels of savages attacking your nation or the swollen bumps around your body, her face loses every inch of that easiness it had.
Shuri demands you to slow it down, to take it easier, to—"stop jumping head first in front of things! Are you out of your mind? You're not a human shield!"
To which Okoye fights back with, "My Queen, with all due respect, that is exactly our duty. To you, and to Wakanda. We are your defense. She was just doing her job this time and, doing it well, may I add."
"Her spear's not a shield, General. Something that, may I remind you, all of you have in your uniforms. Shields! So she doesn't end up like this!"
It's only when she raises her voice that you notice.
Shuri's chest panting.
"General—," you start, but as always, Okoye's a step ahead.
"Your Highness," her tone is gentle. It's the same tone you've heard her speaking with the kids, and sometimes, you. "I'll be back in an hour to check on her and my other two girls. And then we'll discuss the attack. Is that ok?"
"It is. You may go, General," Shuri nods to her.
And then, you two are alone.
And it hits you. "Panther," you whisper.
Shuri shakes her head, pacing around the room. "I'm thinking, give me a second." You doubt a single thought could be formed after the day you two had, but if one person in the world could have them, it'd be her. "It has the be something I'm missing—a breach, a—a bug. Something."
You see the way she rubs her hands together and try again. "Shuri."
After more than a year of working closely together, it's one of the few times you've used her name, and it works the same as the others:
Everything else stops, and Shuri turns to you.
Her posture relaxes as if someone pulled a pin.
"I'm sorry," you tell her. She's still in her Panther suit, and it's all you can get out. The lab is pitch black dark except for the glimmer of the machines that are turned on, and as she steps closer, you hear the stupid announcement of your vitals monitor alerting of your heartbeat rising, and shit.
Shit, shit, shit.
As blind as she can be, Shuri is not deaf.
"Why are you sorry?" she asks.
The sounds grow louder because she only stops when her legs touch the side of the bed, and you have nowhere to hide your nervousness. "I told you I'd be more careful and..."
"You weren't."
"No," you look away from the sewing pattern of the suit and try to find a thought that doesn't involve the way you can still feel the air humming around her. "And you seem... worried."
"Seem?"
It's like a hiss.
You look back at her, and Shuri runs one of her hands over her face.
She exhales loudly, and when her eyes find yours, your mouth runs dry.
"You jumped," she whispers at you—out loud, like a confession. As if you weren't there, and she somehow can't believe that. "Right in front of me."
You did, and you would again, and she knows that. You nod, unsure of what to answer, if you even could answer. Unsure if you would be able to no matter how much you wished to.
"Your eyes were on that thing, and I know you heard the drop, but..." there was no time for her to reach it. "I had to," you finish, and the little smile that forms on your face seems to do it for her.
Something snaps inside Shuri because her whole face loses its composure, and both of her hands come up to cup your face, alerting to what must be the entire building that you're on the cliff, hanging over and looking down at a heart attack.
"Never. Do that. Again." Her palms are sweaty on your cheeks. When she speaks, Shuri's bottom lip trembles, and all you can think is—
Oh.
I'm blind too.
"I have to," you repeat a little dumbly.
Shuri laughs, right in your face. It sounds like disbelief, and her hands grip you tighter, and you have to bite back a whine at how much you enjoy the force of that hold. "You're going to kill me if you do that again. Did you know that? Griot informed me. Griot said, 'My Queen, I'm obliged to inform that your heart has reached concerning rates', as if I didn't fucking know, as if—as if—," her chest moves up and down faster again, and you do something you never thought you'd have the guts to—
You hold her back.
It's surreal to feel the texture of the suit underneath your hands, but what's even crazier is the notion that she's under it.
"Breathe," you whisper to her.
"I can't—" she exhales shakily, and you plunge forward with your gut.
When her hands cupped your face, you tuned out everything around. The embarrassing heart rate, the machine noises; anything not Shuri didn't matter, and when her breathing comes out in raggedy tries, your lips reach forward before you realize what it is you're doing.
When you do realize it, both of you are caught under it.
It's a spell, you think.
Attraction. Love.
It's white noise and being submerged underwater all the same time—it's the feeling of her soft, delicate lips on yours, and the way you can feel her pulling in a deep breath before she whispers, "Bast..." and leans forward again.
Whatever it is that keeps you tied to her, you embrace it. Magnetism, gravity, electricity—it must be a little bit of each, all thrown into the bowl like the best recipe in the world, and the result is there,
on her lips, and the taste of her kiss.
Bast, indeed.
You'll never let go of the bruises if this is where they land you in.

Tumblr media
Two years. It has been two long years since you walked out of her life. Two silent years since you have seen your ex-fiance. To say those years were easy for you would be a complete lie.
You had moved to the south of Italy and bought a beautiful beach house on the coast where nobody could bother you or disturb your peace. That peace only existed in your mind for a week. For the first month, all you could do was cry. Cry at the water’s shoreline as the sun kissed your forehead in comfort. Cry in the shower as the water provided a gentle pat on the back and cry on your afternoon walks as the wind tried to wipe your tears away. Sleep no longer became your safe place as your mind was riddled with the memories of your soon-to-be-wife cuddled up behind you, her nose brushing against your shoulder and just feeling safe in her presence.
Loving Shuri was the first time you had ever let anyone see the real you and the probability of her nervous self asking you out on your first date leading the two of you to get engaged was not something you expected at all. The two of you had been able to grow so much as individuals but also as a pair. You bared your souls to one another. Shuri breathed life into you and you did the same for her. You two fit together so seamlessly until you didn’t.
You didn’t regret leaving her at all. It allowed you to focus on why you are deserving of the best and truly prioritize certain things in your life. Your skin cleared magnificently, you felt like you were physically in the best shape of your life and you have been able to live your life to your hearts’ desire without any worry.  You didn’t get seriously involved with anyone again but you have your fair share of dates and hookups during your separation. You have already forgiven her for her mistakes in your heart as you know that a number of things could have been clouding her mind at the time. Staying in that environment wouldn’t have done either of you any good. You know that if you were able to find love once, you are most definitely going to find it again. That was until love came knocking on your door one starry night.
You were in the middle of practicing a new pasta recipe as your chef that would usually come over for dinner had gotten sick. It was safe to say that the food you were attempting to make may or may not be safe for human consumption. It was 9:32 p.m., soft jazz played in the background and you had just smoked the cutest pink joint you rolled before deciding to cook. Maybe that’s why your food might end up in the garbage. You swayed your hips to the music and just allow yourself to feel free, arms swinging in the air with a smile stacked onto your face. You hadn’t felt this way for an eternity. The soft jiggle of your doorbell took you out of your elevated haze and brought you back down to earth. You had a strict policy about having guests come over past nine, so your mind is curious as you waltz over to the door, determined to figure out who thinks they can bypass your own rules.
You couldn’t help the startled gasp that left your mouth as you peered through your peephole. It’s her. It’s the Queen of Wakanda. It’s – your mind wouldn’t even allow you to utter her name, as it brought pain to your spirit just thinking about it. You raced back to the kitchen to throw off your apron and shut off the stoves. Why are you in a rush all of a sudden? What is the hurry for? It’s not as if you prayed everyday for Bast to return Shuri to you on a silver platter. That you wished and wished until you had no energy left to see her sculpted face one more time or be able to hold her in your arms again. Okay. Maybe you did. Dreams do come true and yours had found her way back to you.
Opening your front door, you were met with the strong presence of your ex-lover. With a single rose in hand, Shuri let out a shaky breath upon seeing you for the first time you had left. Your beauty still left her starstruck. She had imagined this day so many times, over and over, wanting nothing more but to pour her heart out to you and prove that she is a changed woman.
She realized that too much of her identity was shelved into how many tests she could perform, not how she shows up for people. It is a mistake she made for a very long time and promised herself she wouldn't let that become who she was meant to be, especially after finding the book T’Challa had left for the two of you.
Her mind had convinced her that you were in danger and that you were in constant need of protection but what could she have done if you told her to leave you alone. Shuri couldn’t sleep at night either, barely keeping up with eating properly and continually failed her science projects that she was once a prodigy at. Like you, time has allowed her to reevaluate her life. Being that you were her life, Shuri realized that no matter how much she wanted you back, getting you would not solve the issue at hand. She had to heal herself. This was the first time she was truly alone in that sense so navigating through her own mind, thoughts and actions felt like a never ending punishment at first but allowed her to blossom in the most beautiful ways.
She spent a lot of her time journaling, speaking with her ancestors as well as trying not to let her past mistakes define her. As she wished to shed the previous version of herself, the hardest part was convincing her mind that she too is worthy and deserving of a love that lasts a century. She just couldn't shake the feeling that the love she wished to experience again was you. That is why she stood before you now.
“Hello,” she said, her voice a slightly deeper than before but still commanding the attention of anyone she spoke to. Her hair was thicker, curlier but she still had that gorgeous undercut on the sides. She wore a sporty gray two piece, with her signature kimoyo earrings and what is that? A nose piercing? Okay.
“I have so many things I would like to say to you if you give me the chance. I know showing up here without letting you know may be strange but I couldn't take it any longer.”
You felt your heart race. It hasn’t done that in so long. You are mature enough to hear her out and listen to her words but you do wonder, knowing that time can truly change a person, if you are going to be met by the same Shuri. Just based on her present energy and stance, you can tell that this is a woman with intention standing before you.
Sitting in a comfortable silence outside on your porch, the ocean’s breeze greeted the two of you. Memories of the lengthy time you had spent together in Haiti on similar nights like this, under completely different circumstances. The rose she offered you laid between the grasp of your fingers, unsure of what to do next. She had just admitted that she hasn’t stopped thinking about you in the two years since you’ve been gone.
“I realized that even if I get the chance to be in your space again, I was going to have to fix the issue. I was going to have to fix myself,” her stark eyes never leaving yours, hand holding onto your free one and mind determined for you to see that she has transformed. She began to explain how she had truthfully done the inner work to address all the problems that she had within herself and reflected as well as seeking counsel from those closest to her. She just wanted you to hear her out, seeing as though the last time you had seen each other, Shuri didn’t have any words to share with you. Her heart and thoughts were no longer shielded by the insecurities and misfortunes of the past.
“Allow me to be the woman I was meant to be for you. Please. Allow me to love you the way you deserve and —,”
Her voice faded away as your eyes closed shut. Are you really willing to let her just walk back into your life when you are at your most peaceful? You aren’t opposed to loving again and you have healed your wounds. Your mind was in a healthy place as well as your physical and mental and love was the last thing you wanted to check off of your list. Shuri used to be your happy place and sanctuary. The least you could do is give her another chance.
You set your rose down on the coffee table to your right and turned to Shuri. Her eyes pleaded for you and spirit yearned for yours. Pulling her close to you, your lips ghosted around each other, feeling the light weight of her breath on you before carefully connecting your mouths. Scared and delicate. That’s how you would describe the kiss the two of you shared until you found ourselves back in the familiar pattern the two of you once shared.
Your chest warmed up and your heart felt like it might burst. She’s back. She’s back and she’s better. This is all you ever wanted. As much as you missed your relationship, you knew it was far more important for the two of you to heal no matter how much time had passed and now, the two of you can reclaim that love and start over. One step at a time.
You two knew that your souls just needed a little bit of time to recognize one another once more. There is no need to rush.

Just for a Few Minutes
Shuri x POC reader
Summary: In the midst of a mission, you and Shuri get stranded in space. Months later of failing to get back home, you catch her crying and try to make her feel better.
or
Reader is a touch-starved pathetic loser who Shuri takes an interest in.
Contains: Angst, hurt/comfort, shy reader, smut (18+), and a sprinkle of fluff.
Word count: 2750
Tumblr media
Shuri’s been stuck at the wheel, stressing on getting back home. She hates this ship, if you can even call it that. It’s old and rusty. You’re surprised the ship hasn’t blown up yet.
You got used to the grumbling and shouting. It’s the same pattern over and over again, and it always ends with a dent in the metal wall or absolute silence: Shuri cheers, believing she’s tracked Earth’s location, then shouts profanities that you don’t understand when the janky ship randomly reroutes the coordinates.
All day Shuri sits in the cockpit, determined she’ll beat the ship at its ridiculous game, and you watch with crossed fingers each time. You often try to lend a hand, although she’s not very fun to work with when she’s angry.
And when she’s not angry, she cries. But only when she thinks you’re asleep. You’ll lay on your bed, back facing the rest of the ship, and glue your eyes on the wall, unable to sleep while she stifles her sobs either in the bathroom or her bed.
Unlike Shuri, you didn’t have anyone to lose. Your teammates would tease you—call you a lone wolf. Unfortunately, they’re not wrong.
Today, you hear the same quiet sniffling.
You lay there, hesitant to move so she doesn’t know you’re listening. Or trying not to listen. But it’s hard not to when you’re a light sleeper.
The benefit of being a light sleeper? No one can sneak up on you.
The setback? Waking up to the only person you see every day cry almost every night.
However this night—or day, who knows really—is different. She doesn’t lay in the bed across from yours. Instead she sits in the cockpit, elbows on her lap and face buried in her hands.
Shuri’s body jumps when she hears the soft pads of your feet make their way over to her, but she doesn’t look at you. Maybe that’s for the best considering you have no idea what draws you to take the co-pilot’s seat.
You’re unsure what to do. You rarely find yourself in a situation where you have to comfort someone, much less yourself.
Looking straight ahead at the stars and distant galaxies, you speak.
“I don’t miss anyone.” Wow. You’re already terrible at this.
Nonetheless, Shuri’s faintly head lifts, curious to hear where you’re going next.
You gulp, hoping you only say the right words.
“I mean, like, I don’t have anyone to, like, you know, miss. And there’s no one on Earth who’s, you know, missing me right now. Or looking for me for that matter. But I know that there are people searching for you.”
Shuri also looks ahead. “We’re galaxies away,” she states hopelessly.
“Which is probably why they’re taking so long,” you jokingly reply in an attempt to seem sensible.
You turn to Shuri, and the glint of hope that used to live in her eyes has gone, replaced with exhaustion.
“They’ll travel through those galaxies,” you hope to reassure her. “They will.”
You don’t even know if you believe that, though it doesn’t matter if you do or not as long as she believes it.
For a minute, no one makes a sound before Shuri starts to whimper again.
An inaudible “woah” comes out of your mouth when you watch her conceal her face back in her hands. Mentally, you’re unsure how to react, which is ironic because your body somehow does: your bottom lifts off the seat and your arms make their way around the princess.
That’s what you do to make people feel better, right?
Her body stiffens and you scold yourself for being so hasty. You attempt to pull away and apologize before she snakes her arms around you, burying her head between your shoulder and neck. You stay there for a while, your knees on the hard floor as she soaks your shirt.
You don’t say anything and she doesn’t need anything to be said. Silence is just fine.
You’re not used to offering affection, not even a simple hug. Its unfamiliarity makes you a little uncomfortable but you stay. She's the one who pulls away eventually.
“Tired,” she says plainly.
You get on your feet and back up while she stands. The space between you and Shuri returns, mostly because of you. For you, really.
You attempt to shake off the odd feeling on your skin and in your chest as Shuri sits on her bed. She doesn’t tuck herself in though. She just looks at you.
You hate to say that the face she’s wearing seems familiar. It’s a face you’ve ignored on Earth. A face that wants something from you, but you don’t know what. Or you pretend you don’t know.
This time it’s different. You can sense what she wants, and like all the times before, you choose to ignore it, muttering a “goodnight” as you hurriedly walk to your bed.
“Wait.”
There’s no thought to it when your body halts. However, the anticipation flusters you.
It takes a second after you point your ear to her. You hear a heavy exhale leave her nose.
“Can you…lie down with me?”
If you heard this on Earth, you’d simply tell her to go to sleep. At the moment you consider not even facing her again, but you regrettably turn your shoulder. And damn. There’s that face again–the inner corners of her eyebrows softly angled upward.
“Just for a few minutes,” she adds.
Her eyes slowly glide away as she recognizes what she just requested. She wonders why she even asked you such a thing. She starts to shake her head, nearly retracting what she said.
“Sure,” you say. This is probably a mistake.
Your answer obviously surprises her. You don’t have that type of relationship to even lay together, let alone make any physical contact that wasn’t a pat on the shoulder.
You take up the little space left after Shuri scooches. She faces the wall and you lay on your back, unable to move freely. Even your leg hangs off the edge.
But you still can’t seem to shake off that feeling.
It feels strange. Sort of awkward. But something about it also feels…nice, you think. You’ve never done this with someone. The thought of it was too foreign to even consider.
The version of you before would have cringed at the possibility of this happening. But this version of you–the one who has spent months stranded in space, building whatever connection you have with Shuri–doesn’t mind her back pressed against your arm. This version of you doesn’t mind how warm she feels next to you despite the spacecraft’s low temperatures.
You stare at the back of her head contemplating whether or not you should throw your arm over her waist. To comfort her, of course.
No, probably not.
Facing the ceiling again, you wait for Shuri to fall asleep until you hear sniffling again. You can’t solve sorrow with one conversation, can you?
“Shuri?” You whisper. She doesn’t respond. You turn over and place your hand on her bicep. “Shuri,” you try again.
You pull at her with no force and she rolls on her back, wiping her cheek.
“Sorry,” she murmurs sheepishly.
“No, no,” you reach for her face. “It’s alright.”
She gives you full access, staring at you when you begin rubbing away as many tears as you can. You hit a point where her face is mostly dried up, but you don’t remove your hand. You both lay on your sides and you just keep cleaning.
Shuri reaches for your cheek, dragging the back of her hand up and down, mimicking your touch. Your eyes flutter shut, welcoming the new sensation.
She whispers your name.
You open your eyes. “What?”
God, that face.
“I’m gonna kiss you.”
Your hand pauses on her cheek. “Okay.”
She grabs your neck, pressing her lips to yours. And it feels…really good. Her lips are soft, but dry. She observes the same for your lips, but none of you actually mind.
Oh man, is this what you’ve deprived yourself of all this time? You can’t get enough of this. You can’t get enough of her, especially when she tilts her head, kissing you deeper. She eagerly pushes you on your back and gets on top of you, hungrily molding herself against you.
A moan escapes the back of your throat when her lips move to your jaw, trailing down. Her lips tingle down your neck, particularly when she rests there to mark your skin.
You enjoy this feeling. The overwhelming state you’ve never allowed yourself to enter before.
Shuri lifts the hem of your shirt, snaking her hand under your pants. Your thighs instinctively open as she cups your pussy and your breath hitches when her thumb begins circling your clit.
Jesus, you’re sensitive. You’ve touched yourself here and there, but it never felt like this.
You choose to look down and your arousal grows just by the disappearance of her hand beneath your clothing. She slides her middle finger between your folds and you dismiss her chuckles when she recognizes how incredibly wet you are. You’re too horny and touch-starved to even worry about it.
She sits up, one hand at your pussy and the other next to your head. She inserts a finger and drags it out, continuing this motion as her thumb messily rubs your bud.
“You like it when I do this?” Oh, she knows you do.
“Yeah,” you mutter after she inserts her ring finger, staring at you writhe below her.
You turn away, squeezing your eyes shut. Your arm sits on your forehead, covering your eyes, but Shuri pulls the arm away from your face.
“Keep looking at me,” she commands softly.
As piercing as her eyes are, you do as she says and she rewards you by pumping faster. Your mouth opens, your breath quickens, and your hand grips her pillow and the other flies to her bicep, seeking to hold something.
She hums, responding to your desperate whines; your wetness coating her fingers. She takes advantage of your parted mouth and consumes your lips, slipping in her tongue.
You can’t tell if it’s her fingers or her tongue that make you cum, but holy shit, who fucking cares at this point? Your body shakes and your hips lift involuntarily. And even better, Shuri continues to thrust in and out of you, gradually slowing her pace as your orgasm sends you into a disorientated state of ecstasy.
You pull away from her lips, catching your breath.
Shuri smirks. “You look pretty when you cum.”
And you’re brought back down to…well, not Earth. With a groan, you cover your face, but only for a second, too keen to see an expression that wasn’t a frown on her face.
“I bet you’d look even better,” you sit up to kiss her. “Can you lay back?”
She obeys, switching positions with you. You hope to appease her even though you don’t fully know what you’re doing.
“Tell me what to do,” you rub her knee. “I wanna make you feel good, but I don’t know where to start.”
An inquisitive look appears on her face, processing what you’ve just told her. She leans up using her elbows to support her.
“Was that your first time?”
You tilt your head side to side. “Sorta, yeah. I mean, there was this one girl a while ago, but she didn’t get…as far as you did.”
You didn’t let her get as far as Shuri did, to be specific.
“Bast,” she gapes at you. “I suppose that makes sense.”
“Please don’t make it awkward.”
She shakes her head. “I…Okay, yeah–no. I won’t.” The gears keep turning in her head to the point where she smiles to herself. “I’m your first?”
“Okay,” you murmur, shifting away from her before Shuri draws you back with your wrist.
“Don’t go,” she giggles. “That’s okay. I’ll guide you.” She pecks your lips. “I’m sorry.” She pecks your lips again. “We’ll go slow.”
You nod nervously.
“What do you wanna do, hm?” She caresses your cheek, seeing how tense you’ve become.
You peer down at her pants, shrugging. “Wanna touch you…however you want me to.”
“However?” She gives you one last kiss below your jaw before laying on her back. “Okay. Help me take this off.”
The heat kicks back in. You start removing her pants until she impatiently kicks the rest off the bed, leading you both to laugh.
“Just start by kissing me first,” Shuri reaches for your arm.
You happily oblige, enveloping her lips with yours, your body between her legs. You breathe her in—promptly addicted, that’s for sure. Your chests press together and you can feel her breasts beneath you, nipples as firm as yours.
Your hand hesitantly slides under her shirt. You stop before you reach her breast. “Is it okay if-”
“It’s okay,” she drags your hand to her breast and you gently squeeze before flicking her nipple. You successfully earn a moan from her. Fuck, you only wanna do things that’ll get a noise out of her.
You kiss her chin, her jaw, dip to her neck, then down to her clavicle, hoping to descend further. Shuri reads your mind, removing her shirt and throwing it aside. You fervently reconnect your mouth to her skin, stopping at her sternum. Her hand shoots to the back of your head when your lips slide to her breast and your tongue circles around her areola, flicking on her nipple before engulfing it. Another moan leaves her, encouraging you to suck. Your free hand plays with her other breast, flicking and tugging before gliding down to her pussy. You find her clitoris beneath her underwear, circling it between your index and middle finger.
Shuri mumbles in Xhosa as you slip off her underwear.
Your mouth releases her breast and you get up. You gaze at her body, licking your lips. You stay there, naively contemplating what you hope to do to her. She notices.
Her half-lidded eyes inspect your expression. “What do you wanna do?”
Your fingers keep playing with her as you think. You look down at them, enthralled by her body’s response to your touch. You land on something. “Wanna eat you out.”
Shuri lets out a breathy laugh. “I’m surprised you know what cunnilingus is,” she jokes.
You chuckle. “Shut up.”
You aim for her stomach, kissing your way down to her pussy. You remove your fingers from her clit, pausing once you’ve positioned your head between her legs. Your eyes lock on hers when you flatten your tongue and lick.
“Yeah,” her hand lands on the side of head, watching you intently. “Just keep doing that.”
And you do. You lick and suck her, allowing the volume of her voice to guide you. You wrap your arms around each of her thighs, getting comfortable the more she coats your mouth and chin.
“Does that feel good?” You muffle against her pussy.
“Yeah,” she grinds on your face. “Feels…feels really good.”
Shuri gasps your name and throws her head back when you sneak a finger inside her cunt, thrusting in and out. She whimpers when you add another digit, curling the pads of your fingers. She curses in her native language, sighing, “right there,” when you hit her spot and you stare, admiring her whine and whimper because of you.
You continue to suck her clit until her body shudders intensely as she approaches her climax. She wonders if you’ve switched off the ship’s gravity because her mind spaces off blissfully.
You want to see that again.
She releases a heavy sigh and lifts herself to look at you while you sit up.
“Did I do okay?” You ask.
She yanks you by your shirt and smashes her lips on yours, tasting herself.
You laugh against her mouth. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
She pulls away, but lingers with her forehead against yours. She drags her fingernails up and down your neck. “Thank you.”
And she means it. You’re both lonely already. She needed the distraction and you’re apparently much more desperate for affection than you thought you were.
Jokingly you furrow your brows anyway.
“Do people normally thank each other after sex?”
She clicks her tongue and flicks your forehead, saying your name in a scolding manner.
“Ow!” You yelp, laughing as you palm the spot she flicked.
Shuri smiles humorously, rubbing your forehead despite the lack of pain.

Literally no one asked for this but lately I can't stop thinking about Bucky being shy around a girl he likes. The idea of such a tall, strong, imposing man turning into a nervous mess who can't even look you in the eye drives me crazy. It's the duality of the toughness of his exterior contrasting against the softness and tenderness of his interior that leaves me screaming, crying and throwing up. So I'm gonna write about it!
Rambling under the cut (wc: 2400 This was supposed to be a drabble… ooops).
Read part 2 here!
I imagine that after everything Bucky went through he has a bit of a hard time reconnecting with people. That cheerful, confident boy who had left for war over 70 years ago was long gone and he wasn't sure he could get him back. But he was still trying hard to get better, to regain at least a little of that spirit that had been taken from him. Steve, Sam and Natasha were a great help, as well as Shuri and all those who had assisted in his deprogramming in Wakanda. His new friends were a great support, the firm foundation on which he could begin to rebuild his life. They always pushed him to experience new things, to step out of his comfort zone.
That's how he met you.
It was an accident really. Sam had proposed the idea of going out to celebrate every time they completed a mission. He said it was because they deserved some fun after all that hard work, but Bucky knew it was all an excuse to force him to go out and have contact with people other than them. He tried to get out of it that time, excusing himself by saying he was too tired to go out, but his friends dragged him with them anyway. At the time he had hated them a little for it, but now he couldn't be more grateful.
The bar Sam wanted to go to was closed and by some chance of fate they ended up celebrating their recent victory at the bar where you worked. It wasn't the fanciest place in town, but it was cozy. It was dimly lit and although the music blared throughout the place, it wasn't unbearably loud. One could chat with friends over drinks without having to shout or feel sweaty people brushing against your body every couple of seconds. Bucky liked it, it was the first bar they went to where he really felt comfortable. And he liked it even more when his eyes met your figure behind the counter. There was something about you that called to him. He couldn't explain it in words, but for some reason he was unable to take his eyes off you.
He immediately captured your attention as well. A man like him attracted everyone's attention every time he entered a room. He was tall, strong and imposing. His long dark brown hair covered part of his face, hiding behind the locks a mysterious, calculating look. While his friends talked and laughed among themselves, he was silent most of the time, watching his surroundings carefully, studying the people around him. He looked dangerous, but for some reason you didn't feel intimidated when you felt his gaze on your figure. You were... intrigued. So you put aside what you were doing —which wasn't much really, it was a slow night— and approached his table to take his order.
You were hoping to hear his voice, to discover something more about him through that little interaction —to hear him joke with his friends, for him to give you a corny compliment like most of the men there, maybe catch his name in the middle of a conversation. You would have settled for anything that would have helped you unveil the mystery behind his eyes, any little comment that would have helped you reveal something of his personality so you could satiate your curious mind. But he never spoke to you. He didn't even look at you as his friend ordered a round of drinks for the group. He kept his head down, his eyes glued to his fingers fiddling with a piece of paper on the table. So that night you went home with that mystery man circling around in your head.
You thought you would never see him again, that his deep blue eyes would remain engraved in your memory, his mysterious and penetrating gaze haunting you in your dreams as your mind became obsessed with discovering more of him. And for a while that was the case. But then one day you saw him again, walking through the door of the bar with his imposing stride. You noticed he looked different, his hair was a little longer and a luscious beard adorned his face, adding to his scruffy and mysterious appearance. When your eyes met you felt your heart beat faster, electricity coursing through your body as you felt his intense gaze admiring your figure. But the moment was short-lived, the strange connection between you breaking when he looked away after a few seconds, turning to look for a table.
You were able to find out his name this time, though it wasn't because he told you, but because you'd heard his friends call him 'Bucky' a couple of times. He still didn't speak to you or look at you, at least when you approached his table. You could feel his intense gaze on you as you served other customers. He followed your every move, admiring the contour of your hips as you walked or the way your lips curved upward when your co-worker made you laugh. Sometimes you'd catch him staring at you, your eyes connecting for a few seconds before he'd look away. It was frustrating, but at the same time it left you wanting more. You longed for his arrival with each passing day, watching the door every night in hopes of seeing him come in.
Although it wasn't long before that strange cat and mouse game you seemed to be playing started to annoy you.
Bucky and his friends became regulars, showing up at the bar once or twice a month. And over time you became friends with the whole group except for one, the only one you were really interested in getting to know. Your relationship improved a bit, at least now he talked to you from time to time, but it was nothing compared to the friendships you had formed with Steve, Nat and Sam. You knew Bucky a little better, but that was less because of your relationship and more because you had the opportunity to observe him interacting with his friends. He seemed to become more open with each new visit to the bar, chatting and laughing more freely with his friends than he had the first few times. You also noticed that he no longer seemed to be so aware of his surroundings, allowing himself to relax and get lost in the moment with his friends.
It was nice to see him getting better, letting loose a little more each day. But for some reason that didn't affect the way he behaved with you. You still felt his gaze on you at every minute, but when you approached his table he barely spoke to you. Sam, Steve and Nat always joked with you and asked you about your day, but he barely laughed along and that was if you were lucky. You didn't understand why it was so hard to get through to him, you treated him with the same attention and kindness as the rest of his friends and yet he could barely look at you. It was frustrating and honestly it was starting to piss you off. Who did he think he was to ignore you like that? Did he think he was better than you somehow? Was he too good to talk to someone like you?
One day you got tired of the doubts, of wondering if you had done something wrong or if Bucky was just a self-absorbed asshole, so you expressed your concerns to Steve. "What's the deal with your friend?" you asked him as you poured the drinks he had gone to the bar to order. "Why does he always look down when I'm around? I mean, he barely speaks to me. Did I do something wrong?"
"No, no, no," Steve was quick to say, resting his hand on yours in a comforting gesture. "He's just... a bit difficult sometimes."
"Difficult as in an arrogant asshole who thinks he's better than everyone or-?" you started to say, but Steve interrupted you before you could finish.
"No, he's a great guy. He's just been through a lot."
"Oh," you mumbled, not knowing what else to say. "Is that why he never talks to me?"
"Yeah, just give him some more time, I'm sure he'll come around."
Steve returned to his table with the drinks, leaving you alone behind the bar, processing his words. Neither of you noticed that Bucky was only a couple of feet away from you as you spoke. Maybe if he was a normal person he wouldn't have been able to hear your conversation, after all he was a bit far away and the music coming out of the speakers was a bit louder than usual. But he was not a normal person and that was his problem.
His enhanced sense of listening because of the serum running through his veins allowed him to hear your conversation with Steve and I'd be lying if I said that listening to you say those things didn't make his heart clench in his chest. He supposed you were right, he hadn't been very nice to you all this time, but that wasn't because he didn't like you. On the contrary, he liked you too much and that scared him. He couldn't explain very well what he felt, but if there was one thing he was sure of, it was that he felt things for you, things he hadn't felt in a long time. It was a strange attraction that called him to you, a force that made it impossible for his eyes to leave you.
He looked forward to the end of missions like no one else, not because he disliked working, but because it meant he could see you. You were his motivation. He longed more than anything to walk through the big doors of the bar and see your smile, he missed it every night he didn't see you. But for some reason he couldn't do anything but duck his head every time you came near him. He didn't understand what was wrong with him and honestly it was driving him a little crazy.
“You like her, Buck,” Steve told him after listening to him explain his situation. His friend had approached him the next morning to talk about you and your concerns. Steve knew there was something between you, a special spark, and he didn't want Bucky to miss his chance because he was afraid to act on what he felt. "You should let her know before it's too late. She kinda thinks you're an asshole."
Bucky knew his friend was right, but how could he? He had nothing to offer you. He was a broken man with a past as dark as the blood stains that covered his hands. He wasn't ready to be in a relationship. Sometimes he thought he never would be. The guy capable of loving and being loved had died the day he was captured in the war so many years ago, he just hadn't realized it yet.
"You have to stop blaming yourself for it," Steve said as he read the doubt in his friend's eyes. "You have to move on. You deserve to have a life, the life that was taken away from you, and I think this is how you can get it back," he added, sliding him a piece of paper with a number and your name scribbled on it in black ink.
Bucky stared at the piece of paper for quite a while, debating whether or not to follow Steve's advice. The more logical part of him, the part that had been to countless therapy sessions, told him that his friend was right. He had been controlled and manipulated by Hydra to do those horrible things. They were the ones who had turned him into a weapon, a killer. He had been trapped in his mind for over 70 years and now that he was finally free it was his turn to decide the course of his life. And he knew Steve —and his therapist— was right, he deserved a fresh start, he deserved to get his life back on track and find happiness.
But guilt... oh guilt paralyzed him. He had spent all this time training his mind to control that voice inside him, but sometimes it still resurfaced. And every time it did it reminded him what a piece of shit he was. He didn't deserve a happy ending, the people he had hurt did and he had taken that away from them. It was an insult to their memory to go on with his life as if his hands weren't covered in blood. And it was naive of him to think that anyone could ever love a murderer like him.
It was a constant struggle in his mind, the two sides of him fighting to win. He liked to believe that most of the time positivity came out on top, but he wasn't so sure about that. He'd had some pretty dark days lately.
Looking at the piece of paper one more time, Bucky decided that he had let fear and guilt paralyze him long enough. Part of getting better and making amends involved facing his fears, overcoming his insecurities and starting over. So he pulled his phone out of his pocket and saved your number, typing a quick message to send before he could get cold feet.
You were enjoying your day off when your phone vibrated on the coffee table. You stretched your arm from the couch to grab it without having to get up, not even bothering to pause the movie you were watching to check the notification. You were sure it was nothing important, but you were pleasantly surprised when you read the message from the unknown number, smiling at the screen like a schoolgirl.
I wanted to tell you that I’m not arrogant, I’m shy. But if you want we can go for a cup of coffee sometime.

You were confused and weirded out. For some estrange reason, everybody was congratulating you for your engagement. Kids were giving you flowers, a few women gave you advise for your first time as husband and wife, other women gave you advise on how to survive the ritual, men gave you pats on your shoulders and even your mother was tearing up when you came back home, sitting you and pacing in front of you as she was explaining how much hurt she had as she found out about your engagement from hearing it while she returned home.
What was happening?
After you tried to explain that you didn’t know what was happening and your mother not wanting to hear about it, plus she send you to your room. You decided to try and find Namor, perhaps he could explain what was happening. He must know.
You manage to escape from your room, and for some miracle you even went unnoticed from the others. You tried first his cave but discovered completely alone, then you tried his throne room but same, alone. You began to get annoyed.
Namora found you there, lying on the floor and with your eyes closed, she swam to you. “Tuláakal ma'alob in reina?” Everything alright, my queen?
“Ma’!” No! You stressed, sitting up and turning to her. “Le yóok'ol kaaba' in felicita yéetel ma' in wojel Ba'axten!” Everything is congratulating me and I don’t know why!
Namora hummed, offering her hand to help you stand up. You took it with a sigh. She didn’t let go of your hand and guide you to where Namor was. He was there, closer to the corals, where you used to poke at pufferfishes, where you gave him the first rock and the first stick, what started off your path together. Namora quickly nodded at you before swimming away.
“You need to explain.” Namor startled at your voice for a second, turning a around you and offering a nervous smile. “I do not know what is happening but everyone is acting weird.”
“In yaakunaj…” He began but you interrupted him.
“Everyone is saying things and you need to explain.” Your arms crossed over your chest. “What is going on?”
“In yaakunaj,” He tried again, taking your hands in his and letting out a tired sigh. “It was not supposed to go like this.”
“What are you talking about?”
He sighed again. “I was supposed to take you here first, I planned everything but I supposed the surprised is ruined.”
Namor quickly let go of your hands and swam to one of the corals, taking something in his hands before returning to you. “Remember the first stone you gave me?”
“Yes, you really hated it.” You frowned.
He couldn’t help but laugh. “I never hated it, I have it displayed in my home.” He grabbed your hand and open your fingers, leaving your palm there, he softly placed a rock in it. You definitely were confused. “It took me weeks to find a similar rock to that one.”
“Why?” You asked, looking at the colors and shine of it.
“That gift that you gave me made me realize that having you by my side is enough.”
You stared at him.
“You were always the one I have been waiting for my whole life.” He laughed, grabbing your hand and kissing it, not letting it fall from his lips. “Would you let me spend the rest of my life by your side?”

I'm proud of her
Shuri Udaku x Dora Milaje reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Shuri sees your scars from combat with Okoye
You hiss at the feeling of the hot water running down your back as it hits the newly found scars you bite your lip trying not to make a sound. "Good Bast fucking hell" you hit the wall as you hold back tears Shuri immediately drops her keys and comes to you "baby what's wrong?" The stinging sensation only continues to pass through your body as the water hits the back of your legs which are also covered in scars. The blood runs down the drain with the water but you can see Shuri's worry plain as day "you didn't have a mission today is this from training?" She gently grabs your arm and you hiss this time from soreness "I'll be fine the Dora Milaje doesn't feel weakness" Shuri shakes her head "well you're not the Dora Milaje right now you're my wife and you're in pain" you let go of the wall for balance and start to wash up careful as you let the soap run down your shoulders and back.
Shuri hates seeing you in pain like this she understands it's part of your life and it's something you've trained for but this was ridiculous to her. You can barely move she grabs her keys and stomps out of the house. She could always call Okoye but this was a conversation that could not be held over the kimoyo beads she quickly arrives to Okoye's shared home with W'Kabi. Okoye answers the door with a smile on her face as she speaks to someone but Shuri is not smiling. "General" she nods "Queen" Shuri lets herself in as to not cause a scene in front of the border tribe going about their daily lives outside the home. "My wife came home barely able to move I understand that what she does requires pain but she can't fucking move Okoye." Okoye is taken back she's aware that her methods are a bit much but she cut you where she knew needed to. You need to be prepared for that pain in battle or on any mission. "I'm not asking you to go soft on her I know she can handle it but I'm letting it be known there is a limit to what I'll take and my wife not being able to move is my damned limit." Okoye nods understanding she wouldn't dare argue but she does speak her voice strong and unwavering "I understand my queen but she's also a Dora Milaje warrior her scars are of her own recklessness it happens. I do not apologize for training my warriors the way I always have but I do apologize for these feelings you are having." Shuri nods and grabs her spear "Okoye I am no way doing this out of hate I'm simply curious to know that if these same things were done to you could you not flinch not hiss at the pain?" Okoye watches Shuri as she turns her around and uses the end of the spear on her back gently slicing through her clothes W'Kabi moves but Okoye stops him "I just want to know if she has to go through this pain does every soldier?" "Yes" Okoye nods as she bites her bottom lip Shuri grabs the edge of spear and slashes at the back of her knee not so gently this time with the same amount of effort she's sure Okoye would have used on you in training. Okoye loses her balance for a moment Shuri gives her back her spear and Okoye nods as Shuri grabs her hands helping her up. "Can you walk on that?" "No send her my apologies" Shuri nods "none of that was done in anger that was done in understanding my wife has two slashes like that on the back of both of her legs and some on her back to match. Have a lovely night General." Shuri leaves the house silently.
Okoye watched Shuri grow up and every day she became prouder. To some the scene before them may have been upsetting but to Okoye that display was full of nothing but strength and love. What Wakanda has always been about the reason she became general the reason she wanted to order underneath the throne. "I'm proud of her" she keeps a stoic facial expression as the door closes.
Shuri returns home to find you still in the bathroom no longer showering but struggling to wrap your scars she immediately helps. "Where did you go?" Shuri hesitates for a moment before mumbling "to see Okoye" you quickly turn around but immediately regret it as you feel a sense of pain running up your neck "you shouldn't have gone she'll think I'm weak" Shuri shakes her head "no she actually told me your scars are of your own recklessness I don't think she thinks you're weak I think she thinks you're strong." Shuri turns you around and looks at the green leaves you have crushed in a bowl it causes her to smile. That's what she used to use to help your scars when you were truly younger she was sixteen making Wakanda's new science and you were sixteen begging to join the Dora Milaje. "You know we have medicine" you nod "I like this better it's natural and it stops the bleeding faster hail wakandan science eh?" She smiles and kisses your forehead as she gently puts some in her hands and presses it firmly to a bloodied slash "you do remember this gets you high right?" You nod "once again praise Wakandan science" she laughs and kisses you "oh if I wasn't in pain right now..." You mumble into the kiss she only smiles "give it five minutes you'll forget about the pain."
A/n: yeah I don't even know where this came from this was supposed to be a totally different fic 😅 I'm always going off script.

Word Count: 6k (gotdamn)
Babyboiboyega’s Marvel Masterlist
Babyboiboyega’s Masterlist of Masterlist
Series Masterlist
Content: fluff, a little bit of angst, mentions of hospitals, the very high potential that the second part of this doesn’t make a lot of sense, as I finished this around 4 AM, running on nothing but a Canada Dry and a family size bag of Cape Cod chips (my faveeee)
Part 2 is heerree! I know I said it was gonna be posted sometime last night...but I have a problem where I’ll start writing, and instead of keeping with the plot I had already planned, my mind is just like “okay but what if we did this??” That’s exactly how this part turned from 2k words to 5.7k. I stayed up until 4 am writing this because I was so excited to finish it and post it.
So y’all better not let this flop, or TRUST...you will be dealt with.
I’m just kidding. I hope y’all enjoy this part!

Recap:
Your eyes scanned the message over and over until it was finally time for you to get ready for bed; but even as you lay in bed a while later, your eyes on their way to shutting for the night, you couldn’t help the small smile that curved your lips.
Shuri: you’re welcome. Same time tomorrow? :)
You: I’d like that, if you’re free
Shuri: for you? I am. See you tomorrow. Goodnight, y/n
You: goodnight, Shuri :)
**********
It took only a few days for you and Shuri to become a set of bonafide friends. It took the same amount of time for something to start developing between you two, something that didn’t exactly scream just friends. It unsurprisingly took less than that for people to start asking you questions.
You hadn’t exactly predicted that it would happen, but you didn’t put it past your fellow classmates to ask questions; the way some of them gazed at the two of you when walking across campus told you enough about their curiosity. The attention wasn’t exactly enjoyable, but you felt as if you couldn’t complain compared to what Shuri probably went through on campus.
The questions you were approached with ranged from humorous to downright nosy- so nosy you couldn’t even answer them. Some questions were healthy reminders that you weren’t the only one potentially attracted to the princess, and ironically, those were the hardest ones to answer.
Almost every time you met with her, you had new questions to spout her way on behalf of your classmates. Only the semi-normal and funny ones were discussed, though. If the question was even the slightest bit out of pocket, you didn’t even bother mentioning it to her, not wanting to even risk making her uncomfortable; not if you could help it.
However…you had to admit that even you were curious about her answers to a few questions…especially one that you were asked mere minutes before leaving your last class and meeting her in one of the study rooms.
“Hey, there she is!”
You heard her voice before you saw her, her accent making it easy to recognize who it belonged to.
Shuri had a habit of making you smile as soon as you saw her, no matter what type of mood you were in, and tonight wasn’t any different. The smile that appeared on your face echoed on Shuri’s as she approached you, lifting her arms to embrace you in a hug. She didn’t exactly tower over you, but she still had to bend a little at the waist to hug you, her arms wrapping around your back while yours did the same.
“Hey, girl. How were your classes?” You had somehow learned how to keep the nerves out of your voice when you spoke to her, but it was also partly due to Shuri just making you feel comfortable enough to forget about those nerves.
You were never the one to pull away first, simply because you could stay in her arms for as long as possible if you had the chance, but as you waited for her to pull away, she did something different.
At your question, she let out a soft groan of annoyance, resting her forehead against your shoulder. Her shoulders also dropped, her hands on your back fisting for just a second before relaxing. If you weren’t so worried about her reaction, you would have surely been worried about keeping your limbs from shaking against hers.
“Ah, hell. What happened? You wanna talk about it?”
She let out a breath before finally pulling back, much to your dismay. There was still a smile on her face, yet it had dimmed in contrast to the one she had just sported a minute ago. She shook her head, gently turning you in the direction of the study room. When she spoke, the regular, but subtle, playfulness was back in her voice.
“Not right now. Maybe later. Besides,” she stopped to open the door to the room, letting you walk in first before following and closing it behind her. When she turned to face you, there was a slight mischievous look in her eye.
“I want to know about this Serena girl who was oh-so-interested in us.”
Her usage of the word ‘us’ made your breath hitch, but you quickly covered it with a short laugh. You could only shake your head at first, remembering the conversation you had been subjected to earlier and how you had immediately texted Shuri about it.
“Nah, I’d say she was more interested in you, Shuri. You should’ve heard the questions she was asking me.”
Instead of getting her own computer and supplies out, she pulled out the chair next to you, sitting down and turning to face you. Her eyes were narrowed as she waited for you to continue, which you did. However, instead of looking at her, you worked on pulling out your own supplies in an effort to hide just how annoyed you still were at the conversation. Your annoyance was partly due to the kind of questions you had been asked and partly due to the insinuation behind them.
“The sparknotes version? She basically asked me to put her on with you. I asked her ‘how do you even know if she likes women?’. You know what she asked me?”
“What’d she ask?”
“She asked, and I quote, ‘well can you find out? I’m not the only woman here who wants the answer.’ The hell you mean ‘can I find out’? You really live in a lot of women’s heads rent-free, Shuri.”
A quick glance over at her showed that instead of looking anything close to annoyed, she looked amused. It wasn’t lost on you how she indulged in your storytelling, which only made it easier to fall for her. But the way she gazed at you in silence, undoubtedly as you recounted the conversation, told you that she was more amused at your reaction than at the story itself. It was all but proven as she let out a quiet snicker, making your eyebrows raise.
“You think that’s funny?”
Your words may have sounded genuinely annoyed to anyone else, but Shuri could see the small smile that threatened to curve your lips. It only made her find the situation funnier. She attempted to hide her smile, shaking her head.
“What? No, of course not.”
The look on your face showed exactly how much you didn’t believe her words. The shit-eating grin on her face told you enough. Silence settled between the two of you as you looked at each other, daring the other to break first. It only lasted for a few seconds before you were both letting out laughs.
“It was lowkey funny. I had to try so hard not to laugh. But, yeah, that was today’s out of pocket question.”
You didn’t even think about sharing with her the moment another girl asked if the two of you were ‘talking’. Having to explain the meaning behind two people ‘talking’ and how someone had applied it to you two, and then having to see Shuri’s reaction to it was nerve-wracking enough that you had no problem pushing it to the back of your mind.
“Not the weirdest one I’ve received, and certainly not the last time I’ll receive it. It isn’t even the first time I’ve been asked something along those lines.”
This time, your eyes narrowed slightly as you looked over at her. You propped your head on your hand, tilting it slightly as you motioned for Shuri to continue.
“Hold on…are you telling me people have been hitting on you? When has this happened?”
You prayed that the slight jealousy you felt wasn’t reflected in your question, because in all honesty…you didn’t know if you had that right, yet. Yes, you two had grown close over the span of a few days, and there had even been some slight, shameless flirting from the both of you…but until either of you acknowledged that there was something there, the line was blurred.
Apparently, you didn’t try hard enough to hide that jealousy if Shuri’s knowing smirk was anything to go by. She seemed to realize that your attention was solely on her as you waited for her answer, and she almost seemed to revel in it, taking her time to actually answer. You waited, eyes focused on the side of her face as she turned to finally take her own supplies out.
“Not a lot of people. Just the very brave ones.”
Your eyebrows raised, yet you kept silent. It took a few seconds of that silence for Shuri to realize that you were still staring at her expectantly. Her own eyebrow raised in question as she glanced at you.
“What?”
“What do you mean ‘what’? And? What did you say to them?”
Shuri turned to face you fully, her knee knocking against yours. There was still a questioning look on her face, but that damned smirk hadn’t gone anywhere. Instead of replying right away, she leaned back in her seat, letting her legs stretch out until they were placed on both sides of one of yours. She crossed her arms over her chest.
She had to know. She had to know the effect she had on you, and she constantly loved to see just how far she could push it. How close could she get before she had you glancing away nervously, slipping on your words? What could she say that would leave you speechless while simultaneously wanting to tell her all of the thoughts that ran through your mind at the mere thought of her?
How long would you two toe the blurred line between you two? How far would you two have to go in order to erase that line completely?
“Well, of course, I said that I wasn’t interested.” Her voice brought you out of the thoughts that were quickly bordering on spiraling, and instead heightened your curiosity.
“And that’s it?”
“That’s it.”
The unanswered questions were right there, on the tip of your tongue, yet you held them back. Grilling her about her answer felt a little too close to becoming…relational, and the last thing you wanted, or needed, was her to realize that you were asking the questions for yourself. Asking questions that would ease your mind when it came to thinking of Shuri getting with someone else.
You put on your best nonchalant expression, nodding your head in response.
“Hmm. I was kind of expecting at least one person to catch your eye.”
What are you doing? Are you dumb? Perhaps stupid? Now your feelings are about to be hurt.
Her smirk widened into a full blown smile, teeth showing and all. She shook her head, casually pulling her laptop closer to her and opening it. Instead of answering, she simply shrugged, letting out a soft “mmm” sound before turning her attention to her screen.
Without thinking, you reached out, lightly flicking her knee before turning to your own laptop. The laugh she let out was easy to listen to, almost calming, despite your mind still being preoccupied with analyzing her answer.
Even as you both started working on your respective assignments, you were constantly interrupted by your own thoughts, no matter how hard you tried to keep them at bay.
Shuri was now living in your mind rent-free, and you couldn’t seem to find an ounce of regret about it.
**********
You were quick to realize that any time you hung out together, time seemed to speed up, always making your time together too short. However, whatever ruling force in the universe had decided to remedy that, if only for just one night.
Right as you prepared to bid each other goodnight, your phone rang. The screen flashed your roommate’s name and after giving Shuri an apologetic smile, one she waved off, you pressed accept.
“Hey, ‘Mani. What’s going on?”
There was a moment of silence, at least in the foreground of the call. In the back, you could hear the distant sound of…sirens?
That wasn’t what made you feel uneasy, though. No, it was actually the sound of someone who wasn’t your roommate, but rather your ‘neighbor’, answering you paired with the sounds of sirens.
“Y/N, it’s Monica. Something’s happened at the dorm.”
Your eyebrows furrowed and your body froze, going tense.
“What do you mean something happened? Something like what- Where’s Imani?”
Monica didn’t respond immediately which only made you grow more uneasy and irate. It undoubtedly showed on your face and in your voice, as the next thing you knew, you were looking at Shuri face to face. She had slid into your line of vision with an expression of worry on her face. Between all of the sounds on the other end of the phone and your racing thoughts, the sight of her standing in front of you, obviously worried, helped ground you a little.
“They’re taking her to the hospital-”
“The hospital?”
“-There was a monoxide leak in the building and she said she wasn’t feeling well when we were evacuated. They said she’ll most likely be fine, but they just want to monitor her for the night. She also told me to grab your bag from near the door before leaving the building, so I have that with me.”
A heavy sigh left your mouth as you reached up to rub at your face. You covered your eyes as you took a second to think, trying to categorize which questions were most important to ask and which ones could wait.
“O-okay, can you meet me at the hospital? I’m gonna visit ‘Mani, make sure she’s alright. And then I can get my bag from you- thank you, by the way. Oh, shit. I don’t know how the hell I’m going to get there-”
You were cut off by a hand landing on your wrist, gently pulling your hand away from where it still covered your eyes. They snapped open to see that Shuri had stepped closer, her worried look only deepening as she looked at you.
“I’ll take you, it’s okay. We’ll take my car.”
You could’ve hugged her right then and there, and you were damn close to doing it. A fine mist fell over your eyes at the situation and at Shuri’s reassurance, but you only nodded quickly in thanks.
“Okay, I actually do have a ride. I’ll meet you at the hospital, okay? Thank you for calling, sis. Really.”
Shuri’s hand was already in the middle of your back, guiding you in the direction of, presumably, where her car was parked. You let yourself be steered, her hand a firm and reassuring guidance, until you finally arrived at her parked car. If you weren’t so overwhelmed, you would’ve surely gawked at the sight of her car, undoubtedly decked out with all of the most up to date tech. Hell, the car itself probably came from Wakanda, which automatically meant that it was technologically advanced in every way possible.
You were aware enough to notice Shuri open the door for you and wait until you were situated before running around to the drivers side and sliding in. It took less than a few seconds for her to start the car and pull off. As she effortlessly weaved around turns and bends, you could feel her constantly glancing your way, undoubtedly clocking the way you anxiously shook your leg.
“Griot, how far to the the nearest hospital?”
You looked over at her in confusion, a question on your lips; one that was quickly answered when a voice spoke over the car’s internal speakers.
“About 15 minutes, Princess. Roads are mostly clear and you are on the quickest route.”
“They would’ve called her parents by now, right? Isn’t that a part of a protocol? No, they most definitely called her parents, but I’m going to call them just to be safe. But I don’t want to call them and-”
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see her hand reach towards you, and only a second later, you felt it land on your knee. That was all it took for your leg to slow down in its shaking. She continued to glance at you, catching your gaze each time. Her voice was soothing as she said your name, yet it held a firm tone that helped ground you.
“Your friend will be fine, I’m sure of it. The hospital most likely already called her parents. I need you to breathe.”
The more you replayed her words in your mind, the more they made sense, making you nod quickly. They played on a loop as you turned your attention back to the windshield. Her hand on your knee hadn’t moved; if anything, her grip only tightened in just the slightest, flexing on your knee. It provided you with warmth. Safety. Security.
All of these things you continued to feel until Shuri pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. As soon as she put the car in park, you were opening the door and sliding out, Shuri not too far behind you. She effortlessly caught up to you as you quickly walked into the hospital, checking your phone for the text from Monica that told you what room your roommate was in.
Your steps took you to the elevator, Shuri sliding in right behind you. She stood so close to you in the elevator that her arm pressed into yours. Did she know just how much her touch affected you, in more ways than one?
The doors opened not even a minute later and then you two were stepping out, your feet instantly carrying you in the direction of the room. Your steps brought you closer to the room but as soon as you reached for the door handle, a voice was calling out to you from down the hallway.
“Excuse me! I’m afraid you can’t go in there, only family members are allowed in after visiting hours are over.”
You let out a sigh, turning to face the nurse who had approached you. It was obvious that you weren’t the first person she had to say that line to, yet it still irritated you.
“Ma’am, my roommate was admitted after possibly being poisoned by carbon monoxide in our dorm hall, along with countless other students. I just want to make sure that she’s okay.”
The nurse approached you, raising her hands placatingly despite your voice being just as calm, if not calmer, as hers. Your eyebrows furrowed at the gesture.
“Look, I understand that you’re worried about your friend, but I assure you she’s fine. Her parents are in there with her, they’ve been with her this entire time. We found very minimal levels of CO in her system; minimal enough that she’ll be released in the morning.”
You cast a lingering look at the door your roommate was behind before nodding. That was all the nurse needed, for she promptly turned on her heel and walked back to whatever station or assignment she had been on. The nurse’s presence was almost immediately replaced by Monica’s, and in her hand was a familiar bag that belonged to you.
“I’m glad you made it. I’m sorry to rush, but here’s your stuff. I have to get back to my sister’s room. Our parents are coming up from North Carolina, she was uh…she was in the building a little longer. They want to watch her for a few nights.”
She tried to say it as nonchalantly as possible, but you could hear the worry in her voice. It made you all the more grateful that she had still brought you your bag, even when her sister was in more of a critical condition than Imani.
“Damn, I’m sorry, Monica. I hope she recovers quickly. Please let me know if you need anything. And thank you, so much, for getting this.”
The smile she sent you was tight around the corners, obviously forced, but somehow still genuine. She nodded, and only then did she seem to realize who the person behind you was, prompting her eyes to widen slightly.
“Oh, Princess Shuri-”
“Just Shuri.”
Monica once again nodded at the correction from her, glancing at you incredulously.
“Alright. Y’all take care, and I’ll see y’all later. I’ll keep you updated, okay?” Her last question was directed at you and you nodded, sending her another grateful smile. She waved before turning and going back in the direction she came from, leaving you and Shuri in the hallway.
You had to take a second to process everything that had just happened, though it was hard when you could feel a headache coming on. Amidst everything, you had absolutely forgotten that the last thing you’d need to find out would be where you would sleep for the night, or for however long it would take for the building to be checked and secured.
“You okay?”
Your head lifted from where you had placed it in one of your hands, your temple throbbing slightly. Shuri’s eyes were the first thing you saw as you looked up, as she had bent down just the slightest to be able to look you in the eye. Looking at her, it was hard to ignore the fact that the night would have been increasingly difficult if she hadn’t stuck by your side.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m good. Just a small headache.”
Her lips twisted into a sympathetic grimace, and then she was standing back to her full height. She nodded, placing a hand on your shoulder.
“Alright, well let's get you out of here. It’s pretty late.”
Almost as if her words reminded you that it was indeed pretty late in the night, a pang of exhaustion washed over you. You let out a breath, nodding in agreement and once again letting her basically lead you to the elevator you two had gotten off of.
You two walked in silence all the way to the car, and it was only after you arrived did you notice that at some point, she had slipped her hand into yours. Every now and again, she would squeeze your hand, whether it was to comfort you or just remind you that she was there. Regardless, you appreciated it more than she probably knew.
The silence continued as you both slid into the car, yet as soon as the doors closed, you were letting out a soft groan. You rubbed at your face, missing the way Shuri had turned to face you, worry plain on her face.
“What’s wrong?”
“I just realized…I’m gonna have to find a hotel and hope that it isn’t completely booked by other students.”
As you spoke, you quickly realized that finding a hotel would only happen if you asked Shuri to drive you to one. Despite not a single complaint leaving her the entire night, you still felt slightly bad about asking her to drive you somewhere once again, especially considering how late it was.
Unbeknownst to you, while you worked up the courage to ask her for yet another favor, her eyes were flickering back and forth in your direction. Her lips were pursed in thought as one of her hands gripped the steering wheel.
“You know, I don’t have a roommate. I have a single room, perks of being royalty, I guess.” She sounded slightly nervous, yet you didn’t clock it as you were too busy thinking over her words. Your eyes widened slightly at her insinuation, your head shaking quickly.
“Shuri, no. That’d be asking too much of you; you’ve already driven me here and stayed with me, even when you didn’t have to-”
“I didn’t have to, that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to.” Gone was the nervousness in her voice; now it was unwavering as she spoke. She looked determined as she turned more in your direction.
You were too tired to hide your shaky inhale at her words; at the prospect of Shuri genuinely wanting to stay with you and comfort you. And now at the idea of her offering her own room to you for the night.
“We haven’t known each other for too long, but I can already tell what's going through your mind, and I can assure you that you are not inconveniencing me- at all. I am offering my place for you to stay tonight, or however long it takes until you’re able to go back to your own dorm.”
Silence descended between you two for a few seconds as you contemplated her words, eyebrows furrowed. There was no indication that she wasn’t genuine in her words, nor did you expect there to be one. But seeing the determined, reassuring expression on her face was just enough for you to cave in.
“Alright, but only if you’re sure. I don’t want to impose or anything.”
God, you wished you could’ve snapped a picture of the smile that broke across her face at your words; it was wide enough for you to see her dimples. The mere sight of it made your own appear.
“I promise, you aren’t imposing. You can’t impose on someone who enjoys your company.”
**********
You must have been more tired than you thought, because one minute you were looking out the window as Shuri drove, and the next she was crouched down inside of the passenger door, gently shaking you awake. She called your name softly, shaking your shoulder.
“Sorry to wake you, but we’re here.” Once you remembered where ‘here’ was, you jolted awake, sitting up quickly.
“Oh, my goodness, I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you. My bad.”
A soft laugh left her mouth and she stepped back, grabbing your bag before you could get it yourself. She hoisted it on her shoulder which only left you with the task of grabbing your bookbag and stepping out of the car. You sent her a smile as you followed her into the dorm hall, yet upon entering it, you couldn’t help but be slightly impressed. Everyone knew that this specific dorm hall was one of the nicer ones on the entire campus, and you weren’t surprised that Shuri had been placed in it. However, you still were a little surprised that you were now about to spend a night in it, with Shuri, nonetheless.
“I’m on the top floor.”
“Do they have, like…suites on the top floor?”
Her laugh echoed in the mostly empty lobby, save for the front desk attendant who simply nodded as you two walked past. She shook her head as she pressed the elevator button, the doors automatically opening. Even as you two stepped in and pressed the appropriate floor, there was still an amused smile on her face.
“No, there aren’t suites on the top floor. It’s just…for easier access.”
The doors opened and she stepped off first. You trailed after her in confusion, lowering your voice with the hopes of not waking anyone on the floor.
“What do you mean by ‘easier access’? Easier access to what, exactly?”
You two approached the door at the end of the hall and she took her key out of her pocket. She glanced at you and shrugged lightly before turning and unlocking her door.
“The roof.”
She answered with such finality, as if you wouldn’t have follow up questions. Every one of those questioned died on your lips as she swung the door open, letting you walk in ahead of her.
If anyone would have told you that you’d end up in Princess Shuri of Wakanda’s dorm room, readying yourself to spend the night there, you would have promptly replied with a “nah, you’re trippin”. But here you were, stepping further into her room, looking at all of the memorabilia on her walls.
It was a spacious room, and she had filled the empty spaces with trinkets and posters, and other keepsakes. It was all an amalgamation of her own culture and the african-american culture she had grown to love during her time in the states. It was possibly the coolest room you had ever seen.
“I have a connected bathroom that you’re more than welcome to use if you want to take a shower or anything. There are towels and washcloths already in there.”
You nodded in response, already looking forward to taking a shower after the long day you had; and that’s exactly what you did.
Usually, you’d take as long as you wanted in the showers in your own dorm, but for some reason, you didn’t want to take up such time.
Who the hell were you kidding? You knew exactly why you didn’t want to take as long as usual in the shower, and it all had to do with the beautiful, cool as hell woman whose dorm you were in. You truly didn’t know when this would happen again, so maybe you just wanted to experience it in its entirety. Despite these wishes, your body protested against staying up for much longer as you stepped out of the bathroom, leaving a steamy room behind you.
It even protested as you set your things in a corner of her room, turning to realize that there was only one bed in the room. Shuri, presumably seeing your reaction and the way you looked at her bed, stood up. She motioned slightly to the bed.
“Oh, you can have the bed. I have enough covers to make a pretty comfortable pallet on the floor.”
Pushing a loose part of your bonnet off of your forehead, you met her in the middle of the room. She seemed almost a little surprised as you approached her, but you only looked up at her while occasionally glancing at the bed in question.
“Hell no! What? You’re not sleeping on the floor, Shuri. Not in your own room. I’ll sleep on the floor-”
“If you think you’re sleeping on the floor when you’re my guest, then you’re delusional, sweetheart.” She had the nerve to step closer, prompting the need to tilt your head a little further back. Her smirk spoke words you were almost scared to think, too afraid that you’d be reading too much into it. But the way she leaned over you, both of your individual spaces becoming one, had your face heating up. It also had you thinking nonsense- some of it slipping out before you could stop it.
“Then we’ll both sleep on the bed. Or I sleep on the floor.”
Her eyes narrowed at you for a second and maybe, just maybe, you were trippin’...but you could have sworn you saw your eyes flicker to the lower half of your face. It was in between one blink and the next, and yours were pretty slow from exhaustion, so you didn’t know what to think.
“It’s a deal. We’ll share the bed.” She emphasized her words by raising a hand into the small space between you two, offering it to you. With an eye roll, not an unkind one, you took her hand and shook it once. After letting go, she stepped back, motioning to the bed.
“Go ahead and pick your side. I’m going to hop in the shower.”
You didn’t make a move towards the bed until she had disappeared into the bathroom, closing the door behind her, and even then, you hesitantly walked towards it. It looked so damn comfortable, and you were so damn tired…
It didn’t take much self-convincing to grab your charger and locate the nearest outlet before crawling into…into Shuri’s bed. You turned on your side, graciously taking one of her pillows and tucking it under your head before pulling up your text messages.
It took a few seconds to send a text to Imani, one that simply said how much you were thinking of her and how you hoped she would feel better soon. You placed your phone on the table beside the bed before letting yourself get comfortable.
You wanted so badly to wait for Shuri to exit the bathroom. Maybe you two could stay up, talking, laughing. Or maybe she would just want to go to sleep, something your body was screaming at you to do.
In the end, your body won. The subtle smell of something that was undeniably Shuri paired with the soothing sound of the shower was enough for you to knock out. Well, for the most part. You were still awake enough to hear the bathroom door open and Shuri step out.
You heard her footsteps pause as she realized that you were close to falling asleep, and upon wrenching one eye open, you could see her sneaking around her own room in an effort to not wake you up.
“I’m not sleep yet.” You wondered if your voice sounded as tired as you thought it did. Shuri didn’t stop moving around. In fact, she merely glanced at you while grabbing her own bonnet, carefully pulling it over her curls before settling into the spot beside you.
She reached over to the lamp, turning it off, and then she was laying on her side and facing you. You sent her a tired smile, your eyes slipping closed once more. When you spoke, your voice was basically a whisper.
“Thanks again…for letting me stay.”
“No need to thank me. I wanted to help.”
Your head nodded where it rested on the pillow. The sound of soft shuffling hit your ears, yet your eyes wouldn’t open again. Next time Shuri spoke, it seemed as if her voice was louder. No…closer.
“Y/N.”
“Hmm?”
“What soap do you use?”
There was a pause as you willed your mind to remember the scent you had been using for the last few months- one that quickly became your favorite.
“Um…I think it's called…cherry almond twirl? No, swirl. ‘S a black owned company. Hunny Bunny. Yeah.”
You felt a puff of air on your face, but were too out of it to recognize that she was laughing at your groggy voice. The gentle pressure of something on your hand that rested between you two broke through the exhaustion that clouded your mind, but it only seemed to relax you more.
The tendrils of sleep were slowly curling around your consciousness, dragging it down until you were almost completely unconscious.
“Hm. I like it.”
“Me too.”
Silence descended over the room only to be broken not even a minute later by a gasp coming from your mouth followed by your eyes snapping open. Shuri’s face was closer than you had expected it to be, but you didn’t bother moving away. You didn’t want to move away.
“Y/N? What’s wrong?”
You lifted your head off of the pillow slightly, squinting to find her eyes in the darkness of the room.
“You never told me about what happened today. You didn’t have a good day, and when I asked if you wanted to talk about it, you said later. It’s later.”
Shuri couldn’t keep quiet as she laughed, shaking her head where it rested on her pillow. That gentle pressure you had felt on your hand returned, and you were quick to realize that it was Shuri’s hand resting atop yours. Her thumb rubbed across your knuckles, a soothing motion that had your eyes fluttering.
“It can wait until tomorrow. You know you’re ready to go to sleep.”
The yawn that you turned and let out into the pillow answered her assumption perfectly. Your eyes had closed when you yawned, and they didn’t open again.
“Okay. We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
The smile on Shuri’s face radiated fondness and a softness that no one else on campus had seen as she watched your breaths even out. Even as she was sure that you were asleep, she continued to rub your hand, the motion that had put you to sleep relaxing her more and more.
You weren’t awake to hear her words, but she spoke them nonetheless into the darkened room.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
