Life update 2024

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I last wrote anything of substance here. How time flies! Happy new year, happy year of the dragon! I hope this one is kind and auspicious for you all.

I'll admit to falling off the art train terribly for most of 2023. I barely drew; a lot of things I posted were older pieces for projects I couldn't share at the time. I think I speak for most of us when I say it's not been a great time for art collectively; growing frustrations with social media and despair at the state of current global affairs leaves little room for creative inspiration. I know many artist friends of mine are in the same boat. There's little one can do except plod on and hope for better times ahead, I guess? I'll do my best regardless!

Having said that, I did have a major touch-grass-normie arc offline, and as wild as it was, I'm glad I invested time and energy into that area of my life. After the lockdown years of terminal-onlineness, it felt great to do things that were not related to fandom at all, to have new experiences, to make new friends, reconnect with old ones, see new things. It was funny and terrifying all at once. I truly felt like a shonen and shojo protagonist (we will not go into details of the love triangle situation, IYKYK!). There were ups and downs, sadness and laughter, but that's part of life. I'm grateful for all that's happened and am a better, wiser, more mature person because of it. This past year taught me it's not about categorizing life's happenings into a basic good/bad dichotomy, but more learning from each experience and acknowledging we are wiser and grateful for having weathered what's thrown our way. Character development!

The universe has a way of working things out... so at the end of 2023, I had the opportunity to travel for 3 months. After hopping around the East Coast, Milan, various bits of Japan and a beach break in sunny Egypt, I've returned home with a renewed vigor for living my best life again. It was a joy to hang out with various artist friends in person and meet some of you at ANYC. I'll cherish every second of my travels and hope we can meet again soon!

I did fall off the nerd bandwagon for a while, so I gotta get back into the various anime on air! I've been watching Magi in my own time... such a guilty pleasure, but so many things await, including catching up on JJK S2, BSD, and everything else. Just goes to show my deep love for adventure, friendship-fuelled stories keeps me going. No promises on what this year holds art wise, but I'll continue trying hard and sharing what I can, as well as the usual self-indulgent group projects.

Ok, none of you know what's going on. None of you understand why so many women and young streamers are stepping forward right now. None of you understand why this has to be public.

Multiple large streamers have used their fame, influence, and money to manipulate and abuse those they see as below them. So long as they continue to have fame, influence, and money, this cycle will not end.

This is bigger than just individual cases of sexual assault or other abuse. This is a break down of a much larger problem within the entertainment industry.

These women are telling stories about very powerful men in this space. They are sharing stories of abuse and manipulation. This is very scary for them—it could ruin their careers or lives.

Stop saying "they should have handled this privately." This isn't a private matter. So long as these men have power, they will hurt more women. They aren't sorry. They won't play fair.

By trying to stay silent and bury these accusations, you are ensuring these women never know peace. You are ensuring that more women get hurt.

One day your boss will assault you, and all the men in your life will blame you for waiting as long as you did to speak about it. They will find any reason to blame you. They don't want to get rid of your boss. They hope that one day, they can assault a woman just like you.

This is fucking serious. This is real life. This isn't just some fucking fandom drama that we can bury and move on from. These are real life issues that require real meaningful discussion.

Stop trying to discredit these women just because your streamer is in trouble. You are part of the fucking problem.

2022 Reflections

Hi everyone! Given the recent Twitter debacle, I’m glad I quietly keep my Tumblr active even if I don’t speak much. I wanted to thank you all for the support and kindness in another tough year - whether it’s sharing/buying my art or just putting up with my incessant fandom hopping and random posts (World Cup blogging in 2022, man…).

This account turned 10 this year which is terrifying to think about; I’ve gone through many a phase and fandom and whilst I try to clear out old art I’m embarrassed by, I know some of you remember it and if anything it makes me happy I could create work that stays in people’s minds so vividly! Even if I cringe now at XYZ, I’ll always be grateful for something that spurred me to draw. Inspiration can be hard to come by in these times, as we all know. I also have that Atsumu x Hinata story from 2020 in a word doc… I swear I’ll finish my first proper fic and share it one day!

Life has kept me busy, and my late 20s just get crazier, but I’ll find time to continue drawing and making self-indulgent book projects in 2023. Hopefully a few more cons too… I say I’ll retire every year and then never do 😩. I started One Piece and Bungo Stray Dogs among other things recently so god knows what kind of shit I’ll be sharing in the near future (really enjoying both, plus the multitude of other series I’m keeping up with!) and I also want to dedicate more time to original art and OCs. Please hold me accountable for that, I’m terribly shy at sharing my characters and stories! 😣

That aside, I hope life is treating you all kindly and please feel free to yell in my inbox about whatever series or thing I might also be into! Thank you again for your continued support, whether you’ve been following for a decade or a week. Till next time!
