SR4 gives off the vibes of a fantasy, the kind the boss would come up with as a coping mechanism. After loosing Gat in such an empty fight, it's so much nicer to believe that he was just so cool and amazing that an alien dictator had to steal him away from the world.

Because he's Gat right? He's been shot, broken, and impaled. He's dodged hurtling cars and taken on whole police battalions on his own. He's Johnny Gat, of course he survived. Of course when the boss reunites with him it's right after he broke himself out and slaughtered a bunch of heavily armed and stronger aliens while unarmed and buck-naked. Of course as the boss comes in the room he's just putting his glasses back on like it was nothing.

Of course he's virtually unharmed, still physically fit and with only a hint of trauma.

Because he's Johnny Gat, and he wasn't supposed to die.
