i sobbed both times watching eeaao in theaters and i am so so so happy that of all people, it was ke huy quan who received recognition for his hard work tonight but lol the jaded commies n film bros may be onto smthing when they say they arent impressed that this movie’s resolution to those struggling against “a lifetime of fractured moments, contradictions and confusion" is...... an uncomplicated and in earnest, “just be nice!” moralism.

#qq #like cmon. it's a little corny and unearned. #it's also my secret conspiracy theory for why it has mostly been untouched by the y*le asian americanists lol #the philosophical announcements of eeaao is the least interesting yet most overdetermined aspect of the film #it's giving judith butler and her weird meandering insistence on nonviolence as politics. #my other gripe is the 'adhd as superpower/filmmaking/method/way of seeing etc etc' gets so gimmicky at the end. #more interesting is the most attendant to the family drama unfolding thru multiple space-time continumms in just the irs office & laundroma #in just those two places! and yet millions of kinship possibilities across lifetimes. that's what makes it a diaspora film 2 me <3 #i know sianne ngai would have loved to analyze this movie lmfao
