Part 4 of timinette siblings with Kon and Bart coming over and bonding?
Maybe they were on an off-world mission of something and they video-called him
A second Anonymous person asked: If you make a part 4 (you do not have to) for the sibling Tim and Marinette, I think its time we see some protective big brother Tim moments don't you think? Stepping in when he spots a guy crowding his sister to suing Lila and Alya when he discovers the bullying, and the blog. Helping Mama Sabine bring evidence to the school board over the mistreatment of Mari, maybe his reaction to hearing Damien calling Mari a 'harlot' or 'tramp' (Tim totally goes to Luka for 'how to be best big bro' advice)
So I’ve decided to put them together. Enjoy!
Siblings Don’t Stand Back and Watch, They Always Get Involved
First <> Previous
Tim absolutely ADORED his sister.  She had done so much for him and he could never thank her and her their parents enough.  Tim had gone from hating who he was and feeling like a tool to be used and tossed away to knowing that he was loved and needed not for his intellect and what he could give, he was needed because he existed and they enjoyed spending time with him.  They were all so supportive of him and his choices, and he almost cried when they said it was okay if he didn’t want to talk some days and just silently stayed with him. No interrogation, no forceful tactics, not even a hint of manipulation, they just loved and cared for him.
He had explained all of this to Cass during a lunch they had together while Marinette was at school.  She had smiled brightly at him and said,
“Happy for you Little Brother.  They good for you.”
Her tone was gentle and he could hear and feel the joy and love that she felt for him.  Once he was finished retelling everything that had happened since they had seen each other in person he asked her about her time in Hong Kong and about all of the different things she had done and learned there.  He loved the way her eyes lit up as she signed out all of her experiences.  The way she moved her hands with such excitement and the swiftness showed just how much she loved the new city she called home.
After they finished their lunch Cass asked if they could surprise Marinette at school.  Now that Tim thought about it, he’s never actually been to Marinette’s school before, and it had been months.  He quickly nodded and they headed to Collège Françoise Dupont to surprise their little sister at her school.  Once they got close enough to the school they could hear a loud commotion which worried Tim.
“Look at Maritrash!”
“Where are your bodyguards now, huh?”
“Not so invincible now, are you?”
“I can’t believe she would do that to Lila!”
“What happened to the sweet girl we once knew?”
Tim and Cass made eye contact for a moment before both rushed through the crowd and through the school in search of the small bluenette.  He had heard things here and there about how cruel some of the people here could be, heard about the girl that could twist anything, but it seems that it was extremely downplayed if this was what was happening during their lunch hour.
They shoved their way toward the center of the gathered mass of students to see Marinette in the center, food completely covering her, and every time she took a step toward the crowd in hopes of an opening to escape, she was pushed back and something else was thrown at her.  And near the center watching what was going on with a face full of sorrow, but eyes full of gleeful malice and Tim snapped.
“Marinette!”
He yelled while rushing towards her which caused her gaze to snap towards him.  He quickly pulled her to his chest which caused her to start shaking, her breath spiking slightly, his shirt becoming damp.  He needed to get them out of Paris and quickly before Hawkmoth got the opportunity to use her rightful emotions against her.
“Cass, I need you to call Kon.”
He yelled over the cacophony of people yelling and shouting profanities toward him.  He couldn’t focus on that right now though, he had to stay vigilant and protect his sister.  She was priority number one at the moment.  He wondered where the others were, but then recalled that Chloe, Adrien, and Kagami were on a business meeting with their parents out of the country.  It didn’t help that Kagami and Luka were out in different schools, but that didn’t explain where Juleka was, and he couldn’t find her in the crowd at all.  He could feel things begin to hit him, but that didn’t matter because they weren’t hitting Mari.
Bang
The entirety of the school froze and turned toward where the noise had come from.  Teachers began to pile out of the room with looks of fury and outrage even before they noticed the crowd of students, but once they did their looks made even Tim shiver in fear.
“So you think it’s funny to trap the entire faculty in the boardroom just so you could cause havoc?  Well you’ve all got another thing coming to you.”
The girl with sinister tear filled eyes spoke, clinging to another student.
“M-Marinette did it!  We tried to get her to-to stop, bu-”
“I’ve heard enough from you Rossi!  After a similar stunt was pulled we were able to get the camera footage sent directly to our phones, we know exactly what happened, and so will your parents.”
At that the girl paled, and Tim felt a vindictive satisfaction.  There was a small yank on his sleeve and he looked to the side to see Cass pulling him towards the doors.  Kon must have arrived.
“Hey, I have a few friends that want to meet you.  Follow me.”
He whispered softly into her ear.  She nodded wordlessly and let herself be pulled along as they traveled past all of the students who were still being yelled at by the teachers and staff.  Once they made it to the stairs Kon ran up to them and looked all three of them over, slightly panicked.
“What happened Tim?”
“Can you take us to the tower?  We need to get out of here quickly.”
Tim urgently replied.
“Lila might become Akumatized.”
Marinette murmured against his chest.  Tim ran his fingers through her hair and whispered,
“It’ll be you if we don’t leave now.”
Tim gently pushed her towards Kon and looked him directly in the eye,
“This is Marinette, take her first and make sure she’s safe.”
Kon nodded and waited till Marinette came towards him before he picked her up and left.  Tim slowly clenched his fists and took in long slow breaths before relaxing them again.  He needed to be level headed right now, he needed to tell their parents about what happened.  Sabine had told him all about how she, Tom, and many other parents protested against the school to the school board and how, because of that, the school had gotten new administration and a stricter zero-tolerance policy.  They needed to know about this.
Cass placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, grounding him, keeping him present.  He carefully placed his hand atop hers, taking one last calming breath before giving her a small nod.
“I need to go tell Tom and Sabine about what’s happening.”
Cass gave a serious nod and once Tim released her hand they made the quick walk to the bakery.
To say Sabine was upset would be the understatement of the century, she was enraged.
“I knew it!  I knew that it wouldn’t be enough.  We are either transferring to homeschool or to a new school completely.  Kagami said that the school she attends gives out scholarships, I just know Marientte would be able to get one with her designs.  She is never going back to that Hell Hole ever again!”
Sabine yelled as she paced anxiously around the apartment flat.  She made a quick turn and looked Tim directly in the eyes, her face softening as she did so when Tim flinched back.
“Sorry dear.  Thank you for saving Marinette.  Please make sure that she’ll be okay for us.”
Tim nodded.
“Of course.  You’ve all helped me so much, and I’d do anything for her.”
Sabine pulled him into a tight hug that he quickly returned.
“I’m so proud of you Tim.  You truly are one of the greatest souls to be on this Earth.”
Tim could feel his eyes water, but he quickly pushed them back feeling Cass’s gaze on the two of them.  He could feel the soft smile she was sending the both of them.  Sabine pulled away a few moments later only to leave a gentle kiss to his temple.
“Tell Marinette that she can stay with your friends as long as she would like.  It will take some time for me to complete the transfer process, but it will happen.”
Tim nodded, his eyes showing a determined fierceness.
“Of course.”
Tim felt his phone buzz.  Kon was back.
“Be safe.  I love you Tim, and please tell Marinette that I love her too.”
Tim nodded shyly, still unused to the open shows of affection.
“I will.”
A pause.
“I love you too.”
It wasn’t the first time he had told them that, but the words still felt foreign on his tongue.  Sabine softened a little more, placing one last kiss on his temple before she stood up and left.  And with that, Cass and Tim left the small apartment to meet Kon who was waiting for them right outside.
“How is she?”
Tim immediately asked.  Kon stared at Tim in shock, his heartbeat was through the roof.
“She was very distraught, but Cassie is taking care of her right now.”
Tim let out a sigh of relief.
“That’s good, Cassie should be able to help her.  Alright, I need you to take us.”
Kon raised a brow, he had so many questions, but from the panicked look on his friend’s (practically brother’s) face, he knew that he wasn’t going to get them until this was resolved.  He bent down slightly, letting Tim climb onto his back before he scooped Cass up and they flew to Titans Tower.
________
Marinette paced around the room like a caged animal.  There was so much that could go wrong, and she was stuck here unable to do anything.  Cassie and Bart watched her with concerned eyes.  Kon had only given them the briefest rundown of everything, saying that this was “a friend of Tim” and that he had asked for him to bring her here.
“She doesn't seem very crash.”
Bart stage whispered as he snacked on a bag of potato chips.  Cassie rolled her eyes at her friend,
“No, she doesn’t.”
Marinette wasn’t paying attention to their words though, she wasn’t even aware that they were talking.  All she could do was listen to the thoughts in her mind telling her that something bad would happen and it would be all her fault.  That because she was gone she would not be able to help or save her people if there was an attack which would make her the worst and most useless hero in the world!  Then she would lose her Miraculous, Chat would demand that she pass on the guardianship because of how irresponsible she was, Tim would abandon her when he realized how useless of a sister she was and-
Warm arms wrapped around her causing her racing mind to pause.
“I need you to breathe Mars, I know you’re scared, but everything is going to be okay.”
Marinette sucked in a deep breath, she wasn’t even aware of how shallow they had been, but now that she thought about it she had been seeing small black dots in the corner of her vision.
“That’s it, you’re doing so good now.  I’d never leave you Marinette, you and the others, you’re the last bit of family I have left.  Even if you weren't, you're still my sister, and that means everything to me.”
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she needed to fight them back, she couldn’t have strong emotions, those emotions would attract,
“It’s okay to cry now.  You’re not in Paris, if you need to cry I’m right here.”
She heard a door slide closed behind her, they were moving.  When had they even started moving?  Her body was gently moved down and she could feel herself sitting on her brother’s lap, her head resting against his chest letting her hear the steady beating of his heart.
Thump thump,
Thump thump,
Thump thump.
It was a steady rhythm, soothing in more ways than one.  Gentle fingers brushed through her hair and the dam broke as tears fell down her cheeks and sobs wracked her body.  It wasn’t fair.  She had done everything right, she was kind, patient, tried her best not to cause a scene, she forgave others, she helped them even when they didn’t like her, she had done everything right!  So why did they all hate her then?  What had she done, what was so bad about her, what did she do to make others hate her so much?!
“You didn’t do anything.  It’s all on them, you are so good Marinette, far too good.  They don’t deserve you, I don’t deserve you.  But we’re going to get through this, we’re going to do it together.  I’m not going to leave you to suffer on your own, I’ll stand by you, I’ll be your shoulder as long as you need me.”
Marinette clutched onto her brother, letting her hands fist around shirt.  Marinette didn’t know how long they were there, how long she spent ruining his shirt with her tears and snot, it could have been a few hours, minutes, even a day.  Despite that fact, Tim never once left her, always either rubbing her back, running fingers through her hair, humming, whispering comforting words, and just being the comforting presence that she needed.  It made her heart warm and helped to silence the sobs and slow the tears.  Tim loved her, he was here for.  She had Adrien, Chloe, Kagami, Luka, and her parents too.  She wasn’t alone.  Marinette slowly lifted her gaze to stare at her brother where he gave her the softest most loving smile she’d ever seen on him.
“You feelinging any better?”
He asked.  Marinette nodded, wiping the tears away with the back of her hand.  Tim leaned backwards and grabbed a box of tissues from some corner of the room they were in.
“Thank you.”
She whispered hoarsely, using the tissues to wipe her eyes and a few more to wipe her nose.  Now that she was thinking a little clearer she began to look around the room.  A mess would be an understatement, but a pigsty would be an overstatement as well.  She could tell it was a form of organized chaos, papers scattered across the floor, boards covering each of the walls with red strings wrapped around them, pens were scattered everywhere on the desk as well as stacks of manila folders filled to bursting with different papers, and when she looked up there was another board up there, this one was empty though, which was strange.  It kind of looked like her room, except it was mostly paper rather than bolts and scraps of fabric.
“Is this your room?”
She asked, sniffling slightly.  Tim blushed a little in embarrassment as he too looked around his room.
“Yea.  It probably looked a lot worse before.  I have no doubt that one of them was nice enough to clear out all of the trash and coffee mugs.  I’ll be doing the dishes for a month.”
He replied, grumbling the last sentence.  Marinette let out a small hum, leaning into the warmth that was her brother.  So who are your friends?  Tim smiled at that before he let out a long sigh.
“The one that took us here was Kon, he’s the one that we saved from that lab I told you about.  The blonde is Cassandra Sandsmark , though we call her Cassie.  She’s an Amazionian fighter, Wonder Woman’s sidekick, I think you too would get along really well.  Probably too well.”
He mumbled.  Clearing his throat he continued,
“The last one, the one who’s going to absolutely talk your ear off, is Bart.  He’s a speedster from an apocalyptic future that is living here.  So if he says something you don’t know or understand, there’s a high chance we don’t know either.”
Marinette giggled at that, causing time to smile as well.
“Your-er, Mom,”
She snickered again causing him to roll his eyes.
“Mom told me to let you know that she is going to try to transfer you to Kagami’s school.  She’s probably already called her by now to ask her about scholarships and admissions.  I’ll help of course, you deserve the best.”
Marinette sniffled again at that.  She would be leaving her old school then.  It wasn’t technically a bad thing, but it was still a foreign concept in her mind.  That she would be able to leave and escape the cruelty there.  She still had two years of school left and she had a feeling that they would be well spent at Kagami’s school, even if she did have to wear a uniform.  She had once asked Tim why he wasn’t in school, she had learned that he had actually skipped three grades and instead of graduating, like he should have, got an online GED.  He said that it didn’t matter to him since he “was running Bruce’s company before he even graduated”.  Sabine and Marinette had not been thrilled to hear that.
“Can I meet your friends?”
Tim smiled at that, he knew she was just trying to change the subject but he would let it go.  She deserved a break anyways.
“Yea, I can also get you some water since they’ll probably be in or near the kitchen anyways.”
With that marinette slowly stood up, Tim followed after her though he stretched his legs first before he opened his door and began his tour of his home-away-from-home.
__________
Tim watched from the sidelines with a smile as he watched his friends/family talk with Marinette.  He had no doubt that they would all get along, but it was still a relief and a weight off his shoulders to truly see it happening.  He watched Kon whisper something in her ear, Marinette glanced at him for a second and Tim felt nervous.  The next thing he knew Marinette burst out laughing and Tim was blushing despite the fact that he had no idea what was said.  He glanced over at Kon to see if he could get a hint of whatever story he was telling but only got a sly smirk and sideways glances from a chuckling Cassie.  He didn’t know if he wanted to know what story they told her.  They had so many stories, most of which he didn’t even remember due to his sleep deprived state that it was frankly concerning.  For him at least, they seem to enjoy holding these stories over his head whenever they need something.
Slowly, Tim approached the group, his family, and hesitantly asked,
“What exactly did I miss?”
Kon shook his head and placed a finger to his lips, smug smirk still firmly in place.  Marinette’s eyes glittered with mirth as she followed suit and shook her head.
“Sorry Tim-Tam, can’t say.”
“And why not?”
He asked, crossing his arms and lifting a brow to look at all of his team members.  Bart zipped right next to him, causing a small breeze in the room before rushing out,
“It’s a secret story.  Maybe one day you’ll be able to find a way to unlock it in one of your side quests.”
Cassie snickered as Tim pouted.  He honestly hadn’t played one of his open world adventure games in a while.  He mostly played any version of UMS with Marinette and her their family. Tim sighed, dropping his hands to his side casually enough as Bart placed an arm around his shoulders.  He could tell that there was some sort of trap here, they were holding out on something but he couldn’t tell what yet.  The kitchen was clean (that was a first); Kon, Cass, and Cassie were all gathered near Mari; and there was nothing that could be considered suspicious on the counters.  There was just a bag of flour, one on his side of the counter and one in hers.
…….
Oh no.  Tim could tell that Marinette knew that he figured out what she planned to do.  So with almost inhuman speed she lord the bag and threw a handful of it at Tim.  He quickly closed his eyes as the dusted wheat hit him square in the face.  Quickly reaching for his own bag he began to throw flour at her, only missing and hitting Cassie instead.  The fight went on for a while, everyone getting involved until they were all white as ghosts.  Marinette and everyone else was laughing, he knew that this was her idea. Probably revenge for the last time he initiated this same kind of fight.  It was worth it though.  She was happy, she wasn’t worried about a thing, and hopefully she can accept his friends.  Let them be a part of their small found family.  Tim never liked standing on the sidelines before.  But just watching her, seeing her happy like this even if it wasn’t fully him that made her smile like that.  Maybe he could make an exception for his dislike, but only if he could see her like this more often.

Lucky against all odds
Sibling!Timinette, Arranged Marriage!Daminette
Even before Tim learned, thanks to Bruce and his family, that the way his parents had treated him had been neglect, there was one thing, he could never forgive them: When he had been 8 years old, before he even figured out the identities of the local vigilantes, he and his little sister Marinette had been kidnapped.
Only a week prior to that after Marinette had turned three, his parents had decided that he was old enough to take care of himself and his sister and they didn’t need a nanny anymore, only a housekeeper who would come three days a week.
When they were kidnapped his parents, who had been on a business trip out of the country, decided to only pay the ransom for him and abandoned Marinette, doubting whether she was alive anymore anyway and they wouldn’t pay for a dead child. To the media they made it look as if Marinette just wasn't given back to them. Whenever he showed how angry he still was with them for this, they would put the blame on him, saying he had been responsible for both of them.
Years later, when he started as Robin, he told Bruce everything and asked him to open up a case for Marinette. He just had to believe that she was still out there. He used software to let old photos of her age virtually to know how she would look years later and he tried to become the best detective he could be, solving cold cases every chance he got, to hone his skills.
Almost a decade after the kidnapping Damian takes a look at Tim's case files on the bat computer, looking for blackmail material or anything he could use to get under his brother's skin for worrying Alfred and Dick. He finds a case Tim is working on regularly but is still unsolved. When he opens it, he recognises Marinette, the girl his mother brought back from a mission one day, who turned out to be bonded irreversibly to a powerful magic his grandfather coveted for the league. Ra’s and the girl had been locked in a psychological war for days until his mother asked him to use what he learned about influencing others to convince the girl, so she would no longer fight the engagement. It took a few visits and during those he got to know her well enough to feel like it wouldn’t be the worst to have her as a comrade. Finally she agreed to the engagement, which was a form of magical bond the league practices that requires some kind of consent from both.
This is why Damian knows she is alive although he is not sure where she is. Believing Tim had found out and was planning to get involved in things that were not his business he confronts him in front of everyone.
After her kidnapping, Marinette had been given to another group of shady characters and another until she ended up at the last base where she found the miracle box and was chosen by the kwami as the rightful guardian of the box full of gods. Usually they cursed anyone who tried to abuse their powers to suffer, but Marinette had just been curious about the pretty box and never wanted the power of it. Part of this was also, because this was the best way to protect themselves as well.
Not even an hour later Marinette had subdued the people who were still keeping her and wanted to leave, to go back to her brother although the tiny girl didn't really remember much about her home, when Talia came in, to confiscate the miracle box. She didn’t want to use it, she just wanted to prevent her enemies from getting their hands on it. But instead of a group of thugs, she found a little girl giving her a rather impressive glare for one so young and holding the box close to her chest with her scrawny arms. Deciding the girl would be a perfect little playmate for her own glaring hellion, she took the girl and the box and brought both back.
Ra’s liked the idea to bind the guardian permanently to the league by having her be engaged to his heir and was half annoyed and half impressed by her resistance. After all, resisting his will for this long meant that she had a strong spirit which would be an asset. To prevent the girl from breaking eventually, Talia asked Damian to convince her to give in as long as her father was still willing to humor her attitude.
Marinette grew to genuinely like Damian the more she got to know him. She had been at another base when Damian had been sent to live with his father for his own safety. To prevent Deathstroke from finding her, her bodyguard Kagami, the youngest of an old line of high class fighters, had hidden her with the help of an old acquaintance of Talia: Gina Dupain. Since then they have hidden in Paris, until one of the two missing miraculous became active and Ladybug and Ryuko decided to get the butterfly back to the box.
It takes a while until the Justice League learns about the situation and as soon as Damian/Robin hears about the two heroes, he knows who they are and he won’t accept not being there to help them. And neither will Tim, after he had a nap and is capable of putting two and two together.

The Lost One
Marinette is Bruce's bio child that was kidnap when she was three.
Her mom died in childbirth.
Batman was able to find her kidnapper but he was died and Mari was no where to be found. Half way across the world Mari is found by a baker couple while she was wondering around Pairs looking for daddy.
The Parisienne police force were not able to find out who her parents were caz she didn't know her dad's name and they never thought of looking at the missing person reports outside of France and Bruce lost all trace of her after she was took out of the state, but he never stopped looking hoping someday he would find her again.
The only thing Mari has form her farther is a one of a kind locket that has "My most beloved daughter M.W. daddy loves you always." carved inside of it.
The rest of the bats never knew much about her caz Bruce would never talk about her or use her name and she was took before he took anyone in. they only knew what Alfred would tell them about her and he would only refer to her as “the young Miss” and they never saw a pic of her. The only pic of her that Bruce hasn’t hidden away is the one he cares on his person.
So the rest of family end up meeting her before Bruce and they all adopt her as their sister before they even find out that she is their lost sister.
They end up meeting her when she is on a class trip to Gotham with her class. She meets Tim first at a coffee shop after she finds out the hotels coffee pot is broken and her class left her behind at the hotel and they end up ordering the exact same coffee.
They end up talking while waiting on there coffee and Tim finds out how her class has left her behind and how she in a hurry to get to them put she really need a cup of coffee so stopped here since it is on the was to were she is going. When he finds out she is from the class that he and Dick is suppose to be giving a tour of Wayne Enterprise he offers to escort his knew coffee sibling there
The next the batboys she meets is Dick who is worried caz this teacher left a student her in Gotham and is not even worried about her. Not only that he can also hear everything her class is calling her and the teacher is doing nothing to stop the obvious bullying that is happening to this student even if said student is not here. So he decides to call Tim and hope he is still in the area of their hotel and can swing by to hopefully see if she is still there. When Tim picks up and Dick tells him what going on he ends up telling him he already found her and how he found her and tells him that they’re on their way and they be there soon before hanging up. Dick was relived that the girl was alright and on her way with his brother.
When Dick first saw her when she walked in to the room the first think he noticed was how here smile lit up the whole room, but as soon as she saw her class her smile was gone as she shrunk into her try to make herself smaller as she shuffled slightly behind Tim like she was trying to hide. The two brother exchanged glances at that and they both agreed something was wrong with this class and they were going to find out what and if they just happen to adopt Mari as their new sister by the end of the tour no one need to know.
The next she meets is Jason as Red Hood after her class left her behind again but this time at the restaurant they went to for dinner. It was already getting dark and she was lost caz her phone die during dinner and end up cornered in an allay by two men and after she took them down she felt someone touch her shoulder and out of instinct she graded the offending hand and flipped the person over her shoulder. Once she realized who it was she was horrified with what she did and keep apologizing for what she did. Hood literally had to cover her mouth just so he could get a word in to tell her its fine and to find out why she was out so late. An when he found out what happen he was not happy and takes her to her hotel if he just happen to adopt her to after he told the family what happen and then heard Dick’s and Tim’s account of what happen with the class earlier that day no one needed to know. And if Bruce’s heart shatter when he heard that name again no one need to know caz he knew it couldn’t be her and if he told Damian watch out for the girl the next day when the class is visiting his school without saying her name and left without letting anyone say anything else no one need to know why.
The next she meet is Damian when the class is visiting Gotham Academy to see how American schools are like and each of the French students end up paired with a student of the Academy to fallow around for the day and if Marinette just so happens to end up paired with Damian no one needs to know why. Thought out the day she somehow is able to slide into his cold heart and becomes someone he believes is acceptable person he is willing to let in and protect no one needs to know.
During the second half of the Wayne Enterprise tour after the class has visited Gotham Academy, Dick and Tim leads the class into a room caz Bruce was wanting to talk to them about the dangers of Gotham and how no one should be left on their and about the other stuff he has heard about the class. But someone trips Marinette on her way in the room and she ends up falling on the floor but during her fall her necklaces falls off and ends up bouncing up to Bruce's feet and opening up. Bruce seeing this but was not able to see who tripped her or get a get a good look at the girl who was tripped before she fell goes to pick up the necklaces but when he gets a good look at it he freezes because there is only one necklaces like this in the world and he could only hope that she was who he hoped beyond hope she was. So with an almost unnoticed trembling hands he picked up the necklaces and walkover to the girl who was now sitting on the floor while her face was still facing away form him. When he final reached her he can tell she is starting to panic when she realizes that her necklaces around her neck anymore. So he deices to call out a soft miss to her and when she turned around and he finally got a good look at her face it took every bit of self-control he had not to break down right there. Because he new that face even if it was older and he hasn't seen it in person in many years he would never forget it. There right in front of him was his little girl.
When she first hears his voice she could help but think she knows that voice but she doesn't quite remember where she has heard it from. So she turns around with an confused expression and sees a pair of black slacks that she follows up to a suit jacket and then when she finally reached he man's face the first thing she noticed was his eyes; she knew those eyes. They're the same eyes she sees every morning in the mirror staring back at her. Those eyes still haunt her dreams. Those are the eyes she only remember seeing in one other person and she never thought to see again. Those are the eyes of her farther and that meant that this was her dad. The man that she remembered was always their for her and always tried to show he loved her even though he didn't show it like most people did. She could feel tiers start to form in her eyes as she looked at him as she whispered an all most inaudible “daddy.” But she could tell he hear her when she saw his mask cracked and eyes started to over joy and gain a slight shin to them.
Bruce barley caught what she said but when he registered what she called him he could not stop the absolute ecstasy that over came him. She remembered him she was so young when she was took but she still remembered him. but when he saw tires starting to form in her eye he could not and would not hold back damn the people around them this is his little girl and she needed him. So he got down on one knee and put her into his firm embraced while still keeping a firm hold on the necklaces in his hand and let her cry in his arms for the first time in what felt like forever while he tried to keep himself from breaking down. He could tell that his sons Dick and Tim were confused as they tried to clearing everyone out the room they were in, but he didn't pay them any mind his whole focused was on his little girl in his arms as he tried reassure himself this is not a dream and she is real.

Graveyard Siblings (4)
I am sorry for not posting in a while. School is a total bitch. Here is part 4 of a fic that is not a fic.
[Masterlist]
(Part 1)(Part 2)(Part 3)
-------
Tall Marinette.(I admit I might be projecting a little here.)
One day, she took out something from someplace high and the whole family realized that ‘holy shit when did you get so tall?’
Bonus if Jason comes back from a long mission and had a wtf moment because she was wearing 6-inch-heels and met his eyes with them on.
“Pixie?!”
------
You know how Bruce has the identity of Matches Malone to infiltrate the Gotham Underground.
While Jason does the drug deals more street crime stuff, Maria uses an excuse of being the representative for Red Hood excuse to mingle with the rich people who does crime on the side (Penguin), she uses it to go to black market auctions and buy some of the lost miraculouses which got into the hands of black market dealers.
Jason knows about it and acts as her ‘bodyguard’ anytime he can or sends one of his henchmen to be one with a death threat if she gets a single scratch on her.
Bruce is unaware of this. Or is he?
------
Mari helps with running WE since she is a little less busy with the vigilante side of things.
It started with Tim panicking about deadlines and Mari offering to help, to Bruce and Tim bullying the board to have her as co-CEO.
She has to be that and head of Afterlife. So she is very busy. Doesn’t know about what comes next….
------
Somehow the class comes to Gotham for a trip. It has been 3 years since her death.
Mari has changed her appearance since the day she left Paris. She has highlights in her hair after a ‘sibling bonding day’ with Jason. Her hair is kept short for convenience and not in pigtails. Along with her tall height and more confident aura, she is almost unrecognizable.
She rides a motorcycle too.
The class waits in the lobby for the tour and in walks this badass woman with aviator sunglasses, leather jacket and designer clothes which was all MT brand, making a lot of people swoon.
She takes off her glasses and walks past the class. Checking stuff on her phone and sipping coffee in her other hand.
She seems familiar but they couldn’t figure out why. (All except Chloe, Alix and Felix who are snickering in the background.)
Lila sees her and comments on how she must be a criminal with the way she dresses. (Lila internally freaks out because were her eyes messing with her? Because she looked a little like Marinette. Also jealous of the new arrival for stealing all the attention.) Alya takes the bait and calls security to ‘arrest’ her.
They just laugh. The class doesn’t understand, speaking in confused French.
-------------
“I am Maria Todd-Wayne, also known as designer MT. CEO of Afterlife and co-CEO of the very company you are in. I am allowed in here. Don’t judge a book by its cover.” she said in perfect French.
“But Lila told us you can’t speak French.”
“Who?”
“Lila Rossi, your friend. She told us that you and MT were dating.”
“Me dating myself. Okay I love myself because self-love is a thing but that is a whole other level. MT are my initials. Anyone who has a brain could have figured that out or at the very least do a Google search. I am not sure where your friend got that notion.”
“Hey, Bean, come on. We have a long day ahead of us.” Tim reminded her.
“Goodbye but cease the rumours or you would be escorted off the premises.”
As they rode up the elevator, “Tim, why are they here?”
“They are the lucky winners of the Wayne Enterprise Young Prodigies Contest. Why, Maria?”
“Lucky, huh.” She muttered under her breath. She might as well tell him. They are the Bats and they will find out anyway. “They are from my old class, the one you know…”
“Oh. Want me to send them back? I can do that if they are making you uncomfortable.”
“Nah. Too much to deal with. And it is unfair to send them back over a petty grudge. Besides, I could have some fun.”
“Anything that Bruce and I should be worried about?”
“I swear no killing. Just because Jason came back from the dead, hell-bent on killing. Doesn’t mean I am too.”
“Cool, just don’t do any property damage or traumatize our employees.”
“I might need you to erase some footage later and tell Bruce about this.”
“Some brownies, my favourite coffee cake, the ‘special’ brew and you have yourself a deal.”
-----
So basically she just showed up around where the class was ‘by coincidence’.
Talk to a few people and take them out of earshot of the rest of the class.
End the conversation by saying a few things only they and her would know. Insides jokes and secrets. (I pick her old childhood friends like, Nino, Kim and maybe Sabrina)
Uses Trixx to turn into a walking dead version of her 15-year old self and disappears as they freak out about how she knew that secret/story.
Freaks them out further by appearing again in front of the whole class and pretending not to know their previous conversation.
Mari manages to get Lila alone.
I should also say that Lila thought that her curse was making her see MT as Marinette.
It terrifies Lila when she finds out that MT is actually Marinette, not dead but alive after all this time and apparently living the high life she wanted. This fact made the Italian swell up with jealousy.
“I hope you are not lying about me again, Lila Rossi. Like you always do.”
“What do you want with me? I swear I didn’t say anything else about you.”
“Aw, Lila. Don’t recognize me?”
Maria flickers and Ladybug is in her place and later, the Marinette that appeared in her bedroom and back to normal.
“You! How? Why are you here? Why can’t you leave me alone?”
“Why not? I mean you did take away nearly all my friends, my parents and made my life a living hell. If you think about it, I am just repaying you the same favor. How are the others? Treating you well?”
“What did you do to me, you bitch?”
“I just put a curse on you. The ghosts of your past will haunt you until you stop.”
“Stop what?”
“Stop Lying, Liar. They all feed and grow in power from your lies. I wonder what would happen in a few years if you kept this up.”
“You think you can get away with this. This is war and I have already beaten you once.”
“Oh Rossi. This isn’t a war. It’s a death sentence.” With that she disappears.
Lila tries to tell her class that MT is actually Marinette. She is met with crazy looks. Some of them look like they want to believe her but don't because they don’t want to look crazy too.
Oh. Adrien wasn’t on the trip because his mother didn’t want him to go to the crime capital of America although the crime rate has gone down a little due to Hellbat curing some of the city’s bad energy..
Right after Lila told the class about MT, Scarecrow came to steal some Wayne tech and the class got caught in the crossfire. So later, it was brushed off as Lila seeing things due to the fear toxins.
-----
Joker made the mistake of kidnapping her. Once was enough to never try that again.
(It involved the use of nearly all of the Miraculouses, old and new. He was thoroughly humiliated at the end of it and his picture by the time Hellbat was done with him was on the Batfam’s Christmas Card. Like I said she doesn’t kill but making them beg for death was okay.)
It coincided with Jason’s Birthday and the video of the incident was ‘the best birthday present ever.’ The uncensored version was watched at the next undead siblings bonding day. Damian included.
After hearing a few rumours about what happened, most criminals were glad for Hellbat’s rare appearances. (which happens once a month and during really busy time of the year)
There was a time where Penguin was carrying out one of their plans and when Hellbat showed up, all of their thugs surrendered instantly. (No Batman did not pout at the fact that this French girl was more imitating than him.)
Scarecrow used his newest batch of fear toxin on her during the first year after she died.
He was astounded to see her still standing and she later proceeded to beat the crap out of him while being under the toxin’s influences.
He has tried to stay out of her way since then.
She saw Scarecrow as Hawkmoth and said a lot of things in French which scared everyone because she said it with so much hate, anger and in a very menacing tone that everyone is like ‘I am not touching this.’
It took Red Hood and Nightwing to restrain her from further beating Scarecrow up.
He was one of the people who sympathised with the Joker after the Incident.
The next was Riddler being so arrogant in his plans and managed to get Hellbat and Spoiler into a death trap.
“You know I have a few regrets in life. And my final one is that I got captured and am now going to get killed by a walking fashion disaster.”
“Hey! I made this myself. I will have, you know.”
“You have a brilliant mind but no sense of fashion at all. When I get out of here, I am going to burn that thing with you in it, for your crimes against fashion.”
“What is wrong with it?”
Cue a lot of roasting of Riddler’s costume and Spoiler adding more fuel to the fire.
They manage to escape while Riddler is crying on the floor, having an existential crisis.
The thing was no one knows why Riddler was silent the entire week after encountering Hellbat and crying when anyone mentions it.
They now think Hellbat is the scariest one in the Batfamily, second to Batman and tied with Black Bat/Orphan.
The few who find out what really happened in the warehouse that night. Blackmail material on the Riddler.
Three ( four if you count Penguin) of Gotham’s biggest villains of the Rogues Gallery scared of Bats’ newest addition. Hellbat was not someone they wanted to mess with.
---------
Magic crisis stuff. Like a world ending event thing. Dr. Fate says they need the Miraculous jewels but the last mention of them had been in Paris a few years ago and had vanished since then.
Costantine looked at Batman. “You know who you have to call.”
Batman calls Hellbat. Who hasn’t been introduced yet to the JL.
“Ah. Bats. Not that I question your authority or anything but how can your newest ‘ward’ help us?”
She takes off her helmet and reveals her face and more importantly, her earrings.
Tikki comes out of her hiding place.
“I am the current Guardian of the Miracle Box and wielder of the Ladybug miraculous during Hawkmoth’s reign in Paris a few years ago. Any other Questions?”
“Oh great Guardian. Tikki. It is an honour to meet you.”-Wonder Woman, who else.
“You too, Princess Diana. Pass on my regards to your mother.”-Tikki
A huge face-off and the big evil is defeated.
WW asks abt HM and gives a horrified face at the end of her story. Nearly everyone who eavesdropped on the conversation was.
"Forgive me, Guardian for not aiding you in your hour of need.”
“It’s okay. I understand that there are other crises, world-ending ones that JL have to take care of. I am better now. Mostly.”
“I doubt it with those revenge schemes I found lying around. But she is getting there with her therapist.”-Batman
“I hate you, Dad.”
“Did you just call him Dad?”
“No….”
“Do you see me as a father figure?”
“I see you as a nuisance with how nosy you are with my personal business. So you are more of a bother figure.”
“I see you as part of the family too, Daughter.” (Got that reference anyone?)
“Jason was the one who adopted me.”
“Legally you are adopted by me.”
Maria with Pikachu surprised face because nobody told her that. “My life is a lie.”

A dreary room appeared on the screen as the video started. An attempt at making it kid-friendly could be seen, but it was obviously a room from a police station, or some other kind of government-funded institution.
A little girl of Asian descent was sitting on a chair facing the camera. Almost out of frame, and a little underneath the camera, a man and a woman could be seen sitting, facing her.
“Come on, kid,” the man started with a soft voice, in heavily accented English, before leaning slightly forward. “Can you tell us your name, at least?”
The little girl didn’t react, beside a narrowing of her eyes.
“Alright kid, what about that? If you tell us your name,” he continued, one of his hands searching for something in his jacket. He took out a lollipop and presented it to her. “I will give you this—”
The girl cut him off with a scream. She screeched loudly, eyes closed shut and voice full of terror, quickly putting as much space between her and the lollipop as humanly possible. The man stood up, panic obvious in his movements.
The woman rushed to the kid, trying to calm her down and failing. The man made a move to follow her, only to bump into the table in his way. The kid, Marinette — Mei, opened her eyes at the sound, and screeched even louder when she saw the man trying to get closer to her.
“Okay, Mark, get out,” the woman said in French, turning toward her colleague.
“Quoi?” The newly identified Mark asked, freezing in place.
“You are stressing her out! We are not going to get anywhere if you stay here!” She hissed, turning to glare at him. “Get out!”
Mark’s shoulder slumped, but he turned around and got out of the room. The woman didn’t say anything until they heard the sound of the door closing.
“Alright honey,” she said in English, her French accent almost unnoticeable. “I got him out, he is not here anymore. See?”
Marinette nodded shakily, eyes staring unblinkingly in the door’s direction.
“My name is Laure,” the woman said slowly, still trying to get a name out of the girl, sitting down more comfortably on the floor. When she saw she wouldn't get an answer, she continued. “Can you tell me what about Mark scared you?”
Marinette turned her stare toward Laure for a moment, and when they were starting to think she was not going to answer when she opened her mouth.
“It’s not good when strangers give you candy,” she said softly, her tone making clear that she thought Laure wasn’t very bright, if she needed an explanation. “Because if they do, then they take you out of your home.”
“Gotham, right?” Laure asked, and Marinette’s eyes widened in surprise. “It was in the files we found with you. They knew where you came from, but not your name.”
“They didn’t ask for a name,” Marinette said flatly.
“Can you tell me your name?” Laure tried again, a little smile on her face.
“No,” Marinette stated, causing Laure’s smile to turn a little strained.
“Ah, okay,” Laure said slowly, obviously at a loss of what to say. “What can you tell me about the people who took you?”
“They had candy,” she responded without hesitation. “When can I go back home?”
“Well, it will depend on when we find you a home,” Laure said with a smile. “The child psych–”
“Just put me in one of Gotham’s children’s halls,” Marinette said with narrowed eyes. “Which one doesn’t really matter.”
“Sweetie,” Laure said with a grimace. “You’re not going back to Gotham.”
“What?!” Marinette exclaimed loudly, getting up from her position on the floor. “You can’t keep me from Gotham!”
“Sweetie–”
“Don’t ‘sweetie’ me!” Marinette cut in with a shrill voice. “I have to go back to Gotham! Annie is in Gotham!”
“Who is Annie?”
“Family,” Marinette hissed, trying to walk around Laure to run out of the room.
“Then tell us your name!” Laure exclaimed, grabbing Marinette around the waist. “We can find your family with your name, then we will send you back to them.”
Marinette stayed silent, glaring down at the floor.
“We — I can’t help you if you don’t give us your name, honey,” Laure tried again with a tired sigh. “Help me find Ann—”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What are you watching?” Bruce's voice cut in from behind them, and Duke saw Barbara push the spacebar to put the video on pause.
The three of them turned around to stare at him intensely, and Bruce’s head jerked back in surprise at what he saw on their faces.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s file on the Batcomputer,” Duke told him, wanting to see his reaction. Whatever he was expecting, it wasn’t for Bruce to shake his head in amusement.
“Tim already asked for your help? He gave up earlier than I thought,” he said with a chuckle.
“What does Tim have to do with anything?” Duke asked, confusion clear on his face and voice. He really didn’t know how Bruce came to this conclusion.
“What do you mean?” Bruce asked with a frown. “If not because of Tim, why are you looking at Miss Dupain-Cheng’s file?”
“Why is Tim looking into her?” Barbara asked, instead of answering, turning her wheelchair completely around to face Bruce.
“Don’t change the subject,” he told her with a frown. “What are you not telling me?”
“Why do you have a file on Dupain-Cheng in the Batcomputer?”
“Barbara, what are you not telling me?” He asked in his I’m-not-joking-around tone. She stared at him for a moment, before rolling her eyes with a sigh.
“Do you know her name? The one she had before being found in Paris?” She asked him slowly, and all three of them studied Bruce’s face carefully.
“No,” he said with a frown, his eyes moving to the paused video on the screen. “Mrs Perreault tried to get it out of her for another twenty minute in this video, but she barely even said another word. And if she told her family or friends after that, there is no mention of it anywhere. Why?”
“We do,” Barbara said slowly, her fingers tapping a rhythm on the arm of her wheelchair. “She was in the Riddler’s attack at the school, and it came up in the conversation between her, Dad, and Duke.”
“Alright,” he said, and Duke could tell that he was apprehending their next words. Bruce looked at him before continuing. “And what is it?”
“It’s…” Duke started, shooting a look at Barbara, who only looked encouragingly at him. The traitor just didn’t want to be the one to tell Bruce. He took a deep breath, before looking back at Bruce. “She said it’s Mei Leyton.”
Every muscle in Bruce's body visibly froze at this, all emotions were wiped out of his face, and he stared at Duke intensely. He then turned toward Barbara, silently asking her to confirm.
“It looks like it checks out. We don’t have pictures of Mei after her seven’s birthday, and she changed a lot between then and when the French police found her but,” Barbara started, turning her wheelchair back toward the monitor and bringing things up on the screen as she talked. “I put it in facial reconnaissance software and it’s a match.”
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng is Mei Leyton,” Bruce stated more than asked with a quiet voice. He walked forward until he was standing just beside Barbara, looking at the screen with so much intensity, Duke was afraid it would catch fire. “The same Mei Leyton I’ve been looking for, for eight years now.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that you were still looking?” Barbara asked with a tone of reproach, and Duke could say that she was pissed. “You told me that she was most probably dead, that I should stop looking. You forced me to stop looking, and then you go and look for her?”
“You were using the search for Mei as a way to cope with Jason’s death,” Bruce told her, not unkindly. “It wasn’t good for you, I couldn’t let you continue.”
“But it was good for you?” She shot back with a glare. “Don’t tell me looking for her wasn’t a coping mechanism for you, too!”
“It was different.”
“It was not!”
“Barbara,” Bruce said with a sigh, before seemingly deciding to let the subject drop. “Did you tell Jason?”
“Not yet,” Duke said when Barbara stayed silent, only continuing to glare at Bruce. “We found her file on the Batcomputer, as Marinette, and we wanted to know why you had it before talking with Jason.”
“It didn’t have anything to do with Mei’s search,” Bruce said, instantly understanding what Duke wasn't saying. “I wouldn’t have kept it from Jason if it had.”
“We just needed to be—”
“Then what is it?” Barbara cut him off, still staring at Bruce. “Why do you have a file on her?”
“For another reason,” he just said.
“We want to know this reason, Father,” Damian intervened for the first time, and Duke had almost forgotten he was even there, narrowing his eyes suspiciously at Bruce.
“This is not something that I’m at liberty to discuss with any of you,” he replied, with his you-won’t-make-me-change-my-mind tone.
“No,” Barbara breathed out, and Duke looked at her to see her jerk back in surprise, eyes wide.
“Barbara,” Bruce said with a warning tone.
“I’m right, aren’t I? She is… You can’t keep that from Jason, Bruce,” she told him, with the same voice she used on Dick to make him stop using so much puns on patrol.
The tone she uses when she already knows the battle is lost.
“I’m not at liberty to discuss this with anyone, Barbara,” Bruce said again, more forcefully, and Duke knew the subject was closed. And that Damian and him wouldn’t be privy of the information Barbara obviously deduced. “You should call Jason, the earlier we tell him, the better.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Why is she splitting up with her class?”
“How should I know? You’re the one with a crush, Timbo, work it out.”
“It’s not a crush—”
“No names in the field, Hood.”
“You sounded just like B, Nightwing.”
“Har, har. Hilarious. Also, totally a crush, Red.”
“It’s not! She made B react! And she acted weird at lunch—”
“You took her out already? Wow, you’re working faster than you were with Ladybug, congrats Red!”
“Ah, I don’t know about that. She knew you were there, at lunch, or were you just spying on her?”
“Oh my god, can you both shut up! B all but confirmed there was something going on with her, I just want to know what!”
“So you’re gonna follow her?”
“Yes! Nightwing, can you take over the class for me, please?”
“...Fine. But don’t be creepy with her, Red, okay?”
“Seriously?!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walking through Gotham’s bleary streets as an adult was so different from living in them as a kid; Marinette couldn’t help but be amazed. And maybe it was weird, but it really was an amazing experience. She did tell Alya that Gotham had changed a lot in ten years, but she hadn’t really realized how much until now.
She honestly hadn’t thought her teachers would still let her go on her own, what with the Riddler’s attack, but they didn’t even protest a little. Apparently, the paperworks and waivers she and her parents signed that allowed her to roam free after school hours, were more than enough for them.
Now, she just needed to lose her tail.
She didn’t know why one of Gotham’s vigilantes — she couldn’t see them well enough to identify which one — was following her, but it was probably because of how she took care of the Riddler situation. And, honestly, she would have let them tail her, she could understand why they would be wary of her in their city, but not today. Not for what she wanted to do.
And maybe shaking a tail from one of the Batclan wasn’t a smart move to make them forget her, but…
She didn’t need, or want, spectators for when she was going to visit the closest thing her mother had to a grave.
So she worked her magic.
She walked straight into a dense group of passerby walking in the other direction, and started walking with them. She took off Ashley’s jacket, putting it in her bag, before untying her hair, taking out the cap and sunglasses she had in her bag and putting them on.
When her group merged slightly with a group going into the opposite direction, the one she was taking originally, she slipped in with them, losing the cap then. She changed groups again, putting Ashley’s jacket on backward and losing the glasses.
She did it a couple of times more, before she was totally sure she did shake them off. It was a detour, making her route longer than anticipated but, on the bright side, she was now in front of a cute little flower shop. Hopefully, they would have some Iris, they always were her mother’s favourites.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I lost her.”
“What?!”
“What do you mean, you lost her?!”
“I mean that I lost her tail! I’m not speaking Spanish Hood!”
“I speak Spanish, I would have unders—”
“That’s not the point and you—”
“Cut it out, guys. Can we go back to the fact that Red Robin just lost a target?”
“Yeah, Red, aren’t you like, the best stalker in this city? How the hell did a high schooler spot and escape you?!”
“I don’t know if she knew I–”
“She lost you, Timbo, of fucking course she knew you were following her.”
“Hood, no na—”
“Yeah, yeah, don’t get your panties in a twist. Where was she when you lost her, raawr?”
“...”
“...”
“What was that sound at the end, Hood?”
“What? Raawr?”
“Yeah, that. Are you having a stroke?”
“Har har. No, but Nightwing is insisting on codenames only.”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“It’s his codename.”
“No it’s not. I’m pretty sure I would know if my codename was… Raawwrr.”
“No, not raawwrr, Raawr.”
“That was the exact same sound…”
“No it was not. The first is the sound you make when you’re having a stroke. The second is how you pronounce the double R.”
“Are you serious right now? Seriously? Can’t you just call me Red? Or Red Robin?”
“No, I’m not like other girls, Raawr.”
“What the hell, Ja—”
“Tututut, Nightwing said no name on the field Raawr.”
“And I’m now begging you to stop this torture, Hood.”
“You brought this upon yourself, Nightie.”
“No. Hood don’t—”
“Anyway! Raawr, her location?”
“...”
“Just tell him, Red. He will not stop, no matter what we say.”
“You betcha I won't.”
“...Fuck you. She was a little past the 4th, going south, I think. Why do you even want to know?”
“And she went there by passing through Main or Schnapp Avenue?”
“Schnapp Avenue.”
“And you said she was originally from Gotham?”
“Yeah… She said she was adopted at ten, but her Mom died at seven. She didn’t mention anything in between.”
“...What was she wearing today?”
“What? What does that have to do with anything?”
“I think I know where she is going, I just want to be sure.”
“And her clothes would help…how?”
“Just answer his question Ra–Red.”
“Ugh, alright. She was wearing a dress, blue and white, with black embroidery, some sort of flower I couldn’t really see, because she had a Gotham Academy’s jacket. I don’t think the jacket was hers, obviously.”
“I think it was a camellia. I know where she is going.”
“How?!”
“...”
“Hood, how do you know where she is going just through Red’s description of her clothes? For that matter, how do you know what flower— Oh.”
“Yeah, she is going to visit the Fallen’s Memorial, on Camellia Street.”
“What memorial?”
“Do you know how long the morgue keeps bodies, after the case is classed, Raawr?”
“A year in Gotham. Too much murder, not enough places in the morgue.”
“And do you know what they do if nobody reclame the body? If, say, they don’t have family left, or their family doesn't have the money to bury them?”
“They… Yeah, they incinerate them…”
“Yeah, and the people in Camellia are the most touched by that. Do you know how many workers are killed there every year? Too much. And do you know how many bodies end up buried every year?”
“...”
“One, maybe two. And only if they had a rich and generous regular… Not something that happens a whole lot. So they put up a memorial, it’s the closest those people have to a grave.”
“And you think she is going there?”
“Going by the directions Raawr gave me? It’s the most likely option.”
“Yeah, he could be right. And… The flower did look like a camellia, from what I could see.”
“I’m not far from there, I will try to pick up the trail again, see if she notices me as fast as she noticed Raawr.”
“She didn’t—”
“Sorry! I can’t hear you! I’m going dark, bye Raawr! Bye Nightie!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey Mom,” she started slowly, putting down the flowers, a couple of beautiful white Irises, in between all the other ones.
The Memorial wasn’t much, only names painted on a wall, but it was all they could afford to remember all the people who couldn’t be buried.
It took her a minute to retrieve her mother's names, taking the time to pass a hand on all the names that were added since the last time she was here. Jason had made it a point to take her here every couple of weeks, and even more regularly at the beginning.
She had missed coming here.
“I sincerely hope you and Jason are well, Mom. Although, you better be taking care of each other, alright?!” She told the wall, a sad smile on her lips.
She had talked to her mother while away from home, of course, in the dead of the night, or when she was in the middle of a crisis. But being here… It made her feel so much closer to her mother.
“You probably already know, but my life has been a mess for a while,” she said softly. “But it’s finally getting better! And I’m gonna be home, permanently, soon. I got admitted to Gotham U, for a double major in design and business.”
She put her hands in the pocket of her dress — one of the wonders of making her own clothes — and started to sway slightly on her feet.
“I met two of Jason’s brothers in the last two days. I don’t know if they knew him or not, I just…” She sighed, shoulders slumping a little. “I don’t know where he is buried. I know it’s not important to be there to talk to him but… I already let him down in life, I wouldn’t forgive myself if I never get to see him. If I don’t ask him to forgive me face to face. But I didn’t have the strength to ask them for the location. I’m not even sure they would have given it anyway but…
“Tell him I’m sorry, Mom. Please, tell him I tried to come back. Tell him I didn’t want—” She cut herself when she heard steps behind her, turning her head slightly to see what was happening.
She thought it would be another mourner, or maybe the vigilante picking up her trail again, but the smug smile on the man's face was not something a mourner would wear here. And he definitely wasn’t a Bat.
“Well, what a cutie like you is doing out there,” he said slowly, his words a bit slurred.
“Don’t you know where we are?” She asked, eyes narrowed. If she had known how much this trip would grate on her nerves, she would probably have made that deal with Lila, back at the library. “Don’t you have any respect?”
“What? Are you here to pay your respect, maybe?” He said with a small mocking laugh. “With how dolled up you’re? I don't think so.”
“How dare you—”
“Come on, babe, just give me a price,” he continued over her, as if she didn’t even open her mouth.
“I wouldn’t take you as a client even if you were to pay me with Bruce Wayne’s fortune,” Marinette snapped at him, letting go of her bag and taking a menacing step toward him.
But, of course, he didn’t take her seriously.
“Then I’ll just take what I want,” he said, stretching out an arm to grab her, and his smile turned vicious.
She grabbed his forearm before he could, turning him around with it and pushing him. She locked it in his back, pushing the pig’s face first in the wall opposite the Memorial, not without taking notice of the sound of someone landing behind her. When whoever landed there didn’t make a move, she put them on the back burner and focused back on the pig.
“Listen, you asshole,” she hissed in his ear, locking his arm higher. “I’m having a very bad week, and it started only two days ago, and now you’re trying to be the biggest salopard ever, when I’m at my Mom’s grave for the first time in years? You are lucky your nose is the only thing that I’m going to break tonight, shithead.”
He opened his mouth, probably to spew more bullshit, and Marinette grabbed his hair with her free hand, and made good on her promise. It had the fortunate side effect of getting him unconscious. Which was a plus in her book.
Satisfied, she turned around, only to find herself face to helmet with Red Hood.
“Oh. You are Red Hood,” she said dumbly, blinking up at him.
“That I am,” he replied, and despite the voice changer, Marinette could hear amusement in his tone. He looked down at the pig’s unconscious body.
“I’m not usually that violent,” she felt obligated to mention, tone a bit bashful.
“Hell, don’t feel bad about it, he had it coming,” Red Hood told her, his head slightly tilted, like he was studying her.
“Well… It was fun meeting you, I will let you take care of him,” Marinette said, pointing a thumb toward the pig. “I’m a big fan of your work, by the way.”
“Of my work?” He asked, tone incredulous, head jerking back in surprise. “You mean, Batman—”
“No. Well, yes, but at the moment I was talking about yours,” she said, walking back toward her mother’s name. “He did a lot for Gotham, but you, you changed things in Crime Alley more than he ever did.”
He stayed silent for a moment, and she could tell he was staring at her intensely. She ignored him, passing a hand over her Mom’s name.
“Bye Mom,” she said softly. She ignored Red Hood’s sharp inhale of breath behind her, used to this reaction when people learned about her mother. “I will come back before I leave, I promise.”
She turned around to grab her bag and leave, only to find Red Hood way closer than he had been a second ago. He was staring at her, there was no way he was not, fist closed tight by his sides. She couldn’t see them, not with his gloves, but she was sure his knuckles were white. She didn’t have the time to be surprised, because he said something she wasn’t expecting to hear.
“Sandy?” His voice was low, his tone broken, and the word was mostly choked out, but she knew what she heard. She tensed up, her features twisting with anger.
She was at the end of her rope, everything since the start of this trip kept piling up, but that? That was just too much.
“Where did you hear that name?! How do you know anything about that name?!”
She took a menacing step, even if she didn’t expect him to feel threatened by her, ready to keep questioning him nonetheless. But…
He took a step back, putting his right hand in front of him, the thumb of his left hand cracking his middle finger, and let out a nervous chuckle. And she… She paused.
Because it was impossible. Unbelievable. But…
“What name? I didn’t say any names, did I? I was just,” He said nervously, still laughing awkwardly.
It was right there. In front of her. Hitting her in the face like a brick. After all, she had seen weirder before, hadn’t she?
“Asking when you leave! Sunday! I said Sunday!” He added, almost crowning in victory.
And how many times did she see this reaction before? The position, the crack of his finger, the name. It was him. It could only be him. (She would break if she was wrong, she knew she would but… She couldn’t be wrong.)
“Because you probably leave on Sunday don’t y—”
“Annie,” she choked out, barely a whisper, but it shut him off. And that was the only confirmation she needed. Tears started flowing down her cheeks, the dam she put on years ago breaking off. She whimpered again, painfully this time, her breath staying stuck in her throat. Choking on her own words, she forgot how to breathe. “Annie.”
He stayed silent for a moment too long, and Marinette broke harder than if she had been wrong. He was here. He was alive, somehow, but… He hated her. And she knew why; she left him after all. He was right to hate her, he had all the reasons to.
And there were not a lot of things she could tell him to make him forgive her.
But she could try.
“I—” She started, only to be cut off by her own sobbing. She extended her right hand toward him, only to stop herself, bracing it against her chest with her left hand. She didn’t have the right to touch him, not when he so obviously hated her for what she did. “I’m so sorry. I know you hate me, I know— You probably think I choose to leave, but I swear, I didn’t— I tried to come back to you, I really did but they wouldn’t—
“And I know that doesn’t change anything about what I did. I know I still left you, and you probably can’t forgive me for that but— I know I have no right to ask you that, but please, just listen to me. Let me explain why—”
The pig she had beaten unconscious made a sound, reminding her of where they were, and what Jason was wearing. Because of course her brother would come back from the dead and become a vigilante with a side of crime lord.
“I can’t force you to listen to me,” she said, forcing herself into Ladybug mode — again, she hadn’t done it two time in a day since Hawkmoth. “But if you can give me a chance to explain myself, please, come find me. I’m staying at the Belle Monico, room 317.”
She turned toward the pig, but he was still out of it.
“Please, Jason,” she added quietly, and he jerked in surprise. She only called him Jason when she was feeling down.
Then, like the courageous woman and superhero she was, she turned around and fled the place.
She couldn’t stay to hear him say no. Hear him say that what she did was unforgivable, that no matter what she would say, nothing could convince him to forgive her.
That he hated her more than he had ever hated his father.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was frozen. Locked in place, his muscles refusing to listen to him. She was here. In front of him. She was not lost to him anymore. She wasn’t dead. She was talking to him, alive, breathing, healthy, crying. He could understand why, though. He was crying too. She was alive. His little sister was alive.
“I can’t force you to listen to me but, if you can give me a chance to explain myself, please, come find me. I’m staying at the Belle Monico, room 317,” she said, looking back toward the asshole — who had just tried to hurt his little sister. “Please, Jason.”
He jerked back, because what? She wasn’t supposed to be sad. They just found each other again, it was a happy occasion! Then, the words she had been saying to him finally registered. Explain herself? Forgive her? She wasn’t responsible!
He knew she didn’t leave him on purpose, that something else, something out of her control, happened to her. He never believed otherwise, not even for a second. How could she doubt that?
By the time he understood what was happening, she was already turning the corner. He was about to follow her, even if having Red Hood run behind her would be far from convenient. He didn’t really care at the moment.
But, before he even got one foot off the floor, he was cut off by Red Robin barging in with his bike.
“Turn on your comm Hood, that’s urgent!”
He closed his eyes, sighing. The timing was shitty, but the interruption made him rethink his project to corner Mei in his Red Hood get up.
“Take care of that asshole, Red Robin.”
Tim looked taken aback, by the sharp tone or the complet codename, Jason didn’t know, and didn’t care. He turned around, making his way back toward his bike. He really didn’t care what Bruce wanted him to do in tonight’s patrol, he had better things to do.
Still, to let him know he would have to turn on his earpiece.
He sighed, but reluctantly did it. Already opening his mouth to talk, but cut off by Oracle’s voice.
“—tter pick up, Hood. Seriously, what sort of idiot goes dark at the start of patrol?! If he is not on in two seconds, I will virtually end—”
“Calm down a notch, Oracle, would ya? I was busy,” he cut her off, not wanting to know what she would have done to him. She could be vicious.
“Hood! Great! Come back to the Batcave,” she told him, going directly to business. Fuck, that meant that, whatever it was, it was serious. “We got knew informations about Dupain-Cheng and—”
“You mean; that she is Mei?” Jason said, cutting her off again — not something he would have done, if he wasn’t a total wreck at the moment. He heard a couple of gasps, letting him know that this information had already been shared in the family. “Yeah, guess what. You're late to the party.”
“Jason, you need to come to the Cave,” Oracle said, and that actually made him pause. Barbara was almost as uptight as Bruce when it concerned codenames. That she would call him Jason in the suit…
Then he remembered why he had been tailling Mei in the first place. Bruce. What had he known, exactly?
“I’ll be there in twelve minutes,” he told her, voice dark.
“From your position it would be twenty,” she replied, and he knew she was frowning.
“Twelve minutes, Oracle,” he repeated, before turning his earpiece off. Despite knowing that it would definitely piss her off.
If Bruce had known that Marinette was Mei…
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took him eleven minutes to reach the Cave, and Barbara was impressed despite herself. She would never tell him, of course, or he would never shut up about it. Once he calmed down, at least.
“Jason, it’s not as serious as it seems,” she started, rolling her wheelchair to cut off his path. “He didn’t know.”
“He knows something,” Jason said, taking off his helmet and setting it on the seat of his bike. And Barbara very carefully didn’t stare at the tear track on his cheeks. Ignoring her, he walked around her and straight to Bruce. “You know something, and I want to know what.”
“Jason,” Bruce started, trying to stall him, but Jason didn’t let him have any words in.
“No. You know something, and it concerns Mei, I want to know what. Even if you thought her name was different, she is still my little sister.”
“I can’t share this information, Jason,” Bruce said tiredly, pressing on his eyes with his hand.
“Why not? She is my little sister—”
“You keep saying that,” Damian broke in, a confused frown on his face as he stared at the Batcomputer. “Yet, she didn’t ask for you.”
“What?” Jason choked off, eyes wide with surprise. And Barbara could see the disbelief there, too. He thought there was no way she didn’t ask for him.
“Here,” Damian said, putting the interview’s video on the screen.
~~~~
“You can’t keep me from Gotham!”
“Sweetie–”
“Don’t ‘sweetie’ me! I have to go back to Gotham! Annie is in Gotham!”
“Who is Annie?”
“Family.”
“Then tell us your name! We can find your family with your name, then we wi—”
~~~~
“Beside asking for this Annie from time to time, she didn’t say anything else for the next twenty minutes,” Damian continued, looking sincerely confused, while Jason was staring at the screen, in a daze. “She never asked for you.”
“She did,” Jason said softly, making them all look at him in surprise. He laughed softly, and Barbara couldn’t help but stare at him in amazement. She hasn't heard him laugh like that since… It’s been a long time. “I’m Annie.”
“What?” Damian looked only more confused, and she couldn’t even blame the poor kid, she wasn’t sure to follow Jason either.
Nobody acknowledged Dick and Tim’s arrival, who had probably been listening to everything through the comms anyway, waiting for Jason to continue.
“She called me Annie, growing up,” he said with a soft, amused smile, obviously thinking about this period of his life. “And I would call her Sandy.”
“Annie and Sandy? Seriously?” Tim exclaimed, just as he finished taking off his mask. He winced when everyone beside Jason turned to glare at him. He mouthed ‘what?’ at them, pouting, but Barbara could see that he already regretted his interruption.
“Yeah,” Jason said, thankfully not taking the remark badly. “Though, believe it or not, she called me that because she thought there was no way it would happen to any of us.”
“And Sandy?” Dick asked, seeing as Jason was in a surprisingly chatty mood.
“She did follow me around like a puppy,” Jason said with a smile and a shrug.
“How does that explain anything?” Damian said, making Barbara sharply remember how he was raised.
“It’s an old movie,” she told him simply, with a smile, not wanting him to think that she pitied him, or thought that he was an idiot for not knowing. “It’s really old, so I’m surprised Tim even saw it—”
“I saw the remake,” Tim cut off with half his mouth up in an insolent smile. Barbara only rolled her eyes.
“And it’s about an orphan girl, Annie, and her dog, Sandy,” she continued, as if Tim hadn't said anything. “Who is adopted by a rich man. Well, the girl is adopted, the dog really just follows along.”
“And she called you Annie because she thought it would never happen,” he said, turning toward Jason with a raised eyebrow.
“It’s a little more complicated but, essentially, yes,” he told him with a roll of his eyes. He opened his mouth to say more, but was cut off by a phone ringing loudly in the Cave.
Everyone turned slowly toward the sound, staring at Bruce. The man closed his eyes with a sigh, probably cursing his phone for putting him back in the spotlight, before taking out the offending object.
“It’s Gordon,” he said slowly, and he left nothing show on his voice or face, but Barbara knew he was feeling apprehensive.
“Then you better answer quickly, Master Bruce,” Alfred said, making everyone jump up in surprise. She shared a wide eyed look with Duke and Dick, but neither seemed to know when Alfred joined them, either.
“I—” Bruce said, trying very hard, and failing, to not let his own surprise show on his face. He sighed, and answered the phone. Looking up to see them all stare at him, he rolled his eyes and put the phone on speaker. “Hello Commissioner Gordon, how can I help you?”
“She is alive,” her dad said, not bothering with small talk. “You probably already know that, of course. I didn’t have a damn minute before now to call you.”
“I’m not sure to follow, Commissioner, I’m sorry,” Bruce said, and Barbara rolled her eyes. Her father was a good cop and he, at the very least, knew that Bruce worked closely with Batman.
“Batman knew you were looking for her too, Wayne, don’t take me for an idiot. There is now way Signal’s discovery didn’t reach your ears yet,” he told him, his tone sharp. “Mei Leyton is fucking alive. We’ve been looking for her for eight years, Wayne, and I found her by accident. Can you believe that?”
“It also took me by surprise,” Bruce said, looking at his phone and skillfully ignoring the surprised stare Jason was giving him. “I’m glad we finally have our answers.”
“Yeah,” her dad said softly, and Barbara winced at the words she knew would follow. “I’m sorry the kid is not here to see it, Wayne.”
“Me too, Commissioner, me too,” Bruce said after a short pause, eyes closed.
“I have to go now, Wayne, but, please, don’t crowd the kid,” her dad said after a minute of silence, he paused again, before adding softly. “I think she would appreciate it, if you took her to his grave.”
“I will be careful with her, Gordon,” Bruce said with a voice softer than she would expect from him. Then, he looked up, looking at Jason for the first time since the start of this conversation. “And I will let her know that she could visit Jason whenever she wants to.”
The conversation was wrapped up with a couple of goodbyes, Bruce not moving his eyes from Jason the entire time. They all stayed silent for a moment after Bruce hung up, at a loss of what to say.
“You looked for her,” Jason stated more than asked. “All this time, even after I died, you looked for Mei.”
“Of course I did,” Bruce said tiredly, sadly, sitting down on a chair, shoulder slumping slightly. It was the most emotion she had seen in him in a long while. Maybe even back before Dick left for Blüdhaven. “She was the only family you had left, I owed it to you to make sure she was safe.”
“Thank you,” Jason said softly, turning back to look at the screen.
Everyone stayed silent for a moment, letting all those emotions settle, before Jason suddenly coughed nervously.
“Ah, I should probably let you know that Mei recognized me as Red Hood,” he said bashfully, scratching the back of his neck nervously.
“What?!” Everyone, beside Alfred, exclaimed with different levels of shock and loudness.
Here's an idea you can do if you want. Marinette is Tim's younger sister that goes missing before he became robin. She somehow ends up in Paris with almost no memories. Only a few of her brother. Years later she is in Gotham (maybe a class trip or something. I will let you decide why she is there. When I think of this I imagine she is still in school.) and she ends up in an attack and gets seriously injured. You can then decided how Tim finds out.
Stay With Me Now
It never made the news.  He was stupid to believe that his parents really had when he told them.  It was as if she never existed.  His parents said that she was traveling with grandparents. Tim didn’t even know if they actually existed.  Said she was at boarding school.  Said she was on a humanitarian trip.  She was always somewhere else far away from Gotham.  And Tim knew that everything his parents said was a lie.  The rest of the world may have forgotten Marianne Drake, but Tim wouldn’t.  That was his little sister, and he would do everything he could to bring her back.
_________ When she opened her eyes, the first thing she noticed was that the whole room was white.  There was a beeping noise next to her.  And her head hurt.
“Tom, she's awake!”
A gentle voice said from the edge of wherever she was.
“Hello Marinette, we’re so happy you’re awake.”
The voice said.  Was that her name, she couldn’t remember.  It must be if the voice is calling her that though.
“Don’t worry, everything is going to be alright.  We were so worried about you after that car hit you, but the doctors said you were going to be okay.”
Marinette—that didn’t feel right, but her head hurt when she tried to think why that was, so she’d let it be for now— turned her head to side slightly and cracked her eyes open ever so slightly to look at the two people next to her.  There was a lady with short black hair and gray eyes, her skin was pale and looked very smooth.  Next to her was a man with chestnut brown hair and mustache, his face had more curves than the woman’s and was not as smooth looking.
“Sorry, who are you?”
The woman looked almost heartbroken, but she didn’t understand why.
“The doctors said this might happen.  Mon amor, do you remember what happened before you woke up here?”
The woman asked so softly.  Marinette shook her head slightly, but that was a mistake as everything began to spin slightly from the small movement making her feel a little queasy.  The woman nodded sadly.
“I see, it’s worse than I thought.  Marinette darling, on your way to school, you were hit by a car causing you to hit your head on the road.  The head injury was pretty bad, the doctors said that there was a possibility you might have amnesia, but we didn’t want to believe that it would happen to you.  Marinette darling, I’m your mother, Sabine, and this is your father, Tom.”
Marinette didn’t turn to look at them again, her head was still spinning a little and she didn’t want to risk throwing up.  A shudder went down her spine of even the thought of doing so in front of others, but she didn’t know why.
A few days later she was released from the hospital and went back to the bakery/apartment where apparently her and her family lived.  The place felt completely unfamiliar to her, just like her…parents.  But everytime she tried to understand why that was, her head began to hurt so badly that she would need to lay down for the rest of the day to make the pounding stop.  So, in order to stop the constant pain, she stopped trying to understand why her head was saying that everything around her was wrong.  She went along with everything, did what others said, kept busy in order to halt even the temptation to understand on a deeper level why nothing was right and why she was missing something very important.  When she did this, Tom and Sabine were much happier, her classmates would stay around her longer, and they would even invite her to events as long as she helped them with something!  That was familiar, that felt right!  Being left alone except when someone asked her to help them felt familiar and her head was singing at the normality of the actions.  Was that bad?  She didn’t dwell on it, in fact she just stayed on that path and let everything continue its course.
Often though her mind would wander anyways and she would remember bright blue eyes that looked like hers, but were more steely.  She would draw a young man with untidy black hair and a bright smile.  She would draw an outline of an unfamiliar city with a boy and mini her next to him taking pictures of dark shadows hidden in the background.  She even drew a big garden with the boy dangling upside down from a tree.  She giggled when she was done with that one, a feeling of childish glee running through her for reasons she didn’t fully understand.  She didn’t know who this boy was, but she felt so drawn to him.  So she kept drawing him in a bunch of different positions that made her laugh and smile.  Sometimes though, he would be sad or scared.  A few times when she drew him in a nice suit he would be stoic, and that made her feel weird and sad, so she stopped drawing him suits.  He looked nicer in comfortable clothing and nerdy t-shirts anyways.
Things rarely ever felt right in this city no matter how much she tries to convince herself otherwise.  Tom and Sabine were nice and were always very warm, but everytime she said they were her parents her brain felt all weird.  But at least she had the boy in her drawings, the one thing that could make everything feel right in her mind.
_________ Five years later
Marinette knew this wasn’t a good idea!  She shouldn’t have believed them!  Ever since Lila had come all she has done is make her life miserable, and she hadn’t even done anything to her!  She tried to make peace with the girl, she had even made her own dress for goodness sake!  But no, that wasn’t good enough because even after that she wouldn’t stop spreading lies about her.  And worst of all she threatened to lie about Tom’s and Sabine’s bakery!
Currently they were visiting Gotham for US and France friendship day because even though there were so many cons to coming here, Lila “knew the Wayne’s”, so they “had to”become here to the “Crime Capital of the World”.
They had been eating at a small dinner quite a bit away from their hotel, and when Marinette left to use the bathroom a bit before they were supposed to leave, they got up and left her.  She didn’t know exactly where she was, but from her surroundings she knew to keep her phone away and to make sure the taser she had bought at the airport here was clutched tightly in her hand.
Constantly she looked around her to make sure nobody was following her and looked into alleyways before she got too close to them.  This felt familiar, it felt right, and everything about this strange city didn’t feel so strange after all.  Unfortunately, despite her attempts at being cautious, she still wasn’t able to escape from the multiple pairs of hands that pulled her into one of the alleyways.  So tried to scream for help, but they covered her mouth and took the taser away from her before she could do anything.  The next thing she knew she was being slammed harshly against a wall with three filthy faces leering at her from above.  The scent of alcohol and cigarettes filled her senses and it took everything in her to keep the cough that was itching at her throat from escaping.
“Lookin Wha’ we go’ ‘ere.”
The man right in front of her drawled out.  There was a dark twinkle in his eye that made her shudder.  Not to mention that she couldn’t escape his breath which made her want to gag.  Her eyes darted side to side looking for an opening of some kind that she could use to escape.
“She’s pretty small.  Whatcha’ doin’ all by yourself girlie?”
The man on her right asked while taking a lock of her hair into his hands only to begin to fiddle with it.  Marinette glared up at the men and kicked the man in front of her in the shin.  He let go of her and while the others were in shock she tried to run for it.  She got only a few feet before she was hit in the head by something hard.  Her body hit the dirty pavement hard and her head began to throb in time with her racing heart.
“Tha’ wasn’ very nice little lady.”
The man she had kicked growled.  She tried to push herself up, but then there was a sharp stinging in her abdomen where one of the other men had just kicked her.  She tried to gasp for breath but all she could hear was her own heart and the clicking of metal against metal.  Tears poured down her cheeks and her head hurt.  She didn’t even notice when everything went silent, too silent.  All she could think about was bright blue eyes, a large mansion, a bright city on the rooftops, shadows, empty halls, cold parents, a flight, walking across the street, a car, it didn’t stop!  It was the people she saw earlier who were driving, they lived in the big manner with the boy, she lived with the boy!  Her head felt like it was going to explode!
“Miss!  Miss it’s okay.  They can’t hurt you ever again.”
There was a small reprieve from the pain where she could hear a gentle voice speak.  They were about a foot away and keeping their distance.  She appreciated that.  She opened her eyes—when had she closed them—and saw a man in red and black armor.  He had black hair with a streak of white and a red domino mask.
“Robin?”
Because she remembered looking at that face with her brother, SHE HAD A BROTHER!  Then the pain was back with full force.  She clutched her head hoping it would make the pain go away or at least lessen it, but no!  It got worse and worse and though she couldn’t hear herself doing it, she knew she was sobbing.  Something warm and solid was holding her and she quickly leaned against it because maybe that would take the pain away?!  But it never faded, never lessened.  She wanted her brother back!  Tim, where’s?  She hadn’t seen him in what…five years?  She wanted to go home, why wasn’t she home?  At some point she lost consciousness, the pain in her head too unbearable for her to process while awake.  But all she could think about was a boy with steely blue eyes and a goofy smile.
_________ Jason didn’t know what to do.  He had stopped three scumbags from hurting a girl who couldn’t be older than maybe 14, and then she’s screaming and clutching her head in pain.  He had noticed that there was a cut on her head she was bleeding from, but it didn’t look bad enough for this type of reaction.  He tried to comfort her from a distance but that didn’t seem to be doing much.  Then when he heard her whisper,
“Robin.”
He was silent himself and slightly in shock.  But then she started crying almost hysterically again and he had to do something.  He slowly approached her and carefully picked her up.  He was glad when she leaned into his chest and not away from it, but she wouldn’t stop crying.  Then she began to mumble,
“Tim-Tam….where’s Tim?  M-mother……F-Father, why?!  WHY?!  Home!  Tim, where’s b-big brother Tim!”
She was clutching at her head so tightly he had to remove and restrain her hands to keep her from hurting herself.  He felt a burn of rage at the mention of his replacement's name.  He doubted it was him though, she had an accent that wasn’t Bristol or Gothamite, more…French.  He was relieved when he finally reached his location.  He looked down and was both relieved and filled with anxiety when he saw the girl seemed to be unconscious.
“Leslie!  She needs some help.”
He called out as he entered through the back of the small clinic near Crime Alley.  Dr. Leslie quickly came in and examined the young girl in his arms with a nod.
“Follow me.”
Was all she said before she turned and headed towards one of the private rooms.  He quickly laid the girl on the gurney and gave his report of how he found her.  Leslie just nodded along as she began to clean and wrap the wound on her head and the scrapes on her hands.
“Thank you Red Hood.  She’ll be fine now,  she won’t be able to answer any questions till she’s awake.  I’ll let you know when that is.”
Jason gave a small nod and with one last glance at the sleeping girl he left back into the night.
As Jason ran across the rooftops his mind wandered back to the girl and the constant murder of “Tim”.  There was no way it could be true, afterall Timothy Drake was an only child…but then his mind wandered back to the galas.  He had seen at least once before, and now that he thought about it there was a small girl that followed the boy.  Then there was the whispering of how one of the children was always gone, doing something else, they never visited Gotham once even though they were very young.
He paused atop one of the taller apartments in Crime Alley and glared out into the night.  There are millions of Tim’s around the world, so why was he so set on believing she was talking about the stinking Replacement?!  Whatever, Leslie will let him know more about whatever happened later.  For now, he had a city to protect.
_________ When Marinette woke up, her head still throbbed slightly, but not as much as last night which was a reprieve.  She looked around the small white room that smelled like chemicals.  There was a soft beeping on her right and her throat felt scratchy.  Everything felt a little dizzy, and goodness this felt like déja vu.  The next thing she knew when she didn’t see Tom and Sabine sitting next to her was that someone had opened the door.  She was a rather tall lady with greying hair and wrinkled with age and stress, but she still held a soft bright smile.
“Hello, how are you feeling right now?”
She asked as she slowly approached Marinette and began to check her bandages and vitals.
“I’m feeling okay.  My head still hurts, but other than that.”
She nodded then asked,
“Do you remember what happened last night?”
Marinette was about to shake her head no, but stopped as everything began to flood her brain once more and all of the memories she lost filled her mind.  She sat up quickly only to fall back against the gurney as the world started to spin around her.  Thankfully Leslie had already prepared and placed a trash can in her lap and Marinette Marianne began to throw up.
“You need to be careful, you have a concussion.”
Leslie stated once she was done emptying her stomach that was practically empty already.  She handed Marianne a cup of water and once she finished asked,
“Now you don’t have to, but can you tell me your name and what happened last night?”
“My name is Marianne Janet Drake.  Last night I was walking back to the hotel my class was staying at after they had left me at the diner we were staying at and was attacked by three men.  I tried to get away, but they took my taser and pinned me to a wall.  When I found an opening I kicked the man in the center in the shin and made a run for it, but they caught up to me and hit me in the back of the head with…I think it was the back of my taser.  I fell and hit my head against the pavement and before I could move one of the others kicked me in the stomach.  I blacked out a bit after that because my head was hurting so badly at the time with memories, and the next thing I knew was Robin was there in a different outfit and he saved me.  Then the pain came back and the next thing I know is I woke up here.”
The woman just stared at her with a neutral face.  She looked back down at her clipboard and finished writing something before looking back at her.
“What do you mean memories came rushing back?”
“I travelled to Paris, France with my parents, and got hit by a car.  I’ve been an amnesiac for five years now.”
She nodded.
“How old are you?”
“14.”
“Do you have any other relatives?”
“Janet and Jack Drake, Timothy Drake, and I honestly don’t know if I have any other relatives.”
“Alright.  Thank you Marianne, I’ll be back soon.”
And with that Leslie left the room.  She needed to make a phone call.  Marianne laid back against the bed and stared at the ceiling trying to reorganize her thoughts and memories as she tried to sort out why Tom and Sabine had lied to her all of this time and why her real parents would hit her in the first place.
_________ About two hours later the door to Marianne’s room burst open and Marianne quickly sat up to come face-to-face with steel blue eyes that held a deep familiar worry in them.  They stared at each other for a long time, neither knowing how much time actually passed when he whispered,
“Bean?”
“Tim-Tam?”
She said just as quietly, tears forming in the siblings' eyes.  He raced towards her and scooped her into his arms as he kissed the top of her head.
“I’ve missed you so much.  Don’t worry, you don’t have to leave again.  I’ve got you, I’ve got you, I’ve got you.”
Marianne sobbed against his chest as she clutched into her older brother.  He should be 16 now, he’s grown a little too.  He carefully maneuvered them so that he was laying against the bed and she was curled up atop him, the two siblings holding onto each other as they cried.
“Robin saved me.”
She whispered,
“He brought me here which led me to you.”
Tim placed another kiss to the back of her head and whispered,
“Really?  That’s so amazing.  I’ll have to thank him the next time I see him.  I owe him a favor for this wonderful miracle he’s brought me.”
Marianne giggled softly through her tears and rested her head under his chin, just like when they were younger.
“I missed you!  I mi-missed you so much Tim-Tam.  I couldn’t forget you, I couldn’t stop drawing you.”
Tim smiled gently as more tears fell like a waterfall down his cheeks,
“Good.  Because I never stopped looking for you.  Now you’re back, and you don’t ever have to leave again.  You can stay with me now.”
“I’d like that.”
She whispered as her eyes began to slowly close and exhaustion took hold and she fell asleep in the safety of her brother's hold.
Angel with Blue eyes
Damian lost a bet with his brothers and has to work as a bartender for a month. It was more of an annoyance than anything else. Damian got through the month with very few incidents, until the last day.
Damian's last day as a bartender was like the others, boring. That was until a black haired women walks in. The women has bright blue eyes that seem as if they're glowing. Her presence alone demands attention. As Damian scanned the room, he saw that everyone's attention was on the women.
The women walked over to him, sat down, and ordered an Angel shot with lime...
That made Damian freeze for a split second.
Damian was taught some helpful phrases in order to be a bartender, even just for a month.
-A Neat Angel shot means escort to vehicle.
-An Angel shot over ice means call an Uber or some form of safe travel.
-An Angel shot with lime... Call the police.
Damian poured water into a shot glass with a slice of lime. He handed it to the women, then exuded himself to take a phone call.
Damian called commissioner Gordon, he had no idea why the women wanted the police called but figured better safe then sorry. When Gordon answered the phone, Damian simply said that a women ordered an Angel shot with lime, he then told Gordon the location of the bar before hanging up.
The police arrived at the bar a couple of minutes later. They asked everyone to leave. The women with bright blue eyes stayed seated. As the police walked towards the women she collapsed, falling out of her seat.
When to women collapsed her coat moved, exposing new and old scars. Some of the scars were currently bleeding.
An ambulance was called to take the women to the hospital. After the women was stable, the hospital pulled up her medical files. The nurse saw the women’s file, freezing before gestured for the police to come take a look.
The women’s name?
Marinette Dupain-Cheng, age 21, a missing person for the last 8 years, presumed dead
______________________
Angel shots are a real thing. If you feel unsafe at a bar, go ahead and order this form your bartender.
Hawkmoth happens when Marinette is 10-13
Marinette is kidnapped into the guardian temple for “proper” training.
I am now going to write this, but Im stuck on something. Please go vote on my poll other wise the storyline is going nowhere.
Into The Unknown, Part 9
First
Previous
It was kind of weird how quickly they got acclimated to civilian life.
Sure, Marinette often came out of the day with way too much energy, but they could burn off most of it by sparring. A ten to twenty minute session a day (excluding warm ups and cool downs, which added another thirty minutes or so) was enough to maintain their physiques and get rid of the uncomfortable energy that came with the sudden loss of constant danger in their lives.
(Not that this Gotham wasn’t dangerous, but it was… markedly less so. The Rogues Gallery didn’t exist in this world, what with Batman not existing, so the only thing that they really had to fear was mob activities and the occasional mugging. As long as they kept their noses clean and never stopped to tell a person the time, there was no reason for them to be scared.)
Other than that… it was almost too easy to get used to the new life that they lived.
Marinette woke up first in the mornings for work and would take care of Damian while she got ready. Tim had baby duty for the nine hours a day she was at work and commuting, so it was the least she could do.
And, really, he wasn’t all that difficult now that she was starting to get the hang of the whole baby thing.
Damian was trying to mimic her -- anticipatory socialization, she was pretty sure it was called (Or was it imprinting? Observational learning? Damn it, her psych major was not coming through for her right then). She found it cute and it was completely normal so she was perfectly fine encouraging it: she had gotten him mini versions of all of her makeup brushes.
One time, though, this backfired on her: he had dipped one of the cheap makeup brushes she’d gotten him into her makeup when she wasn’t looking and applied it to his face.
Marinette glanced down -- he had been quiet for too long, never a good thing -- and gasped. “Dami, you can’t whitewash yourself!”
Damian looked up at her, eyes wide with confusion.
She tried not to pout because he might take it wrong. Why must her best jokes always come to her when no one was around to hear?
“Don’t touch the powder stuff, please. It's not for babies, it's for grown ups.”
Damian frowned and looked down at his brush. She gently took it from him and worked at getting the makeup out.
When she gave it back to him he still seemed a little sad.
She sighed and gave him a short hug. “I’m not mad. I promise. It’s just… not your color!”
(The real reason was that makeup is very expensive, but kids don’t really understand money so she needed an excuse.)
Damian was still a little pouty. She didn’t know what to do. Damn. She supposed that served her right. She shouldn't have dared to think that she was getting the hang of having the whole ‘having a baby’ thing.
She sighed and looked down at him for a few moments, thinking. He was sitting in the high chair they kept him in when both of them were too busy to hold him. Usually he would be swinging his legs back and forth like a toddler -- probably because he was a toddler -- but now he was remarkably still, green eyes wide as he looked up at her.
She glanced at the time. Damian had woken her up early that morning, so she had extra time to get ready…
Marinette pulled her phone from her pocket and checked the internet.
… hm. Makeup could be toxic to babies. Good to know.
She grabbed one of her makeup wipes and scrubbed it from his face. She’d make sure to tell Tim so he could look out for any rashes the kid might get.
Then, she pulled out a comb and started brushing the tiny curls on Damian’s head. There wasn’t much, so it was mostly just dragging against his scalp, but the kid seemed pleased so she kept doing that for a few minutes.
At one point, he tried to take the comb from her. She allowed it, figuring he wanted to try and brush his own hair, but then he reached for her.
She leaned down to take him out of the chair, she was mostly done getting ready anyways, but instead he started trying to brush her hair.
… oh.
She felt, strangely, like crying. Her kid -- sorry, this kid -- was just so cute.
… but she didn’t want to mess up her hair...
He made a vague whining sound and she was weak.
She could always fix her hair on the train or something, she supposed.
She hesitantly leaned down so he could brush her hair. “Fuck it? I guess?”
“Fuck it,” Damian said, giving a short nod.
She groaned internally. “I’m actually going to have to stop swearing, aren’t I?”
“Fuck it!” Damian said again, louder this time.
Her lips twitched. “You’re so right, Dami. Who cares about a few little swears?”
“I do,” said Tim, who was apparently standing in the doorway.
She yelped. She probably would have flinched away if Damian hadn’t managed to make a giant knot in her hair in the few seconds that she had let him touch it.
She turned and sent Tim a weak smile. “You’re up early.”
He rolled his eyes. “Please stop teaching him swears.”
“I mean… it’s kind of funny, though.”
“It’s not.”
Marinette groaned overdramatically and turned to look at Damian. “He’s such a stick in the mud, amiright?”
“Sti-in-mu,” Damian said, nodding.
Tim huffed. “I’m starting to think he likes you better.”
“As he should,” Marinette said. She picked up the baby and nuzzled her nose against his. “Who’s a smart baby? You are!”
Damian giggled and tried to nuzzle her back.
~
Tim hummed as he went around the apartment, sweeping the floors. He and Marinette had come to a kind of unspoken agreement: he would do the cleaning, and she would do the cooking. It was only fair, since Tim’s standards for cleanliness were higher than hers and she was the only one out of the three people there that was physically capable of cooking an edible meal.
(Yes, he was aware that he was comparing his cooking skills to that of a baby. It was accurate, okay?)
Damian crawled along after him. He was trying to help, Tim was pretty sure, swatting the floor behind where Tim was cleaning...
Tim smiled. Maybe he should get the kid some fake cleaning supplies like Marinette had done with all of her makeup brushes. Would he like that? Only one way to find out, he supposed. He found the grocery list and wrote it down.
When he turned back to where he had left Damian -- which, he reminded himself, he shouldn’t be doing, because the kid was surprisingly fast when it came to trying to get himself killed -- and found the kid…
Holy shit.
He was walking.
Tim watched with a bright smile as Damian struggled to his feet and took a few steps towards him.
It didn’t last long. Damian had only really managed about three steps before he fell back to his knees and crawled the rest of the way. But…
Tim made a slightly embarrassing squealing noise in the back of his throat and leaned down, scooping the baby up in his arms and hugging him close. He couldn’t seem to wipe the smile off of his face.
“Look at you! Walking! Oh my god! Oh my god oh my god oh my god!”
Damian was blinked up at him in wide-eyed confusion.
Tim leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the top of the kid’s head and refused to pull back until he had calmed down a little.
He smiled down at his younger brother, who looked delighted at the attention but also very confused as to what was going on.
He looked around until he found Kaalki, who had been on his phone doing… horse things? God things? Who cares?
“Please tell me you took a video of that.”
“Nope. I did get a picture of you kissing his forehead, though.”
Tim huffed a little. “Delete that.”
“Too late. Already sent it to Marinette.”
Even this wasn’t enough to dampen his mood.
And Tim knew that the fact that Damian was walking had almost nothing to do with him, but he was proud, damn it. Or maybe the better way of saying it was that he was happy for the kid? He didn’t know, he had always been terrible with emotions. It was a good emotion, though, that much he was sure of.
He kissed Damian’s forehead again and smiled when the baby giggled at him and reached out, smushing his cheeks in his hands.
“Hello,” Tim struggled to say with the baby hands pressing in on his face.
“Nano,” Damian said.
“Close enough,” he said. “Want to watch some TV to celebrate?”
Damian nodded vigorously. Tim wondered, vaguely, if the kid understood what he was saying or if he just kind of gave answers when he knew that Marinette and Tim were asking him things.
Didn't matter. Tim would put on that one weird show with the talking cat that Damian liked and they could watch that until Marinette got home.
And, when she did, she practically ran over. She didn’t even take off her shoes, a sure sign that she was excited.
Damian looked away from the TV and smiled. “Mar-ree.”
Marinette’s mouth dropped open for a second… and then curled into a bright smile.
“You’re so… cute!” She cooed. “Yes! Hi! Good to see you, Dami!”
Tim pouted, slightly jealous.
She seemed to notice because she stuck her tongue out at him. “You got to see his first steps and I didn’t. I deserve this.”
He disagreed. The pout on his face remained until Damian saw and twisted around in his lap, leaning up and wrapping his arms around his neck in a kind of hug. Because it was kind of hard to stay sad when he was doing that.
He hugged the kid back for a few moments and then drew back, planting a kiss on his nose.
Marinette hesitated.
“Can I… have him for a few minutes? I want to see him walk.”
Tim considered this.
Then he smiled. “Only if I can take a video.”
“I would have made you do it, anyways,” she said.
Tim chuckled softly and handed the baby over so they could take the video.
~
She slipped into the apartment after a long day of work.
Tim was fluffing the pillows, apparently out of apartment to clean.
Damian looked up from the pillow he was hitting at the sound of the door clicking closed, and he seemed to light up. He grabbed Tim’s hand with one hand for his attention and pointed at her excitedly with the other.
“Nano! Yanzur! Mar-ree!”
“Yeah, that’s Mari,” Tim agreed.
Marinette flexed her feet now that they were out of the god-forsaken heels that she had been wearing.
“Hi, Dami. How was your day?” She asked.
Damian didn’t understand the question and certainly didn’t know enough words to respond, but he seemed sated by the acknowledgement of his existence. He slowly slid off of the couch and started his way over to her.
Marinette smiled faintly, amused. She looked over at Tim while she waited for him to get to her.
“So… he told you to look at me, that I get… but what is a ‘Nano’?”
“That’s what he’s calling me now, I think,” Tim said, slightly flushed.
She blinked. “That… isn’t even close to your name.”
“I know,” he said, shrugging helplessly.
Her lips twitched. “Maybe he’s calling you short.”
Tim threw the pillow he had been fluffing at her.
She let it hit her -- it was a pillow, it wasn’t like it would hurt -- and then stuck her tongue out at him. “Don’t blame me! I’m but an innocent bystander in this! He’s the one that did it!”
Damian tugged on the fabric of her shirt. She looked down, a grin still on her face. He made grabby hands and she obliged with ease, picking him up and nuzzling her nose against his.
Then, her eyes sparkled with mirth.
“Tell me, Dami, is Tim short?”
Damian looked between the two of them. Marinette was nodding and Tim was shaking his head vigorously.
“... shor!”
Marinette burst into a fit of giggles while Tim groaned.
“I hate you.”
Her amusement didn’t die down in the slightest. “Oh, if you hate me, then I guess I’m only making food for Dami and I. Hope you didn’t eat all the leftovers for lunch today...”
“Wait, Mari, let’s talk about this --.”
Hi! I just wanted to ask if you had any maribat angst fics you could recommend?
Maribat Angst Recommendations
My first request! How exciting! Now the angst in these aren't much (except the third one), might make a part 2 when I dig through all the posts I've liked. For now, this is what I've gathered.
Siblings don’t shake hands, siblings gotta hug! by @timinette-is-best
Family Doesn’t Run Away, Family Cuddles
Friends Don’t Move On, They Stay Together
Tim hesitated a little but nodded silently and gripped his hands together.  Marinette wanted to scream, because of course he had abandonment issues.  She was going to kill whoever hurt her —she didn’t know who was older, she’d have to ask— brother in such a way.
“Tim, I promise that I will be back, and I’m not trying to get away from you.  I want to get to know you, I just need to take care of this, okay?”
Tim could feel tears stinging at the back of his eyes at her words.  How long had he been waiting for someone to say that to him?  That they weren’t going to run from him, that they would stay, that they actually would come back?
“Okay.”
Useful by @soulmate-game
Part 2
She had brought him to an abandoned area far from any activity, where a body would take ages to find. She had then disarmed herself of her only weapon, her magic suit, and had gotten on the ground in total submission.
She had purposely given him the perfect setting to kill her, where there would be no witnesses and plenty of time before her body would be found for him to escape. That realization hit Damian square the chest, leaving him breathless for a moment.
“I am not here to kill anybody,” he reiterated, his voice noticeably much gentler than before.
Day and Night by @unmaskedagain
“I think I’m doing both,” Marinette answered honestly. Her throat dry, and tears burning in her eyes. “Running away from everything, and still doing the right thing by leaving a bad situation.”
 Tim nodded. He was in the same boat. “Where you coming from?” Though he figured France from her accent.
“Paris. And you?”
“Gotham.”
“No one waiting for you?” Marinette asked. He shook his head. “Me either. Aren’t we a pair?”
A Moment Too Late by @justcourttee
Part 2
The next time she would contact him would be her last. She tried to reach out, ask him if he was okay, but the sentiment only fueled his rage.
“Don’t you get it? I never wanted this bond! I begged you mercilessly to leave it alone. I begged you to shut up, but you just couldn’t could you? I lost everything because of you, you hear me Marinette? If you just would’ve shut your damn mouth, I would still be able to see my mother. I hope you never use this bond again, I never want to hear from you again.”
There was no response, but it didn’t bother him. This was what he wanted for so many years, for her to never utter a sound to him again. It was a blessed day, one filled with silence as he entered Wayne Manor for the very first time.
Remember some chapters are longer than others (个_个)
New idea!!! Could you write a story where Mari and Tim are full-blooded siblings except Mari was taken away from the Drakes. Mari would be Dick's age in this. The Drake's finally pass away so Bruce goes to adopt Tim but he's having trouble because Marinette is doing the same. It's a custody battle. Tim is confused because he doesn't know Mari (she was taken away before she was born and CPS wasn't dealing with that family again) but Mari knows about him. Maybe Dick/Mari?
I have a feeling I took this in a different direction than you meant for it to be, but I hope you still like it :) @elements1999
Tim’s Decision
There were two things that Timothy Jackson Drake was sure of.
One, that he had never seen Dick so flustered before in his life. The poor guy was tripping over his own feet, stumbling into the court hallway as if he had been drinking all morning, his face resembling something close to the apple Bruce forced him to eat for breakfast.
And the second, well, he was sure he had never met someone as persistently, annoyingly, upbeat as Dick Grayson until seconds ago when she reached out her hand to introduce herself.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I’m sorry we have to meet under these circumstances, Timothy. This isn’t my first time reaching out, but it certainly is my first time getting through. Maybe after this, we can grab a bite to eat, get to know each other?”
Tim slightly withdrew his hand, reaching out to steady a swaying Dick. He wanted to ask him what could’ve warranted this behavior from him, but he wasn’t sure he was prepared to hear the answer.
“Miss Dupain-Cheng-”
“Please, call me Marinette! I’m not married, nor am I a middle-aged woman. I’m only 21 after all. You’re 14, right Timothy?”
“If I call you by your name, call me Tim. Timothy sounds like a rich brat.”
Marinette’s giggle earned a small smile from the boy. He had no idea who she was, but her presence was soothing and he didn’t feel any immediate danger. Besides, she wasn’t the first person to approach him in the past week. News of his parent’s death traveled very quickly and many people attempted to adopt him in hopes that his fortune would be theirs.
Bruce was quick to wave them off, offering to adopt Tim himself, but before Tim could even think about accepting, CPS contacted Bruce with the proposal from one Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
“I hadn’t realized that Bruce Wayne had caught your attention. I really want to make sure that you are able to have a regular childhood or at least some resemblance of a few normal years. If you think Bruce is a better option for you, I promise I’ll pull out right now, but if you have any doubts at all, I want to let you know that I want to fight for you, Tim.”
“I haven’t made any decisions yet and considering Bruce let me meet with you, I have to assume you’re not after my parent’s fortune.”
Marinette’s smile tightened at the mention of the fortune or was it his parents? He couldn’t tell. She was definitely holding something back, but they had just met and he wasn’t in any position to be pressuring her for some answers. What he was in the position to do was knock some sense into a now drooling Dick Grayson.
“Knock it off will you, you’re heavy and gross. You’re making a fool of the Wayne name and aren’t you supposed to be my guardian today?”
Dick muttered out something that sounded like an okay, but if Tim was honest, he wasn’t sure it was anything more than a few syllables to lower his guard.
“This is what Bruce considers a capable guardian? I’m not sure I trust him as far as I could throw him. What can it do?”
Marinette reached forward, poking Dick’s cheek, enough force to snap him out of whatever daze he had been in the past hour.
“Dick Grayson-Wayne ma’am, a pleasure to meet you.” Instantly he bowed, his hand extended as if he were waiting for something that wouldn’t come.
“Mhmm, so you are Bruce’s ward? You look like you could be his blood child. Does he have a thing for dark hair and light eyes? Creepy.”
Dick’s hand clutched his chest as if he had been struck directly in his core. Marinette turned her attention from him and back to where Tim stood.
“Anyways, I believe we mentioned lunch earlier. I’ve already submitted my application to CPS and after this formal meeting, you’re free to meet up with me whenever you would like as long as a third party comes with us. Can you think of anyone you want to come with us?”
Tim glanced to the side where he could feel Dick’s puppy eyes boring into him. He wouldn’t be his first choice but if it came down to him of Jaime, he was pretty sure he had a better chance of reigning in Dick.
“Do you mind if Dick comes with us?”
Marinette’s smile was shaken with uncertainty as if she was thinking of protesting but didn’t want to overstep any boundaries. Tim felt terrible putting her in the position but he was sure that Dick was her best chance given his options. “Of course not, where would you like to go?”
The lunch moved smoothly with Tim learning so much about her. She was originally from the Gotham foster system herself, but a young couple who couldn’t have kids adopted her at a younger age, moving her to Paris with them. She attended the equivalent of middle and high school over there where she met many lifelong friends. Starting late in her middle school years, she upstarted a fashion business where she had several big-name clients months into her start-up. Now she made personal designs, but many were taken care of by her team. She only stitched a very few commissions for close personal friends.
She was remarkable, someone who truly started from nothing. His parents did something similar as did Bruce’s. It was something he wanted for himself, something he wasn’t sure he could ever achieve with either his or Bruce’s fortune.
The custody battle was put on hold at Tim’s request. He was really intrigued by Marinette and Bruce pressuring him to take his time and really think over his choices finally led him to that decision. However, no matter how much Bruce tried to be a neutral party in the matter, Tim could feel the strain it put on their work relationship.
The more he saw Marinette, the more mess-ups occurred on patrol. Bruce would constantly tread into Tim’s area, always dropping in on his battles. It was as if he lost all trust in Tim as if he was trying to rely less on him, trying to go back to doing things on his own.
It was so frustrating. No matter how many times he told Bruce that he could still be Robin no matter who he chose, it seemed to mean nothing to him. He continually waved him off, claiming to have no idea what he was talking about.
A month after he met Marinette, Tim snuck out for the first time, begging her to meet him at a coffee shop near her hotel.
“Tim, this is dangerous. If CPS finds out we meet behind Bruce’s back, it could nullify my application.”
“I know, I know.” His head dropped to the table, buried in his arms trying to suffocate his frustration. “I just needed to get away from all of them. I think the fact that I consider you a serious option really upsets Bruce. It’s not that I don’t consider him a serious option as well, it’s just-he’s just-”
Tim let out a sigh, slowly sitting back up unsure where his thoughts were taking him.
“Tim,” Marinette reached across the table, laying her hand on his arm. “if this is too stressful for you, I can pull out of this.”
Her touch was so gentle, so soothing. It felt like the mother he never had, the kind of mother he yearned for but never realized. He really didn’t want her to leave his life just because he couldn’t give up being Robin.
“I just feel so selfish,” his vision started to blur, Marinette’s figure coming in and out of focus. “I want to keep the life I’ve made for myself here, but I also don’t feel like I can grow the way I want to under Bruce’s supervision.”
Marinette didn’t say anything for a moment, she just allowed him to cry, her thumb moving in small circles on his arm. Tim reveled in the feeling, reveled in the silence. He hadn’t had this in a while, he hadn’t had comfort for as long as he could remember. Even at his parent’s funeral, people just commented on how strong he was and how smart he was and told him he would be just fine. Not once did anyone try to hug him or ask if he was okay. They just assumed.
Everyone always just assumed.
“Tim, I haven’t been 100% honest with you since I met you. I didn’t want it to mess with your decision, but I think it’s time you knew.”
“I already know.” Tim moved his arms from her touch, his heart throbbing from the loss of touch. “I did my research on you, especially considering how Bruce let me meet you so quickly. You’ve done a lot of work to bury it, but the Will mentioned you, or at least your old name.”
Marinette’s smile was tight, her eyes as watery as his.
“Is that what’s holding you back from making the decision you want to make?”
Tim wanted to deny that he had no clear choice, but that was a lie he had been feeding himself. He wanted to stay with Bruce, in Gotham. His life was here, his friends were here, his passions were here. The only thing that wasn’t, was her.
“I want Bruce to be my official guardian. I want to be Tim Drake-Wayne.” Marinette nodded, understanding pouring from her and crashing into him. He felt like all the stress from the past month had been pushed out and replaced with relief. “But I really did want to get to know you, I didn’t want to make a decision because you would be out of my life for good. I’ve already lost you once, CPS took you didn’t they?”
“Right before mom became pregnant with you. I’m sure it happened to you too, but I was only six. They left me alone, not even a butler or maid to watch after me. They tried to argue with CPS that I was a competent child who could handle groceries and looking after myself but they didn’t buy it. My existence hadn’t even been released to the public so they didn’t take it too hard, losing me that is. But you, they immediately brought you into the limelight, almost like a challenge to CPS, I’m assuming that’s why they didn’t get involved for you no matter how many times my parent’s called and reported them.”
Tim couldn’t help the chuckle that bubbled out. It seemed to have shocked Marinette too as she gave way to her own giggle threatening to spill.
“Marinette, can I ask you something selfish?”
“Of course, mon frère.” Her hand reached back across the table, gripping his tightly as if pressing him to ask the question he dreaded most.
“Will you still be apart of my life? I’m not asking you to move to Gotham, but maybe a monthly trip? A weekly dinner? Something? I just don’t want to lose you again.”
The tears that had been pooling in her eyes finally slipped free, her smile blinding.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“Bruce, Marinette is coming over for game night tonight!”
“Marinette?” Dick’s head popped around the corner, the red plastered by the mere mention of her name. It sickened Tim. “But I have patrol tonight! Bruce can’t the police do their jobs for one night!”
Bruce chuckled as he set up the table, a stack of every board game imaginable piled in the middle.
“I suppose you can push it back from 11 to 5 to 2 to 5. After all, I’m not heartless.”
Tim let out an involuntary groan as he slipped into the couch, wishing it would swallow him whole.
“Whose side are you on here Bruce? She’s already your honorable daughter. Do you really need her to be part of your legal family that bad?”
“I haven’t the slightest clue what you mean.” His smirk only made Tim want to fold in on himself even more.
“Bruce, if you’re gonna set me up, can it at least be with Tim’s more attractive siblings? Like what about that Jason guy? Or Barbara Gordan?” Tim popped up in his seat, a smile beaming from ear to ear.
“Marinette’s here!” He waved her over to the seat beside him before a certain older lovebird could intervene.
“I am attractive! Why won’t you accept me Marinette?” Dick wiped away fake tears as he fell dramatically to the floor by her feet.
Tim could feel his heart overflowing for the first time in years. His life felt so fulfilled, like all of the missing pieces finally found a place. As the night continued on, only one thought stayed prominent in his mind.
He couldn’t be happier with his decision.
