Jolene's Emergency Vet Visit

So for those of you who gave followed me (and maybe seen the update) you'll know Salem has been missing for almost 6 months.

She was my ESA, and given my declining mental health, I didn't have much choice but to get a new ESA.

Enter miss Jolene Macchiato L. Whom I adopted almost two months ago and have whole heartedly decided to keep after realizing just how well we mesh.

You may also know I've been in the hospital the last few days - staying with my roommate who was admitted. I've been coming home to feed the cats and (unsuccessfully) treat them for ear mites. My new roommate was dog sitting and he brought fleas and ear mites into our home.

During this time, Jolene went to the bathroom on my bed multiple times. I at first chalked it up to stress and was told to keep an eye on here. Less than a day of being back from the hospital and her stool is light in color, runny, and most terrifyingly, has blood in it.

This is no longer an issue of stress, but could be a major intestinal/stomach problem when mixed with her inability to wait and use her litterbox. On top of that, she was running around like she was in pain, or something was wrong prior to going.

My second job is not a sure thing yet - it has been more than two weeks since the company reached out to me - and I have been looking for more. The money I thought I won was more a scam to get me down to the car dealership (which by the way, I hated as is because of the older man behaving increasingly grossly and inappropriate towards me).

My funding for Salem has stopped at this point - I have done every physical thing I can to find and bring her home. And now I need to focus on the new feline in my care.

I am taking Jolene to the vet tomorrow and using my new credit card - but there are limited funds and paying it back is my current concern when I have payments taking up to the 1,000s combined due these next two months.

I am setting it to $550 for now (because they take a portion), but the price my change depending on what the vet says and what is wrong.

I know she still need to get treated for ear mites ($300 on it's own) because the current medications I've been using are not working."

Jolene as far as I have been told is two years old, though she is very small for her age. She is a sweet heart though she was likely on the streets for a most of not all her life before she was taken to the shelter and I adopted her a month later.

She is a sweet cat that just wants to check and make sure that you're okay. She'll cuddle. She doesn't meow but she does trill and sound like yoshi.

She just wants to make friends with everyone. And if you're not petting her enough then the grabs your hand and brings it right to her face as she stands on her back legs.

This is the last fundraiser I'm making. Ask anyone I know in real life and they'll tell you just how much I despise asking for help. I want to be able to do things on my own. But until I get one bite from the hundreds (literally) of jobs I've applied to as a secondary then I'm at a loss. I can't afford to wait and save up for this vet Visit - not when her health is on the line.

UNDER THE CUT

We went to the vet today.

TL:DR - she is on medications for the next two weeks, roughly. She did very good at the vet and was very brave. $500 was close, it will come out to be roughly $700 all together after ear mite treatment; we are holding off for now until the other cat in the house can be treated or they will just jump between them, which gives some more time to get there funds. But the over the counter medications are not strong enough to fight the infestation, and depending on severity, it could lead to long term health problems.

So I changed it from $550 -> $750 (again, because they take a processing fee). I also added in there roughly $200 that had been sent from PayPal and Venmo to give a more accurate show off current raised funds.

(Straight up, I almost cried because in the right two months that I have had her this was the first time she had crawled into my lap to lay down and cuddle with me.)

I am seriously so saddened to realize people have used my name and my cat to steal money from some of you. This is crazy, never, ever did I think that my Poppy would be used negatively.

Let’s give a little rundown of who we are. I’m Michelle, a 30-something year old married mama to 3 skin kittens, and 3 fuzzy kittens. One of my skin kittens is an adult, the other two are rapidly approaching attempting to leave the nest. I am disabled, physically and mentally which leads to emotionally, too. My fuzzy kittens help a lot with that.

2 summers ago, a friend texted me asking if I wanted a kitten. Of course I did. Then I found out she was a feral kitten that her mama had left behind because her one back leg was missing a foot, so she couldn’t climb and jump like the rest of the kittens were, and she was getting too heavy to carry in her mouth. That kitten now only have 3 legs, and is my Lucky baby.

Come early February of the next year, I saw on a friend’s aunts rescue site two of the most gorgeous little calico kittens I had ever seen. I claimed them before Valentine’s Day, even though I wouldn’t be able to get them until after Mother’s Day since they were slow to grow. They were attached at the hip, there was no way I could get one and not the other. Those were my Poppy girl and Millie moon.

That’s how I ended up with my fuzzy kittens. They are the best fuzzy kittens I have ever met. All 3 of them have a different job in calming me and my middle daughter down while in emotional crisis. Poppy is and has always been that calming rumble that you try to concentrate on instead of everything else that is happening. And it works more than anyone would believe.

Poppy is sick. My go fund me has all the explanations and updates you could ever need; I even have to add the email with the vet when she gets a chance to email back to me. I have endless pictures and videos to show she is my little love.

Please, if you can, share this post anywhere and everywhere, across all forms of social media. My follower numbers are so low, I’m surprised it’s not a negative number. I know a bunch of you got scammed, and I’m sorry. I really am. If I could make it better, I would.

Myself, I’ve even cut back some of my less essential but still needed medications so I have the money to get Poppy the treatment she deserves. I just need my baby girl to be better. It’s time sensitive because we honestly don’t know how much time she has left with her red blood cell count being in the low 10s percent wise (I think it was 13-14% last time, and it should be above 35). I am extremely transparent in what I show you all because if you are helping pay for it, I figure you have a right to see where the care is going and what it’s being used for.

We are trying to get the maximum amount of funding so we can get all the testing done because the liver and spleen are just as important as the bone marrow biopsy, but we will not look a gift horse in the mouth. Whatever we get it, it’s another cent that we didn’t have to scrounge around to find, another minute off the ever clicking clock.

hey all, i hate to do this but my cats sick and i have zero money to my name now. I paid for his vet visit last night with all I had, i have disabilities that make it really hard to look for work and its been a struggle getting knocked back from job interviews one after the other so that's why im extremely low on funds.

Cat info: billy boy ate a couple cupcakes and their paper liners, so I went to the emergency 24 hr vet bc I was so worried thinking he'd eaten more. so far he's just having some diarrhoea and is kneading on my chest but the vet discovered that he has a heart murmur and so we couldn't use an injection to induce vomiting at risk of heart attack. Vet told me she's pretty sure he has heart disease but I need a heart ultrasound to confirm it. I dont know how much this costs yet, I'll know later today, but it could be up to $600 and I need his blood drawn too which is around $200.

Last Tuesday, this little gremlin:

...Had a mass of things she should not have eaten surgically removed from her intestine. Another six hours without surgery and she would have died.

She spent two nights at the emergency vet, and my household now has $6,000 worth of debt about it. (Down from 8k, thank you thank you thank you.)

@taraljc is a freelance graphic designer, I am a freelance copywriter, and our combined income is not great.

And, unfortunately, the nature of the debt makes it particularly imperative to pay it down quickly. It is of a nature that makes everyone's lives absolutely miserable until the debt is gone.

The number on the GFM is also not representative; as we're reusing an existing GFM from last year for out of spoons reasons. Housing insecurity, amirite?

Hi, I decided to make a post about Loki that’s much more organized.

Here he is! This is Loki. He is my actual baby. We love each other so much, and have for 10 years.

On June 19th Loki had a seizure. Now vet bills are skyrocketing for his care.

Here’s proof of his initial visit payment being taken from my bank account.

$1,200 for Ocean State Veterinary.

Loki has been having partial seizures for a month now, and here is an updated view of his seizure log.

That’s 14 partial seizures and 1 full seizure in the span of a month.

My little guy is really suffering; and we, his family, are all suffering too because of how much we love him.

He had a consultation for an MRI, which was $451 (making the cost $1,651 in total).

We are going to go through with the MRI to find out the cause of his seizures and to see how else we can help him. That’s a whopping $3,000, making the total we need to pay $4,651.

this is princess nova. she's the best cat i've ever had. she literally trained herself to be an emotional support animal for me. she's one of the few things keep me sane right now.

she's had eye problems for a while, but now she also has a respiratory thing going on.

the vet wants $800 USD for testing, including an x-ray, to make sure her respiratory illness isn't related to her eye problems and that there's not a deeper issue going on than just a cold. that's in addition to the $340 USD the feline ophthalmologist wants for her first visit. we have pet insurance, but it won't cover anything related to her pre-existing condition, so if it all turns out to be related, we're royally screwed.

basically, we need $1140 USD to cover her vet appts.

my husband and i both work full time. he's a PhD student and i'm too sick myself to take on another job. we're already drowning in debt and this is going to be a huge hit.

the only other way we have to make money right now is my patreon and buymeacoffee.

EMERGENCY!!!

Hello, sorry for not having been very present lately, I have been busy with studies and it has not given me much time to draw and at the moment I am having an economic crisis. I don't like doing this kind of thing but my cat is very sick, he hasn't stopped vomiting all morning and his stomach looks very swollen, I don't have the money to take him to the vet and I really don't have enough time to make quick commissions. Because as I said, I'm studying and I get home very late, my mother is not helpful with the cats' needs even though she knows that they are hers too, not just mine. Continued edit: Sebastian passed away on March 18th. The money that didn't go to vet bills has gone to his end of life care.

I genuinely think this might be the hardest post I will ever have to write. I have been trying to stay positive and keep hoping for the best, but I can't pretend like my cat isn't sick after this last week. And I am so scared. He's my best friend in the whole wide world. (As I tell him often "My sweetheart, my darling, my love, the light of my life, the wind beneath my winds and in my sails, I love you more than there are stars in the sky, fish in the sea, and atoms in the universe. I have never loved or will love anything more than I love you." Followed usually by "You absolute pest." or "Get up!")

I am apparently incapable of writing this in one go because I can't stop crying. Christ.

For the moment, there is an estimate of $1200 to do the biopsy on his liver (they need to confirm whether it is liver cancer before anything else). This includes ultrasound, x-rays, medications, and having it sent off to the lab. And I can't afford it. Plain and simple. So, I come asking for help. Because I don't want to lose my cat for being poor. It's not fair to him. He's 10, and I promised him that he'd be a fat cat in his late teens before we had to worry.

I don't want to make one of those donation posts where I can't give anything in return. Because I feel like I should show my gratitude somehow. I don't have the ability to draw or paint or anything like that. I have decent sewing skills, and I can write. It isn't much in terms of repayment, but it's all I can offer along with my eternal gratitude and a little bit longer with my best friend.
