As Sidon approaches you, you hear something dragging in the grass behind him. He has an uncharacteristic, forlorn look on his face that you've never seen before as you realize he is pulling along a fishing rod, because it is attached to his belt, just above his... oh.

Sidon cannot bring himself to make eye contact with you as he draws nearer, and you ask, "My prince, what has happened to you? Do you need some help?"

Sidon stops a few feet from you and continues to look at the ground. "Oh, Y/N. It's the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me." His face reflects the truth of his words, and you place your hand gently on his arm. "Tell me about it," you say. "I promise I won't laugh."

"You wouldn't?" He looks up at you. "Everyone else did. Even Bazz, who is usually stone-faced." He gives a sigh. "Even he couldn't hold back a chuckle at how ridiculous I looked, trying to swim up a waterfall with a . . . with this . . . stuck just above my . . . oh, it's too embarrassing. I didn't even realize it was there at first. I don't know when it got there, and I'm lucky it didn't pierce . . . I don't think I can even let you try to help. I'll just go to my chambers and try--"

"Please don't be that way, my prince," you say. "You might hurt yourself. You can't see it well, considering where it is. Let me try to get it out for you. Who would leave something like this lying around?" He turns so that you can work the hook from his belt, which does not take long at all. You're glad it has not pierced his beautiful skin or hurt him, as well. "That's terribly irresponsible. You don't think it could have been another Zora, do you?" you wonder. Not that it matters now, but you can't help but feel curious.

"I don't know. Perhaps someone simply forgot about it and left it behind. I'm glad you're here, Y/N." He seems to feel soothed by your response. You see his shoulders relax once you get the hook out. You offer the fishing rod to him, but he shakes his head. "You keep it, Y/N. I remember you telling me that you were looking for a decent one. I can't say how quality it is, but at least you needn't spend your hard-earned rupees on it. And it is safer in your hands."

He turned to look longingly at the lake in the distance. "How long do you suppose it will take them all to forget about it?"

"I wouldn't worry about it too much, sweet prince." You have to go easy on the names of endearment in public, but it seems safe here. You tuck the fishing rod against a tree for the moment. "I bet they've all done silly things, too. They just might have had the luxury of not doing them in public." You're not used to this role with him, reassuring him, for once. It's nice to have the tables turned once in a while, but you wonder if you're doing it well enough.

He answers your unspoken question when he turns to look at you and pulls you into a hug. "Thank you, Y/N. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Hey it's the anon who wants to play BOTW but is egregious bad at video games again. I took your advice and I've shocked myself at how much progress i've made, I got to the goron village, korok forest, and rito village. One current issue is that I am still. SO bad at the combat. Like SO bad. I panic immediately and lose all coordination (which I already had very little of). I managed to get myself killed before I could even get to the point where Sidon GIVES YOU the quest to get to Zora's domain. I completely fumbled through a minor test of strength.

Any tips for improving general combat capabilities. HELP

hi! first of all, i'm gonna go over the basics of combat and how/when you should use them. the game does technically tell you these things, but they come up early game and are pretty easy to miss imo. you might know some of them already tho!

the first thing that's probably going to be really helpful to you if you don't already know about it is enemy targeting. this locks the camera in place on a specific enemy, even within a horde of them, giving you free reign to abandon the right stick and focus on button pressing. to target an enemy, get close and press the left trigger (ZL.) this will also equip your shield if you're using a one-handed weapon, but the targeting is the most important. Once you're locked in on one enemy, so long as you keep the trigger pressed, the camera will auto-lock into a straight line from link's back to the enemy, so there's no need for you to worry about camera controls. if you DO touch the right stick while targeting, the target camera will jump to the next closest enemy to link and auto-lock again. in general, when fighting, your left pointer should be pressing the trigger to target at all times, your left thumb should be on the stick moving link around, and your right thumb should be pressing Y and shouldn't move from that button. that's the basic combat configuration and there aren't a lot of scenarios where you're going to have to do much more than that (except maybe the right trigger for your bow.)

next is weapon classes. there are 3 different melee weapon classes in botw--swords, greatswords, and polearms. each weapon class has a different attack pattern and speed, and each class has its own strengths and weaknesses.

swords are any weapon link swings one-handed. (examples include the master sword, broadswords, tree branches, boomerangs, small boko clubs, etc.) they have a decently fast attack pattern and when they're equipped link can also use a shield in his left hand with ZL. this is my favorite weapon class, as it's pretty middle-of-the road, usually they have mid-range attack points, as previously mentioned their attack speed isn't too slow, and they come with the added bonus of being able to use a shield. if you're fighting something like a guardian where shielding is necessary, you should always aim to be using a sword-class weapon as it's the only weapon class that link can also hold a shield with.

greatswords are heavy two-handed weapons (examples include claymores and bigger boko clubs.) they usually have very large attack stats, often in the 50s or above, which makes them tempting, especially early game. however, they have several noticeable drawbacks that make them my least favorite weapon class. because of their weight, their attack speed is very low, and because they're two-handed link can't shield when he has one equipped. I personally stay away from this weapon class early-game--imo they're only worth it if you have both hearts and stamina to spare. I only ever use them for hard-hitting charged attacks after stunning an enemy, and will almost always switch back to a sword-class weapon for regular combat.

polearms are long, light two-handed weapons that link holds like a spear (examples include spears, halberds, and tridents.) these have the fastest attack speed in the game, but because they're two-handed link still can't shield with one equipped. these weapons also usually have a longer reach than swords and greatswords, so they can be useful if you don't want to get too close to what you're fighting (however you forfeit the more reliable protection of a shield in order to get that benefit.) these are useful in a pinch, and personally i won't actively discard them like i tend to do with greatswords, but they definitely don't have the same versatility and ease of use as a sword-class weapon.

for early-game, i'd try to stick to sword-class weapons as much as possible, and ALWAYS have your shield up with the left trigger/ZL when you're in combat. this alone will make you harder to hit and let you last a lot longer. with the limited weapon slots you have early-game, i'd focus on collecting weapons that are easy for you to use rather than the ones with the highest attack stats, especially since they're going to break anyway. be willing to sacrifice a high-attack greatsword for a lower-attack one-handed sword in a pinch.

as for the actual mechanics of combat, there are plenty of fancy things you CAN do, but very few of them are actually necessary to beat the game. you can get through 90% of all combat in botw by just targeting with ZL and mashing Y, maybe occasionally sprinting with B to avoid enemy attacks. there are shrines and npcs that will teach you fancy things like backflips and perfect-dodges, which are useful if you can reliably perform them, but if you're someone who gets easily confused when you have to perform a lot of button presses in quick succession, it'll probably be more useful for you to just stick to Y attacks.

the one special combo attack you ARE going to need to learn in order to get through the game is a perfect shield parry, which is going to sound scary and difficult when i explain it but i promise it becomes like second nature after a while. this combo is the easiest way to combat anything that has a laser-beam attack, like guardians and certain late-game bosses. you hold your shield up with ZL, (this combo can ONLY be performed if you're holding a one-handed weapon, and make sure you're targeting the enemy attacking you and not just holding your shield up at nothing) wait for the laser to lock onto you, (the target line will blink rapidly and then disappear just before the laser fires) and then, right when the laser hits your shield, hit the A button to redirect the beam back towards the enemy. there is some level of danger here, because if you press A too early the beam may hit you, but most of the time if you fail to perform a perfect parry the beam will still just bounce off your shield and not do any damage to you. there are plenty of stationary guardians on the map you can use to practice this skill until the timing is ingrained into you, and i would highly recommend practicing it as it's super useful late-game.

as a final note, remember that botw is a game designed for versatility. it seems like you're doing everything very by-the-book--fighting whenever the game tells you to fight, regardless of whether you really WANT to fight. and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's also by no means the only way to get through the game. if you find yourself struggling with melee combat, there's nothing stopping you from buying a bunch of bomb arrows and just firing them off at enemies from afar, or even just eating a shit ton of stealth food and sneaking around them. certain combat scenarios are going to be unavoidable, but botw is a game that prioritizes player innovation, meaning that very rarely is there going to only be one way out of a situation. if you're struggling with melee combat, try something else! try your bow, or a rune, or avoiding combat altogether, until you find something that sticks and makes the game fun for you. there's no wrong way to play!

#also worth noting--if you get scared by the quick weapon-switch mechanics mid battle you can literally just pause and open your inventory #to manually switch if your weapon breaks. you don't NEED to use the D-pad for anything except runes if you don't want to #asks

Maybe it was payback for jokingly calling him ‘your majesty’ all day, something that you did to get back at him whenever he did something silly with you. He hates when that word comes out of your mouth. If anything, he always said that he should be the one calling you that. To him, he was your lover full time. He loves his people but sometimes it just felt like the royal thing was a side hustle. But no matter what the case was, you just knew he was enjoying it. Enjoying the sounds of you begging for him to bring you as much pleasure as you could handle.

You averted your gaze down to his hand. As if you weren’t horny enough, he just had to go and point out how absolutely stuffed full you were. Sidon took hold of your hands and rested his head atop yours. “I know what you want pearl, but I can’t give it to you unless you use your words.”

You were defeated. The rasp in his voice was the cherry on top as you whined. “Sidon, I want you to fuck me. Please?” That’s what he wanted to hear. “Your wish is my command my love. However, there is one condition…” Your breath hitched when you heard the proposition.

“Look at me.” Your eyes obediently shot up at the order. “I’ll give you what you asked so nicely for, but you are to maintain eye contact with me the entire time. How’s that sound?” His authority made your mouth water in anticipation, the only response emanating from you was a pathetic ‘mhmm.’

Finding Out About Yona

[Part One]

You hadn't seen Sidon in months due to the upheaval in Hyrule, and due to Sidon becoming extremely busy at Zora's Domain after Calamity Ganon. However, word got around that a strange sludge had appeared there causing havoc. You were quick to make it to Zora's Domain on foot, by the time you got there you were covered in sludge and drained. You couldn't help but be overwhelmed by how different Zora's Domain looked.

Your P.O.V.

I had approached the new statue seeing it wasn't Mipha anymore, but instead Link and Sidon.

"Where did Mipha's statue go...?" I muttered to myself, getting distracted while trying to find Sidon. There was a sound of footsteps behind me, however I was too lost in thought to hear them. I then jumped a bit in surprise hearing an abrupt feminine voice behind me.

"Ah, a hylian! We weren't expecting any visitors during a dire time like this. What brings a hylian like you here? Are you alright? It must have been quite the journey to get here!" I turned around seeing a green female Zora. I raised my eyebrows a bit surprised, noting how I never saw her before, I then smile a bit in response.

"Ah. You scared me." I laughed nervously rubbing the back of my head. "I was here hoping to find Sidon to make sure that he was okay, and I'm fine! Just a little dirty from the sludge." I said looking up to the worried green Zora. Her concerned expression turns into a relieved expression before her eyes widen a bit pointing towards me.

"Are you... (Y/n) by chance?" She asked with a curious look, I stood a bit shocked at her recognizing my name before I nodded. She smiled even wider. "Sidon has told me so much about you! He has been worried about you and Link since the upheaval, that's pretty much all he talks about is you two!" She said with a small grin. I couldn't help but feel my face go warm hearing this. She then shook her head a bit before continuing. "Sorry! I got a bit ahead of myself there, I almost forgot to introduce myself! My name is Yona, I'm Sidon's fiancé!" She said in a chipper tone. I immediately froze, like a pit in my stomach just dropped.

"...Fiancé?" I asked a bit hesitantly in disbelief. She then nodded. I only stood there in silence. My brain couldn't process what she had just said, my brain suddenly felt dazed, I could hear her talking, asking me something; however it fell deaf to my ears. I then turned back to her when I felt her shaking my shoulder lightly.

"(Y/n)? Are you okay? Do you need to go to the infirmary?" She asked concerned with her eyes filled with worry, I quickly shook my head.

"I'm fine. I think the sludge made me a little dizzy, I'm going to go get some air." I said brushing her hand off me lightly, before walking away. I could hear her call out my name once again completely worried. I had simply ignored her, and kept walking. My mind has completely wandered. I found myself near the top of Mount Plymous. I then stumbled a bit seeing Sidon's back, my breath was sharp as I stood feeling tears in my eyes. He seemed to have been doing something, as he was standing in the water with light emitting from hit palms near the water. I watched him in silence for a few moments, feeling overwhelmed with so many different emotions.

"(Y/n)! I'm surprised to see you all the way up here! Are you here to see Prince Sidon?" I heard a Zora guard call out to me, I immediately panicked hearing this, taking multiple steps back.

"No! Just wanted to see what was new up here, anyways I have to go now. Bye!" I said quickly turning away trying my best to hold it together, starting to walk away at a quick pace. The Zora guard looked a bit confused before waving. I didn't get very far as I soon heard a deep and rich voice.

"(Y/n)? Is that you?" Sidon called to me, I slowly turned my head to his voice but turned back, my pace increasing more. It wasn't long before I felt a strong hand on my shoulder. "(Y/n)!" Sidon called out again, immediately turning me to face him, his face was concerned, as mine was filled with anger and tears.

"Yona, huh?" I immediately asked in a vile tone, clearly emotionally charged.

"(Y/n) I-" he started, but I cut him off before he could finish as I immediately pulled away from his grip.

"I left for a couple of months, and you're now getting married to a random zora?! Why didn't I know about this, did our relationship mean nothing to you?!" I cried out as tears continued to drip from my eyes as my face was red from anger. Sidon was immediately taken aback by my hostile tone.

"I... It's not what you think it is!" It was an arranged marriage, and she was my childhood friend!" He said with a small look of guilt, as his face was saddened.

"A childhood friend?! You threw away our relationship for a childhood friend?!" I yelled out angry before continuing. "I worked so hard throughout our entire relationship to keep it private and then you turn around and do this!" I screamed at him. His eyes went from widened then to a soft glare.

"I'm a Prince! I take my role very seriously! I have to do what's best for my kingdom!" He said defending himself lightly. I felt angrier at him if it was at all more possible.

"Our relationship suddenly means nothing now?! Is your kingdom more important than us?" I asked with stepping away completely enraged. Sidon looked taken aback once again, before he realized that he had said the wrong thing.

"Of course it matters! I just... Let's not talk about this right now, darling. I have more important matters right now." He said trying to reach towards me, I pulled away once again.

"You don't have the right to call me that anymore! It's over!" I was quick to immediately start walking away once again, ignoring his calls to me. Everything hurt.

Oops I wrote a long thing (824 words) (and I made myself cry writing it). It's called Legend's Grace.

Legend sat at Wild's bedside and held his limp hand tightly, willing him to hold on, willing him to pull through.

They'd had a rough week; lots of fighting and lots of injuries. Legend himself sports a bandage around his head and a mild concussion to match. Wild was a trooper, he'd taken an arrow to the ribs one of the days, and though it was healed with a potion, it still bothered him, but not enough to slow him down. That is until yesterday when he collapsed.

The running theory was that the injury was healed but with an infection sealed inside and now here he was sick in bed in a random kind stranger's house with a dangerously high fever and an entrenched chest infection that didn't seem to be responding to any medicine.

"Come on, stay with me," Legend murmured fervently. To his surprise, Wild opened his eyes. He looked up at Legend blearily and giggled.

"I know you," he said softly. "I know that red anywhere."

"Oh thank the goddesses, Champion, you really have had us worried."

"Mipha," Wild exhaled and closed his eyes. Legend froze, his heart racing. He knew what Mipha was someone very important to Wild but exactly how he didn't know. And he knew he did not have the emotional fortitude to have this sort of conversation with him right now.

"I guess if I'm seeing you that's not a good thing," Wild said opening his eyes once more.

"You're going to be fine," Legend said squeezing his hand.

"If you say so."

"I do. Say so." Legend said awkwardly, wishing Wild would go back to sleep. Should he fake being this Mipha person? Or tell him he was Legend? Would that confuse or distress him too much?

"You're still here," Wild said after a minute or two of staring up at Legend's face.

"I'm not going to leave you," Legend said.

"Since you're here..." Wild started then took a rattling noisy inhale and wincing with pain. "I just wanted to say that..."

"Shhh. It's alright. Don't talk, just rest."

"I want to. I need to tell you... I'm sorry."

What for? Legend wondered but he couldn't bring himself to ask. He waited as the seconds ticked by, dreading the answer, already feeling his eyes prickling with tears. Damn concussion making his skin thin and emotions fragile.

"I know you loved me--" Wild started but a wet coughing spell left him struggling to breathe. Legend hovered over him with worry unsure of what to do, wishing literally anyone else was there to help, but everyone else was sleeping in the barn.

"Sidon said you wanted to propose," Wild continued once his breath returned enough for him to speak.

Tears pooled in Legend's eyes. Nononono he did not need to know that information. So Mipha had been Wild's girlfriend, his almost fiancee? Legend didn't know much about her, but he knew she was dead.

"And... I'm sorry," Wild continued, oblivious to Legend's struggle. "I'm sorry, but... I lost my memory. I don't remember you... not much anyway."

Legend wiped his eyes on his sleeve and put on a brave face.

"I don't know if past me loved you, but... I don't now--not in that way--but... I do feel some love for you...? I don't know. My emotions are confused."

"It's okay. I understand," Legend said trying to keep his voice strong and unwavering, but all he could see in his mind was his own lost love, all he could see was her her her--her red hair in the breeze, her cheery smile, her blue dress...

"Your father was right... it really is a shame we'll never know what could have been."

It was a shame we'll never know what could have been. Tears streamed down Legend's face and his shoulders shook with silent sobs.

It was a shame Legend didn't have more time with Marin, it was a shame what happened wasn't real, it was a shame he could never see her again, hold her again, speak with her again, except in his own dreams. How he yearned for her, how he wanted her in his life again more than anything in the world. She was his beloved and he was once hers.

"One thing I do remember... before the calamity..."

"What?" Legend uttered roughly with emotion.

"You wanted to spend more time together... Let's do that. I want to get to know you again."

"Yes," Legend said his heart heavy with grief. "I would like that very much."

"One last thing... before I sleep," Wild said in a fading voice.

Legend wiped his eyes and nose, forcing himself to take a deep breath and regain some semblance of his shattered composure.

"Thanks for being there for me, through everything."

Legend smiled through the tears and the pain and he said it, he meant it with all his heart:

"It was my pleasure."
