This is perhaps the nerdiest piece I have ever had the pleasure of writing. For IndieWire I delve deep into the inspirations behind Damien Chazelle's BABYLON. From the history and the mythology to the people and films. (warning: there are spoilers).
one thing I love so much about this movie is how it does justice to the women who worked in production during this era. the directors and the writers and the editors. I delve into the many allusions Chazelle's film makes to these women in both obvious and subtle ways.
