Beautiful promethea moth I managed to untangle some cobwebs from last night :) she stuck around where I put her for a while to rest and recover, and was sent on her way just now! At first I mistook her for a cecropia, but after a little more digging (and the help of some sunlight) I found that she more closely resembles a promethea :D I love her and I hope she enjoys the rest of her little buggy life <3
More photos of my beautiful boy! Sadly his wings didn’t form perfectly, but he can still fly just fine!
In fact he spewed some liquid from his rear and flew around when I picked him up which likely means he got scared. I got him to calm down thankfully, but he needs lots of energy for when he’ll fly off to find a mate so I hope he didn’t use up too much.
I’ll be keeping him for a night before releasing him tomorrow night. I still need a photo of the underside of his wings, but hopefully you enjoy these so far!
Do you want weaver ants? Because that's how you get weaver ants!
Weaver ants use empty silk cocoons from wild silk moths as founding chambers. Empty cocoons from commercial silk production can even be used to attract queens. These ants play an important role in pest control in orchards and are desired by farmers.

I made a giant moth plush. The moth is 18 inches tall. The wingspan is 48 inches long. The fabric is faux fur and faux rabbit fur. Has a weighted bottom. The moth is perfect for anyone who loves insects, likes all things of the night or for gifting friends and family. The silk moth is for sale here.
The species was first described in 1847 by Jean Baptiste Boisduval.

Moth #2!!! Also Hyalophora cecropia, and she’s a female!
I’ll be leaving her outside overnight and with luck, she’ll be able to attract and mate with a male, possibly mine! I am genuinely so excited about this and can’t wait for her wings to expand!
