silkwings are pretty neat in concept, but oh man do their wings bother me

butterfly wings on a dragon are really cool, but i can't wrap my brain around how they start off as little buds, then become whole wings? how? do silkwings grow new bones in the cocoon? are the bones already there and extend out during metamorphosis? how do they fly? like the typical dragon, or more like a butterfly? can their wings fold at rest like birds do, or like butterflies or moths?

i guess i'm just going to go with whatever makes the most sense to me, and whatever i think looks best
