2023 art review!

Even if this year wasn't the biggest on art, due to my physical condition (especially in last couple of months), it would still be nice to look back on what i did as an artist throughout it!

This is gonna be a fun ride...

So, let's dive straight into it, shall we?

January

2023 started on a high note, with me just having finished the King piece, and moving on to the next big thing, being an AvA3/5 double piece.

Sadly, during the process i messed up big time which led to me being unable to finish the piece the way i wanted to, rendering this project an eternal WIP. However, i still cherish the idea and do wish to either redraw, or complete it.

February

Doing 2 big projects one after another did end up affecting my overall drive, so i spent majority of that month just making sketches.

First one is a little redraw/redesign of my old character - Derek, whom i used for a roleplay with my friends like 3 or 4 years ago, and second one is Deach, a character from my fantasy setting.

Also, back then i joined a new fandom, people in which have reminded me of my admiration for SCP, after which me and my friends proceeded to make OCs for it. Was a fun time! (Also this access card was sold by me as a YCH, sadly i couldn't really find buyers, so yikes)

March

By march is slowly started recovering from january's disappointement and was a bit more productive already. One of my friends really helped with it too.

A musician friend of mine reached out to me, asking to develop a design for a villain character in the plot he was working on. After listening to the theme song i couldn't resist. This ended up being one of my favorite designs so far, and i adore its look in neon.

In the meantime, i kept working on my fantasy setting, refining more minor details of designs and stories, yet having to reserve only to making sketches as i was too busy with college and other projects. Characters you see on screen are Ian and Lanfor respectfully. One is a strong yet troubled mage and other is a great Emperor, and even better person.

April

I'd say april was one of the most productive months of this year, mostly because i managed to snatch some time for myself and my setting, which allowed me to complete two full pieces and achieve some extreme progress with my story.

This piece is an illustration to a scene i wrote for two of the characters, Lanfor and Emile, called "Night Visitor". This was a scene of a reunion of two old friends. A bittersweet, yet a lovely work. Love both the written one as well as the illustration.

This one was more of a... Proof of concept. Needed to test out the expresiveness of the design for one or a relatively new characters - Covlar. Was originally a simple sketch on paper, but i couldn't resist the urge of making it into a complete illustration. I then proceeded to make a few notes for this scene. Both want to write it properly and avoid it at all cost... Best to avoid it, for my own sanity.

May

May was a bit of trainwreck, because i got a brand new laptop, which took me quite some time to get used to and even more time to reassure myself that it is in fact alright for me to draw on this suspicioiusly thin piece of tech.

Ironically enough, the only vomplete piece i drew that month was drawn on my old laptop. This screenshot redraw was to made to honour the premiere of AvA6 ep.1. Sadly, i did it a bit late because fo technical issues, but i still had a ton of fun doing it.

June

June was... Chaotic, to say the least. Mostly because i finally got comfortable with the new laptop and could now draw a lot more freely due to it being a lot more compact than the original one, which worked almost like a PC. Besides, i got a ton more free time because semester finals ended up being a breeze.

Ended up making a ton sketches and doodles, that i didn't actually plan to finish, but still enjoyed a ton. Here are some of them

Then, ofc, the memes and the gand redesign, because AvA6 just had to break all of my portrayals. But, i mean, after AvM s3 my original designs did become a bit dated.

The biggest pride and saddest of failures was this picnic piece, however. I still plan on finishing it, but it is hard doing so, when i have changed quite a bit of my artstyle by now.

July

July was quite lazy. Semester ended and i spent that entire month out of the city. It was a great time, very peaceul indeed.

And again, that musician friend from before came into clutch, asking me to develop another design for his other project. And again a villain. He said he really liked how i draw bastard type of characters.

August

Well this is where fun began. End of summer break means i have just this much time to actually draw something i would never have time to draw normally.

For me to draw something to commemorate a new episode is almost like a tradition at this point. And, given how long it's been since i made anything that would require effort, no wonder i have chosen arguably the most complex piece to pull off energy-wise. Yet i did and now i simply adore this piece, even if it did render me disabled. (I crunched through all of this piece, pulling off 40+ hours of work in just 4 days, so naturaly it ended up worsening my condition by a lot)

Then i also proceeded to do all of these tiny side projects, like Victim ask, which i couldn't last long at due to my condition, and working on a design for my favourite streamer. (Which i cannot show as the work is not complete an it's best if i avoid spoilers)

September and October

These two months i spent being unable to draw at all via a doctor's advice. Arguably, these two were the hardest months for me to handle.

I assume you can imagine how hard it is to suddenly stop being able to do what you love, regardless of how much you wish to do it.

Novemer

*Nervous laughter* I... actually still wasn't allowed to use my hand, but that didn't stop me and i ended up making an entire series of sketches to celebrate AvA6 ep2.

I will admit, i still adore all of these sketches and each of them deserves to become a fully fledged piece in it's own right, but i really better keep them as they are. For my own safety.

December

As you way have expected, this month will stay without a single thing from me. It's not because i don't want to, but because i can't. And, given the circumstance, it better stay that way.

Afterword

I finally got my diagnosis and soon enough i will start active treatment for my condition. It would be a shame to make this worse than it already is with impulses like those that happened in november, so i am making this post as a way to draw a line for myself.

It is still kinda crazy to realize that there are quite a few people interested in what i make, so i will make sure to take my recovery as responcible as possible, and then come back to you with even more art in the upcoming year! Let's be positive about it.

I never really thought about this one, like.at all, even, just because of how unexpected it really was. Leaderskill and passive are very strong! Finally an extreme goku, definitely a unit to summon for, also your syntax is very well done. Original Render by young Jiiji, redraw by RodamatyĪs always you did a very good job on making the render! Effects are also very clean and don’t clutter the animation although it looks like the quality decreases slightly when converted to a GIF. ↑ Raises "ultimate damage" multiplier by 100% during attack.↑ Raises Super Attack Multipliers and DEF by 100% for 1 turn.We probably never see the "Super Saiyan 4" Category. Talking about the Leader Skill, if Dokkan Battle doesn't want to import the SSJ 4 from DBH, The Render is actually really good (being a SDBH World Mission one), but the effects are very classic, but the palette is good for a SSJ4 Gohan. So, a few faults here and there, but overall, pretty solid. The active skill is easily the greatest thing on this by a good margin, because I think that it gives him much more usability. The art is alright, nothing super appealing but nothing too bad with the effects. High stun chance on SA is a good addition and the passive, albeit a little strong in some aspects, was very much just like other SS4 cards. I have always wanted this category in actual Dokkan, so this is quite a great entry that I was quite easily expecting. Overall it’s a very good card with only minor adjustments needed Links are pretty realistic and has a very solid passive set but your syntax should also include reference indicators for things like “High chance to.”. Yes the much needed “Super Saiyan 4” category leader! Art is simple and clean, looks very dokkan like, although I would suggest trying to fit only the head/upper torso for the thumbnail. This card was designed for the Dokkan Boss Competition by EmeraldSaiyan3.Įvent for the card: Beyond All Limits!!! The Greatest Potential! The majority of the points will go to the Artwork.Īll cards must use "|HideNavigation = True". The core details of a card are a must, but do try to organize spelling and grammar like a real Dokkan card ("Dokkan syntax", as Super Saiyan Kolra calls it). Some minor details can help here and there to put you above your fellow entrants. Like, I always here about them in replies and stuff but I've almost never seen what they actually look like. So if you could just tag pics of them or doodle (they can be super bad 30 sec doodles too, it don't matter to me) them, I would be the happiest, most joyful little shit ever.

Anon!! Thank you for being so interested in our AUs and wanting to learn more about them. It was a very good excuse for us to go through the list of the AUs, doodle them, revisit some of the older ones, etc. So yeah, your wish is granted lol

Here’s the majority of them, we decided not to include those that we’ve barely talked about and thought out... I’ve put tags for those AUs where we have at least something posted. Most of them are something we haven’t even talked about at all and they don’t have a single sketch, but I liked drawing chibis for them way too much. Sorry, I used your ask lol

We have a general tag for our aus and specific ones for some of them, but sometimes an au from here is not tagged separately, so you might have to use this general tag...I tried to fix it, I don’t think I missed anything, so it should be ok now! ;w;

1. Space AU. It’s a story about a space expedition.. which turned out to be not exactly what everyone planned thanks to Erwin. What a commander! 

2. Tribal AU. It’s a story about Eren becoming a part of the tribe where Erwin and Levi live. 

3. Babysitter AU. Levi is a babysitter to Eren and Zeke, unfortunately for Zeke, who’s 17 and not exactly thrilled about being babied. Sometimes there’s kid Erwin too. We’ve never posted anything related to this AU, I think, and I don’t think we will. There’s another AU related to this one, but 19yo Eren from the paths (he has the memory of the manga events) keeps kid Eren company as an invisible ghost, while others think that kid Eren is cursed or something.

4. SnK AU. A classical one, where Eren has dreams about the plot of SnK, but when the story stops progressing, he decides to kidnap Levi to make the plot go on. Erwin finds out later... and keeps Levi in the basement because he wants to know the ending too lmao plus it’s hot.

5. Mines AU. Erwin gathered a team for his wonderful plan to find a treasure, but it’s not like the rest of the team needs to know where they’re really going. Zeke’s particularly terrified to find that out. Despite its name, they spend the majority of time in the forest. Also, there’s a timeskip of 11 years. 

6. AU with Neetwin who’s a history teacher. We don’t tag this one though, it’s not like it’s our AU. So now it’s a Neetwin tag, although one of the drawings is with adult Levi... eh, who cares. 

7. CC AU (cleaning company). Levi works in a cleaning company and cleans up Neetwin and hobo Eren’s apts. They need a lot of work. Yes, they make their apts even dirtier to make Levi spend more time there. 

8. Prison AU. Damn this one is good... we came up with it before reading the timeskip in the manga, so Eren’s appearance doesn’t really match his age, he’s 17 lol Levi is a mafia member who goes to prison because he need to kill one of the inmates (who later became Zeke) on Erwin’s (Levi’s boss) request. Eren’s his personal guard, although Eren works as a regular guard too.

9. King Kong AU. It’s an AU where the Beast Titan is King Kong lmao Zeke is having fun killing dinosaurs... Levi, not so much. Thank Erwin for his wonderful plan of going to this island.

10. Rus AU, basically just characters living in Russia. Because ofc we will have this type of a setting... Damn, I thought we drew this one more often, huh. 

11. Sea AU. Mainly our modern AU, we use it as a base for other modern stuff for the most part. Levi’s getting two boifrond rings, he lives with Erwin, Eren visits them often, Zeke bitches a lot, fun times with and without Zeke, stuff like that. There’s also a subplot (11.5) where Eren gets “kidnapped” by a witch, so Zevi have to find him and bring him back. Titans exist in this AU, Eren and Zeke are titans, and all of them have military training, but Erwin and Levi retired some time ago. We don’t have a tag for just a modern setting, though. 

12. Cult AU. Eren lives on a farm and has a whole village of his followers. He also has cursed animals... and I think we’ve told about some of the plot points in replies. Erwin’s really into all this cult stuff because it affects reality for real, so he asks Levi to follow rituals, although Levi came to ask Eren to go back to normal life and finish the fucking school. 

13. Serial killer AU. Eren’s a serial killer, duh. Never posted anything with this one, unfortunately, but Eren got disappointed in the police when he was a child, so he decided to fix the situation himself, while Erwin and Levi, as a part of a special department, investigate his “fixing”. It also has a time skip. I really need to redraw at least one sketch...

14. Hospital AU. Levi gets into Marley trying to make Eren go back, but it’s not that simple because Eren doesn’t want to lol Basically canonverse with this small change.

15. Hobo AU. Eren and Levi are hobos, Zeke wants his brother to stop living under a fucking bridge. Later Erwin takes both of them under his roof because he really likes Levi, but he can’t leave Eren alone.

16. Doggies AU. AU where Eren’s a wolf and Erwin’s a doggo. Levi got Erwin because he was a retiring trained dog and sniffed enough drugs in his life, and Eren... his “owner” found him on the streets and lied to Levi about Eren being a dog. Later Eren turned into a magnificent beast and now he doesn’t want to leave. There’s also Zeke, but he belongs to Xavier. 

17. AU where Eren wants to become a mangaka. The first post is self-explanatory, although I’d probably make some changes now if I cared enough. There’s also a time skip where Eren ditched his manga and became hobo!Eren. His editor was pissed lol 

18. Scolopendra Eren AU. You know the drill, and I’ve talked about the plot in some of the replies.

19. Ghost Eren AU. I should’ve named it combini AU... Anyway, I’ve talked about this one a lot, although poor Erwin gets neglected a little bit lol it’s hard to compete with a ghost when you’re just a mere stalker... but a very invested one. Eren likes Erwin here, they’re vibing on the same malicious-towards-Levi wave. 

20. Shark Eren AU. It’s just for us for funs, Eren’s a shark, and Levi’s there to help him fight depression. Eren later escapes into the sea.

21. Midsommar AU. Levi and Erwin get an invite to go to the village from Yelena, Eren’s a part of a cult who is kinda attracted to one of the newcomers... Such a good movie, we need to draw them properly. Both Yeagerists and Eldians are a part of the cult, they don’t have any specific rules by which I categorised them... Although not all characters are present, and some of them (Jean, I think) are newcomers who will join the cult later. Sorry, I don’t remember much. 

22. Silent Hill AU. It started with Erwin peeking into Levi’s apartment, but now there’s Eren too... We haven’t thought out this one, I’m bad with Silent Hill AUs for some reason. 

23. House Eren AU. Eren’s a house, and we’ve explained how it works too, so just check out the tag. Levi actually lives there with Erwin, but I don’t remember if we’ve mentioned it or decided to skip this info. 

24. Eren pack AU. It’s an AU where Erens of all ages (6 of them, I believe) are a little bit feral, and they have wolf ears and tails, and they live in a specific place and Levi visits them every day and takes care of them. They love Levi. Here’s the only post that survived, and here’s a link for a twitter post which I never got back on tumblr after it got deleted. 

25. Trailer AU. The story is about Levi who has to live with Zeke for a month as his slave because Erwin lost him in a game of cards lol To be fair, Erwin lost a lot of money and their whole flat, and Zeke gave them a choice between that and Levi (he’s horny ok), and Levi agreed. Zeke even put Levi on a chain, although Levi doesn’t even try to escape...

26. Flower shop AU. Eren’s a plant, and he brings death to the whole planet. He keeps Levi alive though, as a treat for himself. We’ve explained some of the stuff in the replies. 

27. Blair Witch AU. It’s pretty much explained in this post, and if you saw the movie, there’s nothing for me to tell you. Everything that’s different from it is in the post lol 

28. Corpse AU. Eren’s a corpse, Levi’s a pathologist who works on difficult and mysterious cases alongside the police. Eren later comes to life along with a couple of other bodies...

29. Antichrist AU. Zevi adopt baby Eren, but Eren’s a fucking satan. He loves Levi, but Zeke... not so much. Zeke loves Eren to death, though. Eren would love to organise that, but first he needs to grow up a little bit. It doesn’t mean that he won’t torture his parents during his journey. And everyone else who interact with them.

30. This one doesn’t have a title, but it’s an AU where kid Eren went missing, and Levi goes into the forest to find him. Levi owns Erwin who’s a good doggo and helps him find Eren. It turns out Eren killed two adult dudes, and he has paths!Eren telling him what to do and how to do it... Paths!Eren has the memory of the canonverse.

31. Zombie apocalypse AU. There’s only one drawing with it though, but basically Levi builds himself a wonderful place to survive the apocalypse, and he keeps Zombie Erwin in the basement in hopes of Hange finding a cure. Then Eren joins just because he can and because Levi’s very awesome. Eren has a boner for the apocalypse and enjoys every second of it. 

32. No title, but Eren was casted away from the canon universe for the rumbling, and now he’s a mythological giant wolf who lives in a deep very old forest. He was very surprised to find out Levi exists in this universe... So he kidnapped him ❤️

33. Halloween AU. You’ve seen this one, it’s a story where Jean, Connie, Sasha and Eren get into the wrong house and find a ritual instead of a Halloween party... So after saving the child who, as it turns out, is not really a victim, they decide to ditch him at Eruri’s place.

34. Okusan AU. Levi’s a housewife, Erwin is a cuckold who’s really into adultery. He invites both Zeke and Eren from time to time to act as Levi’s husbands, and they (Levi and Erwin) almost get caught because the “husband” suddenly came home... Sorry, we’ve read too many doujinshis lol

35. Island AU. Erwin loves sending Levi to dangerous places to get souvenirs for himself, and now it’s time for Levi to get a crystal from a very isolated island full of strict rules in terms of interacting with outsiders. We have a cool idea for a two part drawing (like with our flower shop au), but it’ll take us ages to complete anything at this rate... I have like two sketches on Patreon for now, but damn this AU has so many cool visuals we wanna draw... It’s another cult AU with people living on Paradis (more like one village in the middle of the island), isolated from the rest of the world. They don’t welcome strangers, and Levi has three months to find and steal that crystal, although it’s not that simple.

36. Erewan. Not exactly a full AU, but Erewan’s a cursed animal plushie who kills people and loves Levi a lot. 

37. Cat AU. Everyone’s a cat (duh). Not really our AU, but it has its own tag, and it’s only asks. 

38. Tiny founder Eren AU?? Again, not really our AU, but now it has its own tag.

hi everyone! i’m here with something a little different from my usual pick a card readings to celebrate 100 followers on twentytarot! it’s been just 2 short months since i’ve embarked on this journey to learn about reading for others and i’m really grateful for the support that the community has shown me since day 1. so i thought i would write about the spread i usually use for pick-a-card readings and give everyone a few tips and tricks that will hopefully be useful for you when you read tarot. thanks again for all your support, and i’ll see you in my next PAC reading! 🥰 

the spread i use is a super simple 5-card spread with no fixed positions. i’ve seen people call this spread the intuitive spread or the storyboard spread, and reading it is pretty simple: you ask your question, determine the number of cards you will need (like i said, i use 5, but 2, 3 or 7 is also common), then pull your cards and line them up single file. then comes the hard part: actually understanding what the cards are saying, without having any real guides other than the question itself. i used to struggle with not knowing where to begin, how the cards linked or what each card meant when i was bombarded with so many different interpretations. these steps helped me become much more concise of a reader, and i hope they help you too! without further ado:

TIP ONE: COMMIT

and by commit, i mean: commit to your question and commit to your cards. you want your mind to be as uncluttered as possible when you ask your question so you can be sure when the cards show themselves they’re answering the question you had in mind. ask just one question per spread to avoid getting confused about which cards are answering which question. in this spread, your question is your guide, so you have to be extra clear and specific. if you intend to have 5 cards in your spread, then stick to 5 cards. especially in the beginning, don’t take extra cards just because they all fell out at the same time. if 7 cards dropped out of your hard at the same time, i encourage you to put them back and try again.

TIP TWO: COMMIT (again)

this tip is more on negative cards. don’t worry, i completely empathise with the panic that happens when the five of cups presents itself as the final card in the spread. i’ve seen people deal with this a few ways: some people pretend they didn’t see that and draw again. i really don’t recommend this. life is not always unicorns and butterflies, and redrawing a card is not going to change that. at best, your cards empathise and frame their answer more nicely, but at worst, you draw a meaningless card because of you’re panicking and not listening to your intuition, or your cards just straight up decide they’ve had enough. so commit to that negative card, and put it down on your spread.

the other way i’ve seen readers deal with this is to immediately draw clarifiers. i also don’t really advise this. for one, that’s not committing to the number of cards your spread was going to have, which is going to affect accuracy. for another, it’s going to clutter your mind. it’s going to cause you to want to zoom into the bad card and get to the bottom of it and you’re going to subconsciously neglect the other cards just because they didn’t worry you as much. a spread like this should be taken as a whole story, and you can’t just read one chapter and know everything about it, can you?

instead, i recommend that you leave that card alone first, and zoom out. there’s only one ten of swords card in the stack, buddy. i promise you, you’re not going to get fatally betrayed five times.

TIP THREE: ZOOM OUT

the best way to make sure you don’t leave any cards out while reading is to read them all at one go first. these are the things i pay attention to when i first look at a spread, in the order:

major arcana: are most cards major or minor arcana? are they generally positive or negative? what are the cards’ astrological equivalents, and do they link or hold any significance? for example, if your spread has temperance and the devil, then that suggests this prediction might come true towards the end of the year.

court cards: again, i’m looking for astrological significance here, and linking it to the major arcana if needed. i’m also looking for double counts (eg: queen of swords and justice) that would give hints about the people influencing the situation. there are also some cards that means certain people to me and my cards, so i’m also looking out for that.

dominant suit: i like to call this the “expectations vs reality” clue. for example, if i’m reading for romance and the spread is full of swords and pentacles, then unless i’m offset by some major arcana, i can be quite sure that romance isn’t really in my near future. of course, the cards can still be read for romance and i will, but it sets the scene. similarly, if i’m reading for work and i get cups all around, then the work itself is probably not going to be my main problem.

dominant number: this doesn’t give as much information as the previous steps, but it does help with setting the scene and vibe. for example, many 1s would suggest new, good beginnings, and 5s may hint towards tougher days in the future. for major arcana bigger than 10, add the digits together until you get a number 10 or less to get the representative number.

TIP FOUR: FIND THE “PARTITION”

this sometimes appears as a card, or an imaginary line. basically, it helps you zoom into sections of the spread and tie these sections together. “partition cards” are usually:

the only major arcana card in the spread

the one card with a completely different vibe / category than the cards surrounding it

the one court card in the spread

the one ace in the spread

and imaginary lines are usually:

between cards of two different suits

between patterns in cards (for example: page, minor arcana [break] page, minor arcana...)

between the last major arcana and first minor arcana card (or the other way around)

between sets of cards with different vibes

it’s not uncommon for more than one of these to show up in a spread, and sometimes they contradict themselves. sometimes there will be a tiebreaker. take this spread for example:

the king of swords is the only court card, but the ace of pentacles is also the only ace. where’s the partition? well, i’d personally place it at the ace of pentacles. notice how on the left of the ace if the four of cups: low in energy, lethargic. on the right are much more active cards. so the ace must be the game changer, making it the partition card!

the partition, depending on the question, means a lot of things. most commonly it points you to what causes a shift in energy for the querent. in the spread above, a new beginning will breathe new life into the querent and bring them out of their slump. other times, each side of the partition answers different parts of the question. either way, finding the partition will help you figure out where the querent is coming from, and where they’re headed. once you know this, then you can zoom into the individual cards and look for specific messages for your querent.

TIP FIVE: YOU AND YOUR CARDS KNOW EACH OTHER BEST

i try my best not to interpret others’ cards. sometimes i do, but usually it’s just for personal practice and i don’t tell them what i’m thinking, and other times i’m just trying to convince myself mark lee and i are meant to be. 😂 i kid, i kid. anyway, the point is that there are many ways to say the same thing in tarot, and the reason why your cards have chosen to say it the way they have is because they trust this is the way you will best understand. so don’t take that for granted! really take every card and stare at it until you know exactly what it’s trying to tell you. sometimes it’s instant, sometimes you only get it as you’re falling asleep, but you should trust that this message was written for you to understand, not for you to decipher. the more you trust your cards, the more they will trust you.

Update on me, WoX & my WoFT Art! :)

So, what happened to me on World of Fairy Tales, where did I go? Why haven’t I been posting any of my site art on here for a little while already? Let’s get on with it! It’s gonna be... interesting to say as least!

Bare with me as I try to explain this all, it’s gonna be confusing to those who have no clue what WoX and WoFT is, but I know many who check out my Tumblr came from WoX so I’d like to explain what happened to those who are interested in it! As many know already a lot has happened the past week, I tried to write this before but I was way too emotional at that time to put my thoughts and feelings down without it becoming an extreme rant, so I am going to try to keep it as polite as possible, but don’t be surprised if that won’t work out because... well... You’ll see what I mean... 

For around 3 years I’ve been part of the project we call World of Fairy Tales today, together with many of my friends we have put an extreme amount of work into every aspect of the site! You’d think after 3 years worth of time being put into a site, working together with the higher up there would be some sort of trust between the higher-ups and the MoM of World of Fairy Tales! Well, you’d be wrong! And it has been shown once again that the mugwumps decide to deal with issues through hypocrisy and favoritism! Now... I won’t go into what exactly happened since I am not the best at explaining the whole story, since it’s not as simple. I have decided to step down from my position as Artist, WoFT, and WoX as a whole, effective immediately. I can't work any longer on a project which openly shows favoritism, lack of open communication, and understanding, and hypocrisy. If there’s one thing I cannot tolerate, it is that. I don’t want to see any of my friends being hurt by it once again. 

it hurts to be leaving it so suddenly, yet right now there really is just no other way than this. World of Fairy Tales will never again be as it used to be. We used to be such a close community, the vibe was much better than any other site I’ve been part of on WoX and I am so grateful for all the good things that happened to me because of WoFT <3 But just like many others, I will be leaving the hellhole that it has become. 

So most of the people who check out my Tumblr come from the World of X sites. and those who know me from there also know that I have made around let’s say ...300(not too sure, not gonna lie.) drawings in total for multiple sites, but mainly World of Fairy Tales. What going to happen now that I am choosing to leave completely? The 200 drawings that are currently still up on World of Fairy Tales will hopefully be taken down in the coming weeks. Since the site is still up (For now, it honestly will not surprise me if they will take it offline due to lack of management after everyone decided to step down together with us.) I’ve come to the agreement that I will give them the time to get a different artist to redraw every single item of mine. (This includes the 70 Fairy Tale Cards Collection, which they could already take offline if they wanted since they can toggle the cards off in the admin until they would have new art for it lol) The 130 other items in the stores is a different story, since users have bought these items IG, it wouldn’t be fair to delete these items since that would mean they would disappear from their inventories. I don’t want any more unfair things to happen, the regular users have nothing to do with what happened so I wouldn’t want the hard work they have put into getting some of these items to be for nothing! 

What will happen with the art? Will it be used for something else?

I have saved every single drawing of WoFT on my PC, quite a few of my drawings can already be found on this Tumblr page! I possibly will be uploading these items to Tumblr but I am not sure if I want to go through the tedious process of uploading every single drawing hahaha. So give me some time to sort it all out!

On a last note;

Thank you so much for everyone who believed in me when no one else would, you all are my dearest friends and I wouldn't want that to change. I basically spend my whole teen years on these WoX sites, so it is weird for it to be changing. Again, thank you for all the support and love.I will be taking my leave, for now, it's not easy for me at all but I think it is best, and a break might be nice as well haha. Tarot cards: The Devil, The Lovers, Page of Cups, 10 of Wands, 3 of Pentacles, 3 of Wands, King of Swords, Queen of Cups, The Hanged Man

Okay so I did a bit of a different spread for this reading - it’s one i found online a few weeks ago and have been wanting to test out. In this spread the top two cards represent you and your person, the middle three are your person’s thoughts and feelings towards you and the bottom thee (or four in this case) are about your chances and advice for increasing those chances. 

You have come out as The Devil which isn’t as bad as it sounds lmao. It may be a connection to your star sign - the Devil is associated with Capricorn so if you’re an earth sign that may be why it’s come out. The Devil is also related to playfulness and mystery and, more negatively, addiction and materialism, so they may be traits of yours that the cards are picking up on. Don’t worry if it doesn’t seem to fit though. Interestingly this card is also associated with choice.  This was actually the second attempt I made at this reading. The first time I only got a couple of cards in and got interrupted so decided just to redraw everything since I’d lost the flow of what I was doing but in that first try you came out as the 2 of Swords which is also about decision making and choice. 

B has come out as The Lovers which is definitely a good sign for you. Astrologically it’s associated with Gemini so if B is an air sign that could be the connection. The Lovers are also related to virtue, attraction, overcoming trials. B may have been through a tough time and that’s what the cards are picking up on or it may be that they are very compatible with you. In the first attempt at this reading they came out as The High Priestess and both that card and the Lovers can be associated with intuition (though it’s stronger in the high priestess) so it may be they are a very intuitive person. 

B sees you as the Page of Cups - cheerful, a bit of a dreamer, maybe a little sensitive. Affectionate, friendly, charming. They think about you as the 10 of wands, accomplished and responsible and hard working. It may also indicate that they think about you a lot. You are constantly on their mind even when they don’t necessarily want to be thinking about you. And the card for how they feel about you is the 3 of pentacles. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the 3 of pents is a great card for relationships and potential new romances. It’s about teamwork and collaboration. They want to build something with you. 

The 3 of wands represents your current chances. Sometimes this card can indicate a situationship rather than a real relationship - not quite committed to each other, maybe just casual, just about sex rather than deeper feelings, based on short term desires rather than long term goals - which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes things that start out casual and undefined grow into stronger bonds and long term exclusive partnerships. Although, in the context of the rest of the cards I feel like this is more about potential. There is potential there for a relationship to happen. It’s a card that’s very much looking ahead rather than into the past or present. You are in the moments before a potential new adventure. 

King of Swords and Queen of Cups popped out of the deck together so I took them both as important. They’re telling you how to increase your chances with B. This is interesting because the king of swords is very disconnected from emotions - he thinks about things logically, he puts his thoughts ahead of his feelings. It’s a very analytical card, sometimes indicating an inability (or unwillingness) to change opinion. But the Queen of Cups is quite the opposite. She is in connection with her emotions, though she doesn’t let them overwhelm her, she serves others, she’s empathetic and kind and compassionate. She pays attention to what her heart says as well as her head. You need to find the balance between the two. This isn’t a situation where you can approach it logically and see everything as black or white, it requires heart as well. The queen’s cup is covered though so she isn’t spilling her guts to anyone who’ll listen, she chooses who to share herself with. It isn’t screaming i love you from the top of a hill but it isn’t denying attraction or feelings either. 

There’s a phrase in the keywords for the queen that says “actions help a dream become real” and that is what’s jumping out at me. To increase your chances with B, you need to take action in some way. This is confirmed by the Hanged Man card which represents general advice from the cards. When the hanged man comes up in love readings it’s often a sign that you need to change something. It could be changing your perspective, believing you have a shot with them if you’ve been feeling like they’re entirely out of your league and they’d never go for someone like you. Or it could be about doing something differently - striking up a conversation with them if you get the opportunity, or taking an interest in something they’re interested in. Whatever it is, the point is you can’t just watch them from a distance and hope for the best, you have to act to get the ball rolling. 

Your oracle cards were super interesting! SO I drew the first heart card which was Soul Mate - Your soul mate is already with you in spirit. Believe this and they will manifest physically. If you believe in the whole concept of soul mates and all of that you can take it as it says or, if that isn’t really for you then take it as there being potential for a strong connection. The point is you have to believe it’s possible, you have to believe you have a chance, before anything can happen. Manifestation is about putting out the energy you want to get back - if you’re only thinking negatively then negative things are going to happen. But Manifestation also requires action, you can’t just say to the universe “i’m ready for love” and have someone zoom over to you instantly, you have to make an effort of some sort, even if it’s as simple as getting a friend to talk to them or saying hi as you pass each other on the street. 

Similarly you got the True Love romance angel, so again, if the concept of ~true love~ isn’t your jam, consider it a deep connection or a strong bond or whatever way you want to take it. 

As I was trying to get a second heart card two popped out, the first is: Give thanks for the blessings of love soon to come your way. Know that you deserve to be and have all that your heart truly desires. And the second is: Passion - A magnetic and seductive quality surrounds you at present. Enjoy it!

It seems like something could come of this very soon if you give it the chance. 

Your love oracle is Elizabeth Taylor. These cards have three messages, one for one night stands, one for long term relationships and breakups and the third for family and friends. I’ll include all three of them but it may be that only one resonates for you.

Don’t run so fast that you can’t be caught / You can be a big fan of marriage - just be an even bigger fan of diamonds / True friends last longer than marriage, however many times you marry. 

There’s a couple of things I’m getting from this. Firstly, playing hard to get is fine but you have to let them catch you eventually. Secondly, the true friends bit makes me think maybe the way to have something happen is to become friends first (maybe you already are?). You may get other meaning from this card though since you know the situation best. 

Then we have the Moon oracle. I don’t normally draw these for love readings but I felt called to and you got New Moon Eclipse - Expect Powerful Change. This is pure affirmation that the outcome you desire can happen. Possibly quite soon. 

And finally you have 3 cards from the Secret Garden deck.  Dare - Take a risk and fly / Play - Among the grass and wild violets lie undisturbed little secrets to uncover / Be Present - Use the hours; don’t count them. 

Again the cards seem to be telling you to act. Don’t just wait for things to happen, make them happen.

Week 3 - Part 2

The second part of this task was a lot more challenging than the first. Originally, i thought it would be simple and easy to visualise like the first part. It took me a very long time to figure out how to draw the auxiliary view. In my first attempt, i had drawn the side CD 10mm longer than it should have been, this resulted in a very odd looking auxiliary view that did not seem to match the cube. It took me many attempts and a very long time before i figured out what i had done wrong. Even after correcting the length of the cube, i still had to redraw the cross section a few times before getting it right. (Image 1 and 2)

In the future, i will make sure to label all the sides necessary even during draft form as this would help me and prevent me from being confused and careless. I should have already learnt from previous exercises that shortcuts always end up wasting more time.

For the model, i used a 200gsm card so that the model would be more sturdy. First i drew a template of the box as i decided it would be easier to piece the box together as a template rather than individual surfaces (i forgot to photograph the template). I then used the back of a scapel to score the fold lines, and the blade to cut the outlines. I made sure to include ample flap space for gluing. I used pva glue to complete the box. The glue took a long time to dry and the box had started falling apart so i held onto the box as it dried. (Image 3)

In hindsight, i should have wedged the model in between some weights while drying as it would have been less messy, more efficient and would have freed my hands.

Overall, this exercise was definitely the hardest one so far as it made me so confused. I had a really hard time drawing the different viewpoints and the model was difficult to make. I hope to make cleaner models in the future that are less grubby looking than the one before.

There are many people who play Magic: the Gathering as either a casual or competitive hobby, and there are many people similarly who play a great deal of board games, but despite both testing similar areas of strategy, there’s less crossover than you would expect.  Magic players are often so invested in the many facets of the game that they would rather play more Magic than play a different game, while board game players see Magic as expensive and inaccessible compared to the games they play.  Personally, I’ve played a lot of magic, having continuously played casually since I was 9 and having competitively played once or twice a week for a 2-3 year period in my early 20s.  I’ve also played a ton of Euro-style board games over the past decade and developed quite a collection.  So I thought it would be interesting to write about Magic from a board gamer’s perspective - how would it hold up if viewed as just another board game?  I’ll be writing this assuming you know nothing about Magic aside from a general idea of what a collectible card game is.

First, I’m going to explain why Magic has been so successful and why it has lasting appeal.  Second, I’m going to touch on a few of the most notorious negative aspects of the game of Magic, such as the financial cost and the luck factor. Finally, I’m going to list a few accessible ways to play Magic and describe how they would hold up as standalone board games.

Strengths

Magic: The Gathering has continued to release new content several times a year, every year for 26 years, and is currently selling more product than ever.  Why has it been so successful?  There are a few main answers.  For one thing, there’s a great deal of strategic depth in any given game.  If playing 1v1, almost every game features a huge number of decision points, any one of which might not matter but the collective whole of which will determine the winner.  A multiplayer setting is similar, but adds in significant political elements and dealmaking.  Even more importantly, with all those years of content, there’s a massive amount of strategic diversity.  Hundreds of thousands of cards have been made, and the vast majority have been designed in an open-ended enough fashion that there are constantly new combinations that can be put together and played with.  In addition, any one given 2-player game of Magic will typically last less than half an hour, giving it a big strategic punch in a short length of time.  I’ve played more hours of Magic by far than any other game, and it’s precisely because of that incredible depth.

Barriers to Entry

This section is going to ignore things that might dissuade someone from playing competitive Magic in, for example, a store, since it’s beyond the scope of this article.  I’m assuming you have a regular group of board game players or regular opponent and you’re wondering if Magic could be a fun experience for you.

Rules Knowledge

Magic has a reputation as a very complex game, which I think is partially deserved and partially undeserved.  It is deep to the extent that because of the constant release of new material and the sheer number of decisions encountered in the course of any one turn or any one game, even players who make their living playing Magic frequently find themselves faced with challenging choices.  On the other hand, compared to a heavy euro or a wargame, it’s very easy to pick up a starter deck, learn the basic rules of Magic, and play a simple deck at a solid level of skill.  I think if you are teaching just the core rules of the game with simple training decks, I would give Magic a weight of about 2.0 on the Boardgamegeek weight scale.  On the other hand, if playing a more complicated, full variant, I would increase that weight accordingly, but never going above a 3.0 or so - I think a couple that can handle Twilight Struggle can certainly handle learning Magic at its most intricate.  Magic also has a reasonably good depth payoff for its complexity.

Luck Factor

The way you play cards in Magic requires you to draw the correct land cards from your deck. Because of this, if you draw too many land cards and not enough creatures and other spells, you will likely lose, and the reverse is true as well.  As a result, even in a 2 player match between an incredibly skilled player and a fairly unskilled player, the unskilled player will have at least a 10-15% winrate.  This might be anathema to a euro player where games feature minimal luck and player interaction, and the most skilled player wins 99% of the time, but it is also easy to work around in a non-tournament setting.  Encouraging people to redraw their hands until they have a reasonable mix of lands and cards they can play would be infeasible in competitive, tournament play of Magic, but there’s no reason that something like it can’t be used for a group that trust no one’s going to use it to unfair advantage.  Alternatively, especially when playing 1v1, it can help to view the game like poker, where any one hand can come down to luck but the overall win percentage never lies.

Financial Cost

Competitive players who enter a ‘Standard’ tournament (playing an optimized deck, but only using cards printed in the last 2 years that are generally relatively cheap) will often have spent $300-500 on their deck, and that isn’t even the most expensive format!  Compared to a typical board game costing $40-80 dollars, a cost that only 1 person has to pay, that seems exorbitant - and it is.  However, we’ll see in my next section that many of the ways to play will cost much less than this and will more approach the cost of a standard board game.

Ways to Play

I’m going to break down a few accessible ways to play Magic without necessarily needing to compete in a financial arms race - I’ll describe each and explain the cost, complexity, replay value, and preparation needed for each.

Pre-Made Decks

Wizards of the Coast has several lines of products that contain either a pair of decks or a set of several decks, all designed to interact well with each other and lead to a balanced, competitive game.  You can buy however many of these as you have players, take them out of the box, and immediately play, either 1v1 or multiplayer.

Cost: $10-$30 per player, depending on the product line.

Complexity: 2.0-2.5, depending on the product line.

Replay value: Medium - you could certainly play many games and have each play out differently, especially with something like the Commander line of products.  However, if you only play with your own deck, you may get bored of the specific playstyle of that deck after 5-10 plays, depending on the product.

Preparation needed: Minimal - 1 person needs to pick up a set of the decks and bring them.

Drafting

The way a booster draft works is that 3 booster packs are needed for each player.  Much like 7 Wonders, the cards in the packs are drafted (each person is looking at a pack, then everyone simultaneously, secretly picks a card to keep and passes the remaining ones), so with 15 card packs everyone ends up with 45 cards each by the end.  They use approximately half of those cards, along with some provided basic lands, to build a 40 card deck, after which you can pair off with various people and play a series of 1v1 games or best-of-3 1v1 matches.

Cost: $10-15 per player per draft.

Complexity: 2.5

Replay value: Low - after an evening of playing with one draft deck, you’re probably going to be ready to move on and draft again, so this can be an expensive form of Magic.

Preparation needed: Minimal - you just need 3 booster packs per player and about 100 basic lands for everyone, which you can buy for $10 or less and re-use each time.

Cube Drafting

The actual gameplay of cube drafting is identical to drafting.  However, the biggest difference is that rather than each player opening 3 booster packs, each player forms their ‘booster packs’ by drawing 15 cards from a large common pool of cards (typically, the common pool contains around 360-720 cards).  After the entire cube draft is over, all of those cards return to the common pool, so a cube is much more like a traditional board game - only one person needs to own a cube, and it can be replayed over and over unlike a traditional booster draft.

Cost: $100-300 to construct a reasonable, fun cube (there are infinitely many places to spend more money throughout this process of course)  This is a total cost, unlike the others which had per-player costs - if you build a 360-card cube this way, it will work for up to 8 people.

Complexity: 2.5-3.0 (a cube will often end up containing a higher frequency of complicated cards with complicated interactions than a booster or premade product will)

Replay value: Very high - even a normal cube can be played over and over, and it’s incredibly easy to swap a small number of cards in or out of the common pool and completely change the player experience.

Preparation needed: A great deal - one person needs to foot the initial expense (or split it), research which cards they want to include, find and purchase all of those cards, and provide basic lands and possibly sleeves (if they have valuable cards they want to protect).

Hopefully this has encouraged some people who might be reluctant to dip their toes into the world of Magic.  It’s got some drawbacks, but overall it certainly is an incredibly rewarding and deep game.

SteamWorld Quest Trailer and Screenshots Analysis Part 1: The Card System and Our Heroes’ cards

I have combed through the trailer and have dug up as many details as I could. Time to present them! Now this is a LONG post, littered with gifs and pictures. Mobile users on data beware.

Before I start, let’s remind ourselves how the card battles work according to the interview with NintenDaan and Brjann Sigurgeirsson:

Daan: “So within the card battles, you have your basic attacks, you have attacks that actually use gears, and depending on how you line up, every time you use cards, you earn a gear. So if you first use a card with no gears attached to it and then use one that simply uses one [gear], you might be able to string those together in combos and just build from there...The big thing you need to keep in mind is knowing how much gears you have. If you let them build up and first just do a few simple attacks, you can do very powerful attacks one after another. Then if they’re all in the same category, they will add a fourth card to the mix that does an ultimate combo. So it’s all about knowing when you should fold or knowing when you should just take it a step back. Like you can redraw cards but that’s not always a guarantee that you’ll get something good. So sometimes you have to roll with the punches, just throw a card out there and just see what happens next turn...Along the way there are chances that you get new cards, and you need to go to a menu and just swap them. Like every character has a set selection...”

Brjaan: “You build your own deck in this game, that’s one of the main things as well. You decide, ‘This is what I’m going to bring to bring on the road if I run into baddies.’ Once the battle starts, you can’t change the deck that you built...

“There are three types of card...like, two of the card types, they sort of facilitate the third type. Two of them build up cogs in a system that we have. If you have enough cogs then you can play this third type of card.”

How about we take a look at these three types of cards?

These cards are standard attack cards. They are adorned with a symbol of a hammer in the corner. They - you guessed it! - are used to deal damage to an enemy.

These are non-attack standard cards. They are adorned with an arrow symbol in the corner. They could do anything from raising a stat to protecting a party member from attacks, among other things.

And these are the cards that require cogs to use. They are adorned with a symbol of an explosion in the corner, while the number of cogs needed for use is shown on the opposite corner. These can be used for either be stat changes or attacks, depending on the card.

You may also notice small symbols underneath the art of the card, but I’ll get to those later.

Our Heroes’ cards in action

In the first battle scene we see in the trailer, we are immediately treated to Armilly showing off a flashy move, jumping up with her sword raised, purple bolts of electricity sparking around her. This is Bane Sword.

As she brings her sword down, her main target is shocked with the purple electricity. This appears to affect any foes around it as well, the other 2 emitting a dark purple cloud of smoke after the attack. But if you look at Armilly after she attacks, there is a noticeable, fiery explosion coming out of her. I  believe that this is recoil damage:

The number by her health bar doesn’t decrease, but the red line within shortens. This shows that Bane Sword is a heavy hitting move, but puts strain on Armilly in the process.

The card itself:

It has a closed fist next to the numbers, showing that it’s an attack card. It deals 780 Hit Points of damage and requires 4 cogs to use.

Next, let’s take a look at one of Galleo’s moves:

(Ignoring Copernica who is clearly up in flames, which I will cover in part 2)

Overcharge appears to heal a teammate before striking the entire opposing party with yellow bolts of lightning. Galleo also shows off some odd magic he appears to possess that involves making shiny silhouettes of tools appear.

This card has a symbol of a heart next to the numbers, which probably means that it’s a healing card. However, it also clearly attacks, so... maybe it damages as much as it heals?

Meteor looks as simple as it sounds; Copernica summons it, it comes crashing down on the enemy.

It’s a cog card, but I’m intrigued by the little fire symbol next to the damage amount. Considering that Copernica herself was on fire in that last gif, maybe this attack has a chance of setting the enemy on fire?

And then Book Bash is one of the last ones we see in action. Copernica literally slaps the enemy with her book and it’s hilarious.

Too bad it doesn’t deal so much damage! But it could be used in a pinch when you need a gear or something.

Sadly Kilovolt wasn’t shown in the trailer, but we have a screenshot of it in use! Looks like Copernica summons a bolt of lightning and shocks the enemy with it, simple as that.

It doesn’t deal a whole lot of damage. Also, I can only make a guess as to what that thundercloud symbol means.

Cards we don’t see in action, but have a general idea of its function

There’s a few screens in the trailer that show what is, presumably, the card menu, and we get a glimpse at some other cards, including the description for three of them. Another description can be seen in a promotional screenshot.

Wait, “Abs of Steel”? Haven’t we heard that somewhere before? ;)

And the rest of the cards

We don’t see these in action, neither do we have a description as to what they do.

In Armilly’s deck:

To Victory: it has a symbol of a sword on it with green arrows. Going back to the “Encourage” card, it had an identical symbol on it, so maybe this one raises attack.

Heroic Strike: Looks like a simple attack card.

Hot Iron: Another attack card, but it has that same fire symbol on it that we saw earlier.

Execute: Looks like it deals a larger amount of damage? Anything else it might do is beyond me.

Intimidating Shout: Has a Sword symbol on it, but with red arrows. Maybe it lowers the enemy’s attack stat.

Rage and Smolder: These were already set into Armilly’s deck, rather than sitting in the menu. There are no other indicators as to what they are besides that they require cogs to use.

Issue Challenge: This one appears to lower the enemy’s attack, but I have no idea what the angry face could mean.

In Copernica’s deck:

Glass Cannon: It has a symbol of a staff on it with green arrows, identical to the one seen on the Encourage card, so it probably raises Magic power.
