Sometimes, a home protection spell is as simple as drawing a sigil in kids' chalk in the sun, putting a nice rock on top of it until the sun goes down, and then putting that rock on a table in your house

Witchcraft and recycling
Wicca, and by extension witchcraft, value nature as both a host and a guest in our lifes. Making the most of our resourses is both financially wise and respectful of our believes and values. It is very easy to emast a wide catalogue of stuff in our every day lifes, harvesting what we can to reuse can be a fun way to recycle.
A few examples of using "scraps" for witchcraft:
recycling paper at home, using opened envelopes to write your spells/notes on;
collecting rainwater to use in spells and for watering plants;
using kitchen scraps (like lemon peels, orange peels, used cinnamon sticks) as offerings;
using the coffee zest for fertiliser (do not worry it is around pH7 and it's perfectly safe for plants and/or composting - I have tested it) or lose tea;
using old/damaged chopsticks as a "beginner wand";
the bottles from cooking extracts (vanilla extract, orange extract) or essential oils bottles are PERFECT for storing seeds and for being spell jars (bonus points because they're so small and cute!);
re-melting remaining wax from candles to form new ones;
using old paintbrushes as a "beginner broom" (especially good for a hidden/small-pocket sized altar);
using an old pot as a cauldron, or thrifting one as needed;
using pressed/dried flowers as offerings;
considering a digital book of shadows (Word is excelent for this, combining it with Excel, can be used in browser for free);
using digital libraries for books of study (@coreycore420 mentioned https://z-lib.org and it's a godly recommandation and tool!);
avoiding essential oils;
using dried pine needles as incense sticks (for outdoor use only);
growing a few herbs used in both spells and cooking in tin cans (starters) then thrifted pots is amazing!;
going around your neighborhood, take a look around the dumpsters or glass collectors, people can throw away usable pots, plastic storage boxes, baskets or jars and glass bottles (make sure to properly clean and clense the item);
if avalable - trade and swap local groups on Facebook can help you thrift with ease, especially if you don't have thrift stores where you live;
using old papers/magazines as packaging/wrapping paper (hello holidays).
With all these corner-cutters, you need to be careful to not hoard items. I have made the mistake of holding to items thinking I can find them an use, my rule of thumb is that 1 month is enough to plan a craft/purpose, and 2 months to execute it, ajust the time to your liking, but don't keep it longer than 6 months overall. Also be prudent with what you plan to reuse, as certain ideas can be dangerous (not me looking at my idea to reuse burned out lightbulbs and cutting myself by mistake), so don't force anything.
I want to highlight an important aspect: you doing all these things, bending your way back to have a lesser impact on the environment, is not going to make the big impat you dream of. Take it as "I'm doing my part to respect my host and my believes", or as a challange. Do not sadden youself for your waste, as most of the time it is forced upon you.
Nowadays you can opt out of certain waste (opting for no cutlery if buying takeaway, bringing your own coffee cup/thermos to a coffee shop to avoid the paper cups, bringing your own reusable straws, using trays or silicone ice cubes instead of using the plastic ice-maker packs, etc.). There are little changes you can make, or ask for, in your life in order to minimise your waste, or just to save some money.
Please take care of yourself out there!

Witch Tips- Crystal Deodorant
What? A witchcraft related post on this blog you followed for witchcraft related things?! Absolutely wild.
No but this is actually a purely secular witchcraft related thing which I feel like I haven't posted something like that in ages. So buckle up, it's going to be a long one.
Anyway....
I am a very reasonable hippie. I love "unnatural" things like my contact lenses, antidepressants, and vaccines, but I also tend to seek out the green or more natural version of things provided that
A- It actually does what it says it does
And B- the price and effort required doesn't outweigh the benefits
And this new thing that I've been trying for the past 3 months or so definitely meets those criteria and is a great addition to my witchy toolbox: crystal deodorant.
What the hell is that?
It's a salt rock that you use as deodorant.
No I'm not joking.
I've been looking into a few different natural deodorant options for awhile now, simply because there's a lot of conflicting research on the long-term effects of ingredients in antiperspirants (aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens, various fragrances, etc.)
Again, I'm not against artificial ingredients solely because they're artificial. Everything is chemicals, after all. But as I've been studying for my personal trainer certification exam, I"ve learned more about the importance of being able to sweat during physical activity. Antiperspirants clog sweat glands. That's how they work. The armpits also contain lymph nodes, which filter out any bacteria/bad compounds that eventually excrete through waste. So the less work I can make for them, the better.
But most DIY "natural" deodorant recipes suck. Maybe for those that live in colder climates or aren't as physically active, they could work.
Native Deodorant, which is probably the most popular natural one on the market right now is thirteen dollars for a single stick. No thanks.
Crystal deodorant though- that's a game changer.
Tumblr media
There are various brands, but this is the one I tried. About 5-6 dollars depending on where you buy which is about the same as the Old Spice I used to use, maybe a dollar more.
It's a literal stick of mineral salts. You apply it onto wet skin (or run the stick under water briefly), and it deposits a layer of particles that are too small to absorb into the skin but kills any bacteria that accumulates as you sweat. It's advertised as lasting 24 hours with no odor. I've found that I can get 18-24 depending on the weather and my activity level.
Y'all- this thing works. I've been out working in the garden in 90 degree weather, sweating like crazy, but no smell. No residue getting on my clothes, no fragrance or other things that might irritate sensitive skin. It also lasts quite a bit longer since you're not using a ton of product per application. I've been using it for nearly three months straight and my stone is barely smaller than it was when I first got it.
The few drawbacks is that it's kind of hard to take with you and reapply quickly. You have to get the stone wet/put it on wet skin for it to work so it's not something you can just throw on at random.
If you've been using standard antiperspirant for awhile, it's common to sweat more/smell worse the first few days using natural products. Mixing a bit of ACV with baking soda or bentonite clay and applying it like a mask before a shower will drastically reduce that "transition" time period.
I typically put it on right after I shower but be warned- don't put it on right after you shave. Because even if you didn't cut yourself, shaving still creates micro-abrasions on your skin that fucking hurt if you put salt on them. Literal salt in a wound. (Found this out the hard way)
Kate, this is neat but why is it witchy?
It's a massive stick of salt! Salt is a key component in many spells for cleansing and especially protection. I drew a simple sigil on the bottom of the stick and now I've incorporated a mini protection spell into my daily routine. This kind of spell is so helpful especially if you get into a rut/have trouble maintaining a regular practice.
I hope this is helpful for y'all, if you have any questions about natural skincare/hygiene products please message me because I love talking about this stuff. (I could write a full essay on my diva cup, for real) Or you can just message me in general to say hi! I'm traveling for a wedding this week so I may not be able to respond right away but I'm always down for making new witchy friends.
Have a wonderful day fellow witches, brightest of blessings!-Kate

Every time you light a candle you are doing a spell. You do so with the intention to banish unpleasantness and create positive energy.
You invoke earth and water (how the candle was created) and fire and air (in lighting it to permeate the air) to create this energy.

quick and easy spell structure
works for any intention. all you need is:
- a sheet of paper with a sigil marking your intention or a colour that corresponds to it
- a tealight (if you don’t have any markers/colouring pencils etc you can carve a sigil into the base of the tealight too)
- a song for your intention
place the tealight on the paper and light it, listen to the song, vibe and focus, and blow the candle out when it’s over. If you don’t have a lot of time, this is really handy bc it requires very little prep work and most songs are like 3-5 minutes or something.
But, if it suits you, you can make this more complex with herbs and crystal chips and a whole damn playlist if you want, so I think it makes a good base if your preference is for something bigger and longer.

Fellow witches and practitioners, I come with a sweet, simple and closet-friendly tip/reminder!
✨You CAN make your altar DIGITAL✨
Let me explain:
For multiple reasons, you may not have an altar and (unlike myself) you don't need to feel bad for not having one set up properly. You can take your preffered game that has furniture placement and make an altar in it. You can also use any drawing medium to create one.
For games, Sims comes first to mind. It is very easy with the Realm of Magic pack to create an altar, but you can also get the base game for free and delve into CC (custom content) and pick basic elements of an altar (cauldron, candles, broom, knife, wand, etc.) but also embelishments. Skyrim has the possibility of making an altar in your own house (altho I am not very sure about it, as it's not my chosen medium). Animal Crossing New Horizon also gives us a plethora of items that we can create an altar with. Bonus points for the portability of a Switch, you can bring your virtual altar with you all the time. I've been experimenting with Genshins' housing system and the posibility of creating an altar in there too, I am sure it can be done.
For drawing, making one in your Book of Shadows could be an amazing addition to it! You can also make it so you can place some items on it, as example crystals or plant-offerings. It doesn't need to be artistically created, just the existence of it is enough. You can use pictures or drawings that others made if that would be easier for you, either printing the picture or putting it into a medium as Goodnotes or a PDF you might have on your phone is also a good solution. You could also make it your desktop/wallpaper if you chose so.
Please note that it may not feel like a real altar, you can't interract with it in the same way you would with a physical altar. Treat it as a mini-altar version, a visualiser that will aid you in your prayer, spell making and meditation. Just having one, be it physical, virtual or paper-based, may bring you some happiness and tune you in with your practices. It's also impostant to state that a lack of altar doesn't make you less of a practitioner! Walking slowly is still walking, it matters more that you enjoy yourself and you find importance in your practice.
Stay safe folks ❤️, blessed be!
