The Dark Crystal of Selicia
Chapter 2-Rose Thorns
Natsu stared into the blue abyss of the crystal, he could sense the evil from within. He stretched his hand out with caution, hesitant anticipation enveloped him as he firmly grasped the stone. Instantly he felt a wave of dread wash over him. His mind felt cloudy, but he was still in control. He noticed he was confused, not really sure about anything in particular.
"Natsu?" He heard Lucy ask.
"Im fine-!" As he turned to look at her, he was caught off. Suddenly his heart ached and he clutched his hand to his chest as he fell to his knees. He could hear Lucy rushing to his side, but he didn't want her to come near him. He grabbed onto her shoulder in a tight grip.
Lucy's eyes full of worry and horror as she realized that Natsu's face had drastically changed. The once cheerful smile was replaced with a terrible grimace, eyes foggy and bent in fury.
"Natsu..." Lucy begged for him to return to his senses.
In one abrupt movement, Natsu rose to his feet and held Lucy by the throat, lifting her from the ground. This was not the same Natsu, this was definitely bad.
"Natsu stop!" Happy pulled at Natsu's arm, attempting to pull Lucy away.
Lucy slammed her foot into Natsu's stomach, he cried out and dropped her. She sprinted a good distance away to regain here bearings. She surveyed the scene, Natsu was overflowing with pure rage.
Resentment towards her and Happy, he seemed so furious that he couldn't speak. So enthralled by anger, no words were necessary. Hands and feet aflame he surged forward aiming for his target...Lucy.
"Snap out of it!" Lucy receded, not wanting to fight her friend.
A flash of blue caught her eye, Natsu has dropped the crystal. Maybe if she could destroy it, the curse would break as well. Lucy dodged another fiery advance and leaped for the stone. Grasping it in her hand, she was reminded that curse could effect her. However nothing happened, the shimmering stone had lost its glow. Now looking empty and dead, it seemed as though it could only affect one person at a time. Natsu with the strength of the gem should be able to demolish it.
Without waiting for Natsu to attack, she ran towards him, slamming the jagged geode into his face. He cried out out in pain and anguish. Lucy's theory proved correct, small pieces of the rock started to crumble. Snapping her head up she heard Natsu's familiar sound, drawing breath in preparation for his Roar. This was her chance to end it. She ran straight to Natsu, not fearing his oncoming raid.
Fire spewed as his hot breath closed in on Lucy. Aiming the crystal for the hottest point of the flames, she plunged her hand into the fire. Excruciating pain griddled her right arm, holding in her scream the smokey stream ceased. Dropping her badly burned arm, the stone cracked and shattered into powder. Sighing in relief she turned her head to Natsu, but he hadn't altered his behavior.
"Happy!" Lucy yelled to Happy, who seemed to be frozen in both fear and confusion. "Something is wrong, Natsu isn't turning back. Go tell Fairy Tail and get help."
"Im not going to leave either of you!" He cried. "I wanna help."
Natsu charged at Lucy, she held her hands up in defense. She was knocked over with such force she flew into the forest behind her.
"Go Happy!" She demanded.
Reluctantly the brave exceed fled for help. Lucy climbed to her feet. Her expression concealed by her hair.
"Im not going to fight you Natsu." He advanced yet again, Lucy retreated further into the trees.
"This isn't you, come back to me!"
Her plea went unheard, as blow after blow rained down upon her.
Natsu's mind was hidden so far back, his only goal was to exterminate. It was equal strength to his past instincts to protect. His mind drowned completely in red and white, his body seemed to act on its own.
The battered woman before him was his enemy, wasn't she? He couldn't remember why he was filled with such hatred towards her. What had she done that was so bad?
A strange ache flickered in his deep conciseness, a feeling of grief. The more she suffered the worse this feeling became. His hand swiftly lifted to his cheek, a tear fell from his violent image. He was quite taken back, he hardly ever cries, he could count all the times he'd cried on his hands! Why was this woman so special? He didn't like this feeling of doubt, he wanted to erase it. He had to kill her.
Lucy barely had the strength to stand, her magical energy was completely drained, the only thing keeping her going was her determination to save Natsu. She was covered in bloody burns, the skin on her arm withered away and several of her ribs were broken. Her vision blurred in and out of focus, she couldn't stay conscious much longer.
In her daze she noticed Natsu raise a hand to his face and wipe away...a tear!? Her Natsu was still in there, she had to get him back. However he did not seem pleased about his shed droplet, it only made his temper rise. His entire body alight as he roared in aggression, charging at full speed. Deadly attack aimed right for her, she hadn't the strength to attack or defend. She simply spread her wounded arms out as if he was leaping into her arms, smiled and whispered.
"I love you."
