Devin's Dude Ranch: Episode Six

*the episode opens with a shot of Echo Valley Ranch at night. Crickets can be heard singing and there's an owl hooting off in the distance somewhere.*

*the contestants are sitting around the living room, engaged in various activities, oblivious to what's about to happen*

*suddenly, the door to Devin's room swings open and she exits. she makes her way to the living room.*

*she stops in front of the fire place. confused, everyone stops what they're doing and turn their attention to her. she can tell they're nervous, so she smiles at them reassuringly*

Devin: "Good evening, fellas. I have an announcement to make. Earlier I received a note instructing me to pick two of you for a date. Tonight."

*the guys shift in their seats and lean closer*

Devin (continues): "And I've decided to pick two people I haven't gotten to spend a lot of time with. So, with that being said. If you would be so kind, I would like for...

Devin (continues): "Stan and..."

*Stan smiles up at Devin and nods*

Devin (continues): "Milo to join me tonight."

*Milo beams at her from across the room, barely able to contain his excitement*

Devin: "Alright, you two. Go put on something warm and meet me outside in the back pasture in twenty minutes."

*after a time lapse, the next scene shows a sped-up shot of Stan and Milo approaching Devin outside. She's standing in front of a makeshift movie screen*

Devin (cheerfully): "Hi guys! I thought we'd watch a movie tonight. Have some popcorn, chat. That kind of thing. What do you think?"

*Milo steps forward and nearly trips over his feet*

Milo: "That sounds amazing!"

Devin: "Easy there, cowboy."

*Stan smiles apologetically at Devin, unassumingly on Milo's behalf before speaking up:*

Stan: "Count me in."

*the three take their seats on the crates opposite the screen*

Stan: "Thanks so much for picking us to come out with you tonight. I'm just happy to get more time with you, and the fewer guys that are around the better."

*Devin chuckles*

Devin: "I can image. I'm sure this is hard for you all. Especially as things progress."

Stan: "It hasn't gotten any easier. But, you're worth puttin' up with all the others for, Devin. 'Least till I run 'em off."

*Milo scoffs*

Devin: "That's very sweet of you to say, Stan. Unless you're Milo..."

*Milo grunts in agreement but doesn't interrupt*

Devin (continues): "So, tell me. What are you looking for in your next relationship?"

Stan: "We're just divin' right in?"

*Devin smiles*

Devin: "That's what the show's about, they tell me."

*Stan shrugs*

Stan: "Fair enough. I want an equal partner. Someone I can rely on when the chips are down just as much as she can rely on me. A lover. A friend. Someone to raise a family with. And grow old with. That unconditional love type of bond that will survive a hundred lifetimes and countless battle scars. You know, I've been married twice now. Lost my first wife to leukemia. And my second one, well, turns out she didn't care for me much. So, I'm hoping what they say is true; 'third time's a charm.' and all."

*Devin sits back, visibly moved by his answer*

Devin: "Thank you for being so genuine, Stan. That means a lot. I'm sorry to hear about your first wife. And, well, all of it. You deserve better than that and I hope you find what you're looking for."

*Stan smiles at her*

Stan: "Thank you, Devin. I appreciate it."

*Devin then turns to Milo*

Devin: "What about you, Milo? What are you looking for in your next relationship?"

Milo: "Well, full disclosure, I haven't been in a 'relationship' since high school. And she shattered my heart into a million pieces, so it didn't end well. But, what I learned from that experience is that I want to be with someone who wants the same things out of life. If they're not going to support my dreams it's not going to work and vice versa, you know? And everything else Stan said sounds about right too."

Devin: "Okay. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your candidness."

*Milo grins at Devin*

Milo: "You're most welcome."

*Stan can be heard grumbling under his breath just off camera. something about "stealing his answer."*

*Devin returns her attention back to Stan*

Devin: "Okay, here's a fun question. Since we're getting ready to watch a movie, what's your favorite genre?"

Stan: "Easy. Western. But especially westerns mixed with sci-fi. I love both, honestly."

Devin: "That is the most you answer I've ever heard."

*Stan chuckles*

Stan: "What about you, missy?"

Devin: "Oh, I'm a horror fan. 100%"

Stan: "What, you like all the blood, guts, and stuff?"

Devin: "No. I'm more into the creepy, supernatural stuff. The kind that makes you question whether or not it's really happening."

Stan: "Oh, yeah. I like those. I can't stand the gore-fests, though."

Devin: "I'm not a big fan of them either. It feels cheap."

*Devin turns to Milo again*

Devin: "What about you?"

Milo: "You're going to laugh."

*Devin and Stan speak up at the same time:*

Stan: "Probably."

Devin: "We won't."

*Milo sighs and stares at the ground before muttering:*

Milo: "Musicals."

Stan: "Did the boy just say musicals?"

Devin: "He did."

Milo: "Look, I'm a musician okay? I enjoy the music. The singing. The dancing. They almost always have a happy ending. What's not to love?"

Stan: "The fact that they're terrible."

*Devin pinches her nose to try to stop the snort laugh that escapes anyway*

*after choking it back she says:*

Devin: "There's nothing wrong with that, Milo. Let's, uh, watch our movie."

*the film begins to roll*

Stan: "What movie is it?"

Devin: "Hamilton."

*Stan lets out a whimper and Milo gasps in excitement*

*Devin giggles*

Devin: "I'm totally messing with you, dude."

*Stan sighs with relief and Milo looks deflated*

Devin: "It's Saw X."

*They both look at her in horror*

*She cackles this time*

Devin: "Calm down. It's College Cram."

*the group enjoy cheddar popcorn as they watch the movie*

*when the movie is over, Devin turns to Milo*

Devin: "Milo, I had fun with you tonight. Thanks for hanging out with me."

Milo: "Anytime. And I mean that."

*Devin then turns to Stan*

Devin: "Stan, you are always entertaining to be around, but I really appreciate you opening up to me tonight."

*Stan looks both surprised and pleased*

Stan: "It was my pleasure. I look forward to our next time together."

Devin: "Alright, fellas. It's time to head back in. I'm cold and I don't know about you, but my bed is calling my name."

*at that, the three get to their feet and prepare to say their good nights*

*Stan pulls Devin into a hug and after a few beats they separate and he heads back toward the house*

Stan, in diary room: "Tonight felt good. It felt good to get more time with Devin, especially with less competition around. And it felt good to get my history off my chest. She's a good gal. Women like her are rare. I knew already liked her, but tonight makes me want to fight for her even harder now."

*Milo hugs Devin, but as she pulls away, he reaches up, cradles her face, and plants a kiss on her mouth. she is clearly caught by surprise and doesn't really move to kiss him back. after a moment he pulls away, smiles down at her and then turns and walks back toward the house. she's left standing there, confused.*

Milo, in diary room: "Yeah, tonight was awesome. I knew I had to get out of my head and be bold if I was going to make an impression on Devin. So, I kissed her," *laughs nervously in recollection* "I've never done anything like that," *stands there a moment, thinking back and then his face falls* "Oh, Watcher. What have I done?"

Devin, in diary room: "Tonight was...interesting. I mean, I really enjoyed hanging out with Stan and Milo. And I felt Stan opening up to me, but I'm still don't really feel a romantic connection. There hasn't been that jolt like I've felt with some of the other guys. Which I hate because I really like him as a person.

And then there's, Milo. What was going on with him tonight? There was this level of immaturity happening that I didn't see before and it kind of turned me off to be honest. And the way he kissed me....it was just odd. I'm honestly just really confused about the whole thing."

Hyacinthus is a bit of a partier, and honestly, they've never really left the 70s and 80s.

Cadence Sumner - Some of her routines

Mornings can be either her walking her dog Maxine or meeting her brother Kade and his husband Matareka for coffee.

Afternoons depends on if she has a model or acting gig.  She will either spend it with Maxine at home. Sometimes she will meet her uncle Evan and his new girlfriend Antonia at the Myshuno Outdoor Market if they are in town.

Nights are dedicated to clubbing with her two best friends Violet and Asher who are in the same industry as her.

Devin's Dude Ranch: Episode Two (Part Three)

*as Devin enters the house, Houston is standing near the kitchen. it appears he's been waiting for her. her face instantly lights up when she sees him*

Devin: "Well hello there, stranger."

*Houston grins*

Houston: "I may be strange, but to you, I certainly never want to be a stranger."

Devin: "There you go again. Knowing exactly the right thing to say."

Houston: "I'm just speaking from the heart."

*they share an intense moment of eye contact, and after a few beats Houston speaks up:*

Houston: "Would you like to go somewhere more private and talk?"

Devin (softly): "Yes," *she clears her throat, regaining her confidence* "Let's go upstairs."

*the next shot opens with Devin and Houston standing in the library*

Houston: "I have to be honest. I've been dying to get time with you all night."

*Devin's cheeks redden slightly as she battles the smile the threatens to break out*

Devin: "Is that so?"

*Houston takes a step closer*

Houston: "Yes. I want to know everything there is to know about you."

*Devin laughs nervously*

Devin: "The funny thing is, I suddenly can't remember a single fact about me...You're ummm..."

*their eyes meet*

Houston: "I'm what?"

Devin: "Distracting."

*Houston grins and takes another step closer*

Houston: "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be."

*Devin bites her lower lip and looks away*

Devin: "It's okay. I forgive you."

Houston: "I have an idea. Why don't we just take turns asking basic 'get to know you' questions? That way you won't feel put on-the-spot while you're...distracted."

*Devin smiles up at him*

Devin: "That sounds like fun. You go first."

*Houston nods, considers his first questions for a moment then responds:*

Houston: "What was your first horse's name?"

*Devin's eyes twinkle as a look of recollection passes across her face*

Devin: "He was a Quarter Pony that my Dad bought me when I was five. His name was Chevy. Because my Dad had a Chevy truck and I liked the word....and I was five."

*they both laugh*

Houston: "That's a really cool name for a horse, to be honest. You had good taste even at five."

*Devin shrugs and smiles*

Devin: "Okay, I guess it's my turn now," *taps her foot as she thinks* "What's your favorite movie?"

Houston: "Oh, that's an easy one. The Big Lebowski. What about yours?"

Devin: "I've never seen it. I mean, I've heard of it. But I've never actually watched it. And is that your next question?"

Houston: "Ah, you're missing out. It's a damn good movie. And yeah, I suppose that'll be my next one."

Devin: "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. It's a favorite from childhood that I still re-watch a couple of times a year."

*Houston looks puzzled*

Houston: "I don't think I've ever even heard of it."

Devin: "I'm not surprised. It's your standard horse-girl movie."

Houston: "Well, you know what this means, right?"

*Devin looks at him questioningly*

Houston: "One of our first orders of business should be a movie night. A double feature."

*a smile begins to spread across Devin's face*

Devin: "I would like that."

*Houston smiles in return*

Houston: "Then it's a date," *the two share a moment of silence as they look into each other's eyes before Houston speaks up* "Your turn."

Devin: "What do you do for work? Or are you a full time poet?"

*Houston chuckles*

Houston: "Poetry is more of a hobby; a creative release. I'm a mechanic by trade."

*Devin studies his face and considers her next words before replying*

Devin: "Is that how you got the, uh..." *motions toward his face*

Houston: "Scars?" *he smiles reassuringly* "No. Those are from my time as a soldier."

*Devin nods, still studying his face*

Houston (softly): "Do they bother you?"

Devin: "No, of course not. If I'm being honest," *she glances down, bites her lower lip and blushes before finding the courage to continue* "I find you really *bleep*ing attractive."

*Houston smiles and glances away*

Houston: "I, uh, thank you," *looks back Devin* "I'm sorry. I'm not used to being complimented. Especially by someone like you..."

Devin: "Someone like me?"

Houston: "Someone as incredibly beautiful and amazing as you. I mean, I feel like you're a thousand miles out of my league..."

*Devin exhales sharply*

Devin: "There go all those right words again."

Houston: "You mean the only words. The truth."

Devin: "I'm not 'out of your league' though," *she now takes a step closer to him. they're only inches apart* "I'm just a regular girl, looking at a man that makes her heart race...."

*Houston, without missing a beat, puts his arms around Devin's waist and pulls her against him. she reaches up and gently cradles the side of his face, her thumb tracing along his scar. the pair lock eyes*

Houston (whispers): "What are you doing to me?" *gently tightens his hold on Devin* "I know we just met, and this is going to sound crazy, but *bleep* I really like you."

*Devin smiles and bites her lower lip*

Devin: "It might be crazy, but I really like you too."

*Houston grins widely and the just look at it each other, in that way where they're both waiting to see who goes in for the kiss first*

*Devin leans in, closes her eyes and gently kisses Houston's cheek. he smiles and leans into it*

Houston: "Does this mean you're going to send everyone else home now?"

*Devin laughs and gently shakes her head*

*the camera then cuts to Devin in the diary room*

Devin, in diary room: "You asked me earlier tonight if I had any top contenders so far. I'm comfortable answering now. Houston. Our connection is....intense, but also effortless. And I've never felt chemistry like that. It's so...electric. I'm really, really excited about him. I have to see where this goes."

Houston, in diary room: "This has been the best night of my life. Honestly. Devin, she's...incredible. Better than incredible. I don't even know the words. And I've never felt a connection with anyone like this before. My heart feels like it's on fire right now!"

*as Devin descends the stairs, Handra quickly makes his way over and waits for her*

*Devin stops at the foot of the stairs once she notices him. she smiles in greeting.*

Devin: "Good evening, Handra."

Handra: "Good evening, Devin. I was wondering if you'd like to take a walk out to the pond?"

Devin: "Sure! Just let me grab my jacket first."

*Handra beams*

Handra: "Okay. I'll wait here."

*the next shot opens with Handra and Devin walking toward the pond, their arms are linked*

Handra: "Have you had a good first night with everyone?"

Devin: "I have, yeah. Everyone has been really nice so far. But, I'm excited to finally get some time with you, Mr. 'You Stole a Pizza My Heart.'"

*Handra smirks*

Handra: "I'm glad to finally get time with you too. It's been tough waiting. It seemed like every time I went to approach you someone else got there first."

Devin: "Yeah, it's seemed pretty aggressive all night, the, you know, the trying to get my attention. It feels a bit weird."

Handra (teasingly): "What? You're not used to dating five guys at the same time?"

*Devin's laugh rings out in the cool night air*

Devin: "Certainly not."

*the pair reach the pond*

Handra: "So, are you tired of talking about yourself yet?"

*Devin chokes out a single chuckle*

Devin: "Oh my Watcher, yes!. But, I mean, that's what this whole process is about, right?"

Handra: "True. But, if you want to talk about something else we can. I'm just happy to spend some time with you."

*a smile lights up Devin's face*

Devin: "That is so incredibly sweet and considerate of you, Handra. Thank you."

Handra: "You're welcome. So what will our topic of conversation be?"

Devin: "I want to talk about you."

*Handra smiles sheepishly*

Handra: "Alright. What do you want to know?"

*Devin considers her first question for a moment before answering*

Devin: "What do you do for work?

Handra: "I used to be a pastry chef, but now I"m a rancher."

*Devin nods*

Devin: "Interesting! That's quite the switch. What made you decide to get into ranching?"

Handra: "I grew up on a farm in Henford-on-Bagley, so I've always known this life. Growing up, I wanted to be a chef, though. So, when I became an adult I chased that dream all the way to San Myshuno. But, when my Mom got sick, I moved back home to help with the family farm. And after she died, my Uncle took it over and moved here to start a new life. That's the short version, anyway."

*Devin's eyes search his face and she looks amazing*

Devin: "Wow. That's crazy. There are some incredible parallels in our stories. I also grew up on a ranch. Training horses is all I've ever known. And when my Dad got sick, I found out he was signing over the family ranch to his brother instead of me. So, I used my inheritance to move here and buy this ranch."

*Handra lets out a long puff of air*

Handra: "That is crazy. And to think we've been in the same 50 mile radius all this time."

Devin: "Literally neighbors. Brought here under such similar circumstances."

Handra: "Well, regardless. I'm glad we're here, together now."

*Devin smiles up at him as their eyes meet*

Devin: "Me too."

*Handra returns the smile*

Handra: "What else would you like to know, love?"

Devin: "Uh," *falters for a moment before regaining her confidence* "Here's an important one. What are you looking for in a relationship? Out of this?"

Handra: "I'm going to be completely honest with you, because that's who I am. I'm here because I'm ready to settle down. I want to get married and start a family...with the right person. And if it turns out we're that for each other, well, yes, that's what I'm ultimately here for. As far as what I want out of a relationship? Honesty. Kindness. Mutual respect. Passion. Friendship. A lifelong adventure partner. All of that."

Devin: "That sounds...yeah. That sounds perfect. Thank you for being so open."

*Handra flashes a sideways smile at her*

Handra: "Anything you want to know....I'm your open book."

Devin: "Okay, then. What's something you're scared of?"

*Handra looks confused for a beat and then stifles his chuckle with his hand*

Handra: "Random, but I like it."

*Devin shrugs*

Devin: "Just trying to keep you on your toes."

Handra: "I appreciate it. Ah, let's see," *takes a moment to ponder* "Heights. Thunderstorms. And bears."

*Devin nods in approval*

Devin: "Fair answers. I mean, all of those things could kill you."

Handra: "Exactly! What about you?"

Devin (teasingly): "Oh, no. We weren't talking about me, remember?"

*Handra laughs*

Handra: "Fair enough."

*Devin crosses her arms and purses her lips*

Devin: "Really deep open water. Sharks. Getting buried alive. Oh, and spiders. I hate those eight legged *bleep*ers."

Handra: "Also all fair answers."

Devin: "Thank you."

*a chime can be heard coming from the house. the pair turn to look before returning their attention back to each other*

Devin: "I suppose that's our signal to go back."

*Handra sighs*

Handra: " You know what they say. All good things must come to an end."

Devin: "Do they though?"

Handra: "I suppose not. We could run away."

*Devin laughs*

Devin: "But we should probably go back in."

Handra: "As you wish."

Handra, in diary room: "I don't feel like I got enough time with Devin, but if I'm being honest, I don't think I will ever feel that way. She's just so much fun and so easy to be around that I found myself not wanting it to end. I like her. I really do. Watcher, I'm so lucky for this chance."

Devin, in diary room: "There is this deep level of maturity to Handra that is so appealing. What's that saying? He's wiser than his years. And we are on the same page on so many different levels it's crazy. There's definitely a connection there, but it feels like it may be a slow burn. I don't know. I may need to get some matches because we don't have time to let it smolder. 6 weeks ain't that long."

*the next shot opens with Devin closing out the Welcome Home Cocktail Party*

Devin: "I just wanted to thank you all for an unforgettable night. I've really enjoyed getting spend time with each of you. The connections we've started to form all feel unique and I hope you're looking forward to exploring them as much as I am over the coming weeks."

As a kid, Aarav spent most of his time with his much older half sister, trying to hang out with her and her friends, looking at her amazing shoes, and watching her apply makeup. From the start, Aarav was fascinated by the colors and the way it transformed people (he fondly remembers many early Halloweens). His sister, annoyed as she was by the little kid following her around, taught him how to apply makeup... with some rather mixed results early on. Unfortunately, Aarav had to give up his newfound hobby too soon, as the sports teams he was on forbade the use of makeup on all its players. Once his parents divorced, his sister moved to a far away place and with no one willing to teach him anymore, he gave up his love for makeup.

It wasn’t until university, when he let his friends put a full face on him, that he rediscovered his passion for it. Developing his skills quickly, he began taking courses at a local cosmetology school and building a solid portfolio for himself. He soon heard about Simmywood’s hottest makeup artist, Amanda Dupent, and decided he would train under the master. Unfortunately, the only ones that got near her were the ones that were in her makeup chair. Undeterred, Aarav decided he’d do anything to make it up the ranks to speak with his idol. He moved to Del Sol Valley to become an A-Lister, hoping he might finally make his dreams come true.

Quick word from Aarav himself: “Hey. My name is Aarav and I’m 24 years old. I moved to Del Sol Valley this year, and with no friends or family nearby, I really think it’s time to put myself out there. What better way to find love then on national TV right? *chuckles* I applied when I read about the bachelorette - she seems like someone I could make a life with and we seem to have a lot in common. Plus being in the same industry can be a huge plus, even if we have different jobs. Who knows, maybe Emmaly is the girl of my dreams.”

Creators, prepare your contestants for Private Download:

Downloads must include all necessary CC. Please dress your contestant for every clothing category and apply his Everyday outfit to Hot Weather and Cold Weather (only one outfit per category required; if you want to ~snap and give him a full wardrobe that’s your prerogative). Make sure he has all the traits, skills, and education you’ve assigned to him as well.

I reserve the right to change content for the challenge but I will not alter a sim’s fundamental appearance, (ex., body shape, complexion, facial details, etc.) nor remove/expand his traits, skills, etc.

This weekend, I will message you an optional brief questionnaire to be completed ahead of the start of the challenge. If it’s convenient for you, you may send the download link before I reach out, either via ask or message.

Please send me your download link + complete your questionnaire by 11:59p EST, Friday, October 2.

If you have issues with readying your sim for download, sending tray files, making the deadline, etc., please let me know.

For now, this blog will return to being a regular ol’ simblr. Flapperette “episodes” will start posting in a few weeks; before they do, I’ll post a full challenge schedule, an updated gameplay format post, and a “living” credits post so you know where to find the beautiful clothing, lots, and poses used throughout the challenge.

I figured if I received four submissions I was really going places; I’m thrilled and humbled at how many came through. I hope you’re all looking forward to the show, and I hope I can deliver something fun!
