JIMMY FALLON: welcome, everyone! we have a special treat for you tonight. please give it up for the current leaders of the world charts, the incredible band CHANGE!"

FALLON: alright, alright! now, there have been some rumours swirling around about your latest album and its connection to some personal matters. especially in regards to y/n. care to shed some light on that?
Y/N: well, jimmy, first of all, thank you for having us. i’m aware that there have been some rumours, but you know how it is. people love to speculate. our music is definitely personal, and yeah, it does reflect some of what's been going on in my life but i want to set the record straight. the songs on our album are inspired by a variety of our experiences, including relationships, but they're not always directly about any specific individuals. sometimes i’m inspired by other forms of media or my loved ones’ experiences. that’s the joy of making art, it can be whatever you want.
DRUMMER: yeah, and y/n is such a talented songwriter. she has this incredible ability to channel her emotions into our music and make you feel whatever she wants.
BASSIST: exactly. we're just here to make music that connects with people, and if our songs happen to resonate with someone going through a breakup? then we've done our job.

The song that Seishirou and Hokuto are pouring their very souls into to perform in the beginning of the chapter. Released in 1961, this a smoky, jazzy duet typical of its time, telling the story of two star-crossed lovers, one in Tokyo and one in Ginza. It was an immediate hit, even having a movie based upon it made, starring Ishihara-san in the lead role. It's a staple duet in karaoke even to this day.

The song that the random selector spits up for Subaru to sing, which Sei-chan subsequently picks up after sending him off to buy cigarettes/exorcise the OL. This was released in 1984, by Tachi Hiroshi, a singer and actor who became quite the sensation when he had a starring role in 西部警察 (Seibu Keisatsu; "Western Police") -- incidentally, directed by the abovementioned Ishihara-san, as you'd have it. "Nakanaide" was a hit, coming in 59th on the ORICON's 1984 top singles list. It's from his seventh album In the Mood.

The song that the OL ghost sings. A dark and heartfelt song about a dying love, it was a massive hit when it was released in 1987, shooting straight to the top of the ORICON charts (as Nakamori-san's 17th number one hit), and has been a karaoke regular since then, just as the OL says in the chapter. Originally written and performed by the very respected Kato Tokiko for her 最後のダンスパーティ (Saigo no Dance Party; "Last Dance Party") album of 1984; she personally requested that Nakamori-san perform the song. It's been covered countless times, including by the original singer/songwriter and the cover artist themselves.

Not actually sung, but the OL ghost suggests she'd like to sing it next. A dramatic and emotional slice of idol pop from the Eternal Idol herself, Matsuda Seiko (who also performs "Who's That Boy", found on Single White). Released in 1987 as a promo-only single from her fifteenth studio album, 1988's Citron. Despite never being released as an official single, it's one of Matsuda's more popular songs, especially karaoke-wise. It's rather interesting that the OL picks a Matsuda song directly after a Nakamori Akina track -- the pair were notorious rivals in the 80s, supposedly even in love.

The song Hokuto is singing when Subaru attempts to sneak back into the karaoke box. Released in 1991, it peaked at #4 on the ORICON charts, and was remixed on Moritaka's second remix album as ザ・勉強の歌 (Za・Benkyo no Uta; "The・Study Song"). It was used as the opening theme to the anime TV series "Mischievous Twins: The Tales of St. Clare's". It's a totally gimmicky song (complete with voguing in the very weird video clip), though cheerful and catchy, so its popularity on the karaoke circuit at the time shouldn't surprise anyone. (You just know that Hokuto unironically adored this song, and drove Subaru batty by singing it at every opportunity.)

The song that Hokuto announces Subaru should sing with Seishirou as punishment for being late. Another staple in the duets section of karaoke, still, this 1979 release was actually a cover. The song was released by two Toshiba EMI artists, Matsudaira Kemeko and the Purple Shadows, respectively, in 1969. In October 1975, Los Indios released a single-voice version, and in 1979 it was rearranged as a male and female duet, with some lyrics changed slightly. The song was an instant hit, and by 1980, it had sold a million copies.

Do you have tips on writing lullabies? It's for a mom character from my story who often sings lullabies to her kid. I'm not exactly the best at writing song lyrics, so I would appreciate some tips on writing lullabies.
Tips on Writing Lullabies
First, I want to say that most traditional lullabies like Rock-a-Bye Baby, Hush-a-Bye, and Hush Little Baby are in the public domain, meaning that it's okay for you to use them in your story. If your story is set in our world, you may just want to have your character sing a traditional lullaby rather than writing your own. Just double-check that the song isn't anachronistic and that it is, in fact, in the public domain.
If you're writing a story set in an imaginary world, or there's some other reason why you feel an original lullaby would make more sense, it helps to understand a little bit of what lullabies actually are. The earliest known lullaby was recorded on a clay tablet in cuneiform script 4,000 years ago in Babylon, what is now modern-day Iraq. Like many lullabies over the centuries, it is a little dark and comes with a message for the baby: essentially, stop crying or you'll wake up the house demon. Many researchers believe that part of the function of a lullaby is to help the parent vocalize their fears in relation to the baby, whether that fear is related to the baby's mortality, the potential danger of crying (attracting predators or angering others), or even more personal concerns bothering the mother.
So, a good place to start is with your story's setting... where does the parent character live? Where did they grow up? What concerns do they have or might their parents have had (or the parents of that town/village/culture) that would make it into a lullaby?
For example, let's say you're writing a fantasy and the parent character comes from a village at the foot of a mountain range where mining is the primary industry, and heavy rains fall in the winter months which sometimes create dangerous conditions in the mine. From here you can imagine a parent sitting at home, rocking their baby to sleep while they wait for the other parent to return from the mines... but because it's raining, there's now the fear that the other parent won't return because the rains are so dangerous. How might that translate into a song? How might the parent vocalize these fears in some way to the child?
Some other things to keep in mind are the typical sound and structure of a lullaby:
-- 6/8 time signature with no more than 5 notes is common
-- slow, melodic tones reminiscent of a heartbeat
-- rhythm that works with rocking or gentle swinging
-- few words, repeated over and over
You might even look at existing lullabies and use them as a template. Let's say I want to create my miner-related lullaby using Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as a guide:
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.
So, maybe it could be something like...
Rain, rain, the winter rain
Mother's in the mines.
May she find her way to you
her darling Valentine.
Rain, rain, the winter rain
Father's turn will come.
May the sun be shining soon,
for now the day is done.
It's simple and it tells a little story... these parents take turns working in the mines, and it's dangerous work. The parent left behind is always hoping the other parent will make it home to them, and that the rain will stop so it's not so dangerous.
Another example worth noting is the lullaby from The Hunger Games, Deep in the Meadow. (You can read the lyrics here.) This lullaby is lighthearted on the surface... it paints a beautiful picture of a meadow where the child will be safe and loved. But the darker undertone is that the meadow is the safe place while the rest of the world the child lives in is not safe, and that obviously hearkens to the specific world that Katniss and her family grew up in.
And while we're on the subject, although it's not a lullaby, the ballad The Hanging Tree, also from The Hunger Games, has a similar origin in terms of matching theme to setting. (You can read about it here, CW for dark themes.)

I finally did it. Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, translated into Akkadian (Ancient Babylonian).
“Hallelujah” itself is not a single word in the original Hebrew, it’s a verbal phrase- Praise Yah, the imperative of the verbal root h-l-l, rendered in the second person masculine plural. The same verbal root exists in Akkadian with the initial H dropped, as alālum, to sing, but I couldn’t find a verbal form that scanned well with the tune. Instead I went for a form of the verb karābum, meaning to bless/pray/praise. In the precative tense and GT stem- “Luktarabka”, roughly translatable as “May I praise thee continually/eternally”, which I felt captured the meaning of both the original phrase and its place in the song.
I’d toyed with the idea of this translation for a long time, but put it off, partially because of the third and fourth lines. Then I discovered this paper, a study and analysis of a surviving cuneiform tablet of instructions for tuning a stringed instrument. The instructions are not fully understood even by experts, and I don’t know enough music theory to reconstruct “the minor fall, the major lift” exactly. But I did use the names that appear to be given to the individual chords or strings of the instrument in the third and fourth lines- nish tuhri, ishartu, embubu, nidi wabli, qablitu, kitmu, pitu. It appears the components of the instrument may have been named after animal body-parts, conceptualising the entire harp as a living animal working in tandem with itself.

The thing about the Captain singing “I Am The Very Model” is that it’s actually a satire about the British Army during the 19th century. The Major-General lists all the things he knows from Babylonic cuneiform to many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse. But none of those very interesting little bits of information have anything to do with leading an army. Yes, he knows the kings of England and can quote various battles (categorically, no less) but that would make him a great historian, it wouldn’t help him on the battlefield.
When he does know things about the military is all rather basic. He can tell the difference between a Mauser rifle and a javelin (because y’know, a sharp stick and a fucking gun are very hard to tell apart) he knows the meaning of the word “Commissariat” (food and equipment department) and he knows more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery (and I know more of walking than a baby, big whoop)
Anyways, I find this interesting considering when it comes to being part of the army, the Captain isn’t exactly the type for it. Ben has said on multiple occasions that the Captain is very much unfit for the army. Describing him as “a sensitive man” and that “he’d be the first to run if the Germans came out of the woods”. And we very clearly see he is more cutout for theatre than the military. Now, is the Captain as incompetent as the Major-General? Well no of course not, but he’s just as unfit to be in a position of military leadership as the Major-General is. (Perhaps to a lesser degree, but you get what I’m saying) I just think him singing that song is very telling about his character.
I feel like anyone who knows the song or the opera has figured this out already and I’m not exactly saying anything new, but I haven’t seen anyone else make this connection before so I thought I’d say it.

Broken Bells- finally they heard the bells and the army of Calvary is coming because the bells is their call to war
Caravel means blurring the lines of fantasy and reality which could be them talking about if this entire battle is real of fake
Built by nations talking about how it was taken down by warrior and Barbains are warriors hence why it’s before The Barbains
The barbains they took down Babylon and Babylon was a nation that was built
Light my love will later refer to heat above with the lyric ‘can you feel my love rising with the heat above’ meaning that they are close to the end or death
Trip the light fantastic- ‘and I will sing on my universal song.’ They heard the broke. Bells and are still fighting
Tears of rain just like LML will be brought up in heat above with they lyrics ‘the faces are still burning’ making a connection to the heat above lyrics‘fires still burning all around’
Age of machine- the only reason which is kind of dumb is that in the music video age of machine ends with them leaving the bunker and walking into a white light. And the heat above music video opens with them in a white light
Heat Above- it making multiple references to Tears of rain, Age of machine, Broken bells with ‘can you hear that dreadful sound’ and light my love.
This is all of have I know this doesn’t make sense at all but I thought it would be nice to share my stupid theory. I want to hear what hear what you guys think about this and if you think I could be onto something. Please I’m begging someone to comment of message me if you think the orders wrong of if you have ideas. I know this is really fucking stupid but I thought I’d share.

one day there’s going to be a song that’s as much of a banger as you don’t go to parties and has all four members singing like bloodhound and is as emotional as jet black heart and as much of a vocal flex as bad omens or easier and has the desperation of all of calm and is as fun as if walls could talk and is as much of a bop as youngblood and is as iconic as she looks so perfect and as encouraging as she’s kinda hot and has the imagery of babylon and the hope we just started to see in 5sos5. and they’re gonna make it in their own time in their own way when they want to and that’s going to be the best thing about it

Jane Mallory Birkin (14 December 1946 – 16 July 2023)
Jane Mallory Birkin was born in London in December 1946, daughter of British actress Judy Campbell and Royal Navy commander David Birkin.
She had lived in her adopted France since the late 1960s and apart from her singing and roles in dozens of films, she was a popular figure for her warm nature, stalwart fight for women's and LGBT rights.
She first took to the stage aged 17 and went on to appear in the 1965 musical "Passion Flower Hotel" by conductor and composer John Barry, whom she married shortly after. The marriage ended in the late 1960s.
Before venturing across the Channel aged 22, she achieved notoriety in the controversial 1966 Michelangelo Antonioni film "Blow-Up", appearing naked in a threesome sex scene.
But it was in France that she truly shot to fame, as much for her love affair with tormented national star Gainsbourg, as for her tomboyish style and endearing British accent when speaking French.
It was on the set of the film "Slogan" in 1969 that Birkin first met Gainsbourg, who was recovering from a break-up with Brigitte Bardot, and the two quickly began a love affair that captivated the nation.
That same year they released "Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus" ("I Love You... Me Neither"), a song about physical love originally written for Bardot in which Gainsbourg's explicit lyrics are punctuated with breathy moans and cries from Birkin.
The song was banned by the BBC and condemned by the Vatican.
Following the breakup of that relationship in 1981, she continued her career as a singer and actress, appearing on stage and releasing albums such as "Baby Alone in Babylone" in 1983, and "Amour des Feintes" in 1990, both with words and music by Gainsbourg.
Gainsbourg's drinking eventually got the better of the relationship, and Birkin left him in 1981 to live with film director Jacques Doillon. However she remained close to the troubled singer until his death in March 1991.
It was around this time that she inspired the famous Birkin bag by French luxury house Hermes, after chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas saw her struggling with her straw bag on a flight to London, spilling the contents over the floor.
She wrote her own album "Arabesque" in 2002, and in 2009 released a collection of live recordings, "Jane at the Palace".
She is survived by two daughters the singer and actress Charlotte, born in 1971, and Lou Doillon, also an actress, born in 1982. She also had a daughter, Kate, who was born in 1967 and died in 2013.
