From Day 1 to "I love you"

Credit for this idea goes to @reasonandfaithinharmony (thanks, lovely 😘) and this gifset (we have lots of Feelings about it). When you watch these two scenes, they seem to intentionally parallel each other, and I love the difference in David's body language specifically. To watch him go from apprehensive, and not really knowing what he'll find then he walks into the store after their first date, to knowing that Patrick loves him is really beautiful to watch. Thank you @reasonandfaithinharmony for putting them together I'm gonna go cry about it now 🙃🥰

Re: David reacting to Patrick singing in Open Mic

I know that David was looking around... like it's hard to be in these moments, they're very real and raw and vulnerable, and they're beautiful. It's hard to be present 'cause we're so not used to it. And I love when he was looking away, his mom touches his shoulder like, "No, no, sit with this. This is what life is about. These moments."

Re: David and Patrick talking about getting back together in The Olive Branch

"I'm not used to someone being nice and kind to me." That's a telling line. There are a lot of people who get scared in relationships 'cause they're so used to things being bad that when things are good, they're afraid. Like if I actually invest in this, if I actually believe in this, then I can get hurt all the more, so I'm choosing to preemptively sabotage. There is no reward without risk. There is no love without vulnerability, and in order to have a committed relationship, you risk getting hurt, you risk getting burned.

Re: David and Patrick getting married in Happy Ending

One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard is that happiness in marriage is not so much a matter of romance, but a concern for the comfort and wellbeing of your companion. So many little things where they are looking for one another's comfort, for one another's happiness. They're willing to make sacrifices. Like, "I wanted to go to New York, but I don't want to be anywhere that you don't want to be." This was beautiful. I hope my comments and insights added to the experience, but so much of this just speaks for itself. I love this.

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.

it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.

and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.

on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.

edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

noun

a person who is used by another to carry out an unpleasant or dangerous task.

Made this because I haven’t seen anyone swap out the Bishops too, and I think there’s a lot of fluff and drama to be found there :>

Narinder was abandoned as a kitten because he was the only black kit in the litter. The Bishops have damned all black cats and anyone who harbored them would be killed too.

Thankfully, his bio parents made a half-assed attempt to hide him, so he was found safely by Forneus. She adopts him, knowing no one else would. He never finds out he’s adopted.

Her husband is also a black cat and dies protecting them while she’s pregnant with Aym and Baal.

Narinder grows up happy and loved for most of his childhood, but soon discovers the extent of others’ hatred for them when a stranger wounds Baal while they were all out foraging.

Since this is a swap!AU, I think you all know how this little family ends.

I got more but my wrist is screaming at me lmao. Probably gonna finish up Nari’s helpers next (aka the original Bishops.)
