Mistletoe
New Story! FFN and AO3
For the amazing @midnightelite ! Part of the Potterverse Gift Exchange.
The McKinnon's New Year's Eve party is the stuff of legends, but Marlene is far more focused on one Sirius Black.
Mistletoe
The McKinnon's New Year's Eve party was the sort of event that witches and wizards looked forward to all year. Budding DJs sent auditions to Angus, knowing the gig could fill their schedules for the rest of the year. Catering businesses sent Elspeth invitations to try new menu items and free birthday dinners. Friends and family blocked out their schedules after Christmas to come help the McKinnon's clean and set up for the party. And anyone who received an invite the beginning of December moved mountains to ensure that they could attend.
Marlene enjoyed the controlled chaos her parents orchestrated for the party every year, but she loved the few day of preparation more. The quiet lead up before the storm of people and music and food. She especially loved that only their closest friends and family came to help clean and set up for the party.
This year that included the Potters, as always, but the Potters included one more than the normal three.
Marlene had invited Sirius Black to this party every year they'd been at Hogwarts, but this year, their sixth year, was the first that he could come. The Potters had invited him to help prepare for the party, and to Marlene's delight, he'd agreed.
Marlene shifted the boxes in her arms as she walked from the shed in the back garden to the house. The sun peaked out from behind the clouds as snow crunched beneath her feet. The boxes blocked her view of the house, but not the sound of laughter coming from within. She reached for the door, trying to keep the boxes balanced in her arms. Fate had other plans. Marlene swore as the boxes tipped off balance, sliding forward. She lunged forward, hoping to trap the boxes between her chest and the door, but she forgot she'd been in the process of opening the door.
It played out in slow motion. The door swung open. The boxes fell forward. And Marlene braced for her own impact with the floor.
That didn't come.
Instead of hardwood floor, she impacted with strong arms that steadied both her and the boxes in her arms.
"Don't move."
"Sirius?"
"Really, Marls, there are better ways to get my attention than throwing yourself at me under the mistletoe."
Marlene rolled her eyes, stopping for a moment to look at one of the several sprigs of mistletoe her parents kept around the house. "Trust me, I don't need mistletoe as an excuse to kiss a bloke."
His body shook with his laughter and Marlene privately admitted that she wouldn't mind one bit if he took the mistletoe above them as an invitation to kiss her.
"Noted. Hold on."
With a strength Marlene didn't realize he had, Sirius lifted her and the boxes from their precariously balanced position, set Marlene down in the entryway, took the boxes from her arms, and carefully placed them on the floor next to her.
"Thank you." Marlene tried to shake the desire to be back in his arms.
"Any time, Marls." He winked at her. "All good?"
"Yeah." She swallowed as his eyes traced her face. He took a step closer to her and Marlene couldn't stop from doing the same.
"Sirius, my boy? Did you find that broom?" Monty's voice called from the dining room.
"Here." Marlene spun to the hall closet and pulled out the broom. She turned to hand it to him and gasped when Sirius was right in front of her.
"Thanks." His fingers wrapped around hers instead of the broom, and he stepped closer.
"Of course." She barely heard her own voice.
"Sirius?" Monty called again.
Annoyance flickered across Sirius' face for the briefest moment, and Marlene agreed. She loved Monty like an uncle, but right now she wanted to see what would happen if Monty forgot he needed this broom.
Sirius slipped his hands from hers to the broom and stepped back. He gave her a smirk as her turned towards the dining room.
"Mistletoe isn't all bad." He winked at her.
"I never said it was bad." Marlene grinned. "Only that I don't need it as an excuse."
"Good to know." His gaze went heated for a long moment before he disappeared down the corridor, leaving Marlene short of breath for several moments after he was gone.
The rest of the days leading up to the party found Marlene watching Sirius, and most of the time without realizing it. To be fair, most of the time she looked up he was watching her as well. When she met his gaze he'd smirk and wink at her before going back to whatever task he was engaged in. But Marlene rather preferred when she would look at him and he wasn't already watching her. There was a presence to Sirius when he wasn't aware he was being observed. It lacked the cockiness he put forward, and instead he exuded a quiet confidence in every task he took on. There was so much more to Sirius, and every time she watched without his knowing, she learned a bit more about the man he hid behind his mask.
New Year's Eve finally came and Marlene was a bit sad it had. She'd enjoyed Sirius being around her home, and after tonight he wouldn't be around at all until the next year. Sure she'd see him at school, but it wouldn't be the same.
Marlene watched Sirius laugh at something Remus had said, his head back, his smile lighting up his face, it was exactly what she'd come to know as him in these last few days with him. And it embodied how over those days, she'd shifted from seeing him as one of her most fit friends, to seeing him as something more.
"Marlene?" Her mother tapped her shoulder. "Will you please grab another platter and bring it out here?"
"Sure." Marlene smiled as her mum hugged her.
"Thank you."
She took one last look at Sirius and turned down the corridor to the kitchen.
"Running away from the party?" A voice she had come to recognize asked as she pulled the platter from the cupboard.
Sirius leant against the door frame as he smiled at her.
"Running errands for the party would be the more accurate descriptor." She smiled at him, setting the platter on the counter.
Sirius moved slowly to her side, his eyes not leaving hers. "That's a relief. I was worried the famed Marlene McKinnon hated her own party."
Marlene laughed and reached behind her to hold the counter, her heart beating so fast she worried she might pass out.
Sirius didn't stop his advance until his hands were covering hers. His body was so close, filling her senses with his scent, the sound of his breathing, the intensity of his stare.
"You said you didn't need mistletoe." He brought his forehead to rest against hers. "Is there something you do need?"
"To kiss a bloke?" She chuckled. "I prefer to want to."
His nose brushed hers and her eyes closed of their own accord. "Do you want to?"
"Yes."
She expected him to rush her. To kiss her like every other sloppy teenager. But she quickly realized why Sirius' reputation preceded him.
Sirius' lips were soft, as they slanted over hers, caressing, savoring, stealing not only her ability but her desire to breathe air. Marlene wanted to breath this kiss for the rest of her life. His hands shifted from covering hers on the counter, sliding the length of her arms, one tangling in her curls and the other wrapping around her waist and pulling her into him. Marlene's grip shifted from the counter behind her to Sirius' hair, her nails dragging against his scalp. Sirius growled and shifted the kiss, pressing her against the counter as he increased their pace, his hands holding her tighter to him.
That was where her brain decided to catch up with her.
"Sirius." She broke their kiss, but her voice came out in a breathy moan that Sirius took as an invitation to move his lips to her neck.
Merlin and Morgana why did he choose to do this when her mother was waiting for her?
"Sirius." She tried again. "Let me get this platter to my mum and then we can find a better place to snog."
He grinned against her neck before nipping at the skin beneath her ear. "Afraid to get caught?"
"No, but if we get caught there's no way we'll be able to sneak away."
"Touché." He brought his lips back to hers in a slow slide. "Lead on."
Marlene didn't remember untangling herself from Sirius, or where her mother was when they dropped the platter with her. But she definitely remembered pulling Sirius into the green house at the back of the garden.
"I thought you didn't care for mistletoe." Sirius teased as he pulled her down to the bench in the back.
Marlene glanced up at the sprig hanging above the bench and laughed. She didn't know her parents put it up out here too.
"I never said I didn't like it, only that I don't need it's excuse."
Sirius cupped her face and smiled the brightest smile she'd ever seen on him. "I happen to be rather fond of the tradition."
Marlene snaked her hands around his neck and pulled him close. "Then per tradition, I think you have to kiss me."
He did just that.

Day 02 - Quizzical
AO3 || FF
There was a knock on the door. It didn’t sound urgent but it was persistent. So persistent that it had woken up Sirius from his nap on the sofa.
He had had a long night chasing some false tip on a Death Eater and he had sat to have a drink, which ended up with him falling asleep on the spot and the drink served but untouched.
Sirius barely registered the knocking at first, until finally he went to the door, guarded about who might be on the other side.
Grabbing his wand he stood next to the door asking: “Who is it?”
“Marlene, I’ve known you since you were 11, and we went to have matching tattoos last week, not even James knows. Now open the door.”
Sirius sighed in relief and opened the door, getting to look at a recently dyed brunette Marlene, lately she had a different coloured hair almost every month. He supposed it was her way of going through the recent events.
Her blue eyes on him, looking at the bags under his eyes, he was almost sure of it.
“You look like rubbish,” she said, pulling him close and pecklink his lips, “I’m glad that you’re back.” she added softly, like saying it outloud would make her break.
Sirius his arms around her, “Rubbish tip, nothing happened, just a lot of non sleeping, you just woke me up.” he pointed, pressing his forehead on hers and closing his eyes for a moment, letting his body relax, he had been tense before opening the door. These days no one could be sure of who might come to visit.
“No wonder your breath stinks, like something died in there” she joked, pulling away just a bit. “C’mon, help me with something.”
Sirius looked at her, frowning at the comment, it didn’t sound urgent. “Can it wait? I’m beat.” he admitted.
“No, someone might take it before you wake, it’s just downstairs.”
He rose an eyebrow, like asking ‘what the fuck do you want help with?’ which she replied by taking his hand and pulling him downwards to the street. There was a desk, next to a pile of literal rubbish, which made Sirius consider Marlene’s sanity for a second.
He looked at her, “Why are you sorting through rubbish?”
“It’s not, the desk is in good condition, and I would have levitated it to your flat, but you decided to live in muggle London.” she replied carefully, taking the pieces of glass from it. “You always say you need furniture. Here you have some for free. Now help me get it up.”
Sirius frowned, “You know I have money right? To buy a new one?”
Marlene rolled her eyes, “Yes, but you never have time, this is right here, and with the right spell we can make it new. Now stop being an arse and help me.” Sirius didn’t move, he just stood there staring at her, like she had grown a second head. “Not everything needs to be brand new. Some things can be a little broken and still be beautiful, if you give them a chance.” she offered, “Also you can’t not have just a sofa and a bed, that’s not a home.”
It doesn’t feel like one. He admitted to himself, before sighing, “If you give rats into my place you are getting rid of them.” He grabbed an end of the desk.
“I thought you like rats, you always hang out with Pete.” she teased, grabbing the other end.
Sirius rolled his eyes, a smile on his lips, “That’s different, Wormtail is family, there would be unwelcome guests.”
And with that they made their way back to the flat.

Blackinnon Fest 2024 | Day 8
Word Count: 329 Prompt: Crowd
Sirius sat on the brick wall, taking a long drag from his cigarette. The smoke swirled around him in the cool evening breeze as he exhaled deeply. He turned to look at Marlene, who sat beside him and held her trembling hand.
"I suppose we're getting married then," he said, almost casually, as he passed the cigarette to her.
Marlene nodded slowly, her eyes staring blankly into the distance. She took the cigarette from Sirius and brought it to her lips, inhaling deeply before exhaling a thick cloud of smoke.
"I suppose we are," she sighed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Getting married had seemed like a great idea until tonight. Sirius and Marlene had organized a cosy wedding eve party with friends and their fellow Order members, determined to have a good time before the big day tomorrow. However, before dessert was served, they took one look at each other and sneaked out under the pretence of wanting to smoke outside for a minute.
To hide from the crowd, they wandered aimlessly through the neighbourhood until they came across a peaceful spot by the river. Sirius was still in his dress robes. He had rolled up his sleeves and had given his jacket to Marlene, who had taken off her shoes and shivered in her dress.
They were the last couple in the Order to get married. In fact, they were always most adamant about not getting married until they had to write their will. Everyone in the Order had handed in a piece of parchment with their last wishes, except for Sirius, and everyone had gotten married. One sentence on a napkin and a yes. Piece of cake.
Marlene had begged him to write his will. They had argued for days, crying and shouting to the point they had almost broken up. Not because the contents had mattered in any way, but because of one little sentence he had said in passing that had felt like a slap in the face.
"If I die, that's the end."
Perhaps it was the deaths of Fabian, Gideon, Sirius' father, and brother that made them realize they had reached the end of their family line. But their deaths definitely sparked the idea of getting married.
Now, Sirius was the future Mr McKinnon, about to marry into the most powerful family in Scotland. He was welcomed with open arms; he loved Marlene, and most importantly, he lost his family name. It was everything he had wished for.
Marlene leaned against him and rested her head on his shoulder. Her feet dangled off the brick wall as she watched the moon reflect in the water. Tears filled her eyes and dripped on Sirius' shirt. He put out his cigarette, flicked it away, and fought his own tears that ran down his cheeks. They sat in silence for a while until Marlene said, "My feet are cold. I want to go back."
Therefore, they wiped away their tears, returned to the party and put on a brave face because everything was had to be perfect.

Can you write something where Marlene finds out that she's pregnant and it was definitly an accident?
The late summer air hung heavy with the scent of honeysuckle as Marlene McKinnon stumbled out of the apothecary, a crumpled piece of parchment clutched in her hand. Her heart hammered a frantic rhythm against her ribs, a stark counterpoint to the chirping crickets that filled the twilight. Planned. It wasn't planned. The word echoed in her mind, a relentless drumbeat.
Marlene wasn't naive. She knew the risks of a romp in the Shrieking Shack with Sirius Black, a notorious flirt with a penchant for trouble. But it had been a night of rebellion, fueled by stolen Firewhiskey and the thrill of defying curfew. A night that now held the potential to alter the course of her life entirely.
Sirius. The thought of him sent a jolt through her. He was trouble with a capital T, a walking, talking prank gone wrong. Yet, there was a magnetic charm to him, a roguish glint in his eyes that both terrified and exhilarated her. They'd danced around each other for years, a playful push and pull that never quite escalated into anything serious. Until that night.
Panic gnawed at the edges of her bravado. Marlene wasn't ready to be a mother. She had dreams, aspirations that stretched far beyond the picket fence. She envisioned herself as an Auror, her robes billowing as she dueled dark wizards, not changing nappies in a nursery filled with teddy bears.
The walk back to her dormitory felt like an eternity. The weight of the parchment in her hand seemed to grow with every step. How could she face him? How could she tell Sirius, the man who reveled in chaos, that he was about to become a father, a responsibility that would clip his carefree wings?
Reaching the Gryffindor common room, Marlene found Sirius sprawled on a plush armchair, a mischievous grin plastered on his face. His grey eyes, usually sparkling with amusement, held a flicker of concern as they landed on her.
"Merlin's beard, Marlene, you look like you've seen a banshee," he drawled, his usual flippancy tinged with worry.
She sank onto the chair opposite him, the parchment a burning coal in her hand. Taking a deep breath, she blurted it out. The words tumbled forth, a jumbled mess of emotions and anxieties. Sirius listened, his amusement slowly giving way to a stunned silence.
When she finished, a heavy quiet descended upon them. The fire crackled in the hearth, the only sound breaking the tense stillness. Marlene stole a glance at Sirius, bracing herself for his reaction.
"Are you... sure?" he finally asked, his voice hoarse.
"Positive," she replied, her voice barely a whisper.
He ran a hand through his already messy hair, a frustrated groan escaping his lips. Marlene flinched, fearing the worst. But then, Sirius surprised her.
"Alright," he said, his voice firm despite the tremor that ran through it. "We'll figure this out. Together."
Relief washed over Marlene, a wave that threatened to drown her. Together. The word held a promise, a glimmer of hope in the midst of their predicament.
The following days were a whirlwind. Marlene confided in Lily, her best friend, who enveloped her in a fierce hug and promises of unwavering support. Sirius, ever the prankster, turned uncharacteristically serious. He spent hours researching options, his face creased in concentration as he pored over dusty tomes in the library.
One evening, he found her by the lake, the setting sun painting the water in hues of orange and gold. He sat beside her, a nervous energy radiating from him.
"I talked to Professor McGonagall," he confessed, his voice low. "She... she has some contacts. We have options, Marlene. We don't have to do this alone."
Marlene' eyes welled up. Sirius, the irresponsible one, the free spirit, was taking charge. He was facing this unplanned future with her, a silent vow of commitment hanging unspoken in the air.
This wouldn't be easy. There would be judgments, whispers, and societal disapproval most of all the turmoil awaiting them outside the walls of the castle. But as Marlene looked at Sirius, his face etched with determination, a strange sense of calm settled over her. They were in this together. This might not be part of the plan but here they are now facing it together.
And as Marlene leaned into Sirius's side, the setting sun casting a warm glow on them, a tiny spark of hope flickered within her. Maybe, just maybe, this unexpected turn of events wouldn't be the disaster she initially feared. Maybe, it was the start of something new, something beautiful, something they could build together, one unplanned step at a time.

Sirius Black x Marlene McKinnon
angst
Warnings: major character death, mentions of torture
It had been around three weeks since that day.
As Sirius had promised, they had found a way which worked for the two of them, and both made them happy.
They'd told no one yet. It was only them and Remus who knew of Sirius and Marlene's unexpected gift. But they planned to tell all their friends at a party this weekend, to celebrate the one month mark.
As for now, it was calm.
Marlene still had four days before a frenzied Mary, Lily and Dorcas would mother and smother her, as if she were their child.
And before the cracking of inappropriate jokes at her and Sirius' expense would begin from the boy's side.
Marlene could already hear them and grimaced at the thought, before she plunged herself back into the present.
A warm July breeze swept through the windows of her room, causing the sheer curtains to expand and the colourful and glossy pages of the magazine on her knees to rustle.
It was a typical summer's day. The sky was a flawless shade of blue, with only a few puffs of white dotting the wide expanse. The wind was soft and lovely, strong enough to provide a calming cool to her usually-stuffy bedroom, but not enough to challenge the sticking charm of all her band and actor posters.
It would've been perfect, had it not been for her sibling's antics. Below her, even over the soprano voices of Agnetha and Anni-Frid, echoes of Angus and Elspeth's quarrel could be heard. She'd tried to tune them out by playing her ABBA CD on full volume, but unfortunately, that plan had failed.
She flicked a page, bringing her attention back to the dress in front of her.
Breezy, large, cotton fabric and - navy in colour.
Seriously, why did it seem that all maternity clothes were dark colours?!
Shouldn't they be bright, reminding the mother-to-be of the joys of children, life, birth and motherhood? The dark shades seemed to insinuate a very different story, something almost sinister.
Marlene sighed, turning the page and reminding herself that she should be grateful. Grateful that she had access to maternity clothes, and that she was skilled enough to sneak a few of these magazines upstairs to glance upon in quiet and privacy.
Another dress, this time a deep emerald stared at her.
Damn it, she thought as she flung the magazine to the floor, and it landed with a loud smack.
She brought another magazine to her lap, and began scanning, this time finding prettier, brighter dresses that were relatively cheap. She began to smile, and it spread wider when she noted the song playing in the background.
You thrill me, you delight me,
You please me, you excite me-
She thought of her Sirius and their thrilling and love-filled relationship. She thought of her baby, and all the hope and excitement that brought her.
The song continued flowing through her and the voices of Elspeth and Angus seemed to stop too, providing her with the song-oriented joy she knew she needed, as she continued to browse for dresses.
I've been waiting for-
"I have you know," A voice chuckled from behind her.
She felt her heart freeze as she realised who the voice belonged to.
Bellatrix Lestrange.
A cousin of Sirius, the wife of the infamous Rodolphus, and a loyal deatheater who took particular pleasure in the Cruciatus curse.
She had to get out of here.
Reaching for her wand, she seized it and spun around, opening her mouth to cast a spell, when she felt it, more than heard it.
"Expelliarmus!" Her wand was wrenched from her gasp, and she watched in horror as it flew spinning into Bellatrix's outstretched palm.
She was dead.
"No way out now, dearie, is there?" Bellatrix questioned, before a flick of her wand slammed and locked the window.
Marlene retreated, taking slow steps back, as Bellatrix approached, ever the predator hunting for prey.
"You thought you could get away with it?" She taunted, "Oh, wait, you don't know that I know."
The witch cackled, an inhumane, manic sound that sent shivers down her spine.
"Well, a little birdie told me that you were bearing one of the children of the Black bloodline. So, you might understand why I couldn't allow that to happen. And if you don't, well that's what I'm hear for, isn't it?"
A long, terrifying pause.
"To make you understand," she snarled.
And as Bellatrix screamed the words of torture curses, Marlene began to feel the first trickles of pain.
********
Eventually, pounding came fromthe door, as well as Sirius' screamed pleas to Bellatrix.
"Well," Bellatrix muttered, through heavy pants as she withdrew her blood-smeared knife from Marlene, "I think I shall leave you for your darling now. Farewell, it's been a pleasure."
And with a wave of her wand and a loud crack, the door was open and Bellatrix was gone.
Sirius exploded in, stopping as he took in the sight before him.
Blood, so much blood-
Marlene-
He knelt before her, his eyes wide and releasing tears as he fought the urge to shake uncontrollably, to turn numb and lie sobbing for hours-
"It's okay," she murmured, through gasping breaths, reaching a shaking hand to his tear-stained cheek, "you couldn't have done anything to stop her."
"You weren't supposed to get hurt- I-It was meant to be me! I didn't care about dying- I was the blood traitor, but you-" He sobbed bitterly, choking on his words.
"It's-it's all right," she soothed, although he could see the fear and pain in her eyes as they began to water, "You'll be fine, Sirius. Even if I'm not, you have to go on. Promise me you'll keep fighting, and most of all, that you'll win."
"It shouldn't have been like this- I came to-to-"
And he held up the golden ring he had selected for her, set with a pear ruby, and surrounded by star-like diamonds.
She took it in, before meeting his eyes, her's lined with heavy tears, her face crumpling with emotion.
"I love you," she whispered, "and to you, I will always be Marlene Black."
His heart might've filled with warmth if he had not been so splintered.
She took a shuddering gasp, and began coughing, blood droplets trickling from her lips.
"Hold my hand," she begged, "I-I can feel it, please hold it."
Sirius grabbed it, and held it tight.
He held it through all her shaking, whimpers of pain, and whispered apologies.
He held it even when it stopped shaking, stopped pulsing, and became cold in his own hand.
He held it numbly, and that was how they found him. A broken boy with shattered eyes, leaning over the cold corpse of his lover.
And that, he supposed, was when he truly broke.
******
Even years later, Harry always wondered how Sirius was serene, almost happy as his body fell through the veil in the Department of Mysteries.
The fact that even as he was dying, he was able to sport a brave face, to not reveal any panic or emotion as he came to realise his inevitable fate.
If only Harry knew just how simple it was for Sirius to die.
They say death does not come as an impenetrable black cloud, suffocating you and pulling you into the afterlife, but rather, it is a beckoning, a call from someone deceased and beloved that your time is spent.
It was much the same for Sirius. As he fell through the veil, he found that he wasn't leaving the world of the living, the fight that he had sacrificed so much for and the godson that he loved so fiercely; no, he was falling into the arms of his Marlene, her silky strands of blonde hair falling into her eyes as she shifted into a position to catch him, laughing.
He had not been dying.
He had been returning home.

Hi! I dont have a youtube account but I saw your tumblr linked under your youtube vid of Marlene & Sirius and came here to say say I absolutely adore you edits you've made! I personally love Samara as the fancast and your edits are so well done! They are really amazing, the music, the way you chose and edited scenes, I can feel the chemistry from the edits and I think you are a really talented!!❤️️❤️️
I know a took a while to answer (really sorry!), but messages like these are so special to me. To know that people still love Blackinnon is amazing. Thank you for liking the video (that was the best fanvid I made honestly), I had a blast making it. I wanted to make more of course, but I'm so busy nowadays that I don't know when I'll find the time. Don't worry, I'm still crazy in love with Blackinnon, and I actually have a few things on the work right now. I'm so sorry for not being more active, especially when there's only a few of us left here, and only a few to begin with: So to make it up to all the Blackinnon shippers out there, and to the lovely person who left me that bit of message, I will dig up some of my early fanvid of Blackinnon. This is back when I was still figuring out how to edit and matching up actors together to test the vibes. After making this vid, I decided that Samara and Ben are perfect for Blackinnon.
But for now enjoy this poorly made fanvid of Blackinnon from years ago!
For those of you who are unfamiliar of my other video (the better one, which I'm more proud of), click this link

I'm starting to get why some folks ship Sirius with Marlene:
It's the names!
Sirius means "Glowing/Scorching" while Marlene means "Star Of The Sea" (along with "From Magdala").

Ok everybody listen. There’s this Harry Potter fanfic I used to read really old. I read it probably around circa 2012-16 and like I wanna read it again cuz nostalgia but I don’t remember who it’s by and what it’s called. It was a James and Lily live fic but also Sirius was married I think to Marlene? Idk I know it’s not a common ship anymore (but this was written like pre wolfstar popularity and when everyone thought of Sirius as a like bad boy ladies man type guy. ) and Sirius and maybe Marlene? (Could be an oc female) Had a daughter whose name I can’t remember but I think it was Rhiannon but I think they called her Rhia? Idk and her and Harry dated. And then Harry had a younger sister who I think was called Emma? And Rhia (Sirius’s daughter if that’s her name) had like twin younger siblings and I feel like one of the twins names was kaylee or Kayla something but that could way off. And these twins got into lots of trouble all the time I think at one point they were preschool and lowkey got suspended. There also might’ve been something going on with Emma Potter and malfoy?? But I could be wrong. And honestly that’s all I remember??? All I know is I read it on fanfiction.net long before I discovered a03. I know that’s like nothing to go on… But like if someone could please help me find this fic I would be forever indebted to you. Pretty sure it was one of the first fanfics I had ever read and I miss it.
Ps isn’t it weird think about a time when Marlene/Sirius were like such a huge popular couple? Lol can’t even now. But I need this fic cuz it was one of the ones that got me into fan fictions in the first place and it was also really well written.

Sirius strode into the coffee shop, trying to maintain an air of calm he didn't feel.
"No."
Lily stood behind the counter, staring daggers at him. It was especially unsettling as he was the only patron in the shop this close to closing.
"Evening, Red." Sirius nearly flinched under her stare, but as scary as Lily looked, she had nothing on Walburga.
"No."
"Look, I know you're trying to protect your friend-"
"I'm trying to protect my coffee shop." Lily scoffed. "Marlene is known for throwing things when she's this upset."
Lily had a point, but Sirius wasn't going to back down.
"Then we'll go out to your back patio." Sirius walked around the counter and flashed Lily a smile. "Thanks for understanding, Red."
"Sirius!" Lily yelled, but didn't bother to move from her spot at the cash register. "I forbid you from going back there."
So much for approaching Marlene unannounced.
He turned, glaring. Lily waved a delicate hand at him and grinned.
"Well played."
"Don't make her break anything." She blew him a kiss. "Now go."
Sirius did just that.
He finally found Marlene attempting to scale the fencing that wrapped around the patio seating Lily had set up in this garden space.
"Really, Marls?"
"If my jeans weren't stuck it would have worked." She swore as she tried to free her leg.
"Don't rip them." Sirius reached her in three long strides and gently untangled her jeans from the fence. "Can we talk?"
"What's there to talk about?" Marlene snapped but climbed down from the fence so Sirius took it as a good sign.
"Oh, I don't know." Sirius didn't keep the sarcasm out of his voice. "We could talk about what the Iron Lady is up to, or perhaps Her Majesty's most recent tour, or how about this morning when you knocked me senseless by telling me you loved me and then ran before I could get enough of my brain to function to say it back?"
"You didn't say it back!"
Sirius heard the crack in her voice and tried to pull her into his arms but she backed up against the fence.
"I didn't." He dropped his head. "And I'm sorry. I haven't had anyone say that to me since Mia passed. It…well to be perfectly frank with you, I was completely baffled to feel like you'd managed to fill a hole in my soul and to simultaneously miss Mia so brutally all over again that it scrambled my brain."
Marlene stared at him. Sirius watched the fight drain out of her wide eyes as the reality of his words settled.
"Surely someone…" Marlene trailed off, her jaw slacked and he saw the pain shift to a new anger in her ice blue eyes. "You mean to tell me James didn't have the decency to once tell you he loved you in the last six months! You're his bloody brother! I'm going to ki-"
Sirius didn't let her finish. He took her face in his hands, bringing his lips to her in a gentle kiss, cutting through her anger, healing the hurt he'd caused, and proving the three words he spoke next.
"I love you."
She pulled him back to her lips, devouring him, running her nails against his scalp, pulling him closer. He pressed her against the fence, letting his hands roam, giving into the passion that Marlene always stirred in him.
"Go home!" Lily yelled from the door. "I absolutely refuse to let you shag in my cafe."
"Technically, we're not in your cafe, Red. We're behind it."
Marlene snorted, but Lily pointed towards the cafe's front door.
"Go celebrate at home. I'll close up without Marlene."
"Thanks, love." Marlene blew her a kiss and grabbed Sirius' hand. "I'll come in early the day after tomorrow."
"Because you'll be late tomorrow." Lily laughed. "Get out of here."
Sirius didn't wait for Lily to change her mind. He pulled Marlene out the door, dropping a quick kiss to Lily's cheek as they passed.
"Thanks, Red."
"Oh." Marlene stopped. "Tell James I'd like a word with him at some point."
Lily frowned but nodded. Sirius suspected she saw the same danger in Marlene's smile that he had.
Not willing to let anything more escalate, he pulled Marlene to the curb and his waiting motorcycle.
"Hey." She grabbed his shoulder before he could climb on. "I love you."
Sirius cradled her face again and kissed her in the fading sunlight.
"I love you too."

Day 04 - Purpose
AO3 || FF
Hot, that’s what Sirius remembered of that day being hot for all the wrong reasons. It had been one of the hottest days that summer and it seemed that it wouldn’t relent even a bit.
He tried cooling charms to keep from dying of heat, the house had most of the curtains drawn to avoid the sun scorching what was left of his soul. But the end of July was proven to be the worst of the summer and there wasn’t much he could do but try not to move too much.
It was madness, they were supposed to be in England, not the bloody Caribbean. At the rate the temperature was rising, half of the country would be dead of heatstroke.
He tried to rest. He had been going on missions lately, trying to cover for his friends; that were either too busy or preoccupied at the moment. But the bloody heat was not allowing him to.
Grabbing his wand he sat up, maybe he could make the proper charm stick this time around, maybe if he added some timer to it it would work better. He thought.
Sirius didn’t get a chance to get it started when a familiar voice came out of his discarded trousers. Bending, he grabbed the piece of clothing from the floor and took the small mirror from its pocket, the voice of James louder than before.
“Sirius Black!” James' voice repeated into the darkness.
“Yeah, Prongs, I’m here.” Sirius answered, lighting the tip of his wand.
“Finally! Where in the bloody hell are you? Why is it so dark? Are you naked?” All the questions came at once, not letting Sirius reply to any of them, and he didn’t get a chance to, “Nevermind, I don’t want to know. But you need to come.” James rushed, he was flustered, and a bit… worried was one word but Sirius wasn’t sure it was the right one.
“Is everyone alright? Lily? The baby?” Sirius asked, moving to put on his trousers, looking for a shirt that wouldn’t make him die of heat while he reached the Potters.
“I do hope so, because it is coming.” James finally admitted, half of his face in a grin, the other half in a frown.
Sirius stopped for a moment and looked at James, “It’s D day? Merlin’s left ball, the baby is coming! I’ll go grab Marlene and get to yours a–”
“She’s already here, she’s with Lily, they are not letting me in that room.”
His best friend looked worried, he understood why, they were at war, things were happening all over, now James had to protect 2 people instead of just one, and their world got a little bigger. Good and frightening all at the same time.
“Then I’ll bring the Firewhiskey.”
It didn’t take him long to reach the Potters’ home, he was familiar to apparate to certain spots, and he had gone over so much he could do it half asleep. He noticed James was pacing in the living room, none of his other mates were in the room with him. Apparently they were all at missions and calling upon them would endanger their covers. Which sucked for James as he needed someone to vent his energy with, and just Sirius was great but not exactly ideal when they could both hear Lily screaming in pain in the other room.
“This is ridiculous, I’m the father, I should be there.” James said for the tenth time in a row.
“Marlene’s got it, I think Lily wants you to think like a dad and not like a Healer at this moment. They’ll call if they need help.” Sirius said, patting his friend’s shoulder, grabbing a forgotten Quaffle from one of the corners of the living room, throwing it at James so he would have an outlet for the pent up energy. Heat forgotten by the needed of taking care of his brother.
It took hours to get any news from the room, until finally a small cry of a little baby entering the world broke through all the tension. Sirius and James smiling broadly, hugging each other.
“I guess you are a father now, Mr Potter.” Sirius teased.
“Godric, I don’t think I’m ready for being Mr Potter just yet.” James laughed, feeling a bittersweet moment, he wanted his parents to meet Harry, he guessed he was the new Mr Potter of the family.
“You’ll do just fine.” Sirius assured him, patting his shoulder and guiding his best mate towards the bedroom.
They were finally let in by a sweaty but happy Marlene, who couldn’t stop smiling. James gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek before passing to the two figures in bed, settling next to Lily.
He brushed the sweaty hair out of Lily’s face and smiled at her and then at the buddle in her arms, “Everyone okay?” he asked to know one in particular.
Marlene replied, “10 fingers and 10 toes, all there, none missing. Same with the Potter’s mane.” chuckling, she moved next to Sirius wrapping her arms around him.
Sirius did the same, kissing the top of her head, being distracted almost immediately by a gasp from James as he held the newborn in his arms.
“He’s perfect.” Sirius heard him say.
“He really is.” Lily replied in a soft and croaked voice. Sirius couldn't imagine how she was awake, much less talking. It sounded like she had a hard time bringing the little guy into the world, but her eyes had a new fire in them. Something that he couldn’t quite place as something he had seen before.
Lily turned to James, who was mesmerised by his kid and asked: “Did you tell them?”
James shook his head, “Wanted for us to do it together.”
“Tell us what?” Sirius asked, worried for the first time that afternoon. Marlene sensing it just gave him a gentle squeeze, hoping it would bring him some calm in a moment that was supposed to be filled with joy.
Lily looked at them and smiled, “We talked about it, but we wanted to make a proper dinner, it just has been hard to get everyone together. We want you to be Harry’s godparents. If you’ll have him.”
Marlene looked at Sirius and then at the Potters, not sure what to do at the moment. Sirius seemed to be blank in expression, something that rarely happened. And she had just delivered a baby, she was exhausted and thought she had missed something, the bad end of this moment that seemed too good to be true. “You mean it?” she asked, perplexed that she was even considered, she always thought that Mary or Doe would be the ones to be chosen.
“We wouldn’t want it any other way.” James replied, smiling at them. Sirius still frozen on the spot.
“Love?” Marlene asked, looking at Sirius like he was about to break, or scream, or run. Lately the emotions were all over the place, and the war just made everything so dark that big announcements could be met with unexpected reactions.
Sirius looked at his family. Exhausted Lily, enthused James, worried Marlene and all he could do was blink one more time, like his brain couldn’t accept this happiness to be real after all the darkness. Yet it was, he was there, they all were, surrounded by this new person that seemed to pull them all together.
“It’ll be an honour.” he finally said, smiling at his family, remembering why was he fighting for.

Blackinnon Fest 2024 | Day 1
Word count: 328 Prompt: Trick
Sirius shifted his gaze from the parchment in his hand to Marlene, and then over his shoulder to the Slytherin table. His face turned ashen. He would have suspected a cruel April Fool's prank if it hadn't been for the neatly imprinted Black Family seal on the back of the envelope and the printed Black Family crest on the parchment. Unless someone had broken into his father's study, the letter was undeniably authentic. Nevertheless, Sirius found himself rereading the letter multiple times before he could accept that it had indeed been sent by his parents.
"Are you alright?" Marlene asked with concern when she noticed Sirius' vacant stare from across the table, "You look like you've seen a Dementor." Sirius gave her a wry, lopsided smile and pointed at the letter in his hand. "Letter from your parents?" she asked sympathetically, "what is it this time? Have they finally disowned you?"
Sirius scoffed, shook his head, and wordlessly handed her the letter. Marlene examined it carefully as if she expected a biting envelope from Zonko's Joke Shop. The parchment was thick and ornated with shiny silver and green lines surrounding the Black Family crest and motto Toujours Pur . The handwriting was incredibly neat, almost mechanical.
But the flashy appearance could not sugarcoat the bleak content of the letter. With each line, the colour drained from Marlene's face until she, too, looked like she had a run-in with a Dementor.
"We're dead", she sighed.
"You will be fine", Sirius calmed her, "because there is no way I'm going to introduce you to my parents. I'd rather return empty-handed."
"How do they know?"
Before Sirius could reply, the answer came flying onto their table in the form of a pygmy owl. It carried a small, ripped piece of parchment and flew off as soon as Sirius had untied the message.
It read:
Trick me once RAB

Sirius Black x Marlene McKinnon
Fluff and angst
Warnings: mentions sexual themes, pregnancy, anxious feelings.
******
As footsteps pattered around clumsily downstairs, Marlene shot awake.
It was still dark, probably only three or so in the morning, she estimated, but that didn't stop anyone from getting post-alcohol munchies.
Especially if it was one of Sirius' friends.
Sirius.
She glanced down at his still form with a small smile, concluding that he was asleep, as the memories of the happy night before slowly trickled through her brain. She shifted softly to exit the tangle of sheets surrounding her, with long pauses in between each movement, so not to wake him.
It was to no avail; before she was halfway done, his warm arms enveloped her, pulling her down once more and into his embrace.
She opened her mouth to protest, but he clamped a hand over it, burying his head into her golden locks.
"You don't have to leave," he murmured into her hair, "it's only James."
"But-"
"But what?" he chuckled, his lips stretching into a fiendish grin as he pulled away to look at her. "Prongs knows we've loved each other since Hogwarts. He won't interrupt. Besides, he's absolutely smashed from last night."
"Alcohol or Lily?" Marlene asked, settling into his shoulder with a smirk.
Sirius paused to consider, letting out a low hum.
"I think mostly beer, but they might want a Harry 2.0. He might've got lucky." He chuckled.
"Not as lucky as you were last night though," Marlene joked, grinning widely at him.
"I think you'll find that you  were the lucky one, one of the blessed few-"
"Blessed few," Marlene snorted, "Tell that to three-quarters of the girls in our year. Sirius, you were Hogwart's H-"
"-to ever have the honour of being in the legendary Sirius Black's company for the night." Sirius finished, pressing a kiss to the bridge of her nose.
"And also being his favourite of all of them."
And so started a perfect day, they thought, with a series of soft, early morning kisses.
If only they knew just how downhill things would get from that day forth.
*******
Marlene tried not to think about the confrontation that would have to take place.
Even as the result papers rustled in her handbag, even as she walked past a mother on the street, running with a pram containing a crying child, and even as she viewed a window plastered with posters advertising naturopathic births.
Instead, she kept her mind on her work. On the smell of ale and butterbeer, the low noise of people's conversations, the taste of good, warm pub food on her lunch break.
However much she tried, she could never visualise that for more than a second before her thoughts returned to those damning papers in her bag. The results papers containing the bold, black word: POSITIVE.
And how she was sure that would shatter her relationship with Sirius.
Sure, Lily's pregnancy had been fine, and James had been a wonderful father to Harry. But everyone had known that they were soulmates, and that they would forever be perfect together, no matter what the world threw at them.
Her relationship with Sirius had never been like that. There had been luck, love, and wanting, but never had their been fate and circumstances that simply weaved together perfectly in their favour.
And that was why everything would fail.
Too soon, the red door to the Marauder's shared apartment appeared, setting her nerves fraying once more.
How could she explain her situation to him in this state?
"Afternoon, Marlene," A voice called cheerily behind her, and she spun to face Remus, unfortunately also back from his day working at Flourish and Blotts.
"Afternoon," She replied, willing her voice to not shake. Thankfully, it didn't, sort of.
"Are you. . . going in?" Remus asked hesitantly, eyeing her confused, "Or are you waiting for something? You seem reluctant."
"Oh yeah, definitely, I'm going in, it's just," Marlene floundered for an excuse, her eyes scanning the environment around her, and focusing on distant white flowers "I'm just admiring the asphodel."
"Peter's asphodel?" Remus questioned, seeming to suppress a grin.
"Yes," she answered, although it was more of a question at his sudden humour.
"The one you told him last week to pull out because it was the 'most damn ugly plant you'd ever seen, and you'd studied herbology, so  you knew some damn ugly plants'?"
"Your recall abilities make it very hard to lie, Remus," she grumbled, although part of her relaxed at his humour.
"And your lack of them make you a very horrible liar," he responded with an even wider grin, "Now, tell me, why aren't you going in?"
And it might've been the most stupid, awful thing to do, but Marlene couldn't handle the weight of her secret anymore.
She told him.
And felt terrible as he remained silent, terrible as every trace of humour Remus had had on his face vanished.
Finally, after careful consideration, it seemed, he spoke.
"Marlene," he began, gazing into her eyes with the wisdom of a king, "I appreciate so much that you trust me enough to tell me this - thank you. But you and I both know that I'm not the one you've got to tell."
"Yeah," was all she could utter.
"If you need any more help, remember that James, Peter and I - we're always here for you. I'm sure Sirius will understand - James did - but if he doesn't, then we'll support you, and as will Dorcas and Lily and Mary."
Marlene nodded, feeling numb inside as she and him steadily inched towards the door.
The red door opened, and with it, Marlene's door to emotions closed. Instead, a strong resolve and seriousness took over, and as she ventured in, she couldn't find it within herself to be frightened anymore.
*********
And quite simply, she told Sirius.
His reaction was not one she'd anticipated at all.
The moment she'd finished speaking, he'd picked up the essay he'd been writing - his application to become an auror - and began tearing the corner.
Their argument had started from there.
"Sirius, this is final, I won't let you do this," she said, deadly serious, "I won't let you sacrifice the fight, I won't stop one of the Order's greatest assets from helping us all survive over something like this!"
"Marlene, I don't care!" he retorted, "I won't fight if it means abandoning you! My duty as the father of this child is to be with it. And I want to do that. I want to be with you, helping you bring it up and keeping it safe."
"I can't let you do that," she said, her voice cracking, and tears beginning to well, "I can't let you give up on your dream just for me."
"You are my dream, Marlene," he said desperately, "you're the reason that I get up every morning, that I keep fighting."
She smiled at the ground; softly, sadly.
"You don't mean that," she whispered, her shattered eyes meeting his, "you love me, but you wake up for hope, the fight, for your family - James, Remus, Peter, Harry. And the fight is where you should rightfully be, not tending to me. You have so much to continue doing, Sirius, I'm just a little, unimportant label in your universe."
And in her eyes, he saw that she knew she could learn to believe that what she said was true. That she was willing to simply leave and forget in order for things to be easier for him. As if she was a pretty face he occasionally adored that he could discard at any point.
"I've been mates with James since I was eleven," he began, sighing, "and yet that was still the most stupid thing I think I've ever heard someone say."
Despite herself, Marlene began to laugh, tears cascading down her cheeks.
He stepped closer to her, snatching up her hands and squeezing them.
"We'll find a way for this to work," he said softly, "a way that we're both happy to do, an equilibrium of sorts. I promise."
And as they held hands, love flowing between them, they both allowed themselves to believe his words.
