Don't Blame Me

Just to touch your face
Keeping a secret at Hogwarts was a near-impossible task, Remus had learned. Sometimes, he was surprised at how long he had managed to hide his own secret. The trick, he had discovered, was making sure to never share anything with a Hufflepuff. Once they knew, the whole school would be in the know within an hour.
"Did you hear about Sirius Black? Everyone's talking about it."
Remus hadn't even made it to the marauders' train compartment when he overheard what had happened.
"He showed up this morning with a black eye. Jen heard from Emily, who spoke to Patrick, who heard from Casey, that he ran away from home on Boxing Day. Apparently, he barely made it to the Potter house alive. He ran all night from London."
"That's unbelievable. Where's the proof?"
"Well, Roberta saw Regulus heading towards the Prefects' compartment, and she told Sam, who told Tiffany, who told me, that he was wearing the family ring, which means he's the official heir now."
"Merlin, that's insane."
Remus had heard enough and started running towards the back of the train. He hadn't spoken to his friends over the break, his father having blocked all wizarding contact while Hope's family was visiting for Christmas.
He slammed open the compartment door to find his friends, Sirius with his head on James's lap and his feet on Peter, the black eye stark against his pale skin. He started at Remus's abrupt entrance.
"Never pegged you for the dramatic entrance type, Moony." James smirked.
Remus ignored him, staring intently at Sirius.
"You ran away from home?"
"It was more that I was kicked out," Sirius responded, sitting up and stretching. "But, yes, you could say that."
"What the hell happened?"
"Well, Moony, someone told me last term that I should try being honest with myself and it didn't go over well with my mother."
"Thats not what I meant and you know it," Remus responded angrily.
Last term, during their end of term party, Remus had argued with Sirius. There had been tension all night between Sirius taking shots of Firewhiskey and Remus dancing with Benjy Fenwick. He knew exactly what he was doing, even when he pulled Benjy into a corner and let him line his neck with bruises.
Sirius had pulled him into the dorm and they had yelled at each other until James came to calm them down. Remus was furious that Sirius couldn't admit the reason he was so angry. They'd left for the break the next day, barely speaking.
"Hey, Wormtail, let's go find out if the girls have arrived yet," James said, already pulling a confused Peter out of the compartment.
Neither of the two remaining boys paid him any mind, staring intently at each other.
"I did what you asked, Remus, so why are you upset?"
"Are you insane? You know why I'm upset, Sirius. You could've been killed!"
Sirius barely reacted, leaning back against the window and stretching his legs across the seats.
"You know what they say about the Black family madness," he responded. "No one leaves that family sane."
"What did you do, Sirius?"
"I told my mother that I'm gay, that I'm a blood traitor, that I'm in love with my half-blood roommate and that the only way she'd get me to take the Mark was if she killed me first."
He stood up as he spoke, grey eyes blazing and fists clenched, taking a step towards Remus.
"What happened?" Remus breathed.
"She took that as a challenge, so I grabbed my wand and got the hell out of there."
"That's it?"
"That's it. I'm out, burned off the tapestry and everything. Haven't got a penny to my name besides the pocket money Effie gave me this morning." He reached out and traced a finger down the scar on Remus's cheek. "It's done, Moons. I'm yours and you can take me or leave me. If this is all I get, I can live with that. It was worth it."
Remus leaned closer and kissed him slowly, letting them relax into each other.
"You're insane."
Sirius grinned and pressed another kiss to his lips.
"Can't blame me for that, love. It's genetic."

This is kind of a rough question, but do you think Sirius made the right choice by running away? Personally I have mixed feelings on that(depending on what version of Sirius Runs away I am reading), but I do think it was an understandable decision. I believe that O and W really did love him, but the whole dynamic was very dysfunctional(especially when S was a teen) and that likely led to Sirius finally deciding to run away. I do believe that O and W are allowed to feel hurt by the situation, but at the same time they’re also the ones to blame as well 🤷‍♀️. (I feel sad for saying this, because I love them both and Sirius and I don’t think Sirius is perfect either, but also a 15-16 year old doesn’t run away from home for no reason 🤷‍♀️😢$
It's a very grey area, honestly. Of course, in canon we don't actually know the full facts as to what led to him running away. We know there were deep clashes of beliefs by that point between Sirius and his family, but his explanation of having "had enough" of them leading to him running away doesn't offer much of an explanation overall. I personally imagine there being some big, final row between him and his mother which was basically the final straw and leading to him finally taking the plunge and leaving. Others imagine a scenario in which he's being physically attacked by his family. I find this less plausible but that's a whole other debate that's already been had many times over.
Whatever happened, I'm sure there was hurt on both sides. Sirius is no shrinking violet and he can certainly gives as good as he gets. If there was a final row between him and Walburga, I can imagine hurtful things being said on both sides. And I'm sure that Sirius's behaviour at home leading up to him running away must have hurt his family as much as he hurt them with their response. I'm sure there are many real-life parents out there who have had heated rows with their teenagers over rebellious behaviour who have been left feeling hurt themselves. It's not a situation which can be boiled down to "Sirius/his parents were right" vs "Sirius/his parents were wrong".
Ultimately, I don't think that the event of Sirius running away in itself was the main event to judge him and his parents on, but everyone's reaction to it. I don't doubt that Sirius's parents were distressed, angry and upset to find that he had disappeared. But I also don't doubt that they knew where he'd gone. Surely any parent's reaction when their child is missing for any length of time would be to check if they're with their friends. In this case, that is of course James Potter.
Did Orion and Walburga attempt to find out if Sirius had indeed gone to the Potters'? And assuming that they did know where their son was, did they attempt to try and bring about his return to them? Personally, I don't think so. They're proud, stubborn people, and I can't see them sending any "Please come home, we miss you" letters to Sirius. At most I could imagine them considering attempting to bring Sirius home by force, but perhaps they wisely realised that this would only lead to even more anger, resentment and a stronger than ever desire to run away again.
And likewise, I can't see Sirius ever reaching out to attempt to make amends. To be fair, he did cut ties from his family at a point where associating with known pureblood supremacists and rumoured Voldemort followers (was Bellatrix and co.'s association with Voldemort public knowledge?) would have been damaging to the war effort, but discounting all that, I don't think he ever truly attempted to understand his parents' perspective in the situation. I don't think he ever truly understood that he'd hurt them as much as they'd hurt him.
In conclusion (how did this get so long lol), I think Sirius likely made the right decision for himself in the moment. He was likely feeling very hurt, probably upset, and that he needed to get out of this situation for his own wellbeing. But I think it's how both he and his family reacted in the aftermath that they should be judged on. Both sides could have done things better, and the fact that neither party attempted to reach out means that they're all to blame for the fact that they never reconciled.

“Go fish.” Remus scoffed at James. James sighed and grabbed a card from the deck.
“Got any 5’s?” Sirius asked Peter. Peter groaned and handed his 5s over.
Sirius grinned at him. He sat back in Remus’s lap, who had an arm protectively around him. “3s?” Remus asked Sirius.
“Go-“
There was a careful knock on the door. It was quiet, almost as if it were barely there. James looked at everyone. “I’ll get it I suppose.” He said, getting up from his spot on the floor.
He opened the door carefully. “Hello-“ He started, before swinging the door open. Sirius began growing worried as James sat there with his mouth agape.
“James who is?” Remus asked.
James, who was shaken out of his trance by a small, shy voice that he would have never expected from the type of person he was say; “It’s fine, I’m sorry, i’ll go.”
“Wait!” He called, grabbing his hand. “Regulus, come in.”
Sirius immediately got up and went to the door. “Reggie?” He said. He looked at the blood he was soaked in.
“James who is it?” Effie Potter called down from the stairs.
“It’s Regulus, mum!” James called.
Effie came running down the stairs, a hand covering her mouth when she saw him. “Oh you poor dear, let’s get you cleaned up.”
“You’re staying.” Sirius told Regulus.
“I will if they are alright with it.” Regulus retorted.
And James was so happy he didn’t even realize that Regulus’s gaze lingered on James for longer than normal.

GL manga recs:
Tumblr media
Summary: Maki's first love was her high school classmate, a girl named Midori. But Midori broke up with Maki at graduation, saying they were now "too old to be fooling around dating girls." Ten years later, Maki still can’t get Midori off her mind, and when the two women reconnect after a chance encounter, Maki realizes that, while her feelings haven’t changed, Midori has long moved on—in fact, she's engaged. Yet the more Maki hears Midori talk about her soon-to-be-husband, the more red flags she notices. And Midori has another secret, one she hasn’t yet shared with Maki. Will it be the last blow to Maki's hopes that their romance might be rekindled? Or will it be the push that sets them on a new path—one they'll travel together?
Review:
There's so much depth to this. At a glance it looks like a simple story. You read the summary and think oh well it's the same old plot of getting back with your ex but it's not. It deals with heavy topics like abusive relationships, comphet and the fear of being alone. It's very realistic in its portrayal. Both of the women are very well written especially Midori.

Summary: Cooking is how Nomoto de-stresses, but one day, she makes way more than she can eat by herself. And so she invites her neighbor Kasuga, who also lives alone. What will come out of this dinner invitation?
Review: This manga is such an excellent read. There's so much that I love about this manga. I don't wanna spoil it so I'm gonna let you find out on your own. It points out the troubles women face due to the stereotypical portrayal of them in society. There's a good amount of discussion on lgbt especially on Nomoto's end. I won't say much about Kasuga because I don't wanna mistakenly spoil her past. There are also new characters in vol 3 who are as well written as the main characters. The women in this story are very well written! I really recommend this one! Also trigger warnings are given before anything heavy or disturbing is mentioned in this manga.

Summary: Dani's promising future as an elite athlete is cut short when, during the middle of the television broadcast competition, her heart collapses. This ordeal will not only affect her health, but also destroy her relationship with her mother and skip her tennis career. In order to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and all its problems, she decides to go with her cousin to the small coastal town Levant and it is there where she will meet Blanca, a girl full of life and love for astronomy who will remind her that life can be beautiful and that Dani can shine again as the stars do.
Review: This is very short but still a good read. Even though I wished it were longer, it still managed to carry out the development between the two main characters. The only issue I had with this is, since the manga is very short, it fails to properly carry out the development between Dani and her mom.
