I have this headcanon that while Sirius was being dragged into his cell by the dementors Fudge was there and the last thing Sirius said before getting into his cell was " Tell Remus Lupin I love him. " with no hope that those words would reach Remus. One day Fudge happened to run into Remus and he mockingly told him what Sirius said. Remus pretended to be disgusted but as soon as he was alone he cried his eyes out and cried himself to sleep that night.
