Sistermon Noir debuted along with her younger sister Sistermon Blanc in Digimon Collectors back in 2012. They later appeared in 2017 in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory's Chapter 7, as well as being obtainable as partner Digimon.

When the game was localized, Sistermon Noir was changed to Sistermon Ciel, due to her invoking religious imagery being considered a no good for North America.

The European version did not get censored though. Some screenshots for comparison:

in 2018, a year after the North American release of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory, Sistermon Ciel got officially added to the Digimon Reference Book. It was also obtainable through a download code in the Digimon Pendulum Ver. 20th.

While her model in Hacker's Memory was only a recolor with a few very simple model changes, in both her normal and awakened form, she received a redesign with her introduction to the Reference Book. This also changed her weapon of choice from Sistermon Noir's guns to a katana. The Book states that she is the elder twin sister of Sistermon Noir and an assassin at night.

Now, I think there is a conversation to be had about Sistermon Noir's cencorship. Where is the line? Why is Sistermon Noir not okay, but Sistermon Blanc and Sistermon Ciel are alright? Is it just because of the black nun outfit? Isn't the name "Sistermon" and a white nun outfit also invoking relgious imagery?

Also why is this not acceptable for christian imagery, but the monk imagery of Sanzomon is no problem?

Now I am not saying there should be more cencorship. I just think it's somewhat hypocritical. Having grown up in Germany, where this kind of cencorship is not present, and with words like "hell" ("Hölle") or "damn" ("verdammt") being very much present in children's television, seeing Sistermon Noir getting completely wiped from the Western version of the Digimon Card Game is just ridiculous to me. But that is my personal opinion of course.

Now, to the cards. All cards of Sistermon Noir got replaced with Sistermon Ciel in the English release. Name and Type were all changed accordingly, however recent Errata added that each Sistermon Noir is supposed to also be coinsidered as being named Sistermon Ciel and having the type Data, as well as all Sistermon Ciel to also be considered as being named Sistermon Noir and having the type Virus. In BT10 Sistermon Ciel got her first card in the Japanese release, which of course then was kept as is in the English release.

Furthermore, cards that featured Sistermon Noir had her erased.

Ends up listening to everything and doesn't speak much because she doesn't want to seem rude or self centered.

Asks to keep copies of pictures that are shown to her.

Sistermon Ciel

She's getting conversations ready she wants to have with everyone. She's curious on how everyone has been doing.

Talks endlessly for hours with everyone, she's happy and wishes she can continue speaking with them.

Takes a lot of selfies with everyone and let's them know she will miss them.

Sistermon Noir

She's very excited, she knows what she's going to tell and ask everyone when she meets them.

Keeps the conversation going as she looks through photo albums they have made.

Is upset when it's time to go, but assures them she'll return excited to talk more.

That time censorship made a new Digimon (and why it should happen again)

Digimon's English releases have honestly gotten away with a lot that many other dubs wouldn't be allowed to. Compare Yu-Gi-Oh's dub inventing the shadow realm to avoid having characters die to Digimon Adventure's dub having a prominent side character die in part of a story arc where the number of the beast is a main plot point and getting away with it completely uncensored. But censorship does still happen to Digimon and one time it created a new Digimon species.

Meet the Sistermons.

Consisting of Sistermon Blanc and Sistermon Noir, these nun-like Digimon with weapons have shown up in a few things, but it was their appearance in the video game Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth (specifically the Hacker's Memory expansion) that triggered censorship. Someone on the localization team decided that a nun wielding guns was not something they wanted in the game. Apparently it was to avoid upsetting religious groups. But Sistermon Noir is part of the plot and you can't just cut her from the game. So the localization team pallet swapped her from a realistic black and white nun outfit to a white and cyan one, edited a few other details, and renamed her Sistermon Ciel. Apparently someone at Bandai really liked this idea because they decided to make Sistermon Ciel an official Digimon, giving her a redesign to not look like a pallet swap.

Sistermon Ciel has been adopted as an official Digimon. She got a reference book entry, has shown up in the card game, got official art of her with the other two Sistermons, and appeared in an episode of the anime Digimon Ghost Game. It doesn't get more official than that.

Here's where I think this should happen again. Back when the anime Digimon Savers was getting dubbed into English as Digimon Data Squad, the localization team ran into a problem. One episode featured BomberNanimon, a bomb with a face and limbs, as the monster of the week. Disney was handling the localization at the time and told the dub team that they absolutely could not have a giant living bomb destroying a fairground on the show. However the team couldn't just cut this episode because it's important to one of the main character's arcs. So, in a bit of rebellion and a tongue-in-cheek reference to the show Bobobo-Bo-Bobobo, which had recently finished airing, the team decided to edit BomberNanimon into a giant orange named Citramon. And Toei (who is in charge of Digimon in anime) signed off on this change. They even came up with the name Citramon after vetoing the proposed Tangerinemon.

What I'm saying here is that it would be absolutely hilarious if Bandai announces a big reveal and it turns out that the reveal is that Citramon is getting official art, a reference book entry, and will be showing up in the card game or next virtual pet. Please make it happen, Bandai.

Dianamon (he absolutely hated being misgendered when in that form by humans who made silly assumptions based on his appearance).

Sometimes Taka digivolves from his Lunamon form into

NoirSistermon ("No, I don't know why the hell I digivolved again into a Digimon with sister in their name!!") then

Zamielmon.

Sometimes Taka digivolves from his Moonmon form into

VioletElecmon then

Angemon then

Angewomon (Taka: "For Moon's sake, why??!!").

Taka in his VioletElecmon form matrix digivolving with Sasuke results in Dianamon (Dianamon: "Not again!!").

Although both Taka & Sasuke dislike all the femininity these various forms include, they grow comfortable with it when humans (especially the other 5 DigiDestineds) support them instead of misgendering them.

I'm glad you and your cat is okay. I got a request. Can you do a scenario were Sistermon Blanca gets invited to there Tamers family gathering. But because several people are missing Sistermon Blanc is able to invite a few people. So she invites The other Sistermons along with Jesmon and Gankoomon. Gankoomon also decides to invite a few of his friends. And when I say a few friends I mean ALL OF THE ROYAL KNIGHTS.

Sistermon Blanc inviting her own "family" to her Tamer's family gathering, and Gankoomon invites a "Few" of his own friends..

When Sistermon Blanc heard her Tamer's family gathering was going to happen, she got fairly excited over it. Especially more so when she figured out that she was invited to it! But when it got closer, and her Tamer realized that some of the family couldn't make it... Well, they told Sistermon Blanc she could invite some people if she wanted.

Which may or may not have been a good idea. For she had planned to invite her own family -- Sistermon Ciel and Sistermon Noir -- and then her "brother" Jesmon and their practical father-figure Gankoomon. She was looking forward to having them all interact with her Tamer and their family as well!

But it seemed Gankoomon took the invite to a gathering to invite MORE Digimon friends to it, should they wish to come anyway... and those invites were sent directly to the other Royal Knights. He wanted this gathering to be big! It wasn't going to do with so little people attending, so he took it into his own hands.

Funnily enough, quite a few of the Royal Knights did show up! There were only a few that didn't go, as they were either too busy or they apparently "didn't get the invitation". But either way, Gankoomon was plenty happy with the turn out!

Sistermon Blanc's Tamer did have to ask exactly WHY so many more Digimon were there compared to their own family, and Sistermon Blanc can only give a soft giggle and innocently tell her Tamer that she just had to invite her own family -- and it wasn't her fault that Gankoomon decided that it needed to be an even BIGGER family gathering.

It is a fairly fun and... VERY interesting gathering. The Royal Knights that did appear having rather friendly conversation with Sistermon Blanc's Tamer and their family. It was fairly nice, and Gankoomon was... well, acting as a very, VERY proud "father" that he was over the Sistermons and Jesmon.
