Then he looked up meeting the mandalorian's visor, with those half blue and half golden eyes, a reminder that he wasn't, indeed, a Sith Lord anymore in the strict sense of the word. He squinted considering that this was a gift, something Din Djarin gave him without even knowing it, something that Luke Skywalker accepted and now he was halfway, trapped between the light and the darkness. Maybe forever.
Chapter 7: Aurora
His mind swirled around his old Master's words while he was putting the handcuffs around the mandalorian's wrists.
"Through the force things you will see. Other places. The future. The past." Yoda's wise words coming from the past to haunt him. Another crossroad, another desperate attempt to save Leia's life, and by extension, this time, Din Djarin's son as well.
He frowned thinking back to the last time he let visions guide him and the way he failed. He stared at his gloved hand absentmindedly brushing the mandalorian's knuckles with his fingers. He made a reckless decision back then, but he was a young inexperienced Jedi's apprentice, now he was a Sith Lord, full of rage and ready to kill the Emperor to protect the child and his twin sister, and more important, he was ready to die in order to achieve that.
"Do as I say." Darth Zoon arched one brow staring at the mandalorian's visor "Now follow me." He said and then he turned around, the man in beskar complied, walking behind him.
The Sith walked down the corridors with a confident gait as his cape floated behind his form, Commander Sulter walked into him, the man raised his eyebrows surprised "My Lord, you left your chamber." He absentmindedly pointed out but before the Commander could even regret his own words, Zoon held a hand up at him, curling it into a fist and twisting his wrist, breaking the man's neck. He looked at the mandalorian over his shoulder and kept walking. By the time Darth Zoon and the mandalorian got inside the Lambda-class shuttle's cockpit they were the only two people alive in the base.
"That wasn't smart." The mandalorian said under his breath sitting on the copilot seat. Luke pursed his lips staring at him sideways, moving his fingers in the air and the handcuffs around Din's wrists fell open.
"That was unavoidable. They were instructed to escort me, no exceptions, always." He explained starting the ship "If we want to save your child, this is our only chance." My only chance.
~
Darth Zoon was standing before The emperor, his arms folded behind his body, staring at him tilting his chin up, waiting. He narrowed his eyes under his hood, carefully hiding the feature that would give his secret away, the eyes were the window to the soul and Zoon's soul was now bathed in light, and his eyes were a proof of that, his once golden eyes now caressed by the crystalline blue of his true nature, the eyes of Luke Skywalker.
"I brought you a prisoner, my Master." Zoon put a hand on Din's pauldron forcing him to kneel before The emperor "This mandalorian will lead us to the little force-user creature, he is his guardian."
The emperor dug his fingers into the armrests of his throne "You came here with your hands empty, Darth Zoon." Luke frowned "You brought this useless mandalorian with you, all by yourself and you couldn't even get any information out of him." His Master said, he looked up, his hood revealing a scowl on his pale face "You've failed, Lord Zoon." He added making Luke clench his jaw.
"But you will complete your quest." He raised his voice "Come. Stand beside me."
He blinked considering the emperor's command and then he closed the distance between them, he came to a halt right beside the throne, resting his left hand on the backrest, his piercing half blue eyes on the mandalorian, the man was still on his knees and Luke could sense the way he was locking eyes with Luke behind his visor and he felt the irrepressible urge to protect him from Darth Sidious, his Master, his emperor and the man that corrupted his soul to the core the day his father died. He wouldn't make the same mistake twice, he couldn't save his father then but Din, he knew he would give his life to save Din this time.
The sound of doors sliding open brought him out of his thoughts, he squinted looking behind the mandalorian's form only to find a sight that would haunt him for the rest of his days. Two guards all dressed in red were pushing his twin sister towards the throne.
"Leia." Her name falling from his lips, faintly. His heart skipped a beat as her eyes met his face. He pressed his fingers against the backrest, holding his breath.
The mandalorian was breathing heavily as the princess and rebel leader walked pass him.
His twin sister was handcuffed, her round face flushed out of anger contrasting the black of her outfit, so different to the Leia he once knew.
"You must face Luke Skywalker's past, Darth Zoon." The emperor said standing up slowly "Face his past and you will realize that you're not worthy of your Sith name." Luke's lips parted. "Guards. Leave." The emperor added and soon, the four of them were alone inside the throne room.
"Organa, this is the man that betrayed you." The emperor addressed Leia and Luke looked at him as confusion crossed his features "This is the man that chose to leave you and your people behind." He walked around her in circles while she was staring at her twin brother. "Your own blood." He chuckled softly "The one that share the same womb with you. This man right there killed your friends in cold blood."
Luke took two steps forward "No." He said through gritted teeth.
"Yes." The emperor turned his head to look at him "You were promising once, but look at you now. You think that you can hide your eyes from me under that dark hood? You're weak Darth Zoon, you're nothing like your own father." He looked at Leia again "But this one, this one is as strong as him and she deserves her revenge."
Leia kept staring at Luke without making a move, without making a sound.
The emperor waved his hand in the air opening Leia's handcuffs "When you were suffering, hiding underground and crying your friends, this man was enjoying the luxuries of being their killer. You deserve your revenge, young Organa." He put her lightsaber in her hand "Honour your father."
Leia seized the lightsaber not taking her eyes off her twin brother, Luke pulled down his hood slowly revealing his face, pale and exhausted "I'm sorry Leia." He said with sadness in his eyes.
"Don't listen to him, he's a failure." The old man said in her ear "He threw away the gift that is the power of the dark side, but not you, fierce princess, the force is strong with you, give yourself to the dark side."
Luke was conflicted, deep down he wished his sister would take him out of his misery, since his heart was full of regret and he was convinced that he deserved his punishment, but if Leia succumbed to her hate and destroyed him that would only mean one thing, she would become the new emperor's apprentice.
The tension between them could have been cut with a knife, and the tension became desperation when Din Djarin rose to his feet freeing himself from the cuffs and with a swift move he drew his blaster out pointing at the emperor.
"No!" Luke yelled as the emperor took the blaster from his hand using the force before the mandalorian could even shoot, a grotesque laugh coming from him as he started force-chocking the man in beskar.
"Luke!" Leia called for him but the blonde Sith was frozen, paralyzed staring at the scene unfolding before his half blue and half golden eyes. She ignited her lightsaber but The emperor raised his free hand and the lightsaber flew to him. The Jedi pressed her lips together and made a move with her arm and the emperor was thrown away, his body hitting a wall before rolling down the stairs.
She ran towards Din and the man was coughing leaning on her "Where's the kid, Organa?"
"He's safe, he's not here, I came here alone to end this, The emperor never wanted Grogu, he wanted me, he always knew that I rescued Grogu from Gideon." She frowned staring at his visor "I'm sorry, you and the child got involved in this because of me and because of my bro-" She looked around "Where's my brother?"
The mandalorian turned around but the young Sith, Luke, was nowhere in sight.
~
The blonde followed The emperor to a lower level, his eyes fixed on his Master, he narrowed his eyes while the man laughed at him. Luke prowled closing the distance between them.
"You think you can face me, my apprentice?" He asked mockingly.
"You won't turn my sister like you turned me, I won't let you." Zoon stated curling his hand around his lightsaber hanging from his belt.
The emperor tilted his head, a lopsided grin appearing on his face "Oh. You sound just like your father." Luke frowned "I still can remember his last words before he died." The emperor laughed again "You won't turn my son like you turned me."
Something unpleasant squirmed in Luke's gut and his heart was thudding heavily as his blood boiled inside his veins "What?" He managed to ask.
"In the end, your father showed he was as weak as you." Luke shook his head not breaking eye contact with him. "Yes." The emperor grinned "He tried to save you and I killed him."
Tears started shimmering in Luke's half blue eyes "No." He said under his breath "No." He said louder this time as the sinister laugh of The emperor reverberated throughout the room.
"I do regret that now, you are not half the Sith your father was. But his daughter, what a mighty Sith she will be."
"No!" Luke yelled igniting his lightsaber, the red glowing of his saber bathing his pale face, he leapt forward as The emperor held a hand up and the young Sith froze, The emperor closed his hand into a fist as Luke was tightening the grip around the hilt. The emperor frowned realizing he couldn't take the saber away from Luke.
"Your anger is making you stronger. Yes, let me feel your anger Lord Zoon, even now, when you're facing your ending, let me feel it."
Luke resisted and took a step forward while The emperor laughed endlessly, he kept closing the distance between them and his feet felt as heavy as concrete, but he wouldn't give up, not now. The emperor didn't stop teasing him but he never lowered his guard, when Luke was inches apart from him a scowl crossed The emperor's face, the laugh dying in his lips. Luke looked at him dead in the eye and The emperor looked down frowning only to find that Luke's saber was buried deep inside his chest, he groaned through gritted teeth and pushed Luke back using the force "Die like your father!" He yelled as he raised his hands and Luke could see rays coming from them hitting his whole body.
He fell on his knees "Father." He said under his breath as the most severe pain that he had ever felt was running throughout his bones and muscles "Father." He repeated over and over again until the pain started dwelling somehow, he looked over his shoulder and The emperor was stumbling a little, making him lose focus and the force lightning coming from his hands was now hitting a wall next to Luke, the old man was breathing heavily as he took his hand to Luke's red lightsaber still inside his chest. Luke curled up and then he tried to crawl towards him but the electricity was still running inside his body even when the lighting stopped.
"I am a Jedi." He said between chills and chattering teeth "Like my father before me." He added when he was slowly standing up, as his knees trembled "You've failed your Highness, I've always been a Jedi." He blinked as The emperor looked at his eyes as dread crossed the old man's features.
Luke extinguished his lightsaber still inside him making the old man groan in pain. The blonde was shivering standing there before his Master, the man was fatally injured and Luke wouldn't miss the opportunity. He heard a sound coming from the top of the stairs, he looked up seeing Leia reaching out, her hand so close to him, she was offering him her own weapon. His eyes fixed on his sister's lightsaber, he nodded making the saber fly into his left hand igniting it, her saber was yellow, he frowned remembering the colour of his own eyes while seeing it.
"Die, Skywalker." The emperor said bringing him out of his thoughts as he felt a force pressing around his throat, a ghostly hand choking him slowly, he didn't blink, staring at the man he hated with every fiber of his being, and using his last ounce of strength he crossed the sabers around The emperor's neck, with a swift move of his hands he finally drew in a sharp inhale as the beheaded body of the emperor fell to the ground and in front of him.
Luke tried to walked away from the emperor's corpse but his step faltered, the pain he was feeling with every breath was unbearable, contrasting the feeling of relief while his eyes contemplated the lifeless body of his master. He tried to lean on a ladder but his hand missed it, he gasped as his knees finally gave up. Before he could touch the ground a strong hand was pressing against his chest as an equally strong arm was hooked around his torso. Luke looked up, eyes half lidded, only to find the mandalorian's visor on him, his helmet so close to his face "It's over." Luke muttered blinking, the mandalorian brushed his fingers over his damp hair plastered on his forehead. "It's all over." He said hissing and trembling, limply in Din's arms. He drew a hand up, slowly, and then he caressed the man's helmet "You're free." He said looking at his visor.
The mandalorian nodded slowly "So are you." He replied as Leia appeared from behind the man in beskar, making Luke shift his gaze from Din to her.
The blonde was ashamed but he couldn't stop looking at her, a feeling of homesickness invading him completely, his big eyes roaming all over her face. She held Luke's chin between her thumb and her forefinger smiling softly "Yes, you're free too."
Luke blinked a few times, Leia and Din kept staring at him as the last golden drop in his eyes vanished to finally reveal a soft unpolluted oceanic blue, the one that Leia knew so well.
"Luke." She said under her breath chuckling as her eyes shone, cupping his chin.
"It hurts." Luke sighed digging his fingers into the mandalorian's arms, holding onto them as an anchor.
"I know, Luke." His sister looked around "We need to leave now." She nodded at Din.
"Alright." Din said as he was trying to hoist Luke up with care.
"No. They're going to kill us if-" He breathed in with difficulty "If they see you carrying me."
Leia frowned and nodded at Luke.
~
Luke staggered through the corridors of the space station holding his hand up as he kept repeating under his breath "You can't see us."
Leia was mimicking his brother's technique as both of them were walking shielding Din between them, the mandalorian was holding his blaster in hand ready to shoot, his chest plate moving up and down fast while the twins kept saying "You can't see us. You can't see us." Over and over again. And nobody saw them. They passed through the imps without being noticed until they reached the same Lambda-class shuttle that brought Luke and Din to the Third Death Star.
When the ship left the station an exhausted Luke could hear Leia commanding an attack and a few seconds later a distant explosion made their ship shake a little. Luke was feeling somnolent listening to his own heartbeat, slower than usual but steady, the last thing he saw before closing his eyes was Din's back while he was piloting the ship and he sighed relieved feeling he was leaving Darth Zoon behind. Hopefully, once and for all.
~
"Don't move." Leia's voice blending in with the undecipherable sounds of his dreams. "I'll help you." She said grabbing him by his arm, gently, as Luke rested his back against the pillow.
"Leia?" He said and his voice broke.
"Hi Luke." She smiled.
"Where are we?" He asked looking around, realizing he has never been in that room before.
"Mandalore." She said and Luke looked back at her gaping. "Mand'alor insisted, he brought us here in order to monitor your vital signs and their healers took care of you."
The blonde pressed his lips together staring down, the sheets were soft and clean and he couldn't help the feeling of overwhelming tension and self hatred taking him over "I don't... I don't deserve this." He frowned stroking the sheets covering his knees.
Leia leaned forward resting her hand on his "Stop hurting yourself, you were under the emperor's sway, and even then you chose to fight back, I always knew that this day was coming, Luke." She caressed his hand reassuringly "I knew there was still good in you, brother. I never doubted you."
The words coming from his sister were making his stomach turn, he was feeling nauseous and deep down he didn't think he deserved such display of affection.
That afternoon he left the room as Leia walked beside him, looking at him sideways, ready to hold him if his step faltered. They came to a halt before a large window, Luke adjusted his eyes a little looking up to the sky only to find a resplendent dome above them.
"Look." Leia said pointing at a playground outside.
A little green child with big ears and big brown eyes was playing sitting on the grass, levitating a silver ball, his ears perked when the shining sphere flew to the Mand'alor's hands.
"Is it-" Luke's throat tightened.
"Yes." Leia said caressing his upper arm "It's Grogu." She smiled not taking her eyes off the little one and the mandalorian.
Luke shivered thinking how close he was to give the child to The emperor and his heart broke in two "He looks so happy." He whispered.
His sister nodded "Luke. I need you to know that I don't want to be a Jedi." She made a pause and Luke was holding his breath. "I hate being a Jedi as much as you hated being a Sith." She said lower this time like she was sharing the darkest secret. She faced Luke "But I had no choice."
"I'm sorry." Luke managed to say as he blinked back tears, feeling guilty and heartbroken.
"I know you are." She sighed "The Mand'alor asked me to stay for a while and train Grogu, and I accepted. I think I'm going to come to Mandalore from time to time to train the child but I'm doing this because-" She narrowed her eyes "Because of him not because I want to be a Jedi Master, that's your destiny, not mine." She finally said.
Even now that he could escape from the dark side's seduction Luke was still hurting his people, his heart sank when he understood that his sister was doing this because he failed. She nodded trying to catch his eyes and then leaned in to rest her head on his shoulder "I missed you, Luke." She muttered.
He planted a kiss on her hair "Me too, Leia."
She drew in a sharp inhale hiding her face in his neck "I love you."
I love you too.
~
Luke walked into the throne room trying to hide his uneasiness, his heart was in his throat and his hands were shaking, although they've been shaking for two days now, his body was still reacting to The emperor's attack, no one knew what effects the force lightning would cause to a human body.
He kept walking staring at Din, sitting on his throne, he looked imposing, Luke looked at him when he came to a halt before him, he thought back to the first time he saw the mandalorian in that dungeon back on Mustafar, defenseless and at his mercy, so different from this man before his eyes. Din was resting his forearms on the armrests with his legs spread open and Luke couldn't help but think how much he hurt him when he had the upper hand. He frowned hating himself.
"Mand'alor." He said bowing before him, when he looked up his eyes were trying to find his visor.
"Luke." The mandalorian said nodding "I need to ask you something." Luke nodded back "As you know, the rebel alliance blew up the Third Death Star and The Empire fell." He stood up and then closed the distance between them making Luke's heart skip a beat. "Now, this is the problem, the imperial remnants are scattered throughout the galaxy." His visor fixed on Luke's blue eyes "We need to terminate them, we have no choice."
Luke nodded swallowing hard.
"And since you know them from inside, you're the best ally I can think about." He tilted his helmet.
Luke knew Din was right, they didn't have no other choice but fight against the last of them "I'm listening." He managed to say.
"We agreed to help the Core Words, they're organising a New Republic, Mandalore will answer. I will answer. And maybe I'm being selfish here but I want them dead, I want them as far from Grogu as they can be, and that means I'm gonna kill them."
Luke's eyes went round "I'm in." He said as the Mand'alor tilted his head again and Luke could hear a coo coming from behind him. He turned around and saw little Grogu walking pass him, stretching his little arms out while Din crouched down to scoop him up. Luke's heart melted, the kid in Din's arms was something that looked so natural, so beautiful, he held his breath remembering he used Din's love for the child to coerce him, to take advantage of him only to satisfy his base instincts, and he shook his head disgusted, almost pleading to be punished for such horrible behaviour.
He didn't know what to do when the child chirped looking at him and drawing his little hand up trying to reach out to touch Luke. Before he could react, Din wrapped his hand around the child's, preventing him from touching the blonde.
"I think you understand I don't trust you around Grogu." He said tilting his helmet as he fixed his visor on Luke's face.
Luke's heart broke into pieces but he knew he deserved it, this was his punishment, being around them and knowing that he could never be part of Din's life.
"I understand." He said with a feeble voice.
"We're leaving as soon as you recover completely. Till then." Din said gesturing towards the door and Luke nodded turning around, when he was walking away from them he felt empty and cold, he looked down, ashamed, until the doors closed behind his back.
~
"What if he turn again?" Din suggested resting his back against the wall.
"Din, he won't." Leia shook her head "That's not how the force works."
Din sighed crossing his arms over his chest "Alright."
"I know he hurt you..." She said and Din's shoulders tensed up "But he cares about you, and he needs to do this, he needs to protect the galaxy. He's a Jedi, he won't give this last chance away. Trust me." She pressed her lips together raising her eyebrows "Trust him." She added.
"I trust you." Din said leaning forward "I don't trust him... at least for now." He added leaning back and then he nodded walking away, Leia sighed rubbing her hand across her forehead.
~
Late at night, when the silence overwhelmed him and the feeling of anguish engulfed him, Luke contemplated his reflection in the mirror. He squeezed his eyes shut holding his breath, hands clutching the edge of the washbasin, he opened his eyes slowly, his lips parting slightly as he found that, indeed, his eyes were still blue. He sighed relieved brushing his fingers against his temples as he walked out the fresher, he leaned against the wall staring at the ceiling, his chest tightened and his heartbeat sped up, he swallowed through the lump in his throat, believing that the shadows threatening to catch him were still there, inside him, and a lonely tear rolled down his cheek.
~
The blonde Jedi was lost in thought, absentmindedly rubbing his lips with his fingers, something caught his attention and he frowned, The Mand'alor was sitting on the pilot seat tilting his head, his visor fixed on him, Luke frowned when he realized the mandalorian has been talking to him for a while now but he didn't notice it.
"I'm sorry, did you say something?" He asked avoiding his visor, being around Din was quite a challenge to Luke, he was trying to do the right thing but it hurt terrible, he couldn't shake the memories of the mandalorian naked, marked by him, vulnerable, degraded and his stomach churned, his heart filled with remorse.
"I asked you if you were okay." Din said as he leaned back in the seat, his visor still on Luke's face.
"Yes." The blonde answered staring down but when he looked up he couldn't hold it back anymore "Actually, no. I'm not okay." The Mand'alor rested his hands on his knees, not saying a word like he was trying not to pry but Luke needed to say it, he wanted to say it. "I'm so sorry, Din, so much." He choked on his own words, he blinked staring away, hiding the tears appearing in his eyes, threatening to fall "I hurt you, I need to tell you that I am so sorry, please, don't say anything, just, know that I'm so ashamed and I'm not expecting your forgiveness, because I know I will never forgive myself."
The Mand'alor cleared his throat "I've done my part as well." He shrugged one shoulder, Luke looked at him again as the tears started falling down over his cheeks. "I did what I needed to do to protect Grogu, I don't regret it one bit."
"You did nothing wrong." Luke said under his breath squeezing his prosthetic hand.
"I played along to protect Grogu, so, I know I hurt you too." He looked at the blurry stars before them, nodding. Luke was staring at the back of his helmet thinking that he would give everything he owned to go back to the start and let Din go, even if that meant that he would never had the chance to come back to the light side of the force and die as a Sith, with his heart empty and his soul corrupted.
The months passed and Luke followed Din to the end of the galaxy back and forth, together they became and uncontrollable force, hunting imperial remnants on every world they set a foot on, dismantling labs and facilities and burning them to the ground.
That was the easy part. When he was on a mission with Din he focused on protect him, always shielding him with his lightsaber, the one he designed from a kyber crystal trying to connect with his roots the same day he left Mandalore after his recovering. Holding his new saber, blue like the first one he owned, felt oddly familiar and gave him a sense of control he thought he had lost.
The difficult part was when Din and him parted ways and Luke had to go back to his lonely life, traveling around the galaxy learning about the extinct Jedi Order. And every morning he would look at his reflection in the mirror, searching for the tiniest bit of gold in his blue eyes, every morning without exception, and he sighed relieved when he confirmed that he was still Luke Skywalker. The Jedi. Over and over again.
He saved Din's neck so many times and Din did the same for him. Sometimes, before breaking into an imperial installation Luke's hands couldn't stop trembling as a consequence of The emperor's attack, even a year after the events of that day when Luke faced him, and Din would take the lead, deflecting the blaster shots coming their way with his beskar armour.
Some nights he would squirm in the copilot seat in his sleep, groaning in pain and he would wake up from the worst nightmare covered in cold sweat with his heart pounding in his chest only to find a gloved hand curling around his own as Din's soft modulated voice would soothe him by telling him that he was safe. And he really felt safe there, staring at the mandalorian's visor, squeezing his hand back and blinking back tears. Safe. Every single time.
Everything changed the day they were entering a laboratory and they found two scientists hovering over a little boy lying on a operating table. The two men froze when they saw the Jedi and the mandalorian before them. Luke looked at the boy's face, he seemed asleep and it looked like they were conducting an experiment, Luke knew right away that the child was a force-user.
"Please! Don't shoot." One of the men said as both of them were raising their hands at Din "We're only following orders."
Din shot at them right on the spot "Not anymore." He said drawing his blaster down. The blonde Jedi walked towards the kid.
When he looked at Din over his shoulder he nodded at him "He's alive. He's like Grogu." He explained.
The mandalorian didn't move staring at him "You know what to do." He said and Luke knew what he meant.
They returned to Din's ship walking side by side as Luke was holding the little kid in his arms. It was time. He would fulfill his destiny. He became a Jedi Master that day and the little kid became his first Padawan.
On the rare occasions when Luke stayed in Sundari, capital city of Mandalore, Grogu would try to draw Luke's attention to himself, coming close to him cooing and staring at him with those big brown eyes. And every time someone close to Din would appear to scoop the baby up and take him away from Luke, but not this time. Something was different. No one came to take Grogu away from him and Luke looked around nervously, his eyes found Din, the mandalorian was staring at him from the other side of the room, with a hand on his hip, he looked relaxed, he nodded at Luke, the blonde looked down as the baby was rubbing his boots with his little hands, he hesitated before crouching down finally taking Grogu in his arms. He looked at Din again, as confusion was taking him over, Din tilted his helmet not taking his visor off them and then he walked in their direction, when he finally stood beside them he caressed the baby's ear "He likes you." He said in a low voice "He's always liked you, Luke." He added and Luke's heart gave an extra beat, staring at Din's visor incredulous. Something shifted between them since that day.
~
Exhausted and bruised Luke and Din left the imperial fortress leaning on each other, they barely walked out of this mission in one piece. Luke fell to the ground first and Din followed suit. They were panting and staring at the sky, the thick smoke drifting away before their eyes. They were lying on their backs next to each other trying to catch their breath when Luke felt Din's fingers brushing his own, gingerly, and his heartbeat sped up. He sucked in a breath and turned his head towards the mandalorian, he frowned staring at him, Din was propping himself up on his forearm leaning in close to him, stroking Luke's cheek with his free hand, he grimaced with pain under Din's touch, realizing he had a cut on his cheek "Let me take you to my ship, Luke."
Din insisted on taking care of his wound but Luke refused the offer and when they were traveling back to Coruscant, the planet were Luke built his new Jedi temple, Luke fell asleep on the floor of Din's ship, covered by blankets. He woke up abruptly, drawing in a sharp inhale, crying in silence, shaking and sweating as usual.
"Bad dream?" Din asked him, taking Luke by surprise, he was sitting on the floor with his back propped up against the wall, Luke nodded and Din moved to be closer to him.
Luke froze when Din started soothing his hand on his back staring at his blue eyes pointedly, he looked down at Din's chest plate "I keep seeing it." He frowned looking back at Din's visor "Everything." He blinked "Sometimes it's you, in that bed on Mustafar. Sometimes it's me crying inside my chamber, and sometimes I can see myself walking down the streets of a town or village and I'm trying to prevent my troopers from killing innocent people and every time I'm just late, when I get there... it's always too late." He said gasping between tears. Din nodded drawing his hand up to cup his cheek "But Din, they're not just bad dreams, they're memories." He said in a flood of tears.
Din didn't say a word for a while, finally holding him and Luke cried his heart out pressing his face against his neck clutching his pauldrons.
"Like you said, they are memories." Din said pulling back to stare at his face, then he pointed at Luke's chest "That's not you anymore, I know what's in your heart, mesh'la." Din added resting his hand on Luke's chest right where his heart would be.
Luke's eyes went round, he was holding his breath "What did you call me?" He whispered.
"Mesh'la." Din said in a low-pitched voice. "I'm sure you remember what that means."
Luke swallowed hard frowning. He did remember and that made his heart beat faster, then he shook his head slowly not taking his eyes off Din's visor "Please, Din, don't-"
"I'm sorry but I need to tell you-"
Luke cut him off "No. I hurt you, please, stop." He squeezed his eyes shut but Din didn't listen to him.
"I need to tell you that I care about you, mesh'la." He stroked Luke's arms.
Please don't call me mesh'la. "Please Din, I don't deserve this, please just don't." Luke managed to say as tears started brimming in his eyes. He felt Din's gloved fingers holding his chin tenderly, and he opened his eyes, Din was impossible close and something pleasant squirmed in his stomach.
"Yes, you deserve this, my respect, my admiration, your students' admiration, your sister's love." He made a pause as Luke was breathing heavily. "You really believed that I asked you to work with me all these years only because you knew the imps from inside?" Luke raised his eyebrows. Din clicked his tongue "No, cyar'ika, it was because I couldn't let you go." He moved, pressing in close fitting himself against Luke's body, wrapping his arms around him "Three years Luke, it's been three years and I've seen you, I saw the way your sister's eyes shine when she looks at you, the way you treat your students, the way Grogu loves to be around you and-" He cleared his throat "The way you protected me all this time, you saved my life so many times."
Luke was hardly believing what he was hearing, still he couldn't help but melt in Din's arms, yearning, finally giving in to his own desire.
"There's something I want to give you, Luke. Something that's only for you. Something that I've always wanted to give you." Din said under his breath, pulling back and moving to hover over Luke, his knees on the floor, one of them between Luke's thighs and his hands leaned at both sides of his head "Please, mesh'la, close your eyes." Din asked sending shivers down Luke's spine. The blonde obliged and his heart gave an extra beat when he felt Din's skin against his own, his nose against his cheekbone, a mustache tickling his cheek and soft thin lips brushing the corner of his own "Ah, mesh'la." He said against Luke's mouth, making him shudder as his heart soared and he couldn't hold it back anymore, he ran his hands over Din's back, finally sinking his fingers in his curls, he sighed relishing in how beautiful Din's hair felt against his own skin and the mandalorian let out a little whimper that made Luke's head spin, his hands finally finding his face blindly, he cupped his face and nuzzled his cheek, parting his lips to capture Din's mouth between them, Din groaned against him kissing him back as Luke threatened his fingers in his hair, desperate hands traveling Luke's body, squeezing and stroking as they deepened their kiss and Luke floated in feelings, finally freeing himself from the old memories of a past life riddled with regret and heartbreak. Din broke the kiss still brushing his lips against Luke's "Please Luke, let me love you." He rested his forehead against the blonde's "Let me love you, cyare. I'm begging you." Luke sighed digging his fingers into his waist "I love you, Luke, I've always loved you."
Luke encircled him with his arms, thinking back to that time when he was longing for Din's love, for Din to make love to him, back on Mustafar when he didn't know that his feelings for Din were harrowing his Sith's shell, as the crack let the light in, slowly, pouring down on him.
He caressed Din's face as his reddened kissed lips curled up into a smile "Din?"
Din hummed.
"Do you know how and when I realized that I was in love with you?" Din blinked against the sensitive and blushed skin of his cheek, making him understand that this was real, he was really holding the man he loved in his arms, finally. "When I saw my reflection in your chest plate and my eyes were no longer completely golden. You brought me back... I came back because I loved you. Because you were seeing me, the real Luke, when no one else could."
"Fuck, Luke." Din said breathing hot puffs against the blonde's lips and Luke could hear the way he choked on his words. "I didn't... I didn't know that was the reason, cyare. You're killing me." He added caressing Luke's waist pressing a soft kiss on his lips.
Luke sighed pressing his eyelids tighter against each other as tears pricked his eyes, realizing that for the first time in years, these were tears of happiness "And I still love you, Din. I love you." He said holding him tight in his arms and he felt Din's lips on his eyelids "I love you, Din."
~
The morning light caressed his skin making him open his eyes slowly, he stirred beneath the sheets, finally leaving the bed and heading to the fresher. When he was patting his face with a towel yawning, he frowned staring at himself in the mirror as something caught his attention, something that wasn't there the day before. He leaned forward and cocked his head for a better look, indeed that wasn't there the day before.
When he leaned back he saw something out of the corner of his eye, he turned his head towards the door, it was Din rubbing sleep from his eyes leaning his back against the doorframe "Morning, cyare." He leaned in to press a kiss on Luke's temple.
"Morning, love." He said running his hands over his own hair "You see this? I found it a minute ago." He said and he sounded furious.
Din pouted and looked at him "That gray hair?" He raised his eyebrows "I hate to break it to you but, mesh'la that's not your first one." He chuckled cupping Luke's face to kiss him and he laughed into the kiss.
"Really? Oh, I didn't kriffing notice it till today." He wrinkled his nose "Fuck." He muttered staring down.
"Don't be mad mesh'la, that only means that we're growing old together." He smiled at Luke so charmingly that it took his breath away. Growing old together, what a sweet beautiful promise.
The blonde smiled shaking his head "You're right."
"Now, come on, your son is waiting for his Jedi training and I bet he's already burning down his bedroom." Din said laughing.
"Alright, just give me a minute and I'm going to Grogu's room, and I doubt it, he would never set his bedroom on fire." He frowned "Wait, what is he up to?" Din left the fresher "Hey Din, what's he up to?"
Din answered from the other side of their room "I can't hear you, I'm putting my helmet on."
Luke huffed staring at the mirror "My clan is going to be the end of me." He chuckled, then he frowned and froze realizing that he didn't remember the last time he looked at himself in the mirror to find golden stains in his blue eyes. A lopsided smile appearing on his face "Yeah." He said under his breath as a warmth feeling was engulfing his whole being, knowing that he didn't need to, not anymore. He was Luke Skywalker, a Jedi, like his father before him, husband to Mand'alor Din Djarin, father to Grogu Djarin Skywalker, Leia Organa's brother and Han Solo's friend. The kid from Tatooine, the man from nowhere and everywhere. And he embraced it.
He breathed in leaving the fresher to join his family, to join his clan. His own clan of three.

Continuation from HERE
Anakin whirled to face his Master, “Did you know Yoda had a baby?” he asked incredulous and slightly betrayed.
“What? No. Also he could just be another of Yoda’s species. Obviously.” Internally Obi-Wan thought about the still unnamed larva in a hidden aquatic creche, but the Mandalorian’s associate even called him Baby Yoda...
“Unbelievable,” Dooku muttered. “That little green hypocrite.”
“Did you know about this?” Anakin asked the Sith Lord, temporarily forgetting about the fight in favor of the revelation that Yoda might also have a secret family.
“Of course not, the troll never tells anyone anything,” Dooku ranted, deliberately setting aside the fight in favor of unloading decades of suppressed irritation with his former Master.
“I feel we might be jumping to conclusions here-” Obi-Wan offered weakly.
Anakin scoffed. “He literally just called him Baby Yoda,”
“Loathe as I am to admit it, your apprentice is correct. It would seem the Grandmaster of the order has been keeping some secrets.”
“This is absurd!” Obi-Wan protested as the small child on the balcony above tilted his head curiously, watching the conversation below with interest from the safety of his Buir’s arms.
“I agree.” Anakin said self-righteously. “If Yoda can have a baby then- then everyone in the order should be allowed a family.”
“Anakin...”
“Anakin, as interesting is this all is, I’m still in somewhat of a bind over here,” the Chancellor called across the hall, irritated and somewhat alarmed by the sudden outbreak of peace in the room.
“We’ll be right with you Chancellor, don’t worry!” Obi-Wan called back.
“We just need a minute to figure some Jedi business out!” Anakin added.
“You there- Mandalorian” Dooku called up sharply.
“...Yeah?” the Besker-clad warrior answered uncertainly.
“What is the parentage of the child in your arms? How did you come to possess him?” The count's question cut through everything else in the room, and the two Jedi held their breath as they waited for the answer.
The Mandalorian pulled Grogu in closer, “He is a foundling. I know his name as my child.”
“Mandalorians,” Obi-Wan and Dooku muttered, Obi-Wan fondly, Dooku with exasperation.
“What?” Anakin asked bewildered.
“The Mandalorian adopted him- hold on a second, I’m going to try something.” Obi-Wan said.
“Mando! Forgive me- Have you already attempted to return your foundling to his people and been denied? If not, we can show you where to find an elder of his kind.”
The Mandalorian stiffened. “I already found one of his people. It took a great deal of time; neither of us knew there were any others left in the galaxy. By the time I met Luke...the child was mine and we would not be parted long. The three of us began traveling together. He acted as mentor to Grogu, though he is too young to be considered the boy’s senior. In time...we decided it would be simpler to raise him as a warrior together. We are one.”
“Oh. How wonderful.” Obi-Wan said weakly.
Anakin’s brow furrowed furiously and he lowered his voice “Master did I get that right? This guy is really good friend’s with one of Yoda’s people but the friend is not the Child’s biological father and they don’t know anyone else from the species?”
“He actually said he was married to one of one of Yoda’s people but other than that your conclusions are correct. Very good Padawan.” Obi-Wan nodded, attempting to wrap his head around the various implications.
Dooku made a triumphant hum, “Then, by simple inductive reasoning, and in the absence of an alternative candidate, we can assume that the Child is, in-fact, Yoda’s offspring.”
“Exactly!” Anakin agreed with Dooku excitedly.
“Interesting that he would give the spawn to a Mandalorian, rather than the creche. Embarrassment, perhaps.” the Count mused.
“Unbelievable.” Anakin agreed indignantly.
“Ok, now hold on. Foundling is pretty literal most of the time-” Obi-Wan interrupted. “Mando- was the child entrusted to you or did was there a rescuing involved?”
“...I was assigned to find him as part of a bounty, but found the imps who I was supposed to give him to...unpleasant.”
“Imps?” Anakin asked.
“There you go!” Obi-Wan said, with just a tinge of hysteria. “Yoda didn’t abandon the child- not that it necessarily is Yoda’s child- he was kidnapped.”
Anakin gasped, “Master! We have to save him!”
“Hold on now, Anakin- He seems perfectly safe at this point and we were here for the Chancellor remember?”
“You won’t be leaving here with the Chancellor or the child.” Dooku sneered. “I can sense the force potential- and I am in want of a new apprentice.”
“Over my dead body,” Anakin snarled.
“That can be arranged.”
“Hey Luke-” the Mandalorian said into the comm as the three swordsman began circling one another “-it looks like two of the Jedi are attacking the other- do you want me to get involved?”
“...Din, by any chance, are any of the laser swords red?”
“Yeah, the fanciest dressed one has a red lightsaber, the other guys are blue. Does it matter?”
“...Red lightsaber means not Jedi. I- hold on, I think I see you!”
The three combatants jumped apart again, looking up at the slight comm echo to the sound of footsteps and the absolutely blinding force presence of the approaching Jedi.
Had he never learned shielding? Obi-Wan thought hysterically. “Or was he just so powerful that he never bothered restraining himself?”
He tried to exchange a glance with Anakin, but his padawan was too focused on straining to see the incoming Master force user of some kind- light, but not necessarily Jedi. He instead looked over at Dooku, shrugging in confusion. Dooku grimaced back at him in solidarity.
The being finally entered. He was- significantly taller and less green than Obi-Wan was expecting, but still probably shorter than anyone else in the room.
“Din- are you two alright?” The soft-faced man asked in a remarkably gently voice, appearance somewhat at odds with the overbearing power he exuded.
“We’re fine, Luke but look! More Jedi!” He gestured below.
Luke peered over the balcony, eyes growing wide as they passed over the faces of everyone below. “hoLY KRIFF!” He shouted.
The ship shuddered and Obi-Wan glanced nervously out the view ports, suddenly remembered that the damaged ship only had so long before it fell out of orbit.
“Do you know them?” Din asked.
“Do I- for fuck’s sake Din, I love you but I have literally shown you holopics of my father before.” Luke whispered furiously. The room unfortunately was utterly quiet and remarkably acoustic, meaning his words carried easily to the listeners below.
“FATHER!” Anakin yelled, causing Luke to wince, slapping a gloved hand to his face.
“FATHER!” He repeated loudly, head ping-ponging between Obi-Wan and Dooku as if trying to find a resemblance, before gasping to stare at the Chancellor, before gasping again to squint at Obi-Wan.
“DOES EVERYONE HAVE A SECRET FAMILY!” He shouted, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
“Oh for force sake- I do not have a secret son. Honestly, Anakin, he’s clearly in his 20s, be reasonable. His birth would however fit into the timeline of Dooku’s withdraw from the order.” Obi-Wan said, raising a brow.
Dooku puffed out his chest, “I did not fail to meet the Code, like so many of the pathetic masses. Before I left the Order I followed the rules precisely. When my disagreements grew too great, and my attempt for structured reform were repeatedly rejected, I left for ethical reasons, not personal ones. I looked at the code and decided it was failing the Jedi.”
He smirked and lifted his chin at the chancellor, who was watching the proceedings with an inscrutable expression, “My, my Chancellor, this is an interesting surprise.”
Anakin rolled his eyes. “We’re not idiots, Dooku. Obviously the boy’s parents were force sensitive, look at him.”
Dooku’s smirk grew wider.
“This is absurd! Again!” Obi-Wan threw up his arms and lifted his head to address the dark-robed young human, “Hello there, Luke, was it?”
“Uh, yes. I’m Luke.” The powerhouse responded nervously.
“My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi-”
“Yes, I know who you are.” Luke responded drily.
Anakin gasped.
“He is not my son.” Obi-Wan muttered.
“I’m not Obi-Wan’s son.” Luke called down cheerfully.
“Oh.” Anakin slouched, oddly disappointed. He liked this guy for some reason, felt- connected to him. Maybe it was the dark robes, or the force signature that nearly rivaled his own (though it was somewhat lighter), or even the gloved hand that he suspected was mechanical. If he was Obi-Wan’s son than that would make him practically his brother! The Chancellor might be neat but Dooku...ugh.
“Would you be so kind as to tell us whose son you are? I realize its none of my business but you’ve peaked our curiosity. And then afterwards, regardless of your parentage, we would not mind help in rescuing the Chancellor of the Republic from this slowly crashing ship.”
“Right. Right.” Luke nodded. “Would you give me a second?”
He pressed his head to the side of Din’s helmet and started whispering rapidly, to quiet for anyone else to hear.
The group below exchanged glances, beginning to tense up again. After a few seconds, the Mandalorian nodded and spoke, “Let’s do it. I trust your judgement.” Luke grinned and returned to the edge of the balcony.
“Ok, I can help with the first, but not the second.”
“Perfectly understandable.” Obi-Wan replied.
Anakin bristled. “So Dooku is your father.”
Luke smiled at Anakin. “No. You are my father.”
Anakin blinked as Obi-Wan’s face twisted in confusion. “No...” he said slowly. “No, that’s not true. That’s impossible.”
Luke’s smile grew wider, “Search your feelings,” he said urgently, with the full weight of his force presence screaming honesty with every word, “You know it to be true.”
Anakin gasped as he reached out into the force to find...his son. Impossible, but true. The ground trembled, either with the immensity of the realization, or catastrophic engine failure.
“No.” Obi-Wan said clearly to Luke on the balcony.
“No.” He repeated firmly, snapping a finger in Anakin’s face to try and break him out of the trance he seemed to be in. “It’s not true.” He said to the room in general, incredulous it even needed to be said.
Dooku began slowly backing away. The confrontation was rapidly spinning out of his or his Master’s control; he had only stayed this long to indulge vain curiosity. Regardless if the boy was insane, lying, or a time-traveler, he was clearly powerful. The ship’s orbit was gradually decaying and with any luck he could use his dead man’s switch to speed up the crash as he departed, neatly killing everyone who could stand against him in one stroke.
“Anakin,” the lunatic on the balcony continued, “You can destroy the emperor. He has forseen this. It is your destiny! Join me, and together-”
Din cleared his throat.
Luke stopped and smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. “Sorry! Sorry. Got a little...carried away there.” He coughed awkwardly into his fist.
“Anyway- yeah. I’m Luke Skywalker. I’m from the future, I guess we... time-traveled accidentally somehow? I uh- was kind-of quoting something you said to me once and you kept going along with it and... yeah, definitely got carried away. Sorry, I really don’t know how we got here but, weird stuff happens around me- one time I was on Yavin IV and these ghosts started- anyway. Long story. Surprise!”
Obi-Wan took a deep breath in and let it out slowly, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Ok...I might believe you’re Anakin’s son.”
Dooku had nearly reached a side door when his treacherous Master called out- “Anakin! Master Kenobi! Dooku- he’s getting away.”
Skywalker’s- Anakin Skywalker’s- attention snapped over to the Count and with a outstretched arm, he crumpled the steel door, throwing a beam across it for good measure. The ship moaned alarmingly and several more red lights began blinking at the navigation panel, unnoticed by anyone.
“Luke- son- I don’t know what Emperor you’re talking about, but help us defeat Count Dooku and save Chancellor Palpatine! After that- after that I’m happy to, um, join you? And meet your... husband? And padawan? Sorry, we were kind-of in the middle of something...”
“Wow. Ok. I’m not sure if-” Luke started to respond before being interrupted by the Mandalorian.
“Wait, Dooku! I know that name!” Din said suddenly. “The covert hated him! He was the evil Sif Emperor you defeated, right?”
“...Sith Emperor. Din, darling and light of my life, as always, your grasp of history and recent current events never fails to amaze me.” Luke sighed.
“You must stop him, before he becomes Emperor,” Palpatine shouted desperately.
Luke sighed again, more heavily. “Fine. FINE! Kriff the timeline, I didn’t ask to be born anyway. Din- go help capture...Emperor Dooku. Grogu- Pod. I’ll go- free the Chancellor.” The floor beneath them gave a lurch. “Before this ship breaks apart. Go!”
Luke and Din jumped off the balcony as a shiny metal pod with a transparisteel view screen closed around Grogu, hovering between them, well off easy reach of the ground.
Din landed between Obi-Wan and Anakin, helmet turning to face each of them in turn, “...I’ll follow your lead.” He finally said, arming his weapons.
Obi-Wan grinned fiercely, “Excellent, Anakin, stay with me.”
“I was just about to say the same thing.”
“Mando, you- Is that the DARKSABER- ARE Yoouu- ugh you know what, I will ask after the fight. I will ask after the fight. How did the Mand'alor- NEVERMIND. Let’s just- FORCE I have so many questions-”
“No time, Master!”
And the battle began.
