Do you have any favorite sk8 fics?

Oooookay! I have a BUNCH of SK8 fics I really love, so I'm just gonna pick just 5 from my bookmarks, because otherwise I will literally give you a list 40+ fics long.

I'll have you know that in going through my bookmarks for this list, I was kicking my feet and giggling going "Oh THIS one was good, and oh THIS one was good. Whoever curated this list has excellent taste."

After Your Heart Stops Rushing is a fic that takes place immediately post episode 12, with Reki and Langa decompressing after the funeral beef, talking about ~feelings~ and stuff (Reki feels insecure about Langa still wanting him after the adrenaline wears off). It's very tender and features confessions and the like.

just read my lips (they’re pretty loose) is a fic that takes place a little in the future. Langa and Miya are professional skaters and they're back from Tokyo for a visit. The basic story is that Reki has a praise kink and won't tell Langa, so in trying to figure it out, he asks every single member of the main cast. Most of them figure it out before him. Poor Reki, the secret's out. This fic is just full of details that scream love for every character and the whole show, and it's the first SK8 fic I ever fell in love with.

Honorifics is a fic about Langa hearing Reki call him Langa-kun to his sisters and deciding he wants to hear him say that all the time. Featuring adorably flustered Reki who can't take Langa's direct form of communication. (This one is actually locked behind needing an account, if you don't have an account, DM me and I'll send you a PDF.)

the most wonderful night of the year is an amazing fic about Reki thinking that Langa asked him out for Christmas Eve when Langa really just meant it like asking him over for dinner with his family. Cultural differences. Oops. Confessions and just a dash of homophobia to make it hurt and you've got yourself genuinely one of my favorite fics of all time.

How to Get Away With Topping is a really funny fic about Langa being a pillow princess and Reki thinking himself into knots trying to get Langa to be more dominant even though they're both happy with the way things are. (He's convinced himself that Langa must want to top. He doesn't.) I really like the details in this fic like Reki knowing that everyone must assume Langa tops just based off of how they look and act, and just a smidge of sexism and homophobia feels very realistic (I don't even know if those parts where on purpose but the point stands).

You Belong With Me by crinklefries on AO3 is one of the best fics i’ve read lately

it’s pretty hefty at 56k words, but i swear it was so freaking worth it. There were moments where i was full on bawling my eyes out and i loved it so much

It’s got mutual pining. It’s got childhood friends to lovers. It’s got fake dating. It’s got angst. THEY WERE FREAKING ROOMMATES—

I finally have some more time to read fic and I want to make this a regular thing: reccing five fics every Friday, both fics I've read during the week but also older works that I love. So without further ado, here are some newer and older faves:

1. In Repair (Dorian Pavus/Trevelyan, DA, T) by breadbowl: Inky & co are exploring some ruins when Dorian is attacked by Venatori. What follows next is a spoiler lol so I won't say anything else, but this fic was so angsty but also funny in places, with lots of action and banter. It was like extra content from the game which is my favorite kind of DA fic.

2. Librarian To The Future (Dorian Pavus/Trevelyan, DA, T) by norwasmeanttobe: The Inquisition needs a book of magic which has been destroyed, so Dorian time travels to the Ostwick Circle of eight years before to find its last copy. There he meets a young Inquisitor Trevelyan, who was the Circle librarian at the time. A truly delightful fic, plus the author's Trevelyan is such a sweetie. Loved this.

3. Chintz (Achilles/Patroclus, Hades/TSOA, M) by @baejax-the-great: Achilles is trapped in a miserable marriage, and in order to escape it -and himself- he starts drinking heavily while also sleeping with his best friend (and long time crush, but no one's talking about that lmao). The pain!!! The misery!!! All the suppressed emotions!!! It hurts so good 😭 My heart broke for both of them and now I am ANXIOUSLY waiting for a reunion that will mend it (i.e. poking Bae with a stick while she writes 👀) 

4. as we circle the moon (Keith/Shiro, VLD, E) by @monstersinthecosmos: follows the events in the show after Shiro disappears post s2, and is then found-- but fem!Sheith 🥺 Kacy's written some of my all time fave sheith angst, and this is no exception: an in depth exploration of Keith's state of mind after losing Shiro and Shiro's own struggles towards recovery, just so soft and sad and poignant and true to character. I love these gorls <3

5. Calamitous Love (Tadashi/Ainosuke, Sk8 the Infinity, E) by @starryskeyes: I read this one a while back, but boy howdy has it left its mark on me. I am a slut and a weakling for childhood friends to lovers to exes back to lovers (no one knows them like they know each other!!!!! ;w;) and this hit the spot JUST RIGHT, Chel's prose and characterisations are divine and made me feel so many emotions. I just want to wrap Tadashi in blankets and keep him safe. 😭

Fic Recs: Sk8 the Infinity

i love this anime with my heart and soul. it was one of the first sports animes i’ve watched, and it definitely made me want to watch more like it. here are some of my personal favourite fics!

Most teenagers would do anything to find their soulmate, the one whose signature is on their body. Reki just wants to skate. Maybe it’s a blessing that his soulmate’s signature is illegible.

soulmate fic that deals with the hilarious possibility that reki can’t find his soulmate due to langa’s dogshit handwriting. very sweet but very funny too!

more hearts than just mine. by brokencomatose

watching langa with his sisters is enough to make reki emotional, no matter how often he sees it. it's getting kind of ridiculous. (or: the study of langa's relationship with the kyan twins through the eyes of the boy who loves them all)

my heart. yes there is renga but langa and the kyan twins was something i didn’t know i needed. very cute!

I’ve Got A Piece of Your Heart (But I Want the Whole Damn Thing) by Jenanigans1207

“Sure?” Langa doesn’t like the way Reki is looking at him without meeting his gaze. “Of course I’ll help you, Reki. What’s up?” It takes a long second for Reki to answer. When he finally does, Langa feels the world slow to a stop around them. “Well, the thing is... my soulmate is always writing on their arm. But they’re always writing in English, so I don’t know what it says. I was hoping you might translate it for me?” -- Reki asks Langa to translate the English writing of his soulmate and is left to wonder why, exactly, Langa turns so incredibly red as he does exactly that. (The soulmate au nobody asked me for)

very good slow burn fic with alternating povs! lots of very sweet moments but an equivalent amount of angst (due to of miscommunication, of course). loved it!

"Reki?" Langa says worriedly, sitting up next to him, his own promise ring hanging around his neck, the moonlight rays streaming through the window hitting the red diamond and making it shine. Langa takes him in his arms. "Are you ok? Did you have a nightmare?" Reki shakes his head. "No." Is all he can say, because how the hell is he supposed to tell his boyfriend he had a dream where he had a whole conversation with his dead father? It would sound so weird and he's not entirely sure how Langa would react to it. He doesn't want to upset him. - Or: Reki meets Oliver Hasegawa in a dream.

very beautifully written fic about reki and oliver meeting and talking about life. the impact of this meeting on both langa and reki is also portrayed really well too

eyes like stars, heart like the sun by crystalcrow

And when Reki gets a glimpse of Langa’s face, he can see the smile, the happiness in both the shine that fills Langa’s eyes and the grin on his lips. It’s mesmerizing. It’s nothing short of incredible. It feels like home, a little. (or, episode 12 but with more homosexuality and actual consequences for ADAM)

an amazing rewrite of episode twelve! lots of good introspection on reki’s behalf (who is characterised very well) and the events of the fic flow seamlessly with the canon events that are kept in

Langa’s chest screams it, screams that something is wrong and he is in danger, that none of this is okay, but that can’t possibly be true. Everything Adam does, he does in front of a crowd. Six, ten, sixty people, all devouring the sight with hungry eyes. Dozens of faces in the crowd, and not one person says a thing. If it were so bad, someone would speak up, right? Right? Adam's behavior has more of an impact on Langa than anyone realizes. (additional content warnings in notes)

warning: this fic deals with very heavy themes (sa, victim blaming, etc.), so make sure to stay safe when reading. that being said, the writing in this is fantastic with so many amazing metaphors, and it was cathartic in a way. the fic also brings up issues with s and how langa has dealt with it, and it truly is a wonderful read

“I think I understand what’s going on.” Well. . . hopefully not, but Reki figured that would save him a lot of time explaining. And if she did know, then she didn’t seem as upset as he had anticipated, which was definitely a plus. She continued. “I know you’ve been going out every night on dates—” Dates? “—with Langa—” With Langa? …. Or, Reki’s mother makes an assumption about her son’s relationship status that she probably shouldn’t and everything spirals.

it’s all about the miscommunication and shying away from the truth. reki and langa are characterised perfectly, especially with reki using the fake dating to hide an illegal activity. really cute and funny!

The trouble with being in love with your best friend was, there was nowhere for that excess of feeling to go. Kojiro had no interest in risking everything they’d built together over the years, and it’s not like he could talk to anyone about his feelings. The whole situation was unspeakably humiliating.

The feeling was just too big to contain, so maybe it spilled out occasionally. Maybe, just maybe, Kojiro had been drafting a confession letter since their first year of high school. It wasn’t like he was ever going to send it. It was just something to occupy his time, a place to express the fondness that overpowered him when Kaoru sent a rare smile his way and he felt like his heart might actually, physically melt in his chest.
