Hi im emi and i think way too much about sk8 the infinity part 261
COLOUR THEORY TIME i just had like, a brain blast in realisation.
Reki is yellow coded, langa is blue. Usually people would ASSUME reki is the "red" character of the show because of his hair, but i think that just helps to show off his passionate and firey personality. His colour is yellow because he is energetic, friendly and most often optimistic (especially when it comes to helping people learn how to skate or make friends)
Langa is blue coded, usually used for quiet, cold and mysterious characters, or those with lots of sadness (think inside out). BUT because he is pastel blue, his sadness is lighter because of people like reki lifting him out if it. He is still young and has time to grow.
Because they are yellow and blue coded, its different from what is the usual trope of red and blue which are most often rivals or opposites. BUT because theyre yellow and blue, theyre actually perfectly made to compliment each other. I like to see it as reki being the sun to langas moon.
Now. You know who IS red coded? Adam. He is passionate and all about love and anger, the two emotions most connected to red. Because he is red, it links into his whole idea of thinking he "belongs" with langa, but he is already fulfilled by being with reki.
Then we see adams colours slowly change from red to that dark blue we see him wearing in the finale. He comes to realise that he was chasing after langa because he thought they were the same (blue = sad and hurt. Adam being a deeper blue means his emotions and sadness runs deeper aka because he has had YEARS longer to sit with his feelings and trauma) but it takes langa, a fellow blue, being happy and excited and wanting to skate with REKI not him, to show him that he doesnt have to put on this red boisterous persona. If we look at Adam through the years, he's never really had a red-coded personality. It's always an act. How he thinks people wANT him to act.
He's a blue, just like his hair and the suit he wears.
Now. Joe and cherry.
Cherry being pink is so INTERESTING TO ME. Its seen as graceful and youthful, but is also just a toned down version of red. Cherry CAN be graceful and composed, but is also full of so much anger and emotion (especially towards adam) and the fact the two are similar in colour makes me so invested. I also think Cherry has a complex colour pallet- being not only pink, but also wearing deep blues and whites. He is elegant and complex.
THEN JOE. oh joe. My deep green giant. He is down to earth (haha get it) and is always trusting his gut with everything, AND IDK IF YOU HAVE NOTICED THIS BUT HE NEVER GIVES BAD ADVICE!! Green is usually associated with grounded and level-headed characters, but green is also the colour of jealousy. Joe doesn't seem like the jealous type, but he has this strange loneliness to him. All he has is his restaurant and Cherry. He never seems to be able to fully grasp what he wants, so finds his fufillment in other places.
Now onto the fact that pink and green ARE opposites and so are cherry and joe. Where cherry is quiet and reserved, joe is loud and energetic. Their lifestyles and jobs couldn't really be more different. They argue and bicker and always seem to know what perfectly annoys the other most.
BUT!! Pink and green (while being opposites) ARE ALSO COMPLIMENTARY!!!! they work well together beCAUSE theyre so different. And being together just seems to work out somehow.
ANYWAYS. Yeah. Sun and moon coded renga are very special to me :)

I just realized that Langa gave Reki a "love hug" in the finale.
It's like Reki got the toxic love hug from Ad*m in the beginning, and then got the true love hug from Langa in the end... I'm a genius...

I love that ep 1 scene with the boys and Kaoru too! I agree that Kaoru was studying them like the nerd he is, but I also think he may have saw a bit of himself in Langa at that moment cause of what happened when he first met Adam.
Like he saw Langa's awed face and was thinking, "Yeah, I know that look, doesn't lead to anything but heartbreak."
That frame is one of my favourite shots. It belongs right in a “Sk8 No Context” video. In fact, that’s probably why it was included.
I see it as caution, and instead of seeing himself in Langa, he sees Adam*. There’s the “Blue Theory” that I’m yet to write out I full, only backed up by that after-credits scene with Kaoru/Kojiro in episode nine. And while what Kojiro and Kaoru say about the matter contradicts what I just said, perhaps Kaoru’s stance on Kojiro “overestimating Langa” wasn’t that to begin with.
*I can quite unfortunately see a whump fic somewhere about Reki breaking up with Langa, or something, and pushing him into becoming the “next Adam”, either alongside Adam himself or against Adam’s desires (now that he’s all “reformed” or whatever… spoiler alert: he really isn’t), though given the circumstances of such a fic being created I can imagine it’s alongside Adam. (Eve goes a bit crazy, for real.) It’s shipping. I don’t want to find out if such a fic exists unless the ship, if included at all, is depicted negatively and as a “grave mistake”, or something. So, I’m not looking.
I see it, with episode nine in correlation. Kaoru is studying Langa, and Reki, and seeing himself, Kojiro and Adam from when they were kids (with a few differences, of course). Reki in this situation is Kojiro and Kaoru, and Langa is Adam. Makes sense, right?
Well, there’s a few shifts that I think Kaoru has studied (as the “smart one” of the group, I’m sure) Langa and Reki as to assure his suspicions of the similarities, or a lack thereof.
In fact, when I’d first seen this ask a few days ago, I’d gotten the idea to make a Venn diagram of all the similarities I could remember without rewatching the show:
Tumblr media
Incidentally, Langa’s exclusive qualities are also connected to Adam — but he’s not included here, for obvious reasons.
The immediate parallels in terms of “Renga vs. Matchablossom” would be Reki/Joe and Langa/Cherry. Though, outside of ship dynamics (I’d so badly wanted to put “bisexual” and “gay” in the diagram, but withheld my compulsions — though, I did allow myself the “Lovestruck Stare”, as that’s canon compliant enough, with Kojiro giving several to Cherry and Langa to Reki, breaking the “obvious parallels” immediately, giving Langa and Joe more leverage as counterparts over Langa and Cherry) the parallels, as I’d just mentioned in parentheses, are more complex.
TL;DR: I really need to write my Blue Theory out in full, but here is the “character parallels” in the main cast (which doesn’t play into the Adam/Langa parallels as much as the Blue Theory does, with some Cherry on the side, and maybe some Tadashi/Reki parallels to compare with how they nurtured their own foils with Adam/Langa respectively).
The parallels aren’t as straight forward, but I think the main takeaway is just:

Barely realized about the small Arven photos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I had a small theory. Okay so before real Turo really got blasted off into bits and chunks of human meat, he really wanted to know everything about Pokémon and stuff. You can see in the whiteboard photo that he has a picture of Maschiff then arrows pointing at other shit with calculations. But it makes me wonder, as I look at the other drawing further. Did Turo test this theory with Maschiff? Of course he has little Arven up on the wall (I assume it’s the photo from the old lab in the lighthouse as that frame has no photo) with his beloved pup, but did AI Turo really tell the truth? Did Arven’s Father really love him that much, but still worked in the machine as AI said?
I feel like Turo did something with Maschiff but then somehow evolved it down.. as Mabostiff was injured when evolved, not from his pup stage as Arven probably would’ve mentioned something or let it slip. Because Arven did say Mabostiff got injured when down at Zero. So I’m wondering if Turo tested Maschiff but didn’t actually send it to the future because he knew how much it would break Arven. He’s not that stupid. Stupid enough to invent that machine, however? Yes.
He clearly prioritized the machine over Arven, as even Arven states he never once had his father play with him or act like a real dad for once. I’m saying this because Turo must’ve died more recently but not too recent, because Arven was really little back then and I don’t know if he could’ve taken care of himself. Clavell isn’t even mentioned and he was part of Turo’s research, surely he would’ve gone to the lighthouse had Arven been mentioned? Or if Turo suddenly went missing?
Small note: I played Violet I am sorry for Scarlett players I got too immersed with gigachad Professor. Not so chad in dying, leaving his son behind.
Once again, I can’t solely pin a blame on Turo, but he knew the risks. That’s what happens when you play around with something never experimented with before, you need to know what your getting yourself into.
Poor Arven. I’ll go make you suffer more in an ao3 angst like the hypocritical non-binary hoe I am (hahaha sk8 reference go brrrr)

Tadashi is a villain: part 1/?
I should read into Tadashi more, since he is a large part of the reason why Adam is like this. So here goes my first Tadashi fan theory.
Instead of projecting his trauma onto people, like how Adam does, Tadashi is the kind of villain that believes he's doing right. Like he knows what’s best for everyone thus he’s taking steps to make it happen no matter the cost. So, Tadashi is an oblivious villain.
When Tadashi taught Ainosuke how to skate, he had not yet been traumatized by the Shindo family learned that this kind of relationship is forbidden. He had not known that a master shouldn’t be friends to their servants. So, when Tadashi learned this information, he tried to make it up.
Time passes and he is now Aiichiro Shindo’s servant.  He sees this as the chance to make this right. Tadashi knows he could no longer support Ainosuke, but he couldn’t disobey his master either. He figured an alternative is to stay neutral, thinking no side would be hurt. Tadashi didn’t realize that Ainosuke needed a friend to comfort him that day, not a servant doing their job. This is when Ainosuke felt this wave of betrayal, thus seeing Tadashi as a villain.
When Tadashi stated he had no opinion, he believed that it was genuinely the right thing to do. And when he kept pressuring Adam to quit skateboarding, he believed that it was good for his lover boss's future. He believes that he’s doing his job right and no one is hurt.
He doesn't take into account of other people's feelings, but rather pressures what is expected in society. Because that’s what he had to deal with all throughout his life. This is evident in the hotel scene. Tadashi doesn’t realize that what his actions, beliefs, and morals are wrong because they’ve only been reinforced by those in power (the Shindo elders). The only one who successfully challenges that is Reki. Reki is the reason why Tadashi could see his morals were misplaced and wrong.
Tadashi indeed has internalized trauma, as this is a result of being in the Shindo family. However, he doesn’t project onto others, rather he used his trauma as a moral guide to not hurt others and “save” Ainosuke. And it isn’t until Reki intervention that Tadashi realize his morals are fucked up.

Can I just rant now about how Langa and Reki could turn into/parallel Adam and Tadashi, now?

I just had a realisation.
Idk if this is known to everyone else in the Sk8 fandom, I might just be slow on the uptake buuuuuuut:
- ADAM is ADAM, yeah duh, everyone is aware of that lol
- ADAM is looking for his “EVE” again, nothing new it’s the whole story of creation, Adam and Eve thing, right? Everyone knows that.
- The SNAKE in the story of creation turns Adam against Eve. Yeah that sucks but, what does this have to do with Sk8?
- Tadashi’s registered name in the tournament is SNAKE. Tadashi wants Adam’s attention off Eve and onto him.
The dog just wants his Ainosuke back 😭

Did you guys noticed that, when snake first showed up no one knew who was it and everyone shocked including Joe and Adam. What about Cherry? He never questioned who is that or smth, he just asked Carla for snake's time.
So I say here, Cherry knew it was Tadashi. It cant be impossible right? Kaoru and Tadashi may know each other and talks secretly sometimes. I love this theory.
