I was digging through old files and saw this was never published!
Even though is a couple years old, I'm really like how this piece came out. (He's still my fave angry bird)

SkekUng: I don’t like your accusatory tone.
SkekSil: Mmmm. Well, Chamberlain would use different tone, but Chamberlain's trying to accuse Garthim Master of something.

SkekZok: *leaves SkekSo’s room with a solemn expression*
SkekSil: Ah, Ritual Master, how is Emperor, hmmm?
SkekZok: His health is perfect and he shall live
All Skeksis: *sigh of relief*
SkekZok: I, too, would be relieved, if it didn’t happen to be…Opposite Day! *dun-dun-duuuuun sound effect plays as he gives a stern expression*
SkekUng: Wait, wait! Hold up! So, is the Emperor going to die?
SkekZok: No! *dramatic expression and sound effect again*
All Skeksis: *gasp*
SkekEz: Is this Opposite Day or Dramatic Music Sting Day!?
SkekZok: Neither! *repeat of before*
SkekEkt, SkekSil and SkekEz: *all swoon and faint dramatically*

So ok. First I need to clarify that I had a lot of struggle to choose which Skeksis would work with what prompt (especially since SkekSyn is a clone of Skekso after he died, so there would be only 9 Skeksis left) So I just shoved the death of Skekso further back in the past. At least I have the opportunity to let him interact with other Skeksis that are dead in the movie.
Since the Monarch has the birthright to be the leader, SkekUng wasn't really happy with that. There might be an opportunity to work together, once SkekZok gives the approval of that. But no matter what. The Monarch is always above the others, even tho he is still a tiny childling.

A Question Of Titles
So @iacobusknight asked me something that got me thinking. While there's no canon answer to this question, I wanted to ask the fandom at large.
What do you think skekUng's title was before they became the Garthim Master?
Obviously they can't have always had that title, since Garthim haven't already existed. So what could it have been? Personally, I think it was still something military related. Such as Lieutenant, or something like that. Since they'd eventually take skekVar's position and all.
Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Hi! Same person who asked about preceding material — I guess I’ll begin with the Skeksis. What roles did skekVar, skekLach, skekCru, and skekEr serve in the prequel manga’s story 🤔 and now different and or consistent would you say skekVar and skekLach are in their varying iterations.
SkekVar
SkekVar has been pretty consistent throughout the franchise. I'd say his manga counterpart is pretty close to his AOR one. He is the general of the Skeksis army which is interesting because in this continuity he's alive along with skekUng. He is one of skekSo's closest subjects and skekVar shows similar loyalty like he does in the show, but it's hinted at it might not be all sincere (which is not saying much for the Skeksis).
In Creation Myths, his title is actually the Ambassador. He exploited the Gelfling by providing them aid in exchange for their servitude which became the Crystal Alliance. That isn't to say he didn't have war-mongering tendencies as later he would command the Skeksis army to attack a group of creatures called the Makraks but was later stopped by the urRu.
SkekVar had two additional, minor appearances before his debut in Age of Resistance. He was mentioned in the Gelfling Gathering with information consistent with his other appearances except for the explicit mention he was the most honest of the Skeksis. He also had a cameo in Flames of the Dark Crystal during the book's version of the Battle of Stone-in-the-Wood but he doesn't do much compared to the events in the show.
SkekLach
SkekLach, on the other hand, is vastly different depending on the material they come from. They've mostly played minor roles, but their very first appearance they were a main villain. They are also referred with different pronouns depending on the material which is why I have used he/him for this section (as AOR!skekLach uses she/her).
As stated before, skekLach was the main villain for the manga continuity. He was a smart, masterful tactician who could easily control and sway both enemies and comrades alike. He was a favorite of skekSo which made skekVar and skekSil jealous, a fact that skekLach knew and exploited. He ends up embarrassing both Skeksis and despite his own setbacks remained in favor of the Emperor. He was also very heavily involved in the Garthim Wars, aiding skekUng in plans to capture Gelfling. Not to mention, skekLach's collection extended outside of materialistic things. He also collected trophies, animals, and concepts (he mentioned "collecting" revenge against the Gelfling when they foiled his plans).
His next appearance was in the J.M. Lee book series, but his role was reduced to a side character. In this continuity, he is known as the Census Taker and was responsible for keeping track of the Gelfling across the clans. This list eventually became inventory when the Skeksis started draining them. SkekLach in this version didn't do a lot, but he accompanies skekOk to Sami Thicket to take census (similar to how they both went to Ha'rar to collect tithes).
The Others
So something to note about skekCru and skekEer is that their names weren't stated in the manga but rather by its illustrator. SkekCru was the Mariner and skekEer was the Spy Master. SkekCru's title would be kept when her name was changed to skekSa, but skekEer was ultimately scrapped. However, their title was reused at least during development for Age of Resistance. It's theorized that it was skekUng's title before he became the Garthim Master, but this is pure speculation.

Fantasy Month :Reading Marvel Comics Super Special Dark Chrystal
Tumblr media
So you shall see my acutal thoughts as I read through it
Lets start wit what my opinion on the movie is:Its a movie I really admire ,especially aesthetically......Buuuuuut it is flawed and the problem is the story is just not compelling to me and JEn and Kira are just OK leads. However what it has going for it iaa fascinatng world ,marvelous technical achievements , Augrha is a fun character and the Skeksis are probabbly th fantasy villains who have stalkejed the nightmares of more kids then any other.I also really love the Chamberlain in general,he is actually my favorite fantasy villain ever, but more for his appearences in Dark Chrystal Age of Resistance .Also I like the prequel show better then the original film (Shame on you netflix)
1.OK the art is gorgeous .Brian Frouds designs translate well to comics
Tumblr media
2."Jen is daydreaming....Again"Narrator is sick of your shit Jen
3.Jen looks weirdly pissed off in this panel and this mystic is ominous looking
Tumblr media
4.So I admire puppetry as an art form ,especially in the Dark Chrystal ,but one advantage the comic has ,is Jen can actually cry and mourn his masters death
Tumblr media
5."You must go with questions not answers" Way to be a cryptic asshole mystic dude
6.Lot of emphasis on Skekung the Garthim Master here....I mean he is TECHNICALLY The main villain ,but in my mind he is always overshadowed by Skekzok The Ritual Master and Skeksil the Chamberlain .Do appreciate comic acknowe;edges that in the film at least the Garthim Master, the Ritual Master and the Chamberlain are really the only Skeksis worth caring about
7,Emperors death is kind of toned down from how scary it is in the movie
8.Oh good nightmare fuel
Tumblr media
9.OH GOD THIS IS MORE NIGHTMARISH
Tumblr media
10.Oh the Podlings speak English here
11.God the artwork of Chamberlain is so creepy in the best way
Tumblr media Tumblr media
12.So in the movie this mystic just disappeared in light.....Here in the comic
Tumblr media
13.OOOOOOHHHHH Augrah sees Kiras death in this version
14.Like that the Garthim Master and Chamberlin try to find Jen in this version
So finished the whole comic .Its a pretty close adaptation ,not many changes ,Its about equal to the movie .Also it made me realize part of Skeksil and Skekzok's appeal to me in the movie is the wonderful vocal performances of Barry Dennen and Jerry Nelson
Overall if you like the movie its worth a read

SkekUng the master of Garthim, that was ther formerly General before he gets replace by SkekVar the new General, react that SkekZok killed Kira because he Remember that SkekVar killed All-Maudra Mayrin the grandmother of Kira and so when he Is transformed into a Urskeks, he help Jen to heal Kira because he recognize Jen like Rian and Deet's son
And so Stephen Garlick and Michael Kilgarriff played Doctor Who but in different episodes and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the voice of Seladon, too play in Doctor Who but in a episode

I miss these two so much. Toxic old man birds have a special place in my heart. These are fairly old sketches I've done earlier this year and wanted to share them before the year ends!

Further Lore About SkekEz The Poet
He wears a monocle framed in gold and won’t go anywhere without it. Rumor has it that he is slowly becoming blind in one eye.
SkekTek once bombarded him with a syringe claiming he needed “medicine”. Now he goes out of his way to declare how ‘non-sick’ he is whenever the scientist shows up.
He’s quite the glutton. While other Skeksis are having second helpings, he’s having his fifth.
SkekEz loves messing with SkekEkt the Ornamentalist, purposely freaking him out with eerie ghost stories. Once SkekEkt got so spooked he shrieked at the sight of his own reflection. SkekEz conveniently published a poem about an evil spirit dwelling in a mirror the following day.
SkekUng despises SkekEz, often comparing him to SkekSil. The chamberlain is somehow both flattered and offended by this.
SkekEz often does incredibly strange and stupid things to achieve “inspiration” for his writing. Once such incident involved him going AWOL for several days. Nobody in the castle could find him and the Skeksis all began freaking out, with some worrying that he had kicked the bucket. Eventually, however, they found him hiding in a secret passage behind the pantry, hungry and slightly delirious. He wanted “to capture the spirit of what it means to be a lone Arathim”.
