Hiya! I really adore your blog and I don't think(?) you've been asked this, but sorry if you have addressed it! I've been watching documentaries/researching things and I'm curious if you have any thoughts/opinions about NWT/Agna Qel'a and its sustainability? Esp during the 100 year war when they're isolated, is it feasible to feed the whole city without imports? What sort of agriculture could work in an arctic climate?
So funny thing about cities:
For a civilization to build a city, the first thing they need is a surplus of food. This is what allows people to fulfil the city requirements (things like job specialization, which leads to some specializing in planning or building infrastructure, or a big population which allows for plenty of people to fill all these little niches in these specialized jobs). There's a little cultural problem here and I'm not sure how well it's been established or explained, or even if it's been acknowledged at all.
The Inuit, Inupiat, Yup'ik, and even some of the other groups, Native or otherwise, that have inspired the aesthetic of the Water Tribes 1) tended to be more nomadic than sedentary (so setting roots in a city in the first place makes little sense) and 2) don't believe in taking the amount of food from nature that would be needed for such a surplus. Speaking as an Inupiaq, it's seen as disgustingly greedy. If you have more food than you need, you don't hoard it, you give it to people who need it without expecting anything in return. You never take with the intention of getting more than you need so you can sell the extra. If you still have more to spare, you save it for a day where you might otherwise starve, not for some guy who says a canal system will improve things and wants to work on that instead of getting his own food.
So it's really strange to me when people treat the Northern Water Tribe like it's this sort of untouched safe place where they still follow the culture that's been forgotten in the Southern Tribe. They have what are essentially roads, they have grand architecture, they have a class system, and the concept of a princess. None of these are accurate to the people indigenous to the tundra. If you're anywhere near as much of a stickler for this cultural aspect of the Water Tribe and the irl cutures it's supposed to be based on (and I can't say I recommend it because it does make being mad about the franchise much easier), then the only explanation is that they're way more culturally influenced by the other nations, namely the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom, than the Southern Water Tribe is.
As for agriculture, in the same way that snooty vegans are technically correct when the say "you don't need meat" you technically don't need that many vegetables. Rather than the meat we tend to think of when we go to the butcher or meat and seafood counter at the store, where it's only certain cuts of flesh from animals specifically bred for centuries to produce this kind of meat or that, the Inupiaq diet specifically incorporated as many parts of the animals that adapted to the needs of surviving the arctic as possible. It's not possible to live on a diet of 90% steak and get all the nutrients you need, but when it includes fish eyes and whale skin, the tongue, the heart, the liver, fats of all kinds, and supplement the rest of your needs with things like fireweed, sourdock, wild celery, and berries, it will sustain you and get you through the winter.
Below, I've attached a video showing what subsitance hunting and gathering looks like in northwest Alaska. It's thoroughly informative but be warned that it does include footage of irl hunting and butchering. You will see guns and knives and dead animals in this video.
youtube
I suppose you could grow things like eskimo potato/masru or berry bushes the way people would grow, say, tomatoes or beans. You could apply selective breeding to get nutient rich crops and build greenhouses out of sheets of clear ice, double walled with folks keeping the moisture in the dirt from freezing so it stays warm enough for things to grow for as long as the sun stays in the sky. They have an oasis full of magic spirit water so maybe there's something sacred that could be keeping crops alive.
The question is, how do you take the land required to do that from social herbivores? Are you going to treat them like pests to be exterminated when you need their meat and skins to survive? That land is their home as much as it's yours.
I think personal gardens or even just bushes and such kept in pots in or around the home would be much likelier than full scale intensive farms. Grouse or ptarmigans or similar fowl (Sokka does mention "arctic hen") could be kept domestically for their eggs or occasionally meat the way chickens might be kept in the other nations. Grains and flour may be traded with stealthy Earth Kingdom merchants in exchange for pelts or ivory or even ice blocks for food storage.
And on the other hand, it could just be a densely populated village made fancy with enough signs of civilization for outsiders to respect while everyone is still otherwise living a hunter gatherer lifestyle to feed their families. There isn't really a "wrong" answer in any sense until canon gets its shit together (and maybe actually hires an eskimo writer so it makes sense) and gives an actual explanation.

Dear Aomi Bakugou Katsuki x Reader
Tumblr media
"I've seen you in a dream before, you are the warm and bright presence that embraced me on Cape Kamui a long time ago on a June afternoon."
Shinohara (Y/N) is a normal girl who had everything she could ask for, a loving family, a beautiful home, friends, and a fluffy cat. For a long time, she gave her life and happiness for granted, never imagining that she'll face one of the worst and crueler facades of society so closely, destroying what once was a happy, harmonious and normal family. One day, in hopes to recover what they lost, the Shinohara family took one of the more difficult decisions of their lives; leave behind their home back in Hokkaido and travel hundreds of miles south until Musutafu, the place that could grant them a solution and help close the yet fresh wound and scare away the ghosts of the past. Hardheaded, passionate, and ambitious (Y/N) is forced to confront the incarnated face of the superhuman society that she hated the most; Bakugou Katsuki.

4: Welcome to The Neighborhood
The salty breeze caressed (Y/N) face in a wavy motion mixing with the relaxing sound of waves crashing down the coastline. Along with her steady and calm breathing, those were the only things she could perceive in the endless darkness flooding her eyes.
‘A dream?’
Suddenly, her eyelids started to flutter little by little showing her a pretty familiar scenery. A long and meandering trail lay was in front of her, surrounded by the expanse of an endless blue sea. An old wood railing was the only thing shielding (Y/N) from a deadly fall to the humongous rocks nested around the rocky and long structure.
‘Cape Kamui? Again? Why do I keep dreaming of this place?! I haven’t been here in years! Do I miss my old home so much that my brain continues to bring me here? But, it looks so real…’
All of sudden, with the corner of her eye (Y/N) caught the silhouette of someone in the distance, they were with their back turned to her looking at the scenery without a care. That right there was new. This had become a recurrent dream since she moved, but in all the other occasions (Y/N) was there by her own, not a single soul was there, and now an unknown presence awaited ahead.
‘Should I talk to them? Well, I guess is worthed a try.’
With vacillating steps, (Y/N) walked forward to the mysterious entity, as she started to move along the slightly narrow path. Suddenly the wind became more and more agitated as she advanced, her hair moved haphazardly blocking her view frequently. Soon walking became more difficult forcing her to stay still, tightly gripping the railing. The blue and clear sky over her became gray and clouded.
‘What the hell?! Maybe if I try to-’
“E-Excuse me!” You shouted. “Do you know what is happening? I-I haven’t seen you here before! Do I-do I know you?!”
The inexplicable being seen to haven’t noticed (Y/N)'s attempts to make contact, but now she could catch a certain detail that had ignored before while trying to keep herself steady in the implacable bursts. The perimeter around this enigmatic character remained intact the whole time, even the portion of sky over them lingered cloudless and immaculate. The breeze swayed delicately what at your current distance seems to be a white sundress.
‘So, it’s a girl’
Abruptly a blaring sound started to resonate in (Y/N) head, she tried to cover her ears with her hands to no avail. Gradually her vision began to blur and a heavy sensation of falling invaded her body. Unexpectedly everything became black until-
“OUCH!!”
Once again, (Y/N)’s world took a 180-degree change of scenery, a more uncomfortable and painful one per se. There she laid on her bedroom floor, upside down, hair scattered, ungracefully contorted with her legs dangling over her head in something similar to a pretty messy plow yoga position.
(Y/N) blinked still sleepy and confused trying to remember what was going on before she ended up like this, but unfortunately, her abrupt awakening seen to had blurred her memory. All of sudden (Y/N) was brought back from her stirred thoughts as a soft knock was heard on her door.
“Honey are you-oh my! What happened to you?!” (Y/N) mother quacked as she entered your room, her face contorted in concern. “Here, let me help you, darling, I don’t think that position could be good for your back”
“O-Ok, thanks”
After her mother helped her to stand up again, (Y/N) decided to take a quick shower to relax and clear her mind. Now, more awaken and changed in her uniform she was sitting in her vanity stool absentmindedly brushing her hair trying to recall what kind of dream she had last night.
“It will be best if I stop to think about that, I’m gonna get a migraine, it was just a dream, no biggie.”
Once detangled, (Y/N) proceed to think how she would like to style her hair or just use it loose as always. “I don’t want to tie it but I want something different.” Instantly a bulb lighted up over her head, from one of the front drawers she took out a thin light blue ribbon. She put it around her head like a headband and knot it in a little bow at the side of her head.
Content with her simple but cute look she took her already packed bag and proceeded to go downstairs to have breakfast. In her way to the first floor, (Y/N) caught the aroma of fresh pancakes and coffee.
“Smells good!” (Y/N) excitedly exclaimed once she spotted her mom coming out of the kitchen with a stack of pancakes and a bottle a maple syrup to place them on the table.
“I’m glad you think so! I put some chocolate chips in the batter just like you like it!”
“You are the best mom!~”
“Oh, darling I know it. Now sit down and eat you have to leave to soon” (Y/N) did as her mother said, who shortly joined her with her morning coffee on hand. Both of them thanked for the food and dug in.
“Oh, now that I remember! Yesterday I met our next-door neighbor!” (Y/N)’s mom chimed happily.
“Oh really? What did you talk about?”
“Oh, she was really nice and chatty! Her name is Mitsuki but I don’t remember her last name, was it, Bai? Bandai? Bando? Oh, this terrible memory of mine is getting worse and worse every day!” (Y/N)’s mom complained.
“It’s funny that we’ve already met all our close neighbors but them. It’s weird if you think about it.”
“I guess so, she also said that she has a son your age that also attends Aldera Junior High! Maybe you could start going to school together and become friends! Probably he’s as nice as his mom.”
“Hmm probably” (Y/N) said mind absently. “Hey, mom…” She whispered while putting down her cutlery. “Did-did the doctor answered something about- you know…”
Akari paused her fork holding a piece of pancake in mid-air in front of her open mouth, shock spread all over her face. She quickly composed herself and cleared her throat. “He told us it was a long process, you know a lot of tests, blood works, scans and so… he told us not to worry too much, all the necessary requirements were successfully fulfilled. Don’t worry darling, everything would be ok; we have to be faithful.” (Y/N)’s mom reassured her as she squeezed her hand.
“I know but, I’m just… scared.”
“I know baby, I know.”
🏫🚲🏃🏻‍♀️
“I’m leaving now mom!” (Y/N) exclaimed from the front door as she put on her shoes at the genkan. “Alright, sweetie! Are you bringing your bento? Your handkerchief? Your pencil-case? Your toothbrush? Your phone? Your pouch with all your ‘lady necessities’?
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.”
“Ok! Please take care and if anything happens call me immediately and I’ll go to pick you up. I have a meeting with a potential meat and seafood distributor for the new restaurant today but I’ll have my phone with me all the time at full volume.”
“Alright mom! Ittekimasu!”
"Itterasshai darling!"
After locking the door and taking her bike (Y/N) exited her house through the short gate door at the front, but stopped midway when her ears caught what sounded like a heated discussion next door, but the loud argument wasn’t the problem, it was one of the voices involved; an annoying, loud and really familiar voice to be exact.
‘No way…’
“I’m warning you Katsuki! Take your fucking lunch or I’ll personally deliver it to you, at school, in your classroom, in front of all of your classmates!”
“You wouldn’t dare old hag!”
“Oh, but I would! I didn’t wake up at fucking five in the morning to make a bento that you’ll refuse to eat! Now take it!”
“Piss off!”
*SLAP!*
“Don’t hit me old hag! I’ll kill you!”
“Don't you dare to talk to your mother like that you ungrateful brat!”
‘Nice my ass! What made my mom thought that this woman could be nice in the first place?! She’s shouting at her son in the middle of the street like a madwoman at 7:30 in the morning because he doesn't want his bento?! What is this?! Crazy Town?!’
“I already told you a thousand fucking times to stop making this shitty bentos! I’m not seven anymore! Not my problem that you are an old hag that can’t remember shit!
“What did you say?!’
“You heard me!”
‘I was lucky yesterday because I left earlier and he must walk to school so the chances to run into him were slim. Damn! Now I’m gonna have to wake up earlier to avoid him?! Fuck you, Bakugou! Why in heaven did he have to live next door?! Now I understand why the house was cheaper than it should have, the realtor said the former owner had trouble selling it because of the size and the prize, hah! What a joke.’
“Enough of this, I have to go before he notices me, I can get ahead faster so I won’t see him until I get to the class. Yes! Now all I have to do is walk away really slowly-”
(Y/N) put her escape plan in action immediately, moving as fast and quietly as she could even lifting the bike a little bit so the sound of the chain wouldn’t forewarn them of her presence. After a short but cumbersome trail, 2 houses away from hers (Y/N) hopped on her bike more than ready to cycle with all her might directly to the school when another voice resounded at the distance.
“(Y/N)! You forgot the bag with your P.E uniform!” Exclaimed Akari while she held the said bag for (Y/N) to see it clearly.
‘FUCK! No! No! Calm down just take the stupid bag and run! Yes! You can do it!’
(Y/N) pedaled at high speed towards her mother with an only goal in mind, ‘retrieve and flee’ Just a little bit more and she could make a clean escape. Just two feet more!
Putting all her skills on display (Y/N) did her best to balance herself on the bike with only one hand on the rudder while she extended her right hand as much as she could, ready to snatch the bag and leave for dear life.
‘Just a few inches more! Yes! You can do it! Just keep pedaling! Just keep!-’
“Oh! Akari-san! I thought I heard your voice!” Mitsuki beamed as she leaned out of her house entrance while she dragged her temperamental scion by the ear.
‘Son of a biscuit!’
“Let me go you shitty hag!”
“Watch your damn language brat! Can’t you see our lovely neighbors are here too!”
“Like I care for those extras! Let me go! I’ll be fucking late!”
*SMACK!*
“Stop with the fucking hitting!”
“Stop screaming!”
“You stop screaming!”
“Oh, isn’t this neighborhood lively, darling?~” Chimed Akari smiling amusedly at the scene in front of her.
“Aha…” (Y/N) petrified by her side, all willing to live left her body already.
‘I hate my life…’
“Oh! Bakugou!” Said Akari while she bumped the side of her fist over her open palm “Mitsuki-san’s last name is Bakugou!”
“And why couldn't you ‘ve remembered this important piece of information, I don’t know, like thirty-five minutes ago mother?” (Y/N) groaned.
“Oh, you know I’ve always had a bad memory, but I always end up remembering everything at the right time” Akari giggled. (Y/N) simply sighed for the umpteenth time that morning.
‘I’m exhausted already’
After a couple of minutes of bickering, the interesting ‘shoutversation’ mother and son had come to a halt when Mrs. Bakugou strongly hit her son’s head pushing it down in a bow like position.
“Oh, Akari-san! I’m so ashamed that you had to witness this! Katsuki can be a handful sometimes!” Said the blond woman with a dismayed expression.
'Just sometimes?'
“Oh, don’t worry!” Said (Y/N)’s mom waving her hand dismissively. “Teens are usually more temperamental, especially at this age. (Y/N) is not always a ray of sunshine, you know how hormones are.
“Mom!” (Y/N) exclaimed embarrassed, making the older blonde’s attention go from her mom to her, acknowledging her presence. The female Bakugou’s expression went from pensive to surprised, to excited to hopeful all in a matter of five seconds.
“Oh my! you must be (Y/N)-chan! Your mother has told me a lot about you! I’m Bakugou Mitsuki, but you can call me Mitsuki! This is my son, Katsuki! He goes to the same school as you! Katsuki say ‘hi’!” Said Mitsuki with a cheery voice.
*UNINTELLIGIBLE GRUMBLES*
“I SAID SAY ‘HI’ KATSUKI!!”
“OH MY FUCKING-! Hi or whatever!” sneered the seething blond.
“Umm… hi…” After her court response Katsuki seemed to tense slightly, like he just fogured out something. He then slowly rose his head and his wide, bloodshot eyes met (Y/N)’s unfazed yet irritated ones.
“THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE THIEF BITCH?!”
*SLAP! x3*
“KATSUKI YOU DISGRACEFUL PUNK! APOLOGIZE THIS INSTANT!”
“Make me old hag!!!”
*SLAP! x6*
“So help me Katsuki! I will take away all of your phone, Wi-Fi, and PS privileges!”
“I wanna see you try!  And why should I apologize?! This shitty thief used her fucking quirk on me yesterday! If anyone should apologize, it's her!”
“Ha! Knowing you, you must have deserved it for sure!”
“Da fuck?!”
“I told you to stop with the fucking swearing!”
“You stop with the fucking swearing!”
‘Oh God help us all’

Ambassador Kim Jongin 2
Tumblr media
🐻summary: Kim Jongin, Ambassador of Gucci, and one hell of a man. You, designer for the newest collection, and one guilty of falling star struck. Opportunity, easier said than done.
🐻warnings: NSFW (later parts), other than that, just a good read...for now.
Tumblr media
Kim Jongin, also know as Kai, is an important asset to Gucci. Just an appearance wearing one of Gucci’s pieces results in an immediate sell out every time. Now, he reigns the title of Gucci’s Ambassador and his name is now used for a VIC (very important customer). ‘Kai’ is now the name people who make an impact on Gucci are called. What an amazing man. We look forward to seeing what he models in this seasons line.
The TV in the background played the latest in the fashion world. And of course the guy you’ve been trying to avoid is all they seem to talk about. You weren’t trying to avoid him in the literal sense exactly. You got home about 4 hours ago and only 2 hours ago, you texted him ‘yes ;)’. Yes to the date. And he texted you back but you’ve been too ‘occupied’ to answer it. You figured he’s pretty busy and you’re somewhat busy. But in all reality, you were just dragging it on. So you decided to stop being such a pussy and just answer the man.
Kai: this was worth the wait.
Kai: you know, you’re a tough woman.
Kai: do I have to wait another 3 hours for a reply?
You: tough and busy.
You: my time is precious.
Kai: that it is. you’re quite precious too.
You: kai you’re adorable and all but the flirting is sub par.
Kai: have dinner with me tonight and i’ll show you otherwise.
You: hmm tonight?
Kai: you’re not busy on a friday night and I am not taking no for an answer.
Kai: pick you up in an hour.
And that was an hour ago. And now, you were sat across from Kim Jongin in a fancy steakhouse on the rooftop area, an area exclusive to one party at a time and a cost of a pretty penny.
“Rooftop view. Is this to impress me Kim Jongin?” you asked taking the flute of wine he handed you. The wind was light and cool. The night sky dark but the area was warmly lit.
“Depends. Do you need impressing?” he said. His voice was incredible. It was like a mix between deathly deep and silky smooth.
“I don’t. But if I did, you’d have to try harder than that.” you said. You stepped back and tuned away to walk towards the table and sat down. All the while, he stood and watched you, only coming to join you once you were seated.
“How hard exactly?” he said smirking at you. A little cheeky with his words but you knew it was intentional.
“Very hard.” you said simply. You two sat sipping from your wine glasses smirking at each other until your food was brought out. He ordered for you based on what he thought you’d like. He didn’t tell you what he ordered, but he did say he was certain you’d like it. You thought for a fact he was wrong. You don’t eat meat, only fish. Many people don’t know that about you. And you hate with a passion spinach. So with that in mind, how would he have picked correctly if he brought you to a steakhouse?
But he was right. He ordered you honey glazed salmon and a vegetable blend with rice. He ordered himself the same thing but asparagus instead of the vegetable blend. You tried to fake being unimpressed but it was written all over your face.
“Eh.” you said picking up a fork. He laughed making you look at him.
“Eh? That’s a funny way to say I was right.” he said.
“Ok. Very impressive. What’s your secret?” you gave in. He had to have asked someone at the office. Maybe your assistant or director?
“My secret is listening and observing. I was more than sure enough to assume you picked the menu for the meeting today. All the hors d’oeuvres were of the seafood variety, no meat. The catering company was very familiar with me. And they specialize in vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian food options. And to be safe, a vegetable blend is universal. If you’re anything like me, I hate spinach but love asparagus. So in conclusion, I know you quite well.” he smiled. You were impressed. Not only at the fact that he got it right but at his ability to comprehend something so random from little bits of clues.
“Well Kai. You’re much more than just a pretty face and hot body. You’ve got a good brain.” you said taking a bite of the salmon just waiting to be devoured. He watched you before joining in eating.
“I give good brain too.” he whispered before stuffing his mouth. You actually chocked on your food. It was unattractive but he didn’t mind it; after all it was his fault.
“Kai this is the first date. You’re already getting carried away.” you said drinking some wine to wash down your coughed up throat.
“You said it first. And I’m very blunt. I say what’s on my mind.” he said pouring you more wine.
“Giving someone head is on your mind right now? While we are at dinner? Jongin that’s...really just not a good look.” you said.
“No I’m not thinking of giving someone head while we are at dinner. I’m thinking of giving you head while we are at dinner. There’s a huge difference.” he smirked.
“What happened to the shy introverted sweetheart I met earlier? For some reason he’s hiding and now I’m...well I’m surprised.” you said. It wasn’t that far off of being the same person. The confidence was the same. The cute face was the same. The way he looked at you was the same. But the words that came out of his mouth were a little more daring.
“I’m the same guy. You just only experienced a couple minutes actually talking to me. And we weren’t alone, I couldn’t be...so forward with you in a room full of models and directors.” he said. You stared at him and decided to continue eating before you’d go on with this bizarre conversation.
“So you’re a typical guy. A model and ambassador, sure. A highly respected man in the fashion world. But still a man with one thing on his mind. And that’s getting between someone’s legs.” you said walking to the railing of the roof. You two were done eating and got another glass of wine and decided to just enjoy the company of one another.
“I’d like to argue that statement. When you met me, I intrigued you. You liked me from the minute you saw me. Do you think you’re the only one who I have that effect on?” he asked. He was standing next to you fairly close, both of you staring at each other leaning on the railing.
“I know I’m not the only one.” you said.
“Ok then. Now tell me this. How many of those people do you think I ask on dates? How many do I ask out on the first time meeting them? Give me an estimate.” he said. You knew where he was going.
“Hmm let me guess. None.” you say. The wine was starting to kick in.
“Correct again. So I’ll do the math for you on this one. A dozen times zero give you zero. So that means, and bare with me here, I’m sticking my dick in very few to none. So tell me what a normal model guy like me has on his mind?” he said leaning forward a little. You couldn’t help but stare at his lips when he talked. And when he was just standing there waiting for you to reply, he smirked before raising your chin with his finger to make you look into his golden eyes.
“Asshole.” you whispered before pushing his finger away. He laughed and leaned on the railing again smiling at you.
“Excuse me for being completely honest about how I feel right now. But can you blame me. You happen to have the same effect on me that I have on you. Seeing you talk business and explain your passion was really the hook and sinker. Then you...in this dress. Were both adults here.” he said. And you couldn’t agree more.
“So I guess I can be blatantly honest too?” you said. Your words were a little slurred but you don’t think he would have noticed. He’s probably notice your wavering balance.
“Brutally honest is what I prefer.” he said taking your hand.
“I like you a lot. I like your attitude and the way you carry yourself. You’re very humble for someone so impactful.” you said. He raised him brow at you.
“Is that all? That’s not anything new.” he said. You took a step closer and were basically pressed against him. His arm smoothly wrapped around your waist to secure you tighter.
“I think you’re one of the most beautiful men I’d ever seen. And to be brutally honest, I’ve never wanted to sleep with someone on the first date more than I do now.” you said. Now, looking at this situation from a sober mind, you’d never would have said anything like that. He’s your model for fucks sakes. And he’s like really fucking important. And you’re not a really daring or blatantly honest person. You’d never done anything like that. But this is not a sober mind talking. And he was infiltrating your mind.
“That’s pretty honest. But I think I can do better.” he said. His hand slowly ran up your back making your spine tingle.
“Try me.” you whispered. You were too close to him. It was effecting you more than the wine.
“You’ve got a very pretty mouth.” he said.
“And I’ve wanted to do a lot of things to it since you got here. Even at the meeting. I’ll show you later.” he said before running his hand down your back to grab your ass.
“And your body is better than any model I have ever seen. I won’t get explicit here, but I’m dying to undress you.” he breathed on to your lips. They weeent touching yours but they were pretty damn close.
“Then do it.” you said.
“Your place or mine.” he replied.
“Which ever is closer.” you said.
“As you wish.” he answered.

Where the sun sets in a perfect sky - Billy Hargrove
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Billy’s less sad. (Y/N)’s kinda happy. California feels like home and the salty ocean air makes teenagers horny.
A/N: This is part two to this imagine. There’s borderline smut in here but I marked the start and end if it so if that’s not your thing you can skip it. Please let me know if you want more of these two because I do have a lot more ideas for their story.
Tell me secrets, 'cause I know you're scared And you dream of California, tonight If you wait up, I could meet you there And we could be in California tonight When everything that I can see Goes dark I feel you here with me And I, I'm holding on to you When shadows try to swallow me You're the only light I'll ever need And I, I'm holding on to you
“ I remember this one time when my dad took me on a trip to San Francisco and we had ice cream and sodas and we were standing there watching out onto the bay and I saw a fin reaching out of the water for a mere second.  I was so sure it was a mermaid. Like in my tiny childhood brain it was the only logical conclusion. It didn’t even occur to me that it was most likely a seal. I was so passionately convinced that I had just seen a mermaid. From that moment on I wanted to be a mermaid myself. We had a little pool in our backyard and all I did all day that summer, was swim and dive and splash around. Because that’s all I wanted to be with my heart and soul. I don’t remember if I knew that mermaids aren't real and just wanted to stay blissfully ignorant or if I honestly believed in it and just allowed myself to feel the magic. I wish I could feel this passionate about something now. Like — back then my dream was to become a mythical creature from a fairy tale. Now my biggest goal is to survive high school and not drown in my own stupid teenage-despair. Isn’t that kind of — kind of sad ? “
Billy is looking out at the waves as she talks. There’s something about California that makes him feel lighter, warmer, like the world is still shit but it’s wrapped in a veil of familiarity and comfort. This is home and his heart is still heavy and mind is still racing but this is home.
When he doesn’t react, (Y/N) speaks up again.
“ What did you want to be ? “
Loved, he thinks. He doesn’t say that though.
“ A racecar driver. A musician. A wrestler. A tv host. A pirate “
“ You’d be a good pirate “
“ Thanks “ he thinks so too. He suits eyeliner and earrings.
“ Not a basketball player ? “
“ No “
“ Why not ? “
He’s never told this to anyone. But (Y/N) isn’t just anyone. She’s the girl he had one conversation with. The girl that understands. The girl that took all her savings and packed her bags in one night to take a flight to California with him. She’s (Y/N).
“ I hate basketball. I’m just good at it. Being good at something means succeeding, means having something to tell my dad about. Means I get a pat on the back. It’s one of the few times his hand doesn’t leave a mark. “
For a moment (Y/N) resorts to letting the warm sand run through her fingers, carefully considering the words she’s about to speak.
“ You do it because you’re good at it but you also hate it ? Doesn’t that make you — I don’t know. Doesn’t it make you feel miserable ? “
“ It makes me angry “
She softly places her head on his shoulder “ I am angry too “
“ Why ? “
“ Because I don’t know who I am “
That is something Billy never would’ve expected. The girl with the pink fur coat, the personality so loud and so unapologetically herself, doesn’t know who she is.
“ What’s that supposed to mean ? “
He can feel her soft skin on his shoulder, the fan of her lashes as she closes her eyes for a moment. Billy doesn’t think anything has ever felt this intimate in all his life. Not the sex with girls at school, not the kisses from the few girlfriends he’s had back here in California. Nothing.
“ When my parents died, everything changed. People’s perception of me changed. I was expected to either go down the wrong path and become a horrible person who blames their terrible behavior on their tragic life story. Or I was gonna become this saint of a person who takes strength from their struggles and the obstacles life throws their way. And it’s like — people who don’t experience a loss like I did, like you did, they don’t get it. Life doesn’t go one of two ways. Life just becomes this tangled web of good days and bad days and I don’t know how to navigate my own feelings, how am I supposed to deal with people’s expectations of how I’m meant to grief ? Does this make sense ? I feel like I’m talking gibberish. “
It doesn’t make sense but he understands perfectly.
“ When I cry or lash out or get angry, people will think I am having a meltdown and can’t deal with my shit. When I don’t cry people will think I’m heartless. I can’t win. It’s bad enough everyone thinks I’m weird already. I just — I’m trying. And that makes me angry. Having to police my grief so I don’t upset anyone. Having to restrain my personality so I don’t get perceived in a way that I don’t want to be perceived. The fact that I even care makes me the most angry “
He places a kiss on her head. She smells like the ocean air already. He thinks this is his favourite scent of all time. Her. Her and home.
“ How do you deal with your anger ? “
“ I fuck people I don’t love and hope the endorphins kill the pain for a while. You ? “
“ I destroy stuff “
“ That’s not healthy “
He just nods.
There’s no judgement here where usually that’s all there would be. If they weren’t who they are. If it were someone else. But they both get it and they know neither of them is in a position to judge.
“ Why people you don’t love ? “
“ Because It’s different. It doesn’t mean anything. “
“ Have you ever fucked someone you love ? “
“ No, you ? “
“ No. “
And they both know then that something’s changed. That there’s an invisible question, an unspoken promise.
He holds her hand as they walk along the waterfront. There’s wind blowing through her hair and her skirt gets blown up a little every once in a while. She’s watching the people go about their day. He’s watching her.
Sometimes things feel right, like this moment. He always thought that love and joy and all that mushy shit from the songs and the movies wasn’t meant for him so he deemed it not worth the effort and tried to forget about it. But now that he gets a glimpse, a spark of what could be, he thinks it’s not so bad.
He grabs her hand tighter, he doesn’t want this feeling to go away. Ever.
“ I gotta show you something “ Billy exclaims and pulls her down a little sideroad.
There’s shops that sell cheap sunglasses and fans and postcards. A seafood store. A burger joint. And the arcade.
Nestled between the arcade and a 7/11 type store, is a shop that looks closed. Looks like it hasn’t been open in years. (Y/N) thinks they might’ve sold what looks like vintage cameras, films and polaroids. Billy holds her by the hand and walks her past the store and around the corner.
There’s a bunch of cutout photo frames, the kind you’d find at the end of a pier. The ones you put your face through and take funny pictures for you family photo album.
“ This is so cool, where are we, Billy ? “
“ When I was a kid my mom used to work here and sometimes when she worked weekends she let me come with her. The owner of this place always put one of the cutouts in front of the store for people to take their picture and then have it developed there. They used to switch out the cutouts every once in awhile and when they weren’t used they were stored here. This alley was closed off then, when the placed closed they opened it up and let the cutouts stand out here to rot away. “
(Y/N) thinks this is adorable. She hasn’t really thought about Billy as a little kid, he’s so cynical and rough. But now, she can just imagine little blonde billy with his big blue eyes playing around here. Pretending to be the people on the cutouts.
“ Which one was your favorite ? The strong man ? “
“ Actually no. I liked the superhero best. And the one with the suit and the tophat “.
“ A gentleman huh ? “
“ Like no other, baby. “
And they laugh. And it feels good.Therapeutic. Like for a little while his heart is less heavy. His head is less crowded. And his anger is gone.
“ There’s one I think you’ll like “
He pulls her along by her hand, past the strong man and the neanderthals and the sailor. In the back there’s a princess and a bride and a sea serpent. And in the middle of them all, like it was placed there specifically just for her. There’s a mermaid there.
“ Today you get to be a mermaid “
She wants to cry and laugh at the same time. To everyone else this would be cute, yes but also not that special. But to her it means everything. Because he cares. He tries. He delivers. With Billy things are reckless and cautious at once. With him everything feels twice as much. Her heart beats twice as fast and she fears that it will hurt twice as much once they have to go back to Hawkins and leave behind the magic that is today. That is California, that is home that is this little bubble they’ve created for themselves.
“ Thank god I brought the polaroid “ she exclaims and fumbles it from her bag, pushing it into Billy’s hand and rushing behind the cutout.
As she puts her head through the hole and becomes a mermaid, there’s a smile spreading on her face that, Billy is sure, can light up the entire city. The entire world. His world for sure.
Never in his life has he felt like his happiness was dependant on someone else. On someone else’s happiness. Now he does. It scares him to his bones but it also makes his heart feel all warm and his tummy all jittery.
This feels too good to be real. Too good to last. He’s scared of the end but he’s too happy to think about that right now.
And so he smiles back. And he’s missed genuinely smiling. He’s missed it so much.
He takes a picture and shakes it then hands it to her, her head still placed in the cutout.
“ You were born to be a mermaid “
“ I agree “ she says, a smile hidden in every word. (Y/N) places the photo in her purse and beckons him closer.
“ You just put a little magic back in my life “ she says and he comes closer and closer, and it’s awkward because her face is still stuck through the cutout and there’s a wooden wall around her but he can’t stop now. He doesn’t want to.
Their noses touch, then their lips. It’s gentle and slow but filled with a desire they can feel all around them. The desire that’s been there since their first conversation in Hawkins.
When they kiss it’s saliva and tongue and biting lips and breaths mingling and love.
“ I want to fuck you “
She doesn’t think she’s ever had more romantic words spoken to her in all her life.
“ I want to know what it feels like to fuck someone I love. “
She’s pink. The entire fucking motel room is pink. They’ve been given the room that has a straight on view of the neon sign advertising the “ Red Sunset Motel” .
She’s pink. And sweaty. And warm. And so so soft.
Her hands are moving up his torso, over his stomach, his shoulders, his neck. She takes his face in between them and just looks at him for a moment. There’s something in her eyes he can’t place. He doesn’t really want to either. It’s like she sees more in him. So much more than anyone ever did. Than anyone ever bothered looking for.
“ You’re beautiful “
He’s never been called beautiful. Handsome, sure. Sexy, a lot. Hot, all the time. Never beautiful. If anyone else would’ve said it he would’ve felt emasculated. Not with her.
For a lack of anything to respond, he kisses her. There’s a lot he could say, a lot he wants to say, but none of it feels right in this moment. Kissing her does. Nothing’s ever felt more right.
She still smells like the ocean and she tastes like cherry slushie.
There’s a lot of kissing and touching. A lot of soft whispers and deep breaths. He knows that’s gonna change in a minute but he wants it now. Just like this. Like he’s never had it before.
- This is where the “smut” starts -
When she wiggles out of her panties, Billy thinks it’s hilarious. It’s awkward and not like the movies at all. It’s a lot of moving around in weird angles and trying to get it right. They never show that. But they don’t show the blushed cheeks either, the embarrassed glances and the laughs that follow.
He’s never wanted it before. It was all fast and rough and meaningless. A race to get off and get out.
Her skin is warm as he kisses down her body. Her eyes are locked on the ceiling but he’s looking up at her over and over again. He wants to see her, see what he does to her. See that he can make her feel good. Make her forget. Make her stop hurting. Make her cum.
“ Can I lick your pussy “
No one’s ever outright asked her things like this before. So dirty. So raunchy, so vulgar. So hot. She thinks asking for consent is probably the sexiest thing she ever experienced.
She nods. Because who the fuck wouldn’t ?
Every nerve in her body is working on overdrive. There’s goosebumps up and down her arms and with every kiss he places on her it gets more. And more. And more.
And her breath gets heavier and her eyes close and then flutter. And the knot in the lower part of her stomach gets tighter and tighter.
Billy is the first person to do this to her. Other stuff, she’s done that sure, but not this. Her toes curl and her fingers hold onto the bed sheets like her life depends on it. In that moment it really feels like it.
His tongue draws little circles and she’s sure he’s done this before. It just feels so overwhelmingly amazing. There’s no sliver of pain, no hint of anger. Nothing. It’s all tingles and joy and a buzz of adrenaline and happiness.
She has to bite her lips so hard she’s sure she’s drawing blood. There’s no fireworks or stars or butterflies but there is an orgasm that’s shaking her to her bones. That’s making her grab onto Billy’s stupid mullet she adores a little if we’re being honest.
And when she’s calmed down a little he lifts his head and smiles. His smile is fucking great, she decides.
There’s not a sliver of skin Billy doesn’t kiss when he comes back up. When he reaches her lips the kisses get rougher, there’s more tongue, more saliva, more biting and deeper breaths. There’s more urgency. Making her cum has only made him more excited for what's to come.
He loves this girl. This girl who understands in a way he thought no one ever would. The girl who feels so lost and yet she might just be his destination. This girl that’s stumbled into his life during one of the worst times. Who doesn’t take the pain away forever but who gives him something to numb it. To forget about the pain for a while.
There’s some stumbling off of the bed and awkward searching around in his wallet before he finds a condom. The films don’t show this either but it makes for more laughs. And he’s honestly fine with anything that makes her laugh.
The moment he pushes in isn’t magical or special. But when he holds still and she grabs onto his sides and they look at each other breathing deeply, something’s there that’s not been there before.
Her smile is a sign for him to start moving and man does he deliver. (Y/N) swears this boy might just be the death of her. Where he’s learned to move like that, hit just the right spot at just the right speed, she doesn’t know. But he’s good. He’s so so good.
Billy relishes the feelings running through his body. It feels like this is the first time he’s properly experiencing sex. There’s no music blasting through speakers, no concern in the back of his mind about the leather seats of his car, nothing. Just (Y/N) and him.
There’s a need to go faster rougher and by the look on her face she feels it to. So he does that. Goes faster. Harder. Holds onto her tighter. Moves her legs up a little so he can go deeper.
It’s dirty sex. Wild sex. Sex that would make other people jealous. Because it’s also really really good. And it means something to them both that they can’t put into words but it’s there.
Billy holds onto her face and smothers her in a kiss as he comes. He wants her to come first but there’s no holding back for him now. She’s not far behind though. He can feel her tighten, feel her fingers grasp onto him, see her eyes close and there’s a moan that sounds so sexy, so sweet so satisfying. It’s a job well done for him. He wants to give himself a pat on the back but that would be a douchebag move. Steve Harrington does shit like that, probably.
- “smut” ends here -
They’re kissing some more. If this is all he gets to do for the rest of his life, Billy thinks he’ll die a happy man.
Postcoital bliss settles upon the room. Everything is still pink. Everything is still quiet. It’s just them and their breaths and their thumping hearts and those unspoken words that something has changed.
“ I want a house by the ocean “ It’s Billy who speaks up. Something inside him wants to let go. Let it all out and release it into the word. Even if the world is just their tiny pink motel room. Even if the world is only her.
He rolls off of her and settles on his side. His fingers trace along her shoulder, down her arm and back up again before he links them with her hand that’s resting on her stomach.
“ A house by the ocean ? “
“ Yeah, or maybe an apartment. It doesn’t matter. I want to live by the beach though. I wanna have a dog, a big one with lots of fluffy fur. I wanna have a wife and a child or two. I want to — I want to be a good husband. A good father. I want to right all the wrongs that I’ve had to live through “.
(Y/N) can just imagine him in his little blue house by the ocean. No mullet. He’s a little more tan and a little more at ease. His blue eye are happy and he’s cuddling a little child in his arms and he’s — happy. Next time she eats pop rocks she’ll make sure to spend her wish on him. On his future. And maybe, if there’s a wish to spare, she’ll take it for herself and wish to be a part of that future.
“ I don’t wanna leave “
“ The bed ? “ Billy asks and throws her a wink. In that moment she sees a spark of the Billy Hargrove that walks the halls of Hawkins High and scores on the Basketball field. She hasn’t really given him a lot of thought back then. She likes her Billy better but it’s nice to see this side of him up close too.
“ The bubble. I wanna stay in California forever “
He does too. So badly. He doesn’t know if there’s ever been anything he wanted more.
“ Would you freak out if I told you I loved you ? “
“ Are we talking hypothetically ? “
“ Yeah “ he nods “ asking for a friend. “
“ No, I wouldn’t. I’d probably tell you that I love you too. “
“ That’s good to know “
They’re quite for another moment. Not because there isn’t anything to say but because they don’t need to say anything. This silence isn’t asking to be filled with unnecessary commentary.
They just are. Alive. In love. Happy.
And it’s enough for a while.
But good things don't last. They don’t. Not in a world like this, (Y/N) thinks.
There’s a shadow of doubt creeping into the back of her head.
“ Do you think It’s too early for us to feel like this ? Isn’t love supposed to be this special thing that takes time and effort ? It never happens like this in movies. It never happened like this to anyone I know “ .
“ Who says that ? The love-police ? “
She laughs and jokingly slaps his chest “ be serious “.
“ I am. Look — I don’t think there’s a rulebook for this kind of shit. It feels good doesn’t it ? “
“ Very “
“ And it feels right ? “
“ Yes. “
“ And it makes us happy ? “
“ Correct “
“ Why should we let anyone else’s idea of what love’s supposed to be diminish what we have then ? Isn’t that what we’re about ? Fucking everyone else’s perception of things, not giving a shit about their morals and beliefs ? I know I’ve never felt this way about any other person, ever. I don’t give a fuck if it took me two years or two days, all I know is that I am in love with you. With us. With our little world where things are — alright. This, I promise, is not gonna stop once we get back to Hawkins. It’s not gonna be this easy, this light but we’ll figure it out. Because I need you and you need me and we need this. Something to remind us that life is shit but there’s some things that make it all worth it. And also the sex was pretty fucking mind blowing and I wanna do that many more times. “
She knows that he just gave her a love confession Billy Hargrove style if she’s ever heard one and that she should probably answer with words just as heartfelt. She doesn’t though.
“ Wanna go again ? “
“ What kinda question is that ? “
“ So yes ?
“ Fuck yeah “.
Rain is pouring down as they stroll along the beach. Her hair is clinging to her face and Billy looks like a wet poodle, he’s fairly sure. But she wanted to see the beach one last time before they have to leave to catch their flight.
“ You’re gonna get sick “
“ I don’t care “
“ I’m gonna get sick “
“ Don’t be a baby, Billy ! ” she says and smiles at him. He thinks the rain isn’t so bad if she’s smiling.
She’s smiling and twirling and being as a posterchild for weird. Billy loves it.
“ I wanna come back. 5 years from now. I wanna be back here and I wanna be here with you and I wanna be this happy and I wanna — I wanna feel alive and not angry and not hurt. “
Billy takes her face between his hands and brushes away the wet strands of hair that cling to her skin.
“ I’ll be there “
“ Yeah ? “
“ Yeah, I’ll be wherever you want me to be, baby. I’ll follow you anywhere. I think — ah fuck this is cheesy but uh — I think I can be happy wherever you are. “
And he really thinks so. Suddenly Hawkins doesn’t sound so bad if he imagines (Y/N) there. Kissing beneath the bleachers at school, cheering him on during his basketball games, long night drives with pop rocks and Dr. Pepper, sex on the backseat, sex with someone he loves, sharing secrets, sharing fears, and hopes, and dreams. If she’s there maybe life doesn’t have to suck.
His lips meet hers and once again he’s reminded that this isn’t like the movies. Kisses in the pouring rain, stuck in the wet sand of the beach, are hardly romantic. It’s wet and soggy and inconvenient.
But he’ll take every awkward kiss with her over a kiss with anyone else.
“ Whatever happens, we’ll always have California “
And it sounds like a promise coming from her. That things are gonna be good. Happy. That whatever happens, nothing will change what happened on this trip. Nothing will ever be able to make them forget what it felt like to be loved. Nothing will take this away from them.
California is theirs. Now and forever.

The best tips on how to save money. See how easy it is to save more than 17.000 Euros in one year.
Tumblr media
Learn how to save money in everyday life.
Tumblr media
Have you thought about how much money you spent each year on things that are not really necessary, or where the money is really just waisted? This post will show you 21 tips on how to save money. Stay on you will be surprised how easy it is. Well, when I decluttered our home, I actually realized how much money I spend on things I never use or just there to collect dust. ( I hate dusting ) I am not talking about only physical things also virtual and digital stuff you collect just to have it, but you never read it or use it.
Money comes in and money goes out.
Money is so easy to spend, and it is hard to save. You can do it you just need a plan and be aware of where your money is going. Know your numbers.  I will share with you 22 money-saving tips. I discovered them when I started to declutter my home and my life and since that time I kept the promise to myself. Ok, some tips are a bit more difficult to follow through but they are worth every Euro.
Know your numbers and keep track of things you buy and sign up for.
Each Year I will take three days and evaluate all the things I signed up for or I bought. Believe it or not but I still have things I buy out of impulse or mood, sign up for things I do not need and use only once. I guess we are all humans. I thought I will share this with you, and if you can relate to it, then start and see how it goes for you. Any saving is great.
How I saved in one single year 17.542,96 Euros.
All these tips are based on my own experience. You can change them and check on items you are able to use and cut down. They might be different from mine. Use what suits you. See how much you can save. You will be surprised.
Tumblr media
These savings are calculated in Euros. Those are the things I have cut down, and I adjusted to digital life. In some cases, I ran out of space. Just sit down and look through your bank and credit card statements and evaluate your spending in what you need and use.   The things on what I did cut down are just things where I can honestly say I do not need them anymore, and they collect dust either in a physical way or digital way.   Hopefully, you can take something away from this.
Tip.1 Magazines Subscriptions
I got rid of my magazine subscriptions as they were pilling up and most of those magazines, I did not read all of them and that was always a reason not to throw them as I will read them one day. ( Believe me, this day never comes) When I need more space for them I normally moved them from room to room.  Eventually, you run out of space. I decided with a heavy heart that I cancel all my subscriptions.  Does that sound familiar. Well, it took me some time to get over this habit. I cancelled all my 4 subscriptions and that is around €132 year. Now if I do want to read a magazine, I will buy it, but that happens now seldom as I search now a lot on the internet.
Tip 2. Save Money with Landline and Mobile Phones.
Don't get scared I kept my mobile phone but gave up our landline. 10 years ago we all used the fixed-line but now we all use mobile phones. That is a saving of € 240 a year said €20 a month. So we cancelled the landline. It was a funny feeling as we had the landline for 30 Years and you wonder if it is ok. It was part of our life. But when I think back we never used it for the last 5 years. We all have a mobile and we call each other on the mobile.
Tip3. Books Hard Cover and Soft Cover
Books. Since I had to give away so many books for the reason of space (I do not have the space to keep them all). I love books. I took the ones I wanted to keep and brought them to the Library and if I need a book or want to read one I borrow them now from the library. I also have a kindle, but I do not download each month 4 or 5 books as I used to do, I use now the borrow function and give it back after I am finished. Sometimes I look if I can find them in a pdf and if not and I really need the book I might buy or download it. Don’t get me wrong I still buy books but only if I really need them. That is a saving of €29.99 a month. What totals to € 359.88 Download our free ebook. The Lazy Way of Decluttering your Life. All it takes is 5 minutes every day.

Tip 4. Digital TV, Netflix and Cable TV
Cable TV. I got rid of our Cable TV. I used to have Cable, Sky TV and Netflix. We seldom watch cable and Sky anymore. Plus the service or programs they offer are not really up to date and lots of repeats. I kept Netflix as this is what we watch now mainly. Cable TV is around €37.50 a month and Sky TV we paid €78.94 a month with all the English channels and of course sports channels. ( 4 Boys in the family) That is a big saving over the year. €1.397.28
Tip5. Bottled Water and Soft Drinks
I stopped buying bottled water for us and bottled beverages. I used to buy on a weekly base bottled water and other soft drinks. I have a water filter but never really used it, On top of it I also bought bottled water on the go. When I go to work and grab a quick lunch I bought with the sandwich a bottle of water. It was more of a habit than a necessity. Sometimes I bought a soft drink with a sandwich or snack. It was a weekly regular occurrence. I have don't do this anymore as there is too much plastic already around. I use now a water bottle from home ( Glass bottle) which is also more environment-friendly. I put it in my bag and have it with me all the time. My family is now used to the water filter and believe me it was not easy to change. I had big complaints from my husband and kids. The water saves me around €90 a month what is a yearly saving of €1080. Soft drinks the saving is small as I only bought them for myself and that was around €15 a month.  This is a saving of €180 a year.
Tip Nr. 6 Save Money with Eating Out and Order in.
This is a big one for us. As when kids where younger we went 2 or 3 times out for dinner or lunch on weekends. Now our kids are Teens and do not want to join us. When you live close to downtown it is so easy to take the easy way and eat out instead of cooking yourself. We still go out occasionally but not as often as we used too. We also don’t order food so often anymore. As both I and my husband has changed our diet we prefer to prepare the food we eat our self. One of our children started to become vegan so we adjusted our diet too. I have to say it was not easy but after a while doing it and sticking to the plan and the side effect is weight loss, it feels good. We did not stop eating we just eat now more healthy. We also do not have dessert with each meal now. I still bake cakes but with less sugar and butter.  Don’t worry we do not starve; we just eat with more consciousness. We cut down half of our eating out with friends and kids and that makes a huge saving for us. We do save on a weekly base now €45 Euro. It is a yearly saving of €2340.
Tip Nr. 7 Meat and Plant-based Diet.
We eat now a more plant-based diet. My family especially my sons love meat since they are teens now, they changed to a less meat diet. I do not buy so much seafood, lamb and beef anymore. We are not vegan we just cut down on meat. Instead of 4 times a week we only eat it now twice a week. If you are wondering why we do this, well I wanted to support my kids in their decision so they can stick to it easier. I am happy that they think of what they eat and what effect it has on their body. I would estimate my savings to be roughly twenty-five euros a week because I'm not buying red meat like lamb, and I'm not buying seafood as much so that twenty-five euros a week amounts to €1300  in the year.
Tip Nr. 8 E-Mails and Subscriptions
When I declutter I also declutter my digital items. Like my mailbox, all the ebooks I downloaded I thought I need, and I delete all the Spam emails plus the offers I get sent on a regular base from the companies I bought something. I unsubscribe from things and emails that no longer interest me or tempt me to many times with buying. You know when you sign up for those free gift emails from stores, in the end, they sent you all those promotional emails where they ask you to buy things. I am sure you do get them too, 40% off, 50% off, buy two for the price of one. That is super tempting. If you are like me then you will buy when they catch you at that moment. I bought so many times things I did not need or did not serve a purpose. I was just buying for the sake of buying. Honestly, some are really good at selling you these things. It was just buying for the sake of buying. I would put my estimate at €60 a month. What brings it to around € 720 in the year.
Tip Nr. 9 Wine, Beer and Alcohol
We do not drink as often as we used to. When we get drinks at a restaurant in a bit more expensive city like Munich you pay easily for a cocktail €8 and up, believe me, you are shocked how fast it adds up. When you are getting older you enjoy a drink at home but not as often as before. We are trying to set an example for our kids that they can see and experience happiness without drinks. We have occasions where we do celebrate but those are than our family occasions. When you change your diet and become more conscious about what you put into your body you reduce the alcohol too. I also need to say we do not enjoy it so much anymore. Restaurants have a huge markup too. I would say our saving for the whole year goes into an estimate of €50 a month. Which is €600 a year?
Tip Nr. 10 How to save money with Clothing, Handbags and Shoes.
I have built a more intentional wardrobe. I do not spend a lot of money on clothing, handbags, shoes that I do not truly love and wear.
Tumblr media
I also was a sale shopper and I thought because it is on sale I must have it. That is now in the past. I will not buy those great shoes just because they are on sale, and the shoes are not so comfortable but would look good with a certain outfit. In the end, I never wear the shoe or if I do it will be only around 2 or 3 times and then I will keep them in the cupboard and they get forgotten. I will then give away shoes what are hardly worn. When I buy cloth now I really think about them and when I can see myself wearing them I will buy them. I even have this habit now that I will ask “Will this improve my success in business ( I am in a Management position in a leading advertising company). Don’t laugh and no it did not go to my head. There are clothes like a beautiful blouse that brings out your skin colour and it will lift up your energy and you spread this uplifting energy around you. I have special clothing for important contracts as when I wear them I feel so good and uplifted. My mood improves a lot and it brings out that glow. People around me feel it too and that means customers will also feel it and the signing of a contract is easier done. I would estimate my savings from not buying those impulse purchases... not buying extra handbags and shoes…that would be roughly €120 a month which is €1440 in one year.
Tip Nr. 11 Travelling and Holiday a big saving or a big loss.
I loved to travel and have vacations in other countries. This is a big item for me but it might not be for you. Through my career, I am travelling now a lot and before I had this job I had at least 2 times a year vacation with my family. Our kids are now teens and they rather hang out with their friends and go on camping trips with friends than with parents. We have still one rule and that is one vacation a year we will spend together. So, reducing our vacations to one a year, and not joining my husband on different business trips saves us a lot of money each year. I enjoy Stay vacations now. We used to spend thousands of dollars a year on 2 or 3 vacations and now we only take one vacation with family. I value now the one vacation more and I enjoy the stay vacation. I can say we save roughly in one year around €2800. This might not be for you if you enjoy travelling and see different countries go for it. Look out for last-minute deals those are the best ones and the prices are also good.
Tip Nr. 12 Save Money with Extensive cleaning products.
See the advertising for this great mop that you can press out without getting your hands wet. Well, I bought the mop with 2 new mopping pads. I bought disposable products like wet wipes, paper towels, Swiffer pads wet and dry sheets, furniture wipes, kitchen wet wipes etc. I bought all of them and got a shock how much they add up. I want to do my part for the environment and now I do buy reusable items and there are different and efficient ways to use your cleaning products and items. For one thing, I got a steam mop set that I can also use in the shower. I do not need any more expensive cleaning items and the steam mop is a great addition as it also eliminates germs especially when you have pets. I would estimate my saving of around €300 in the year.
Tip 13. How to save money with electricity.
Another thing I have done and implemented is I do not use the dryer so often anymore. I use the dryer now only for underwear and towels. We also changed our light bulbs to energy-saving LED bulbs. We switch our electronic item now off instead of standby. Our Heating system and Waterheater is time programmed and when we are all at work our Heating and Water heater is in saving mode. You can program this on your heating system and on water heater system. Ok, it does not sound a lot but you will see it at the end of the year on your electricity bill. For us 4-person household it is a saving of roughly €250 a year. Now that's not a lot compared to all the other things I've talked about, but the fact that I'm using the dryer less means that my clothes last me longer so that's actually a big saving which I haven't counted in the full savings of seventeen thousand euros. I've talked about earlier. It also helps the environment. It feels good to be part of being able to do something every day for our planet.
Tip. 14 Save money with a Home Cinema
As I mention before I love to watch now more movies at home. Since we have Netflix the kids and we create our own movie theatre at home. We use a projector and throw the Netflix movie on the wall. We have popcorns and drinks. You can do the same with your TV. Popcorns are easily made and it is so much better as a Movie Theatre. Before we as a family went almost every second weekend for a movie theatre. We don’t go so often now anymore to the movies and my husband and I enjoy watching a movie at home. When you get the popcorn the drinks and the movie ticket it all ads up. I can say we save now around €400 a year.
Tip 15. How I saved money with Meal Planning.
I am not talking about preparing a meal. I am talking about meal planning. What is meal planning? It is simple you are making a plan for the whole week and then you go grocery shopping based on your list.
Tumblr media
I never did this in the past, and I went to the grocery store and bought what I thought we need. Of course, by the end of the week, some items went bad and I did throw them out which was a waste of money. We all know that when you are hungry you buy more things. The Supermarkets also normally move things around so you are going through the aisles and buying more things. I also have to admit I was buying to much stuff. I bought junk what no one eats, they wanted to eat but they did not until I had to throw the things out then only they wanted to eat them. Now with a list, I stick to it, and I do not buy all those things. One plus is that I do not waste food. I can say the saving is around €65 a month what adds up to € 780 a year.
Tip 16. Obligatory Gift giving
Don’t get me wrong when you read this, I do not say you should not gifts to family and friends. I underline the word obligatory because I'm not saying I don't give gifts. All I am saying is that I will not give gifts that I am obligated to give that I feel that I need to but I don't really want to. That's what I mean by obligatory gifts. I find that the obligatory gift-giving is an endless cycle. I give someone a gift and they're obliged to give me a gift and then I then I'm obliged to give them a gift and then that cycle keeps on going on, and I honestly do not want to be part of that cycle. I strongly believe that if you give a gift from your heart and you truly want to give them a gift not because you are supposed too. Just look around your home how many items you got as an obligatory gift and you just decorate your home because you got this gift and you do not want to upset the person who gave it to you. That is only my view, this is up to you. You do not need to agree with me and depend on the size of friends and family the saving amount might be big or small. I save roughly €450 a year.
Tip 17. How much money can you save with Coffee and Snacks?
When I worked at the downtown office we had a star bucks just beside our office building. I bought each day a coffee, or sometimes a caramel latte depends on my mood. Of course also a muffin or a small sweet pastry that goes with it. I do not do this anymore and it has a couple of reasons. 1. I cut down on my coffee consumption. 2nd. The sweet snacks go on my hips. Especially when you are with colleagues you have the coffee a sweet pastry and don’t get me wrong I do enjoy it, and I do it once in a while but not every day anymore. I enjoyed it but no doubt I enjoy more being in good shape. I would estimate the savings to be roughly €50 a month which is €600 a year.
Tip 18. Saving Tips for your Car Insurance.
If you driving a car to evaluate from time to time your Insurance. We have car insurance and after being with the Insurance company for 15 years we decided to change. We made the car insurance with our friend and for 15 years we never had any claim. My sister has also car insurance with a different company and she gets every 5 years to claim to free a return of €200. When I compared my insurance with hers, we figured out that we overpaid our insurance. We pay €596 we have a very low percentage and my sister pays half. We decided to change the Insurance and have now a saving of roughly €285 a year. I know does not sound much but calculate over the 15 years we overpaid the money we could have saved.
Tip 19. Packed lunches and snacks.
When you work for a company and they have a canteen you will go there and get your food there. After a while, you can not see that food anymore and you get used to the menu. I used to memorize the whole menu for the month. I stopped that one too now and I make my own lunches and snacks. For the reasons that we do live and eat healthier now and from some of the food in the canteen, I get heartburn. Packing my own lunches and the lunch and snack for my husband I would say gives us a roughly saving of €70 a month for both of us our kids go random one-day lunch pack one-day school canteen. This makes a saving of €840 a year. I want to stretch one thing do you realize that all the big items on saving are actually food. Food can be when you eat out, or ordering in cost a lot and sums up quickly to a bigger amount without realizing it. It has helped my budget a lot but it also helped to improve my health and weight. I feel so much better now, and I have so much more energy to do things. What I love about is that I am in control of what I eat.
Tipp 20. The saving on Souvenirs.
When I used to go on holidays twice a year I always brought back Souvenirs and little Nik Nak I thought is cute or useful from that particular country. It is only small money but another physical item that collects dust. Well over the years a lot has accumulated and all those things need dusting and need to have space. I stopped buying and bringing home these things. Souvenirs for me is only a small amount it is around €150 a year.
Tumblr media
Tipp Nr. 21 Stationery, Wrapping Paper, Scotch and Duct Tape
Do you know when you need a pen or an envelope you can not find them or you have all the variety but the ones you need is not there? You are then forced to buy the thing you need. Well even it looks small money but as you know small things add up. For example Printer cartridges I always had one spare at home and as I do not print very often anymore, when I have to change the printer cartridge most of the time it is dried out. I normally print most of the time black and white so my colour cartridges are not used very often and eventually they dry out. Another example of duct tape and scotch tape, I use it a few times a year when I pack my presents to send overseas to friends. I will always stock up on them as they are also good lint brush removers or pet hairs on your cloth. I stopped stocking up to many as after a while the glue is getting less and less so I only stock up with the max of 2. I have one stationary draw now and in there is all nicely sorted on what I need. I save for that arrangement alone around €30 a month. That ad up to €360 a year.
Tipp Nr. 22 Do you really need a Gym Membership?
For Years I had a Gym Membership and I did not go there regularly. Especially in Summertime I hardly ever went. But the monthly fee I needed to pay. In Summertime I did a lot of jogging outside and went swimming in the morning to the nearby public pool. That did cost me extra the entrance for the pool. Now I take 10x Cards and can go when I want without having to pay the monthly fee. Yes, the cards are more expensive but it saves me a month around €44.90 plus the shakes and drinks I was than buying in the gym.  That makes saving on €538,80. When you look at all those things they really add up in a year. I saved over the year € 17542.96  this is a great saving. Download our Free Ebook. The Lazy Way of Decluttering your Life. Think about or Imagine what can you do with all these savings. If you are looking to buy a house this is a part where you can start saving. Saving in this way it is not difficult and when you have the reward over the year the feeling is great. If you want to go further and declutter your home once a year makes a garage sale or sell them online you can even get more money saved. I changed my lifestyle and my priorities and I feel great and since I do look after what I eat and buy I feel and look more healthy. When you think now, my life is boring no it is not. We actually enjoy it more and we have a healthier lifestyle. We all love it. All we did is we shifted our priorities. One thing that I really love is that I am more outside and do more exercise. It is a different feeling and you can appreciate nature a bit more each day. I hope you enjoyed this blog on tips on how to save money and you learned something new from it and maybe you can relate to some of my experiences. If you liked it please share it with friends and family. All yours Natasha Read the full article

Date:  Dec 16, 2019
We have a hard time to wake up.  May be because we were too tired the day before.  So, we just bearly make it to the breakfast cut off time.  Hahaha.
The food is simple.  But enough for us to eat.
Wow, the restaurant selling Tottori crab.  I have never seen crabs has so many black dots.  This is the marker of Tottori crab.
龙见台
We start our journey by driving out towards the Sand Dunes direction.  It will takes 1 hour to go to that place.
The first stop we stopped is 龙见台.  It’s a beach, that has a car park and a coffee restaurant.
It is always fantastic feeling to see a beach.
As usual, Kay does not like direct sun light.  So, he uses his camel that he just bought at one of the highway stopover to cover his eyes.
I also wanted to take a picture here.
This is the place and the landmark.
Look at the sky.  So blue.  So, hopefully tonight has better luck to see the stars.  Later at night, I was wrong.  The clouds came in so fast and covered the whole sky around 9pm.
Let’s see what we can do here.
Let’s sky jump.
Here is the series of sky jump photos we took, and it is fantastic.
These are memorable photos.  For me and the kids.
Kay Kay is flying.
Now, it is both the kids turns.
Let’s take a group photo.
Jay Jay flying.
I am lifting off.  Naturally.
I am doing funny jump pose.
I am flying again un-naturally.
I am running in the thin air.
How about this, sticking my tongue out.  This is fun!
We end up eating ice cream and drinking coffee here at the only coffee restaurant here.
White Rabbit Beach & The Surfers
We then reach another beach.  White Rabbit beach.  白兔海滩。
And welcome Kay Kay in the picture.  He is back facing the sun.  That is why he can open his eyes.
It is a very nice sandy beach.
I made them sky jump, but the effect not so good.  Using my iPhone to do the job.
Spotted a surfer here.  Not come meh???
Oh, there are two more surfers in the water.
They were in the water for long time.  And they try to catch the wave.  And finally, he made it.
Most of the time, he just body surfing.
And here the go out to the sea again.
Finally they retired the surf and go back to the car park.  Smoking and resting.  So, they are the surfer yuppee I suppose.
Love the seas.
Love the bokeh.  I am glad that I brought along my trusted 100-400mm telephoto lens.
Why do you think I can take very close up shots of the surfers.  Of course using maximum zoom, the only regret is I forgot to bring my x2 adapter.  hahaha
Jay and the Sands.
Jay and the sea.
The back shot.
Kay Kay throwing a rock into the sea.
And the rock leaves his hand.
This trip we taken a lot of nice photos. I am satisfy with that.
Kay Kay running on the beach.
It’s my turn.  I asked my wife to take the shot.
Not too bad too.
One more.
Let’s take a photo of my wife too.
White Rabbit Shrine
Opposite the beach is the car park.  Beside the car park is the White Rabbit Shrine.
Why this shrine is there.
As this is the sand dune area.  So there is a sand sculpture here too.
Every where you can see the rabbit stone statue.
This is a nice pose.
A nice picture for the three of them.
There is a place for you to wash hand, pray and drink the holly clear stream water.
Quite nice to drink.
There are instruction to teach you how to drink.
There is this pond here too.  In Chinese it says no gain no minus pond.  Does it mean the water here always at the same water level?
Our first shrine to pay respect.  Bow two times, throw the donations coins, bow again, and pull the bell.
Here is how Kay Kay did it.  And he forgot the bow before shaking the bell.  hahaha
Don’t forget to buy the good luck charm and the study hard charm.  And the accident free charm.
Love the reflection of the pond.
Here is the reason why we are here.
But I did not take very good starry night photo yesterday because of the clouds.
There are so m any places you can see good starry sky in this province.
Really fantastic.  I wish I can stay here few more days.
Let’s hold hand and say buy buy to White Rabbit Shrine.
Sand Dune Art Museum
We continue our journey.  That is why I said, renting a car is so fun and so good.  Because you can see more things.
And we are finally here.  We have not eaten.  But let’s visit the museum first.
This is a fantastic museum.  They have different exhibit every year.
This is a nice pose.
All the sand sculpture is done by these international team.  Wow.  A lot of hard work.
Sand Sculpture of South Asians is 2019 theme.
This Gandhi sand sculpture is done by this Russian Mr. Pavel Mylinkov.  It looks so real.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.  Look at the 3D effect of the building.
This is amazing.
I cannot believe all these were done using sands.
Wow.
It is really amazing.
My kids also cannot believe and wonder how they sculpture it.
Just look at the 3D effect of the town and roads.
More zoom in.
The facial expression is so nicely done.
The whole walls.
Even the painting on the wall are done using layers of sands.
The details of the building is sculptured using sands.
I like this one too.
It looks so real.
The city.
Look at the detail sculpture.
Some Indian figures.
Look at the face.
Lotus three face buddhas.
Just look at the eye lid.
Jay is amazed with all these.
The army.
The building. Wow!
How much time they spent to do this???
Zoom in more.
Smile or sad?
So amazing.
Elephant rider.
The temple.
The buddha.
Wow.
The apprentices.
Taking picture with the sand buddha.
Sleeping Buddha.
The followers.
The monks.
The statue.  I am sure the real thing also look similar to this.
Taj Mahal?
Nice eyes.
Unbelievable face.
Another look at the street.  In 3D mode.
Some maharajah.
Some beast?
Some goddess?
Another goddess?
The stairs
Animal kingdom.
This is how massive the studio.
bathing?
Elephant god?
Me and Gandhi behind.
Me and Jay.
From the second floor view.  There are photos of all the past 20 years sand sculpture theme too.
They also have outdoor sand sculpture too.
But because there are winds and rain.  So, they have to cover it up. And the sculpture are not that nice.
Here we can see the sand dunes.  Behind them is the sand dunes.
Is just dessert.  A very small one.
Let’s take the sand dunes picture.
Some outdoor one is nice.
The tour ended at the Bell of Happiness.
Ya, ring the bell, Kay!
Lunch Time Just opposite the Museum
We have our lunch just opposite the museum.  A fresh seafood don place.
Cheers.
Fabulous food.  Fresh and nice.
Let’s take a photo here.
Its Good!
Camel Ride
Across the road is the sand dune.  Basically it is dessert, a very small one with some dunes.
Kind of strange to find sand dune in Japan, but here you are.
Let’s sky jump here.
Sorry Kay Kay, this year we didn’t plan for a skiing trip.  So, you could not see any snow.  But we have sand.
And he loves to run on the sand.
Although it looks small, from one place to another also takes some time.
That’s the sand dune.  See how small the people are?
Now, when you walk on it, you will find it quite big actually.
So, we need to ride camel first.
And they charge for taking photo of the camel too.  So, please ask if you can take photo.
So, in order to take photo of the camel, we paid for the kids to ride a camel.
It would be cheaper for both to ride on the same camel.
And we can take picture of it.
They have ride horses before.  So, riding a camel is the first time experience for them.
And Kay insists to bring the camel soft-toy he bought just now with him on a camel.
Here they go.  Riding the camel.  For the first time.
Bye bye Jay and Kay, see you in few minutes time.
Wow, now I can see that how important a camel is to the dessert people.
They are there. On a camel.
You see that Sand Dune behind them.  Later, me and the kids will walk on the right side.  And Mommy will “climb” the left side, the actual dune that has inclination angle > 50 degree.  Hahahahah
Wow, they seems happy.
And Kay is playing with his camel soft toy.  On a camel.
That concludes the ride.
Yeah, happy.
Let’s give the camel a pad.
Sand Dunes & Climbing it
Here comes the next challenge.
And the kids can’t wait to climb it.
Oh, some couple taking wedding photo over there.
Let’s take some nice photo here.
It is a dessert but not too hot.  The sea breeze make it very pleasant.
While we are happily taking photos, the kids has already reach the middle of the sand dunes.
Really no joke.  Big.
Kids running up the sand dune hills.
See the kids already climbing.  And Jay has sit down for a short rest.
Video of the Sand Dunes.
Look to the left of the very steep hill, there are actually brave people climbing that.  It must be more than 50 degrees inclination.
Of course, I am a heart patient so I cannot climb that!!! hahaha
So, to enjoy this some one must climb it.
Boon Ching!!!!!
That is how I “con” her to climb the left path.  The very steep path and she accepted the challenge.
No joke.  Very steep.  But climbable.
She did slip a few times.  Hopefully she won’t roll down.
And Kay Kay by this time, already running on top of the sand dune.
I shouted at him, “Sky Jump”.  And he gladly jump.
Let’s jump again!
Mommy, you are almost there.  加油!
Opps, she slips.
Manage to get the foot hold.  Almost there.
The kids celebrate by doing more sky jump.  There you see mommy is almost reaching them.
Got to love the way they jumped.
Mommy quick.
Mommy, I give you a hand.  I think Mommy must be very tired.  hahahahahaha
Tired…
But joyful.
Good job, mommy.
As for me, I slowly climb la.
Luckily I bought new shoe.  And you can see the sands are quite loose.
And see how my heart beat jump up with just a short climb.  hahaha
It is totally a new scene up here.
Mommy and Kay Kay still staying there.
The other side of the sand dune is the sea.  Sea of Japan.
And I made it to the top too.
360 degree of my surrounding.
Jay Jay is sitting there playing the sands.  Let’s walk toward him.
Really love the breeze up here.  And the scenery is nice too.
More sand dunes.
More Sea of Japan.
He is playing with the sands.  And uses his iPhone camera to record all kind of slow mo.
He sit there also nice.
Mommy and Kay Kay also come.  And Jay show them how to play with the sands.
Kay playing with the sands.  Using a stick.
OK, its time to go back.
Kay Kay just love to run on the sand.
While walking, they will sit down on the sand for a while.
Playing with the soft soft sands.
So, my family loves snow, and they also love sand…..
Sun has gone down.  Let’s go back to the onsen hotel.
Before we leave, let’s take a nice picture.
Eat my favourite ice cream.
Really tasty.  Tottori is famous for its big pear.  So, it is pear soft cream.
鱼见台
Dragon in the morning, and now fish.
In the mid-way back to hotel.
They have this funny looking rock.
I cannot read that first Chinese word.  The second word is “rock”.
Let’s take another picture with Sea of Japan.
Oh nice bridge.  blue bridge.
Jay really love the scenery here.
That concludes our 2nd day.  Later, I will write what we eat and what I photograph at night.  The 2nd day is eventful.  We love the sand dunes.  The seafood don is not bad.  The Sea of Japan is nice!
Japan 2019 – Tottori (Day 2) Sand Dunes Date:  Dec 16, 2019 We have a hard time to wake up.  May be because we were too tired the day before.

Tumblr media

I also was a sale shopper and I thought because it is on sale I must have it. That is now in the past. Tip Nr. 11 Travelling and Holiday a big saving or a big loss.
I loved to travel and have vacations in other countries. This is a big item for me but it might not be for you. Through my career, I am travelling now a lot and before I had this job I had at least 2 times a year vacation with my family. Tip Nr. 12 Save Money with Extensive cleaning products.
See the advertising for this great mop that you can press out without getting your hands wet. Well, I bought the mop with 2 new mopping pads. We switch our electronic item now off instead of standby. Our Heating system and Waterheater is time programmed and when we are all at work our Heating and Water heater is in saving mode.

2nd.

I loved to travel and have vacations in other countries. This is a big item for me but it might not be for you. Through my career, I am travelling now a lot and before I had this job I had at least 2 times a year vacation with my family.
