So I’m not gonna be doing linktober this year or any other daily challenge cuz I’m too tired for that. But what I am going to try to do is spend this month making redesigns of Link’s outfits throughout the games and give some notes on them. The goal isn’t to change him physically but rather alter his clothes in a way that I feel is fitting for him and the canon setting, it can be either his main fit or something else and I’ll only do games I know well

For skyward sword link I didn’t want to change too much purely cuz I feel like he needs to be the origin of the silly green sock hat and tunic outfit. However I know that skyloft is meant to be a paradise with the ideal temperature etc but in flight in the clouds it still must be cold so where is that insulation boyo. Speaking of it being a paradise, why would he have chainmail as a graduate knight (or any of them) if there are no obvious enemies on skyloft, plus that is unnecessary weight for his loftwing to carry. There are so many patterned fabrics displayed in skyloft and yet he doesn’t have even a scrap of that intricacy so I felt it necessary to add some patterns to his clothes. The bracers are self explanatory 🕺

I just realized that anyone who thirsts after Ganondorf is already made fun of in totk by Nintendo.

So, BotW had 3 little girls who were in the Voes & you class.

Those 3 grew up to full size by TotK, and others have posted about how they accidentally make fun of Link for being short by their fantasy of the Hero of Hylia being bigger stronger and taller than them & how that would be super dreamy. So they overlook Link being Right There in Every Sense. Like the story is punching Link's ego, and forces you to be humble, because you're powerless to react, but it's also punching up at the trio for how shallow they are in a "if they only knew,who knows if they'd even change their tune" sort of way.

BUT CHECK OUT WHO THAT DESCRIPTION MATCHES!

Who is taller & stronger than the Gerudo Women?! The Demon King!!

Like, the only reason Ganondorf is Such a Threat is because he leads the Gerudo Army. And like ALL of them follow his controlling tyrant ways because of how they THIRST for him. They don't even question him or what he wants, they just line up behind him and blow on their Molduga horns, because they think obedience will be granted security.

If those 3 Gerudo Girls saw Ganondorf & he said "I'm the Real Hero of Hyrule," who do you think they would follow?

The person who matches their fantasy of what heroes look like? The male power fantasy looking fellow? Or the smaller one that doesn't appeal to them to even be noticed in a passing conversation?

What does that make the fan base who are similarly fascinated by Ganondorf, if not eerily similar?

Like, I get that it's a fairy tale, all made up, but that IS the point - we need to critique our own reactions to the media we're consuming & ensuring we are better than even the heroes.

We can't just go off and surround ourselves with "Ganondorf is redeemable because he so chonky", because we will see that in the world around us & believe the same.

I'd understand being drawn to villains when our heroes seem so inhuman with their lack of flaws, but Link is Flawed! (The #of flaws he has could go into its own post, so is a digression from the main point)

Ganondorf is the Villain, and while all the character art of him that I've seen is very talented and beautifully put together, we can appreciate the art without conflating that value with his character's value as a person in this story.

Yes, he is beautiful. But his beauty is awful in every sense, & is only there as another sign of his corruption. He cannot be redeemed, he has chosen this every step of the way. He has no honor, no goodness, he is only power hungry.

Bezos is Ganondorf. Trump with a Work Ethic is Ganondorf. Putin in lifts is Ganondorf.

Would Ganondorf artists make out the above as art worthy?

Zelda writers/the game's story are already calling anyone out in the game for blindly following the biggest hunk of meat man with no matter the consequences attitude.

I'm just asking you to not do so blindly.

This is a scene from one of the best things I’ve ever read, book or fanfic, Blind, But Now by aperplexingpuzzle on ao3 (currently @ghirahimbo here)! I cannot recommend this story enough!

If a legend is a regal and intricately woven tapestry, hung on a distant wall, then BBN is that tapestry up close. It takes the legend and lets you see the threads, lets you feel the texture. Every knot, every spot worn smooth over time. The story sees both the original image and the pieces that make up the image. It looks at how the journey weathered the tapestry, looking at the broken threads, the frayed and discolored spots, and sees an image made all the more beautiful because it doesn’t just tell the story of the legend but the story of the tapestry.

This scene really gave me such a deep, almost physical feeling of the heat and immensity of the region. It stays with me and is one of the first scenes that comes to mind when I think about the story. I was hoping to catch a little of that, plus the overall feeling of their encounter, that edge of potential. Potential danger and potential.. something else.

For the writing game :)

The warm smells of chocolate wafted through the air. Link's mouth started to water slightly, his stomach aching for that chocolatey goodness to hit it in the right spot.

He looked over to Zelda who was sitting next to him, reading her book. She noticed the pleading in his eyes, but merely giggled. "It's not time yet!" she told him. "You have to wait a little longer!"

Link leaned back with a sigh, trying to ignore the temping smell that wafted through their little house on the surface. It felt like forever until Zelda finally sat up from the couch, making her way to the oven. Link was already out of his seat before Zelda called: "Cookies are ready!"

Her hands protected by oven mitts, Zelda carefully lifted up the warm metal tray from out of the oven. She set it on the counter, playfully tapping Link's hands away from the freshly-baked cookies. "They're not done yet! You have to wait for them to cool first."

But Link could not wait. The more that he stared at the cookies in front of him, the chocolatey-chips perfectly melted, glistening at him to eat them, the more that his stomach tempted him.

It had not even been a minute before his stomach one. He took of the chocolate chip cookies in front of him, which not only began burning his hand but also resulted in a nice melted mess in the palm of his hand. He acted quickly to try to get the cookie in his mouth, but only resulted in the melted mass burning his tongue and throat.

Zelda heard the commotion and came running back to the kitchen. "Link!" she pouted, but couldn't help the smile creeping up the corner of her face. "You were supposed to wait!"

Though Link was banned from touching the rest of the cookies until Zelda patched him up to make sure there weren't any burns, never before had cookies tasted so delicious, even if it caused such a mess.

Okay, I am once more going to gush over Skyward Sword because the music, my word, the music is just so good. You have songs like Groose's theme, which is so bombastic and hilarious and perfect for him, and then you're being rocked gently like a hammock in the breeze for Island in the Sky, and then you're cheerily making your way through the Knight's Academy or Faron Woods.

And then the whole world just stops when Link meets Fi for the first time and follows her through the darkness of Skyloft at night. Her theme is already amazing, but it's just absolutely magical in this part of the game.

Or the Gate of Time theme plays, and you just feel the weight of the entire situation pushing down on you, the realization that this is it, that the fate of the world and of your dearest friend is on your shoulders.

Or Fi's final farewell, which rips your heart out as you say goodbye to the one companion who stood by you through it all.

Just... I love this game and its music.
