I saw that @miralith had an idea that the Cooper Clan ancestors were hybrids of different animals and I wanted to draw what I imagined the non-raccoon ancestors to look like!
Clementine Cooper (previously Belle) - Coyote - Tennessee Kid Cooper's mother
Tumblr media
Freya MacCooper (previously Wilson) - Bear - Slaigh MacCooper's mother
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hisoki Cooper (previously Satō) - Tanuki - Rioichi Cooper's mother
Tumblr media
Aalia al Kunar (previously Chahuán) - Fennec Fox/Genie - Salim al Kunar's mother
Tumblr media
Neoma Cooper (previously Alba) - Wolf - Connor Cooper's mother
Tumblr media
Felicity Cooper (previously Cunningham) - Cat - Sly Cooper's mother
Tumblr media
(Idk what I did with Felicity tbh)
I hope you like these designs!

I'm into the idea that the reason why a lot of Cooper ancestors in Thieves in Time got some different colors and patterns was because some of them are hybrids.
Just think in the possibilities! :D
-Tennessee was brown, and pretty fast, savage and agil because her mother was a coyote.
-Slaigh MacCooper was so big and strong because her mother was a bear.
-Slytunkhamen was a cinnamon raccoon and also his son. Thanks to that they could go unnoticed more easily and at first learned to "turn invisible" because their color is similar to the sand.
-Rioichi's was dark brown because his mother was a tanuki, and Henriette was also part of tanuki because of her father.
-Sly's future kids will can do the superjump thanks to Fox's heritage. And also they could got not only gray fur, but also orange fur. Orange raccoons!
-Salim was purple because... ehm.... I don't know, magic?? (Was her mother a Genie? XDD)

also,
I know enough about Scottish Gaelic to know that if it’s spelled “Slaigh” it should be pronounced SLOHCK

I bet Murray and Bentley also learned from the Thievious Raccoonus.
Because there were different body types throughout Cooper history. Like Slaigh MacCooper? Dude was RIPPED! I bet Sly can’t do what he could...but I bet Murray can.
And Sly no doubt had more technological ancestors. So Bentley could study those parts of the book and learn from it.
Just...a lovely little thief family. Y’know?

Would maybe meeting Slaigh MacCooper or Henriette "One Eye" Cooper count as an idea? Like maybe either One Eye flirting a bit with Carmilita or Slaigh being happy to meet another cooper bro, and almost crushing Sly to death in hug?
oh i dont really plan to put slaigh in there - again, the extra coopers have been added to forget bob exists and avoid the open ending. i’m merely fixing TiT, not completely doing it from 0!!!
...but aso for henriette?
Tumblr media
she totally gets a crush on carmelita from day 0. it’s a quick crush and backs off as soon as she understands she’s already in a relationship, but she WILL still be all giddy and cute around her. basically she’s a strong pirate girl and then she sees the cute not-so-local fox and she goes all ♥, while still being supportive for her future nephew
Tumblr media
in fact...i hc for her to not be the one continuing the cooper bloodline, but for her BROTHER to be - her far less known brother who wasn’t interested in being a criminal, but fully supported her and told her tales to his children, thus continuing the line of master thieves. why? because she got herself a cute wife ofc
Tumblr media
she’s an otter noblewoman who was kidnapped by pirates and saved from her and then they both sailed away............

Brick's boyfriend is a Cooper. Legit Coopers. Not thievy Sly Cooper Cooper.
His family are artisan wood whittlers and carvers.
Their best selling work?
CUSTOM CARVED AND FIRE ETCHED MINI BARRELS FOR FLORAL BOUQUETS.
What other convenient Cooper things do we have around here!?!?!?!??
My great grandpa was a hippo from a old Scotland clan that rivaled Slaigh MacCooper. His son left for the US and married my grama rama, Gwenevere Kandi.
WHAT.

Cooper Gene AU
OKAY Y’ALL THIS HAS BEEN A AU THAT I LOOKED AT ONCE AND FORGOT- BUT HERE’S THE GIST.
THE COOPERS WERE NOT ENTIRELY RACCOONS, BUT THE CARRIED A GENE THAT WHEN PASSED DOWN, GAVE ALL OF THEIR OFFSPRING A RACCOON MASK AND RINGTAIL.
EVENTUALLY THE GENE POOL GOT STUPID BUT BASICALLY DIRECT DESCENT GOT THE BOOK. ACCIDENTAL COOPERS ARE EVERYWHERE THANKS TO THE GENE. BUT ONLY THE DIRECT DESCENDANTS GET THE BOOK.
SO HERE’S THE RUN DOWN OF THE ANCESTORS AND THEIR BREEDS. (TIMES AND STUFF FROM THE WIKI- THANK YOU WIKI GODS)
AND ALSO I SAY “GLOVES” FOR SOME COOPERS, WHICH MEANS THE FUR, FEATHER, ETC THAT IS THEIR HANDS. LIKE HOW SOME PEOPLE SAY CATS HAS SOCKS ON WHEN THEIR PAWS ARE WHITE???
10,050 - 10,020 BC | Bob Cooper, the first ancestor and a primal raccoon.
1350 BC - 1,320 BC | Slytunkhamen Cooper. the first Cooper and creator of the Cooper Gene. He used magic to protect his son and accidentally created a form of tagging that was prominent in their mask and tails for years to come.
1320 BC | Slytunkhamen II, the first of the Cooper Gene. Was born with a pitch black mask and tail rings despite being a blond raccoon.
1300 - 1280 BC | Slytunkhamen III was born, and like his father was born again with a abnormal brown mask color despite his blond fur.
920 - 940 | Salim al-Kupar, born some time after the first few Coopers, was the first to be a non-purebreed Cooper. He was a siamese mix with a purple mask instead of a more fitting brown to his tan fur.
1260 - 1270 | Sir Galleath Cooper is born a wolf, his mask and tail black against his brown fur. Weirdly has black gloves too. This quality is spotty in other ancestors.
1400 - 1499 | Slaigh MacCooper, a oxen born among warriors and given a chimera black and white mask over his silvery blue hide. Horns matched his mask and tail was abnormally longer than other oxen.
1560 - 1570 | Rioichi Cooper, a red panda born in Japan with a golden mask and ringtail against his rusty red fur. White portions of his fur were also tinted pink.
1590 | Henriette Cooper was born a scourge among Coopers as she was born a owl. A golden owl with one eye and a rose tinted mask. Her tail feathers oddly curled and his rings were more spirals than any other pattern. Her wings were gradient from cream to rose.
1800 | Thaddeus Winslow Cooper the III, a sophisticated raccoon born under the odd guise of nobilty. His mask and tail rings were white against his dark gray fur. His gloves where also white, adding more to his noble looks.
1850 - 1860 | Tennesee Kid Cooper. a coyote mix with a mask of gold and fur red as the desert dirt.
1900 - 1910 | Otto Van Cooper, an albino crow born with health issues that hindered his flight duration. His mask was blue, and tail similarly to Henriette, grew in a spiral form.
1930 - 1940 | Bruce O’Coop, a bright golden Labrador with a odd orange mask that only really shown in the dead of night. Kind of like safety jackets with the shiny strips. Mask and tail seemed to glow brightly near technology.
1950 - 1960 | Conner Cooper, a cyan blue raccoon with a light gray mask is born. Gloves of same color. His mask seemed to oddly disappear at day time.
1984 | Sly Cooper is born to his raccoon father and maine coon mother. Born with dark gray-blue fur; and mask, tail, and gloves of baby blue.
UNKNOWN TIME COOPERS
Drake Cooper, a axolotl with pink skin and a sea foam green mask and tail.
Sally Cooper, a hedgehog with a spotty mask of lilac. Roll move, very obvious.
Dev Cooperinda, a tabby cat that was oddly blue but a mask of earth brown.
Chris Cooper, another raccoon. Born with golden fur and a dark purple.
Karin Coopergiwa, a ball python with purple scales and a stark cream mask and ringtail.
Rob McCooper, a dark grey bat with a light cream mask. His wings are also striped as he has no tail.
B.F. Cooper, a rabbit ancestor with black and white fur and a navy blue mask. He chocked up his messy and bright markings to painting and color spray,
Suzanne Cooper, a white duck with a lilac mask. The mask is only visible when wet.
Andrew Cooper, another wolf. A pure white wolf with a crimson red mask. People swore the mask was really the blood of his foes.
Kelle McCooper, a mint green echidna with a electric yellow mask.
Matthew de la Coopeur, a toad with odd orange-brown skin and black mask. Like Huckleberry, her never lost his tail, but his ringtail was on his physical tail and not the end of it.
Augustine Cooper, a rusty brown hawk with a tan mask.
Huckleberry Cooper, a bullfrog with bumpy green skin and a mask of berry red, his tadpole tale never left and grew his rings on the tip of his tail.
Colonel Reid Cooper, another raccoon born with gray fur and a dusty orange mask and ringtail.
REMOVED/NON CANON COOPERS
Caroline Cooper, a ferret with dark brown marking and a natural black mask!
Okey O’Cooper, a common pigeon with an iridescent purple-green mask.
Dell de La Coopeur, a orange cream frizzle chicken with a brown-red mask.
Leo Cooper, a golden bengal cat with a white-green mask. The white of his tail is the same color.

Frickin' Thaddeus Winslow Cooper III of the Victorian Era, master of Disguise, charm, and Deception. The Gentleman Thief  of the Cooper Clan I hope in the Future if they ever make another Sly Cooper game and it has to do with more Time Travel, I hope that you can play as this guy :3 There are a few other Cooper ancestors like Slytunkhamen, Slaigh MacCooper, Otto Van Cooper, and Henriette One Eyed Cooper that would also be great to play as well :3

And for absolutely no reason a ref for one of Penelope’s ancestor’s that I’ve made. (Also she’s my fav so far)
She’s about 23 y/o. She’s Celtic so the time she was alive is about 60 AD (1st century), I’d love for her to interact with Slaigh MacCooper but he’s from the 15th century which spans from 1401 AD to 1500 AD, but I can guess they’d get along well pfpfpf.
yeah so basically SHE.

Slaigh and Riochi hit it off as well as The Scotsman and Samurai Jack did when they first met.
S: Ooooooh, ye might even make me shiver if you weren’t dressed in a nightgown. You look like my nanny!
R: [silent glare]
S: You call that thing dangling off your hip a cane? Looks like a butter knife. You’ll not hurt anyone, wielding a piece of tinfoil around. You’d be better off using your slippers for a weapon. This is a cane! [He hefts his massive weapon, swiping it through the air] And it’s bigger than yours.
R: [glare slightly intensifies]
S: What do you think of that, Mr.Pajama-Wearing, Basket-Face, Slipper-Wielding, Clype-Dreep-Bachle, Gether-Uping-Blate-Maw, Bleathering, Gomeril, Jessie, Oaf-looking, Scooner, Nyaff, Plookie, Shan, Milk-Drinking Soy-Faced Shilpit, Mim-Moothed, Sniveling, Worm-Eyed, Hotten-Blaugh Vile-Stoochie, Cully-Breek-Tattie?
R: …Ah. I see the problem.
S: Eh?
R: Though you hail from an earlier time, your nation was a foundational in the formation of pirate culture, including their greeting practices - in which I am insufficiently versed. Henriette?
H: [suddenly next to him] Aye?
R: May I request you take the lead?
H: Aye aye! I’ll smooth things out with this oversized, pea-brained, quarrelsome rapscallion in no time!
R: Splendid.

Am I the only one who's upset that Slaigh MacCooper wasn't included in the ancestor lineup?
Tumblr media
Slytunkhamen II, Galleth, Salim, Henriette, Rioichi, Tennessee Kid, Thaddeus III, and Otto are all there, but the only one missing is Slaigh. The only other one missing is Sly's dad, but if we see him at all it'll probably be a big reveal at the end. I'm nervous that he won't be included. I mean, can you imagine a 15th century Scotland hub. Not to mention the fact that Slaigh could freaking break locks with one whack of his cane. If we don't get to play as that bad-ass, I'm going to be pretty disappointing.

I really like your opinions so i want to know: if Sly 5 was a continuation of the whole time travel and meeting ancestors, and we're continuing the pattern of five villains per game, then what kind of villains would you pair up with the ancestors per level? Like for example, Rouishi and El Jeffe, Bob and The Grizz, ect.
lifehack: get snap to answer your excellent prompt by outright telling him you like his opinions
Excellent prompt! Well, first thing’s first: what ancestors would there be? I can’t come up with counterparts if there aren’t, um, parts. So let’s scrape together a quick line-up. All things considered, Slytunkhamen is a shoe-in. Let’s throw in our girl Henriette, and Thaddeus too. And, uh… sorta running out here… round out to five with Otto von Cooper and good ol’ Slaigh.
That established - what makes a good villain? Long story short, an interesting contrast to the hero. So,
Slytunkhamen - (Consolidating the three different holders of this name into one person for simplicity’s sake)SOMEONE WHO PLAYS CHILDREN’S CARD GAMESOkay, sorry, had to get that out of my system. As I recall, Slytunkhamen - plural - stole from corrupt pharaohs, making him quite the little anarchist. I think it follows that his opponent would be authoritarian, somehow representing if not embodying the local state apparatus. If most villains are imported in, a la Le Paradox’s gang, then maybe this one, in contrast, is literally just the local governor. Heck, depending on the plot, that might even fit nicely. Having Sly and Slytunkhamen deal with a local fracas before the time-travel plot can get properly underway.
Henriette - Well. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that, as the only female Cooper with a monument in the Vault, Henriette is pretty much representing her entire gender. She is The Girl. So that will need to be considered in light of how she’s likely (definitely) going to be the only female ancestor. The obvious route is to have a General Tsao type, an obnoxious misogynist who we help Henriette pound into the surf. That said - as much as I like to destroy obnoxious misogynists - it might also be interesting to have her rival also be a woman. Not in a Designated Girl Fight way, more in a “We’re both women in a man’s world but I still goddamn despise her” way. I dunno.I wanna talk in terms of Henriette’s actual personality, but unfortunately we don’t have much to go on aside from the fact she was (presumably) pretty smart and tough as nails. Whoever’s going toe to toe with the lesbian queen of the high seas better be worthy of her respect. Savvy?...Well, she can smell gold, right? Maybe her opponent should wear a ton of jewelry. Maybe even have gold in their prosthetics. H: “Avast, Sly! Not a sound.”S: “What? What’s wrong?”H: [sniff, sniff] “...She’s here.”
Slaigh - Slaigh’s stated to the be strongest of the Coopers, and has the absurd body shape to back up that claim. That leaves us with two obvious choices. The first is the classic Brains vs Brawn setup. The villain is a spindly little mastermind who tries to outthink Slaigh. This villain, btw, is 100% from England. That’s just unavoidable. But that character concept sounds very reminiscent of Arpeggio, and “loud bruiser versus tiny nerd in bygone Britain” sounds very reminiscent of Galleth vs Penelope. So in the interest of variety, here’s a second idea: Possibly my favourite Irish legend myth is our origin story for the Giant’s Causeway. Basically, Fionn mac Cumhaill, our strongest champion (who was like eight foot something) got challenged to a fistfight to a giant from Scotland who was even stronger. So instead of Brains vs Brawn, it’s Brawn vs More Brawn. Slaigh’s the strongest Cooper, but how much does that really mean? Sly and the Gang has to help him against a physically tougher opponent - and the resulting blow to his pride that might bring.
Otto - Otto, by contrast, is one of the smartest Coopers. So take everything I just said about Slaigh and reverse the polarity. Either someone equally skilled in engineering and mechanics, or a great big brute he needs tech to compete with. I’d kinda lean towards brute. Too often villain is the tinkerer and the hero smashes their toys. It’d be nice to see the other way around.
Thaddeus - a poor person
