to me dream having no clothes on under that cloak is like when you go out to get the mail in your robe, thinking you're just going to be out there for a minute, but then you get locked out of your house. dream thought he was going to be gone for just a minute to get the corinthian and didn't even bother getting dressed.

something that annoys me is when people see the first episode of The Sandman as Dream being petty. Like, one of the main themes of the show is hope and the first episode is about Dream losing his.
The whole sequence with Jessamy was about hope and the fact it was ripped away from him (as in, she was shot by the only person in the building that had any sort of remorse about his treatment). Obviously, he’s going to give up ever escaping.
He lost hope. He lost his raven. He didn’t think his siblings would come from him. When Roderick Burgess died, Dream thought Alex would let him go and he didn’t. Hope is so important to Dream, and he lost his.

PLEASE someone come yell about this with me.
Okay can we talk a little about how Overture just completely changes everything about Sleep of the Just? Like?
Of course, it makes it clear why Dream was able to be captured so easily, and why he was naked, etc.
But then.
It makes me wonder if he even could have given Rodrick what he wanted? Did he even have the power left to give him anything? He was drained, weakened, he had nothing left in him to give. Even if he had WANTED to, would have have been able to?
Maybe the reason he was silent, the reason he refused to say anything was because he was too proud to admit that he was powerless.
Not just powerless to give Burgess what he wanted--that would have been simple enough, really. Whether or not Burgess would have listened is another story, but really, what would it have cost Dream's pride to just say "That's not my job I can't do those things"?
But it was more than that. He couldn't give Burgess ANYTHING. He was completely helpless. And he didn't want to have to admit that. That he is Endless, but that Burgess had caught him at a really bad time, and that he literally could do nothing.
AND THEN! Everyone always asks why Dream didn't ask for help from his siblings or anything, or why they didn't come to help....
Apparently THEY are just massive dicks!! He'd asked them for help before and they did NOTHING (well mostly nothing.) So obviously he wasn't going to bother to ask again. He'd humbled himself once, and gotten nothing for it but screwed over. Why would he bother doing it again.
IN FACT every. single. time. Dream has had to ask for help it ends up costing HIM greatly. No WONDER he doesn't like asking for help! He gets hurt every time!
He's not too proud. He's SCARED of what it will cost him, and for good reason!
